Stats was actually fun for once
Dr. Matthews is funny and enthusiastic and teaches the course from a real-life perspective aiming to teach students things that they may actually use in their careers.
Wonderful professor. Dr. M definitely knows what he's talking about and he teaches with such enthusiasm that you can't help but be entertained. I'd surely recommend taking him.
One of the best professors I had in my time at BGSU. His class was also one of the classes I learned the most in. I would highly recommend him.
Dr. M was THE best professor I have had at BGSU. He was enthusiastic and very helpful. I recommend him for all PSYC students. This class is a must take for those looking to go to graduate school, so you might as well learn from someone who is good at teaching it.
He explains everything very thoroughly, however, there are a lot of notes. If you don't go and just look off of the power points, you will miss a lot of extra notes he says in class
Dr. Matthews is very excited about what he does. He takes time to explain all the concepts, as long as you come to class. You can get away with not reading the book if you come to class, but if you skip, good luck figuring out some of the concepts.
Dr. Me is pretty great, basically if Leonard from The Big Bang Theory taught the class. Snarky and entertaining. Tests are hard, but extra credit happens often.
Lectures are very interesting but do take up the entire class period. He tells you at the beginning that you have to work for your grade and it's true. There are not a lot of points in the class so doing well on the homework and doing the extra credit is necessary. I enjoyed taking this class and I would suggest it to marketing and business majors.
Tests aren't just from class lecturepower points so be sure to READ YOUR BOOK. Ask loads of questions of you are confused because he goes fast! Though he doesn't take attendance, you want to be in class!
Although he has made me work hard in this class to earn my grade, I am so glad I took his class. Although not mandatory, go to class and you'll do fine on exams- he will tell you which slides to focus on & sometimes examples of the questions he will ask. He knows his information, and knows how to teach it in different styles if needed. Great guy!
Knows his information. I'm glad I took this course because he is a great professor. Go to class & you will have a good understanding of the information- he is able to teach in many different styles if needed. During class he will tell us to focus on certain slides & give examples of questions he will ask on the exams. Exams are tough but manageable
The test questions are very specific so you need to know the material. While lecture attendance isn't required, you will not pass if you do not go. Don't let the difficulty scare you, he is very humorous and the makes the information interesting. I would suggest taking this class.
Many geeky references. I thoroughly enjoyed them.
Dr. M is a great teacher. He's very clear with the material and will repeat things many times so everyone understands. He doesn't take attendance, but it's VERY helpful to go to class; he'll tell you what materials are going to be on the test. There's no study guide and the tests are pretty hard, so going to class and reading the book go a long way
The tests are very specific and difficult, so make sure you attend class even though it's not required. Professor M loves the material he teaches and makes it interesting to the students. He wants to help you understand. No study guide, so you should read the book and go to class. He makes you work for your grade but I'd definitely recommend him!!
He is a great professor and really knows his stuff, but it is a lot of information and it is very difficult to learn.
He is a great professor and he really knows the information, but you really have to teach yourself most of the information and go to class and read the book to get anywhere near a good grade in the class.
Very difficult tests.. Scores are pretty much a bell-graph, so not many people gets A's. The homework is easy and he's a very good teacher. Attendance isn't required but you definitely need to go to understand the material.
If you attend class every day, he will tell you during the lectures what will be on the next exam. All of his slides are very clear and he always explains things in multiple ways so it is easy to comprehend.
Homeworks and exams are somewhat hard but he explains everything in his lectures. He will clearly states during his lectures if something will be on the homework or on the exam so you know what to expect.
Dr. Matthews provides you with almost everything you need in a class to pass. Power-points are provided ahead of time and so are the homework assignments. Expect to read and study a lot. Attendance is not mandatory, but I suggest you attend. His exams are difficult but the book and power-points will help you. Would recommend him
Homework assignments are time consuming but drops lowest score Easy extra credit assignments Boring material but he is a very enthusiastic professor
He's a wonderful teacher and his teaching style is clear, but the material is difficult. The tests are very hard and specific, so sometimes the book doesn't even help. The HW is easy and he drops the lowest grade.. He gives extra credit. If you're looking for an easy A, don't take this class. Dr M is great though!!!
His lectures are very interesting but they are long. He also really makes you work for your grade which is a good thing.
I like how he brings his former job at IBM into his lectures. He also tries to explain the material multiple ways to help the students understand.
He's really good at teaching, but you have to really focus on what he says. His examples are more important than his slides it seems sometimes. The book was really helpful for the tests but be prepared to read in depth. Very knowledgeable though.
He's very knowledgeable, his tests are difficult if you do not pay attentionread. its not mandatory but it is highly recommended that you attend class or you will miss important test questions.
I really enjoyed his approach to teaching in general. The fact that attendance isn't mandatory is one of my motivators to go to class. I think that mandatory attendance is an excuse to be boring. He makes you want to go because what he has to say is interesting and dynamic. Going to class often helps with test guidance, but you also need to read.
He is very passionate about the course, which makes it better for you, and sparks your interest in the material as well. His test are hard, but if you go to class and take notes they're manageable.
Dr. Matthews composes very good lectures. He is willing to explain topics in different ways in order to make sure that the majority of the class understands the material. His tests are made of fair questions, however he does make sure you know the material. Taking good notes in class is very helpful.
I think he could assign or give the option to do more homework. This might help students who need to gain more points, because they didn't do well on the tests. I really like the subject matter and find it knowledgeable, I just didn't do very well on the tests. BTW I'm getting a D, and that grade down below says an A+ and will not let me change it.
He's very engaging and interesting, but his tests are decently hard considering the material.
He makes IO a very interesting topic. He tries to give as many examples as he can to clarify something. Although attendance isn't mandatory, it helps A LOT to go, he gives you specific material that'll be on the exam from the slides and some that aren't on the slides or book. Very funny, corky guy. Would definitely take a class with him again.
There is a lot of information that needs to be learned in this class. Luckily, he gives great examples, and is pretty clear about the material. With the large amount of material, the exams are hard. There is no study guide, he says that everything is important to know, so studying and attendance is MANDATORY! He is fair when grading though.
Great teacher. Test are not that easy but if you read and study you will be fine just like many classes
He is a fair teacher. The grade you get is deserved. Attendance is not mandatory but is highly recommended.
Dr. Matthews is a great professor, extremely knowledgeable of the subject. He does make the subject interesting. It was an early class so it seems tough for people to participate, which he really enjoys. The exams are tough, but I believe its the subject terms that make them difficult. SHOW UP TO CLASS AND LISTEN is the best advice I can give.
This class isn't too difficult if you pay attention, come to class, and actually study for the exams. Professor Matthews does a good job of making things more interesting and adding some humor to the content.
Dr. M sticks to the syllabus, for my self a non-traditional student, I find it a little fast. He does have a good sense of humor, which adds to the interest of what is being lectured. I have only one complaint, he does not give the exam question and answer sheet back which would allow a student to go back over hisher work to learn from mistakes.
Dr. Matthews makes it simple: come to class, participate, take notes, do the homework, and study for the exams. He will also respond better during the class lectures if students ask questions and participate overall.
Dr. Matthews definitely stresses the importance of class attendance if you want to do well at all on the test. But otherwise he's a good teacher, if you ask for help or clarification on a matter he is good at explaining it.
He posts his notes online, but his notes don't carry all of the information. You really have to listen in and write down what he says in lecture. Nonetheless, he makes IO Psych interesting. I'd recommend the class, especially to any business or psych majors.
It was a really interesting class, but it wasn't a requirement for me. I'm about to graduate and this class is somewhat difficult. I took it passfail.
I thought it would be an easy A, but you do need to study and go to class to get a good grade on the exam. The content of the class is interesting though, and it's easy to engage in the lecture
He speaks quickly and usually only has the bare essentials on the powerpoints
interesting class, grades are very much based on your exam scores only. Great opportunities for extra credit.
great professor, lectures are fascinating showing his passion for I/O psychology. I learned a lot in this class. The grading is tough though and only based on a few assignments to go with the exams.
Lecture heavy class, very similar to MGMT 3600 topic-wise. Professor is good. He knows a lot, but sometimes has to pause to collect thoughts or think about what to say. He makes the class applicable to real life. He does not give obsessive amounts of homework either.
He's ok
He is a decent professor. Pretty much the average.
He is an alright teacher. The material can get boring but some stuff is interesting.
Important to go to class to get examples and explanations on topics. Also going to class gives you an idea about what will be heavy topics for questions on exams! Overall, great class, learned a lot! Book was also helpful for if I had to miss class and for any extra clarifying on topics.
The textbook isn't specifically used in class, but you will be glad to have it when it comes time to study. Would reccomed sharing a textbook with someone if you can't afford to but the textbook.
Make sure to read the book, not just the powerpoint, because exams contain questions from the book that aren't in the powerpoint. Dr. Matthews also gives out a lot test questions during class, so just going to class helps out a ton. His lectures are fairly interesting, and he gives good examples to help remember things.
He puts the powerpoints on canvas, but he elaborates more in class. He also points out certain information that will be on the exam, so going to class helps a lot.
Great class. He makes lectures worth going to. He gives information that is on the test that only people who show up to class will know the answers to. Homework isn't hard, he gives opportunities for extra credit, but the tests are somewhat difficult. Overall interesting class and fun teacher.
Showing up to class is beneficial to your grade but not mandatory. Class was interesting at times. If you read the book, do the homeworks, and go to class, you'll get an A.
He is not all too charismatic about teaching. It is clear his passion lies with his research and primary occupation as an I.O Psychologist. Only 6 Homework assignments and 4 exams with this course so everything counts here. He mostly teaches and tests off of his presentations so SHOW UP TO CLASS (but also read the book).
He's a good guy, if you're a good student you should be okay.
His lectures were probably the most entertaining that I have encountered in college so far. He takes pretty bland material and makes it funny and interesting. He is very honest and understands what it like to be a college student. The only problem I had was that we just lectured and read the book. I need more interaction to learn material.
He is a great professor who is always well prepared for class. His tests aren't that hard if you pay attention in class and skim through the chapters. He is always making jokes and strives to make lectures fun and enjoyable! Great professor overall
He is a funny guy and a honest guy. Definitely demonstrates understanding of the topic.
The class was interesting but it was really hard when the exams came. They are worded very differently and tricky to understand
Took this class, and would not take it again.
Speaks fast during lectures, but is very informational and the powerpoints are online.
Demonstrates understanding of material. Class isn't mandatory but hard to pass exams if you don't attend.
He is a very good teacher
Do. Not. Skip. Class. He posts the notes online but you need to be there to understand the content. This class is not straightforward like other psychology classes, I thought it was difficult. But Dr. Matthews is fun to listen to, and funny but cynical. It's great. He was also understanding when I had personal issues keeping me from taking an exam
He's a great guy, absolutely hilarious and relatable. While attendance is not mandatory, if you don't go to class you probably won't do very well on the exams since he's very content/explanation based.
He is a solid professor. There are only six assignments( 5 graded) and four exams. He refers to himself as a sarcastic butt hole, which is true, but makes for a interesting lecture every class period. I would definitely recommend him as a professor. If you come to class and are engaged, you could get a solid B.
A fun class to be in but very info heavy.
Dr. Matthews is a good professor, it is just hard material.
Dr. Matthews made the class interesting by not just reading off the power points. He made the material relatable.
Good lectures.. lots of information to remember. Only multiple choice tests.
Decent professor, however I didn't care for his teaching style and felt like he didn't care if the students did well or not. Don't skip class or you won't be prepared for his exams. Sometimes I felt like the exam questions were very confusing and had multiple answers.
He's a good professor, he is very knowledgeable on the material and tries to make the class more interesting by incorporating real life scenarios to the topics he teaches.
He is a great professor who knows what he is talking about. He attempts to make you laugh. Only graded on six homework assignments and then the tests. You are graded on very little so it is important to go to class (which is not mandatory), pay attention and do the homework. Homework is simple just time consuming. He does offer extra credit.
Lectures are kind of dry, but he tries to make them entertaining. Reading the textbook would be beneficial, but isn't required to pass with a good grade.
a hilarious teacher but you have to attend class as well as take notes in order to pass. good in letting you receive points for things that may be late
Unless you're a psych major, don't take this class. The test questions are hard to understand even if you study a lot. Your grade pretty much all depends on how well you do on the tests. Dr. Matthews is knowledgable on the topic, but he talks so fast during class it's hard to comprehend anything he's saying.
An overall great professor, albeit a little quick with his lectures. A lot has to be packed in to a little time, and he does an excellent job at making it as manageable as possible.
