Dr. Huwe tests are all mulitple choice. If you do well on this type of system. Take her, she makes class very interesting. Never had a "dull" day!
one of the best professors i've ever had.
Ruth is an excellent lecturer. The info you cover in this class is all extremely useful. She can be a bit abrupt on a one-to-one basis, but I would reccommend her as an instructor.
Great teacher. Fun. Hot.
I was very disappointed with Dr. Huwe. She claims she is a good teacher but will not meet with students after or in between classes. The highest grade she gave was a 3.5 even though they got 100 on almost every assignment while someone who never did any assignments still got a 2.8. STUDENT BEWARE. I have heard she is different for BCMU though.
Worst professor I have ever had! I did not learn a thing from her lectures or homework! It was impossible to tie them back to the exams. Will not change grading even if the mistake was hers. Grading screws you over in the end. Someone who had a 55% still passed with a 2.8. Fair? no. Avoid this instructor or you will probably hate her too...
Ruth seems to be a very smart woman, though she refuses to listen to her students. She stresses the importance of feedback (as a manager) yet she refuses to explain her feedback (aka: grades.) She responds to e-mails without reading what was asked, and even SHE doesn't understand her own grading scales. Too bad-she has potential to be a great prof
One of the worst professors I have ever taken a class from. She is very unapproachable. I went to her office hours to discuss grades, and she could not explain to me why I missed points. She is rude and I regret taking this class from her. I actually enjoyed the material, but she made the class horrible. Her grading style is biased and unfair. Plea
It's clear that she has taught this class for years, and it's gotten to the point where she is just on autopilot when she's teaching- completely dispassionate about her material or the students. Useless theory class. Just take it since it's a requisite for bschool students.
All in all this was a really fun class and she suprisingly made it interesting. She likes to go off on her own stories here and there but other than that it's a pretty laid back class. Besides her stupid ass grading, I would say take her. But if you want to be safe, take it with someone else because her grading methods will screw you over!!
Her grading is unreasonable low... Her expectations are unclear and she grades down on things she didn't tell the class she expected... She tries to come across as nice and friendly but it's all fake... Worst grade I have received in my 3 years of college.
This was my lowest grade in almost 4 years of college. It was a complete shock considering how well I thought I did. Her grading system seems to be completely random (for example giving me a 50% on class participation for missing only one class). Her teaching style is erratic & it seems like she is just "mailing" her lectures in. Do not take her!
I strongly discourage you from taking this class with her.
She's not as bad as people say she is. If Eng. is your 2nd lang. you'd better be prepared for some fast-ass talking cuz she's like a tornado all over the place when she's lecturing. You definitely need to buy the book b/c that's all she tests from. aside from that, she's an alright teacher that you can afford to take or avoid ~ purely average.
The worse instructor I have had at UW.
She teachers MGMT 401&403. If you like the type of prof. that challenges you and has high expectations from you, then she's the real deal. She respects her students, doesn't talk down to us, and she welcomes criticism and is not afraid to explain her ideas. IMO, contrary to others on this post, she is an amazing professor.
Tests are straight forward mostly book and a couple questions on whatever else is covered outside so nothing tricky or ridiculously specific (ie memorize obscure areas of book). She's nice and is very engaging to the class. Grades hard on presentations and essays (80 is the median 4 essays, also grades in 10% incrm.). Perfect scores are rare...
This class is excruciatingly boring. Lots and lots of jargon, which is hard to keep straight. Be sure to read the textbook, especially the bolded words, the tests basically just test whether you remember those bolded words
Absolutely the worse professor I have ever had. As long as she is cashing checks from UW, I will never donate a penny to Foster.
Do not take this class if you care about grades...This professor cannot deliver a comprehensible lecture. She is all over the place. A scatterbrain. Trying to take notes is useless. Grading is biased. Be forewarned.
Solid class, great class discussion. Ruth is easy to approach and really wants to help. Got really good feedback on presentations that was very helpful - both from the teacher and the class. Class was lively and engaging - keeps you on your toes, but in a good way. Definitely recommend.
Class includes 2-pg paper, midterm, group presentation, and final. Tests are all multiple-choice and heavy on the book. She talks A MILE A MINUTE. Gives out copies of her powerpoint lectures in-class, doesn't post them online. Nice and passionate, but she grades hard on essay and presentation w/ little feedback.
She is very enthusiastic and tries to keep lectures interesting and interactive. Tests are all multiple choice straight from the book, lots of memorization. Interesting class, I would recommend her
It's tough to separate feelings re: material & professor, but Huwe took me from uninterested to invested in OB. Lectures were engaging, slides were useful, difficulty was average, grading was fair. Huwe respects & engages you at the same level you offer the class. Classic case of getting out what you put in - bring your A game, seriously.
Worst professor I have had at UW.
Awesome prof! So engaging!
She is interesting but her grading is so bias. Jeopardy is fun. Studied a lot for her class but her multiple choice exams are tough.
Funny and fun lectures. Very laid back. Tests are very manageable as long as you study the slides and read the book. One of the more enjoyable classes I have had in the business school
Highly recommended! Ruth Huwe?s classes are very rewarding, make you think and will drastically improve your writing and presentation skills. The class is engaging, has a fun discussion based atmosphere, and it is not impossible to get an A+. Ruth is very bright and supportive. Her classes were amongst my favorite at UW. Bonus- fun games in class!
I took Negotiations with professor Ruth! Amazing class and teacher. Highly recommended! Up-to-date lectures, readings and assignments. Great teaching style and very thorough comments on papers. Easy to understand why you got a certain grade. Ruth is friendly and really cares what and how you learn. VERY Useful groupProject and inClass cases.
Ruth is an EXCEPTIONAL teacher! She makes her classes fun, engaging and informational. Her tests are straightforward because she actually wants students to read the materials since she chooses texts that are really fun to read and educational too. She's a teacher that knows her subject and is enthusiastic about it. One of the best teachers in HR!
As an exchange student at UW I took a course of Ruth Huwe. This class was definitely the most enriching experience. Putting theory into practice has never been more applicable. She knew how to make regular models fascinating and used the most interesting articles, movies and assignments. She was open to help students, I liked her a lot!
Probably one of my least favorite class at the UW. I would not recommend her. The tests were straight forward but the essays must be done a certain way or else they are wrong.
Ruth Huwe is an incredible professor & mentor. I truly enjoyed her management 401 course, as we discussed many things actually applicable to life in the business world and in general. As long as you follow the guidelines & directions of the course, you will not only learn a lot, but do well while doing so. Highly recommend taking one of her classes
Dr. Huwe was easily the best professor I had at UW. She made her class/learning very enjoyable. She provided a variety of fun/new learning techniques including frequent group discussion and exercises. Because of these, I began to forget about my grade and enjoyed finding myself doing naturally well in the class, while actually learning something.
Dr. Huwe has done a great deal of studies and papers, which she always will tell you. As far as professors go, I've had better, more engaging teachers that really wanted students to succeed. My biggest challenge when interacting with Dr. Huwe is that she was inconsistent in her instructions and in what she wanted from students - frustrating.
I wanted to like her but seriously this class was super frustrating. She is not clear with assignments and did not like to clarify. The class material is very straight forward but tests were unnecessarily hard. Tons of memorizing from the book which she said she was avoiding..... And she takes attendance everyday.
After each group presentation, she asked presenters a question that would lead back to one of her anecdotes about a former profession. This and other lecture stories had no benefit to the students. She doesn't clarify what she wants. She asked for hard copies of all group presentations the DAY OF presentations and looked at us like we screwed up.
Tests were challenging because she makes a list of new articles & youtube videos and expects you to know every single one of them, on TOP of textbook and class materials. However, what frustrated me more is her attitude. She becomes extremely rude when she is in a bad mood. Definitely the WORST class i've taken at UW. Trust me & DON'T TAKE her!
Class materials could have been taught way better if she didn't treat students like 7th graders. She is extremely proud of herself for writing this one book that I can't even remember and loves going off the topic with that. The mgmt class is fun afterall, but I'm just saying it could've been better with a different professor.
Ruth is one of those teachers who goes out of her way to get to know her students. She is genuinely interested in making sure her students learn and have the tools to succeed. Ruth has acted as a mentor for me and helped me choose my career path. Her class was engaging and she employed novel teaching techniques to keep the class interesting.
Extremely Rude! Avoid her!
Ruth has a very dry teaching style, and concepts are a little hard to distinguish. Easy ideas, but the questions asked were VERY specific, which made very simple and easy material very hard to master. She restructured the class mid-quarter, which made things more difficult. I would say moving forward her class should be much easier than past Qs.
Ruth teaches with energy & confidence, and enhances the material with stories about her behavioral management research about her studies. She prints out her slides for you and really prepares you for her tests with lots of review. She's super helpful at her office hours, and I felt very comfortable going to her for academic and career advice.
Ruth is one of the most passionate professors I know in the Foster Business School. She can be eccentric at times, but it is all because she knows her stuff and wants you to know it too. This particular class is really cool for those wanting to grow awareness as leaders and decision makers. Final paper is actually VALUABLE to me and my future.
Ruth has been one of the best professors I've had at UW. She always comes up with innovative ways to help students understand topics and makes it fun to be in class. I would highly recommend taking Ruth's classes.
Ruth Huwe was an awesome professor. Don't get me wrong, she isn't easy, but I learned more in this class than I was anticipating! She also tries her hardest to make the class content relevant and interesting, which of course helps you learn!
Ruth is very passionate and knowledgable about this subject. That being said, she is rater stern, stubborn, and hard to connect with. However, she is a great teacher and the class is actually fairly easy as long as you go and are prepared. There is one presentation and you must do the readings, but besides that a relatively light work load
Must read chapters to prepare for quizzes (we had 7 throughout the quarter). You will learn a lot, but make sure you speak up or else she will mark you down.
Great Class and professor
It is really important to be in class and to read the assigned materials. As long as you do, the reading quizzes and tests are fairly straightforward. There is also quite a bit of group work. The lectures can be really interesting though, and she does a great job of using more hands on activities to keep class time from getting boring.
Loved her! The class was always interesting and I thought it was valuable stuff. She's an easy grader so let's see how the curve turns out...
EVADE HER
Participation is based on attendance (which technically isn't allowed). Midterm was 90 ?'s that required pure memorization of lecture slides, textbook, and other outside reading. Professor isn't very helpful and often uses a condescending and rude tone. Lectures are not online. Overall, a LOT of work but not terribly difficult. Wouldn't recommend.
Ruth is a very passionate and caring professor. She keeps class interesting with different activities, and she always provides real world examples to help you really grasp the concept. When you stop by for office hours she always says, "How may I be of service to you." That is how I would sum her up. She is there for you.
Taking this class I didn't do super hot on the midterms because multiple choice is not my strongest area of expertise, but when I asked for help Ruth helped me out and actually cared about helping me. She is fun and keeps the lectures going. Never one time did I think "when is this class going to be over?" she is also very invested in everyone!
Ruth is one of those instructors that strives to get you to understand the concepts that she is teaching you. She's thorough and prepared. She genuinely cares about students. She's been doing this for a while and you can tell she is very familiar and comfortable with her material. She goes the extra mile, she's upbeat, and she's got a couple jokes.
Professor Huwe is very energetic and really knows what she is talking about. I had her in three classes and in none of them I thought when is this class going to be over. Her classes are very interesting and rich in variety. For every paper or quiz she gives clear instructions such that I felt always treated fairly.
To sum her up pretty much she is clear, inspiring, caring and fun. She cares a lot about how much you understand the concepts. Loads of class room exercises to make a lot of friends. Her grading criteria is crystal clear and she gives specific feedback about what's missing. She has loads of industry experience so class examples are real and fun.
MGMT 401 was one of my favorite classes I have taken so far at UW. I had full confidence in Ruth's knowledge and she exemplifies the material she teaches through her own leadership experiences. She is a very enthusiastic lecturer and provides you with an abundance of resource to help anybody become a better leader. I recommend this class to anybody
She knows her subject and is passionate about it. Other than that, very disappointing as a teacher. She's proud. Leads to hypocrisy and caprice. EG "quizzes will be ridiculously easy if you did the reading" to "I made the quiz extra hard to prep you for the exam." Wants original thought; praises regurgitation. She's strict. No electronics period.
She is rude, unprofessional. She once mocked a persons religion and down plays it by acting like she is joking but she really is not. She is unorganized and changes subject due dates and content at the last minute. She is picky and if you don't do something how she likes you will get docked points.
If you're the type of student who reads these reviews, you're the type of student who should avoid Ruth at all costs. Take it with anyone else.
Hands down the best class I've ever taken at UW. The only class so far that I have learned things that I feel are actually useful to my future. We read Seven Habits of Highly Effective People as our class book if that tells you anything. Ruth is amazing and extremely intelligent. Yes she can be sarcastic - not a big deal at all in my mind.
Focusing too much on reading. Not practical stuff. Gets students to teach classes through presentations basically. Ignorant to many important issues and topics. Couldn't pronounce Xi Jinping which is important. Plugs her Morocco trip way too much - I would hate to be on a trip to another country with her. Grading criteria is not good.
Though the topics are interesting, Ruth is condescending in her attempt to seem well-versed and clever. She preaches self-reflection, but believes her way is the only way. NEVER use your phone in class. She's anal about cheating. She's picky about presentations. She favors the extroverted students. SO MUCH MATERIAL and reading. Hard to study.
An amazing teacher, really inspirational, she's fair, no midterms and finals, only some papers. She's well respected, knows what she's talking about and I learnt a lot.
I've taken 4 courses with her (Mgmt301,302,303 and 322) and she is one of the best professors I have ever had. She gives a lot of useful feedback and is very dedicated to her students. I learned a lot of useful skills and knowledge from her classes than many other courses that I've taken. The reading is interesting and useful too.
Ruth is a dedicated professor who puts passion into her lectures. There's class discussions on readings each class, but the readings are either short or interesting. She's clear, she knows what she's talking about, and just overall a great teacher to have.
Dr. Huwe's classes are interesting and engaging. I took three classes with her and each one had relevant activities, lessons and readings. Contrary to some earlier reviews, she doesn't play favorites. Your grade will reflect your work. She is fair in her assessments and feedback. I took many 'real life' skills out of each class. Highly recommend!!
Ruth's classes are not for any student reading about her on this sight. In my experience she gave us a book and lectures every day and literally all of it ends up on the exams. I won't be taking a course from her again and advise other students to do the same. I will say she is very likable but I am myself not a fan of her course.
She lives in her own world, and often has commentary that makes me want to face palm. However, she's an engaging professor that has some relevant examples. I strongly disliked the in-class exercises/games, but some people seemed to enjoy them.
MGMT isn't a hard class to teach; all you do is paraphrase the textbook in lecture. If this class was important to me, I would be frustrated that Ruth wastes A LOT of class talking about useless personal anecdotes. She also throws in weird test questions, which are often disputable if you challenge her on them. Curve is toughish. Class is a waste.
Took MGMT 300 and 403 with Ruth. Really liked her classes because they are very interactive - the in-class activities really helped with learning the course material! Ruth also offered to go over our midterms to provide feedback so we can do better on the final (+ to review our resumes) - I improved from below avg. to the second highest in class!
Dr. Huwe is a phenomenal professor who genuinely cares about her students' success both inside and outside of the classroom. She has years of real world experience in the corporate world yet encourages us to reach and think outside the box and be open to change and sustainability within the business environment.
Ruth is usually all over the place. I wanted to like her more than I ended up feeling about her, but she started to get sassy in conversations for no evident reason. although, she does have her biases, she does an above average job of being aware of them and usually doesnt stray to far from the center.
This class was definitely one of the most beneficial classes I took to prepare for the business world. Readings were manageable and relevant to corporate life, receiving feedback on group contributions was both unique and insightful, and the group business idea was a quality hands-on experience. Perfect elective for the Foster sales certificate.
Ruth is a solid professor with reasonable tests. She seems to know her stuff, but comes off as fairly arrogant. I would suggest taking it from Lee, as I've heard better things.
Honestly, Ruth is obviously very experienced, but she will never let you leave without bragging about herself. I cannot count the number of times she talked about Boeing and Puget Power. The class overall, the reading quizzes are not bad, the midterm was OK. But her final project was not clear and confusing.
I've always been on the dean's list at foster, so I feel qualified to state that Ruth is the WORST professor I've ever had, by far. She's unable to even structure a lecture, and her tests are based on using both the readings and lecture notes- even when the readings contradict what she says in lecture. Gives condescending answers to questions.
Prof. Huwe is very knowledgeable and a great facilitator. I have enjoyed every class in MGMT 404. The concepts in SWITCH that we read are very helpful in a professional set-up. She goes out of the way to ensure students understand a topic by explaining on the white board and by giving relevant examples. I highly recommend Prof. Huwe and MGMT 404.
great. She takes roll attendance and there are reading quizzes often. they aren't hard though, you just have to read the assigned readings.
She is extremely condescending and spends a good part of every lecture boasting about her unimpressive accolades and experience. It is very off putting. She is also rude when answering questions. Her exams test how well you can memorize her flawed perception of the world with many of the answers being highly debatable.
Rude, arrogant, learned nothing.
She is super disorganized and does not know how to use basic softwares correctly. I tried to like her as a professor but her lectures are just so boring. Learned everything by reading the textbook, and nothing from her. She is rude and condescending when answering questions. Very impatient!
She is all about herself. Super disorganized and arrogant. I learned everything from reading the book, not from her. Class is easy to follow if you just read the required materials. Yet, her lectures contradicted some of the materials that the book stated. She made us turn on the camera during exam, that just pushed my anxiety to another level.
If you're going to UW, you know that classes are going to be remote. Avoid Ruth at all costs. She doesn't know how to use basic technology, doesn't use canvas, and everything is unclear and the class is pointless. Save yourself the added stress because she doesn't know how to teach remotely.
For class actives, she gave us a list of names and made us email those people and set up our own Zoom meeting (during class) to complete the in class work sheet. This was extremely hectic, confusing, and frustrating. You might be thinking, oh maybe she just doesn't know technology. No. I informed her about breakout rooms and she get upset at me...
Ruth didn't want to teach for the full period, so you have a fair amount of reading outside of class that you need to understand to do well on exams. The lectures and course structure jumps around and is disorganized. The types of analyses that get tested on are never demonstrated in class, it's really up to you to figure it out on your own.
Her class structure is AWEFUL. Ruth doesn't explain concepts well in class, junps around topics, and usually ends discussions and class with no conclusion. There are pop quizzes on reading assignments, but they are time limited so you need to know the big picture. Her projects have no clear rubric and expectations. Worst class ever taken at Foster.
Disappointing class. Although I learned about stakeholder theory and broad ethical concepts, I'm concerned about Huwe's own ethics. Written exams were not graded on content, but on conformity. The sources Huwe used to make her arguments were laughable. Overall, it wasn't a horrible class, it just that I'm amazed she is a Foster Professor
I took MGMT 320 online and it was infuriating. All of Ruths assignments are meandering and incredibly confusing. She does not prepare students for exams and then does not provide enough time to compete them. Her lectures are incredibly partisan as she complains about conservatives and rambles about current news. For your sanity, find someone else.
Ruth is not a good professor. She hates anyone who isn't a liberal or a business major, just not professional. Her assignments are confusing and her lectures are no help preparing for an exam. STAY AWAY!
Worst prof I ever had since I've been in UW. Super boring and confusing lectures. Does not take other people's contrasting opinions. Her exams are so long only 5 people finished on time. Tests on lots of minor details like why is this course a Foster core. Reading quizes poorly formulated. Avoid at all costs.
Unfortunately, Ruth's personal biases are much stronger than her desire to evaluate students in a fair and reasonable manner using clearly defined criteria. She will trash your grade over minor grievances and is famous for nitpicking to make you lose points over nothing. My favorite subject is MGMT and she made it horrible and depressing. Stay away
Although a mediocre professor at first, she slowly got worse and worse. Classes weren't recorded because it "messed up Zoom" -- it doesn't, major exercises were pointless and time consuming with no actual participation, and trick questions were purposeful on the test. An easy class, but it felt like she purposely tried to make students fail.
Confusing lectures full of off-topic anecdotes. Pop quizzes are timed (3 min) but uber-specific to 40pg. readings. Canvas site completely unorganized which makes keeping up with course work very difficult. She has no tolerance for ideologies outside of her own - used almost every class exercise to bash slightest non-liberal thinking. Terrible.
I tried to be open-minded about this class and about Ruth from the beginning, but her class & project feedback tended to be very rude, rather than critical and helpful. She also tends to almost mock beliefs that she doesn't agree with, whether it's conservative or more left of her. It made it hard to enjoy and feel invested in the class.
Ruth's alright. She's articulate, explains concepts well, and connects them to real-world events. For the most part she's likable, although she can be condescending at times. Her evaluative methods seem to be more subjective than objective, but she does seek feedback from the class. She provided very little guidance for the group project essay.
Ruth is easily one of the most condescending professors that I have ever had. Her course guidelines are VERY general which gives a false sense of flexibility, however if you do not do things her way you're going to get penalized for it. She belittles students during class, and doesn't consider opinion that don't align with hers. Very disappointed.
I always look at Rate my Professor when I register for a class, and typically I find to take a grain of salt on the ratings. With Ruth, I advise the opposite. All of the ratings you see are pretty accurate, she is intelligent, no doubt, but is condescending, rude and in my eyes does not care if her students succeed. Good luck...
Im so sorry if you have Ruth. Ive never had a Professor more difficult to work with. She does not know how to use technology and shell make that YOUR problem. Shes so condescending, she will blame you for her own faults. Class isnt difficult if you read, just please dont run into issues with her, she will not help you at all.
I would highly recommend taking Ruth Huwe's classes. The assigned readings are engaging and informative. The lectures are easy to follow and usually end before the allotted class time so that there is time to meet with project groups. The assignments, quizzes, and papers are manageable if you keep up with the class materials.
Inflexible. Says participation isn't required but every class has a participation grade that cannot be made up. Barely uses canvas, makes you turn in hard copies of papers in person, no technology allowed in class. Grades subjectively on most assignments, rubric really doesn't matter. Lots of reading quizzes. Have to memorize a lengthy skit.
Such a boring class, made it hard to have the motivation to attend lectures. Graded on whether or not you show up with 2 free skips. Reading quizzes are specific and hard to get 100% on even if you do the reading. Overall boring class but not difficult, I could not find the motivation to do the assignments/readings\ because it was uninteresting.
I really enjoyed Ruth and her class. I found the class content super interesting and she made it easy to engage with activities. Summer quarter had about 6 reading quizzes, midterm and final, not too hard though. Her curve was tough though and an upper 80s grade left me with a 3.2. Still reccomend just make sure to put in effort and youll be fine.
She's not really difficult or evil, but I super hate her teaching. I had her winter last year where she banned all of us from using laptops (the first half of the quarter was online for omnicron, so everyone's notes were digital). She is condescending, opinionated, and mean. She "cares about taking care of yourself" but you only get two absences
It's only day 1 of the quarter and she's already the rudest professor I've interacted with at Foster by far.
The quarter just began, but I already received a condescending and rude email back from her regarding a simple question. She contradicts her instructions and blames it on the student.
I have never once written one of these reviews, however ruth stands as my catalyst. This class and course content has the potential to be extremely interesting and informative, yet she stands as the antithesis of the aforementioned. Her ego stands in the way of most everything, whether its questions or productivity within the class. Good luck...
I've taken a few of Professor Huwe's courses and every single one of them I have enjoyed thoroughly. Not only are her lessons highly applicable to real life and the professional world, but she consistently delivers on engaging, thought-provoking lectures/lesson plans. Absolutely loved her classes and would highly recommend them to anyone.
I took this class last Spring and it was by far the worst class I have ever taken at Foster. Testing material is vague. You have to show up to class bc she takes attendance and examples/class activities will show up on the exams. She is also by far the rudest professor I have ever encountered. Definitely don't recommend.
Ruth is my least favorite professor at Foster. She is rude, condescending, and has a massive ego. I stepped out once for 2 minutes because of an emergency to deal with and when I got back she made it a point to tell me the class wasn't at a good time for me. On email she is responsive makes the simplest answers sound passive aggressive.
This course is challenging but rewarding. The readings are long but interesting and their purpose is made clear. Attendance is mandatory but class time is well used. Expect to do a significant amount of work and work with your peers. Gained useful career skills. Professor Huwe cares about her job and students and this is reflected in her teaching.
She is just a rude person. Her classes were very boring and she did not let us take notes on computers. Her tests are difficult and are vaguely based off of class material. Attendance was mandatory. She mentioned she worked for Boeing at least twice per lecture. Take this class with Todd instead.
She's a great professor if you show the effort that you want to learn. I honestly loved her and she taught me a lot in this course. This class is definitely not easy, and many will find it uninteresting, but it helped show me a different perspective. Show up to class, do the readings, and review the PowerPoints, and you will do fine. Loved her.
This is the one and only professor at Foster I strongly do not recommend. Unreasonable and unclear grading criteria and a lack of respect for students.
Ruth, is by far the rudest and worst professor I ever had in the Foster. She did not listen to you. She shows no respect to students at all. Moral story, do not take her course.
She's a pretty direct person, so might not be for some people, but I really like her class. She has really engaging lectures and is really helpful in office hours, offers good feedback on improving on exams, projects, etc. Midterm and project rubrics are broad and lecture and textbook materials matter heavily on exams.
Class participation is around 20% of your final grade, but there's minimal work outside of class (just one group project and some light reading every week)
Many people who "dislike" Ruth tend to be more of the tech savy students. She really doesnt like the use of tech to take notes but It didnt bother me at all since I hand write mine. Theres reading quizzes and the reading can take a bit. Shes actually pretty cool to talk with outside of class or even during break. attendence is mandatory.
You'll have to show up in person and sit in the front if you want the best experience. She is a great lecturer and holds a very interactive class, so lots of moving around and talking to people. Don't let her catch you leaving class early or using your phone. There isn't much work for this class except just showing up twice a week. Fun class.
Professor Huwe was great, a lot of people didn't love her teaching method or the anti electronic policy though. Her lectures were clear, and the exercises were involving. She was extremely knowledgeable, not only about history but stayed up to date on important current events that she shared with the class. Just participate, easy A.
Ruth is an awesome professor. Engaging lectures and activities during class, and she's very helpful during office hours and will always give good feedback and even give tips for the project and exams. Exams are balanced between lecture content and book content, and take notes on every small thing she says.
Ruth isn't as bad as most of the reviews say - she's sweet, funny, and makes lectures very engaging; not condescending like most comments say. Participation is required and you're allowed a cheat sheet for exams. As long as you take notes on key definitions, concepts, and examples, you'll have all the info you need for exams.
Disorganized and does not give clear guidelines in syllabus (so she can "reward those who pay attention in class" but during class time she also goes on tangents and is hard to follow). Class content is not hard but trying to read her mind because instructions are so limited makes this class so difficult. Don't take this class.
She is by far the worst professor I have taken in Foster. She is incredibly disrespectful to students and has terrible grading criteria. She calls students out every class and is very condescending towards them. I would not recommend taking her class at all. All my classmates complain about her daily. Avoid her if possible.
Professor Huwe's class can be challenging, but engaging lectures and helpful office hours make it worthwhile. Just stay focused, take detailed notes, and use study tools like unstuck AI to ace the exams. Overall, a solid class if you're willing to put in the effort.
whenever i emailed this professor, i felt like she disregarded my view and was unnecessarily sassy. so i did not want to go to her for help. i personally did not enjoy the lectures. i did feel the quizzes we had, she graded fairly leniently which i appreciated. the midterm was pretty hard and the final was a bit better.
the worst and most disrespectful instructor ever. She calls out very often and offend them in front of the whole class. Always talk about ethics in class but she even did not apply it to herself
One of the if not the most unreasonable professors I have taken a class for at UW. Would highly not recommend.
One of the most disrespectful professors I have ever taken in my entire life. She is so unreasonable and unfair. She does not care about her students. I can honestly say this class made me hate UW. I am so sad that I had this experience and I can see from the reviews that I am not the only one.
THERE IS A REASON WHY THE RATING IS THE WAY IT IS. Her reading quizzes aren't based on understanding. She would pick one small line from a reading or graphic to quiz you on. Not to mention her hypocritical attitude when it comes to teaching and technology. Spare your self the headache and do not take Ruth, she's similar to Francis for BECON.
the most awful and karen instructor i have ever met. 3 words to describe: cruel, harsh, and impolite to students. No respect at all she will come and snap at you for small things that she find it ‘disturbing'. really regret taking it with her
so many case studies that are useless to be memorized for the quiz and exams. felt like i only study to pass the exam, and not learning anything.
She is an extremely rude professor and calls students out for small things. However, I felt that her class wasn't too difficult, she dropped two reading quiz scores and had engaging lectures/class exercises. The exams were a little difficult, but manageable (don't rely on the study guides, just memorize the info on the slides).
Ruth was an amazing teacher and I loved going to her class. I could understand how some may find it a difficult course, but as long as you participate in the class, pay attention to lectures and study hard for the exams then you will do great. I found Ruth as one of the most caring professor's I've ever had and I could tell how passionate she is.
Dissatisfied with the structure and their attitude to questions. There were times where something is genuinely confusing and she would get irritated. A lot of reading aside from that, with memorization being the main objective.
Overall she is a weird professor. Not the worst professor Ive had tho. She says that attendance is not mandatory in syllabus even tho it is. Her class isn't too difficult but she gets extremely mad if you make a small mistake. Ps. I heard she copies everything the other mgmt 320 professor does and bothers him nonstop.
only way to get a good grade in this class is if you have photographic memory. will pick the most random unnecessary sentences out of 40 pages in a textbook and quiz you on it (biweekly) + when school was delayed for snow, she discriminated against commuters and expected us to risk our lives for a 20 minute class for a quiz. ATTENDANCE MANDATORY
By far the worse prof at UW. Unclear instructions, lots of reading quiz and asked the most random questions, passive aggressive when you ask questions or feedbacks, things she wrote on the syllabus are for looks, she changes when she wants to. Skip this professor if possible, otherwise good luck.
Extremely hypocritical, reading quizzes tests you on the smallest things from entire chapters worth of reading, harsh. Really don't understand how she is still at UW. The ratings are the way it is for a reason and DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT hold on to that little sliver of hope that she's not that bad based on the very few 5 star ratings on here.
Do not take it with Ruth!
She is the rudest professor I have ever encountered in my entire life. She has no consideration for students unless you are her favorite. She tries to gaslight you into thinking her forgetting to grade your quizzes is your fault and is so rude in every email she sends and in person. She needs to be fired. Save yourself wait for another prof.
Not allowed to go to bathroom during exams that take most people almost the whole 2 hours, unexpected for an ethics/rights focused class. Have to do the weekly reading, and not just skim it. Exam questions are purposefully tricky, must have a clear understanding of concepts and specifics. Professional experience, thought provoking discussions.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! 1.Terrible Quiz (have to read about 20 pages for quiz, but sometime it just test the first 2 pages, or pick the info in secretest corner!) 2.Extremely Unclear instruction 3.Rude and hypocritical attitude 4.Unreasonable and non-disclosure presentation criteria. 5.Unclear syllabus for exam 6.LEARN NOTHING.
I would say sometimes the RMP reviews are over exaggerating and the professor isnt even that bad, this is not the case. She's the rudest prof I have ever met at UW, publicly shaming student for anything. Let alone her useless and tough exams that require you to read 40 pages and her absurd final of 100 Q's! Just save yourself, pick another prof
Attendance required/graded. Discriminates against commuter students, gives a reading quiz on the delayed snow day. Reading quizzes have 20-30 of readings with oddly specific questions. Exam content is far fetched from the study guides and lecture. Harsh grader on written portion of midterm (expect 50%-70%) with NO leniency. Hostile prof do not take
Quiz questions are dumb with 20-30 pages of expected reading of cases and defintions just to have inappropriate questions like “out of black, hispanic, or white men/women, who makes the least”. Extremely rude over email. Unorganized study guides - tells you what's NOT on the exam instead of providing clarity. Condescending demeanor to students!
She doesn't prepare you for success at all. I've never had such a hypocritical professor. She says attendance isn't required when it LITERALLY is. Her exams are so broad, the only way to study for them is to rewatch every lecture, and to top it off she doesn't give any practice problems.
She yelled at me for a minor mistake i made. Do not take this professor, even if she is the only option then wait till winter to take tod begstrom
Awfully rude professor, do not take
Condescending and rude. Tests don't require any critical thinking, just random memorization. In class exercises are fun and engaging, but apart from that the class is awful. No clear expectations for presentations or exams. Her exams don't demonstrate how well you learned, but rather how well you memorized useless facts.
Does she even like students? Seemed like Dr. Huwe was constantly annoyed and looked down on students. I often felt put down in her class. This class was ambiguous, lacked direction, and felt like a waste of time. I cannot say I learned much that I was not already exposed to through ethics classes. Just a hoop to jump through for graduation.
Worst professor ever. Very condescending and found any and every instance to be patronizing (even on email). Reading the textbook once over carefully is not enough for the quizzes despite her saying quizzes are just to make sure you did the readings. You have to memorize it basically. Midterm and final heavily based on what was done in class!
Genuinely got nothing out of this class- These reviews may seem exaggerated, but she generally does not seem to show compassion for her students and midterm/final exam are on everything discussed in class and attendance is mandatory despite her saying it is not (appears to have extreme difficulty even for intelligent students)
I never take the time to write a RMP review but Ruth was worth emphasizing how poor MGMT 320 was structured this quarter. Despite positive reviews in the past, both exams lacked critical thinking but more on useless facts that are not relevant (same with quizzes). In class activities were about the only good thing in this class if ever
Dropped the class after the first day due to over 10 people telling me not to take her. Also she was very rude on the first day, which is an automatic sign to me that she is not going to be friendly over the quarter. I have never dropped a class this early.
Do not take her, take any other professor besides her
The way she treats her students just disgusts me. She is the least qualified to teach an ethics business course.
Worst class + worst professor I've ever taken at foster. Don't know why I didn't drop her class in the beginning. She is not charismatic or helpful in any way. Just thinking about her brings my mood down!
Not sure where to begin but she is very rude and hard to work with. She makes so many mistakes which makes it hard to keep up. Such an awful professor, I really wish I could drop this class and take it with a different professor but I need it to graduate:(
Not a class you can just cram for, you need to come to class and pay attention. You will do well if you put the effort in. Talks very fast so sometimes confusing! Really knows her stuff
I seriously don't understand how people give her a 5-star rating as she is anything close to it. She is extremely rude to students and always bringing up personal stories which have nothing to do with the content. Her exams are very hard and she doesn't provide any practice tests.
Just rude overall
Grading: rubrics/expectations are given but grading is super subjective, never expect her to be lenient Participation: can't miss a certain amt of classes or fail, reading quizzes easy but annoying Presentations: topic bars and memorize lines Overall she was weirdly personal, nice, rude at the same time. Rather self centered, highkey problematic
Just super subjective vibes based class. If she likes something it gets points if she doesn't it wont. This was embodied one day when a student raised there hand to answer "low wages" which she claimed was wrong before showing a list of answers that contained word for word "low wages". Disorganized, unclear expectations, makes an easy class hard.
I refuse to call her Dr. Huwe, but Ruth seems to despise students and be irritated all the time. In her class, I always felt devalued. This was a confusing, aimless, and time-wasting class. I can't claim to have learned anything new from my ethics classes.
Easily the worst professor I've ever had. Ruth is incredibly rude and condescending toward students, tests you on complete nonsense from lectures and readings, and overcomplicates a basic course. I've learned absolutely nothing all quarter except how to memorize random, irrelevant facts. Please take this course with Todd instead.
Dr. Huwe had engaging lectures that were genuinely so enjoyable, especially through the interactive structure. She always came in to class with a positive attitude, and showed lots of excitement to teach. She takes the time to talk to students during office hours, and provide constructive feedback on where they need to focus to improve/do better.
Some say she is biased. It's true. Fortunately for me, she favoured me, which made the class easier for me. But for other students, she would get upset at them. My groupmates complained she was always mad at them. Get on her good side. Her class is hard, all reading and memorisation, not very intuitive. Quizzes and exams soley based on textbook.
Fav class this quarter. Any upfront behavior I saw was directed toward late or distracting students. Tuition isn't cheap, you worked hard to be here - showing up matters. Outside factors influenced my ability to study for final, but I really enjoyed material. GO TO OFFICE HOURS - will help you develop professionally and has lived interesting life.
Dr. Huwe is a great professor! She really cares about her students and genuinely wants us to get out of the course with key lessons. She is also very helpful if you ask for feedback and is willing to aid her students in doing their best. Her class had a very reasonable workload, I never felt like I was drowning in assignments or could not keep up.
I came into this class worried about how challenging it might be, but Ruth made the material genuinely interesting. She's an excellent lecturer—engaging, clear, and always willing to help her students. If you go to class, read the textbook, and review the slides, you'll be well prepared. Overall, one of my favorites professors at Foster!
Don't let the negative reviews fool you I'm so glad I took Ruth. Her paper-and-pencil style keeps everyone engaged, and every lecture was genuinely interesting. She truly cares about her students' learning. Show up and review the slides and you'll be prepared.
SEVERAL midterms, a major presentation, and a final exam + Quizzes weekly. Course concepts are incredibly easy to comprehend, but her grading lacks any standardization and is highly subjective - side-by-side midterms proved it. 0 flexibility on absences, questions met with hostility, Canvas a mess, and due dates moved earlier with almost no notice.
Don't take her, you will 100% be better off taking tod bergstrom.
