Such a good teacher. You dont need to go to class, just read. Only assigned papers throughout the semester. When I got a C on my paper he told me to redo it. GREAT english accent and humor. Class can be boring but its still worth it to go because he's hilarious

Took for intermediate writing. Kind of a do nothing/learn nothing class. Has you read a bunch of essays that have nothing to do with writing assignments (which is what you are graded on). Very bright guy though. Pretty eassy grader. 6 essays, no tests, 1 presentation.

Words do not describe how much I love Dr. Hillier. He's such an interesting guy and really knows and loves what he teaches. Very helpful and understanding. Loves class participation. He really inspired me to get into Metaphysical Poetry. I can't wait to take another class with him again.

Tries to keep class interesting and funny, even when it's civ. Some people dont like the way he lectures, but he give out an outline that sums up his lecture quite well.

This was a 400-level seminar on all Shakespeare's tragedies. We read all the big ten tragedies over the Fall semester. Quizzes on every play, two papers. Hillier mixed lectures with discussion. Always intersting, fast-moving discussions. This guy REALLY knows his Shakespeare. Respects students opinions and very helpful with papers. Take him!

Wonderful professor. I was terrified of English, and I left that class with an English major and so did others. He makes the texts come alive. He is so knowledgeable that I worry PC will lose him to a better school. One of the best decisions I made was taking him for English core. He is also hilarious, handsome, and has a great British accent.

He cares about your creativity and Ive never gotten an essay prompt from him bc we are able to do that. He doesnt assign too much reading but cares about how you received it. This class was one of my favorites at PC. Dr Hillier made Shakespeare so interesting and he was passionate about the material and excited to hear everyone's thoughts. Learning Shakespeare's tragedies from someone who knew so much about him made this class so great. I appreciated his dedication to the class and his students.

An absolute gem of a professor. He is wicked passionate, and informed on the texts for class. He's infectiously excited about what he is teaching, and his lectures are extremely well prepared. Not to mention his energy and British dry humor makes it go by quickly. The workload is minimal, and there is the occasional quiz, as well as a few papers.

Dr. Hillier was a great professor to have this semester. If you are lucky enough to have him for 175, you will not be disappointed. There were reading quizzes pretty much every class which for me was a challenge since I'm not a good test taker, but his humor and passion for the material outweighed the challenges. I hope I get to have him again!

Professor Hillier is, hands down, the greatest professor I have ever had. He's a fascinating human and a true educator. The new Cormac McCarthy seminar, if you can take it, is worth it. Lots of reading, 9 novels, but if you can manage the time it'll be worth your while. Never had a more fulfilling academic experience, cannot recommend him enough.

Professor Hillier was one of my favorite professors at Providence College. He always made class interesting and he knows his craft. I took him for ENG 175 and DWC 102 and I would take one of his courses again if I could. He made coming to class fun, although there are reading quizzes that is apart of what comes with college, however, he is amazing.

Professor Hillier clearly spends a lot of time prepping his exams, and all of the books we read by Cormac McCarthy were incredibly written and amazing to read. Professor Hillier's class on Cormac McCarthy went beyond my expectations. He is a fair grader who gives extensive feedback, giving you an opportunity to improve your writing. Fulfills oral proficiency and philosophy core. As a non-english major, I would recommend this course to anyone! Enjoyed every book and the work load is very manageable.

McCarthy was my second Hillier course and I loved it. He makes this non-English major want to convert! (But I can't.) He loves interacting with the students and sends material (e.g. anything from articles to silly videos) that he thinks will interest you individually once he gets to know you. He's understanding when things come up. Absolute gem!

Dr. Hillier's seminar on Cormac McCarthy was by far the best English course I have taken at Providence College. He was truly inspiring and his passion for Cormac McCarthy was contagious and rubbed off not only on me but my peers as well. There's a lot of reading, but its all interesting material. If you get the chance, take this class at all costs!

I've taken Civ 101 with Hillier as well as a lot of his higher-level classes that aren't listed here. He's a great professor overall, really passionate about his work, might crack dirty jokes from time to time, most importantly though he cares about his students. He'll help you as best he can so long as you ask and make an effort.

I had Professor Hillier for DWC 101 and I absolutely loved it! His lectures are very engaging and the same goes for his seminar. Participation does matter in seminar but participating is definitely worth it! As for outside of class, he is extremely caring and very accessible. I always had questions and he never hesitated to help clarify them.

Professor Hillier really pays attention to your papers and comments useful feedback on your writing. Most of all though, his passion for the subject matters shine through in his lectures as he delivers engaging and entertaining lectures and allow you to experience the great literature through his eyes and more.

There are a lot of readings and questions due before every seminar but he does a really good job at explaining concepts. If you don't understand something he takes the time to explain them and simplify concepts.

Took Dr. Hillier for both 101 and 102, great decision. He is such a great teacher, truly caring. The team's grading is pretty easy, with quizzes on seminar days. There is a decent amount of reading, but others got by without opening a book. He is hilarious and he genuinely tries to get to know you, learns your name after one day, highly recommend

Professor Hiller is a wonderful professor. I am a business major and don't necessarily love reading, but I would 100% take his class again. Although some of the books we read were challenging, he provided amazing commentary and insight on the texts. He is a very engaging and funny professor, you will not regret taking his class.

AMAZING!!! such a great guy. Quizzes almost every class on the reading. Theres alot of reading, but the books are interesting and its not bad at all. 2 papers, participation matters, and only homework is reading. He is the best and so understanding. Lectures are super entertaining too.

First English class at PC and most definitely worth it. As someone who's only taking this course for the Writing 1 credit, I truly loved going to class. His energy in lectures is admirable and he puts his all in the class to keep you interested. As long as you do the reading and participate a decent amount, you're set!

Tom Brady of English at PC. He is the most passionate college professor I have ever had, he cares, he's always available to chat, and he's kind. His British accent is awesome, and he makes the material so enjoyable, even though some of it's Shakespeare. He's a must take, even if you soak an A-/B+ its entertainment and so worth your time and money.

Russian literature is not as intimidating as it sounds -- quizzes are usually tough, but as long as you keep up with the readings its fine. Dr. Hillier's lectures are interesting and he's really nice so I would definitely recommend this class!!
