McGuff is awesome because he really knows his stuff. He is helpful, but hes not just going to give you the answers, he wants you to learn! he does not tolerate cheating, or plagiarism, so dont be stupid. Otherwise he rocks the catbox with his guitar.

Took his web based general psych class, and never,had a problem with him,or his teaching. He lays everything out for you so there is never any confusion on test material,due dates,papers,etc. Really understanding(allows a make up test).Read & youll be OK.

i took his class over the summer. we covered a lot of material pretty quickly, but the class was fun and the teacher is a nice guy. cut us some slack when we ran out of time at the end of the semester. i would take another class with him.

I loved this teacher. If you want an easy grade and an instructor who will feed you all the answers, don't take this class. If you're actually interested in learning the material, McGuff is the way to go. He REALLY knows what he's talking about.

He is a little goofy but really helps students who try and show the effort. His notes tend to jump around but he knows his stuff. 4 tests 4 essays but PARTICIPATE!! Also had him for PSY2012 =P~ Good luck.

ok, so i didn't pass the class b/c test were really hard. but he is a great teacher & get to class on time, its your fault, not his! this is one the best lecture teachers i ever had! i will take the class again b/c i know when i find a great teacher

So he gives out papers and his tests need studying for, big friggen deal. He teaches a college level course and doesn't put up with slackers that skip his class and are looking for an easy a. Come to class, read the material, write a 300 word paper every now and then, and you'll make a good grade

This class is not difficult, but you have to be willing to give some effort. Dr. McGuff is very willing to help with any questions that you might have, but he wants to see you put your time into it.

This class was TOUGH. Dr. McGuff has a lot of expectations, though not unreasonable. Come to class, read the book, write 2 papers. Everything on the test isn't covered in class (that's why you need the book) He's very engaging, and, while prone to tangents, knows what he's talking about.

What a great class and what a great guy. Knows what he is talking about and is an awesome lecturer. Turn your cell phones OFF before walking in the door. The tests are easy as well as the paper topics. In short take his class

Interesting guy. Sometimes he gets really deep into subjects, which is pretty cool. He sort of has a cocky attitude, but a good sense of humor. He likes it when you ask questions. He grades pretty strict on the essays, but his tests are pretty easy if you listen to lectures and read over the chapters. Overall, I'm glad I took him.

Isn't very clear on what he wants on the test, but he is nice, and makes it interesting

I took this class online and the thing that I thought was asinine was that each assignment had to be printed out and hand written and mailed or dropped off in his office. The purpose of an online class is so you don't have to go on campus. Assignments were kind of repetative but they did help on the tests (which were fairly easy).

Dr. Mcguff is extremely challenging but provides very interesting lectures. He expects you to read the book and know the material well. It will help if you have had a biology and psychology class previously to developmental psych. I would definetely recommend Mcguff as a professor to make it interesting.

Mr. McGuff is very hard and he will make you study in order to make a good grade. Do not think that u will pass his class without studying. Test are not that hard as long as you read the book. Lecture notes are not important. He will give you credit for being there...so go!! I would recommend him b/c he teaches you a lot. Slackers beware...

He's very thorough, and very interested in both students and the subject matter. His clothes totally don't fit, though.

Great teacher, is very good at answering every students question. Tests are mostly from the lectures and not the book... yay!

I am not sure what others who say this guy was hard was talking about. I NEVER read the book! I got an A! For one test, he even left the answers from the lecture that he had just given over the material on the test ON THE BOARD! He is one of the best professors that I have EVER had!

its been awhile since i had him as a teacher but the class was intresting, helpful and easy. hes a great guy (little bit quirky) and shows a genuine intrest in his students.

I took this class about a year ago. I thought he was a great teacher! His lectures were interesting and the tests weren't hard if you stayed ontop of the material. He was very passionate about what he taught. I didn't find him or the class difficult at all!

I liked the class. Didn't seem that hard.

I am impressed! I took him for psychology and human develpment and enjoyed his lectures. He recognizes those who work hard and those who do not. He is very intimidating at first but stick with it and study-you will learn alot!!

I have only had this class for a couple of weeks now but i love it! He is quirky and fun! Reminds me of the doctor in house!!! The class seems to have a lot involved with it so i do not recommend it for people just wanting an easy credit! But it is very interesting and fun and a must take course in my book!

I don't understand why everyone had such a difficult time with him. As long as you read the assigned material and pay attention in class you shouldn't get anything lower than a B unless you have some sort of unconscious desire to fail and waste money.

Hard class but McGuff was very enthusiastic and helpful

I took his Web-based class and absolutely loved it. Mr. McGuff is always willing to assist the students' needs. His web class wasn't easy, but it was very interesting and he utilizes some interesting training material to keep students involved in the class. I highly recommend taking his class. He is an exceptional instructor.

Awesome teacher who is enthusiastic but he expects you to know the material he teaches and to read the book. He made class interesting and gives extra credit. We covered the ENTIRE book before the end of the semester so if you don't want to study then this class probably isn't for you. Worth taking though. I want to take another one of his classes.

Dr. McGuff is a great professor but he is not the easist. However, take advantage of his office hours and he will even preview your papers for you and tell you what to fix before they are due. Tests are pretty much straight from the lecture so just go to class and read your text.

A good man and good teacher. However he showed favoritism to those students that he felt were doing well in the class. I missed some classes due to a family member being in the hospital and he treated me poorly. I earned an 89% on the final and still ended up with a "C" seems a little biased to me.

McGuff is an amazing teacher who is enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the material. There's lots of reading, that IS why we buy the books! And there is even more info in class. Don't listen to the nay sayers, they are the ones who can't hack pushing themselves, never come to class, and then blame McGuff. He is a great teacher!! He is hot.

i don't know what people are thinking. i guess you guys are afraid of a little work and just expect to be handed a good grade. this is, after all, college. i enjoyed his class a lot. sure, i got lost on some topics, but most of it made sense to me. it was difficult at times, but he was always willing to help out. i'd like to take him again.

Great Teacher! Very intelligent and has a real passion for his teaching. He assumes that his students are intelligent and talks on that level, which may be why some don't like him, because they aren't smart enough. He's very understanding, but fair. He doesn't baby you, you have to work and it isn't easy! But enjoyed him.

Excellent! He is by far one of the best professors I've had. He expects alot from his students and in return students learn alot. He's witty, charming and easy to follow!

I took this class online and it wasn't easy but wasn't hard. Anytime I had a question, which was a lot, he was good about answering the phone or replying to my e-mails. He was very good about explaining things that weren't written clearly in the syllabus. I am taking him again this semester for DEP2004 and would 100% recommend him for any class.

I took this class on-line and got an A. Dr. McGuff is tough, there is no doubt about that. Tough in that he expects you to complete your assignments, read the chapters and study for the test. Some TCC students need to stop expecting professors to hand them an A! If you do the work, you will get a good grade, simple as that.

This guy looks like House. The online class is very do-able, but intimidating. 14 page sylabus was a giveaway. BUT - you will learn alot, and be pushed to learn and explore this subject. Online means you teach yourself, so if you dont want to study or read, do not take this class. An "A" is do-able, and i recommend him.

Please. No, he's not an easy prof. He expects you to WORK. Go figure. This is college, not preschool. GREAT professor, nice guy, will help you as much as he can, and genuinely cares. *I* got an A. So can you. And no, I am not the prof writing my own review. I doubt he even checks this board. Grow up and do the work.

I took him for summer last year and let me say, this guy is hard. you MUST come to class and you MUST study. He is not lenient and will not tolerate talking or cell phones. it is not impossible to get an A, I was able to combat with an A in the class, and although he is difficult, I have never learned a subject better.

Looks just like House. NOT an easy teacher. If you have no intentions of studying, don't take him. He gets off subject sometimes so you have to study at home. But, I really liked him and what he does cover in class you WILl remember on the test because he gives good examples.

Great professor, make you really think about subject.. Dont wanna study and learn? Dont take him. This is not a cake walk class... do the extra credits early! thatll help alot!

Finished his class this evening. Great teacher. One of the best that I have had. Really makes you think. Willing to help if you are willing to show you care and you are not there expecting him to just hand over a grade w/out work. Expects a lot from his students. If he tells you he does not want cell phones in the class LEAVE THEM IN THE CAR!!

Really likes participation.Expects a great deal of respect for the class.People need to learn that it is disrespectful to get up in the middle of a lecture and take a phone call.If U have to use the bathroom, stick a cork in it. If U take this class and U R there to learn U will have a lot of fun.Is more than willing to help!

He is a very good professor. He likes interaction in the class room for you to take notes. Make sure all cell phones, and other IED's are off. He will send you out of the class and dont get up to go to the bath room. HE LOOKS LIKE DR. HOUSE!!!!!!

Wasn't an easy teacher, but it's an extemely fun and interesting class to take. His classroom is one to be treated with respect which made class more enjoyable with no cell phones going off.

Whomever wrote the last comment, maybe it was your lack of sentence structure that failed you. He is an oustanding teacher. Hard? Yes he is but he will not just hand you the grade. You have to want it & work for it. Plus, I would hate to see any of you who gave a bad rating go to FSU. If you think this is hard, hold on to your pants.

Dr.McGuff is rediculously difficult. Hes a very educated man, but almost to a fault. I got lost in his 4 line long exam questions & felt overwhelmed with not having a study guide- at all! Hes very interactive, but you HAVE to teach yourself to survive. The powerpoints are way too intricate & personality wise, he's SO very stressful. NOT worth it!

I went to this class with no prior knowledge on the subject of Psychology. He does not give study guides, but he's willing to discuss anything in his office that you have questions about. His class is NOT easy, but you're getting a college education--get over it. The key to a good grade is to go to class, study, and ask questions. Period.

Prof. McGuff has an unjustly bad rap. He is an awesome teacher and is very knowledgeable about his subject matter, but he simply expects 100% from his students. Class attendance is pretty much mandatory, so is reading the book; his notes will not make sense if you don't. He gives lots of opportunities for extra credit (on exams & research papers).

People hate on Russ cause they don't feel like going to class or studying. Fact of the matter is: He makes lectures SUPER interesting and fun, and if you play HIS game, he will give you an A. Thanks for the great semester McGuff!

I struggled in his class a lot. However, he gives you extra credit every and every opportunity to bring up your grade. He is very fair in his grading. I took his class as an express session which I would not recommend. There is just to much infor. for such a short time frame. He really is very intelligent and a overall good prof.

Very kind & helpful. If u don't want 2 work 4 a grade then don't take him. He expects a great deal from his students b'cause he wants u 2 succeed. If u feel overwhelmed go talk 2 him. His lectures can seem like they jump around but the best thing 2 do is read beforehand & possibly take a recorder. Loves participation in lecture. Very witty & cute.

He is a very intelligent proffesor. He knows what he is talking about and is very helpful. He makes class interesting and is very nice and understanding. However, you HAVE TO READ THE BOOK. Just don't miss a lot and be polite, turn off your phone, and take notes/record lectures and you're good. Study hard and get an A.

Dr. McGuff is an AWESOME professor. He gives you every chance he can to do well in his class. His topics are interesting and he tries to make the material fun. If you miss three classes before a test, you can make up a test but it is more difficult than the original. Take him you will learn from a man who knows his stuff. Looks like House.

he seems like a nice family man and knows his stuff but i swear he tries to ruin lives. if your essay is 1 word short he will make you rewrite it on make up day. hes funny and polite but test is cumulative and on like 20 chapters. class itself is interesting but prepare yourselves I WARNED YOU

I love Dr. McGuff,probably the best professor I have had at TCC. He is very clear about what to expect and his lectures are the most engaged that I have attended. It would be best that if you take him you bring a tape recorder so that you can fill in your notes later & participate for EC. Reading the book is necessary on your own for papers/tests.

He's very helpful but yet again his notes arent very accurate with all the information on the tests. No tests review. Funny guy though. He loves watermelon eats it all day.

Take this class. It's not easy, but if you studied the text book and attended each class, you'll get an A. And it interesting and fun, as well as enriching. This is due to his charisma and obvious knowledge of the subject. You WILL get something from this course. And he looks like Hugh Laurie AND Dominic West, so, you know. chili pepper.

Great teacher. I'm hoping your in this class because you want to be. If psychology is your thing this class is perfect. He is attentive and expects a lot from students but I learned SO MUCH in this class - even online. Tests were not difficult. Just read and do your work - he appreciates it. FANTASTIC first experience for a psychology major/minor.

I took Dr.Mcguff for abnormal psychology in my last semester here at TCC and I have to say he is the top professor here. Sure, he won't give you a study guide to memorize for the tests. But those spoon feeding tactics take away from learning outcomes:they don't add to them. Basically, his tests are easy if you put in a little effort.

His class is not a walk in the park. He is very intelligent and his lectures can be long; but take notes and read the book sometimes. I took hime for General psychology and received a B, very close to an A. Then I took psychology of adjustment and got a B. There are no study guilds,so take good notes!

Not an easy professor, but very willing to help. You must read the book and attend class. I received an A, but I read and attended class, even when I didnt want to. He is hilarious. We had an essay test and the rest mutiple choice. It is college people, you have to study to get good grades. HE is very smart,helpful, and an excellent professor!!!

This class isn't easy, I can honestly say he gave me the 'college' experience. BUT if you give your all in the class you should do fine. If you want a cake walk this isn't the man for you.

Dr. McGuff is an amazing teacher for sure is in my Top 3. That being said this is a hard class with a lot of information . Go to class, ask questions and get involved in class discussions. If you just want to slide by without any effort and expect to get an A this class is not for you. If you apply yourself and work hard this class rocks!

I took him for general psycology. But when it comes down to the tests, he gave us his own notes to study, which helped a lot! His lectures are long but they're not boring- just enough to keep it interesting. Very nice/helpful teacher. He never emphasized attendence except for on the first day. But if you miss class, you do miss a lot of info.

Took him for human development, and I absolutely loved it. He is a tough professor, but only because he is thorough. there is an infamous exam where you have to write 4 essays in class. my advice: don't include everything. just get the gist of each topic down. This professor is for those who like the subject, not those who need credit hours.

Very very picky with papers! About 1/3 of tests are in the textbook and will not be covered in class. Tries to make the lectures fun and entertaining, but occasionally are tiring. Pretty nice guy.

I liked his class. He is nice and once you get to know him and how he is you can understand his personality :) He knows a lot. I would take him for other Psych classes for sure. It was interesting. Some people dont get him, but some people are also lazy and expect easy A's!

Only reason why this class is "difficult" is because it is a real college class. I enjoyed the lectures and the materials weren't too difficult. He expects students to attend lecture and doesn't put his ppt online for that reason. He gives good EC at the end and the midterm is 4 essays. Expects you to put in some effort to get an A, but not a lot.

When I chose this class, it was about scheduling. I read the comments on here and was pretty worried. You have to read every page of the book and do the Launchpad work and never miss class. Don't break the rules and it is a good class.

Great professor with even better lectures, but if you don't have the book, there is no way you will pass his class. His lectures are full of information but a lot of the tests are based off what you read in the book. Quick Tip: When studying for his tests, your best tool is his notes on launchpad, they will have everything you need to know.

I really had to work for it in this class. This class covers a ton of material, much of which the student learns independently. Dr. M is a great lecturer and his standards are very high. This class is not for lazy people or crybabies. You have been warned!!

He's a great prof if you're already very interested in psych. Somewhat disorganized with his lectures & and he explains things in terms of his own life experiences. Go to class, listen to him, & take notes you'll do just fine. If you have your phone out or it rings at any point in class he kicks you out. Lose points if your late.

Despite his reviews on RMP, Dr. McGuff is a great professor. He knows what he's talking about, and makes his lectures interesting. No pop quizzes, only two tests, a final, three discussion board posts, and a research paper. If you show up to class and do your work - you'll get an A. Grades last minute, but again, if you do the work you're solid.

The man is old school. He believes in people doing the work. He doesn't hold your hand. People now and days want hand outs. The public K-12 gives it to folks easy. They expect the same treatment when they enter college. They want tgeprofessor to hand hold and tell them everything. Your in college so study and do the work and you'll pass.

If you study and put in the work, you will pass. Just go to his office hours to ask for help. He likes his subject and enjoys explaining it. His favorite person is Sigmund Freud. He has a toy of him in his office LOL Ask him about Freud to connect with him even though Freud is weird.

He has been one of my favorite professors i have taken so far. He loves what he is teaching, and is very enthusiastic with his lectures. Attendance is mandatory but he gives you free days. If you miss class, he doesnt require an excuse. He loves helping his students and genuinely cares about every student he has. Go to his office hours!!

Honestly a great professor, the class was overall challenging but Professor McGuff's personality made going worth it.

Dr. McGuff is probably my favourite professor so far. He really works with you and is so passionate about what he teaches. He goes off on tangents, but they're connected to the content and help make it easier to understand in real world scenarios. Very funny and kind. Lecture heavy but he explains everything well and answers so many questions.10/10

Dr. McGuff was an excellent professor for jumping into the world of Psych. Class was online asynchronous, however he was always there if you needed him and gave MANY extra credit opportunities. He is also super funny - overall a great professor.

McGuff was really caring and passionate towards not just the class, but the students as well. He was very enthusiastic and clearly showed that he knew a lot about the material and through life experience. He is a little snarky sometimes but is harmless and insincere. Very understanding and shows that he wants to help students as much as possible.
