by far the best math teacher i have ever had. understands what it takes to teach math and does not expect that everyone that is taking it wants to learn it. some how manages to synthesize teaching and learning, not easily done.

Russ is a great teacher. Things seem slow at times but it picks up.

I can see how Sherif would be a great teacher for people who aren't majoring in a science, however, if you really want to understand the material in-depth you should take someone else.

If you're a student who really struggles with math, take him. He's really easy and awesome! The grade is only based off of 4 tests but they are very easy. He's also really nice and understanding. He will help you understand the material.

He is such an INCREDIBLE math prof! He explained everything completely and full (sometimes spending several days on a single concept). While this at times could be boring, it was really great for the people in the class who didn't understand. He really took the time to make sure EVERYONE knew what was going on ... kind of a "leave no one behind" approach to teaching. A very likeable guy.

The best math teacher at Whatcom! Honestly! He emphazises the important points, and takes the time to teach step by step. The 4 relatively short tests on essentials assure more instructional time, so Rus never gets in a hurry or up-tight. Pre-tests help you prepare and reduce anxiety.

4 test, not-mandatory attendance, and a clear review of previous day as well as daily material--allows for sporatic attendance. best math class i've taken. I attend 1 out of 3 days and have a 98% average. whether you need more help or less, this class is the best!

Sherif is honestly the BEST math teacher I have ever had. He will explain the material over and over again to make sure you fully understand. He outs out a practice test which is very similiar to the test. I highly recommend this guy!

Great instructor, I will be trying to work him into my schedule as a math teacher as long as I'm at Whatcom. Somtimes goes a little slow, but thats great if your the one having trouble on a particular section.

I absolutly love Sheriff. He is the best Math Professor i have ever had! He is AMAZ-ZA-ZING by far! He explains everything to a T, he may be a bit repetitive and methodical, but it is worth it. I have never gotten lower than 100% on his exams...Great Professor!

He is so thorough it is almost boring. Fortunately you could attend class just a couple times/week and still secure an A. There's no hw and the review sheets are exactly like the test. If you make sure you know all the concepts from the review you will do great on tests. I got a 102% in both the classes I took from him!!! I love him.

Take Russel if you want an EASY A in math 99. He is so easy that you could attend 2-3 days out of the 5 days of class and still manage a 100% in his class. He does a test review the day before the exam and the review is almost identical to the actual exam so if you understand the review, you will get a 100 on the exam.

Russell is AMAZING!! I am a self-proclaimed math phobic, but I've had him for the last 3 quarters and have aced his class. He is more intent on making sure you, basically, understand the material, then trying to stump you with questions on exams. This is my last quarter in math and I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Russ is GREAT!! I had a complete buffoon for math 98, and am so happy to have such a great teacher for 99. I planned my schedule around when he's teaching math 130. I know I would have struggled if it weren't for him. He is awesome. And hot!

THE BEST!!!! No wonder his classes fill up so fast. He knows his stuff, and he makes sure everyone in the class understands the material. Take this guy if you want to do well in math, and maybe even come to like it.

He's really nice and he's extremely helpful. he wants you to pass and there is no reason not to, his door is always open and he has no problem working with your schedule if you cannot show up to class for any reason. i had a family emergency and i still got an A. HE'S WILLING TO WORK WITH HIS STUDENTS!

Sherif is the BEST math teacher I've ever had. Math has always been hard and the teachers have always been mean, but he is AMAZING. Optional homework & attendance, but he is SO help, kind and friendly! He's really funny, too. DEFINITELY take for math!

I work full-time 8:30-5:00. Russel's Pre-calc was the perfect class to take with my busy schedule. He taught everything so well in class that you don't walk out confused or have to spend late hours on your own figuring out the lessons. If only college were filled with more professors as competent as Sherif!

I hated math with a passion and did not get it at all before this class. HE IS AWESOME!!! Math actually makes sense now. Seriously BEST math teacher you will ever have.

Best math teacher EVER! He gives you practice test almost exactly the same as the test and doesn't grade homework I took 98 and 130 from him and never did any homework except the practice test. I averaged 99/100. He has lots of fun sayings like "It doesn't matter how you slice and dice it" I highly HIGHLY recommend him!

He is a GREAT teacher. He used to be an engineer so he is VERY smart. He told me he could "teach a monkey" if he needed to. He is by far the most organized and clear teacher you will ever get. There is no CHANCE you will fail! He is so kind and helpful - a very fun class.

An EXCELLENT instructor. I was able to do all the homework problems without reading the book as he covers everything in class and makes sure you understand the material. If math isn't your subject take it from him and you will be surprised at how easy it really is. I wish I would have had him for the class prior, but I've got him for 130 now.

This proff rocks! He bends over backwards for his students, is very clear, is approachable, and there are no surprises on his tests. Wonderful and very likeable guy. I highly recommend him. This is my third class with him. I am actually sad that I won't be able to take Calc 2 with him this fall.

Excellent Teacher. There is a comment that says he is bad teacher. LIES!!!! Sherif is the best, most excellent, greatest teacher of all times. He actually helps his students, his practice tests are very helpful and his lectures are very, very comprehendable. Trust me 150% absolutely sure he is the greatest.

By the way, that comment about he is not a good teacher, im pretty sure its because that student just does study and wants easy A. News flash buddy, you have to study to earn it. Calculus is tough, tough class and Sherif helped all his students to get excellent grades.

I didn't like math before Russel's class. I took him for 99 and 130 and I loved it. He made it so simple. Just copy his notes off the board and do a few problems out of the book to let it sink in and you're golden! I highly reccomend him to anyone.

Sherif is a really great teacher. He teaches a little too slow for my taste but it's nice because he wants everyone to understand it. I would really recommend taking him. He doesn't mess around and put answers on tests that we haven't covered. Much of the tests are nearly exactly the same as the review, maybe just one number different.

He is the best teacher anyone could possible ever have! Take any of his classes! Not only is he "easy", but he throughly teaches the material. I got 100% on every test PLUS all the extra credit. I ended up getting like a 103% in his class. He's awesome!

This guy is great. He takes the material _very_ slowly which got frustrating after a while, but goshdarnit the material stuck and he's extremely nice. He speaks in kind of a Ben Stein drone is really the only thing I can bring against him.

Russel is an awesome math instructor. He's very clear in giving directions for applications w/ algebra & he gives you several ways to do the same math problem. If you had any kind of difficulty understanding something, he'll take the time to meet with you after class & help you. Also helps arrange to take tests quietly if you've anxiety.

There is nothing bad I can say about Russ. He is a wonderful teacher, I am actually a bit bummed that I am done with math! He is willing to do anything to help you pass his class. You can't go wrong with him, all 3 classes I took with him I passed with over 100's and I don't like math all that much! Take him and you will never regret it!!

He is a extremely clear and concise teacher. Very much into explaining things methodically. If you have trouble with math, he is the perfect instructor for you. If math comes easily for you, he might seem boring because he explains everything slowly in great detail.

PreCalculas made easy. Grading from exams (4 during 12 weeks) only. I received a 409 out of 400 because of bonus question opportunities. Barely used textbook, almost not worth buying because its available at library. Attend every class so you don't miss anything, this is CRUCIAL to getting the information required. LOTS of rote in the beginning.

I absolutely HATE math with a passion. I needed to take it to get into WWU. I LOVED showing up for class everyday and understanding math for the first time in my life. I got an A, YOU MUST COME TO CLASS He made difficult concepts crystal clear . I can's speak highly enough of him. All I know is pre-calculus doesn't seem as scary anymore :)

Absolutely loved the class... The best prof to take calc with. He makes math understandable for everyone. In our class on the exams the class got from 94 to 103% on all exams. No one got any lower because he was always so clear. If u need math, take it with him. U will not regret it. Awesome class and prof.

HE IS AMAZING! like everyone else has said on here, he is so so helpful! Easy to talk to, clear on the concepts of math problems. And he is EXTREMELY conscious and considerate of his students! he doesn't try to rush us on getting or grasping a concept. I would advise anyone! ANYONE to take him for math. one word= AMAZING. Honestly just, amazing.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: I have Rus through the Engineering series. He's the most methodical teacher I've had, and he is there for the students first. I hated how slow he goes through the material, but everyone else finds it helpful. Students would have to work to not learn the material and not pass the class. Easy, if drawn-out, and a great person.

I will never, ever have a better math teacher. Ever. I have literally never gotten an A in a single math class in my life and I fully remember everything that I learned from the notes in class (except for completing the square, but I just didn't understand that). Mr. Sherif was one of the nicest people I have ever met, much less had as a teacher. He was very good at making sure EVERYONE understood the material. He was concerned with making sure you did well. He wanted you to pass. I was very impressed by his teaching methods as well. He was clear, and didn't teach from the text book.

Russel is the man! He is clear and calm. He is willing to help you with anything, he is always respectful to his students and gives great lectures! I have always had a bit of anxiety when it comes to math-he is really good at alleviating that anxiety. Take his class if you get the opportunity! You will not be disappointed.

Completely free of any pretensions, unlike many instructors that simply tell you what to do and nothing more. He's skilled to the point where he can make up perfect practice problems on the fly instead of just forcing the book to fit the situation. He's also very modest and blushes noticeably when someone mentions how good his ratings are on here.

Russel is extremely smart at math but he doesn't let that get in the way of explaining things so that EVERYBODY can understand. I was SO SCARED to take math but I feel confident and ready to go on to other math and science classes.

Wow. Best teacher at WCC. Highly recommended. I was never confident in math and now i love math. I got a 98/100 on the math 141 final. I thought I was dreaming.

Tried taking Precal with Quinlan (who if you don't know, is also an excellent teacher) and had to drop it because I was doing so poorly. Took it with Russel the next quarter, got an A, and even got 100% on the final. Nuff said.

Russel makes Calculus incredibly easy. I've only been in the class for 3 weeks and am taking 17 credits this quarter but my stress level is significantly diminished because this class is a breeze. He has an engineering background and often points out real world applications, which makes Calculus more fascinating. Take his class and you'll love math

Amazing professor! Took him for an online class (Math&141) after taking him earlier for Math 098. His teaching is crystal clear and he is very helpful. Lets you use 1 sheet of notes for the midterm and the final for Math & 141. The best professor I have ever had! If you are struggling in math, he is definitely the one to take!

This was the very first online math class I have ever taken and it was an amazing experience. I felt like I was able to understand everything and the expectations for what was going to be on the test was super clear. We were given study guides for the midterms which helped a lot. I felt like the tests were extremely fair and I was very prepared. :)

Russ is the Master of the Game! There's good reason he's the TOP RATED PROFESSOR! He can explain Calculus (foreign language) in such a way that it's easy to understand! First online math class was pre-calc 1 and the first A i ever got in math. We only saw him at the midterm and the final and most of his videos were from other people teaching on you tube. Super easy class and a great guy. I wish that I had taken him in person and will if I ever get the chance.

Really enjoyed his class! He writes pretty much everything on the board and makes sure to asks students before he erases it. Does a lot of review and does his best to be really thorough. He might be a little boring if you get the hang of things easily, but he definitely wants to be sure everyone understands. Hoping to take one of his classes again!

This guy is #1 in my opinion. His teaching method and notes are so clear that I didn't even have to crack the book open, yet I feel like I understand and remember everything from the class, and I am not a "math minded" person. If every instructor was like Russell, we'd have a nation full of well educated, successful people. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

Russ is a very thorough teacher. If you miss a day he goes over what was done the previous day at the start of class. Participation and attendance were not mandatory for this class which sucked because people would text all through class or only show up for test days. But he gave extra credit questions for those of us who showed up daily.

His lectures are interesting and engaging. If anyone struggles with math take a class with Russ. He will make sure you understand foundation concepts before moving on. On one test that was taking me over the test time he allowed me to stay as long as I needed even though he had a meeting. I have over 100% in the class b/c of the extra credit

I usually struggle in math, but did well in Sheriffs class. His lectures are easy to understand, and he knows what math anxiety/test anxiety is like and tries to reduce that by not surprising you on the tests. Also he kind of reminds me of bill nye the science guy. In a good way.

Took this class online, pretty easy and standard stuff. 1 practice quiz and 1 timed quiz a week. You get to communicate with your class through forums. I would take again. this class made learning and understanding math 10x easier. You can buy the textbook, but personally I didn't need it.

The best math teacher ever! Im so sad I won't be having him again next quarter. His teaching style is so clear, and easy to understand. He gives out practice tests that are identical to the real tests (there are 4 and they're 100% of your grade) Overall just a genuine, kind person as well. Always available for help. Take his class!!

Professor Sheriff is a great teacher. He is very easy going with students. If you have any problems, just email him and everything will be solved. The review papers are always the same as the final and midterm exams. Just make sure that you catch up with the lesson and everything turn out very well.

Russel is amazing at teaching math. He keeps it simple, clear, and he's incredibly thorough. He makes concepts super easy to understand. He only grades tests, which he makes really good practice tests for, so everything is predictable. Highly recommend!

Practice and graded quizzes each week. One midterm and final which are almost identical to the practice midterm/final he gives. Textbook helps a lot with understanding the material. Overall, great class and fairly easy.

Russel is the frickin bomb. He has no qualms about being direct in what he expects from the class, but is extremely organized in his setting up of the board, teaching style, consistency. He is extremely helpful during tests, seems to grade generously if he can see how hard you're trying. Make effort, he will go beyond for you!!

I took Precalculus I online, so I was mostly teaching myself. He doesn't record his own lectures, but rather posts videos from YouTube for you to watch. They do a good job of covering everything, but I often had to find more on my own, which was frustrating. His quizzes are a very easy, and the midterm and final were also a breeze. Easy class.

Russel is a great math teacher. His lectures are methodical, he lays out his criteria very clearly, and he makes sure to go through each new subject thoroughly. Homework he advises is important to stay on top of for understand the material, but it is not required to turn in. He uses the textbook homework material to lay out exam problems.

russel is amazing! ive hated math forever, and now i finally enjoy it, because i understand it. he goes through each topic very thoroughly and is considerate to students. definitely will be taking him again for other math classes!!

Russel is an amazing professor and I cannot stress this enough! I took Math 99 previously with another professor and had failed that course due to the teachers lack of teaching. Needed to take it again and decided to take it with Russel and I literally understood everything that was going on and it was a lot easier. The best teacher ever.

Russ is AMAZING! By far the best professor I have had at Whatcom. His lectures are so clear and organized, and he is always willing to take the time to explain if you are confused. He made math a breeze; super fair grading too. He didnt grade on attendance, just 4 tests and averaged the score. 100% recommend taking his class!!

Russell is by far the Greatest teacher I have ever had. I took him initially for Math 98 and insisted on having him again for Math 99. I have always had a difficult time understanding algebra and this was the first time in my life that someone was able to explain it in a way that I was able to understand. He doesn't grade Thank You Russ!!!!!!!

This professor is extremely intelligent; an engineer. Has ability to teach in a linear , succinct way ! He is super caring, thinks outside of the �� box, makes complex problems understandable to most people and the layman! he teaches both online and in person I took both and he is a rockstar all the way upwwrdcin Math. He will guide you through

The ideal professor. Cuts absolutely zero corners when it comes to teaching. Even if some students could teach the lecture themselves, he makes it absolutely certain each step is shown no matter how insignificant. You could wander into his class knowing nothing, and be on the same page as everyone else within minutes. Would take again, 12/10.

Great guy, better professor. Russ is easily the best professor I've had at Whatcom. He cares about his students and you can tell he wants you to succeed. He has turned me from hating math to loving it. Very clear lectures but feel free to ask questions.

I would take this class again if i had to do it all over again. Great enthusiasm and caricature second teacher this year that i respect and will seek to have a again.

He helps in anyway that he can. He graduated from an Ivy League which is truly inspirational. I took this online and he chose great videos to teach us with. He is a really good teacher, a real gem.

A very kind professor! I took his online class so I only met him 2 times (midterm & final). I'd definitely recommend his online math class bc it's very straightforward & the workload is light. There's homework but it's not graded, & the study guides he provides are VERY helpful (definitely do them!) Overall, a good summer class experience for me

First off let me start by saying Russ is a great teacher. Ive know taken one in person and online class with him. The in person class will be MUCH BETTER, because he ALMOST NEVER RESPONDS to his online students. Not sure why but its pretty ridiculous to teach an online class if you cant even be accessible to your students.

Mr. Sherif is an excellent teacher! You can tell he really cares about his students and will always go the extra mile to ensure you succeed. There are no surprises throughout this course so, as long as you are motivated and complete your work on time you will have no problem succeeding in this course. Wish I couldve taken all math classes with him

There's a reason Sherif is the top rated professor at WCC - he is really that good. If you struggle with math (in any of the ones he teaches) take him, it will all make sense by the end of the quarter. I would have to say though that his online courses aren't any diff than the next professor though. Highly recommend in-person.

Professor Sherif was amazing! The online program he uses for his Math 98 course was easy to understand and navigate, and he was always there to help with any questions. I hope I can take more of his classes in the future.

The class was pretty easy, the only thing that was graded was a weekly forum, a practice quiz(which you get unlimited tries), and a timed quiz. I didn't start doing the work until the last two weeks of the quarter and most assignments were past due by then, I talked to Prof. Sherif and he extended due dates for the whole class.

THE best math professor!

This class was a good experience. I was in a class with no set meet times so you basically do your work submit something to the forum and then you're good for the week. He was helpful with any questions but you mostly rely on the other students to help with questions. Overall not a bad experience, and probably would take a class with him again.

This was an amazing class that depended on little grading, but I feel I learned quite a lot. Three assignments each week, two being tests, one practice and one timed, but each have question checks so you know if you got it right or not. Homework is optional, and he was very clear in everything. Amazing class! Take him if you can!

online class and I was struggling at first as the homework seemed out of this world difficult and the online videos that were given were hard to understand. He offered in person Q&A Sessions once a week regarding the material which I found to be amazing. He is an amazing lecturer. I went from knowing nothing to understanding the material in an hour

The professor does a great job setting and meeting expectations. In the calculus 151 online class the information was easily accessible and very easy to learn. The best part is that there was absolutely no 'busy work' besides the optional homework assignments.

Russ is truly dedicated to his students, and often does weekly lectures for several hours during his office hours, reviewing quizzes and introducing the weeks concepts. Weekly quizzes and tests are the same information, so you never go back on old concepts to review which was easy but I didn't feel like I reinforced much of the information.

I took precalculus 1 as an online course with him. Homework is optional, but do at least some of it if you want to pass. Forum posts due every week, one practice quiz due every week followed by a timed quiz. I recommend taking notes on the practice quiz questions and using them on timed quizzes. Good class, not too much work.

This guy is the goat. He explains concepts and ideas simply. The practice tests reflected the actual tests. The grade is dependent on four tests, but was ready for all of them.

He's a great teacher and gives feedback if asked. Each week there is material to watch (youtube) and some homework but you don't turn it in so you don't have to do it. Uses an online site called Wamap for everything. Multiple choices each week and then reply to a forum. Expect the same layout every week and it's an easy A. NO FINALS
