horrible lecturer, better off reading the book, plus hard to understand
Rupa is a great professor even though she has a strong accent. I found her lectures to be very helpful.
She knows her stuff, it's just that you also to have to read the book to fully understand her lecture because she doesn't write everything down in class like other professors. I liked her class; I learned a lot or maybe i'm just saying this becuz of my A

Rupa C De is the worst professor Ive ever had at PU
lectures are not useful at all...and the tests do not do an adequate job of determining if you know the info!!! it's very hit-or-miss with the exams...you either happened to study that one sentence on that one particular page, or you didn't.
She has no idea how to teach. Even if you talk to her one on one, she is useless!
The class was interesting. I didn't think the exams were difficult. In order to do well on the exams you need to prepare for them by studying the book intensivly. Her exams were straight out of the book, but watch out for tricky all of the above questions
completely horrible lecturer, can not explain complex ideas effectively.
studied for hours on end, made about 200 notecards, and got a 62 on first exam - take what you want
Hard to understand...exams r not related to the lectures...
Rupa is such a awkward prof. i have ever seen. she is the one who knows what she is teaching, what she is taking exams on! she is not co-ordinating person at all with anybody. she is discouraging students in many negative ways. she doesn't know to teach.
Very difficult to understand. She is pretty good to look at though. Mmmmm :). She mumbles a lot and often her tests are very random. Picky details are extremely important on the tests, overall picture is not.
she is an awful teacher.she doesn't even teach or clarify anything b/c she reads strictly from the book so there is really no point in going to class.her exams suck she purposely tries to confuse you instead of testing what you know & she's been on probation since the 1st semester she's taught here
Rupa seems to not care about her students. She is determined for her students to know the information as well as she does in 16 weeks. The lab is just more lecture that she doesn't have time to cover. This class has become WAY too hard. The majority taking the class aren't even anatomy majors!
can't teach...and her exams are very confusing..she purposely tries to make students fail...and when u ask her a question...she says, " oh you should already know that.."..
Ehhh... well, her lecture style is really scatterbrained, and it's often hard to know what she really wants us to get out of the class because she goes off on random tangents all the time. I think she knows her stuff but really doesn't know how to present it in a coherent way.
I think the amount and depth of the presented material was reasonable. However, she should really consider curving the class to fit the performance of the students each semester.
why isn't she gone yet?!?! i gave her a horrible teacher review, and so did everyone else i know >:-(
She goes way in depth, which is ok, but her tests are so hard and her grading scale is harder, so often all that hard work of studying goes unrewarded
Epitome of a bad teacher.
Rupa's tests are ridiculous, she doesn't care how much you know, only whether or not you can figure out what she is asking for. I don't know how many hours I've wasted this year studying for her class only to get Ds and Fs on her exams. She's a horrible prof.
Terrible teacher.
She is terrible. Get out now.
cant speak english, cant teach students, wont offer help to students
Take 203, 204 if possible, Rupa should be fired.
Don't waste your time and energy .. it won't get you anywhere
Hard Tests, Hard Quizzes, Can't understand THE PROFESSOR not just the TA's, the worst teacher or TA ive ever had at Purdue...its sad, even her sense of humor sucks

You can't understand her, and no use arguing with her, she won't budge.
Horrible teacher, been in the states for how many years and still can't talk right.
I like her! If you read the book and actually study it is not hard to get a B in this class. An A requires effort, but it is possible. She is super friendly if you get to know her - i.e. go to her office!
The lectures tend to be a bit disorganized even though she provides a template for notes. I usually have to go back and relisten to the lectures online. However, the help sessions are very useful and Rupa is always friendly and willing to help clarify.
stubborn to a fault, unsympathetic, its like shes running a dictatorship of a small country, not a class.
This teacher speaks in an ambiguous and unorganized manner in class, but does not allow questions. She uses an overhead, but she only writes random words on it, so if you miss what she says or misunderstand, it does not help you put the words in context. The lab associated with the course is not homogeneous, some labs are much better than others.
This class is hard!!!
tricky tests.
horrible
Not fun.
I love her lectures - 'hmm'. But her exams are horrible.
I guess I am one of the few that actually liked Rupa. I am not a genious, my GPA is barely above a 3.0... but I did not think it was extremely difficult to get a B in the class (A is rather hard). I learned a lot, Rupa cares about her students with all the extra help she offers. I think people are just bitter cause the class isn't a breeze.
Exams are literally used to trick you. Every question has at least answers for A,B, and C, usually along with D (which is all of the above) and E (which is A/B or A/C) Very strong accent so it is very hard to understand her. I have not enjoyed her class what-so-ever.
awful
This class is meant to separate the level of students. It's hard if you just study by her lectures. If you read the book and go over lecture notes it becomes a lot easier. You can get a B, but an A is tough.
Tough class, but the teacher gets too much of a bad rap. She's a fine teacher, and is plenty helpful/friendly if you actually go to help session and give her a chance. The class is hard, but it isn't as difficult as Dr. Chang's genetics course.
The best way to pass this class is to get ahold of her old tests. There is an 'underground' of test trafficking that not everyone is aware of. However, when I brought it to Rupa's attention, she refused to use new questions, she's that lazy. She puts very little effort aside from showing up to tests and giving review sessions, like everyone else.
Rupa is one of the best professors at Purdue. She genuinely wants her students to learn and succeed.
Rupa is HORRIBLE. She is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. The class is unorganized, with tricky tests. And there is NO curve. She just doesn't give A's.
Rupa is amazing. Just a little advice to people reading this...get to know her. Go to her office and talk to her. She is really not like she seems in class. She wants people to succeed. I still go back to talk to her and I am two years out of her class. Also, it is possible to get an A...
Hardest class ever, extremely difficult to understand her
Rupa rocks. She really wants her students to be successful and understand but you have to try. You have to study and ask questions in help session and office hours. And yes she does give out plenty of As.
Rupa's class is extremely difficult. Print out her notes from Blackboard and make notes from the book (headings are the same for both). She goes very through the material in lecture and she is very difficult to understand. Don't bother going to her help sessions except before an exam when a lab TA will give you all of the info for lab material.
She is a horrible teacher. She is the lowest quality of a professor that I've ever had here at Purdue. I don't understand how she is allowed to teach within the wonderful Biol department that Purdue has.
Very Hard Class, but she wants you to succeed. Her voice turns me on ;)
I had professor de for both 301 and 302. it took me all of 301 to figure out how to study for her class but i learned SO much. if you put in the effort, you will be rewarded. I didn't use the book once. but GO TO CLASS and DO WELL ON QUIZZES
You could take her exams with all your notes and access to the internet and still only get a B or C
Had Rupa for both 301 and 302-This is one of those classes where if you put the time into it, you will do well. I studied A LOT for these classes, notes + book. It's not just about staring at your notes for hours. You have to test yourself. Her tests require you to really know the material. That means studying wayyyy before the exmas.
Rupa is a GREAT professor. The only reason people say she isn't is cause her class is CHALLENGING. If you are in the college of science and can't handle this class, switch your major. Be ready to study, listen, and apply concepts to real life. You can't slack in this class. Would you want YOUR doctor to have slacked in Anatomy? Me either!
Sometimes difficult to understand in lecture. Tests are extremely hard and ambiguous with most questions containing answers such as all of the above or (A and B). Must know material thoroughly. Good luck!
She is definitely a difficult professor but I feel as though I actually learned something. By the end of the course you really get the hang of how she does her exams and you feel confident moving onto 302. Definitely recommend going to the study sessions and re-listening to the lectures on Boilercast.
Prof. De's classes are the worst I've taken at Purdue. I can appreciate the depth of material she has to cover, but there should at least be some main points - instead, you are expected to know absolutely everything for the exams, and even if you do, the questions are ambiguous. Plus, she comes off as bitter and unapproachable; unhelpful overall.
This class is hard but she is a great prof. She explains everything very well and you don't need to know any material outside of what she says in lecture. She has an accent but it is easy to get used to, unlike other profs. She also understands that she can be hard to understand and is happy to repeat herself. Lectures are also recorded and online.
This is a complicated class. On one hand, Rupa is very personable and helpful outside of class, and she genuinely wants students to learn. On the other, she has a unique, possibly slightly outdated perspective on A&P. Consequently, success on the exams is a result not only of understanding the material, but also knowing how Rupa would interpret it.
The class is hard, yes. But the lab portion can bring you from a B to an A in the class. The Third exam is extremely difficult so prepare for it weeks before. The optional end of semester exam is also very easy. Just study the semester exams, there are a lot of repeat questions. Rupa is awesome also, don't be nervous to talk to her.
It is a difficult class, but it is doable. You need to put the work in. It is extremely helpful to anyone wanting to go to medical school or PA program or other medical professions. It's college, you're going to have difficult classes! Quit whining and do the work.
Got a C in BIOL 301 and an A in 302 Was too stubborn to change my studying habits first semester but I began the 2nd semester determined to get an A and got it,How?I just studied more I read the labs before going to them and reviewed lectures before each quiz and began studying 3 days before each exam,8 hrs/week is the difference between C and an A
tough!!!!
It really doesn't seem like she's genuinely interested in her students and that she wants to help. She constantly makes degrading statements about her students but does not put in the effort to help. Also, her lectures are completely disorganized, she writes down the wrong or confusing things.
Does not explain lecture notes in detail and constantly says "umm". Loves to give multiple answer options on exams and quizzes.
Everything lines up so well. The assigned reading lines up with the lectures which line up with her notes. The lab compliments it all. Yes, you have to read the book to do well. On the bright side, lectures are recorded and you don't have to go unless there's a quiz. Tests cover almost everything that was covered, but nothing more. You learn a lot.
Rupa is an awesome Professor! Anyone who says it's too hard or she doesn't care about them are the same people who don't put in the effort to succeed. She DOES make you work for your grade but it's easy if you put the work in. Lazy people should definitely not take her classes...
I thought Rupa was an incredible professor. After he course, I felt prepared for medical school. You just need to be willing to read before class and study plenty. Come on, we are in college, stop being lazy.
LOVED this class, did well, and am TAing for it next year. It is pretty difficult though. There is a method to the madness and if you work hard, you will learn more in that class than you will in any other class at Purdue. It's changed the way I study and think. Not only did I learn about anatomy, but I learned how to be a better student.
Sassy, blames students for various things. Lectures are just copied from the book. Nobody goes to lecture unless there is a quiz. Her tests have a lot of "A and B" or "All of the Above" multiple choice questions. One of the choices is always some obscure detail. Would recommend renting book. Office hours useless, help sessions useless, on your own.
She will almost NEVER give you an all-encompassing answer if you have a question (unless you go to office hours). She will only give the minimum amount of information for any single question in review sessions, and you have to figure out the rest. The material isn't too hard by itself, but the way she presents it on exams is.
As intimidating as she may seem, she really does care about the success of her students. Go to an office hour and just talk to her. She's actually really funny and surprisingly chill. She also will help you with any problems you may be having. You have to study and "quiz yourself" like she says to do. It's the only way you'll do well.
You will probably need to re-watch the lectures just because she is very vague when talking. You don't need a textbook but the the textbook will do a better job of explaining material than she will. You really do have to work your ass off in this class to do well though, no where near an easy A
Rupa is the worst professor I ever had. She made me feel bad about my grades and wasn't helpful at all with asking questions. Her exams were all "A and B" or "All of the above" questions. Over 40% of my class for D's and F's on every exam and over 40% of my class failed the course in general . Very disappointed Purdue has a professor this poor.
CONFUSING!!!! -_-
Never went to lecture (unless there was a quiz), but I watched the class recordings, took detailed notes, and quizzed myself several times before each quiz/exam. Took about 6 hr/week for lecture portion. Dr. De seems intimidating, but really cares about her students and is excited when you do well. Exams can be tough, but they're not impossible.
Exams are all very difficult and don't cover any useful information. Mainly just extremely abstract specifics that you only catch if you watched the lecture thrice. She is difficult to understand and her lectures are disorganized and choppy. She doesn't teach out of the textbook but the only way to learn anything from the class is to read it.
She is tough and upfront, but underneath it all she wants you to succeed. In order to succeed you MUST do the following: read textbook before class; take good notes; rewatch ALL lectures and add to your notes (EVERYTHING is important); go to office hours; when studying for exams, QUIZ yourself and draw out diagrams; seek to UNDERSTAND, not memorize
This is easily the most difficult class I've taken at Purdue. Her lectures bounce all over the place, she doesn't follow her note packet, and her exams are written in a ridiculously difficult way. She also blames failures on "you just don't care enough" which is pretty derogatory towards her students when they study for hours and still fail.
I already know many of you who took her course may disagree with what I have thoughts on her. Rupa is actually really caring and fun to talk with as long as you go to her office hours and reach out to her. She can be a little intimidating during her lectures, and she writes the exams solely based on whatever she covered in her lecture notes.
She says that you are only required to know what she talks about in class. This is not true, you must read the book carefully as there are things she puts on the exam that are only mentioned in the text. Her exam questions are also very difficult and often try to trick you.
This class made me feel disrespected as a student and incompetent, when in reality the amount of work I would need to put into this course to be successful is disproportionate to the credits and material learned. Being successful in this course while also trying to balance many other equally important courses is nearly impossible.
Professoe sucks . Bad lectures, gives material out of text book, says only if you attend her office hours you may learn, even if you listen to all her lectures and read textbooks it is hard to excel in her class. Test heavy is 40%, no curve , prides herself on tough tester & grader, lots of homework and busy work worth nothing
Figured out pretty quickly after the first exam that Dr De expects her students to memorize every single thing she says- no matter how insignificant it may seem. Only showed up to take lecture quizzes but wrote down every word from Boilercast. However quite a bit of the final grade comes from labs and there are opportunities for extra credit
This is by far the hardest class Ive taken at Purdue by a long shot. Rupa does a wonderful job of making you question everything your mother has ever told you about your intelligence. Her lectures have enough information to fill a whole journal but her tests will touch on even the smallest blurb or idea. If it seems unimportant, study it anyways
Rupa is a great professor considering the amount of material she teaches in one semester. She does give tough exams, however it's all a trickery of words. Practise a lot of old papers.
Huge pro-tip: Rewatch EVERY lecture on Boilercast and write down everything she says. Her tests are extremely hard and over very small details. I wouldn't recommend reading the book or buying it. Just memorize everything she says. Test material is not out of the textbook. Do not take this class if you don't have to.
First class Ive ever failed at Purdue. Worst professor. She jumps around in lecture and its very hard to know where stuff goes
Her exams are impossible. Never take her. EVER
