he only uses slides from the book to teach
he goes through his power point lectures WAY too fast, doesn't give extra credit (besides 1 bonus pt that's easy to lose), and he goes by the dumb book, which is unhelpful & boring. TAKE BOTT!
Ok, no one is about to call this guy mean- infact, he's pretty nice- tests are not that hard. His power point lectures might actually be helpful if we had a half way decent book.
You take three 20 quest tests = 60pts. one 34 quest. final = 34pts. 6 pts homework. This means if you blow one of your tests, you are DOOMED.
Hes been teaching for a very long time so when he makes explinations he can be difficut to understand. If you want chem taught to be easy to understand-Take Simon Bott.
Very Hard and Unclear. Unhelpful
Actually, he understands the material, but he cannot explain very well, so many students do not get it.
If you take Geanangel you are DOOMED. He mumbles and reads straight from the book. There is no teaching involved. He just simply puts up slides (which are pages of the book), reads them VERY quickly and does it the entire semester. But, he is a nice guy.
He is very hard to understand, take Bott or Karabunaliev.
Lame slide shows...
He's not all that bad. Students just have to read ahead of the class to understand him. even though he does seem harder than Bott you get a lot more information out of him. he goes really indepth on the materials. Plus he answers your question right away.
If you can take Professor Bott instead of Geanangle, do it. If not, read ahead of this guy. It also helps to do the problems in the book.
his tests are extremely hard, be prepared for trick questions. he'll ask questions on exceptions to rules. he's very boring so drink coffee before going please.
i thought he was really easy. Although he can be boring, he is very helpful. you dont have to read the book. just study the powerpoint notes, study the examples from the powerpoint and the homework. the prob on test r exactly as those in hw n notes.
Okay, so yeah he uses powerpoints as his lectures and yeah he might be slightly boring at times, but he is VERY HELPFUL when you need it..if you just ask him. It's the material that might be a little tricky.
I think he's pretty cool. Nice guy, and is helpful, answers all questions and is very patient with them. Maybe he's slightly boring, but he's an older gentleman, and it's school people. Duh.
Dr. Geanangel is very nice old man. If you just read before class the info he covers will make sense to you. He is always willing to help. He is boring sometimes and is not as fun as Bott but he is still a good proffessor. Quit whining all you lazy asses about this class being so hard. It isn't
I like his teaching strategy. If you pay attention to his lectures you are bound to learn something. I'm sorry to say that he is boring so dont expect much. I like how he uses powerpoint bc the slides are in order just like the book.
Geanangel is a good prof even though he teaches off the PPT. His help in solving problems and his explanations made it easier for me to understand what I was doing on the homework problems. He doesn't give reviews for tests. But he makes the first test...find a study group or partner!
Whoa, boring as h---. It's hard to stay awake
I just hated his class. He is boring and teachs directly from the powerpoint. He will ask the class questions but because students print off his notes they just read the answers off without understanding it. Bott is much better.
horrible. He makes it so you have enough resouces but that is not enough. He is very very boring, and there are questions on his test that you never saw before, and stuff that he doesnt go over in class.
alright professor, but if you have no background in chemistry he might be hard to understand. he really tries to help you if you ask question during the class and during his office hours.
Do not take this teacher, you will fail miserable. His lecture is like, wah? Can you repeat that? Read off the notes he give you, and test is hard. You really shouldnt pick this teacher. Go to Hcc , its very easier and alot cheaper. His class is a waste of time and money.
Nice but boring.you really have to fight yourself to pay attention during class, but if you do, you will make good grades.I made a B+ in his class.best thing to do,inorder to prepare for the test is by really memorizing his notes.his notes are great.they are a short version of the book.also read boo
this guy needs to retire, seriously...all he does in lectures is read of powerpoint slides, if u take his class be sure to load up on caffiene. I stopped going to his lectures half way through and made a B+ just by reading the book.
He is a very monotone and not interesting teacher. All he does is read off powerpoint slides. If I were you, I would make sure I go to tutoring. Except for the first day of class and test days, less than 100 ppl attend this 400 ppl class. You better be good at teaching yourself or you will barely pass. If i were you, take Bott he is much better.
Awful!! Reads power point notes to the class and attendance is mandatory! Does not do a good job of explaining concepts.
This teacher is the devil in chemistry. He'll murder u and then get to work on u. If u are a human being with perfecly normal brain then i ask u never, I mean "never" take his class or u waste ur money on him

I don't think he is that bad. As long as you read the book and take the practice tests you will do fine
Excellent prof! i took his class, and i went to botts lectures a few times. Bott sucks. Hes too freakin british. Geanangel is really nice, and he prepares you for the tests much better than bott does. Hes not that boring, actually kinda interesting - unless youre the entertain-me-now idiot airhead type.
r.n.b. too
booooooo what is the deal with powerpoint. maaann, do you wanna teach ?

if you take geanangel, you really should be good at teaching yourself the concepts from the book. the tests are easy to pass if you do all the exercise problems at the end of each chapter.
He's very smart but it does not mean he knows how to teach.
Brilliant man and really nice too...not too great of a prof thought. Class notes are all in powerpoint. Might want to go to Botts lectures since hes the one that writes up the tests.
He knows what he is doing. You get more knowledge that with Bott. Very fair.
Approachable man. Not a good prof. Went to Bott's lectures instead and he explains things wonderfully. Geanangel only checked attendance twice the entire semester. WbCT is unfair on exams.
I found him to be a great professor unlike most comments. He is really good at teaching chemistry.Very specific when it comes to answering questions. He is also very helpful during office hours. As far as tests are concerned, they are on WebCT so it really depends upon the student how well he/she does does on the practice tests. Overall, Excellent!
I think he knows what he is doing, but I don't think he knows how to teach. If anything, take Bott. Went to his lectures, and Bott was awesome. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about this prof. He just wasn't my style. He makes powerpoints with the same material as the book. I went to class to see what I saw at home. POINTLESS!
He really wants the student to learn, but he just not a good teacher. I would not recomend him if you can help it.
very hard to stay awake in his class because hes very boring to listen to. Poor teaching style in my opinion because I didnt learn anything during lecture and I attended them all. Im making my A because someone else that knows chemistry already is teaching me outside of class. The willingness to help is there but his lectures left me thinking th
Excellent proffesor, if you have any question he will help you. All you have to do to pass his class is fully understand the homework. if you can pass most of his homeworks with a 12/12 you will do fine. also do the practice tests, attend class, print and take notes. I dont understand why people fail his class!!
try to avoid him at any cost. i took him in spring 2006, his tests average was really low. his questions are easy but they are so tricky that you don't have time to solve those problems.
Horrible lectures. You will either fall asleep or be completely lost half the time. Absolutely no help. Lectures are worthless. Made me hate chemistry. AVOID THIS MAN.
Nice guy, just monotonously boring and can't teach. Grading scale is curved to help you out because people do so poorly on his tests. My advice is if you take him, be prepared to teach yourself!
he is a great prof..
Complete garbage.. I'm taking Bott, and he came and subbed for one day. About 1/3 of the class got up and left within half an hour. SO BORING. BOTT FOR THE WIN!!!
He is SO confusing in class, but if you go to his office hours it's like an entirely different man. By going to his office hours I learned a lot more than in class. I still prefer Bott though.
He is a good teacher and people keep whining about him. The reason they complain about him is because they don't study on there own and get help if they need help. My friends are like that. But if you get help, you'll pass his exam because it is liek the hw and practice test.
Umm...he's old, monotone and boring. He doesn't make Chemistry interesting at all. Most of the work problems he does in class are much easier than the ones on the homework and tests. Outside tutoring as well as printing out his power point notes before class are recommended.
He's very knowledgable, but doesn't do a good job explaining the material. He uses example problems straight from the book. There's really no point in going to class, since everything he says is in the book, but he counts attendance. I prefer Bott, but that's just me.
Prof. Geanangel is not as bad as they say. He does expain well and teach you the material. The only difference is that he doesn't do reviews or anything for the tests or the final. So you have to study by yourself or in a group. He gives an online quiz every week and a test every month. I had no problems wih them or him.
If you want to take this class think again. I took it and it was very miserable. I hoped to make an A in his class but did not, the lectures are boring and pointless. If you plan to make an A in his class make sure you have plenty of outside help.
he uses powerpoint in class.
He is a wonderful teacher. If you pay attention and do the work you should be fine. It is hard to get an A because of how the grades are weighted. If you get 100's on all the homework and get the one bonus point (not too difficult) then you can miss a total of 11 questions on all three exams and the final combined.
He was boring to listen to and monotone.
He is a very good teacher for me. If you are not good at taking note as me, you should attend to his class. You just do every things he says and practice all of the practice on his website, you will pass his class. I recommend this professor to you. He is far better than what everyone often complains about him.
very helpful!if you are looking for a class to slack off in this isn't for you, you need to study to do well. he records lectures and posts them online so if you missed something you can always go back. very clear, read the book ahead of time and class is like review.i dropped cause i didn't study enough on my own to get the grade i wanted.
this guy is awesome. Just attend class like yur suppose to and study. People don't study on their own thats why they do so bad, but just do what he says. Do the practice test several times as it will shadow his real test. very similar to each other. Homeworks are easy as well.
I loved Geanangel! If you can't pass this class it's cuz you didn't study and use the chem help desk-which is totally worth going to. The help desk was awesome! He is fun! Makes lots of cute jokes and make chem interesting. I had a friend who also loved Geanangel take Bott over the summer for Chem 2 and said Bott was totally a jerk.
He rocks-but definately use the Chem Help Desk.
old wicked teacher cant teach could barely hear words but always called ppl out for no reason
I think that he's very helpful. His lectures make it so that the text isn't even needed. He goes over what's needed for the test. His notes are sometimes taken from the test or practice test. He works out the problems rather than just going from slide to slide. Best yet is that he has two sections and you can go to either one.
i love prof. geanangel! one of my favorites at UH. uses movies, animations, etc. to help you understand concepts, he is available for help, and is ready to answer your questions via email, too! one of the few professors who really seems to care about his students.
Avoid at ALL COST. Bott is a much better teacher he actually teaches the class. On the other hand this guy just go by Slides that he just basically got from the textbook and just writes them out during lecture. What WASTE OF TIME. The problems in his slides he solves in class are the same problems that are already solved in the Textbook.
He's a pretty good professor... not the best, but good. He's willing to help during office hours, so take advantage of that. Go to class, though he records lectures sometimes they don't get posted or it takes forever. Also he takes random attendance, so it always helps to go to class.
He's pretty boring, but a good teacher. Everything is online, so you don't need to attend class... but he takes attendance. I rarely need to use the textbook if I just read his notes!
Pretty easy teacher...a little boring but if you just follow the notes then the exams are pretty easy...really sweet old man...Study the notes for the tests-its just like the notes
Geanangle is a pretty nice guy and is always willing to help you out. He is really old and boring in his lectures. Make sure you go to class and actually pay attention. This class is freakin hard, you really have to work for a good grade in here.
good teacher. really nice to students and rarely checks attendance. just study over notes and look through the book and you'll be fine
I like Geanangel. Hes very helpful and wants you to do well in his class. I was one question away from an A-, and got a B+ so the grade you get is the grade youre stuck with.
He's very nice and his notes were helpful. He records his lecture so if you miss a class, you can just find it online. The tests are like the homework. Study and you'll do good.
Geanangel is well intended. He's older so he will always say that his ways are the only ways but if you work hard in the class you'll do fine. Remember that you can only earn 100 points a semester, so don't mess up. Study and pay attention. Ask questions when you have them, he'll help.
Geanangel is a nice guy but he is a horrible professor. He does examples out of the book and runs through class. I met with him after class and although he saw me every time i asked, he always acted like he had to help students but really never wanted to. He is very boring.
Nice professor, but I felt that all he did in class was work out problems, and not really explain the subject. He would have "workshops" that showed examples of how to work the problems. I know that in this class that the student is responsible for reading and understanding the material, but the professor should cover some of the material in class.
Geanangel is a good professor, his lectures can be a bit dry, but he's obviously passionate about making sure his students understand what he's teaching. He goes over problems that are on the test, pay attention to the homework and do the practice tests. Not a class you can slack in.
Lectures are dull. Go to class!! He has random bonus/attendance quizzes. You def need to study!! Hes not the greatest teacher, but he's a sweet guy. Do the hw and practice tests for the exams. Very few extra credits, and he doesnt curve. If you know how to teach study, and teach yourself, youll do good. Study, study study!!
geanangel is a very sweet man. chem can be tough because of the subject and the grading system can be tough to beat. my advice keep up with the class, study with friends (that's what i did), do lots of practice problems (the homework and practice tests), go to the TA for help as much as possible. came out with an A-
Good Professor. The material itself is difficult. Reading the textbook and repeating homework assignments definitely helped me. Lectures seem boring but they help because he does his best to help you understand the important material and likes questions. Slight curve on overall grade. I got an A- which is 86-89 instead of 90-92 like most teachers.
Despite prof dropping half the class.. class started about 500 ending up with about 100 - I did decent on homeworks made b's on text but bombed final and was .30 points from C but he refused to give any more extra credit for me to get the extra .30 of a point
geanangel's definetly a nice guy just extrememly boring...go to class sit in the front and try to pay attention b/c he really does attempt to teach the problems, dont bother with the book too much just keep doing the hw problems and practice tests like a million times for tests...for the final try to concentrate on really getting the simpler proble
very nice guy, can be sometimes boring. his lectures are recorded so download them a watch them over again. I did that and read the book and studied his notes. he also hardly ever give out extra credit and the tests are 94% of your grade. So lots of students prefer Bott, who gives more extra credit opportunities
Super boring... makes a lot of people fall asleep and he doesnt really clarify everything.
Really boring lectures, posts them on UTunes & Youtube, nice guy though not a very good teacher.
His notes suck and his teaching sucks too. I went to Bott's class once and I learned more than i ever did with geanangel in an hour!I do not recommend him to anyone. But he is nice though..too bad he's not that great of a teacher.
he is not bad, in fact he is quite good.everyone says bott is way better, but i think otherwise because our class avg on each of the midterms was always higher than that of all other sections combined!he is really funny.kinda boring if you dont like chem otherwise not bad!take him if you want to pass,i made a B+ eventho i never studied the book!
he's not the greatest teacher, i have to admit, at times i gained more from reading else where during class time than actually going to class. but overall, he's not not as bad as people say. very nice guy.
very nice professor, extremely easy to ask questions too. His class is just on the boring side because most of the topics are straight out of the science books and not in language you can comprehend easily.
I really enjoyed chemisty, no i actually loved it but he made me hate coming to class! He reads directly from his powerpoint every class. His lectures are so boring and the worst thing i have to say is that he never does any kind of review before the test.. you always have to go to another professor for that. I dont recommend taking him!!!!
He seems like a nice guy, but he isnt willing to help. The extra credit is pointless in the end. He is so boring, so it makes hard to pay attention. His lectures are useless. Just study the book if you plan on taking him.
Great professor, he undoubtedly knows his chemistry. If you have not prior chemistry knowledge then the class may be a bit hard. He posts video lectures on itunes and youtube. I missed a bunch of lectures and pulled an A (98) in the class.
He tries to help u but most of the time he sends u to chemistry help desk. His lecture recordings help if u stop going to class. His tests are random mc draw and do ur hws and practice tests. Those are extremely helpful since some of them show up in tests. He has 3 tests, 1 final, and random attendance bonus.
He's a really nice old man, but he moves through the subjects EXTREMELY fast.if u can, wait to take Bott.he teaches chem 1 the first semester and chem 2 second semester.geanangel knows his stuff and he will help u if u go to him in person. he makes jokes but there is still no life in his class. don't have to attend class everything is online.use it
He seems like a nice guy but he's not a great teacher. He talks like everything is a review and it's expected that you've already done it before. He goes through material fast and very boring.
If you take this professor be prepared, he warns you on the first day of class that you should read the assigned pages PRIOR going to his class, he's not joking, if you don't you'll think he's going too fast. The first 4 chapters I was behind, I caught up for the next exam. You don't have to read BEFORE class but be sure to read it, take notes.
oh my..where to start.. When he lectured and someone asked if he could explain it or go back he would get angry and tell us that he is not going to go back just for a couple of people. Time was more important to him then making sure everyone understood. I went to class everyday and I still was clueless.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. Day one he told us that college is about giving you the tools to teach yourself. He means that. He is a terrible teacher. The homework was hard and if you fail three homework assignments he kicks you out the class. His lectures are boring and not easy to understand. Worst teacher ever.
I wish I would have waited to take Bott. Geanangel is horrible, he only teaches what's in the book, which is fine, if only it was the same thing on the tests and homework. The only thing that is good is that his grade scale is generous so that if you miss a lot on the tests you can still pass. He gives like 1 or 2 extra credit pts which don't help.
He is a good proffessor if you are willing to commit to the class. It is important to show up, pay attention, and take notes. Overall, he is VERY helpful during his office hours and during class. He even thanks students for asking questions. Anyone who fails this class has only him or herself to blame. Has recorded lectures in case you miss class.
I think Geanangel is a great professor. He does his best to make his teachings simple as they can. However, the online homework seem tough but I'm not sure if the university requires him to post online homework for students. But as far as I'm concerned, I think he is a great professor.
The online homework seems hard and ridiculous. I heard the department require him to post online assignments for students. But other than that such as his teachings, he is a great professor to learn from in Chemistry.
Good teacher. Lectures are boring. If you're willing to put up with the boring lectures, go for him. He's a good guy. He will help you if you have questions. Very useful during class and office hours. His tests are ok but he has a generous grading scale so its not that bad overall. I recommend taking him if you have the drive to do well. Good luck.
Face it, chemistry is hard. Do lots of problems from the book. Dr. G is very helpful if you come to him during office hours with some problems. His notes are nearly straight out of the book, but try to come to lectures, or else you might be dropped. If you don't understand something, get help from Chemistry tutoring.
He is very nice outside of class. I did not like his way of teaching. If you can teach yourself chemistry then take him!!
He is actually a good professor. Just as someone mentioned before, if you have a bad grade in class it is probably 'coz you didn't try enough. You need to try the quizzes several times. You will see similar questions on the test. The same goes for the practice tests. It helps a lot.
GREAT PROFESSOR!!! I think he's the only one who actually gives his students printable notes. If he's not making sense try asking questions during lectures, after lectures or going to Chem tutoring on the 2nd floor of the F building. He's a really sweet old guy. He ALWAYS tries to help, but if it still doesn't make sense GET MORE HELP! easy B hard
Love this class even though boring lectures, but you can watch em over and over at home which realy helps. Take him if you realy want to learn somthing. grades are fair. 75-80 is a B,thats whats i made without putting effort on it. poppers will give you extra credit and if you ask any question on blackboard he will definitely answer it. take him yo
Professor Geanangel is a nice guy and a wonderful teacher. He will help you any way possible. However, taking one of his chemistry classes is no guarantee for an A or even passing. You need to pay attention to all his lectures, read the textbook assigned, and do all homework and other assignments when he tells you.
He is a nice professor. You must do your HWK. Attend class if possible 'cause it Helps. He checks attendance at random.
He's straightforward & fair regarding what he expects from students & their performance in the class. Info & help is available through him or online. His grading is the same as other teachers. The Q's in hw & exams are the same for all CHEM1331 students. He covers what you need to know for the hw in class. If he didn't have time, there's the txtbk.
Alright,he is a pretty good professor (i've heard positive stuff about Bott too), he will make you show up to class or you will be dropped (but the good news is you get 2% on your final grade if you make all classes). The class is hard, don't expect him to be a pushover but he will answer every message you send him. Notes and lectures online.
Very fast pace class. extremely tedious weekly homework. you have to keep up daily or else you will just get more and more confused. He doesnt really teach. instead he reviews assuming we alrdy know what he is doing. i hated having him. i learned nothing from him. i only learned by studying by myself or with friends.
Terrible professor, does not care about students (although he will be nice in class if you ever talk to him he will not care to help you). Very Anal about test questions... Take Bott.
He's a pretty good prof. From everything I heard about him, I thought it would be really bad, but its possible to do well in this class. It's chemistry, so you will have to put in more study time. Overall, go to class, study early, and ready the book and lecture notes.
Homework every week will be online. If you fail 3 of them he will drop you. If you are having trouble he will tell you to go to tutoring upstairs but the "tutors" spend more time playing around with each other then they do actually helping you. He is monotone and hard to follow during his lectures. Do not take him unless you have to!!!
extremely helpful at explaining concepts and lectures are understandable. too bad he doesn't teach inorganic 1 also.
Overlooked and underrated prof. Personally, I liked him. He made chem crystal clear for me. Excellent at explaining concepts & teaches good techniques to rmbr. Go to class. Print out the slides, take notes. Do the practice probs online. Weekly hwk, but it's helpful. Also, DO THE PRACTICE EXAM multiple times. It is EXTREMELY helpful for the tests.
He is beautiful compared to Bott. I mean he kind of lacks clarity and lecture skills but his tests are soooooo much easier than those of bott's.. It's better to go to Bott's lectures while you are registered in Geanangel's class fyi
It takes such effort worth 30 years of teaching, check, to make such a fun subject BORING! It has been said a good politician can give a speech for hours without saying anything. With that, He charges the govt. of the universe. Sadly, Bott doesn't teach Chem 1 now, so you need tutorials. HW is murder, so goodling everything works so well, wow. ._.;
I went into this class fearing for my life, but it's not bad at all. Reads from slides but they're a good review before the test. Tests are VERY similar to the HWs. Go to class, read the textbook, do the HW, do practice tests, review using the slides, and it's an easy A
I highly recommend him. His lectures are a great balance between theory and application (he always works example problems so you know how to use the theories). The exams are very similar to the homework and practice tests. Lectures are on powerpoint slides, but he takes his time with the material and always takes questions. GOOD teacher.
totaly recommend this professor. easy A compare 2 bott. true he is class is borry but he helps a lot. do the practice prbm. n go to class. he gives 3 surprise popper quizz 4 ext crd. attend calss everyday. and pay attention as he goes along. he answ. question in respectful way. just go for it. u will sure get an A if u are willing to wrk 4 it.=D
Just a regular teacher.
He's a relatively ok teacher, he's willing to answer your questions after class. In addition to the class, textbook, and hw, go get tutoring at lss for anything you don't understand. It helped me to get a B in the class. It is very easy to get behind in his class but make sure you go to class everyday (to get extra credit and so ur not lost)
Worst class I've taken, this guy just reads off the slides. If you do bad on the entrance exam, they force you to drop if you're failing the class by midterms. I guess a W on your behalf looks better than an F in theirs. Most people I know dropped this class. Take this class with someone else.
If you don't know where the Chem help desk, UScholars, or SEP is you better find there and make it your second housing because this class is not something to mess around with. The professor is not good at explaining and doesn't make the class enjoyable. Take Bott when he is available.
Lectures are boring, but he provides many resources to study for the test. He has online quizzes that can be retaken infinite times after the due date, practice tests, and they all reflect the tests. Also has his lectures on iTunes.
Alright teacher. Pay attention an do the hw, dont google them, actually do them and you will be fine. I recommend to take the practice test because they are very similar to the real test.
He is not a bad teacher, but chem is not an easy subject. Pay attention, actually do Homework and study on your own, you can get a b or maybe an A. You need to try, and whatever you do, don't slack off!!!
Lets just put it this way, VERY HARD!
awesome professor and a very nice guy. his note are very helpful. there are pop attendance quizzes so attend class. study a lot for the test by doing the practice test reviewing the homeworks.
He is a good teacher. He will explain everything in detail and give good examples. The class is far from easy, so a lot of studying is needed. Tests are fair and he tells what is needed for each test.
Great prof. Really nice and offers help during office hours. You will only get good grades if you study. It's CHEM 1331. Very fair tests. I got an A.
At first I was scarred of him after reading the reviews, however, he is very nice and tests are easy. If you have a question I recommend that you go to his office a week before the test to avoid long lines.
Very dedicated professor. Looks like he should have retired already but still there teaching. Great sense of humor. He answers your questions. Read the chapters. He goes over them in class along with his notes(online). I recommend him if you're someone who wants to learn and not expect to get an A just for showing up. He's awesome :)
He does not get enough recognition that he deserves. Very respectful teacher. Very helpful, wants his students to succeed. Great sense of humor. I wish the rest of the chemistry teachers treated their students like he does.
Great teacher who really cares. His class isn't really that hard too if you just do what's expected of you. I didn't even have to study super hard, and I got an A. He's actually pretty funny too.
Great professor who truly cares about how his students do in class! He doesn?t get as much credit as he deserves compared to other professors. You need to put a fair amount of effort to receive an A, but it's not too hard if you pay attention in class and actually do the homeworks. Good luck!
Really underrated chemistry professor! While I am not the biggest chemistry fan, he was very good at making things clear and the homework and tests seemed fair and reasonable to me. You must put time into this class if you want to succeed. Also, I liked his enthusiasm, as he was always smiling when he came to class and during lectures!
Tbh, his class was boring. But his organization and fair grading make up for it. He comes prepared to class with good consistent powerpoint lectures and you get notes that come along with it. His test are easy, as long as you do the review. He is also sweet and can be funny at times.
Organized and well prepared. he lectures from his notes which he posts online. A bit boring but he has his funny moments. Tests are easy as long as you do your weekly hw. the final IS comprehensive so try to remember all the concepts. tests are 20 questions each. final 34 questions. it's good to read ahead so you can pick it up faster in class.
If you're going to take this class, get ready for some challenging stuff. The professor may not be the best at explaining things, so it would be wise to form a study group before each exam. You really don't need to read the book unless you need to look at a table. Just take notes and study and you should be good to go!
Dr. G doesn't get the credit he deserves. He's an awesome professor and very intelligent. Like any other class you have to put in the effort to learn by yourself to succeed but Dr. G is very kind and helpful with your questions and concerns
Not the easiest class. Dr. G has a soothing voice, very easy to fall asleep in his class. The book is lifesaver. Hwks answers are usually on google, but its better to try them for your own practice. Tests are relatively average in terms of difficulty.
He is a great teacher is very well educated in the topics he teaches. Study the homework, form a study group and take the practice test and you'll be fine. The first test is the hardest for me the last two were easy sauce and the final if you study you'll be fine. In all he ia a very interesting man. Study hard and you'll get your grade you deserve.
There was no point in coming to class. His lectures are boring and the book was a lifesaver! I had to teach myself.
I may be the outcast here, BUT I think he's better then Bott as a professor, the exams are a bit easier, and he's not as funny, but he gets straight to the point, and does not advertise school spirit as much. Very knowledgeable, I love the course, but I am horrible with Math but fascinated by Chemistry, He does not look down on those poor with math
He is an alright professor. His information is helpful only if you have read ahead in book. You take 3 tests with a final.
Let's look at him from a different angle (NOTE: this is not an attempt to sympathize him): he created an online chat for people. basically, if you don't use the resources, then don't take the class - simple! he even stay after lecture to answer questions, never receiving a proper "thank you" - only to get garbled mutterings. As for my opinion? Zzzz
I have much respect for the professor and I found him quite entertaining but you have to pay attention in his class to pass the tests. He posts all his lectures online which are VERY VERY VERY! helpful.
Incredibly boring.
Professor Geanangel is a great, passionate teacher. He moves over topics quickly, but there are definitely enough resources to help you if you're struggling. I highly recommend reading the textbook, it's what the tests and homework is based on! Loved the class!
Chemistry is not an easy subject. Homework (6%), 3 MTs (20%each) and One Final(34%). Tests contain similar problems from the homework and practice test, so do those for sure! I reviewed his notes and took at least 3 attempts on the homework and Got an A. Dr. G tries very hard to make the class interesting so I'd recommend him, over others.
He is a very nice professor, but you have to listen to the lectures, especially since the material is somewhat difficult. He tries to make his lectures more interesting for students, and you are rewarded if you go (bonus credit). Be prepared to study and work hard for this class.
Lectures not very engaging so I barely ever paid attention. However, if you go up to him either after class or in his office, he's very helpful at answering questions. Study more than one night for the test (2-3 should be fine) if you want an A.
He seems nice in class but very condescending when you speak with him personally. He's not very approachable if you ask him to explain why you had an answer wrong on the exam. Earned an A in the class and still did not think he was a good teacher. He needs a better attitude.
Chemistry can be a hard subject to learn, especially when teaching yourself. Geanangle's time has passed him by and so has the art of teaching. At UH , most professor show up and read not teach, my suggestion is to really research your professors before you take the class and don't get into a situation that you have no choice in who you take !
If your good at teaching yourself this is the perfect class. He is a terrible teacher. THe test really do not reflect the material. I study for his test for over 5 hours and still failed the tests. THe test take questions from a poll and put them on a test. So if you get a set of hard questions oh well.
His lectures are not the most interesting, but he teaches well. Do the practice tests and try all the attempts on homework. Bott is probably better, but Geanangel is pretty good.
He was a good teacher for the most part. i understood everything. he did not give enough extra credit which would have helped my grade a lot. but if you try really hard you do good. all the answers to his quizzes are online. just do good on the quizzes and you will make a decent grade.
His lectures can be boring at times, however he does cover everything in class that shows up on the online quizzes and final exam. It is always helpful to read ahead (for any class) and ask questions if you need something clarified - but don't expect the answer that you are looking for. Many professors misinterpret questions, so don't take offense.
Professor Genangel is pretty good. Let me be clear though: you probably won't do well in the class unless you read ahead and study on your own outside of class (that means read the chapter, take notes while you read, and do practice problems from the book as well as old tests and homework's). He can be dry, but he's a good guy.
He was not a bad, but he was not all that great. Attendance is not mandatory but if you do come it'll be a huge benefit to you. He posts his notes online and they are great to look off of(notes consist of important material from textbook). His lectures can get very boring. As long as you put in effort and work/practice, you should be fine!
Possibly the worst class I have ever taken. His lectures are boring, and do not properly cover the material you are tested on. READ THE BOOK because the material is very broad (and more useful than the actual lecture). The exams are difficult and the only reason you should go to class is for the 2/3 point bonus. He is also a fossil.
I think he is the best chem 1331 prof at UH and even though he may be boring he isn't that bad. You do need to study a bit everyday in order to succeed but the grade is worth it in the end.
I don't undertand why people here consider Geanangel a "good" professor? His class is boring, his test are hard and tricky, and the way he teaches of a ppt is just inefficient, and he offer no curve. The class requires A LOT of studying on your own. In my opinion he needs to retire and make room for a GOOD chem professor at UH.
Geanangel is a decent professor. Lectures can be very dull and although class isn't mandatory, taking notes in the class will be helpful in studying for exams and reviewing for the final. Gives few bonus point opportunities, so don't rely on those to bump your grade. You can probably pass the class by doing the homework questions and studying them.
He is probably the best 1331 professor, but he does not give curves like the other professors (from what I have heard)which helps a lot. Attendance not mandatory but recommended. There are random bonus quizzes throughout semester, but questions are hard. It wouldnt have raised my average even if i got them right.Study 3+ days before tests
Geanangel's lectures are okay if you keep up with reading, but i didn't so I didn't attend class.(Preferred it;]) He puts up all his notes on bb and I learned heavily from the textbook. Be prepared for your final!! 1% of your grade per question! Take him if you can self learn and don't want to attend class. Don't think chem1331 prof matters much.
Professor Geanangel had very boring lectures. His notes were descriptive, but confusing at the same time. Even when you felt prepared, the tests were difficult. If you didn't read the textbook, you probably had no idea what was going on in class.
Definitely a great professor! I learned a lot from his lectures. If you put effort in his class, it'll really pay off in the end. Rarely read the book, but it would have been really helpful if I did. Overall great professor.
He's a pretty boring teacher, but you can tell he likes chemistry a lot and he's pretty helpful outside of class. I stopped going to lectures cuz they're basically useless. Just study the book and use the clutch prep website and you'll be fine.
Lecture are not helpful, this is a complete self learning class. Professor does not understand how to teach in the now and students suffer greatly. Everyone I know has suffered in the exams and have had to resort to study groups.
Choose another professor. This class was really tough. The professor was useless, just read slides off of power points. He was boring. He cannot teach. This semester, the average for exam 2 was a 59. He did not curve. No curves in this class. Exams are really tough. STAY AWAY! Will ruin your GPA.
He is the worst chemistry teacher, choose a different professor like Bott. After exam two the class went from 500 to 200 students. He is that bad. Not many people come to class because class is useless. Less than 10 percent of class get the A. Avoid this professor!!!!
Lets just say this class requires more studying and work than calculus 1431! Make sure you research about your professors first because this professor is not the professor you want as your first chemistry class. Exams are really hard. Notes are easy examples then the test is way harder. DO NOT take this class. It was hard and very boring.
He is by far the worse chemistry teacher. If you want to learn and understand, you won't get it from him. He doesn't care about his students at all.
Don't take this guy. He doesn't care about his students and he can't teach chemistry. If you want to work your butt off to get an A then good luck
Run!!!!!!! I have never ever work so hard for a chemistry class! This class is very very hard to manage with cal, bio, etc. if you can't do well in here then you won't survive in chem 2. Very challenging course and not an easy A. If you find yourself struggling in any science courses , I strongly recommend you to drop before it's too late. RUN!
This class I had to teach everything myself. Don't take Geanangel. AWFUL professor. Save yourself a semester and just don't take him. Your grades come from tests primarily, if you talk to him about a failing first test, he won't do anything. No drop tests, and no curves for those hopeless/failing students who talk to him in his office hours .
Got an A in CHEM 1301 with bott but got worse grades with Geanangle. This class is much harder and has 10x more studying and hw. It was painful to stay awake and be concentrated on his lectures. For exams, I missed a lot of conceptual problems, so reading the book is very important. This course has the same grading scale as OCHEM so an A is tough.
The people complaining got weeded out and should change career goals. I took him Fall 2011 right out of high school and got an A. He uses home made powerpoints and required blackboard hw counting the highest of 6 attempts. Has three casa 20 point exams with no drop tests and one 34 point final. 30 mins daily hands on practice should do the trick.
Worst professor ever. Doesn't know how to teach. He just reads off of a power point and calls it a day. It is sad because he seems like such a nice guy, but teaching should not be his profession. Class was down to 300 before the first exam even came around. By the time that the first exam passed, no one stayed in class. Will destroy your GPA!
He's very passionate about chemistry, but the problem is that he expects you to read the textbook before you come to class, then teaches as if you know everything. The problem with this, is that the textbook is incredibly difficult to understand. He's a nice guy, but I barely passed the class. Buying his online lectures through iBooks saved me
He is a great teacher
This Course was not difficult overall. His lectures are like the text book but he barely gives any extra credit. It's not difficult if you study your materials. Test are kinda tough but you'll get use to it. It's not really a blowoff class.
Geanangel is an adorable old man but a very tough grader. His tests are impossible to pass if you do not study, but the way he curves helps a lot. For instance if you made a C in the class you actually have a B as your final grade. However, no tests are dropped and there is a homework due every week. Good luck! He is unfortunately a boring lecturer
Professor Geanangel understands chemistry very well and is knowledgeable in the subject. He is probably the best Chemistry I teacher at the University of Houston. Unfortunately, often times you will find yourself falling asleep in class as his voice is a bit boring. If you take notes in class, do homework multiple times, and study, you'll pass!
