Steele is definitely one of the most caring profs I've had, and the content in both MATH208 & 308 have been incredibly useful. However I can't not dock a point for the really poor communication, lack of graded work, plus broken promises. Could be a departmental issue, unsure. Recommended, with reservation if prompt feedback is important to you.

AVOID! Class is really easy, but organization is terrible. 2 weeks after the semester ended and yet no grades, whatsoever. No grades means no grades (assignments, midterm, or final). Do not take if you're an international student and graduating!

Great lectures, useful assignments, funny prof, easy class overall. But be warned, you will not get a single grade back until a month after the course has ended :)

Professor Steele's flexibility towards students is overshadowed by his lack of accountability in fulfilling any promises and returning grades back to students. A month after the final exam was due and we have yet to receive a single grade back; only graduating students have received an inexplicable A with zero explanation. Avoid at all costs.

Prof Steele is an extremely caring prof who cares about his students a lot, he has an amazing mentality which is learning over grades, but also knows grades are important so he makes sure we all succeed and that the class is at a perfect difficulty. Grades do take a long time to come, I don't think it is entirely his fault but rather the format.

Material was pretty straightforward. However, Professor Steele does not grade a single assessment during the semester. Beware but overall cool guy

Russell is a professor and associate dean for grad students. He is a mathematician who works collaboratively at Canada's highest-ranked medical institution. Trust that his game is psychological with students; don't trust him. If you do after reading this, it's your fault.

I don't think he enjoys teaching, and only seems to be here for a paycheck. Plus, we don't need any professors who are bigoted and unfair in their support of student progress (perhaps due to identity discrimination?).

He ruined my life and got me removed from my program. I spent a lot of money to go to McGill and he made the decision to remove me. I had to go through a period of homelessness and hunger since I moved to Montreal with no support network.

Dr. Steele told me he knew non-academic things about me, which I also did. These things were too risky for "Us," meaning the university and that he believes in second chances and that I should work as a research assistant for a year. If you trust him and he violates in any way, and you have read this, it's your fault. Get away from him, quickly..

I don't know what the other ratings are up to but Prof Steele is actually one of the nicest and most enthusiastic lecturer at McGill. His class go by quickly and he makes sure his students truly understand. His tests and assignments are very fair. The MAIN drawback is that he is known for grading things late. Our midterm of Oct11th isn't graded yet

Prof Steele is very knowledgeable, very caring, and an engaging lecture. The assessments were very fair. He does give back grades very late but honestly I'd rather have a good class with fair assessments where I can get an A than have my grades back quickly. Also anyone who thinks Russell Steele doesn't enjoy teaching doesn't know him at all.

Learned nothing from MATH523, no feedback on any of the homeworks or exams. This course is meant to be a core course for stats students, I hope someone else can take over this course.

Prof Steele takes forever to grade but if you learned nothing that's completely on you and that was the whole point of self grading the assignments, so we could have feedback faster. There's no way you'd get any of the assessments done if you didn't learn anything unless you were cheating. He's very lenient, and exams/assignments were fair.

His exams and assignments were fair. He was nice in terms of extending deadlines. We also got the chance to get 100 on the assignments if we chose to grade them. Only issue I would say is we never got our midterm grade back and he goes kind of fast but he repeats himself a lot so it makes sense later. He's very funny and nice, would def recommend.
