omg this man is crazy no multiple choice, doesnt tell you whats going to be on the test expect to know the whole book. Somewhat arrogant.

Nice guy, he seems to want his students to have a real life understanding, but he goes way to fast through lectures and no extra credits on the test or in the class to help bumper the ride. He makes orgo understandable but expect to study alot because he wants you to know everything. He would be perfect if he realized Orgo NEEDS EXTRA CREDIT!!!

The courses he teaches are tough courses and he knows his stuff. He is one of the most helpful professors I have ever known - maybe not during class time but he goes out of his way to encourage students to visit him during office hours or to attend extra study sessions. He will help you get the grade you want but you have to earn it.

Orgo is not an easy subject. People need to realize this. People also need to realize that you need to practice the material at home in order to understand what's going on. The solution manual helps a lot. Prof. Betts may go through the slides and explanations a bit fast but he encourages people to go to his office. Which helps greatly, trust me.

Hard.His only test advice is "study everything". Which is accurate, since everything will be on his tests. However, he will answer any question THAT YOU ASK HIM in as much detail as you need, and invite to his office if you still don't understand. If you put ALOT of time in this class you will do well. I didn't and dropped. But it was my own fault.

Dr. Betts is a professor and isn't a good match for some students. He taught what is in the book and expect you to know it. He will go out of his way to increase office hours if it means coming to class early every day. Read the book or powerpoints, ask questions, you'll do great. too bad I dont like chm, but I would take him again.

He does great job going far and beyond to make himself available. However, in a 6 week term most prof. crossed out chapters, or curved the exam, he did not, he went over everything except three chapters. His exams are very hard, make sure to use the tutaring service at the lib. that will help.

He is very helpful. I would recommend him. All you have to do is study hard and keep track. He is amazing teacher, funny and very helpful. But you have to study realllyyyy hard for his tests. Some tests are fair some are not. But if your major is chemistry and you really want to learn this subject. TAKE HIM. :)

Organic Chemistry isnt an easy subject, but Dr.Betts explains the subject very well, he does goes fast at times but its because we have much material to cover, but in he also offers MANY!!! office hours, I recommend you use them. Good Luck! BTW i got an A in the course

Betts reminds me of the army. Very cool guy but very serious at the same time. He is extremly helpfull. Labs are very straight up. STUDY EVERYTHING to do the exams. Only 3 examns. Labs are like 5% of the grade. I would deffenetly recomend him.

Russell is a brilliant guy. He knows his material and is excited about his field. Takes time, whether in class or during numerous office hours, to ensure you understand the material. makes class interesting and wont bs you about what you need to know. Not an easy class, but you will learn more than you think, and retain it!

Awesome professor, i hated chemistry until i took his class. He makes organic chem very interesting. His exams are not hard but require you to know general concepts. I audited the class because i had to work overnights.

Dr Betts is a goodt teacher, although you have to be willing to learn, pay attention to what is being taught,and do some research on your own. Having done that, you can achieve a good grade. He's always ready to help if you have questions. Overall, a great teacher who knows how to teach.

He is a very good teacher, and people have to understand that Chemistry is just plain out hard. But he is very good at helping students understand it. Study everyday and always refer to all the material b4 any test bcasue he will ask questions from the begining even on the last test.

I took professor Betts for winter 2013.I passed with an A. He is a really tough professor but his lectures are extremely benefiting. He explains with clarity and he ensures that everyone understands the material. He gives quizes every class but they are not hard at all... they come from his lecture slides... the exact same questions!!

Great instructor! First time taking chemistry- and I'm happy I passed!! It was ALOT of work though, and he specifys in the beginning of the course that it will be difficult. I used to take my tests into his office and he would go over what i missed and explain in detail what happened, which i really appreicate in an instructor. Would take him again

Very nice and helpful. I only took him for lab in the summer. We skipped several material since it was 6 wks course. His tests are online. You can miss 1 lab w/out penalty, he drops lowest score. You must be on time or you won't get in. You must wear coat and goggles. It was not as hard as I thought. Organic part was not easy for me.

Dr. Betts is an excellent instructor. He is very clear in the material he teaches. He is helpful and does not mind answering questions. He is also available during office hours. He grades fairly. He gives you all the opportunities to pass his course. Make sure to read and practice the material. An "A" is doable in his class.

One of the absolute best instructor I've had in a long time. Dr. Betts is very knowledgeable in most areas of science not just chem. He uses many analogies and demonstrations in class that you as a student could relate to. If you still don't get the material, you can see him in his office and he'll explain it to you individually. I got an A.

Dr. Betts is one of the best professors I've had. Failed this class before (with different professor) and was terrified of taking it again. He is VERY helpful and great at explaining the material. I actually learned this time around and earned an A. Not an easy class at all, but if you put in the effort & time, you can do it! Definitely recommend!

Dr. Betts is an amazing teacher. The quality of his teachings are very good. He is very tough on tests, but if you read the material and study, you will pass with flying colors. I also took his CHEM1032L and it was cake!

Dr. Betts wants his students to learn. We have a quiz every class and it's pretty much pass/fail. He gives online quizzes, too. His exams are extremely hard. He told us that our exams are cumulative from Gen. Chem I for an organic II class. I think we have enough to learn besides re-learning everything prior.

Doctor Betts is amazing. I took his class over the summer. He gives a quiz everyday. Pretty simple. He is very clear and has office his. He is very helpful and willing to help you understand.

Just finished this class. I would not recommend the 6 weeks summer class. I did manage to get an A but it was very challenging. That said, he gives extra credit on some tests and homework and teaches a complex subject competently. I wish I would have taken a full semester and really gotten more into it. Not an easy class but an A or B is doable.

Amazing instructor. Challenges you intellectually in class so you are a better critical thinker on the exams. People just want to be spoon fed-and he doesn't do that. Rough exams but do your hw and study your notes you will be okay. Took for orgo 1 & 2.

Dr Betts is very helpful & clear when teaching. Chemistry itself is not an easy subject but if you pay attention & stay on top of your D2L & Mastering Chem you will do fine! He gives examples that are easy to understand & takes the time to answer students questions. He teaches fast but ALL his lectures are up on Youtube! TAKE NOTES & STUDY TO PASS!

I used to hate Chemistry before getting DR betts . Very knowleable . He knows how to teach chemistry and make u understand it . He do quiz every class ( right from lecture slide ) your final grade is 10% ( D2L) assignments , 10% mastering chemistry assignments , 10% class quizzes and 70% tests ( 3 exam and 1 final ) TAKE HIM the best instructor !!

Getting a B in this class is manageable if you study beforehand for the quizzes everyday and getting an A isn't difficult either. It just requires time and patience to learn the material. Good professor, Dr. Betts is there to help you. If you don't understand something, go to his office and read the book.

Pre-medpharm must take organic with Dr. Betts. His class is great prep for MCATPCAT. His humor makes class fun but it is a tough course. Buy book (old is ok) do practice prob. Ever need help go to Dr. Betts's office he's very helpful. U really learn in class. Go 2 class, take notes, review 4 daily quizzes and you'll do great. Loved the class!

Took Dr. Betts for orgo 1&2. It's a tough subject but Dr. Betts gives you tools to understand any q that comes ur way. I liked 2 more than 1 but just take notes, practice probs from book, read, keep up w online quizzes and u shld be fine. Ask qs if u don't understand. Go to office hrs, Dr. Betts is very helpful. He makes everything SO interesting and doesn't make you feel silly when asking a question even though he's went over it a dozen times, he just explains it again. Dr. Betts is an amazing professor. Took him for CHM 1040 over the summer and he made everything very easy to understand. His lectures are interesting and he explains everything clearly. Gives plenty of problems to help students understand material. He gives daily quizzes which could be tough. Tests are not easy so study hard.

He is a great professor! Really cares about his students and makes the class fun. I took him for organic chem 1 and got a 100 in the class. As with any science course you must study. The more you study the better you do. Honestly, I found this class to be a lot better then general chemistry. There is a quiz almost every class so prepare.

Great teacher!! He has a lot of learning tools for his students. I was wary of Chemistry but he made it fun and I ended up enjoying class! Take Dr. Betts. There is a lot of reading and online homework, but it makes the tests a lot easier. He was approachable after class to go over problem areas. The practice questions online are extremely helpful! I knew nothing about chemistry before class. Passed with an A+. Put effort in, do all online content before your exam and you will succeed.

He's a great chemistry teacher. Everything is clear. Just make sure you take good notes. My suggestion would be to go on D2L and read the class slides before coming to class. It's chemistry, so it's not get easier than this. If you study your notes and ask for help on things you don't understand you'll get an A. just be serious about this subject

The professor is great. Always there for you. He gives a lot of extra material which help a lot to understand chemistry! His lectures are fun ! He will answer any question , so dont be afraid to look silly!

He is very helpful. He will not give you the answers to something but he will help you figure it out during the lab. With the test make sure to study all aspects of the lab readings because you don't know what you're going to get until you see the test.

He's really nice, funny and explains things clearly, but also does his job, only mistake he made was giving us our 3rd exam without telling us the class before to even get ready, 86% of the class failed it, he told us for the 1st and second, quite dirty, make sure you check the syllabus and do the online assignments if you plan on taking him 3/5

I got a B, but if I put in just a bit more effort it would've been an A, his lectures are awesome, I found him HILARIOUS! He tells you what to take notes on from the Powerpoints, he has study guides available, which do help! Also, has easy homework assignments.

As any other great educator professor Betts knows how to explain hard things with easy examples, he knows how to keep your attention(he has several jokes in his arsenal) and he is always ready to help you during the office hours. He loads lectures(video), power points and flash cards as learning tools to D2L which were very helpful.

Honestly wow! This professor explains like I've never thought I'd be able to get chemistry but they he explains it makes me look forward to learning. He actually teaches you! Plenty of resources outside of lectures to help you learn, Use them!!! He has videos on you tube of all chapter problems step by step. There is also quite a bit of online required homework, just do it as you go along and don't fall behind. If you put in the time and study you should do good in his class. Funny too!

If i could click amazing lectures 44 times I would. I was never into chem until Prof Betts. He goes with the pace of how your class understand the material. he is particular about tests but he is very clear prior to tests about what he wants. he makes orgo easy. DO NOT TAKE ORGO WITH ANYONE ELSE.

I took his 2 hour & 45 minute class so there was a lot. The more notes you take, the better. Chemistry is not an easy course so be ready to do a lot of studying. He had connect quizzes up to 5 tries & answers were in the notes. Exams were not bad, just study, study, study

Prof. Betts has been one of my favorite professors at BC. I took both Organic 1 & 2 with him. I couldn't be happier with my decision to choose him as my professor. Be prepared to take very in depth notes. Exams are typically 4-8 questions, no multiple choice. Questions on exams are always concepts covered in class. First day quiz is "bonus".

Chemistry is a very tricky subject and this class definitely a challenge. He tries to make his lectures relatable and encourages class participation. Just be ready to study hard. It's a lot of straight memorization. But if you have the dedication to get an A, it is possible.

Dr. Betts gave us many avenues to learn the material in order to USE IT, not just remember for an exam. online lecture videos, group worksheets & quizzes, individual worksheets & quizzes;practice worksheets. funny & responds same day to emails. Dr. Betts is a great professor. Extremely knowledgable in his field and he is funny, too! I took him for a 6-week block course and I am extremely happy with the outcome. He is tough and doesn't give much grace, but if you work hard you will succeed. He makes it evident that he really cares about BC and his work, which is definitely noticed by me.

Professor Betts fills the hour and 40 min. with a lecture. Got through the chapters pretty fast, but he explained everything. If you are confused and don't speak up, you will fail. Also took for CHM1032L and that was twice as easy as the lecture. If you don't show up, if you don't do the work, you won't pass.

Great professor! I took him during the summer, so I had class Mon-Thurs. Quiz every class. If you pass the first three exams and you're satisfied with your grade, you don't have to come to the final. Highly recommend him if you want to learn.

One of the best professors at Bc. Group work was easy as long as you had your notes. The exams were tough but he has an online study guide which is identical to the test, if you fail you didnt try .

Great Professor. This was honestly my favorite class all semester. Not the most personable and unique personality, but can lectures via video very well. Be prepared to do a group assignment every class and self learn through his videos vs. in person. If you like your grade you don't sit the final.

I felt Dr. Betts was an excellent teacher. He provided videos that can be watched as much as needed. I felt Dr. Betts truly wanted us to understand the material and was always ready to help. I got an "A" in his class, but i had to work for it. If you liked you grade you were not required to take the final exam.

I like how he posts the grades right away so we know where we stand. He does not give extra credit. But, if you listen to the lecture and study a little you can get a good grade. I also like how your final grade isnt just tests. But, homework, quizzes and classwork. It was good for me since I'm not the best test taker.

I took his blended online class, so majority of his course work (lectures & all quizzes) were completed online at home. Went to class once a week (hour tops) for homework assignments & asking questions. He is very knowledgeable on the topic, explains tough topics to better understand. Overall, if you put the work in & study you will pass his class

Professor Betts is the best. I never understood chemistry before taking his class. I didn't have knowledge on this subject before his class and still had a good outcome! Take this class on campus. Professor Betts was an AWESOME lab instructor. I loved the way he had us do our lab experiments : always with a partner or in groups. Make sure you take him for lab and for lecture. This is my very 1st time taking Chemistry in my life. He has a great sense of humor. I really didn't want this class to end. He is the best professor I've ever had.

He places his lectures online which is perfect cause that allows you to rewind as much as you need to, in order to grasp the info. That was extremely helpful being that I never had Chemistry in high school. If you read the book and do the work the quizzes will be a breeze. If you fail, that means you didn't do your part. He wants everyone to pass.

hands down my favorite professor at BC. His lectures are amazing and goe into depth for every topic to ensure we can succeed even beyond his course. I transferred to University of Florida after taking orgo 1 with him and I jumped straight into Orgo 2 at UF and I passed with a B at UF. Betts is a great professor and he really prepares you for orgo 2

The professor him self is a nice teacher which is why I have him 4 stars but the class is very hard. You will be taking lots of notes and will have to study ALOT.

Professor Betts was very clear about the curriculum. The things we talked about in class directly transferred to the exam- no grey area. He pre-records his lectures so you can watch them on your own time and use the scheduled class time to ask questions. If you don't do well in his class, it's you, not him.

You have to purchase Knewton to do your work It is an easy A, lots of assignments 5 exams, 2 Proctored, 13 knewton quiz, 2 discussion, 4 assignments 1 for extra credit. He really give you a chance to pass the class. most of the test are in Chegg

i took this class virtually during the pandemic and it was my first time ever taking chemistry. Personally i wouldn't say it was hard however, he does assign LOTS of work. There's about 11 chapters & assignment, and for every chapters there's about 5 quiz you have to take after each video lectures. 3 test. Attendance matter which is pointless

I took this class remotely and honestly I didnt know what to expect but it wasnt that bad. If you study study study you will pass this class. Hes also very nice and helpful when it comes to answering questions and helping after class hours with school related issues.

I took his blended and accelerated course this summer, it was tough but if you're committed you'll pass. He didn't lecture during class which is understandable because the content is extensive, we had to watch pre-recorded videos, send our notes, post video quizzes & assignments. Take notes, Study & you'll pass!

Russell Betts is a tough professor but also is very caring of his students, however dont screw around with him , Most of the answers are easily accessible through chegg should you be having problems with your homework but you definitely want to learn with him as he teaches it better than High school. At first I thought that it would be impossible to have a Lab online, but the professor was so engaging, truly interested in what he was doing- I didn't even notice how I passed. Class would need a little bit of dedication and involvement. Professor was very responsive via email. Enjoyed it!

Took him for CHM1045L, was supposed to be physical but it was changed to online. Good at answering questions and wants to help you if you are having trouble. I did not do any physical labs but the reports are easy. The only bad thing is he does not tell you what is going to be on the exams at all, but they are easy and only a third of your grade.

he explains very very well. Very clear when explaining. He also give you formulas and periodic table to use during exams. Great professor. You have to tell him you don't understand something, if you don't, and make time to meet him in office hours, like I did. He has no problem helping.

Best class I took online ! I didnt understand it at first until I did. It was very easy just do the work and you will pass the class ! I passed with a C only because I didnt turn in work on time just be aware of the due dates !! They come very quick

I really enjoyed Dr Betts's class. His teaching style made me enjoy chemistry. His class is flipped so you take notes on his lectures (which are on Youtube) outside of class and then do the assignments in class. You can ask questions about anything you don't understand and collaborate with other students. Use the review questions online for exams!!

Dr. Betts is a good teacher but not the best. If you are planning to take this course, you must have understood chemistry before because HE DOES NOT LECTURE. They are quizzes, lecture notes, and 1 assignment due each week. He provides study guides for exams, do not forget to study!!!

You should know that the lectures are done online via YT videos and assignments are done in class with groups. It's a very manageable class and the material isn't very difficult. He's willing to answer any questions during class time or online. Just do the notes & assignments and show up to class and you should get at least a B.

Professor Betts is amazing! We used an online tool named Knewton. He explains everything thoroughly and his passion for teaching Chemistry is unmatched. I've taken Chemistry in New York and he is a phenomenal Professor. He cares about his students learning and understanding the information. I enjoyed his class so much and so will you. Take it!

Professor Betts is a very good professor and gives very good lessons. His lecture class time is mostly to work on homework, while his actual lectures are to be watched through YouTube, but I really liked it that way. The one thing I would change is the ALEKS requirement of this course, it is a lot of work!

Betts has a dry humor but that's ok.. get past that. He's incredibly smart!! His lectures can be found on youtube, and they are very interactive, including practice questions that he goes over like in real time. Notes are graded, there's homework assignments too that you do at home/in class & he'll address any questions you may have during class.

He does not tell you what is on exams so you need to take good notes when he lectures and ask questions any time you don't understand something. Also make sure you understand why you are doing certain procedures in the lab and go to class, you can only miss one lab without penalty.

I loved him. Lecture notes were in D2L as videos/powerpoints. In class we did homework which was easy. He will help if you ask. He gives 3 exams. The study problems and homework he gives are the same as the ones on the tests. Attendance and chapter quizzes were bonus. The Aleks grade replaced the lowest exam score too. His class is very manageable.

He is the best! he has videos online so you go to class knowing about the subject so you can ask questions. He takes time to explain, offers office hours to help students, and he is clear from day 1. Just put effort and he will go above and beyond to help you. I would definitely take him again, and I will definitely use his videos for Org chem 2.

10/10 Dr. Betts is exceptional! He puts genuine effort, passion and patience into his class. Do the same, and you will succeed. He combines teaching styles, and works with you in class on practical problems. His lectures are online (allinwithdrbetts) on youtube. This course was labour intensive, and so worth the effort. Thank you Dr. Betts!

His method of teaching his blended classes is called flipped teaching where you watched the lecture online and in-class you work on the homework and ask him questions. A lot of notes need to be submitted for grading before class. Also a lot of ALEKS for his class.

I would 100% take Dr. Betts again if he was teaching Organic II. This is not an easy class, but he makes it possible to get an A with watching his videos and asking questions during class time.

Bett's rating on RMP is not reflective of his teaching at all. This is a professor that cares so long as you care. Organic chemistry is a hard course objectively, but he breaks it down perfectly. Another thing to note is he has perfected a flipped classroom where he helps with the assignments in class and lecture notes are your responsibility.

Dr. Betts is the best organic chemistry professor. He's a great teacher& really cares about his student& makes himself available during office hours to help with whatever you need. He's a fair grader on exams, &has very helpful lecture videos/practice problems that help alot when studying! I wish he taught orgo2. Highly recommend his class
