AWFUL! Do not take this professor! She doesn't understand the material. She speeds through it & gets annoyed when you stop to ask a question. She is unable to elaborate beyond the textbook-you'd might as well teach yourself & save the $$! I studied every night for 5 hrs & still failed the first 3 exams bc she grades unfairly. DO NOT TAKE!!
Ruth wasn't the easiest teacher but sometimes I'd ask a question and I think she strives towards you figuring it out versus her telling you the answer. She printed out notes for us and we'd have to write some part of the notes and that really helped. It's not going to be an easy class
Honestly, Don't listen to the previous comments. If your honestly interested in chemistry and put in work, you will do fine. I managed a high B or A on every test. Some people leave class early and also miss a few extra credit opportunities. Overall a good teacher, if you put in the work.
Yeah. the earlier comments are wrong. This professor is very helpful with questions! She also explains stuff so it is understandable, unlike the book, sometimes. It is a hard subject but she makes it easier to understand. I would highly recommend her. She seems to really enjoy teaching us, too.
She is very smart but does not know how to teach!! She goes EXTREMELY fast from topic to topic and gives you notes that she prints out for you to fill in during lecture, they are the only thing helpful in this class. You pretty much self teach your way through this class, now I have to retake this class!! Take it with another instructor!!!
Dr. R is extremely clear with the expectations for this class. Her guided notes are extremely helpful, she is easy to get in touch with, and either she or someone else can help you with questions. Tests and labs are fair, if you put in the time it's an easy A.
Prof R-P was OK. Her teaching skills were average but the examples she used were bad because they required explanation beyond the course level. Her strong point: NOTES She hands out packets that are partially complete and then you fill it in as she goes through it in class. The lab is boring and unrelated to the lectures. Good enough for intro chem
Ruth seems to be inexperienced with teaching. Her expectations are a little high sometimes. She also grades math problems that were never taught in class. She rushes quickly through the lecture notes. On the other hand, she's approachable and is willing to help. She also does a lot outside of class to help students understand the material better.
Her notes are VERY helpful. You get what you put into it. She likes what she is doing.
I really enjoyed this teacher, and she is very enthusiastic about what she is teaching. She provides the notes that you partially fill in. She allows you to work through solving the problems instead of her just telling you the answer, which I really respect. Her tests are mediocre, and there's some stuff on there you have to use your knowledge for.
I like Dr Ruth as a person. She is really nice and knows what she teaches. Her expectations are incredibly high though. In class the notes are extremely simple and the test comes around and its problems she has never talked about before. I usually get As and i struggled to get a C. Everyone was getting Ds on the test they are EXTREMLEY hard
Dr. R is the best! lecture notes are extremely useful! You almost don't need the book. She explains things on the right level. I felt comfortable asking questions in class and she seems to care that we learn. You absolutely have to come to class all the time, but if you do & work hard, the tests are fine. If you gotta take chem, take Dr. R!
Dr. Robinson makes it clear that she has high expectations. Don't let this scare you, though. She's a great professor who really knows her materials. She also talks about things you can relate to that could help you understand more. She's a tough grader, though. Come to class, take notes, and you'll do good.
She's an awesome professor. if you are looking for an Easy A she is not the one and maybe chemistry isn't for you.. Put it work and it will show
Ruth is a good teacher! Just make sure you listen and take notes in lecture, otherwise it will get very confusing and you will fall behind.
Dr. Robinson is a wonderful instructor! She is extremely organized, providing lecture notes and helpful study guides. The labs can be challenging, but are fun. I now love chemistry!
I took her when she first started at NCC and it was a mess. She constantly switched between online homework and in-text homework, which screwed lots of us up. She was super nice and knew what she was talking about, but I know LOTS of people did terrible on the tests and homework. Labs were a fun challenge that I enjoyed doing with friends!
Dr. Robinson is extremely intelligent and knows the material well. This class is extremely difficult and I'd recommend setting a huge amount of time aside for studying. Her tests are some of the most difficult I've taken. In her office hours, she's very helpful. She moves through the lab directions quickly, so pay attention. Overall, she's cool.
Tests are tough if you don't take your time on them so I would advise to not make stupid mistakes, especially how much the grade weighing process with her tests are SUPER weighed. Practice makes the best. Lectures about a lot in a day so also would always try to always make it to class.
Dr R did one substitute lecture in Phil Barker's class and I learned more in that one lecture than in most of the rest of Barker's classes. She puts things in a way that makes sense and doesn't use power points. I really wish I had taken her instead!
Dr. Robinson, was a good teacher I would definitely take her course again. Her notes that she makes you buy are amazing because they really help you to study and stay organized. At first I wasn't really sure about her she seemed kind of stuck up but she turned out be a really nice caring teacher. Definitely take her class.
I had Dr. R for Chem 1020 and Chem 1050. She clearly tells us what we will be graded on and tells us in detail what is expected of us for every exam. She is easily excessible outside of class including e-mail responses within 24 hours. Also, she schedules optional study groups including practice problems she helps you work through. She's awesome!
She is very tough, but extremely thorough! I loved her class- not a big fan of chemistry but I absolutely adored coming to class and learning, she made it fun and worth while as well as made the topic a little more enjoyable by being so approachable! Wish I would have taken her for chem1020!
Dr. R was a great teacher. I took her class in the summer in 1 month so it went pretty fast. Despite this I really enjoyed her class. Tests were not that hard if you study and, thankfully because she gives a whole bunch of little homework assignments, if you don't do very well on one or two test you aren't doomed to fail. Again, great teacher.
Amazing professor. She does go a little fast through her material however, if you attend class and do the homework and just allow a couple hours of study time a week you will do fine!
Dr. Robinson is a great professor. The tests can be difficult but if you follow the study guide and read through her notes you will do just fine. Class is very structured and organized, labs are very strait forward. If you put in the effort and read the textbook a couple hours a week you will get a good grade!
Ruth was such a great teacher. She seems a little unapproachable at first, but she's really dorky and funny when you start talking with her. I was terrified of taking chemistry and she made it very easy to understand. Her notes were easy to follow and the homework goes right off of them. If you show up and pay attention, you'll be sure to pass.
Dr. Robinson is a very good professor. The notes were very easy to follow and the tests closely reflected the notes. She tells you what you need to have memorized and what will be provided, which is nice. Overall a very good class.
Dr R was an amazing professor! She is super smart and her lectures are easy to follow and they tell you everything you need to know for the tests. I never opened my textbook once. As long as you go to class and do the weekly homework assignments you don't really need to study much because everything is pretty clear.
You definitely don't need to use the textbook. She is very clear and concise and will make understanding chem very easy. However, the class is fairly lecture heavy which can be dull but there is in class demonstrations and she is a VERY good teacher.
love how she gives HW, she uses Aleks. Her lectures are easy to follow and very clear. I have yet to open my textbook and were almost done with the course. great teacher.
Took her for the first time and I was not disappointed. She gives lectures through a PowerPoint and a class note packet so that was real real neat. Not too many notes. Never bough the book because all her exams were of her notes! Really compassionate and caring person. Definitely recommend taking her.
I took Robinson for Chem 1020 and I'm not a chemistry person, but I found her class to be fairly easy. The work packet you have to buy for the class she made herself and it is essential for the course, it's a great help. Also, she gives very detailed study guides before the tests. They have all the things you need to memorize and practice problems.
one of the best teachers in Normandale
Overall, nice lady. She grades tough on the labs I think I only received a 10 out of 10 2 times. if they offer pass sessions go to them even if you think you dont need them. Helped me out alot. I put little to no effort into class and got a B.
lectures are great, she's made a workbook with blanks to fill in. Be respectful and show up to labs on time and you will learn SO much chemistry! She makes things SO simple when she explains them, and the concepts are taught in a very logical order, so you never are out of your depth.
Dr. R was great! Answered all my questions even if they were not very well thought out. The text book was printouts of her slideshows. I took the hybrid version. You followed along on YouTube and it worked out nicely since you could rewind if you missed something. A lot of homework to do on the Aleks site but it helped you retain the material well.
Ruth is really a great professor. Chem 1061 is not an easy class and you will work for your grade. However, her lecture videos and the workbook that goes along with them is amazing. She gives you everything you need to succeed, just study for her tests as they are 50% of your grade! Couldn't recommend her enough to chem and non-chem people alike.
I took her hybrid course so it was harder. She posted youtube videos for all of the concepts, which more than made up for the lack of in-class time. She was more than willing to help you if you came to her. It is important to show up to labs because she only lets you make up one at the end of the semester. You HAVE TO BE self-motivated to succeed.
Robinson shouldn't teach an online-only class. Because of Covid-19, my school switched to all online. It would be doable if taught either hybrid or in-person. The homework website was difficult to follow and was unreasonable at times. There was little/ no time to zoom help during group work and exams should have study guides not from the textbook.
The worst professor Ive ever had. The way she talks in lectures is condescending. None of her labs have clear directions. The homework is on Aleks and is difficult and irrelevant to what is being taught. She is not helpful in emails when I need help. She is strict about tests & threatened she caught 8 kids cheating last spring. Dont take her!
Would not recommend this professor. Lab directions were very unclear and if you email her for help she is very vague and does not give helpful direction. Study guides and practice assignments were different from exams... All weekly homework is on an ALEKS platform.
Exams are extremely difficult as the material she gives you are not at all helpful. ALEKS and group work every week is busy work. Shes very hard to reach outside her scheduled zoom hours & she responds to emails late. Shes also a very tough & picky grader then grades assignments out of order. Lab instructions are unclear. Dont take her course.
One of my biggest frustrations with this professor is the way she sets her exams up. You are not allowed to go back and check your answer before submission or skip and return to questions later. Exams are 50% of your grade. She takes a very long time to grade assignments... just received a grade from an assignment 6 weeks ago. Dont recommend.
Dr. Robinson has very clear expectations and the course has the same requirements and due dates almost every week, making it easy to plan time to complete and submit your coursework. She is also very perceptive to feedback and ideas to improve the course. Her online organization is also very good and easy to follow. I'd definitely recommend.
I disagree with the recent assessments of Dr. R. Dr. R is an excellent professor with a knack for boiling complex topics down into manageable ideas. My emails have been responded to promptly (sometimes within minutes), and thoughtfully. Tests are challenging and sometimes include "trick" questions if you aren't prepared. Tough A, great Professor.
This has been a toughest course I've ever taken. Dr R is the professor that you want to take if you really want to understand chemistry. She makes her own workbook that helps you along with her lectures. Aleks homework, lab, and group assignment are due weekly. Exams are not hard but tricky: you have to learn the materials very carefully!
Dr. R is a solid prof. There is a lot of work in CHEM 1061 (labs, ALEKS, etc.), but she gives you the tools and knowledge to complete it all. She responded to my emails v quickly with thoughtful responses. There is a textbook, but you don't need to use it; Dr. R gives good lectures and a good workbook. I wish she had demos for the at-home labs tho.
She doesnt care about you at all. If you miss one class with group work because you were sick or had other priorities you will get a zero on assignment even if you did most of the work. Do not recommend AT ALL! Dont waste your time and money.
Goes really fast through lectures and is condescending when you ask questions. Group project and lab every week. Labs were moderately fun. You get to use your notes on the tests, but you won't get an A if you don't study. She says you need to read the textbook, I didn't open it once and I was fine. Interesting class for a chem though. Mediocre prof
I've never had a professor want me to fail a class, till now. She doesn't communicate instructions well at all and her email to me were always rude. she would take off half my points for things she didn't even tell me about. Don't take her class, it was a terrible experience which is unfortunate because her study book is helpful.
On the first day of class, Prof. R DEADNAMED me in front of the whole class despite my name and pronouns being on full display. She is archaic in her teaching style, unforgiving in her perception of you, and acts as if you are an idiot when you ask any questions. She will sooner say you're wrong than accept any blame for a mistake she made. 0/5
I ended up dropping the class due to her lack of teaching. I was ready to work my butt off and did all the Aleks, lectures, reading, and did every assignment fully. However, you're expected to do all homework, notes, and reading PRIOR to class on MONDAY. If you're not willing to put in 60 hrs per week including weekends don't take it.
She was an okay professor. I felt like she went through stuff really fast and oftentimes threw in questions on the exam that did cover what the unit was about, but were way more complicated than the practice we went over in class, so I couldn't get them right on the exam. Attending the meetings is important for a good grade and taking the notes.
VERY NICE TEACHER. RESPONDS FAST TO EMAILS. ATTENDING CLASS WITH CAMERA ON WILL EARN YOU LOTS OF POINTS, UP TO 56. THERE IS AN EXTRA CREDIT LAB, VERY EASY. PAY ATTENTION, READ THE BOOK, AND ASK QUESTIONS AND YOU WILL DO GREAT. REMEMBER TO ASK HER TO RECORD CLASS SO YOU CAN VIEW THEM ON D2L IF YOU WANT TO LOOK OVER THE NOTES AND STUFF.
Prof. R is very easy to get a hold of outside class with her prompt responses to emails and questions. However, you MUST be good at time management to succeed in this class! You will NOT pass without effort, studying, and attending labs! This shouldnt be a surprise, as its all in the syllabus. So pay attention!
Lots of homework every week & videos give you the minimum information. Weekly assignments barely count as studying for the tests. You need to LEARN EVERYTHING BY YOURSELF w/ outside online resources & do LOTS of practice problems. Exam time limits are VERY short. Very difficult, time-consuming, she answers questions condescendingly. No extensions.
For your sake, dont take her class. She is rude, terrible at lectures, terrible at explaining things, catches attitudes when you ask for help. A lot of work!! Very hard grader
This class is a flipped class. Dr. R gave us videos to watch and take notes on then in class we would have to apply the learning to group works and worksheets. The worksheets and videos are optional but you cannot pass the class without doing them, it's just for your own benefit. To prepare for test review ALL previous videos, skim opensax, redo WS
I took her Fall 2021, only after I took Chem 1062 with a different teacher did I realize how badly the course was set up. The weekly homework was almost useless in studying for exams or for labs. She put material on the exams we never covered. It felt like she purposely wanted students to fail. She was a bit condescending when I asked questions.
This class was by far the simplest class I had to take. Literally all you have to do is show up and do your work on time in Aleks (where you do your HW) and take notes in a handy little packet. Overall, just do the work and you'll do well
For your sake DO NOT take this professor you are setting yourself up for failure. If you look at the time stamp of the good reviews are pre covid/ pre online classes. She is overall terrible you will fail and it wont be because the material is hard but cuz ruth wants you to fail
Took Real World Chemistry online, you're expected to purchase the Course Workbook to take notes for the lecture videos. You will need it, especially for the exams. Lecture notes are ok, but probably won't save you when it comes to the weekly quizzes. Overall, she was okay, could've tried to make the weekly quizzes connect more with the content.
Every time I watch her lecture videos I feel like I've missed a vital reading or assignment because I have no idea what Dr. R is saying. She teaches like the material is basic knowledge and goes through them like it's a review. The workload isn't much, however. Weekly ALEKS and group quizzes which you can just do alone. Prepare to teach yourself.
Dr. R is a very educated woman and well respected but is not the best at explaining complex topics to students that might have forgotten what they learned in their previous chem classes. So get ready to teach yourself. The homework website she uses is super helpful but requires a lot of your time every week.
This chemistry class covers more topics than the other 1061 students at Normandale or other community colleges so if you don't want to go in-depth, this is not for you. If you're looking for an easy way out of this class. you're not at the right place. If you have any other priorities in your life than school then again this is not for you.
You don't need to read the textbook. Watch all the weekly videos. Do the ALEKS assignments, and use the explanation button for questions you don't understand. Write all the solutions to the worksheets because they usually summarize the chapter and are essential for quizzes and sometimes tests. Ask questions at lab. You should spend 6-10 hrs/week.
If you're fine with teaching yourself and having absolutely no support from the professor this is the class for you. The professor doesn't teach, she jumps from topic to topic so fast and she assumes everyone is walking into this class knowing Chemistry. She doesn't care about your success whatsoever. It is a waste of time and money.
This professor was pretty good, gave lots of options for students to have resources to pass the class. If you watch all the pre recorded videos and do the workbook practice problems, you will most certainly pass the class. Lots of work is done with other classmates, so be prepared.
It taking this course be aware that previous chemistry is a must . In the description of the class it does not mention that, very challenging tests and group quizzes. I took the class for a transfer credit. Professor was not very open to hearing your ideas on homework or test questions.
Prerecorded lectures from 10 years ago where she briefly goes over the content (halfway into the semester i just stopped watching them as they just make things more confusing ). VERY tedious Aleks homework that has no relation to the tests. Labs were average and she helped when needed. Overall I would avoid this class unless you've got no choice.
I really enjoyed the class by the end; the structure is very regulat and straightforward. I was dumb and didn't take notes in the course workbook at first, but if you do you will have everything you need. She allows you to use the workbook during tests, so you just need to know how to use it and where to find what you need for each type of problem.
5 Exams plus a final and group quizzes every week. Open note which is great, but timed for one hour and have around 25-37 questions each time. Questions are normally more complicated material than we take notes on and barley HW related. Don't miss a SINGLE lab, whole grade down if one missed. Expect lab exam and around 15-20 hours dedicated.
Was an adjustment to get used to her teaching style, but you'll realize that you're very prepared for exams & retain the information, which is really important in CHEM sequence courses. Workbook that follows the lectures & is great explaining tough topics. No extra credit & a tough grader, online exams do use fake elements which make it 10x harder.
Dr. Robinson is a solid professor. She teaches the content on a clear and understandable way. I would recommend her as a professor. One thing to know, it's extremely important that you are on time to her labs. Her exams are based on the workbook instead of the textbook which is helpful.
I have never had a worse professor. I had to file a complaint. The tests were nothing like what she was teaching us. Nothing. The notes she provided were 10000% useless. I might as well have just showed up to those proctored exams without having done anything and would have gotten the same results. I would never take her.
I never wanted to bother a leave a comment, but if it helps another student, I will. My experience with her was a nightmare. RUN if you see her—she's not as nice as she seems. If you're looking for a professor who provides clear guidance in chemistry and grades you fairly based on your effort, I recommend exploring other options.
I took Chem 2 with this professor. Test were given online, half the problem are plugging number in and solving a problem so if you mess up at the end there's not partial credit. Will also include questions you've never seen before. Cumulative final was also given online, 3 hours long and she did not allow you to get up and go to the bathroom.
Tests are all online with 80% of the questions being plug in and the rest being multiple choice. Because of cheating she split tests into two sections with 10 questions each, and once you moved to the second section you weren't able to go back to the first. Switch lab partners every 4ish weeks. Not recommended unless you dont have any other option
horrible. i dont have the energy to even explain. passed only by the skin of my teeth. i blacked out and made it. i dont remember how i made it. shes so rude. i had a mishap with her and ended up speaking with advisors and the dean to complain. i was given the option to withdraw with no W because of it. i dont lose so i kept going. DO NOT TAKE HER!
When I took the class they gave us a weird printed textbook. The class was fairly easy, felt very similar to my high school chemistry and physics classes, you don't really get to learn anything about vacuum technology though
OH MY ITS SO HORRIBLE IM TELLING YOU BEFORE YOU MAKE THIS MISTAKE DONT GO!!! TEST HEAVY AND DOESNT EVEN SEE YOUR PROCESS SO ANY SLIGHT MISTAKE MEANS IT IS AUTOMATICALLY WRONG MAKES IT SEEM UNDERSTANDABLE IN THE VIDEOS BUT WHEN YOU ACTUALLY TAKE THE EXAMS (IN IT YOU THINK YOU GOT IT) ITS DIFFERENT ITS LIKE YOU GOTTA TEACH YOURSELF WHAT'S THE POINT!
Old and low-quality videos, 20 questions per test (2-3 chapters for each). Wasted $1K on this useless course. No extra credits, no partial credits, no study guide for exams, no slides, no test examples. Spent time watching useless videos. Nothing was found on the exams. Please run. Don't insist on taking this class, you'll have to take it again.
