Not a very difficult teacher at all. Online HW is 30% of your grade so take the time to do it. Tests aren't bad plus she drops the lowest one.
She is really good teacher, deeply knowledgable on the subject, loves teaching her class which creates a highly positive environment for the students. About tests, I thought them very easy, if you just do the homework, which is short, and look the slide you will only have to spend very little time on the textbook. I highly recommend her
Ruth morales was so awesome. She knew the subject very very well and was very inspirational. She was a positive, lovely person! I did not want to take Econ but had to and was very scared to, however she made it doable. You had to put time into it for sure. Homework was hard. Tests were hard. The way the class is organized is great.
Prof. Morales was amazing! I loved her class and I loved her as well! You can tell she loves the subject and goes above and beyond to teach the class. I would take her a hundred times if I could! Truly and fun and amazing professor. Exams aren't that hard!
Professor Morales is the best!! I love her! She makes the class so fun and interesting. Tests aren't very hard as long as you study and keep up with the material! I would 100% taker her class again!
Speak up with questions, she will answer them, she moves fast so prepare for class by reading the material ahead of time. Don't challenge her on an egotistical level, you will lose much more than the argument. Rewriting my class notes helped improve my comprehension of the deceptively similar topics in microeconomics. I recommend taking her class.
Ruth Morales is the best teacher at CC. She has a unique passion for teaching this makes you fell that she is just teaching for you. I couldn't recommend her enough. However, the only downside is the aplia it's often unclear of what they are asking you to do and it's very unforgiving of human error. Otherwise, her class is a gem. Take her!
100% take her class. She makes everything enjoyable and entertaining. She applies everything to the real world and it really helps you understand. One of the best teachers at SBCC. You will have to work to get a good grade, but overall it is worth it and not too challenging. If you apply yourself you will be fine. Make sure you read the book!!!
Professor Morales is good at what she does and knows her subject well. It is not an easy A but she does try to make the lectures interesting for everybody. The book is expensive but it comes with a website code that offers extra help with prep-test quizes and such
Can clearly see Professor Morales loves what she teaches. Very good at explaining topics. I was horrible in Econ in High School, but Professor Morales made it all make sense. Will help you if you ask for it! Should be no reason to get less than a B. Tough class to get an A in, but it is doable if you do well on tests and do each homework.
Professor Morales is easily one of the best professors at SBCC. She genuinely wants you to not only succeed but also understand economics. She is always available during her office hours and gives you her full attention during them. The textbook is expensive, but it is worth it to buy it.
Professor Morales is the best professor I've had so far at CC, she actually influenced me to change my major from business to economics. She really cares about what she does and values her students feedback. She is accessible and clearly wants you to succeed. The homework is straight forward and the tests follow exactly what we do in class.
Morales is great. Gives great prepared lectures and tries to keep it interesting. It is very clear what she expects from you. 4 exams (incl. final) and drops 1 + 25% weekly homework online. She does get weird about grades. You cannot keep your exams and you always have to calculate your own grade. also, don't expect a 92.999 to be rounded to an A;p
Loved the material and the teacher. She is helpful in class and office hours and provides great examples when defining concepts. You get to drop a test which is awesome and drop your lowest 3 homework assignments. Test one is easy, two was tough, three was tougher. Final was easy. Take her!
Professor Morales is by far one of the best teachers at SBCC. She makes difficult concepts easy to grasp and she really wants students to succeed and understand economics. If you have the chance, TAKE HER CLASSES!!
She cares about the subject but can be unclear and rush the material. Makes the homework due two days before class and is online which makes it hard to remember sometimes. She sometimes makes it seem like a chore to lecture and it can make it really boring.
Prof. Morales is very sweet, funny and caring but when it comes to getting a solid grade in her class, it can be a challenge. I studied for about 10 hrs per test and would get C/D test scores. Econ doesn't come easy to me but I did feel very prepared going into the tests. I recommend her for students who have a little bit of an Econ background.
Prof. Morales is a very smart lady who knows a lot about econ. However, her lectures are incredibly boring because you only write down a few things which require you to actively listen. The tests were hard, even when I studied for the prior two days, I would still get a C. So be willing to put in 110% in this class in order to get a decent grade.
If English is not your first language I wouldn't recommend taking this class. Teacher specifically said she will not define any vocab even though she uses Spanish words sometimes. Has sarcastic humor which can be humiliating sometimes and made a joke about a student's ethnic name. Office hours are not first come first serve, so be prepared to wait
Her lectures were rather boring and it seemed like she'd rather be anywhere else. She talks a lot about her personal life. Study on MindTap doing the practice questions; they're similar/the same to tests. Don't print the slides, write it down (it helps you remember). Also, she makes you calculate your own grade and doesn't allow most calculators.
It is a privilege to take any class with Ruth. Simply a memorable teacher. She makes a notable effort to ensure the lectures are interesting & coherent for all students regardless of if you're an Econ major or not. Tests are challenging but if you put the same effort into learning the material that she does into teaching the class you will pass.
I took Macro with Prof Morales and it was the hardest class I have taken in my college career! But she is the best teacher, and really makes you know Econ when your done with it. I am taking another Econ class with a different teacher and Prof Morales is so much better and really drills it into your head.
This professor was fun, but her office hours were unreliable and her tests were too difficult for an economics 1 class. She also cancelled class often enough to lose track of the material..
Difficult class. She expects you know everything about Econ walking through the door. Claims Econ easy is to understand but also claims average test scores are low C's. Study out side of class as much of possible, wont pass just showing up to lectures.
Ruth is great. She's caring and she'll help you all the way if you reach out to her. She cares about us. Grade is based on 3 exams and an optional Final if you messed up on one of the exams. Lowest Exam gets dropped if you take the Final. She's funny as hell, too. Read a lot, ask questions and you'll do great. Thank you, Prof Morales! Love you!
Amazing Professor!!! Clearly knows the subject matter and knows how to teach it well! Barely any writing in this class more of a math-based approach to Economics
I had an extremely hard time in this class she made it way to hard for an intro calss
Love her! I switched some classes to get her for econ 102 and 101. She definitely expects you to work hard for a grade by studying and doing the hw, but she has amazing lectures that makes it easy to stay engaged. I recommend to participate in class bc it helps so much. I have so much respect for her and appreciate her passion to teach her students
One of the hardest yet most funnest class I've had at SBCC. Ruth Morales is an excellent professors who makes hard concepts easy, just show up to class. I had to study some hours outside of class, and it is highly recommended you get a study group going within the class. Hard class, but I wouldn't have anyone else teach it besides her.
The exam is so hard
Prof Morales, is a nice lady who wants you to succeed and will help you as much as she can as long as you bring effort and truly try, her hw system is tricky but not difficult, make sure to stay on top of HW & notes and you will do amazing on her tests. Her tests are always true to what she teaches, and final is optional if you like your grade.
She is definitely a great professor. If you are majoring in economics, you should definitely take her class. You can learn some real knowledge from her. But if you just want to take Econ 101 for fun or for transferable credits. I want to remind you that this is not the class that you can get a good grade if you don't spend time on it.
Teacher is incredibly difficult for intro class, and off topic.
If you are taking her class because you need to fill that GE requirement, take a different class. This class is way too difficult to be a 101 class because it's graded 30% on the 3 exams and 10% on the Homework which means if you do poorly on a test you're basically out. This class ruined my GPA so I highly recommend you pick something else.
Prof Morales is such a sweet lady but the way she sets up her class is horrible. You're graded mostly on tests and only a little on homework. In her class a C on a test is considered good so if you are trying to get an A then you basically need to only take this class during the semester. If you were graded on more things it would be way more fair.
shes really admirable and hilarious! The only thing is that she can get off topic sometimes. She knows her stuff and is open and easy to talk to with confusion. You dont have to go to class but it Def helps and I feel like I wouldve gotten a better grade if I did show up.
Ruth is a good teacher, but I would not take this class during a summer session again. She provides videos for all the chapters, but they can be over 2 hours long. 75% of the class is based off exams and they are VERY TRICKY!!! Be prepared to know the content like the back of your hand!
I was worried about ECON101 since I heard a lot about its difficulty. However, Professor Morales is a clear, thorough instructor that works with us to convey the material in an effective way. Her office hours are great if you're struggling with content. Tests are clear and straight-forward, and homework is super doable if you read. Take this class!
This lesson is too easy, especially for Chinese students. It's just common sense. It's easy to get above 90 on the exam. So you don't have to worry about getting an A.
Her ecn102 is simpler than ecn101. The content and ecn101 ecn102 first before the midterm. Ecn102 also has much less content than ecn101. This is one of the most waterlogged courses I've ever taken in SBCC. You don't have to go, you just have to take the exam. Easy A.
Honestly, everyone said she was so great and I expected so much more out of Morales. I did okay in the course, but she had zero regard for some personal things I had going on. I'm not sure why, but she makes this class so much harder than it needs to be and she doesn't give us any type of wiggle room such as extra credit or anything.
Much harder class than expected. You MUST watch the lecture videos otherwise you will not do well on tests. Tests are proctored online. Homework and discussions due weekly.
Professor Morales is an amazing professor that makes people want to show up. She auto drops the lowest 3 homework scores and the final is set up so it can only help your grade. Besides that she is dedicated to making sure everyone understands the material and setting her students up for future success.
This class is by far the hardest class I've taken in college especially because I don't find econ very interesting but the tests and homework were really hard, you definitely need to study. Because she has so many students it was sometimes hard to get help from her but she makes the course material as clear as possible it's just up to you to learn
She makes it very clear what material is going to appear on the exams. Lectures includes very detailed information that will appear on the exam, so no small detail should be overlooked. The class is very rigorous and requires a lot of studying and reviewing. Its a tough class but shes willing to help her students.
She's pretty tough, but makes Economics as interesting as possible. Tests are very tricky.. You must read the book, some say adaptive study prep in the course hw is helpful. I did not do it, I focused on the assigned hw and mastery of the textbook itself . Including chapter summaries and did well. Must devote a lot of time to get an A.
This class is one of the hardest Ive take so far. It has made me rethink my major choice. Get ready to study A LOT or you wont pass. Overall cool teacher.
Weekly homework was hard - scores based on the average of the 3 attempts per problem (rather than the best of the 3). Tests were super hard and proctored - prepare to study and don't rely on hw to help you. Weekly discussions were easy points though. Took econ in high school which definitely helped me, but be prepared if you're new to econ.
Prof Morales shows personal interest and is always ready to help you. If you already know about microeconomics then this course is really doable. Lectures are long and there is a lot to read in the textbook, but you can also just go through the pdf slides and still get an A. I'll have her for ECON 102 next semester too.
I took Econ with her both in person and online and either way youre getting a great teacher that knows what shes talking about. She is very accessible and replies to messages within a few hours. Lecture videos are very helpful for understanding the material but they can be a little long. Exams are straight forward and she drops your lowest exam.
She is great! You have to put in the work, so don't take her if you want to be lazy. I tried really hard and still got a C but I feel like she explains things clearly, she's funny, and she's very helpful. I would definitely recommend her. Her zoom discussions were helpful too. Take advantage of those if you are able to.
You can tell Professor Morales cares about the success of her students! She provides good study materials and thoroughly explains every topic well. Homework assignments are difficult but as long as you did the reading while taking notes and reviewed the material, you should be good. Time management is also big in this class!
She is an AMAZING professor! I took ECON101 in-person and I never knew the transition to online could be so easy! Her online lectures are just as invigorating, she can't gesticulate as much but through her iPad, she succeeds in conveying each point. She easily simplifies complicated subjects but assigns an exceptionally comprehensive textbook too.
The teacher cares, she's pretty good, but this class was just way too hard compared to what my peers had to go through to get their Econ creds. Would NOT recommend this teacher if you're just trying to get a college degree, great class if you like a challenge!
The material is easy but her grading is tough. The exams were worth 72% of the class grade. She defends herself by saying she has a generous drop policy(drops 3 lowest homework scores, and final is optional). The homework is graded on average on number of attempts per question, the reason I was less than a .2 away from an A. Good Luck.
Professor Morales is the most amazing professor you could have - if you are willing to do your part and really wanting to learn. By doing your part I mean not only attending lectures, but doing all the exercises she gives, the homework she assigns and reading the textbook. Her explanations are clear and she makes sure students understand it!
Ruth was an extremely hard professor. On the first test everyone got a 70% and the class is not curved. Tests are a majority percentage of the grade as well. It's a tad bit ridiculous. She is a ridiculously hard grader, her recorded lectures suck. She comes off as rude and judgemental. Not at all worth the time or effort. Do not take it online.
Awesome class! Even though it was online, I really enjoyed it. She is very good at teaching online and all the assignments helped me to understand the content. Only 5 exams total and the lowest score is dropped. Hypothetically the final is optional if you do well on other exams. Textbook reading every week but she's a great teacher, 10/10 recommend
Amazing professor, really engages you in her subject and relates all topics to the real world. If you are interested in economics 100% take prof Morales, if you're looking for an elective for extra units don't take this class unless you want a bit of a challenge.
Zoom lectures are pointless in terms of the weekly lessons. She just goes on tangents about things and doesn't review the chapters or quizzes we have taken. Exams are just a big memorization test, all of the questions being multiple choice. Super strict about deadlines (Due @ 9 p.m sharp), but takes weeks to grade things and doesn't leave feedback
Work load: read textbook, 2 hr lectures, online homework, test. You get 3 tries per question, score is averaged. Tests aren't that similar to homework. You MUST meet with the tutor, read the textbook and really study before the test. No extra credit at all, late work is not accepted. One homework grade and test grade are dropped @ end of semester.
Morales was okay, but I def agree with other posters to take benelli instead. tip to anyone taking her class: INVEST IN A CHEGG ACCOUNT! Cannot stress this enough. EVERYTHING IS ON CHEGG. She is so lazy, so use this to your advantage to get high homework scores. It is literally the difference between an A /A- or B+/A- since exams are 72%. GOOD LUCK
Workload is a lot. Lectures are really long. Her in person lectures were ok and she's a cool person, but the recorded lectures are painful. Exams are online but proctored. HW and discussions are not too hard but added with the reading and lectures it is a lot to do. I only recommend if you are interested in econ and willing to devote lots of time.
this is a class you need to put a lot of effort into, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. I learned a lot, though it did get stressful at times. read the textbook, watch every lecture, and have good study habits and you'll be ok! Prof. Morales is super knowledgeable and her lectures are engaging! still, exams being 72% really sucks lol
Professor Morales is a great professor who clearly outlines the expectations and guidelines for this course. Be sure to be fully engaged in the course as it is rather reading/lecture heavy. I took this course during the summer, so the pacing was a lot more rigorous than during a full semester. Great professor with awesome lectures!!
She is a cool person and has lots of energy during lectures. The exams are worth a lot of your grade and can be really tough if you don't study. The homework has 3 tries per question but all of the work is recycled.
This class is pretty doable if you follow a schedule for HW & lectures. I definitely recommend taking notes on lectures to review (with A+ test prep and her study guide). She has a pretty clear grading policy, so make sure to do HW and discussions to get all the points possible. Her grading is really nice, since she drops the lowest exam score.
This professor will not take personal issues into consideration including military service. She claims she cares for her students while she teaches over 500 students a semester just so she can get paid more, uploads lecture videos from three years ago and when asked a question tells you to re watch the video. Would recommend Cindy Benelli instead.
Before Professor Morales accepted this job, many SBCC students transferred to UCSB completely unprepared for upper division Economics courses. If you are willing and able to put in the time and effort to learn all you can from the textbooks, lectures, homework and exams, this is bound to be a worthwhile investment.
the class uses an interactive online textbook and she posts lectures & discussions every week. workload is average but a big downside is tests are like 70% of your grade. BUT she lets u drop ur lowest test grade. I can tell her class is actually teaching me what I need to learn so im happy. she's nice but also comes off as entitled in her lectures
She talks extremely fast, repeats the same stuff over and over and also just really isn't that great of a teacher. She isn't bad just not good also your tests count for over 70% of your grade which kinda sucks since the exams are much harder than any of the homework. Overall I say just go find another professor but this class is tolerable.
Professor is very well educated and is passionate about teaching econ, but talks pretty fast. She requires active participation during her lectures so stay ready on your toes. In order to succeed you NEED to attend class and take active notes. Easy to get behind. Exams are challenging and difficult to prepare for.
This class is more difficult than originally expected, but also interesting in my opinion. Professor Morales explains the topics very well and lays out what is expected of you right away. The online quizzes are proctored and can not be made up. My advice: Read the chapters, Do the homework, and Watch the Lecture videos. Good luck!
Overall amazing professor who cares about her students and teaches in a very effective and unique way.
Calling her a professor would not do this course justice. She was more of a moderator for a pre-existing econ textbook software and uploaded lectures that were a few years old. Mind tap (the software) is irritating and not constructive, and the tests are heavily moderated.
If you want to learn, take this professor. If you want to have a high chance of transferring somewhere good, take a different professor. If you're able to dedicate a good portion of your time to the online version of the class, then take this professor.
Difficult class, but professor Morales does a fantastic job explaining each topic. Be sure to read each chapter before watching lectures.
Teacher does not allow retakes. Simply no empathy for personal matters.
I had no interest in economics going into this class but Professor Morales made learning about economics fascinating. Her lectures can be long at times but she's hilarious and uses lots of real-life analogies to help you really understand the economic concepts she's talking about. She's stern, but clear about what's expected of you & very helpful.
This is the worst teacher I have ever encountered. Assigns astronomically hefty assignments with zero guidance. Has zero tolerance for missing assignments even if it was a medical emergency. Honestly so rude and inconsiderate, anyone who says this is a good teacher is out of their minds.
Terrible job at teaching. Especially online - DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER ONLINE - assigns an ungodly amount of work with zero help or guidance. I really did not like her as a teacher.
I loved Ruth and she is an amazing person. A definite 5/5 person and professor, however be warned that Exams are worth A LOT. If you are not a strong test taker I would be wary as your exam grades will most likely be your final grade.
She was a good teacher. It was lots of lectures and they were kind of hard to understand, but I was in a 120-person class. Only I HW and 1 discussion per week. The 4 tests are 80% of the grade, but she gives extra points and the final can only help by replacing your worst test. I will take her again, but in a smaller class or online. Good overall
This teacher is nice, and good at teaching. However the lecturers were very hard to understand. The class was huge, which made it hard to speak with her a lot. The homework is fairly easy, 1 assignment per week, and 1 discussion. The exams aren't the easiest either. The multiple choice questions were very hard.
Absolute worst teacher I have ever had, do not take this class unless it is going to be your #1 priority. Her lectures are boring and the notes wont help you with the homework. You grade is based off exams and if you work or don't have time outside of class to go to tutoring or get extra help you will not learn anything. Do not take this class!
worst teacher I ever hard, you wont learn anything in her lectures and she talks about the same thing over and over, if you dont have time to get extra help outside of class hours you will not pass. Her exams and homework are completely different information than what she teaches in class, does not prepare you at all. Don't take this class
Don't take this class if you want to learn, unreasonably hard for no reason. Gives no extra help and does not care about her students. Find another teacher
This course was challenging if you do not have time. Lectures are 1 hour, and the information is not on exams or homework. You must have time to be tutored or read the textbook to succeed. Would not offer extra credit or anything to help grade even within 0.25% from passing.
Be ready to spend a long time trying to succeed in the class. Her lectures made sense & they helped understand the concepts in the book but they were totally unrelated to the exams. The weekly hw assignments were so time consuming bc you were expected to be an expert on that chapter before the hw. I def learned in this class but it was stressfulll
Bad teacher
To be clear, your lowest three homework grades get dropped and your lowest exam gets dropped as well. The lectures are very engaging and they provide most of what you need to succeed on exams and homework but yes you'll have to be proactive for some of it. She does not deserve below a 4.0 IMO and def not for the reasons mentioned in other reviews.
The HW is all on cengage and canvas discussions, My main issue is that on the homework you frequently may only plot points and move lines on graphs for the assignment but those exercises will never appear on the proctored exams, but even if you took a non-college credit Econ class in high school you'll do just fine.
I found this economics class to be unnecessarily challenging due to the teaching style. The instructor relied heavily on assigning personal reading, often from dense and complex texts, without sufficient in-class discussion or explanation to ensure students understood the material.
Be prepared for weekly homeworks, quizzes, and discussion posts. There are five exams, but only four are graded. While the workload is heavy, the exams are fair if you study the practice sheets, as half the questions are multiple-choice. The professor is helpful, passionate, and answers questions clearly.
The homework was probably the toughest part, as the questions were never like the ones on the exam. Her lectures helped a lot but I do recommend using youtube videos before the exam as that's what helped me! She's a tough grader, even if you missed something so little, she'll take points. She's a great teacher and you can ask her so many questions
She doesn't really teach. You also have to pay and sign up for Cengage in order to do the class. The homework on there is way more confusing than anything we actually learn in her online lectures. Also all of her quizzes and tests are heavily proctored
Challenging class, but engaging lectures. Textbook is a must-read. Exams are tough - focus on studying with unstuck AI and other resources to excel. Overall, a rewarding course if you're willing to put in the work.
She sucksssss
actually horrible. she doesn't even really teach. you have to pay for mintap to do homework. hw also way harder than actual exams. also when you finsih an exam, you can't see what you got wrong and grades aren't posted for weeks so you don't know your grades until almost the end of the semester.
The lectures, chapters, and slides will all have the same learning objectives. The study guide will be based off those and then will only cover about half the exam. You dont really know what youre going to be tested on. If you just want to get a B or C the class is fine but if you want an A I would never take this class.
homework is unrelated to the exams and you have to put a lot of effort you have to understand the homework just for none of it to matter when it comes to the exam. You will have a false idea of what youre being tested on the chapter objectives and study guide will all be leading you to something but then the test is different. Why does she do thi
why. just why. Either make the homework easier to learn or make it related to the exams. you dont have enough time to learn how to do both. Everyone i know has taken her and says the exact same thing yet she still doesnt change it. Also mind tap is horrible
Shes nice but is the worst teacher ive had. Ive never had a class where the homework takes that much effort and time away from studying when its unrelated to the exams that are 80% of your grade. The exam drop policy would be nice if we knew what we were being tested on. She needs to change how she teaches
I took her class for both 101 and 102, and she has been great for both. There's at most an hour of homework a week, and though MindTap is annoying, it's not that bad. She has fun stories at her lectures and makes learning economics much more interesting than most professors could ever.
Attendance for getting a good grade in this class is a must. Professor Morales uses analogies that help her students grasp the material. Homework every week, but it is very helpful for exams. She gives her students all the resources to succeed. If you keep up with the work, lectures, and attend the exam review sessions, YOU WILL GET AN A.
She's a caring person when she see's that you are trying. The homework was irritating but I think reading the textbook and taking lecture notes is what really helped me pull through. She goes through what will be on the tests if you're there. She's very keen on people showing up. She is also very strict and whatever is in the syllabus is like law.
Exams are worth a huge portion of grade but she does reviews before each exam. MindTap the program she uses for online hw is BS, so frustrating. Exam material is pretty much the things she harps on the most during lecture so if you attend and pay attention to lectures and exam reviews you'll know what to look for in exams. She drops the lowest exam
Take this class if you want to be tortured. Don't take her class if you care about privacy. She makes you show your id and force you to upload your profile picture even you don't want to or you will be losing 100pts from total credit.
She's a strict teacher because the quizzes don't really pertain to the chapter. and the proctor, which took me an hour to complete just before the test. I had to withdraw from this online course.
I enjoyed the class and found it super interesting and relevant overall, prof. Morales was kind and personable but lagged on responding to emails and wasn't much support for an online class. Took at least 4/5 hours a week for homework which is worth a lot and her exams were so so so difficult. would take again though just really prioritize it.
If Econ is required for your major then take it at another school. The Econ department at SBCC in general doesn't seem to be optimal.
It's a heavy class although Professor morales does a great job at giving engaging informational lectures. This is the second class I've taken from her and it's apparent that she's incredibly knowledgeable on the subject and wants her students to do well. I have a lot of respect for her and if you pay attention in this class you'll do fine.
WORST CLASS IVE EVER TAKEN! She's not good at teaching and very bad at responding to emails. She lags a lot or doesn't respond. I took her summer class. The lectures don't make sense you basically have to self teach yourself. Tutors were no help they would never show up to meetings. The quizzes were on lock down browser and didn't make sense
This class is easy if you pay attention in lecture and take notes! She sometimes is confusing but she teaches slow and gives you time to understand the concepts. She also tells you what's going to be on the test. If you don't go to lecture you won't do good. Other than that, pop an Addy and rip the library a day before the test. Worked for me.
