He is a fairly good teacher. He is fair. When writting papers just beware of citing things because he checks EVERYTHING! His laugh is something like I have never heard. Oh and he dosen't round up, for ex. 89.5% is a B+ which kind of sucks.

lectures are outlined online, tests are right from the book and multi choice. I didn't go to class, only read from book two days before scheduled test and aced every one! Only one written paper.

This professor is okay. His grading curve is awesome, but the tests are absolutely horrible. His lectures are pretty boring but, he gives a lot of facts which are very little help when it comes to exams. He is big on cause and effect.

Very ambiguous, it's hard to know what he wants, and what materiel will be covered on tests. Yet he does have a relaxed and easy going nature about him during class time.

Very intelligent, has a funny laugh. His tests are very hard, but he curves them (15-25% added to your score!) There are six in-class group projects, three exams, a research paper, and the rest is lecture time. I would reccomend him, quality teacher!

Class is very simple. Though you can read the book alone and learn all you need, if you go to class he tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests. Personality is a little dry, but he has the most interesting laugh.

He only graded us on four or five essays...no tests! And if we didn't like our essay grades, he let us revise them. A super easy class, boring at times. But easy...and he had a crazy laugh you have to hear to understand.

I learned more from the book then I did the lecture. Class was very boring. His laugh will help wake you up if you do end up falling a sleep. I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.

Boring class full of lectures. Projects are somewhat interesting, done in groups and worth approx 25% of grade. The tests are on the difficult side, you have to be a really good note taker to understand how he delivers the test. Result style notes. Laugh is kind of creepy, but pleasant.

Excellent teacher. If you participate in class you get more out of it. Lectures are more conversational style. Very approachable and willing to work around any problems you might have. Has a weird funky laugh...that will make you laugh!

Boring lectures and a long, boring book. I didn't read it so I did poorly on the tests. Luckily the group assignments are easy so it improved my grade. Take this class if you like to read long, boring history books.

Couldnt statnd this class. His lectures are very boring and you can only do well on his tests if you read EVERYTHING. The only nice thing is that he curves his exams. And he has a very annoying laugh

Awesome Teacher!!!!!!! I never read any books just took good notes and went to study sessions. Dr. Jones is a great prof and very helpful. Just don't be afraid to ask questions.

Dr. Jones is a great prof. with a laugh to boast (one of the best). The class may appear hard at first for a freshman because of the intense lecture and note-taking. I barely read the book but attended the SI sessions before each test and got an A in the class. The curve also helps out alot! About 18-20% will be added on your tests .

I totally disagree with some of the ratings on him! He's a GREAT history teacher! He's a little goofy and has terrible hair, but he knows his history. When he lectures, it's like he's telling a story, which makes it much easier to listen to. Tests are long and can be difficult if you dont read or study. He grades on a curve and has review sessions.

He is pleasant enough, but look out! I took many notes, studied hard, did fairly well on his tricky tests and yet he gave me a very low grade. I didn't understand that one. Way too many group projects with students that were lazy. Do not take him if you can avoid him. He is a nice teacher, but the class was not what I expected it to be.

U don't really know what his test r gonna b like. His class is VERY boring...and his notes are scrammbled all ova the board which make it hard for u 2 make ur notes neat & follow...but when i did go to him 4 help he did try to help me out..and he had some extra credit oppurtunities 4 our class...I wouldn say he is an average prof.

awful professor...im unsure why he would want to teach because he obvi has not intrest in students or helping them for that matter. his "outlint" he gives you, is impossible to follow..notes scattered...im sure there are much better professors to take that will actually care about your grade...avoid him if you can...i wish i would of

My class w/ this prof. was totally unlike those described below. We only had 3 exams + 1 simple grp project (relaxed + pretty easy) + an extra credit video assignm't. Not only did he make the history interesting, he has an ok sense of humor. + thanks to a generous curve, ea. of my tests were given an "A".

Great teacher, recommend for anyone. Will help you out if you ask. Tests are fairly easy with a good grading scale and the final isn't cumulative.

This guy is the best. He is an enthusiastic teacher who really knows his history. He lectures are totally clear. You always know what is expected of you. I have taken countless courses - and I have to say that this is as good as courses get. Great teaching, effective teaching, good personality. The class is easy if you put in moderate effort.

I think Dr. Jones is smokin' hot. He looks like Bruce Campbell. AND I loved his witty little quips that he laughs at. His class is pretty straightforward. Cite your work. Come to class a lot. Hes witty and charming.

I am so bored by this class, and the way he teaches is so ineffective and unoriginal. His at home assignments are a waste of time, and his study guides suck. He's a nice guy, but his class is just not interesting at all.

Very good teacher.He is very interesting and really knows what he is talking about.For thepeople who don't showup to class or play on yourlaptop,of course hes going to be boring. He is very willing to help but he wants you to find out the answers for yourself. Definately love this guy, corny jokes but full of knowledge and helpful,highly recommend

I loved having Professor Jones for history class. He's a fantastic educator, and his lectures are direct and to the point. I learned so much in his class. I love his laugh as well. Plus, I have to agree with the other person on here, he is gorgeous!

Amazing Prof. He taught both sides of every subject. It's important to take notes but other than that he's easy to follow. One of the greatest teachers I have ever had in History. If one follows along in class they can have a similar experience.

I liked him less and less as each class went by before I stopped attending class all together. His lectures are pointless because you have to read the book before taking the online quizzes each week (which are impossible to get a 100% on even if you use the book as an aid while you are taking it). He is a smart-ass. Don't take this class with him.

Very good teacher. I thouroughly enjoy his class. His lectures are interesting and engaging. Definately my favorite History Professor. He gives you good feedback on your homework to let you know what you can work on more. I advise getting him as a teacher. He is definately worth sitting in the cold room xD

I stopped going to class 1/2 way through because it's pointless. Lecture notes are online and all assignments are online so no point in class. Quizzes were impossible even with the book in front of you. He kept changing dates & I emailed him to check and he said it was my responsiblity to know, even though internet said 1 thing and he said another

The course I took was a hybrid course and there was a wiki web page that we had to make. It seemed hard but once you finally get to doing the work it is not bad.

This is a great professor. He knows the subject very well and teaches it well. So many of you students just out of high school have no concept of what learning is. If you rate a professor on how he looks/laughs you are a moron. Take control of your learning, get used to at least a few hours a night of homework for all your classes. Stop whining!

As long as you have the book in front of you, you will get an A on all of the quizzes. The class is a breeze. You don't have to go to class, just take the quizzes once a week. It took a couple weeks for me to get the hang of finding the answers in the book, but they're there. Easy class, great guy.

Hybrid online history class. Very confusing and a lot more unnecessary work like creating a wikipedia page on something that doesn't even have to pertain to the time period that the course is supposed to be about. Plus, he's super awkward.

online course - super easy to get an A - use the study guides and keep up to date. One quiz per wk - you can work at your own pace - as long as all the quizzes are completed by the end of the semester. Didn't love the wiki but it was an easy A as long as you met all the requirements. Text book - must have it! great course!

He know stuff about history def. but he is not organized. for exams he would say that he'd look for easy definition ,etc but when it comes to the grading he is REALLY picky especially for essays I would not recommend him at all...

EASIEST ONLINE COURSE EVER. Gives you study guides that are crystal clear and definitely help. Everything is based on about 15 quizzes over 18 chapters and 4 "method" quizzes. Separates the 15 quizzes into "blocks" of 4/5 quizzes, so you really only have 3 due dates.

I would not recomend taking this class online with him. He hasn't updated the Sylabus in 3 years, but has added assignments. So you have no clue when things are due.

The class was interesting and he was funny, sort of. the Sense of the Class projects were a nice reprieve. he has extremely helpful study guides. sometimes the class bounced around and didn't always follow chronological order, which can get confusing in history classes.

Hands down best history class that I have ever taken. I was fascinated after his lectures (his enthusiasm really rubs off on you). Do the study guides for the exams b/c they are the same exact questions. Sense of the class projects were fun and easy points.

I was dreading this class in the beginning (history isn't a strong subject for me), but Russell helped me like the class. His study guides are just like his exams and the Sense of the class are easy ways to earn points. There is a paper to be written and an essay part to his exams (3 in all, 1 per exam). I recommend him as a professor.

Jones is a good teacher. He changed the way he taught this semester. We got to create the questions for our exams. Sense of the Class projects are really fun. Study the study guides, you'll do well on the exams. Powerpoints and Recorded Lectures he put on EMU Online this semester. Easy to work with. Take his class.

Enthusiastic - makes MI history interesting. Three multiple choice tests; non-cumulative and in class group work. Recorded lectures are also available online. He lectures around concepts rather than chronologically which can make it very difficult to follow; all over the place! Go to class and re-listen to the lectures online and take notes.

Do not take this professor, he bases everything off of group evaluations and it is a lecture so no one remembers who you are, he is really difficult to work with and does not answer your questions. He does not listen or care to help you pass.

I've had a great experience in Dr. Jones' class. He decided to change things up this semester and I hope he continues to tweak and improve. We have had two large projects with more than enough prep time and a few small ones in class with lectures mixed in. He offers ample help and lectures are becoming less and less a part of the class. Recommended

Do not get him as a professor if you are NOT a history major. The entire class is in group projects, and your peers evaluate you and that determines your grade. Nothing ever made sense in this class. It was hard to follow and hard to understand his assignments. The directions to the assignments are longer then the assignment itself.

Jones is AMAZING, yes his class isn't cut and dry like most of them are, but he really gives you the chance to develop some real actual research. He allowed us to pick at topic we were interested in then create some sort of research project to present our findings. my group eventually presented ours at the undergrad symposium. Awesome class.

Certainly not cut and dry survey, as noted by others. You'll get out something fairly proportional to what you put in; if you contribute in the groups your grade will be fine and you'll leave something fairly useful. More of an instruction in method than facts. Lectures, untested, are interesting and worth listening to. Willing to explain things

This class is made up of almost all group projects. There is one individual project but you can submit it and he'll give you a grade and feedback and you can resubmit it as many times until you get your desired grade. He grades fairly and does group evaluations after every project. No homework. Pretty easy A

He is one of the best teachers I have taken. He makes it very clear what he want's from you in the projects by giving you an example. There are no test in his class except a optional final which can only boast your grade.

Okay, so this entire class is group projects. I thought I would hate it, but Jones is so great. You can literally get help with everything from him just go up and ask. Easy class and you will pass if you put in the effort.

It's barely a history class. He teaches you how to research, basically, using historical events for you to research. It's all group projects, aside from a bibliography, but it's honestly really easy as long as everyone does their part and you follow the example he gives you. He's a cool dude

He is very confusing with his assignment expectations, so be prepared to ask a lot of questions! If you email him he will respond immediately though. The whole class consists of a group project based on an aspect of Michigan history. Make sure you pick teammates who will be committed to working on the project because it's a big chunk of your grade!

All group projects. No exams. Not the friendliest but understanding about important issues. Very easy class, easy to pass. Most students in the class say they didn't feel like they actually learned through his projects but you kind of do. Be ready for his laugh to scare you on the first day. Remember to capitalize Americans it is his pet peeve.

Wouldn't take again

Jones was an easy A, the whole class focused heavily on group projects alone, he goes over the criteria needed very well, and he answers any questions clearly. My only problem with this course is that you don't actually learn much. The course is basically about researching History to prove sources, not exactly the context of any events.

There are basically 2 projects that you get to choose, and the whole class revolves around them and related assignments (like reviews of classmates' projects) Very project heavy, but he's a great lecturer. Funny, don't need notes because his lectures are so memorable, no exam. TLH Modelconfusing, but do your work like a big kid and you'll do good

There's a lot of group work but it is done in class and he gives you most of the research you really need so you can focus on the concepts instead of doing research. He teaches how to use the historical method and you learn about history through that. Some of his classes are lectures, he lets you choose the topic for the last few weeks.

I personally hated Jones because the entire class was one group project with somewhat confusing instructions. He has one lecture day with useless lectures. The other day he expects you to work with your group and doesn't even care if you come to class. You're not ever tested on the lectures but he does have attendance credit. No final.

Jones was great. I really learned a lot about Michigan History in this class. He also teaches you how to think critically and do research of your own in history, rather than just telling you names and dates. There are two major group projects that your grade is based around. He is very helpful if you need help with research.

You won't spend a penny on books. No tests. All group projects, which I thought I'd have trouble with, but it turned out to be a worthwhile learning experience. I took 2 classes with him. Relatively easy yet fun A's. Recommended.
