Very interesting lectures. If you don't like hearing the brutal honest truth about the world don't take him. Big grading scale and will help you out with your grade if you attend class regularly.
He is a very cool teacher. Definitely recommend him to anyone that has to take Sociology 101. His Lectures are always interesting and can hold your attention. Going to class is a must. You will have 3 - 4 tests in his class and these will be your only grades so make sure you do well on them.
Great teacher! He forces you to rethink everything you know about the world, and isn't afraid to step on some toes! My favorite professor thus far, I recommend him to anyone. ^^
He's VERY into what he does but also VERY into what he believes. Almost PUSHES his opinions on you, which would irritate me sometimes because I'd have different thoughts but still easy class in you GO TO CLASS & take the notes. He uses HUGE words on the tests though that make them a little hard to figure out. I'd recommend him though. Easy grade.
awesome teacher!!
He is my favorite professor. He'll keep you laughing and crave for more.
He does talk fast but if you pay attention then it's not a problem. He's the best professor I've ever had and I actually looked forward to going to this class. Very awesome and very unpredictable . I highly recommend you taking him.
For all of you who think that castro is some sort of teaching god, let me inform you of some things. He often lies in his lectures, not about sociology but his storied are almost all bull. He is liberal, but he doesnt understand what it really means to be that way. He is part of the system now. He has lost what once was his revolutionary sense.
really good teacher...very interesting! WOULD RECCOMEND!!
i took castro in fall 2009...he is very entertaining but his test r really hard..u gotta study..if he sees that ur trying he'll help ur grade..the "pop test" doesn't exist just show up and he gives u an A..overall good class but u gotta work
I will honestly say he is the teacher I liked the most out of all the teachers I have had. He is very entertaining in class and he knows the material very well. The best part about him is he runs on a 15 point grading scale, so it is not hard to get a good grade in his class, I would recommend him to everyone.
He is the best college professor i have had so far. He was the most interesting, but his tests are difficult, STUDY! He changes the grading scale and curves the tests. I thought when i walked out of the class after the final that i had a C, but ended up with an A. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Most Liberal man I have ever met. He teaches mostly the truth, but puts his two cents in too without letting the class know. I dreading going to his class, but was an easy A
He is the most Liberal man, and adds his opinions in with the facts. Easy A though
Mr. Castro is AWESOME! He keeps you entertained while learning. He lectures, and speaks very fast! pay attention! ask for extra credit at the beginning of the semester! Grading scale is weird and tests are hard but he curves the grade a lot! his class is easy but pay attention!!!
amazing teacher, really funny, keeps your interest!
A very interesting teacher...easy to listen to...unfortunately I don't find the subject material easy to comprehend. The tests are so hard, but there is a chance for extra credit.
GREAT teacher. Keeps his classes lively and interesting. Very passionate about his subject and fun to listen to. Time goes by fast in his class. He is really unclear about what exactally must be known for test but if you go to class and pay attention you should do good.
Mr Castros class is very interesting and he has alot of fun teaching, so students stay focused, test are pretty easy, just be sure to take good notes off his lectures and you wont really even need the book.
He is an awesome teacher, and really keeps your attention! The tests are not impossible, but you must study; his grade scale is lenient though! I would recommend him to anyone!
If you're interested in learning about Castro's opinions of the world and NOT sociology, then take him. Horrible teacher. Likes to go off on the Catholic church and how he thinks politics should be on a daily basis, and I really did not see how that taught me anything about sociology.
Took this class on line. You still have to show up in campus for exams but if you watch the lectures and take notes you'll do fine.
Worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't teach sociology, he teaches conspiracy theories against republicans, and they are never accurate.Talks about suggestive things. He tells you to think for yourself because the world is wrong and yet he shoves his opinion down your throat. He is very anti-christian,and constantly bashes it.NEVER TAKE HIM AGIAN
Great teacher. If your open minded you will learn alot. some would feel hes outlandish but if you research what he talks about its all fact.
Very interesting class. Must study for test but he curves the grades.
this man is a freak of nature and amuses the hell out of me. his tests r easy and his lectures rn't bad at all
LOVE HIM! NICE AND FUNNY GUY. CAN BE SLIGHTLY INTIMIDATING. HE ISNT AFRAID TO CALL PEOPLE OUT OR SAY WHAT EVERYONE IS REALLY THINKING, BLATENLY HONEST ABOUT ALL WALKS OF LIFE. HE MAKES THE CLASS INTERESTING AND I DONT FEEL LIKE I NEED ADDERAL TO GET THROUGH IT. HIS TEST CAN BE DIFFICULT BUT IF YOU GO TO CLASS AND PAY ATTENTION EASY A
I have mixed feelings about this teacher. He is very interesting and will keep you awake and his grading scale is the best on campus! BUT he talks really fast. Barely writes notes on the board. Doesnt have an outline so he rarely knows what he has even taught to put on the test. So use the book and you should do fine! I would recommend.
He is a very interesting teacher. The only problem though is that his tests are very difficult even if you study, read the book, and go to class. Dont take if you are looking for an easy A!!! The 15 point grading scale helps.
Extremely charismatic and easy to like. His lectures are extremely interesting due to his free style of speech and open sense of humor. His personal views leak into the material a bit, but otherwise he was perfectly fine as a teacher. His tests are a bit hard, but it's all worth it to be able to hear him lecture, believe me.
This class is very interesting. His personal views do tend to come up in every lecture, but if you can get past that you can learn a good bit. I enjoyed hearing his lectures.
Took him last spring... Talks a lot but you learn a lot!!! His class wasn't hard, show up and do what he asks, respond in class.... You will be fine!
AWESOME TEACHER!!!!! VERY FUNNY!!! VERY INTELLIGENT!!! HE MAKES ME WANT TO COME TO CLASS AND LEARN!!!
He is an amazing teacher. I actually wanted to come to class and learn. He's grading scale is amazing it's a 12 point grading scale. As long as you review your note and study you'll get a good grade in the class.
His class will keep you awake and interested. He has the best grading scale and also gives you an A on a test for showing up. A great teacher that I would recommend to anyone.
Awesome guy. He gives a lot of his own thoughts in his lectures, but he keeps them interesting. He usually dismisses class 15-30 mins early and attendance isn't required. His tests are pretty difficult but you should still do fine because of his 12 point scale. He also gives a 90 test grade for doing nothing just to boost your grade even more.
Weird class, but it is impossible to fail. He uses a 15-point grading scale (so if you make a 85 or higher, you have an A). The class itself sucks, and if you are conservative, be prepared to he some liberal idiocracy. Overall, he is the best person to take for a good and easy grade.
Mr. Castro is an excellent professor. He is aware that life happens and does his best to allow students as much time as possible for all exams. Great at answering questions. Consistent availability. I really enjoyed him, might take the class again to get a better grade, because he is an enjoyable instructor.
My favorite professor by far. He is so interesting! Tells great stories and gives entertaining lectures, love him! Uses a 12 pnt grading scale, it's impossible to fail this class if you actually go to class.
Mr. Castro is a good teacher. He does tend to include his opinion quite a bit, but that's beside the point. His test are exactly like his notes. Only downfall is that he doesn't use blackboard. Exempted me from final because I had an A. Would recommend him for 101.
I really enjoyed this class. Castro really knows his stuff and keeps the subject matter very interesting. He is hilarious and the presentation of his information is very engaging. Castro is overall and excellent educator and I frequently recommend him to my friends. TAKE HIM!!
Amazing professor! I am a senior, and he has been my favorite professor by far!Knows his stuff, super intelligent and passionate about this subject area. I would recommend any major take this course with him before graduating! You will be glad you did. I have learned so much in his class!
I honestly didn't think I would like him, but he is one of my favorite professors now!! Very fair, very straightforward, very interesting. His tests aren't that bad and the grading scale is amazing.
Great professor. Curves all his tests
Very interesting class, he makes class fun and exciting. Classes are not boring at all. Tests are sort of hard but he curves tests a lot. If you don't take notes you won't do well on tests because they are based on notes and readings.
loved him! perfect teacher for 8am bc he is crazy and wakes you up! he knows his stuff. lots of experience in the field so i trusted his information. tons of notes! doesnt post anything online. portfolio really helps your grade! if you come to class and try hard, you get an A
His first 2 test are HARD but the final is kind of easy and he CURVES SO MUCH!! take him! You will be scared at first but I promise he is a great teacher!! You must go to class and take notes in order to pass
Very good teacher! Loves teaching and dedicated to his students! Not an easy A or B, but not super hard. I made an A because I paid attention, took diligent notes, participated in class, and talked to him outside of class. If you show interest, he will help you out and make the class easier for you. If you slack off, the class will be hard.
FAVORITE TEACHER!!! I looked forward to going to this class everyday. Even if I said I'd leave class early, I never did. He always lets you out early. He'll be mid-sentence then say "We've been here long enough. Dismissed." Sooo funny! Lots of experience in his field. Very passionate. Definitely recommend him!! Your search stops here:)
I absolutely loved his class. I have never taken a sociology class before but he made me very interested in the subject. He is very experienced in the field and knows exactly what he is talking about. The tests are not extremely hard but not easy. As long as you pay attention to lectures and take good notes you will do fine. I definitely recommend!
Castro is the best. I loved his class. He always made it interesting.one of my favorite instructors. If you ever need help you can always stay after class or attend his office hours.
Mr. Castro is an amazing professor who makes Sociology interesting. His thought-provoking lectures were the highlights of my mornings. Please enroll in his class if you are able to because he is amazing! He is also available in the event you may need help. It isn't difficult to earn an "A" in the course as long as you study.
He is a cool guy and I loved hearing him talk. He is hard to take notes for but I never studied for the test and always got C's.
His tests come straight from the notes you take in class. If you study them, you should do well. He's entertaining, so you won't have to worry about falling asleep. Overall, I'd recommend his class.
Very interested in what he does which makes the class entertaining. He does not sit still and talks ALL class. His tests come straight from his notes and the readings he assigns but they are difficult. The grading scale in his class allows you to have an A as low as an 84. He makes inappropriate comments related to women and different races.
Loud and funny. you will not be bored in this class. Must take and study your notes VERY well. there is some text book reading involved. test are multiple choice. some of his comment may seem harsh but they are to enhance the material. Have and open mind and be open to new ideas.
He was very entertaining! His grading scale is ALOT broader than 10 points, and he is very helpful! I enjoyed his class and the test were pretty much the terms
This was my favorite class this semester and he was one of my favorite teachers. His lectures were very interesting and exciting. Has an awesome grading scale. Some comments he make can come off as harsh but he means no harm. Take good notes and study and you do great in this course. I highly recommend Castro!
GOOD TEACHER! HIS GRADING SCALE IS AWESOME!!!!!TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN! YOU WILL PASS!!!
WOW!! Not an easy A but everyone should be required to take Soc 101 with Castro! He will blow your mind. I LOVE HIM!! ...but be warned every teacher you take after his will be so boring. He is a fast talker so take really good notes and STUDY! You will not get sleepy or bored in his class!
summer/term 1:Castro is very vocal & encourages class participation. It is important to attend every class, as he covers 1chapter per lecture. He tells you exactly what you need to know so you can go back to the book & study. Tests are a challenge but he has an amazing grading scale. I wish all professors were as interesting as Castro!
Very vocal and enthusiastic. Was not the easiest A I earn but I definitely recommend his class. First test was the hardest and he does expect you to read the book but only 3 out of 50 questions are from the book so don't worry. He keeps the class interested throughout. You will not be bored. No homework or extra assignments so study!
I was nervous about this class at first, but he is an amazing teacher. He doesn't grade hard, no homework, or extra assignments. Southeastern needs more teachers as interesting as him. TAKE HIM!
He is hilarious, very vocal, but doesn't shove his opinions down your throat. He's hilarious and KNOWS what he's talking about. I remember having to read some textbook but not a lot and he gave the page numbers. If you go to class and pay attention the tests should be super easy. Easy to make an A in his class because of his grading scale!
LOVE HIM! Super funny so keeps class interesting and test are exactly notes in class! Helps you anytime you need it! I strongly recommend taking him!
The best professor I have had so far! His tests are fairly easy if you study youre notes. He will never put you to sleep! Very interesting & funny! TAKE HIMMM!!!
Mr. Castro is a fireball. Sociology is definitely a topic that expands the mind and gets you thinking. At times he can be a little offensive. Just get ready any republicans or Christians- he may start screaming while standing on top of a table. He has an awesome grading scale- got a solid A. Take him!
This teacher is terrible! Only gave a midterm and final. His tests were tricky too.
Probably the most entertaining professor I have ever had. Always keeps class entertaining. Only gave a midterm and final and I made an 84 and a 74 on them and still made an A in the class. Go to class and show you care and you will do fine. If you don't go to class you will struggle because he goes over alot. Also has a 15 point grading scale.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but success in this class depends on it. He gives a LOT of notes only in class. He is very intelligent, energetic, and comical. He's a great teacher but he only gave two grades and they were tests. I don't particularly enjoy the study of sociology, but he made it interesting.
If you are a student that needs resources to study, and not just a book to read and decipher- then this is not the teacher for you. GREAT teacher, don't get me wrong. Great at explaining things, but expects you to learn it on spot and have it STICK for the exam, which for me, did not! Wasn't my kind of atmosphere, but he is easy to most.
My favorite teacher at Selu. He is extremely helpful. The course is content heavy but if you attend class and take notes you will pass with atleast an B. He is very understanding and actually cares about his students.
His lectures are wonderful. He's very passionate about what he teaches, its not just book, book, book. He's also pretty funny & he has a lot of experience in a lot of different things. You can tell when a lecture is almost over because he gets very intense about the subject & you can tell he means it. I love his class, I'm going to take it again!
He is a really interesting professor. Lectures are amazing. You have to go to class. He curves the tests. I made a 74 on my first test and that is a B. He also does an extra credit if you join SSA, he will raise you an entire letter grade.
Good teacher, knows his stuff. Test are hard especially if you do not attend class. He makes very rude and offensive comments. I would not take him.
Castro is amazing, he is very energetic and loves the science of sociology very much. He gives tons of notes so class attendance is imperative and he may offend some people but everything he says is the truth so you will learn. Great Professor!
Really good teacher and his lectures are interesting! You have to take your own notes, so class is a must.. Most stuff that is on the test he always tells you to write down and will repeat several times! His changes the grading scale if the first test has low scores! Definitely take him!
I wouldn't suggest taking this professor. Even his freshman courses are extremely time consuming. Definitely not an option to miss class if you want a decent grade - (and prepare to write fast!) He shoves his liberal opinions down your throat, so be prepared for that. He also doesn't reply to emails, so don't try to get in touch with him that way.
Castro is awesome! You take your own notes so of course you have to go to class and write at a decent speed but it's not horrible. He'll write main points on the board so you can write them down and then write more when he elaborates on them. He offered BIG bonus this past semester, so big that it raised my grade A WHOLE LETTER GRADE!
Tests are a little hard considering it is a minor class. Lectures are great he's a well educated man and loves the topics. Grading scale is like 12 pts, join the Soc club and get bumped up a letter grade
I loved his class SO much. Its a lecture class (prepare for notes) He goes out of the book but he really expands on it so there are a lot of notes, most of them are spoken. Outside of class, he was really cool; he joked with us in class & took time to talk with us after class. If he says read the book READ THE BOOK!!!
Professor Castro is very interesting. His lectures are very long and he is very opinionated. Some of his tests are hard. Some people can be offended by the things he says. he's funny. Class is interesting. Must go to class to pass. Gave bonus that can bring your grade up a whole letter grade.
Great teacher. Knows what he is talking about. But only 3 tests. And one of those is final. But does give extra credit for sociology club. And has 12 point grading scale. But changes. Ours was a 14 point grading scale (86-100 is A). Very passionate. Would take again
Great teacher. Knows what he is talking about. But only 3 tests. And one of those is final. But does give extra credit for sociology club. And has 12 point grading scale. But changes. Ours was a 14 point grading scale (86-100 is A). Very passionate. Would take again. SA
Prof. Castro is tough. His grades are determined by only three tests and the test questions are long winded and confusing to understand. You can only depend on his lectures and the textbook to study for his class. Despite this, Castro is a great teacher. He's funny and keeps the lectures interesting and makes a boring subject interesting.
I liked Castro but, he talked a lot about his life and went on and about his college life. He never made power-points, he wrote everything down on the board and you better learn how to write fast. His test aren't hard but, he isn't very clear with whats on it. I read a lot from both books and wrote and drew a lot of diagrams.
Castro is very passionate about sociology. Sometimes he gets very animated and it can get uncomfortable. It's hard to anticipate what will be on the test but he expands the grading scale and helps you succeed. He truly cares about students.
Smart guy, very opinionated, can turn into a firecracker at times. Tests are easy, he lets you know what he expects from the get go. Not many grades but bonus opportunities are available. Only class my eyes stayed open in.
Castro, is insane. His lectures are awesome, but he speaks fast. I expected to make a "B," and I calcualted I should have, but he gave me an A (Yeeaaaaaaaaas.) If you give a flip about showing up to class and you show that you studied, you'll do good. He will forever be one of my favorite Professors to have taken.
1010 would take again.
I LOVE HIS CLASS. I got an A. As long as you study the lectures, you will too. He is hilarious, but his humor can be offesensive if you are sensitive. I look forward to his class and it is at 8am. I would take him again in a heart beat and plan to for my future sociology classes. (I am getting a sociology minor)
He's really great! I'd take him again if I could. It's impossible to fall asleep in his class. His grading scale is wonderful too. TAKE HIM.
Gives bonus opportunities and has easy tests. If you pay attention in lecture and take good notes you'll pass. He's very hyperactive and gets into his teaching.
He loves what he teaches and it shows in every lecture. tests are moderate, but there aren't many so you must study consistantly. if you attend class and take good notes you should do well.
Only 3 test!!!!! If you don't take good notes or listen you won't pass!!!!
I am a straight A student, but I found his class very difficult. All notes are taken off of the board, and his handwriting was not very easy to decipher. There were only a few tests, so there was a LOT to study for each exam, and because of that I never knew what to study. I also found him disrespectful to various religions, and political parties.
Great teacher. Gives awesome real world facts and information we need to know for the real world. Test are easy, but we do take lots of notes so always go to class. Gets you real world ready
I loved this teacher! There was never a day in his class where I was not fascinated by what he was saying, but be prepared to take a multitude of notes. He only gave three test and no other grades. he gave no reviews for the test, but a large curve. My class had a 15 point grading scale. Love the teacher but hard class. He changed my outlook.
Good class, he keeps it 100. If you do something he doesn't like, he will point you you out. Other then that, he's a great teacher.
Castro is an awesome professor. His lectures are very interesting and engaging. Pay attention to the lectures and take good notes and you'll pass. Gives bonus opportunities. Tests are fair. Makes it clear on what he expects from you. I highly reccomend this class.
Professor Castro was a very entertaining teacher. I never felt sleepy even though it was an 8 am class. You have to be in class though. His lectures are written in class. No online notes or lectures. Only 3 tests so a lot of material to study. He grades on 15 point scale though so he gives you a break in a way.
Mr. Castro is very smart and hilarious. The only negative feedback I would give, is that he always tells a story about his personal life that is suppose to tie in with the lesson, but then we get off track and it makes me forget what we were talking about in the first place. Must take notes to pass. His lectures are short and lets you leave early.
A highly intelligent, passionate, hilarious man. His lectures are so interesting to me. He repeats every definition for your benefit. He gives big, broad examples, so if you don't pay attention you'll lose track. The tests are multiple choice and straight fwd. His grading scale is made to help you (12 pt) so if you fail his class, you wanted to!
I have mixed feelings on this class. There are only 3 tests, so you must pay attention and try your best. His grading scale is 12 point scale, so that is to your benefit. All notes are taken off board, and sometimes you can't read everything. Study and work hard.
Tests are sometimes tough but his lectures are amazing. Very interesting and you never get bored. Pay attention in class and you will do fine. He says things in class that are specifically on the test.
Attendance mandatory, doesn't post notes. Gives passionate lectures. Knows his stuff. Only has four test as far as grades, but does have bonuses for student participation in student events. Easy to speak with. Recommend recording lectures and looking on quizlet. Overly wordy vocab on test. Good grading scale.
This guy is a hoot but is an excellent Sociology 101 teacher. Show up to lectures and you will do fine.
Castro is really passionate about Sociology, but he sometimes taught his personal beliefs (religious and political) as fact, which is not right. If you can get past that, then you will probably be ok in this class. His lectures are interesting, and tests are not super hard if you study, attend class, and take notes.
Super fun professor. has a 12 point grading scale. pay attention in class and take notes and you will do fine. he is very entertaining so you never get bored in class.
He is very entertaining and very good at lecturing!!! You really need to study, but he is very informative and CURVES GRADES!!!!
tells good, funny stories that relate to course work, easy to pay attention because he keeps it interesting, very liberal, a lot of notes
Amazing professor! I took him during the summer and it was a very interesting lecture class. I was there for 3 hours Monday-Thursday and he made the time fly by. Be ready to take a lot of notes. I would take his class again in a heart beat. He is truly caring of his students even though he may seem not to be at first.
He tells many stories throughout his lectures to help you better understand the material, which are usually super funny!!! but the tests are hard because you have to STUDY everything he goes over and it's difficult to know exactly what to study for but he does curve every test grade!
Professor Castro is a great lecturer, and I enjoy going to his class. HOWEVER, his tests are insanely hard. I am a very dedicated student and usually my hard work pays off with good grades. Not in this class. Many people go to every class, read the book and study super hard using every resource available and still do poorly on the test.
His class only has 3 tests. He does not give out bonus opportunities, quizzes, homework etc. Your grade relies on those three exams. He does have a 12 point grading scale, but not for the heck of it.. its because his exams are HARD. He gives out loads of notes and his main focus is theorists. All I have to say is Good Luck if you take his class!
All in all, Professor Castro is engaging and makes material understandable! You will definitely learn something. He does teach his opinions on politics and religion, but other than that, he really does have your best interest in mind.
This dude is hilarious. I had him at 8am and he made my morning. His test are hard and come from the lectures. 12 point grade scale. Bonus parts are given for perfect attendance, and you really need to attend class to do well on test.
Great professor. There is only 3 tests. His lectures are interesting, and if you skip class, you won't pass. Definitely willing to answer students questions and is not trying to fail anyone.
In my opinion, I hated him. His tests are soo hard! He knows it too because he curves but it isn't that much. I would never take him again. He expects you to be a genius in this class which isn't the easiest. Try & take someone else!
I have so much respect for this man. He is very intelligent but explains material well. Speaks out on social injustices & inequality -- if this makes you uncomfortable, take someone else! There are 3 tests. Study hard & you'll pass! Gives extra credit & curves scores. His passion moved me to pursue sociology. I anticipate I'll pass with an A.
lectures about things not on the test sometimes (aka stories about his life), interesting and funny, all tests are cumulative, a lot of studying required to do well. good grading scale.
Wonderful teacher. Passionate about sociology. His lectures are packed with information so it is best not to skip any of his classes. I found him challenging and fair.
I loved Prof. Castro but his class is pretty difficult. Everything does come directly from lecture and books BUT the questions are worded a little tricky. He is hilarious and you will never be bored. I would take his class 1000x over even though I didn't make an A. His grading system is the best - you'll find out if you take him (& YOU SHOULD).
Castro is very energetic and his lectures are interesting and fun; you can never be bored in his class. His tests are tricky and not as easy as they seem. He has reading assignments on the syllabus but doesn't mention them; you should still read them because he references the textbook at lot on the tests.
Castro is energetic and engaging. His lectures are guided by notes which are displayed to the class. The criteria for grading is very clear as the majority of your grade comes from a handful of tests. While names and terms are important to remember the class is manageable and enjoyable.
Super funny and talks about very interesting stuff! But you better read the stuff he assigns! And you better know the theorists and what they believed! And his grading scale is awesome!
He is very honest. Test based on lecture.
Prof Castro is not as hard as some people say. Know the theorists for sure and make sure to read the assigned readings from the text and reader. He's definitely passionate and starts every class with inspirational music. He sometimes has incense burning. His tests can be tricky/wordy, but they aren't impossible. His grading scale is the best.
NICEST , EASIEST person i know .Show up to class and listen . Take good notes and if you ever need extra credit just ask he is willing to help those out who need help .
Amazing lecturer. Tests are not that hard, and come strait from the lecture. He can sometimes come off as rude, but he sincerely cares about his students. His grading scale is awesome. Take him!
He's very personable and his lectures tend to be really animated, you can tell he's passionate about what he believes in. Attend class and take good notes, you should be golden. Textbook isn't really needed - unless you skip, then I'd suggest cracking that baby open. His grading scale is dope as well.
Incredible, passionate lectures. The most memorable professor I've had at Southeastern so far.
He's very charismatic and gives great examples that make the material understandable. Make sure you take notes, though, and READ THE TEXT. His lectures are very passionate and a bit all over the place, hence the need for notes. He's super nice and wants everyone to succeed.
He's very wild but easy to keep up with as he speaks about his life with the involvement of sociology and was he has learned over time. I honestly love his teaching style.
Hes really worth the effort to get into his class.
This man is hilarious and one of the most inspiring teachers on campus! Be prepared to think and study hard, and have an open mind. His class is not for those who want an easy A. It requires work, but you will carry this class with you for the rest of your life.
Professor Castro is my favorite proffessor I've ever had. His lectures are so interesting and keep you engaged for the entire class period. His tests are hard but honestly he makes learning and remembering the material very easy. Plus his grading scale was awesome. If you're the type of person to skip class don't take him
He manages to make his 8 am lectures lively and energetic. He really knows what he's teaching and he makes class fun. His tests aren't as hard as you think, you just have to actually study.
Castro is very passionate about his lectures. Show up and pay attention and you'll be fine. His grading scale is very easy and he typically gives you your highest grade on an exam as the final grade.
Mr. Castro is extremely nice and keeps class interesting by sharing experiences that he has had. It's not one of those boring lecture classes it is more like, "take some good notes and have story time." He is very interactive with the class and is open to questions or comments. GO TO CLASS! KNOW THE FAMOUS SOCIOLOGISTS! KNOW TERMS AND DEFINITIONS!
Hilarious and keeps you intrigued. No study guides and only three test. Test are mainly on theorist and their theory. Gives bonus and curves grading scale. If you miss class youll probably fail
You won't regret taking him! He is so passionate in what he teaches and he truly wants his students to do well. He gives you a bonus opportunity for 4 points on your overall grade if you join his sociology club which meets only once a week for about 30 minutes at most. SO WORTH IT. He makes 8 ams interesting. Do NOT miss his class.
Love Mr. Castro! Hes very funny and will answer questions whenever needed !
He's very spontaneous and funny, and genuinely cares about his students. He strongly encourages participation in the community, as well as class attendance. He's the faculty head for the SSA, as well. Amazing person. He lectures very quickly, so typed notes and screenshots are recommended.
I was nervous about taking him because of the things I heard but I would definitely take him again, you only have 3 test and his lectures are funny if he sees you really are trying he will act like your first test did not exist and give you the good grade, his grading scale is amazing not the usual 10 point scale
I really enjoyed this class. It was very tough and you must start studying before the night of the test. He tells you you must teach others your notes to actually learn them and that it very true. He is so funny and the class is very interesting.
Hes super funny and gives entertaining lectures. Although, you have to be able to listen to lecture and take notes well. Notes are normally not given. Only grades in the class is four exams.
He was a very great professor. However, I don't understand his grading system. I should've made an A, though he gave me a B. Nonetheless, he makes class interesting and he really understands the topics he's lecturing. You have to take good notes and study well for his exams. Take him anyway.
Awesome professor, he made my earliest class my favorite class! His lectures were always entertaining & he made note-taking really easy - write everything from the powerpoint down! He has a 12 point grading scale which is awesome (100-88 is an A) and will give you the next letter grade if he knows that you worked really hard and didn't skip class.
Great professor, pay attention and notes will be fast sometimes, but will post his notes on Moodle. Very well spoken and out spoken, but puts a great neutral perspective on his lectures. Favorite teacher I have ever had, learn a lot even for everyday life.
There aren't many professors to choose from for this class, but Dr. Castro is definitely the best choice. Join his club and attend all extra credit opportunities and you'll do fine. I highly suggest recording his lectures while you follow along with the notes then rewriting them after class. Easy class if effort is put forth.
TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN I PROMISE YOU WONT REGRET IT HE CURVES TEST GRADES! He is VERY LENIENT & his grading scale is THE BOMBBBBBBBBBB
He is awesome! Makes coming to an 8am class worth it! He's superrrrr interesting and has many stories to tell which makes having him even better! Very laid back and just overall a cool dude! Def recommend!!
he cool people
He is seriously the best professor. I looked forward to this * am class so that says A LOT! I would advise you to always go to class because his lectures and so in depth that it helps you on the test. He's just a great guy. His test are HARD but he works with you and will help you if he sees improvement. Take him!
This the best class and teacher I have ever taken in college. He makes things intriguing and interesting. Castro is very lively and entertaining teacher. His grading scale is very unique because you can anywhere in the 60 range and finesse a B. It comes in handy because his test are so difficult and sometimes students do not know what to expect.
Made a 54 on the first test and a 64 on the second test. I don't know what I made on the final but I ended with a B! There are bonus opportunities so take them! Castro has fantastic lectures and makes going to class worth it. Definitely take him. Also, sit on the first couple rows so he may recognize familiar faces.
Castro was an amazing professor. Super funny and will keep you laughing. Grading scale is awesome. If you make lower grades on test it is still possible to make a good grade in class . I made a c and f on the two test we had and still got a b in the class . I would definitely take him again.
He is a great professor but very political so beware
Mr. Castro is the best! Take him !!!! His lectures are amazing, hes super funny. He doesnt make you dread going to class and makes a boring topic entertaining. He gives bonus opportunities. The tests are a little hard, but it is still possible to pass with a high grade. Grading scale is great. Do not skip class!! His notes are an outline.
Good professor. Great grading scale. With all that being said he was little too politically biased for my liking.
He tells some interesting stories about his personal life that relate to the material. His tests arent too hard if you go to every class and take good notes. Made Bs and As on his exams.
I can't imagine taking anyone else for Sociology. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He does get political sometimes but I didn't let it bother me and still really enjoyed his class! You have to take really good notes and be in class every day. It is EXTREMELY helpful to record his lecture and go back and edit your notes.
So i loved this guy. Funny lectures, hard test. Lots of material. If you don't go to class you defiantly wont get a good grade. I went to every class and there are so many notes you have to take. He also speaks FAST.
This class ripped my soul out of my body. Dont take him unless you want to hate yourself. He has a 12pt grading scale and I still couldnt pass. Good luck.
I loved Professor Castro. He offers some extra credit but very little, the test are your grades. He makes a lecture class very easy to understand and gives plenty of examples making it very easy to learn and understand his material. You do have to apply what you know and study for his test, I would take good notes. If you do that its a great class.
Terrible teacher. Only one test every month and a half. On 30 pages of notes. Wouldnt even let me make up test with dr excuse. Terrible teacher. DO NOT TAKE.
Your exams are the only grades in class. First exam after drop date. His whole class is a lecture but as long as you show your face and take notes on what hes saying youll get an easy A!
Castro gives a lot of material every class and explains thoroughly and gives good examples. He is very passionate about sociology. His exams, however, are very hard. I have made B's only because of his 12-pt grading scale. My lowest grades are in this class even though it is the most time consuming. A LOT of material needs to be drilled for exam.
NOTHING BUT A LECTURE COURSE. He is genuinely nice guy but he has 4 exams with so much material to remember for each of them. He offers extra credit which is nice and bumps up your grade if he notices you putting in effort and going to every class
He is really great, just make sure to pay attention and STUDY
Strictly a lecture class. His lectures are pretty interesting so its not hard to pay attention. Do not skip class because he moves fast. There are 4 tests and he does have one extra credit assignment. He has a 12 point grading scale and willing to help people that he sees putting in effort.
Test are very hard and detail oriented. He never posts grades, so youre left in the dark the entire semester. Would NOT recommend unless youre a genius.
Castro really knows his stuff and expects you to know a lot of detailed info. His tests are pretty tricky, mostly because of odd wording but its still possible to get an A on them. Study all lecture notes and do not bother reading the chapter. Even though this class was harder than expected, Castro was a really good professor and I recommend him.
I passed Castro with a 94. I attended each class and went to one extra credit opportunity. His lectures are fascinating but you need to know concepts.I would recommend recording each lecture and after each class rewrite every note into flashcard format while listening the recording. That way you can hear his reiterations and examples.
Okay Ill be honest- I wrote a bad review for this class a daw days ago. Since then my thoughts on professor Castro have completely changed. Overall, the class is fairly challenging, but at the end of the semester, Castro makes a huge effort to give students the grades they deserve. Show up for class and study for tests and youll be fine!
If you're good at taking notes, take Castro. Write down everything he says in class (including the examples, which help a lot); i would recommend typing notes instead of writing them. If you bomb your first test but improve on the next ones, he will disregard your first test grade when deciding what final grades will be. Don't skip class!!!
Prof Castro is HILARIOUS! He makes every class entertaining and interesting. Although he posts lecture outlines on Moodle, he gives the majority of info for tests in class so you really have to go. He curves every test so its hard to fail his class. He does say some things that could offend people but if you have a good sense of humor he's the best
Castro is extremely lecture-heavy. His tests are definitely something to get used to. BUT if you do really bad on the first test and really great on the last two he'll drop the first test like it never happened. Don't sweat the first test too much. Write down everything he says, it's the best way to study.
STUDY STUDY FOR THIS CLASS!!! He is super funny, but his lectures are very heavy and quick. There are only 4 tests, 50 multiple choice and somtimes he will add true or false. Do not cheat bc you will fail. His grading scale is cool. the lowest A you need to make is an 85.
I loved having him!! He was such an inspiration, and he really knows what he's talking about. He has a great personality. Make sure you show up to class, take notes, and STUDY! His only grades in the class are tests, and they're pretty hard.
He only gives 4 test throughout the entire semester and as long as you pay attention in class you will do FINE. Plus, he gave everyone an A- on the third test so no one had to take, and he grades on a 15 point grading scale. He's funny and he makes it interesting. Do NOT listen to bad ratings because they probably didn't go to class and failed.
Amazing lectures, always very interesting and learned a lot. Make sure you record his lectures and take good notes.
My favorite professor
Pros: makes an otherwise boring class fun, passionate. In the time before lectures he plays YouTube videos of various things, breaking the monotony. Cons: very opinionated , only 4 test, on tests he makes simple concepts complex, tries to trick you, says inappropriate things. If you want an easy A , this isnt the class.
Mr. Castro is funny, but I feel like he makes the class so much harder than it needs to be. It is a lot of material to study for each test, and he is always trying to trick us about what is and what is not on the tests! Be ready to work for it.
Very interesting during lectures. A genuine man. Easy to get along with
He is very funny and his lectures are very interesting. You talk about sensitive social topics and he tells it like it is, so if you have a problem with that you are NOT going to like this class. He posts all the notes, but they're just outlines so go to class to get the full explanation.
Castro's class is the most boring class I've ever had to take. His lectures are long and boring. The notes he teaches from are linked to his moodle, but are so confusing to understand. He only has 4 tests and they are worded really weird and are meant to confuse you. No homework or bonus to cushion your grade. If you need an A, don't take him.
This was definitely not an easy A BUT he made his lectures interesting! hes very blunt with what he has to say, so if you get offended easily, stay away. offered 1 bonus assignment. COME TO CLASS. YOULL BE CONFUSED OTHERWISE.. notes posted on moodle are merely outlines & not actual notes.. super funny & tests are.. something to study 4! :/
I really enjoyed taking Castro! His lectures are amazing and he gives a lot of examples that help you understand the concepts. His tests are very challenging and this course requires STUDYING. I would not say it was an "easy A" but nonetheless I would still take Castro again as I was never bored in class.
Lectures are detailed and he genuinely tried to make each of them entertaining and fun. Test also are not horrible, if you attend class youll do fine!
Loved him and found his class intriguing and straightforward, but I am a diligent student. If you do not study, you will not pass. His tests are very hard, so he has a more lenient grading scale. But you have to show up and make an effort to do well. Tests are the only grades
You have to study for this class to get an A, but because of his easy grading scale the class is a little easier. There is a lot of content. He uses personal stories as examples which helps you remember the content. I have an 86 right now and at the moment a 84 is the lowest A. Showing up for lecture is crucial and there are only 4 tests.
Castro is an intelligent professor, and knows what he is talking about during lecture. His class is very lecture heavy, so showing up for class is a must. His class consists of only 4 test which are super hard. You have to study for his class. He know his tests are hard so he gives a 12 point grading scale. I had a 83.50 in the class and got an A.
This man is wild but will keep you entertained. Show up to class! I can not stress this enough. Tests are extremely difficult if you dont attend class. Read the textbooks too. But if you do what youre supposed to do, you will pass!
most difficult class I have ever taken, because I took Castro. It isnt impossible to pass but you need to have many hours on your hands to just study for this class alone to do decent.
Incredibly difficult class
The biggest downside to this professor is he ONLY puts in test grades so if you do poorly on one you will have a hard time bringing up your grade. He does not allow the whole class period for test, they are timed at 45 minutes which makes it hard to complete. He is very funny and energetic early in the morning but never answers emails or questions.
Awesome teacher. Hes really hard to keep up with at times but if you study youll do good in the class!
Exams were EXTREMELY difficult, so make sure you study all lectures and PAY ATTENTION because the littlest detail(s) might be on the exam. Honestly, did not like this man. He has a great personality, but he just does too much extra stuff. If you take him, GOOD LUCK!!
It is evident that Mr. Castro loves the subject he teaches. However, for an INTRODUCTORY sociology course, it was one of the hardest classes Ive ever taken. You can read all you want, study the notes all you want, but his test are purposefully made to confuse you. If you take the course online, you have 60 minutes to complete a 56 question final.
Just don't take him. Test are extremely hard. Lectures every day. Unprofessional. Only had like 3 grades this semester for him... Notes he gives does not make sense. The test look nothing like the notes. Would not ever recommend this class.
This professor is of supreme character as a person, but his test will scramble your brain. He is genuine, entertaining, and caring, but you will work for an A. I recommend recording lectures and analyzing them. You will need to think outside the box. Knowing the answers requires in-depth understanding. It helps to research each topic independently.
He is a FANTASTIC professor. He is very passionate about his class and what he is teaching, and it makes it more enjoyable to learn. The tests are pretty difficult, but he has a 12 point grading scale. Read your textbook, but be sure to attend the lectures because that is key for doing well on the tests. He is very understanding.
I took his class over the summer of 2020 and he was super helpful. His syllabus was very easy to understand and straight to it. The test were pretty difficult but I would end up with a B on one test and Cs on the other but still got an A overall. 10/10 would recommend for summer course!!!
He gives a lot of info in his lectures but he's very interesting to listen to. He is very outspoken about his political views, though, which is off-putting at times. But he's lenient with grades; he offers extra credit and uses a 12-point grading scale. Exams aren't too hard if you STUDY. He wants to you to pass and will bump up grades at the end.
take very thorough notes & try not to skip class. hes fun & keeps lectures interesting. your grade is based on 3 tests. they are very detail oriented. i recorded & relistened to all lectures & took better notes before each test and did fine. you just have to work for it. hes fair & will move tests around as needed. lectures are the only notes tho
The class is only graded on 3 tests and a final but offers bonus points. He is very funny and makes the class interesting. It will be in your best interest to record the lectures. I will definitely be taking him again! I love this class and him. He's an amazing guy. He has been all over the world and really knows his facts about sociology.
personally, i enjoyed his class. he made you go both days, nothing online except the test.
His lectures are great! He clearly knows what he's talking about and is very passionate about it. His tests are very specific. He often asks about things he mentioned once in class. Study hard and you have a shot. You get two tests and a final, don't mess up!
Acts like he cares but really pushes an agenda the whole time very difficult to take if you have any opinions that vary from his. Not open to discuss ideas, just absolutely set in his ways. Be prepared to rip your hair out during classes
He is absolutely hilarious and his lectures are amazing. I thought about taking another class of his just because. His tests are hard and if you dont go to class you will not pass them. He does state his opinions but in a respectful way. there are only 3 tests but he will curve them or add bonus.
Took 3 tests online, other than that the class was in person 2x a week. Showed up to every class except for one and he gave me an A, instead of the B I earned lol. He's opinionated and lecture heavy but a good professor. Lectures don't always line up with the test material but easy overall.
Easy if you come to class. His notes on moodle are basically an outline of what he lecture in class. If you do no come to class and take notes you will not do well on the tests. The tests are online so if you have your class notes you will be fine. I do not see how you can pass without taking notes in class. He gives you what to write down in class
I adore Mr. Castro. His lectures are entertaining & make you look forward to coming to his class. He cares about your grades & is easy to talk to. With that being said, its very important to go to class if you want a passing grade. His tests are very difficult & detail oriented (& theres only 3 of them). Overall, 1 of my favorite classes & profs.
miss a class? good luck He gives lots of examples and situations on the topics he's teaching but test is very definition based.
I would not take his online class. The only assignments are the exams so there arent many opportunities for points. If you do bad on one it will be hard to bring up. No homework or bonus. Also, in the middle of the semester he formatted the test different with vague instructions and little time. All the questions were responses in great detail.
he is a funny guy with crazy stories. The class is easy and his test are always online. As long as you take the notes, you're good.
He is really lecture heavy and can go a bit fast but he is true to his word and is really fair with end of term grades
Professor Castro is great. His classes were always enjoyable and he has many stories to tell. He is passionate about his field and you can see that in his lectures. A lot of information is covered quickly so notetaking is a must. We had 3 exams that were very stressful and difficult (50q in 50min), and no extra credit. Curves grades at the end.
Great teacher, clearly loves what he does and is very friendly. I enjoyed learning and looked forward to his classes to learn more about sociology! While the class can be hard you just need to study and use the textbook for more detail.
I would not recommend taking his online classes. Only grades are exams and modules that aren't due til the final. Very responsive but not many opportunities for credit and if you get a bad grade on the exams it takes forever to bring up.
horrible for online classes, gives study material and lectures then quizes and test are nothing like the study guides.
Professor Castro was an alright professor. Definitely pushes his agenda and makes you feel bad if you don't agree with him. Only 3 tests and he doesn't give you enough time... 55q 50m
absolutely terrible. DO NOT TAKE. Very political
He is really nice and very friendly person. I would not recommend taking this class though because there are 3 exams and no other work. Most of the questions on the exam were not about what he would mention in class. You can record his lectures though.
I'm passing Castro's class pretty easily, but you HAVE to attend class. It's impossible to pass if you don't, his lectures are basically the notes. My best advice is to record all of his lectures. If you can't attend class one day have someone else record for you. I relistened to them before the exams, and it wasn't bad!!
He is funny and wants you to understand what Sociology is, but he has already expressed what his political stance is. Not a problem in my opinion, but he does want you to conform to his ideals. His three tests are easy as long as you ready from the chapters as well take his notes. They're all at home, with no webcam. Good luck!
He is very difficult. It is very hard to pass his class with an A. You have to make sure you pay attention to everything he says and make sure to record his lectures because the test are based on things he says more than the notes.
Castro has outlines for lectures, but his tests are built on what he says in class. He says you need to read the book but I never did and I passed easily. Tests are taken at home with no locked browser or anything. He talks super fast so record lectures in case you miss anything said. Definitely go to class and take good notes and you'll be good.
Truly enjoyed Professor Castro's class. He writes his own test so listen closely to how he words things because they will likely be very close to the test. Recording the lectures was the best decision I made while taking this class, he speaks very fast so being able to go back and listen is helpful. Very lively lectures and will miss his class.
Amazing lectures! He cares about what he teaches and he made sociology my favorite subject to learn about! Very interesting course and he is willing to give you a good grade if you show him that you are trying! Amazing professor!
This course was truly an enlightening experience. He speaks quickly, so recording lectures is a good idea. He writes his own tests EXACTLY how he talks, so write down every word. Most exam content is lecture-based, not much from textbooks. 3 exams you take online. Not easy, but not crazy hard. This class was very enjoyable and worth every minute.
We took four tests overall. Go to class, take notes, study and you will do fine.
Great professor. There isn't any extra work to bring grade up if you fail tests. 3 tests the whole semester and that includes final. Tests are pretty hard if there is no studying or reviewing lectures.
Castro does a lot of his own talking in class. Take notes on every little thing he says and include whats on the powerpoint. Tests and final are all online and out of class. His tests are very hard and are applied knowledge. Expect a lot of questions about who did what. His tests are 50 minutes and 50 questions so if you dont know the material...
I loved this class, wish I could take it again. Castro was one of the best professors in terms of lecture, they were engaging and interesting. I'm not a sociology major but I considered it after this class. Take extensive notes on his words and the board. Some people record his lectures (which he encourages). Tests are hard if you aren't prepared.
His class is a little harder than others. Being there is mandatory. If you miss lectures, it is very likely you will struggle on your exams. His exams are based off what he says to so you have to take good notes.
His tests are not based on the lectures. The tests are super confusing and the wording is hard to understand. There were only 3 tests, for my class two of the tests were online. Other than that, just go to his class and you will most likely pass.
He only has 3 exams. Nothing else. If you dont study for the exams you will not pass his class. There 50 questions each and they are online. He does care about his students and curves his test since he knows that his exams are hard.
All he did was talk it was super boring. What he said was on the test but he was super boring.
Lectures are very boring, a lot of personal talk and he voices his political opinions a lot. All tests are online (3) including the final. (Not proctored)
Should not be teaching and introductory course at all. He only puts three grades in for the whole semester and changed his grading scale to a 12 point because his class is so hard. He brags in his syllabus and throughout the year about how only a hand full of students make an A a semester. His tests also ask obscure questions that are hard to find.
This professor is the most horrible man I have ever met. I studied my butt off for his final; re-listening to lectures, gibing over notes, etc and still barely made a B. He pushes his believes onto his students and is very rude. He gave three tests this whole semester and no extra credit. DO NOT TAKE RUSSELL CASTRO!!!!!!!!
I love Prof Castro so much! His lectures are hilarious even though a lot of people don't appreciate that. He dropped our first exam, curved to help out, and truly cared about sociology. He puts up a scary front but he's really just the sweetest hippie guy
Castro puts notes up on the board but says something completely different. he bragged on the first day how his class was so hard and rarely anyone passes with an A. your grade depends on 3 tests including the final. so if you aren't a person who can sit there and type while he talks and goes off subject, DO NOT take Castro.
Professor Castro seems like a great guy when speaking to him one on one & it appeared that he cared about his students. However, as an introductory class, he made it far too difficult to understand. He often went off on tangents about things that didn't pertain to the lesson and seemingly bragged about how it's impossible to get an A in his class.
He is a funny man, but his tests are HARD. He gives you like 45 minutes to complete 55 questions, and they are worded VERY difficult. Its almost impossible to bring a bad grad up in his class because his only grades are 3 exams. He also grades very hard. He talks super fast in his lectures and goes off topic SUPER easily.
very lecture heavy but class is balanced with important lecture and general discussion so it doesn't feel overwhelming. Teacher knows the information well. test are all multiple choice and online, some tricky questions. offered many opportunities for bonus points and grading scale is generous.
Professor Castro is extremely smart, and if you pay attention and attend every class you will learn a ton about sociology and its roots.
He does not give any outline or anything to go off of so attendance is important for lecture material, and only 3 exams the entire semester for your grade.
He is very sweet and an interesting person, however, when it comes to the class you MUST attend and take your own notes. He only gives 3 grades the entire semester, Exam 1, midterm, and final. You must study and he words things in his own way so don't short cut the words when taking notes
This course has no structure what so ever. Castro brags about how no one gets an A like it's an achievement of his. Because no one cares about sociology, he has to make it difficult for everyone because he's mad about it. He's also a raging liberal who pushes his agendas onto his students. Just don't take this class and especially this guy.
One of the worst professors. He acts like sociology is the only course his students are taking and expects them to spend hours everyday devoted to sociology. You never know if your exams are in person or online, his lectures are so boring, and he forces his political opinions on you. He also brags about the fact no one ever makes an A in his class.
While Professor Castro is an engaging personality, his teaching style can be challenging. Attendance is a must, but lectures often veer off-topic. Exams are tricky, but using unstuckstudy AI and the free textbook can really help with preparation.
tests have nothing to do with notes really and he lectures too much
The only grades that you will get in this class is 3 test grades. Thats it... He is 100% lecture from the notes that are sent to you, so technically attendance isn't mandatory; however, he will complain and claim that "the only way these students, who don't attend class, can get a decent grade in this class is if they cheat."
I have him this semester and I'll say that after midterms I still have a 90%. I would definitely take him again. I would recommend a tape recorder for his lectures. His tests can be online or in person. He is understanding, and he class is like a free period to do other work if you need to work on something. He covers the book that's given to you.
Mr. Castro was overall a not so good professor. His lectures were very repetitive, often inserting his personal beliefs and attempting to push his personal beliefs onto his students. He lectures all class and his test hardly have the information that is taught. Highly suggest reading the textbook if you want to pass his tests, the only grades u get
Mr. Castro is very funny and will share personal stories during his lectures. He only gives three grades for the semester which are the three tests. The tests are difficult and are worded kind of tricky. Two of the three exams were taken online. It is key to listen, go to every class, and write down almost everything he says.
I did not like this. it was all lectures that he didn't upload and he just rambled on about nothing important and expects you to remember everything.
I'm not quite sure I learned anything about sociology, most of his lectures consist of storytelling from his past. He only gives 3 tests the entire semester, test 1, 2, and the final. The first two were online. He's an entertaining guy but I'm not sure I would recommend him if you want to pass.
In the beginning, he was great. He began to have an attitude. we asked about test review he said "Your review is what you learn in class." There are only three grades the whole semester. ALL EXAMS in his own words and no extra credit. He quickly suspects cheating. His whole lecture is his life story. I don't recommend taking him.
3 grades all semester. No extra credit. very liberal and pushes his beliefs on students. his lectures consist of him telling his life story. I didn't learn much from this course.
Mr. Castro only gives three tests all semester. He is funny, but the class is tough and not worth it. He gets off-topic very easily and loves to talk about politics.
I would not take Mr. Castro. He is a nice man and an entertaining professor however his teaching style just did not work for me personally.
I do not recommend this professor. Very very political and rude. I still know nothing about sociology and he was not helpful when we had questions. Only 3 tests all semester and no other grades. Cusses a lot and is not respectful at all. Please save yourself the grief.
This man goes off topic a lot. You have to attend class in order to get the lecture notes. There are only 3 tests the entire semester with no extra grades to help if needed. However, he does give some extra points if he sees that you are constantly attending class. Honestly, he's not the worst, but you need to go to class and study to pass.
Castro was an entertaining professor but tended to ramble for half of the lecture about irrelevant things. He was also VERY vocal about his political stance, which is fine for me, but going on a thirty-minute rant about the election was uncalled for. To pass, you do need to show up to every class, seeing as lecture-based exams.
Great Professor... makes class less boring, and the work is not hard if you follow the directions that he gives.
Super arrogant. Brags about how no one will make an A (which says a lot about a professor). Doesn't use power points or study guides. He rambles on and off topic for entire time and talks fast, so you better write fast. Very political and talks down on people who don't agree with him. Your grade is based on his 3 exams.
If you have a learning disability do NOT take his class! I had trouble understanding a task that was given to me. I asked for help and instead of being patient he got frustrated and embarrassed me in front of the whole class. The class was laughing at me and he continued making jokes and ridiculing me despite having tears running down my cheeks.
Professor Castro was a great professor in my opinion. I would say to record his lectures while taking notes in class, then re-listen to the recording and fill in notes as needed. He does go off topic so it can be easy to loose focus on the material while in class. ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT!! He will let it be known if you don't show up. Very nice.
He is a decent teacher, he is just very rude sometimes. The only grades that go in are three exams. The first two were online and the final was in person. I would recommend him because I ended with an A, but you will likely get fed up with him because he rambles a lot. Show up to class and sit in the front because he loves students that show effort.
This class has 2 tests that are Online and the final which is in person. There are no other in between assignments so doing good on the tests is important. The lectures are decent for the most part, but he does tell a lot of the same stories over and over again. He usually takes attendance at the beginning of every class so showing up is important.
Professor Castro was my favorite! His lectures were very interesting, he has a lot of fun stories to tell that are very helpful when referring back to concepts because they become great examples. He does not give out homework or any assignments, so be sure to study for the tests because that is where your grade will come from. Overall great course!
Terrible!!! Only 3 tests and no assignments for grade support. Takes point off tests if you miss class. DONT TAKE HIM!!! class average on a test was 39%
I love Castro! There are many that do not, though. Taking notes and NEVER missing a class is so very important. He only has 3 exams and they can be difficult. If you show up, sit in the front, and pay attention, HE WILL NOTICE. That can get you extra help that others who do NOT show up WON'T get. Also, he only lectures, write everything down!
Yall I took him fall 24' he literally only put 3 grades in the whole semester and it was the exams/final
Honestly, he's tough. Attendance is not mandatory BUT, show up to class! Your attendance and participation reflects how he rounds/determines your final grade. Very lecture heavy so take good notes! Tests aren't bad if you take notes and listen to his stories. He's a pretty funny guy too so lectures are interesting!
Took Prof Castro for Sociology 101, he did not talk about anything related to the class in the majority of his lectures. He went on tangents about politics or religion. He gave reasons in class why not to believe in God, this was hard to hear as a religious student. During attendance he skips names and large groups of students tell him after class.
He basically talked about politics the whole time and how we should not call girls she and boys he. The most terrible professor ever. Do not waste your time in this class. If you fail one test there is no hope of bringing that grade up at all.
He only has 3 cumulative exams for the entire grade book. He mentioned that if you show up to class, he will work with your grade. Lots and lots of studying to get the grade you want. Record lectures. Pay attention to his stories because he will ask similar questions on the exam that relate to them. Overall, I give his class a 4/10.
Was very off topic in lectures and skips over everyone's names during role. Tests are very difficult. If you take Prof Castro be prepared to do all research for tests outside of class as his lectures do not help.
We were graded on very few things and there's no way to know what will be on the tests.
do not take
Professor Castro has to have one of the best lectures on campus. He gives 3 test (in my class allowed for 1 to be dropped) and is lecture heavy, so you have to go to class everyday! If you find yourself in his class then my best advice to you is to cross reference the lectures with the book. Class is incredibly hard, but possible!
The class is difficult but he will see if you attend class everyday he will help you out a bit because sees you care. his test are really hard, there are three and one gets dropped. his grading scale is veryyy different and makes getting a good grade easier. he goes off topic a lot. I recommend reading the text books it does help a lot.
Only grades test, and yaps about anything but what's on the test in his lectures. Not a bad guy just a difficult professor
Only graded exams so if you don't do well on those then you'll have a bad grade and exams are based off of his lectures which you are fully responsible for showing up to and taking notes on. The subject was interesting, and he was entertaining but the tough grading got to me. If you keep up with attendance and are a good notetaker you will do fine.
Russel Castro is not a good professor at all. He is vulgar to students, constantly skips over names in lectures, and is flat-out a bad person. His exams are hard. On top of that, he starts every lecture with some stupid recording of "Never let anyone doubt your ability to demonstrate truth. (It's engraved in my mind now.)
Mr. Castro spends his lectures talking about his life experiences, and you might wonder why, but his stories tie back to the lessons surprisingly. Sit in the front of the class and record his lectures, and you'll do just as well as I did! Only 3 grades the whole semester so you have to lock in for the exams :( ATTENDANCE MATTERS!!!
good luck. only 3 exams for the entire semester.
I loved this professor. His class was very lecture heavy but his notes that he reads off are usually posted online. That being said, he does give extra information or specific definitions every class that aren't available online so being there matters. There are only 3 grades (all exams) so be prepared to study. Try and you'll pass, it can be done.
Not many people are fans of Castro but in honesty his class isn't that terrible. Yes he rants most of it but the people who don't do too good on the test are people who don't have motivation to study. I reviewed the notes before test and did just fine!
Good luck. Id rather be in Nazi germany as a jew then sit through 5 minutes on his lecture
I was terrified to take this class because of all the horrible reviews i heard, but honestly it was not difficult at all. I barely had to study i just had to attend every class. Theres only 3 tests but he curved one, dropped one, and gave lots of bonus to those who went to every class. I have a 75 but since i attended every class i ended with an A
Very Caring And Funny Professor, Lectures Are Extremely Boring And What Feels Like Very Long But If You Write Down What He Say, Sit In The Front/Make Your Self Rememberable, Attend Class & Know Anything About Colorado You're In Good Standing! 3 Exams Total.
