He is awesome! Take him for economics. If you show up to class he gives extra credit a lot, class isn't mandatory. He is hilarious and easy to listen to. His tests come straight from his notes he writes in class. Show up and study a bit, and you'll be just fine. Definitely take him!
He is THE BEST teacher for econ. He is so funny, I think this is his first semester here at Auburn, and he is doing a great job. Take this class for your Econ requirement and you will get an easy A or B. tons of extra credit quizzes online and in class for attending. so go to class, theres always points!
you get extra credit for coming to class through attendance quizzes, really fun teacher definitely recommend makes a topic that can be boring very interesting
Super chill guy and very easy to ask for help. Lectures are enjoyable and if you come to class itll really help your grade with his attendance quizzes.
He is very cool and relates to his students well.
he made class interesting! i hate econ and didn't mind going to his class! im not very smart so i have a B but probably would have a C with another teacher. just go to class and study before the tests and you will do fine.
He was such a great and relatable teacher. Gives opportunities for extra credit all the time. Only thing is that he does not post notes so you need to be there to take them! Really funny and makes it interesting to be in class.
If you need to take ECON 2030, you have to do it with Spears. He is a great teacher. I hate Econ and I actually enjoyed going to his class. I was hardly ever confused about anything, but if I was, he was available for office hours. It is lecture based, but the lectures are entertaining, so just show up and you can easily get a B.
Not to hard of a class if you go to it and listen to his lectures. Everything you need to know for the test is discussed in the lectures. Attendance isn't necessary but there are attendance quizzes about once a week that is important for your grade. Grades are only attendance quizzes and 4 tests. He's a cool a guy and pretty understanding.
To succeed you must show up to class and actively participate and take notes. Fortunately, unlike most lecture classes Dr. Spears' classes are interesting and he keeps everyone engaged. I legitimately enjoyed showing up to class each day.
Prof. Spears is a very likable guy. He is pretty funny and keeps class interesting. He has a lot of attendance quizzes, which is very helpful to your grade if you regularly go to class. Overall a very good professor.
This class was amazing! Russell is hilarious and genuine. He teaches the material so clearly. His tests were definitely semi-difficult, so make sure you study.
Mr. Spears is a great professor that does a great job of explaining economics and being able to provide real-world examples. He incorporates the concepts with real-world examples which provides another look into economics and makes the class exciting and fun. Go to class because the class is based on his lectures, and he has participation quizzes.
Take Professor Spears. I took his class in the Summer and it was incredibly easy. If you show up to class and try on the tests you will make an A. He curved our tests by 10+ points every time. Very understanding and kind. Best Econ professor I've had yet!
Cool dude. Made class enjoyable. Lectures were easy to understand and the tests were straight from the lectures. He mentioned the book but you dont need it if you go to class. Easy B. If you want an A then go to every class, take note of everything he writes on the board, and ask questions if you dont understand.
He's so funny and keeps lectures super fun and interesting. Made me love econ. Highly suggest actually going to class though, especially since he gives so many participation quizzes.
he keeps class interesting and fun, overall an awesome teacher. come to class because the participation quizzes are easy points. tests are straight from the lectures but can be somewhat difficult.
hes hilarious and knows what hes talking about
Really great professor who makes it clear what is going to be on the test. Test are super easy if you come to class, and curves all tests. Super hilarious and his emails will make you laugh. I would take again if I could
His lectures are interesting and he is a hilarious professor who is pretty entertaining. He doesn't keep you for more than an hour, but make sure to come to class for participation points and because tests are solely based on his lectures. He basically gives you what you need to know for the tests though. I would take his class again.
This dude rocks. He is a really funny guy which makes going to lecture worthwhile, and all of his tests are based on what he talks about in class. There is no textbook or homework; but he gives quizzes for attendance randomly. Because his exams are based off his lectures, he does make it very clear what he will be testing you on. He does curve too.
Best professor Ive ever had!!!! So hilarious and very attractive. He also gives a ton of extra credit!!!
The best econ teacher ive ever had!!!! Youre making a mistake if you dont take him. So funny and nice. Go to class and take the quizzes which he gives you the answer to.
Professor Spears is hands down one of the best professors I have taken at Auburn!! I enjoyed his class so much that I am taking his microeconomics class next semester! I am horrible at economics but he made class so enjoyable and easy to understand!
If you have to take economics, I highly recommend Professor Spears! His office hours are so helpful if you're confused about anything. Lectures were great and easy to understand, but if you want to pass, definitely attend class because he doesn't have a textbook and gives attendance extra credit!
I did not deny he is good. His exam is lecture-based, not textbook-based, which means every exam question is momtioned in class not textbook. For have a good grade, you need to come every class and carefully take note. Consider third before taking his class and this is my most unbaised common to his class.
TAKE HIM!! He is hilarious and is super helpful in his office hours. He gives so much extra credit for just showing up to class and it brings your grade up so much. His tests can be hard, but show up to class and the extra credit will get you at least a B.
Amazing
Great professor. All of his lectures are entertaining and the tests are easy if you study at all. I would highly suggest taking his course.
He's one of the best professors at Auburn. Whether you care about ECON or not he teaches real life examples and makes it very enjoyable. Cares about the students and wants you to get an A.
I love this man! He is so nice and the class is super easy. Go to the lectures because there is no textbook and you will usually get 5 bonus points a class for going. His lectures are actually interesting, and he lets you out early. He is super accessible outside of class for extra help. He scales his test too. 10/10 recommend.
Spears is an amazing professor, and knows how to keep the class engaged. Just show up to class and you should do well. Tests are on the tougher side though, so you will need to prepare well for them. Amazing professor!
Hands down my favorite teacher out of my whole entire education. Curves tests fairly, isn't trying to screw anyone over. Pretty understanding guy, doesn't give homework and stress you out with work. Simply just go to the lectures, they are actually very interesting and thorough (take good notes). Study a little for the test
Prof Spears is THE MAN! He offers extra credit many classes. Super down to earth and maybe the funniest teacher I've had in all of schooling. Lectures are hilarious and he has so much economic experience and he keeps you so engaged, you end up learning a ton. Take this class if you get the chance. This guy must be protected at all costs.
TAKE THIS MAN. Literally loved this class, and will also be taking him for Macro. Super funny, chill guy that cares about students. He gives freebie quizzes in class to track attendance. Tests can be tricky, but he scales. Had him during COVID-19 shutdown, and he did his best to make it as painless possible. LOVE HIM & love going to his class!
Don't take Spears. Although his class is hilarious it's not worth it. He shows up to class late and then takes another 5 minutes to figure out what in the world he is doing. He is very moody and has no patience. His emails are rude and insensitive. His lectures are easy to understand but his exams are tough. He is a 30-year-old man stuck in college
Definitely study and take good notes. His test questions are similar to in class examples. Gives room for Extra Credit. LOVE going to class, this man is so entertaining.
one of my fav profs at auburn!! there's no homework outside of class and he gives solid curves on the tests, so if you just make sure to go to class and pay attention/take good notes you'll be fine if you study a bit! and his lectures are always super funny and engaging so its not hard at all to pay attention. take spears!!
Class lectures are always super entertaining and funny but make sure to take good notes because tests can sometimes get a little confusing but he always curves it. Quizzes are easy give me points just for showing up to class. Usually ends class 15 mins early and makes jokes throughout the class to keep everyone's attention. Study and it's an easy A
Dr. Spears was my favorite professor this semester. His grading consisted of the tests and the in class quizzes. If you go to class and listen to the lectures you can get an A easily. He's so funny and it's easy to ask him questions when you're confused either in his office hours or after the lecture. 100% would take again.
Although it's our second day of online class for the 5 week Money and Banking summer class , I am content enough to say that Mr. Spears is the best professor at Auburn and you should take him if you get the chance. He is a total bro and gives very digestible lectures. Hilarious and relatable.
He is often late to class ( even though it's online). His lectures are clear and easy to understand but his tests are much harder than what he teaches. Also, reaching out to him for help on concepts you didn't understand won't go well. I reached out to him once to ask for help and he said "lol".
The content was easy and that made tests bearable but he never seemed to really care about the students. I reached out multiple times and never got a response. If you don't show up to class you won't know what is going on.
Professor Spears had one lecture recording and one zoom weekly. His class is fairly easy but if you're like me and like more of a structured class I would recommend another professor. His lecture style is very unstructured and his notes are all over the place and sometimes hard to read.
Chill guy who makes learning economics easy. Things you learn in this class are things you will use in real/everyday life.
spears is a great guy. he cares about his students, helps out when you reach out, & makes sure his class is enjoyable. i highly recommend taking him for macro because he makes a terrible subject actually fun to learn. he responds super quick & his tests are based solely on his lectures. easy A if you show up & take notes! all tests open notes too!!
Spears is my favorite professor I've had in college. He makes economics fun and makes it easy to keep up with the course. Extra credit is given and he gives extra financial advice every college student needs to hear. 10/10 would recommend
Professor Spears is probably the greatest professor I've had during my time at Auburn and I'm not counting on having anyone better. There is a reason his class is hard to get into. If possible, wait to take macroeconomics until you can have him. You could probably get an A or B in another class but being taught by Russ is just a unique experience.
This guy is awful - confused, disorganized and rude. Do no take his class, especially, if you are an econ major. You won't learn anything in his class.
Absolute best macroeconomics teacher, if you watch his lectures you will make an A
He is a very chill teacher but almost too chill that he does not really put in the effort to teach. I would not take him if you really want to understand and get a good grade. I was lucky to get an A.
I really enjoyed Dr. Spears ECON 3200 course. The lectures were very laid back and conversational. He also was very clear during lectures about what material would be on the test and even offered examples and a reminder to take notes at important points. Fair tests. Would take again!
Professor Spears is a great professor. His lectures are very interesting and funny. He doesn't make you come to class but if you want to do good on the tests you should. This semester I had him for Money and Banking online but I also took him for Macro in person which was great too. In person sometimes he would have easy quizzes to help your grade.
The exams are lecture based so just come to class and youll be fine. Also offered quizzes to help boost your grade and the stock market project was fun and easy. Definitely recommend this class if youve taken him for micro or macro!
Very nice professor! Exams tend to be more difficult, but overall an enjoyable class.
Professor Spears is very laid-backed, but hes not gonna hold your hand. Show up, listen, and take notes and odds are you may not even need to do much studying for the tests. Dont buy the textbook, and dont skip class unless you can get the notes for that day. He genuinely wants students to do well.
This class was one of the few that I enjoyed going to the lectures. I feel like he is really able to convey the material in a way that is easy to understand and is practical at the same time. He even took the time to help me prepare for an interview totally unrelated to the class. Best professor at Auburn, hands down.
I will never take an econ class ever again as it's not required by my major. However, because of this professor, that's kind of a shame. He taught economics in a way that someone who knows nothing about it can understand, and he was always super friendly and even funny sometimes. Big respect to the guy.
Very good and kind teacher. Wants students to do well and will give them opportunities to do so. He is funny in his lectures which I recommend you go to because quizzes cover what he covers.
Spears is really good at breaking down the material so that it's pretty easy to learn. I was really scared to take this class especially in a mini semester but it wasn't too bad in the end. Make sure you go to class because the quizzes are based off lectures :).
Dr. Spears is a great professor because he makes class fun and interesting which many professors fail to do nowadays. He is extremely understanding when things come up such as being sick and is always willing to work with you. If you show up to class and pay attention (which his classes are so fun you'll want to) you'll have no problem getting an A
I enjoyed Dr. Spears' class quite a bit. It was interesting and informative. However, having it online made the class more unpleasant than it should have been. As long as your note taking ability is average, you should do fine in this course. However, an unsolicited piece of advice that I would give is avoid ANY AND ALL online courses. Trust me.
He's a great teacher and I would definitely take him again for Econ. Very Chill Guy.
Overall Dr. Spears made the class fun and interesting! Would definitely take again!
Dr. Spears is an interesting person, there is no tedious homework, and the weekly test questions are also based on lectures. I highly recommend this course!
Great teacher. Very personable and genuinely wants you to succeed.
Professor Spears is a great teacher. As long as you attend the lectures and take good notes you will be in good shape. He makes money and banking interesting to learn about and is very approachable!
He was a good professor and I would take him again! You need to attend class because he doesn't post his lectures though. 10/10
I loved taking Dr. Spears! He made this class enjoyable and easy to understand!
It was an absolute pleasure to be in Professor Spears' class. Every time I sent him a question by email I always received a response in a timely manner. Hosted great zoom meetings, and had even better pre recorded lectures that we could rewatch I'm from the college of agriculture and he made his lectures relevant and engaging for a student like me.
Prof Spears makes learning economics interesting, showing up to lecture is a must and he does not fill your days with busy work. Great professor and would absolutely take another one of his classes.
Prof. Spears is a great dude really made the class enjoyable if every prof was like him the world would be better place if you get the chance defiantly take his class.
Mr. Spears would be my recommendation if you're taking this class. He's got a laid-back personality and makes it easy for the student to understand. As long as you show up, you'll be fine in his class.
Great professor, probably one of the most straight to the point you could possibly get. He makes classes easy and very clear to understand. Nevertheless, if you miss one class u'll need to catch up or the rest of the week will be nonsense. Try to take notes and don't hesitate to ask anything.
Dr. Spears made this class enjoyable and easy to understand!
I think this teacher is very good and students can be easier to get an A for this course.
Spears was an awesome professor and you can tell he knows what he's talking about. He brings a lot of professional experience to the classroom discussions and his laid back attitude is very refreshing. Take Russ if you can. #cheerstospears
Great professor! He has his own teaching style which is fun for the class! Try to come to every classes, its worth to study from him!
It very good professor
Dr. Spears is a great teacher. He gives plenty of lectures and information and is a really cool dude to top it off. I would definitely recommend his Micro class and look forward to his Macro class in the fall.
All of my Economic teachers have been super laid back and good to take classes from and Dr. Spears is no exception. His lectures were great and really easy to understand. Just make sure you come to class and pay attention and you'll be just fine.
I had to take this class bc I unfortunately didnt pass the AP exam, but Spears taught the material wayyy better than my high school teacher, and I feel that I actually get it now. Hes the most laidback, chill guy Ive met in my life (very Fillmore from Cars energy with Owen Wilsons voice lmao). Overall, I actually enjoyed it bc he isnt boring.
This class was harder for me because I didn't take micro before. I spent a lot of outside class time researching and watching videos because I didn't understand. He also doesn't provide powerpoints or notes-he just stands there and talks. If you're someone who needs very little structure, Spears is for you. He is a great guy and super relaxed tho
I have no prior experience with econ, so I honestly struggled on the tests. He gives so much extra credit and participation quizzes which saved my grade. He's really chill, but he gives the worst notes. He said he didn't need the text book but I wish that I had got it because I didn't know 50% of what he was saying.
Take him. He lets you have a page of notes for each exam and always curves the exams. The material can be hard though, so make sure you understand it before exams. He gives participation quizzes once a week, so even though attendance isn't technically required, you definitely need to go. He doesn't post his lectures, so you only get info in person.
Russell Spears was an amazing professor that really wanted people to know that class can be fun to attend. You do have to show up to his class to know the material. The tests are open note, but he literally gives you all the material you need to succeed.
Dr. Spears was great, he was funny and made the class interesting. There are participation grades that help a lot, and he scales most tests. If you put effort in at all this class is do-able.
Professor Spears is hilarious and I enjoyed going to his classes. He is super chill and cares about your grades. There are attendance quizzes almost every week and it's hard to catch up on notes if you miss a class. Some of his test questions aren't addressed in class and he assumes some extra knowledge so beware of those.
Dr. Spears was great. He was fun to listen to and talk to and he actually cares about his students. You get point for showing up to class and his tests are generally easy if you just pay attention in class. He doens't post any notes or lectures so if you skip then you wont do well. great guy
I am literally in love with this man. He is amazing point blank take his class.
Best teacher I've ever had. Spears is the most chill and funniest guy and makes the lectures engaging. Even though attendance isn't technically mandatory definitely still go because most of the information on the test is from the lectures. Would definitely take him again and 100% register for his class if he's available.
I LOVE RUSSELL SPEARS! Hands down the best teacher at Auburn. He is Matthew McConaughey as a professor. His class consisted of four multiple-choice tests and attendance quizzes. His class was not attendance mandatory but you want to go to class because he is a joy to listen to! Take him if you get the chance to!
He's really nice and funny and wants his students to pass. Attendance isn't mandatory but he gives notes during class and doesn't put them online. His exams are in-person not locked though and has random participation quizzes during class.
He is so chill and nice. Tests are online and he takes attendance like once a week. def take him
Spears is young so he understands college kids. He is funny and interesting and actually gives real world advice through the macro curriculum. Tests are significantly harder than it seems but he curves nicely. Everyone failed exam one so he just gave everyone a 100. Learned most practical stuff in this class than any other class in my life.
This man was literally just so awesome. He lets you have cheat sheets on every test including the final. The tests are kind of hard but if you make your cheat sheet correctly you'll get at least an 85. If not, he curves extremely kindly. Like very.
Dr. Spears is so awesome! I thoroughly enjoyed this class, and I would definitely take one of his courses again. I am personally not very skilled in economics and should pass with either a low A or high B. Take his Econ classes if you have the option, you will not regret it!
TAKE MR.SPEARS. his lectures are so funny and doesn't record or post them. you should go because his tests are based on what is said in the lectures. his tests are multiple-choice and you also get a one-sided cheat sheet of whatever you want to look at during the test. would 100% take him again.
Highly recommend taking spears for macro!
Best professor at Auburn. Spears is such a great professor that cares about each of his students and gives plenty opportunities to do well. Only ECON 2030 teacher you should take!
Professor Spears is such an amazing professor and guy in general. He really cares about his students and wants to make sure that everyone understands his lectures and does good in his class. His lectures are by far some of the most interesting I have ever listened to. There are 4 exams and he curves every exam which is very helpful. TAKE HIM!!!!
Keeps his students entertained, hilarious Professor.
I loved this class. Interesting lectures and there's no assigned homework. Would recommend showing up to class because it helps when you take the tests.
Spears is definitely a must if you need to take Econ 2030. He is super nice and his tests arent hard. Come to class and youll be fine. Also hes super funny so thats an added bonus:)
Professor Spears is the best macro professor. He makes class interesting and relevant to what is happening in the world. You never get bored in his class, and I enjoy going. I would recommend attending class regularly because that is where you get all the material to study, but if you listen, you will do well. You should 100% take him.
Best professor at Auburn. Is actually interested in material and applies it to real life. Gives plenty EC.
Dr. Spears was awesome! He gives weekly quizzes as a pat on the back for attending class- so you definitely want to be there. Came into class everyday with a Starbucks coffee- ready to get the party started. I found him very funny. Make sure you take good notes bc thats where test questions come from.Would take again
Dr. Spears was one of my favorite professors I've had at Auburn. His lectures are enjoyable and he allows cheat sheets on every test. He does participation quizzes every Friday to help bump your grade up as well.
Russell Spears is a must take professor, its like taking a class with Matthew Mcconughey. He is hilarious and great at explaining his content. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, you will want to go to class. 10/10 recommend
Dr. Spears is easily my Favorite professor at Auburn so far. You have to go to as many classes as you can and pay attention to his lectures/take good notes, but his lectures are interesting and easy to comprehend. He provides tons of extra credit opportunities and truly wants you yo succeed. Dr. Spears is the best. Take him.
I love Dr.Spears and would absolutely take again. He doesn't post his lectures, so you have to go to class but he was so funny and made class fun so I didn't mind going. Would definitely recommend.
Dr. Spears makes class enjoyable and fun. He is a good lecturer as he explains topics in a very relatable way.
I highly recommend taking Russell Spears. He makes coming to class enjoyable and learning fun. If you go to class and take good notes you will be prepared for the class. Spears really cares for students and makes sure everyone fully understands the material before moving on.
Professor Spears was my favorite teacher I've had so far. He gets the content to us and he always has something entertaining to say. Would recommend!
Dr. Spears is a great professor who knows how to keep his lectures engaging. While the majority of the class is comprised of lectures, he offers participation quizzes once a week for simply showing up to class. He allows his students to have one sheet of notes for the tests, which makes them very doable. He also scales his tests which can be nice.
Professor Spears is my favorite professor this semester! Lectures are very straightforward and nothing is overcomplicated. Curves are very lenient and there is no assigned homework.
Professor Spears is a great professor who really knows what he is talking about and is passionate. He is laid back and really funny. We got out of class early most days and he gives participation quizzes which really help your grade. His tests are difficult but if you study and come to class you will do fine!
Would actually look forward to going to class at 10 am because he made it enjoyable. Just pay attention in his class and you will just fine and as long as you show effort, there are plenty of ways to get your grade up.
He is very fun to listen to, and you don't need a textbook. Notes are on PowerPoints and him speaking, but doesn't record or upload PowerPoints. Easy tests because of notes.
Professor Spears was a great teacher to have for macroeconomics this semester. He made each lecture very interesting and it made me enjoy coming to class each week. If you go class, take notes, and study for the tests, there is no reason why you won't do great in the class and get the grade you want.
He is a really chill professor test are a little hard but he usually gives a nice curve I loved the class and wish he could be my professor again.
Dr Spears made lectures very fun and interesting. Class was not mandatory, but I enjoyed going to his class. Tests are main part of grade but will give easy pop quizzes if you are in attendance.
By far the best professor I have had at Auburn. I haven't had an economics class in 3 years so i was nervous about taking macro but he made the class not only fun to go to but was very clear about what he expected from us on the tests. He gives a review before each test and there is an attendance quiz each week which adds up to a test grade.
Spears is by far my favorite professor at Auburn. All of his test material comes from his lectures and he does a review. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he will do random pop quizzes for attendance as some easy grades. He is very funny and his lectures are entertaining. If I could have one professor for every class this is who I would pick.
Spears is my favorite professor I have had at Auburn. He is funny, and the lectures are always exciting. Test are moderately difficult. Study and keep up with class notes and you will get an A. 20/10 class.
Spears is 100 percent the best professor I've had. He has really good lectures that aren't boring, and he has some good stories he tells. Attendance isn't mandatory, but he does participation quizzes so you will come to class. Just show up to class and take good notes and you will not have a problem in this class.
Great professor! Knows how to keep his students engaged and actually teaches material that pertains to the real world. If you want a good laugh and maybe learn something too take Spears
I took Professor Spears for Macroeconomics. One of the most real teachers I've ever had. Attendance is not mandatory but he gives out attendance quizzes most weeks for bonus points if you are in class. The tests are based on his lectures so if you show up and pay attention you'll be fine. I highly recommend taking his classes!
I absolutely loved Spears class this semester. He definitely tries to make class as fun as he can and wants all of his students to succeed. Class is not mandatory but he does not post his lectures online so going would be a good idea. He also gives you some really easy quizzes in class that will help your grade a lot. If you can take him, do it!!!!
Kind of a clutch teacher. Did a lot for our class that was above and beyond. Make sure u take notes or get them off other people. Allowed an A4 cheat sheet for all of the 4 tests.
Professor Spears is an amazing teacher. His class is entirely lecture based and there's no text book so you really need to go to class but his lectures are interesting so it wasn't that hard to make the effort to go. The only grades are participation quizzes and tests. Id for sure take him again.
Spears Is the best professor I've had in college so far. All he wants is for everyone to understand the material and get a good grade. This class is an easy A not because he doesn't care, but because he makes it easy to learn the material and doesn't try to trick you on exams. All you have to do is listen in class and you'll do well.
I would recommend this class to anyone who needs to take an economics class. Professor Spears is a great teachers, and I think that this is a great class for anyone to take.
D. Spears is probably my favorite professor that I have had at Auburn. He is really funny, actually teaches the material and makes class interesting.
Favorite professor that I have had at Auburn by far. Hilarious and makes class fun.
Super great professor who made class fun!
Great Professor and he really makes it easy for you to get an A if you put in a little effort.
Professor Spears is a great teacher and I would 10/10 recommend him for macroeconomics! He is very flexible and does not lecture long. Attendance is not mandatory, but it is important to attend b/c he gives easy quizzes every week that help boost your grade. Tests are not that hard and you get a cheat sheet. Spears is the best teacher I have had!
By far my favorite professor out of three years of college classes. He made the lectures as interesting and enjoyable as possible. He also cares about your grades and wants you to be able to make as high as you can. Definitely recommend!
Dr. Spears is the man. He is very chill and is always cracking jokes during lectures. I enjoyed attending his class and his tests are relatively easy and he is not afraid to help a friend out with a scale.
As a freshman this was one of my favorite classes! There are a few tests throughout the year and each class is a lecture with the occasional participation quiz. By far the best professor I have had. He is so chill and makes econ a lot easier to understand.
Dr. Spears is a nice guy, and his lectures are entertaining. He gives participation quizzes & lets you use 1 page of notes on the test, so make sure to go to class. I'm not great at econ, but Dr. Spears makes the class enjoyable and explains the material well.
Professor spears is very interesting to listen to. He keeps my attention while lecturing and keeps class from feeling like a chore.
Dr. Spears is the epitome of vibes. He will give weekly quizzes that help boost your grade, on top of some helpful curves on exams. He knows a lot about economics, but realizes that not everyone in the class may care as much about it, so he teaches it at a slower pace very well. He gives real life examples in every lecture, and he is hilarious.
Dr. Spears is really good at his job(s). From what he told us, he teaches/has taught at multiple universities as well as he works ATL doing financial things. He makes connections with economic lessons to the real world. There are weekly participation quizzes, but his lectures are dope too, so go to class. Best class I've been apart of at Auburn.
Spears is probably one of the best professors I have ever had in Auburn. He is hilarious and very understanding of the students. He is really cool and I will probably take any of his other classes. He offers weekly in class participation quizzes. Great professor, 100% recommend.
Everyone here is hyping Spears up to be this amazing, easy professor but he is probably one of the worst professors I've had. Great guy, super nice, but his tests are all based on the lectures and the test questions have nothing to do with what we learned in class. You could study for hours and still fail.
Absolutely loved his class! You have to go to class because he doesn't teach with a textbook or post his lectures. But he is so chill and gives a lot of extra credit!
Spears is honestly so chill and personable, but he's not very good at teaching the material. he's one of the coolest profs I've taken but his lectures are all over the place and made it very hard for me to do well in his class. He's not very reachable outside of class but he is a really nice guy and won't let you fail. sometimes gives exam redos.
Professor Spears' class is always interesting, and he puts the concepts in terms that are easy to understand. I am not an econ/business major, so some of the material in this class wasn't easy for me to understand on my own, but Spears' explanations and analogies are very helpful. He also is very flexible on grading and scales the tests a lot.
Great professor who made class fun and engaging. Tests are not the easiest, but go to class and take the attendance quizzes and you will do well. Would take again. One of my favorite professors at Auburn.
He is the type of professor who just teaches from experience which is nice because you learn more things about the outside world. He is very casual with his lectures and does a good job of engaging with the students. Coming to class is important because basically everything is based on what he says but participation is not mandatory.
I know you might be thinking "Here we go again, another 5.0 Spears rating," but what can I say, he's the goat. He's teaching to ensure your success (getting an A) in his class. He offers second chances, bonus opportunities, rounding, scaling, you name it. Don't be afraid to talk to him about your grade if you're dissatisfied either. Take Spears!
Dr. Spears is a pretty cool guy. You grade is based on 4 exams and random participation quizzes, so make sure you attend class. His class is very lecture heavy, and since he doesn't post the lectures online, one of the only ways you will pass with an A is to actually attend class. Super easy to pass the class though, would definitely recommend.
One of my favorite professors I've had at Auburn thus far. He is very in tune with the real world and what it's like to be a student and it shows up in his teaching which is something that needs to be appreciated and more common in higher education.
Amazing professor!! Super chill and hilarious. However, his exams are extremely tough even if you take notes and show up to class. Curves all the exams which will save your grade.
Very laid back and straight to the point. His lectures are full of useful information for the exams. 10/10 would take again.
Great lectures nothing too information dense. Same with tests. Overall great professor would undoubtedly recommend him.
Really cool and chill professor! Lecture heavy class but he is really funny and has fun lectures!!
Professor Spears was one of the best teachers I have had so far at Auburn. He really tries to relate each topic to present real topics, so we can understand the material easier. He is so funny. He's test are easy if you study for them and take good notes. Would definitely take again!!
Very chill professor and a very cool guy!!! Would 10/10 recommend. Makes the lectures interesting and gives participation credit.
He is very helpful if you need to get help of any sort. He is also available whenever you need him.
He lectures every class and every week you get a participation quiz. If you show up to the class, you should be good! He is very helpful and gives loves of opportunities for extra credit too.
Great professor and made the lectures very interesting!! Class was super relaxed and participation credit was given almost every class.
His lectures are very engaging and interesting to listen to and kept my attention the whole time. He gives lots of extra credit and participation points. Really awesome teacher!!!!
My favorite professor at Auburn. He makes his lectures fun to go to and brings light to the classroom. He also does participation quizzes to help boost your grade. I switched out of 3 micro classes just to get into his. He is amazing take him!!!!!
Russell Spears is one of the few teachers you'll come across in college that actually makes class enjoyable. He is one of the chillest teachers I have ever had and has definitely been my favorite teacher since being at Auburn. Go to class and take notes and you'll get an A. Highly recommend taking his class, you won't be disappointed.
Al thought attendance is not mandatory you do need to show up to class. Everything on the tests is discussed in class and very few things are posted. Sometimes there are quizzes for attendance but not often and most of your grade is the tests. He is very easy to work with if you miss a test or something and offers extra credit as well as curves.
He is very easygoing and is very fair in how he grades. Always looking for ways to help boost grades.
I had Spears for both Macro and Micro this year, and he has definitely been the best professor I've had at Auburn so far. He is very laid back, and his lectures are straight forward. Easy participation quizzes weekly, and although attendance is not mandatory it definitely leads to success in this course. 10/10 would recommend to everyone.
Very laid back with attendance and exams. You are given tons of opportunities for extra credit as well. Lecture based class, so you will need to pay attention to fully succeed.
I honestly never talked to him a single time when I took his class, but he's an awesome guy and a great lecturer. He didn't take attendance but you do have participation quizzes on random days. Exams were not on the easy side but he gives you extra credit opportunities to boost your grade. Would take any other class he teaches without hesitation.
So chill and the test are easy.
Very lenient and helpful
Professor Spears was a great teacher, very happy to answer questions and explain economic concepts in a digestible fashion. Would highly recommend!
If you have the chance to take any Econ course with Mr. spears please do so he makes the class so entertaining and fun to learn with his lectures
