Trig class was awful for the whole group. We all took one of his tests and no one got above a 58 on it. It may be a good class if you've seen trig before, but if you haven't encountered it-beware
I couldn't disagree more with the previous comment. Mr. RUSSELL Murray is a very organized teacher. His grading is fair and he returns tests/hw the next class period. His office door is always open and, in my experience, he was always willing to help.
Mr.Murry is the best teacher ever! Believe me if you really try hard you'll be the best one in his class, he is so helpful and kind and ready for any question(hard or easy), My recommand: always take your math classes with him, he is so knowlegable
An instructor who always had a smile on his face. Topics could get pretty hairy, but he was always ready to help answer my questions. Definitely a friendly instructor!
u are the Besttttttttttttt
I enjoyed his class... he dumbed things down so everyone understood the concept... Just do the homeowrk and ask questions if your lost hes more than willing to help......
Great teacher for Calc II. Gave notes in a fasion where he gives you the formula, proof, then does a few examples. Doesn't throw any curves on the tests. May get a little worked up if you don't know your trig identities like Sin[2x] so make sure you know those. ^_^
Absolutely the best math teacher around....I barely have a C, but I'm just an idiot...
Mr. Murray is the most wonderful teacher I have ever had.He explains very well the concepts, he is very organized and always helpful when you need him. He is cool, don't miss the opportunity to be his student.
He is the best teacher i have ever had. I got A on both calc I and II, and I am taking calc. III during the fall and I will definitely be in his class.
Calculus is a hard subject... however Mr.Murray made it easy to understand and he also was always willing to help you understand. Test were somewhat difficult but in the end its easy to pass his class if you do the work......
He is so nice and very helpful. He makes stupid jokes to make the class somewhat interesting. He is a very good teacher.
The sweetest math teacher you'll ever have. He is very clear in his instructions and if you're EVER in doubt, you won't have to worry about asking him for help. Great teacher!! :)
Mr. Murray crackes me up. He's so goofy and has the worst jokes in the entire world, but still manages to make class fun and he's really clear when he goes through the material. I wish I would have taken him for more of my math classes.
great teacher
This guy is funny and actually entertaining when it comes to teaching Calc III. People complain that he grades too hard and i think this might be true, but the actual test questions are so much easier than other teachers' that I think he has the right to grade a little harder. A C can be attained with no studying.
Mr Murray cracked me up, his jokes arent really that funny but the little sayings he has are just so dumb they're funny....he actually explains the info. to you instead of expecting you to read the book. He gives practice tests before each test so you know what to study for. Excellent teacher
Mr.Murray is so nice. But he is a really hard teacher. Ya better do all your homework in this class!
This is the second time ive had mr murray...he is truly one of the best math professors meramec has to offer. He puts things in terms that normal people can understand versus telling u to read the book. If you do the homework and keep up in the class its not impossible to pass this class with an A.
there's not alot of homework. some people in my class asked questions and he wouldnt help them with it bc he said they should already know that. which may have been true but i thought no question is a stupid question...ok class..bad teacher
Among the best math professors I've encountered! Explains things very clearly, takes great pains to grade everything promptly, tests are precisely reflective of material; always very helpful. Very funny in class, this helps keep it fun.
Great teacher! Doesn't say hi to you in the hallways though!
Mr. Murray is the best math teacher at meramec. He makes everything very clear and easy to understand.
Awesome awesome awesome teacher. So nice and always willing to help. I have a terrible time with math but he explains things so EVERYONE can understand it.
I would strongly recommend Professor Murray. Although the class is difficult, it is taught very well, and, it gets easier as the year goes on. The final is not particularly difficult and there are opportunities for extra credit! Study for tests and turn in homework and you will have no trouble!
He is great at explaining things.
You have to come to class, do homework, do homework, and more homework. It's hard at the beginning, but if you stick to it, it will be alright at the end.
College Algebra isn't impossible.
Great teacher! I loved his math jokes which were funny only to him!
I love him! He is such a nice teacher and really explains things well. Sometimes he drags on and get bored, but for sections which I don't understand he's great!! Highly recommended. Gives you study guides and the tests are 90% the same!
Was nice the first half of semester, then he started to not answer questions and go way to fast...made it almost impossible. I had him for both Intermediate and College, if you want someone that will keep your attention don't choose him, but he's a really nice guy
A teacher who's extremely interested in the subject of math. If you are a math nerd, he is a great teacher to have. But if you are just trying to get passed by in his class, it is virtually impossible. So be ready!
A great teacher. Gave a lot of examples. His test reflect the easier parts of the homework. His grading structure is designed nicely. If you do the homework you'll pass. A+++++...
Best teacher I have ever had. Made everything that didn't make sense some how make sense. He can be tough at times. Keep up with homework and do practice tests and you will do great.
Nice and willing to help students but can move a bit quickly in class.
Prof. Murray enjoys teaching. He is very enthusiastic, provides lots of examples, and is easy to understand. We did get a little behind and he had to hurry through a few things, but he is very willing to provide help if you need it.
You need to work hard from the first day, buy the study guide it helps a lot. Attend the class and take some notes. Mr Murry is a very nice person, and smart professor, he helped me to reschedule one test when I had a health issue, he is highly recommended. and fair with everyone.Moe
Murray was constantly rushing and gave little time to understand a concept before launching into an example. Class always ran over and the exams were far more difficult than anything on the homework, which it on it's own took 4+ hours to do per assignment. If you need to take calculus then I would recommend that you take it with another professor.
Professor Murray is way too fast! He rushes through everything and usually does not go into great detail on difficult concepts. His tests are the most difficult I have ever taken and usually have little to do with the homework assigned. He is not a bad teacher, but his teaching method is just too rushed.
He is really nice, but he teaches too fast. NO review before test!
Mr. Murray is the best math professor at Meramec! He explains things very well and is always willing to help his students. I'm awful at math, but did very well in his class. If you study his lecture notes than there is no reason for you not to do well in his class. He offers a lot of extra credit points which helps. Take his class!!!
Professor Murray is really nice and enjoys teaching students. however, he moves really fast with the lessons. And there is a lot of online homework. His tests are very simple though. And he offers a lot of extra credit points. But be prepared to be doing a lot of math at home. Don't fall behind. Overall, his teaching style just isn't my thing.
Murray is a nice personable guy. As an instructor, he's just an average joe. The MTH Dept. there at Meramec makes 210 a really hard class to pass the 1st time through. IMO, Murray is not the instructor to take if you haven't had any previous Calculus. He tends to pick the most challenging textbook ?s for tests, and goes over easier ?s in class.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend this teacher. He gave a huge packet of "notes" on the first day and these notes were only examples. When he would lecture he would just do the problem on the board without asking the students how to actually do them or if we had any questions. His classes are more of teach yourself to try and pass kind of class.
Professor Murray as a person is awesome. He's super nerdy (in a good way) and is super fun to have in class. He tells a lot of bad jokes, but he's a lot of fun. Just beware, he does not have students work on examples. He works them out himself and moves on. If you need to move slow, I recommend choosing someone else. He's super smart and can help.
Hands down one of the best teachers I've ever had. Follow his lecture notes, copy everything down, and you will have a step-by-step instruction manual for the assigned homework. Really nice guy, too.
He's a little soft spoken, but he is very detailed, writes neatly, and gives clear expectations.
Fantastic Prof. For a tough course, willing to work with students and spend time after class answering questions. Lots of opportunities for bonus questions. Tests are tough, but fair. Longest final I've ever taken (almost 3 hours). Would highly recommend, my only negative is he isn't teaching MTH220 next semester.
Mr. Murray does a great job of explaining the concepts of math clearly. He can sometime do the arithmetic fast, but he goes slow for the concepts. Mr. Murray is also very, very approachable to ask questions of. If you go to class and follow his notes, do the homework, and study the practice tests and final, you will be just fine. Take him!
Best professor ever! He gives extra credit which is wonderful because they are added to your test grade. I took this class with Honors, and I did pretty good. I recommend this professor 100%
Professor Murray was a decent professor. In MTH 160, there are 5 tests (20 ?s each) and one comprehensive final (25 ?s). There is a lot of online hw, but I did not use the online textbook. There is also written turn-in and daily in class hw. He is a generous partial-credit grader. His lectures consist of following his work on the projector.
Really great at lecture & explaining things thoroughly. Puts all of his notes online & provides study guides before every test. Hell round your grade up if you show up & do well.
Took him for Linear Algebra, great professor, a bit low energy, but no issues with him whatsoever. Definitely recommend. (Relatively) easy A, but YMMV
Mr. Murray is a great teacher and is super nice! he really tries to help you be successful by posting practice test questions on blackboard and will happily answer your questions and help you. His lectures correspond to the notes section you're in and the homework doesn't go well with the test but that's what the practice test questions are for.
great guy, definitely recommend, cool sense of humor and good way of teaching material
He is super good at explaining things slowly. Lectures can sometimes be boring but if you pay attention without getting super distracted, you should do well in the class. He has pre-written notes so thats really nice. Also has small quizzes at the end of every class so make sure you listen during class. Hes also funny.
He is the best math professor I've had in my life :) His lectures are so easy to follow with organized notes and handwriting. Easily helps to understand a difficult concept. He uses online math hw which is the only thing I didn't really like, but I'm willing to take any math course by this professor.
Professor Murray is a great math teacher. He has great lecture and helps explain things lowly. He posts notes and study guides online to help you be successful. He is very approachable to ask questions if needed. If you show up, takes notes, do the homework, and look over the study guides you will do just fine.
Hands down the best math teacher that I have ever had! The guy has a dry sense of humor but it extremely nice and funny at times if you catch the joke! He offers extra credit that can really help your grade! He does teach a little slower, even if you catch on fast you respect the fact that others may not and that he takes his time to explain! BEST!
Great professor, cares about his students and wants to help. You can tell he really enjoys math and he wants students to succeed. When students ask questions, he explains the answers clearly. Offers extra credit and is relatively chill. Definitely recommend him, great calc teacher.
Murray is great! He has fantastic lectures with clear and organized notes. His tests are straight forward and if you study and do homework you will do well; plus, he actually gave us study guides! He grades fair and gives partial credit. Also, he puts grades into blackboard quickly and responds to emails fast. He's one of the best profs at stlcc.
By far one of the best math teacher Ive had, and this is coming from someone who hates math. He will NOT disappoint at all! Hes very caring and hilarious, always cracking jokes to lighten up the mood. His method of teaching is thorough, and he explained everything clearly. If you want to pass, take his class. He teaches everything perfectly.
Murray is still my favorite teacher; he was so kind and cool. If you hate math, he will make it very bearable and if you have questions he's quick to help you out. The class was professional and clear, even online, and he's the best guy ever. I went on to have terrible math teachers after him, only take Murray's classes.
Professor Murray really enjoys doing math and is good at explaining things clearly. Even though Calc 2 can be a hard class for students, he gives bonus points and study guides for the tests. He makes jokes and tells you ut pretty much as it is. If you study for the tests and take notes then you would do well in this class.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had! Takes his time explaining concepts because he understands what areas may confusing for students. Very easy going and understanding, uploads finished notes from class on Canvas, and provides practice quizzes for tests. Really wants his students to succeed! Couldn't recommend him more! :)
Professor Murray was always very organized and prepared for class. While he taught me calculus, I learned a lot about trig and algebra, as well. He always explained where things came from and why certain techniques worked. The tests are similar to the homework, and the final is a combination of all of the tests.
Murray is a great math instructor. He talks very soft which makes it hard to hear him from time to time but overall is a good coach. He drops some funny lines in with his teaching which makes both himself and the class chuckle. He goes through the material well instead of flying from unit to unit. A nice dude who wants the best for his students
I took Math 160S, and Professor Murray was a super helpful professor. He goes through the material clearly and at a fairly slow pace to get points across. He's pretty soft spoken, but very patient and kind with students. There is online homework, but that is the only "textbook" part of the class, and overall there isn't much homework at all.
Really great teacher! Deep explanation of theorems and exercises. If you want to really learn differential equations , enroll in his classes!
Professor Murray is not a bad professor. He is very kind and humorous. My issue with him is that he never interacted with the class. For some students this is a plus, but for me, interaction is very important for learning the material. His lectures might as well be YouTube videos that you cannot interact with.
Prof Murray was a good intro to college math. Math is my hardest subject and I still slipped by w a 87%. Weekly online hw, occasional hand-in hw, four unit tests, and one cumulative final. His teaching is lecture heavy and note based. Very quick to respond to emails and super understanding when issues arise. :)
I was nervous going into calc 2, but I took Dr. Murray's calc 2 class during the Spring semester and he's awesome! He gives test study guides so make sure to use them, and he's extremely helpful during office hours. I had a medical emergency mid-semester and had to get surgery done, and Dr. Murray was ready to help me. Murray is a great professor!
actually made me enjoy math! was super understanding with availability issues, difficulties with the online homework, and score adjustments.was eager to help when questions were asked. the lectures were easy to follow and there was little in class work. teaches with a very admirable passion for his work. one of the best professors I've had.
Super nice guy with a lax class environment. Very straight forward, he lectures, you do the notes and homework, and the occasional test! Enjoyed that he was light-hearted and kind.
His syllabus is not detailed at all and he just assumes that we think the same as him. He doesn't take anyone else's points into consideration. Also, his lectures are not interactive whatsoever. Don't take him.
Professor Murray is a friendly and funny guy, he's willing to help and make sure you do well in his class. He sometimes speeds through lectures but I would take his classes again. Do well on the exams and the online homework and you'll be just fine.
The professor was hard to understand, he continuously made mistakes both on the homework's and in the notes. He's friendly but very hard to understand sometimes and just straight up frustrating. Just check over all your grading and bring it to him, you never know you could be failing his class because of several mistakes he's made.
Professor Murray is a great professor for this class. If I misunderstood something, he would explain in more detail to make sure I had it. Work was tough, but what do you expect for Calc 1.
I guarantee you half of these reviews are fake. Murray is a teacher with a superiority complex and an inflated ego. He has unrealistic expectations for your class and if you ask a question he'll give you attitude and will give a half incomplete answer
He's not a bad teacher, but not the best either. He grades harshly and takes off points wherever he can. He starts new material before finishing the current test, which makes things confusing. I learned most of the class through tutoring, which killed my motivation to even go. Take the class only if you absolutely have to.
Avoid this class if you actually want to learn. He solves everything very fast and never gives you the chance to try problems out yourself. I ended up teaching myself through YouTube videos for most of the year. He makes concepts more confusing than they need to be. I genuinely think the good reviews are because he's nice.
Amazing proffesor, class is test heavy.
I liked his class and he helped me understand many concepts. For the occasional tests, he gives out study guides that helped me a lot, and he hands out packets when it comes to notes in class. There is online homework that must be done as well, but overall I liked his class and I would recommend it!
took me forever to get this class done but he is my goat
