He's very nice and he means well but at times he can get a little frazzled. He has trouble explaining himself sometimes but he's always willing to try and clarify. His tests are failry easy, not too long or ridiculous. I'm no math wiz but I do well in his class. He is kinda nerdy and his handwritings not the best he works for me!
nice guy, easy tests sometimes puts extra credit answers in bold! really fair with attendance, assigns hw but doesnt go over or collect i wouldnt suggest buying the book unless u plan on being absent a crazy amount of times n need it to study!
He was a very twichy guy!! he never talked to the class only to the black board, thought he was funny (trust me he wasn't) ,easy tests as long as you know how todo everything on your own! there was a quiz every week, easy on autendience & HW overall if your smart on your own take this class if u need help all the time and like to ask questions don'
Simple class. He gives us hw all the time, but does not collect them, so he really doesn't care if we do it or not. Thinks he funny, can be once in a blue moon. Simple tests and quizes, given often. Easy bonus questions, its hard to fail a test. And he has big feet for a small guy, but thats cool
He is a huge nerd. Dont count on him to explain something to you that you dont understand. He will try, but he's hard to understand. He also has a speach problem. If you can learn things on your own then take hime, if not DO NOT TAKE HIM!
he is such a nice guy and people just need to give him a chance. he laughs at himself all the time which can be funny i guess. tests and quizes are easy and he wants you to pass. i think if you are decent at math then take him.
Awesome teacher!! He doesnt check the homework and his tests are sooo easy! he gives a 5 point bonus at the end of every test that is really easy to answer!! def. recommend him!! I got an A in his class and im not that great in math.
Great teacher. I had him for 61 and got an A. I took 62 with a different professor and got a D because i had t basically teach myself the entire course. I took 62 with him this semester and it is going really well. He makes the information very tangible and is willing to spend an hour on i if you really need the help. I would strongly recommend him
I had him for precalculus and he is so stupid. We always prove him wrong which is kind of funny. But I just sleep in class and he doesnt care. He never looks at me so I can sleep every class. If you want to get some more sleep definitely take him.
the first day of class i thought this guy was a total joke and everyone laughed at him and i was thinking of dropping the class. I stayed in the class and found out he was a pretty good teacher. He doesnt check homework, the tests are easy if you study, 5 point bonus's, and he's a really nice guy.
Hard to understand anything.
Currently taking precalc with him, easy teacher as far as not collecting homework and giving EAASY 5 pt. bonuses on tests, but his teaching is incomprehensible. He thinks he's explaining it fully when really he doesn't make sense.
He seemed like a nice guy,but as a professor he was horrible. It does seem like he cares if he is being clear or not, but he just isn't. I'm not really even sure he knew what he was teaching. Avoid taking him but if you decide to DON'T let it be your first class. It was mine and it was very difficult to get up and go to class.
Very nice teacher, he really will explain things over to you many times until you understand it. It's ok to laugh in his class until he tells you to settle down. Very sweet, easy easy grader gives easy bonuses and doesnt check homework but assigns it for your benefit. A lot of notes but it all helps! Not bad!

You will do well in his class if you know math. If you are taking finite please do yourself a favor and buy the ti-84 calculator. He will not show you how to use it but there are tutiorials online on how to use them. He is not a great teacher, very unclear, and usure of himself. Despite this you will PASS if you need the grade!
I am taking him again next semester. his tests are easy he will go through something until it makes sense, he makes mistakes but will always take a correction. he knows he is unclear in his explanations and has horrible handwriting but he's never insulted if you point it out. So nice! I'm taking him again next semester. Take him if you can!
Took him for pre-calc at 8 in the morning. Not the best professor by any means, he's very unclear in his teaching. I failed most of the quizzes, and did terrible on most of the tests. However, if you did poorly the whole semester, he will base your overall grade on the final. The final turned out to be Easy,so i ended up with an A instead of a fail
I think he has a big fear of speaking in front of people because he gets really nervous. He studier, he has a slight lisp, and he talks fast. He is very nice, but he is a big mess, walking around campus will piles of paper flying everywhere. He gets caught up in his own learning and you don't end up getting anything out of his teachings.
He so cute and has a cute little accent! Puts just as much work into his classes as he expects of you! Tests are easy, you can use a notecard! Very very sweet! yeah, he's a sweetheart! Take notes and you'll be fine! He won't let you fail, really!! Good guy, definitely recommended! =)
he gives too much homework every day, quizzes every week testtests every other week tough class
He is absolutely horrible. You can't understand him at all. I took pre calc last year in high school and got 90s. I'm in his class now and doing horrible. there's something wrong with this picutre. DON'T TAKE HIM!!! He's extremely weird and awkward and has a bad lisp/stutter.
he was the worst professor i ever had at suffolk. if you want to learn math or are not good at math i wouldnt recommend taking a class of his because your better off teaching yourself out of the text book. you cant understand a thing he says. hes good at math but not at teaching it. the class is so boring i couldnt keep my eyes open.
Terrible speech impediment...hard to understand, awkward examples. Do not take his or Professor Yen's class if you want to understand the material.
What a mess. Papers everywhere, unorganized, complete mess. Couldnt read one thing he wrote on the board, sometimes couldn't even understand what he was saying. Very nice, kind of shy when you speak to him one-on-one. Couldn't figure out how to complete problems, constantly using calculator and asking students for right answer.
horrible teacher! do NOT take him if you actually want to understand the material and do well in class. impossible to understand. nice person but horible teacher
worst teacher i have ever taken at suffolk. he refers to himself as a "math genius" he sucks, you can not understand anything he says or writes on the board. He is messy, and has low social and teaching skills.
at first i didnt like him at all, he has a speech impediment and he is extremely messy.his class is very confusing but honestly he is the nicest guy and he will try to help you pass. take him if you have a hard time with math because he will a 100% try his best to pass you. very fair grader, gave partial credit on tests and overall very nice guy.
I gave this guy the benefit of the doubt all semester. He does have a speech problem and terrible handwriting but I thought he was a nice guy. Even if you have no idea what he is talking about he always made his point by the end of class and I left understanding the material. BUT at the end of the semester, all he wanted was to leave for vacation!
WORST PROFESSOR! He has no social skills, if you go to him for help he makes you feel like your bothering him. He is a mess, disorganized with papers everywhere and is ALWAYS covered in chalk dust. he does have a speech impediment and I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt, thinking he may be a brilliant mess but NO he is just awful!
I got an A in his class, but that came from me being good at math and reading the textbook, this guy is a nice guy, horrible teacher tho. he's so lost in class... students constantly correcting him.. a real nervous mess
If u don't pass his class u were not paying attention. All students who hate him are either morons or were just like the many students who did nothing all semester but play with their phones and then blamed him for failing. If u pay attention u get used to his writing , he speaks just fine , great professor very smart
He is not that horrible of a professor. If you are generally good at math, I would say you'll be fine taking his course. He does get nervous and make a lot of mistakes, but if you are able to follow through the text, and have time to attend the MLC you will be fine. Otherwise, I'd advice to take someone else.
I will just list his pro and cons for you guys. PROS: Quizzes come right from the Homework. Tests are generally easy if you look at notes and study. HE GIVES INFORMATIVE NOTES. CONS: Kind of messy handwriting He can be a bit confusing at times and messes up alot
Some people just wern't meant to be teachers. This guy is a nervous wreck in the class, sounds mentally challenged and he has the worst handwriting in Suffolk. Now thats saying something! Strongely reccommend any other teacher, but if you do end up with him you should read the textbook during his classes and go to the tutor for extra help.
He is a nice guy, a bit of a goof ball. He thinks people know less then we acually do so the test are pretty easly and he doesnt check hw so dont do all the question. Just pay attention in class and youll do fine.
He is very sweet, helpful, and entertaining. However I would not suggest him if you're coming from a developmental math course. He is very unclear when trying to explain things and there is a ton of material to learn in a short period of time. Do the homework because they turn out to be your quizzes!
Im really bad with math but I ended up with an A for the class which I never get. Anyone who gave a negative review either has really bad math problems or just wasn't trying. Just study from the book, he gave quizzes weekly which were straight from the homework so its really hard not to get 100's. He allows a sheet of paper with notes for tests.
So far he is very nice and pretty easy. Things are starting to get more confusing but he always asks if we understand or need him to re-explain something. The quiz questions come from the homework which have the answers in the back of the book. He does have a speech problem, but he is a nice guy and wants you to succeed.
Nice guy, but very unclear with his teaching. I was lost for the first few weeks. He does everything out of the textbook, and he gives great extra credit on tests, plus a very good partial credit system. I personally wouldnt take him again, but he can be very helpful
I feel bad b/c he is nice & really wants to help others learn but I personally couldn't take him & had to switch to a diff professor. His method of problem solving was much more complicated than it needed to be. He makes lots of mistakes & our class was always correcting him. He seems nervous & fumbles his words a lot. Nice guy, but bad teaching.
He is a really nice guy and tries his best to entertain the class but his ways of explaining are very unclear, he doesn't explain in full detail, nor show you what to do exactly. When he does show you, he stops in the middle of the problem and moves on to a different problem with the previous one unfinished. I ended up withdrawing because of this.
He is not the best math professor, but he is not the worst. His class consists of 3 tests, a final, and tons of quizzes. He also gives out a lot of homework, which he never grades. The quizzes are based on the homework. He sometimes rushes through the class which makes it harder to understand the lesson. Don't take him if you are not good at math.
He is nice but he is just not really there mentally all the time. For me all the mistakes he made during the class was really annoying! And his voice is a little grating too. I did learn though without doing the amazing amounts of homework he assigned.
He is absolutely horrible! By all means don't take him if you need the class to graduate like me, he goes way to fast, we are always correcting him, he teaches a lot in one class and he teaches before you take a quiz so everything you studied gets wiped out because your trying to learn the new topic. Your better off with a forign professor......
he's a bit hard to understand when he's speaking. He gives a lot of h.w but it's for your benefit so he doesn't collect it or grade it. the tests are easy if you study and do your h.w. His grading system is good. I didn't have too much trouble because most of the stuff covered is high school pre calculus which I did senior year.
Professor Coe is such a nice man. All of these negative comments have some truth to them but he really is there to help and teach.. it's YOUR job to take it seriously and work and most students just sit there and text during his class. His tests are beyond easy and always gives bonus points on tests. Give the guy a chance :-)
I suck at math and this was an Easy A. you do the hw and make the cheat sheets which are allowed for each exam you will pass this class with an A. All exam questions were derived from hw. people weren't able to get past being judgmental and didn't realize how the grading scheme made an A easily attainable until the final after reading the syllabus.
Goofy and friendly teacher. Poor handwriting, but teaches directly out of the textbook, so you can follow along regardless. Highly recommended that you bring textbook to every class. Quite lenient attendance policy. Likely gives the easiest tests out of all the MAT141 teachers at this school.
Nice professor, likes to joke around a lot, makes class interesting. he doesn't have the neatest hand writing but its legible. his class is very straight forward, gives notes then shows the work. tests are very easy
He's not a bad professor, but sometimes its really hard to understand what he says, and his writing is really bad. The class itself wasn't too bad, but you definitely need the textbook and do the homework- that's mostly what the tests are based on
He has good intentions but it's difficult to understand him and his handwriting is terrible. If you're good in math his class can be an easy A when you do the homework and studying. But for someone like me who is terrible in math it was a nightmare.
He means well and is very sweet, but he is extremely awkward. He is also very hard to understand and has awful handwriting. If you pay attention and do your homework you will pass easily. Homework is important because he takes questions from the hw and puts them on quizzes. textbook is very recommended.
He sucks as a person and as a teacher. He doesn't care about you or how you are doing in the class. He is lazy and loses your work. He will give you no class participation or homework to help your grade. He only grades from a weekly quiz (on topics you learned at least a week and a half before, meaning you have will not remember) and 3 lecture exam
Very hard to keep up with as he writes too fast on the board. His handwriting is very sloppy and often cannot answer any questions you ask. He rushes through the lessons and does not take the time to make sure you understand the material. I took Calculus in high school, so I know some of the material, but when he teaches, I can not keep up.
BUY THE TEXTBOOK he uses the problems straight out of them, he does goes very fast. However his exams and quizzes are fairly easy, and if you do bad on the tests, you can replace it with a cumulative final. Even though the HWs he doesnt grade (put A LOT of hw btw) if you fall behind you have time to catchup.
One of the best professors I've had. Very easy to follow as long as you copy all of his notes. Gives numerous examples and answers any questions asked. Gives bonuses on every test and quiz. The material is a little hard but as long as you study the notes, the tests are easy. Also allows you to use a formula sheet for tests and quizzes.
Coe means well but it's incredibly difficult to understand his handwriting/speech. Overall I dreaded coming to class in fear of not understanding yet another topic in the textbook. He's lenient on makeup quizzes and assigned lots of HW. If you get wanna pass just do the HW, quizzes are fairly easy, and the cumulative can replace your bad quiz grade
- Nice guy, but super stale lectures - 3 tests, many quizzes, and final, the lowest counts for half on final grade, 2 of the tests and a lot of the quizzes ended up being take home!!
Professor Coe means well but is the worst professor I have ever had. He makes mistakes on a consistent basis that the students have to correct. His lectures are just unfocused versions of textbook sections. He is impossible to contact outside of class. Rushes through lectures and has awful handwriting. His ability to teach is less than acceptable.
He is a nice guy and all but he just cant teach. he is very hard to understand and its very tough to read his handwriting. He is teaching calc 2 this year and we are a month in and yet to start calc 2 we are still reviewing calc 1 info. The students correct him about 10 times a day and he gets mad when they are right and he is wrong.
Like others said, he is hard to understand with his speech impediment and he's aware of it just as he's aware of his awful handwriting. He'll joke about both constantly as a way to hide his anxiety. He's a nice guy but I felt he gave a lot of homework each class. I would regularly fall behind as I also work full-time and taking other classes.
He's a nice guy but really hard to follow along with. He's funny but he makes a lot of mistakes wich makes it really confusing. If he's the only professor that fits your schedule then take him but if you have the opportunity to take someone else then take someone else.
extremely nice professor. gave a lot of homework but never checked it, only went over it as extra review. was very helpful with understanding the topic and gave many examples.
he gives many examples for each thing he teaches and then one of those examples are on the tests with different numbers. he was very nice and never went too fast with the material.
He's a nice guy. His lectures usually drag on but that's part of the package with most math classes. He can be a little hard to follow at times but he's always willing to do more examples or explain things differently if needed. He likes when his students participate, would definitely take him again.
This guy definitely has his quirks, but hes a good and caring teacher. Also very nice grader! If you do the home works he assigns, you are very likely to get over 100 on your exams. Liner Algebra isn't the easiest to teach, and the textbook itself isn't that great, but he makes it work. Also the final can replace your overall grade if its better!
So much material. Super helpful outside of class, he answers all there questions specifically. However if you miss one class, yourscrewed. Gets harder towards the middle of the semester. Get ready to stay for the whole class, he never ends early. Must use textbook for homework. Recommend to do the homework, some questions are on the quiz and tests.
An amazingly quirky and fun professor! He does a great job teaching which the textbook struggles to do. He always tries to keep the class light-hearted and fun. He'll be shy and stutter quite a bit in the beginning of the semester but as he gets more comfortable with the group, he really goes all out! Would absolutely take again.
Professor Coe is a great teacher who doesnt go too fast but neither too slow. Hes good at explaining difficult mathematical concepts and has a nice sense of humor. He gives a lot of take home quizzes and never checks the homework. He always answers question and goes over any homework questions.
He is a hard teacher to keep up at the beginning but after a while you get used to it. A lot of homework, but you do not have to do it. He does not grade homeworks. In our class he made a thing where if your final grade is higher than your average your final grade becomes your average. Not sure if he does that to other classes.
He's an okay professor. He doesn't check attendance. You also don't have to turn your camera on if it's an online class. If you're good at math you'll be fine. Don't forget to hand in assignments or exams though. He will not let you hand them in past the due date. The exams are usually 5 questions.
Professor Coe was an instructor who cared a lot and really has a passion for statistics. Listening to the concepts he talks about in class and then reading the textbook was key for me in getting a good grade. There are quizzes every week but they are often similar questions to textbook examples.
You must be on time, attend class, and pay attention. It is key to write down whatever he writes on the board. Quizzes are every week but very similar to the (*not mandatory*) homework. His speech can be hard to understand initially, but you get used to it and his jokes. Tell him when you can't read his handwriting. Ask questions.
He is just the sweetest idk why he has a low rating because he is very fair and wants you to do well. There's homework but the homework helps u prepare for the tests and quizzes. He provides good lectures and helps out with any questions. He grades very fair. Hes very intelligent and really is helpful. I recommend this professor
Professor Coe is a very humble but brilliantly intelligent man. Like most genius minds, he lacks in the social department. However, for how awkward he is he a great person and great professor. As opposed to other math classes he doesnt try to make it hard, he knows that the material itself his hard he doesnt try to trick you with the numbers.
Really humble guy. He is funny and nice and overall does the best to make sure you won't fail. He gives extra credit on every quiz that is super easy. The class is hard but he does his best to make sure you get a good grade. Overall great professor and I'm glad I got him for stats since I suck at math.
I had Prof Coe for Math006 & while math isn't my strong suit, I was able to pass with his help. Def cares alot & will help if you reach out. Homework every night (not mandatory), quiz every 1 - 1.5 weeks, test every 3.5 - 4 weeks. Is a little awkward socially but extremely nice. Def wouldnt have passed this class if I didnt take him, 10/10
Out of all the CALC teachers at Suffolk, take Coe. Trust me. Some take home quizzes and he tries to give you points anywhere he can on tests/quizzes. Do the homework, watch Asher Roberts (direct textbook teaching), or Math TV with professor V if you cant grasp his lectures. He also is very understanding and funny
Sweetest prof ever. He is caring of his students and answers any questions u might have. makes math easy and understandable. he answers to emails quickly if not he always gets back to you. I would definitely take him again!
Hes a nice person but in terms of teaching I'd say he's ok. His handwriting is really messy and can get hard to read. the Homework is hard but he doesnt collect it. Tests are hard as well. He doesnt respond to emails right away. it can get really hard to understand him too when he speaks.
It's a tricky class because it's a mix of topics. You learn how to do proofs - be prepared to spend time on HW. Behind his offbeat sense of humor is a thorough command of the material. Try to play "stump the prof" with a question and you will see. He knows his writing is messy and is good-natured about it. He encourages class participation.
I was a little scared by his reviews but for stats he was totally fine. If you get confused ask questions. I thought the tests and quizzes were easy. Homework isn't mandatory. He has a little speech thing but he's not hard to understand at all. A little cringy but silly and he means well.
Really sweet guy, difficult to understand at first but you get used to it. He is a really good grader tries to give points for everything possible. Homework is not mandatory but definitely helps reinforce his teachings.
Made this course very enjoyable. The test were so straight forward and extremely fair, even gave bonus points on them. There were many quizzes and many exams so he makes it very easy for you to potentially come back from 1 really bad grade and still get an A. Very funny as well
Prof. Coe easily has the most passion about his field than any professor I've had, he's also the funniest by far. Taking his class feels like a sitcom, but you learn a lot. Highly recommend.
he is funny
Prof. Coe is very knowledgeable and a kind person, but his teaching style made the class challenging. Even though the tests are very straight forward, the lectures were often unclear. He speaks fast and his handwriting on the board made it harder to understand the material. If you want to learn something, be ready to do some extra work on your own.
To start, Prof Coe is very hard to understand. He absolutely refuses to use any technology, he consistently talks over his time and holds test and homework information hostage until he's decides he's done. He could easily finish the lesson on time, but he goes on irrelevant tangents, filled with painful jokes and unnecessarily wordy problems.
Professor Coe is not a tough grader he grades assessments pretty fairly in my opinion. He constantly went over class time and waited till the literal last minute of class to tell you the homework but he does not check the homework. Was understanding of accommodations. Made statistic understandable.
