Talks about everything but math. Not very understandable when he does. I would only take him as last priority. Often corrected by students.
if you are Indian, he is your instructor. but if not then think again. he does have favoritism in his class and especially to Indians. but he is easy to get an A. that easy he is for all. but he does make it a big deal if you are late and not Indian.
Sekhon is wonderful! The success of his students is so important to him. He is kind, funny, helpful, and really tries to relate to his students. It dropped 4 math teachers because they were all terrible. But Sekhon I kept because his class was awesome!
Once you get over his accent he is a nice guy who will go over a problem 5 times if you ask him to. His tests arent easy but if you do the homework you can get a good grade. He does have favorites so be sure to participate until he likes you.
Very easy. Just do the hwk and go to class and you will do ok. he will help you if you need it and i thought his midterms were "OK."
This guy gives hard exam. He maybe a good teacher for math 10. But not for calculus for sure. He has a much higher demand for calculus student. Very hard exam. Can't explain well...

Sekhon is not the easiest teacher in Deanza, but you can learn a lot from him. It's recommended that you have good algebra foundation. Though some of his tests are hard, he overall isn't a bad teacher, because he is doing what a teacher's supposed to do.
Rupi Sekhon cannot teach Calculus. He is great for Statistics but when it comes to Math 1A he is not the best teacher. Take Camp, Mosh or Moen instead of Sekhon. He's a great guy no doubt but you need to put in a lot hours to learn the material yourself..
This is a good teacher if you want to work hard and accoplish something. He grades very tough and has a rough attendance policy but you get what you put in with Sekhon. If your serious and want to take something with you into 1A take Sekhon.
Sekhon is a very ineffectual teacher who does not explain math in a clear manner. It is difficult to get an A in his class, even if you are one of the top students. Losing 5 points (on a test, for being late, etc) will cost you 1-2% on your grade.

Worst math teacher I have ever had. HE doesn't know how to use the calculator has favorites and ad long as they understand he moves on. DOnes not explain well and goes off on many tangents. I withdrew the class he gives no partial credit for work shown

this guy is a ****. he grades unfair. on test he ask for stuff not stated on the test sheets. changes date of test alot. tends to rush through the chapters near the end of term. avoid this guy. went i ask him about the dean, he said go home you boy!

Tons of quizzes every week. Exams and final questions are too many and hard. Not good to explain how to use calculator and his lecture. Rarely to get an A from him even if your math is good. The worse is that he deducted my attendance points from total :(

sekhon is by far the best math teacher i've ever had. i've finished lots of math at de anza, and he is the first prof. who keeps my attention the whole class. He's hilarious and explains the stuff well. if you're lazy or irresponsible, you won't last long
people, do not take this guy. he is an ass...with a terrible, he can make fun of you in class, always makes mistakes and requires high accuracy in tests, alsways complain not to have enough time for the course, but saves class time for his nonsense jokes
Grades only on final answers...goes back on his words...favors some students over and isn't really fair on the grading. NEVER EVER TAKE HIM unless u can do everysingle problem with 100% accuracy!!!

He is a wonderful teacher.. he will help you as much as he can. His exams are straight forward, however, your grades depends on how much you study. He is a cool and a GOOD teacher, you will learn a lot from him.
why all the sad faces? the reason he gives tons of quizzes is because he cares. i wants to know that your taking notes and doing your hw. soo don't be lazy and you'll do fine. first math class where i actually learned stuff and understood problems.

Awesome teacher! He's great @ teaching and hilarious. Warning for the lazy: this teacher is HARD. Frequent quizzes, takes pts off for missing classes w/o excuse, hard tests. But hes the best teacher ive had to date (im a UCSC sr. now). Highly recommended!

Sekhon really knows what he is doing. People give him bad ratings cuz he is hard. If you do all the work on time and if you are prepared for the lecture you will get an A. If you pay attention you will notice why he is good.
NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL! He shows favoritism to certain students (especially girls) and didn't even use the textbook at all. His lectures aren't directly related to the tests. Don't take him you WON'T learn anything.
People are exaggerating the difficulty of Sekhon's class. If you get a bad grade you have only yourself to blame for being lazy. I certainly learned my lesson.
He knows a lot but needs more work on getting the info to you. Has nice stories like the forth dimension but that's off topic, eh? My classmates probably weren't the brightest but I could understand from just reading the math book.

Great person, really helpful if you take the time to ask for it and put forth some effort in your studies. all he requires is some effort on your part to learn the material and you will pass.
Brags about his son all day long. Bottom line: you will not learn a thing, become frustated, drop out the 2nd week, and you will be writing here afterwards. So save yourself the time and don't bother to register for his #@$%$#@.
HE DOESNT TEACH! he puts a problem on the board and then if one person in the class can do it then he assumes that the whole class can. honestly. its a TEACH YOURSELF CLASS. he favores people. if you are doing bad in the class he wont even help. he will say. "drop it then" or "its not my problem"
Not an easy class.but its not super hard either.He says you dont have to buy the book(he gives you a handout the first day of class with the material)but unless you can take perfect notes youll need it.His lectures are verry entertaining. He'll keep you awake with his funny stories. he's a good guy

Excellent Instructor. His stories will keep you laughin through the class. Material very hard. Lectures are clear. Must do your hw to pass this class. 3 Exams and 12 Quizes and Hw counts as credit. Must study for this class isn't easy. Great teacher would take him again.

He really really cares for his students. He enjoys teaching. His tests can get quite challenging. And no I do not think he favors anyone. He respects all of his students. His stories are quite interesting (it is good to have short breaks in between the lecture).
He's a fun guy to learn from. He does give the impression of playing favorites at times. He took a shining to me, and would always joke around with me in lecture. But I was slacking off all the time since I knew most of the material from CS. Toward the end I had to struggle to get over a C.
Great teacher. He makes his class fun so you won't be bored and half asleep like some other math classes. He knows his subject extremely well, will answer any questions you have, and explains the material real well. However, he might make fun of people, but it's all in him "being funny"

He sure does favor people; he favors those who put in effort and work hard. I slack off a lot, plus im taking bio and chem at the same time-not that easy so I'm not doing well but hes really helpful, clear, and easy. One downside is that he acts like calculus is the ONLY class you're taking.
I HATED math before this class.I had even failed his class once before.But I wanted to take it again.The only thing you have to do to get an A is be in class everyday.He prepares you so well for the tests. Plus he is really funny and the class is never boring.The best math teacher I've ever had.

He is a very unfair teacher! Took him last quarter and dropped it. Definetly chooses favorites and is very anal about attendance and theres too many damn quizzes. Personal experience: made comments in front of the whole class about how i failed a quiz. DON'T TAKE HIM!
sekhon's HILARIOUS! his class is very entertaining. he makes sure that you understand the material before moving on and encourages questions.he does seem to pick on certain students..but it doesn't bother me much. you have a quiz almost every week. exams are not multiple choice,so they can be tricky
Hard teacher
Completely biased teacher, who adores his favorite students that sit in the front row and acts like everyone else in class is either not there or just plain stupid. His exams are ridiculous, and he lets his favorites have as much time as they want to work on exams, never again will I take him.

He's definitely an encouraging teacher and definitely wants you to learn. I had a hard time, and he makes sure that you get the stuff. He's also SOOO FUNNY. Funny + Good teaching = Take him. I highly recommend.

though he is funny at times, he makes the material almost harder than it is. Not to mention on exams, he gives no partial credit even if you show logical steps. So answer or no points Avoid..but this is a hard course
He actually tells his favorite students about mistakes they make DURING the exam and let them correct those mistakes. Definitely does not teach. I have to self-study most of the time. Always says we don't have enough time but he talks about himself / let us out 30 mins before class ends. Worst Math teacher ever taken. NOT RECOMMENDED
Never take his class... never!!!! I have been keeping my grade A on any math classes except this one. He doesn't know how to teach at all and talks about his personal story which doesn't help us for the material at all. He is the worest teacher I have ever taken at De Anza.
HE IS SO RUDE. HE MAKES FUN OF THE STUDENTS HE DOESN'T LIKE. AND HE PUT TOO MANY QUESTIONS ON THE ONE HOUR EXAM THAT U CAN NEVER FINISH THAT UP. NO PARTIAL CREDIT FOR THE WORK OUT PROBLEM. Very hard teacher on Exams! if u dont plan to make a study grp and really trying to crack what hes going to give on the test i should say u should give up on taking him. His test are really tricky, no makes up unless everyone fails, no extra credits (usually u gotta hang something on the doors for 1-2 extra credits
I never met such an unfair instructor. He only protects his favored students. A lot of **** not related to the course. He loves to say he is the best Maths teacher in this area. I wonder why he is teaching in De Anza College instead of Standford University. Thick accent. Take it if you are good at self study. AVOID !
I dont see how people can say sekhon is unfair. He favors students who try hard and put forth the effort. Some of his favorite students are C students because they try their best to pass the class. I have yet to meet another instructor who cares more for his students than Sekhon.
He is very unfair. He gives his favorite students hints and more time in quizzes. He uses 15 mins to teach 2 sections and 45 mins talk about his BMW! Wasteing my time. He makes fun on students. Horrible accent. DON'T TAKE HIM!

I don't know what people are talking about when people say that he's rude and "only likes indian students and females" (I'm neither of those things) He has no tolerance for grade grubbing or whining, but if you're doing the work, and asking him questions, he's one of the most helpful teachers on earth. One of the few I've ever learned from. Mind you, he does go off on tangents/rants, but he's a kind, light hearted old man.
One of the best professors I have ever had. For people complaining that he discriminates it is because they don't work hard. If you go to class, do the homework, and put in a little work, you will do well. He is just looking for people you are interested in learning.
This guy is funny, some of the stuff he says is ridiculously hilarious. His class is pretty easy and you hardly have any homework and when you do its like 3 problems a day. HIGHLY recommend him for those wanting to take STATISTICS
excellent teacher. in ur future, i.e after many years of learning, some people may feel that they have forgotten some concepts, but if u take his class , u will never feel like u have forgotten the concepts. he wants people who do hard work and are sincere. never had such a teacher and never will have one.

This teacher is ridiculous. The loud people in class are math geniuses and opted to have quizes everyday to replace graded homework so that they wouldn't have to do homework. Class time came out to 35 minutes for quiz EVERYDAY and a 15 minute lecture. How can you teach calculus in 15 minutes? Take him for laughs. He is hilarious and fairly liberal.

Very bad. I do not know waht he is teaching. He does not have any organization and wastes time only. You better do self-study or read the book yourself rather than listen to his stupid teaching. He always praises the ones who he likes (You are the genius//You are the best in the world) and totally neglects the others.
I'm an A student, and I used to be really good at math before I took this class. His exams and homeworks are extremely hard, and too much. He lectures for 15 minutes in a 2hr period class, and goofs around the rest of the period. Just don't take his class, if you don't want to hurt your GPA, and want to learn some math.
i took sekhon for stats and he was very unhelpful. he would say that he would do one thing for the test, but then on the day of the test, he would do something completely different. he didn't explain concepts very well and he totally chooses favorite students. he would spend more time telling stories than explaing things. do not take sekhon!
totally understood everything when he went over the material, but come test time and he bombards you with so many problems that you have no time and have to rush so you can finish. will favor students he already knows so he will change their wrong answers and mark it correct. doesnt give you partial credit and wastes class time talking about GOLF!
Sekhon was a pretty good teacher. I managed to do pretty well in his class at first. I went the first half of the quarter with an A, but slacked off and bombed this one test and had to drop like a week before the final. He was cool though and reported it as a withdrawal instead of a drop so i only got a W instead of an F
you will have a hard time in calculus because his class will not prepare you due to his low standards. would you rather have a hard time in trig or calculus? tells too many stories and jokes and doesn't teach enough subject matter. makes lots of mistakes. not organized. forgets what he said before. voice very loud. irritating.

He simplifies what for some is difficult information to grasp. Me and a couple others agree that he is the best math teacher we have ever had. Some of the kids taking the class are just dumb so I wouldn't worry about the negatives. His golf stories are welcome because it keeps things light and not overwhelming.
Rupi is one of the hardest math profs at DeAnza. He's also not a very good prof. People who think he's good haven't had a taste of math 1B yet, so they shouldn't judge him on a silly stats course like math 10- Take 1B if u want to see how hard it gets.

Teaches spontaneously and is unclear about a lot. You have to pay attention in class because most everything is out of book and he only goes over it once or twice. He's a funny guy who really cares about his students but his class could be conducted better.
I didn't like his teaching at all. He doesn't teach much, only rush through the material. Final exam was 50 questions multiple choice which there was not enough time to solve all the problems. I was good in math before taking him, but he made me disappointed.

Sekhon substituted for the first day of my Math 11 Class this quarter, and he explained in ONE class period things I had been struggling with for a year. He has a lot of passion for teaching Math, and it's refreshing and exciting. I have never had a better Math teacher, and I am very sad that I can't finish the quarter with him. He's Great.
He is good but he dosnt like MORONS in his class. Take him if you want to learn. His demands are moderate. I say yes "Bravisimo" to Mr. S for keeping idiots out from wasting class time.
He has a tendency to go ranting off on tangents, and thus waste a lot of time in a 50-minute class. This is the worst when you're asking hw problems, as he never gets around to all of it, and sometimes doesn't even address a problem. Tests also tend to have problems that take much more time to solve than given. He plays favorites too.

DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. REASON: 1. NO EXTRA CREDIT. 2. NO LOWEST QUIZ/TEST DROPPED 3. HE LEAVES FASTER THAN ANY OTHER WHEN CLASS OVER. 4. IF U WANT TO TAKE RISK THAT U CAN TAKE HIS CALSS.
I stink at math, & I tried very hard & did all the homework but at the end I had to drop the class cuz he isn't a very good teacher. He isn't clear, he makes up things as he goes along, he relies on students to get him info and doesn't verify it screwing up the entire problem in the process. My only praise is his relaxed nature, that's about it.
I used to be A student in math class, but this quarter I was too busy for the class. So, I don't fully prepare the math. I am doing so poor in Mr Sekhon's class. Then,I work so hard just want pass the class. Finally, he give me C and I pass the class. I am so happy get C at this time. Thanks Mr. Sekhon!!!
Great professors. Good preparation for students heading to top transfer schools like Berkeley, UCSD, Cal Tech etc. Trust me, you will need to know your material to do well here @ the university !
The presentation of the material was unorganized at times, and he does make quite a few mistakes. A good student will catch it though and bring it to his attention. Aside from that, his grading was not too harsh and he is just a nice, funny guy. He pretty much tells you what will be on tests, but don't expect him to bump you from an 88% to an A.
Frequent quizzes. No problem if you study and do the homework. Lecture is good though sometimes a bit disorganized. But the lectures do cover all of the material on the quizzes and exams.

His lectures r interestin...very knowledgeable...his xams r not hard at all, questions r mainly from the hw problems he assigns...gives frequent quizzes, which r basically to help students...take him and it is not hard to get an A in his class...
Professor Sekhon is a nice guy and all but he moves fast and if you're lost in the beginning, good luck catching up. He keeps it light with funny stories and scenarios plus he wrote the book. I recommend him despite my failure to pass his class.

Entertaining teacher. Has his favorites from day one. Many "senior moments". On the first test, half the class had to copy answers from one test to another due to his mistakes. The other half used the time to review their work. I lost 10 points directly from his lack of due diligence. I was angry for days!

He has a weird sence of humor and love to crack joke during class. He'll let you out 5 mins early most of time, and if you show up in his office to show participant he'll love it. Quiz on every single class meeting, so be prepare. Don't miss class or you're crew. If u'r the type of working hard, take him

Don't miss class or be late, minu 5 points. He is not as bad as people say. He will help you as much as he can. It is easy to get lost in this class though; so focus, focus, focus and do the problems at the end of each section it really helps since the quizzes and mid terms are based on these problems
Mr.Sekhon is the best. I took him for both Finite Math and Statistics. Passed both. He loves what he's doing so it made me enjoy his class. However, you have to GO TO CLASS!!! If you even miss one day you can get lost and then it will be hard to catch up.
Sekhon is a good and thorough teacher. But if you are a slow learner this isn't the class for you. If you don't understand it do the HW and ask him in class. Quizzes and Test were easy to me. He does reviews a day before the test.

Mr. Sekhon is very nice and pretty funny, but if you are trying to build a foundation in Math he is not the teacher for you. His lectures are really fast paced, he doesn't give you important formulas and if you are a slow learner you'll be spending a lot of time trying to figure things out on your own. He complained about having to teach algebra?!?
DUDE don't take his class..he doesn't really tell you important formuals or theorems and expects you to know them...and on tests he will say "use __ theorem to solve this prob" and you will be like WTH. also..he only solves probs in class and he says his tests are based on homework but no WAY JOSE-_- he makes it 3x harder...DON:T TAKE HIS CLASS
I went to every class and office hour and I still failed! If you are not good at math don't take this class. He is a really nice guy but does not teach and for me there was no textbook to refer to. This is a class where you must be able to teach yourself.
This class is pretty easy. Just show up, listen to lecture and do homework problems. The HW problems are very similar to the test. You get extra points for showing up everyday, 3 midterms and 1 final. Quiz everyday but they're easy. I dont know why this teacher got such bad ratings, probably because of those lazy people who dont care about school.
He explains very well and make class fun. Once you take his class, your life will be changed in good ways!!!
3 exams(100pts each). None are dropped. No curve. Quiz every meet(100pts total). -5 if absent. 500pts total(at least when I took it winter 09). Awesome teacher but you MUST invest time outside of class to do well/pass.
I took this professor and loved his class. If you do your HW and understand it, you'll do fine. ALl test are from the HW. ppl that didn't like him didn't want to work or put effort into the class. Its not high school! I learned a lot in his class @ sjsu and his class really helped me.

Some test questions were hard bc inside a calculus problem he is also testing your other math skills. Makes me think I could have gotten an A instead of a B with another teacher, BUT the class is worth it. He cares about his students, urges ppl to ask questions, gives plenty of examples and he's entertaining enough to not fall asleep
Professor Sekhon is very helpful teacher. He Explains you every thing clearly. I took Statistics with him and I got B. Take him.
He is a great teacher I have ever met. He delivers a clear lecture to students and he is humourous,too. His midterms are easy, but you need to listen his lecture and he gives out preview before midterm. Sometimes he goes through them. Super COOL!
He is so funny as well as easy grading. If you don't know about math, take him if you can.

Sekhon is quite a little character and I personally loved him! He has a great sense of humor and likes to pick on people for fun. This class was really hard, but I put in a lot of effort and studied like mad to get an A. You half to study and go to the tutoring center if you're not a natural math wiz.
He is a great, motivational teacher! He is one of the best math teachers I have ever taken and it quite funny as well. I enjoyed coming to the course, and he is very motivational and nice to us. The class was challenging at times, but it was not hard. He is always eager to help at the tutorial center. Take him, you'll enjoy it!
i don't recommend this fellow.plays favorites,tells jokes that take up almost an hour of class and leaves the last 10 minutes for teaching a new concept which is tested on the quiz (given almost every class),irresponsible teacher, does not use the textbook at all, makes you buy a handout for $4 which doesn't give you practice. not a good expreience
His tests are seriously unfair. There's always 10% of it that is bound to be wrong, so that's a B. He teaches the easy stuff, and spends 20 minutes on a more difficult problem, only to leave that problem unfinished (cuz he really doesn't know how to do it) and assigns it for hw or the quiz tomorrow. Claims he loves teaching...He should be retired.
I feel like this class is extremely hard. The class is 2 hours long and information is crammed into one class. After learning tons of info for 1 class, the class after there is a quiz. Be prepared for a quiz everyclass. Do not miss class or you will be screwed! Oh and be prepared, he chooses favorites!
Ive been at De Anza for almost two years now and have not had a problem with any of my teachers thus far. This teacher is the worst teacher I have ever had. He honestly doesn't care if you fail the class or not. He is very discouraging, as he choses favorites and often tells them how they are his favorites infront of everyone. Very dissapointing.
Mr sekhon is the beat teacher. I took stats in last winter. He is helpful. Take him.

He is really hard! He has quizes every class and the quizes are so hard! He also has three midterm and one final, also hard! His lecture doesn't make so much sense because he teaches too fast with some boring jokes. If you want to get an A, do not take him for 1B!!!
i thought sekhon was such a good teacher. yes, sometimes his clas can be borring, but all teachers are borring at times. he is so funny and will help you every time you ask him. the three midterms are really just tests and that are not hard at all. and then there is one final. take his class you will learn a lot.

Hands down the worst teacher I've ever taken. This guy does one problem, then expects the class to do all the hard ones(even numbered so you can't even check then) for HW. We have a quiz the next day on the HW at the beginning of class, so if you didn't get it yesterday it's a rap for your grade.HE DOES HAVE FAVORITES TOO. Take someone else!!!!
HORRIBLE. enough said really. i was not his favorite, so he would always call me out. it got so bad that i had to drop the class as he did not grade my paper fair AT ALL. his class was a joke! had us pay more to do the hw on webassign. horrible.
Seems like a nice enough guy, likes to crack off color jokes at strange moments. People might get offended, but i found it a good change from the usual monotonous math crud. Easy teacher. People only complain cuz they can't handle standard math that you were supposed to know in like 7th or 8t grade. Funny and random anecdotes make the class bearable. Gets pissed if you don't come to class. Test/quiz problems like the one he talks about. Web Assign homework - do it, its worth hella. cool guy and explains stuff well.
I did well on calculus 1A & 1B but the only way I passed his class was by learning the content entirely on my own. He does not try to explain formulas or drill you on any concepts like every other calculus teacher, he just skims through the lesson in 20 minutes like it's a review. His (lack of) teaching added several hours of study time every week.
I took his courses and learned mathematics based on his clear and useful explanation. Now, I am a data mining consultant in SPSS at IBM. I found his teaching theory very useful and valuable. I was extremely lucky to take his courses.
Its true he does have favorites especially for the smart students or for the people who sit in the front. There is a quiz every class in the beginning. His lectures are average, but you'll have to read the book to fully understand. I would say its an average college class.
He goes through the lecture too fast, does not answer questions and calls people stupid for asking questions. Has favorites and is unwilling to help if you ask. Do not take this teacher unless you want a bad time and a bad grade.
He's definitely not a easy teacher and you're really going to have to put up an effort if you want to do well. But he cares so much for his students especially if you show him that you try.
Good Professor and sometimes he do some entertainment also. Easy class if you juts show up everyday otherwise you will loose points for Attendence.
He determines the "smart" students in the class and uses their work to grade everyone else's. He doesn't check your work, only the answer. He plays many favorites and for people who don't do well, he uses them as examples for failure. Would not recommend him for a class to anyone.
Prepare to teach yourself all the material. He just goes up in class and tells stories/jokes. He skips over fundamental material constantly. His tests are super easy if you've put in your own time learning. He will teach you nothing. Feels like I paid money to sit and have someone tell me jokes for 2 hours.
I don't think math 1D is his best subject to teach. He doesn't teach clearly. The way he teaches is that he always discusses problems in class, and he expects us to understand from what he just discussed. Doesn't teach concept clearly at all. You'll be fine if you're a good self-learner. Otherwise, don't take him.

A really easy professor. He teaches concepts before formulas, making math more useful and relevant. All homework is on WebAssign and there is one assignment per chapter. Quizzes every day, but as long as you do well on the exams, you should pass the class easily.
What a great guy!If you're looking for something like the math classes you took in high school, this isn't it. You have to put in the work on your own and show up for class to go over homework. Don't be shy asking for help! He will always go the extra mile to help you out, as long as he sees you're making an effort.
Sekhon is a brilliant teacher, that being said you still need to ask lots of questions and even spend some time in the math center if you want to get an A. (Unless Statistics is your thing of course) He has a huge heart and truly cares about your success. Put the effort in and you can do as well as you want to.
Sekhon is mixed for me. Not bad, but not good either. Yes he is a really nice guy, but inconsistent with his lectures. Some days, he'll explain the topic pretty well, but others, it would just be doing a couple examples, but not explain them. He's not really bad, but I just had to teach myself some material that he should've taught us, is all.
Really intelligent professor. Taught every single aspect of Math 1A very well. His office hours helped me alot. Midterm and exam question come from homework and lectures. If you find math hard, take him and you will start loving it!
This teacher is awesome. It's going to be my first year at De Anza starting this fall and I just hope that all my math teacher will be just like Sekhon. I took his class in the summer and I don't regret it at all. GREAT teacher who truly cares about his students and their successes. He'll do ANYTHING he can to help you get an A. He's super fun!!

Kind man, sometimes erratic. Shares interesting anecdotes that somehow link up to the math topic at hand. Teaches too fast and barely writes problems for students to see. Expects only the top students to answer them--once they are answered he moves on, no explanation. Very frustrating!

I dont know why, but his midterm gets harder each time, dont know about the final yet. He explains things very fast, and does not care if some of the class dont understand yet. Have to learn 40-60 % of the materials by myself. I would not recommend him, if you cant learn things by yourself.
the class outline is basically you have online hw which can be extended if you let him know you need an extension and 3 exams with a quiz everyday of what the previous class consisted of and then a final he gives you a sample test for every exam and quiz and helps you ANYTIME you need it during class just ask doesnt really respond to emails though
idk why everyone thinks he's hard..its all about u and u alone, he shows us how to do it and u need to go out of ur way and understand perfectly, his quizzes are a good motivator to study everyday, to be honest he's the best math teacher i have ever had

While funny at first, you get tired of his jokes eventually and just want to get to the learning. He goes super fast and his quizzes and tests are hard - not good if ur slow like me. Half of the time he's clear, half of the time he annoyingly beats around the bush to emphasize the point. Lots of self-study required, more than normal.
Only math teacher I know who doesn't like giving u enough space to calculate. "Quizzes" are 30-40 min and test you on what you learned the day before, so you need to have done your hmwk right away. 3 exams that cram ~20 problems on one sheet of paper: not fun on exam 2 or 3. Only class where I've had to bring my own scratch paper.

He is a retired man who still loves to teach. He doesn't have to be there, but he wants to be there. Math isn't a easy thing to teach, but out of all my math teachers he was the most inspiring and funny. Take him with a grain of salt. He will teach you a lot more than just math

He teaches really fast. Gives super long quizzes. Midterms are consisted of over 20 probs, and 'cos he gives little space for your answers, he only cares abt the final answers. Confusing about what will be quizzes and tests so be prepared. Anw, he's nice to check your quiz and midterm answers, and allows you to stay after class to finish your test.
This subject is suppose to be neutral, meaning not easy and not hard. But he makes it difficult for no reason. He expects you to go beyond from what he taught. Seems pointless to have webassign when quizzes and test are base off the book that are not cover in webassign. Avoid him, because he is going to screw you over.

Math is my best subject so I received an A, but I can see why people are complaining. Although he is such a nice and fun instructor, you may have a hard time if you haven't already learned the material that he covers. His teaching method would only favor observant learners.

This man truly loves being a math teacher. He is an entertaining,sweet old man with fun stories and math knowledge all day. He wrote the text book we were using, did not assign much HW if any and was very accommodating as far as deadlines, test dates and group work. I've taken him twice and Id take him again if he were teaching the course i needed.
Stay away from Sekhon. The material that we go over and quizzes we have are based on homework due online two weeks ahead of time. He doesn't teach the material very well, but will help you out if you ask. At least he's nice and has a few funny stories to tell.

Mr. Sekhon is one of the best teachers I have taken at De Anza. People say he is not a good teacher, but if you just ask a question he would love to help you out; he will not be able to do everything for you, but he will try to help you get that A. Im sad he will be retiring after spring 2014.
Sekhon is the best math teacher I have had period. I hate math and I was always excited to go to his class. Super easy to get a good grade if you pay attention and do homework. Sit in the front row, dont miss class impossible to fail. Ask questions and he makes sure you get it. Funny stories, good lessons, GREAT teacher. Sad he is retiring. =(

I took all my calculus classes with him and by far, he is the best math professor I had.He is very helpful, loves the subject, and funny. He was very clear with what will be on the exams and made the class prepare them. It is sad that he retired but still he was the best teacher I ever had.
Hardest class, Sekhon could be funny, but his T.A's are the ones that have the word if you pass or not. He will not help. He expect you to know all the math when you go to class. MATHLAB online is need for homework, but doesn't count for grade.
Unless you have a strong background in mathematics, I highly advise you stay away from this professor. Lectures are designed to highlight his own methods which are very confusing for a foundation algebra class. If you dont understand the material, he will openly mock & tease you in front of the entire class. Terrible quality and generally unclear
HE IS HILARIOUS. HIS CLASS WAS EASY FOR ME GIVEN THAT I CAME FROM A STRONG BACKGROUND WITH A SCORE 5 ON THE AP EXAM. HOWEVER SOME OF MY FRIENDS STRUGGLED IN THE CLASS AND DROPPED OUT. IF YOU ARE PASSIONATE AND WILLING TO SPEND TIME STUDYING FOR THE MATERIAL. YOU WILL LOVE HIM. HIS LECTURES WERE OKAY NOT BORING. HW ONLINE SUCKS.
So much work! Quiz on every lecture 2 times a week. It's stressful because you have to study hard before class starts. He has online homework which is usually due 2 weeks after you learn it. The good thing is that he gives practice exams for every midterm exam which are quite similar. His practice final is actually very similar to his real final
Took stats with him. He was really clear on what he wanted and worked through many problems. Usually exactly like the ones he put on tests. Scantrons needed for tests! very kind. willing to give you credit for effort. grades on a curve. no textbook he gives it to us for like 5$
He's really funny and sweet. An amazing person as well as amazing math teacher. He's not only willing to answer questions, but begs you to ask to help the more shy kids out. He sometimes tells random stories that drag the class a bit longer, but they're generally interesting and provide some knowledge. Really enjoyed his class overall :)
He is a very funny & easy professor. This is the first MATH class I take at De Anza. His teaching way is clear and easy to understand. If you intend to take MATH10, choose his class. Review your lessons and do homework will help you easily get grade A.

Gives daily quizzes but will literally give you the answers if you ask for them. Don't expect any help on his tests though. He's a funny guy and often likes to tell jokes during class. Such a funny and kind man. The best math teacher I had at De Anza. We used a text book he wrote and distributed it directly to us so it was cheaper than getting it from bookstore. He drags the 2 hr 15 min class till the very end, no breaks given! Daily quizzes, but tells you b4 whats on it. Ask him any question on ur quiz and he will tell you the answer. No book, just $6 for handouts/hmwrk sheets. He goes over a problem, but will move on unless u stop and ask how he got it... expects u to already know, like ur a math god.
disorganized, his syllabus was copied and pasted from before, filled with mistakes. if a student answers incorrectly, he says close enough and moves on. doesnt teach anything in class and teases students for not understanding the questions when he gets the wrong answer himself. vaguely sexist. doesnt assign hw, but makes u pay $6 for the hw packet
Retired teacher. Only has two more years left I believe and only teaches winter quarter. Can be confusing to some if you don't aren't very good at math. If you're good at math then he's an easy teacher. Has the funniest laugh I have every heard. Makes you pay $6 at beginning of quarter for a packet of homework. Quizzes every day
If you have a good and strong foundation in mathematics, he's a good professor for you. He expects you to understand the chapter after he goes over it once. He's a funny man but he calls you out if you get the answer wrong. He is not very good with responding to emails. Quizzes every class meeting.

Hilarious guy that I can't help but remember even years after having taken his class. His jokes, stories and sense of humor made me enjoy math. Definitely not easy if you don't put in the work and study. Kind of sad future generations won't be getting these types of uncensored funny professors anymore lol. Kids these days are way too soft.
