Very interesting teacher and class. Very nice lady. Cares about the students and that they are learning. Need more like her.
Hard class, but she was fun. Good teacher.
You gotta love the in-class demos. "Okay, today we're going to tie a bunch of people together and pretend they are an assembly line." One of the best profs in CoB.
Great class, great prof. I think that she could beat me up though.
Do the homework track and email the homeworks to her and she will give you the right answers. Guaranteed A on all homeworks!!!
Do the homework option, it seems like a lot of extra work but it will save your butt. Many of the homework problems are on the exam.
Homework is optional, but i would advise you to do it because it will help you on test since some test questions are drawn directly from hw. She is teacher that uses ever second of class time and is a good instructor of the material. In class demo's were interesting and helped to convey ideas. One of the best teachers and a nice lady who wont take bull.
She is a very good professor. She explains things clearly and fully. Always willing to help out and takes an interest in her students. Very fair in grading. Makes all of her courses interestng!
AWESOME! The CoB needs more like her! She has worked in what she teaches & she knows her stuff. Her lectures are clear, interesting & helps you REALLY learn the material. Demos and handouts REALLY help. Do the homework option-it helps boost your grade & better prepares you for the tests. I'd love to go into OM just so I was guaranteed a good prof!
Best Professor at UC, Lectures are very interesting & she teaches in a way that helps you retain the information. Homework is optional, but if you don't choose to do it, you will regret it, It's easy and helps boost your grade. Book is needed for HW assignments, but all the material comes from lecture so you need to be there. wonderful professor!
Great prof! Uses examples from when she worked in the industry which really help you understand. Homework is optional, but I would recommend it.
DO THE HOMEWORK! Its optional whether or not you turn it in for a grade, but do it anyway. It will help tremendously. Great professor, almost made me want to switch to operations management.
This class was one of my favorites. She is great at teaching the material and will hold your interest throughout the entire class. She has a lot of real world experience that she draws from in her lectures, and also gives many in class demos which are very helpful. Like many others said, go to class and do the HW and you will get a good grade.
Great Prof. Ruth really knows her stuff. She didnt just learn it from a book, Shes lived it. The HW is optional but it really helped me. I suggest doing it. You can miss one HW but it'll really be in your favor not to. But be real, "Im really going to do my HW this quarter" means you didnt do it last quarter and your probably not going to this one.
absolutely amazing prof, knows what she is talking about, very interesting, funny, blunt-straight to the point, tells it like it is. take notes in class and although attendance not taken, GO! for those of you who had kellaris, she's better at holding your atten! do the hw and study notes, skim book, no surprises on tests. she's more than fair
Failure to attend class resulted in a lower grade for me. Not because of any attendance points (it isn't required to attend) but because the book doesn't explain the concepts as well as she can. She has a high energy level that makes class interesting.
service sector operations is a pretty cool class. Ruth as with any class makes it challenging but you'll learn a lot and she will be more than willing to help you understand everything. Probably could have taken a different professor and skated by with less effort, but wouldn't want to! Ruth is great!
I would recommend her for sure. If you want a good grade you have to go to class, she explains everything really well and keeps you interested. Definitely do the homework option, it will help you a lot on the tests.
She is a great professor! She uses in class demonstrations which are very helpful in learning. She is entertaining. Go to class and you will do well. And do the homework.
Ruth is AMAZING! She is very good at explaining things in real world situations. She is always available for help and gets back you very quickly through e-mail. Make sure to do the homework and the rest is easy from there. She is most likely my favorite prof I've had over my 3 years!
Ruth is great! She explains everything clearly. You get the option of doing homework for the grade or just being graded on three tests. Even if you don't do the homework for a grade it is essential that you do the homework to STUDY for the tests. She doesn't take attendance but GO TO CLASS! Stuff said not in book is on the test!
Great prof. just as previous rater said. DO THE HW. GO TO CLASS. Material can be tough but going to class will really help with her demos and everything. Not an easy A but she helps out a lot. Got an A but worked for it.
Absolutely fabulous professor. Fair grading, straight shooter
Great Prof. keeps it interesting, never lost focus. Demos are a great help, take great notes on them! Tests are not as bad as people claim, study, read, CHOOSE the HW option, its worth it! One of the best profs I've had at CoB
Somewhat of a tough class, but she tells you what she expects from you. Go to class, it will help.
Very interesting class. Was most class discussion. Learned a lot. 1 homework, 1 quiz, 1 final, 1 paper. Attendance not mandatory but extremely helpful for exam and paper. No book. Definitely recommend.
Good teacher, but you have to go to class to do well! she asks questions on the test from lecture. DO THE HOMEWORK.
GO TO CLASS. SHE WILL EXPLAIN EVERYTHING
One of the greatest teachers. She makes you understand by showing you. DO THE HOMEWORK! It will help you out majorly! GO TO CLASS! She throws things on the test from class! She is a GREAT teacher and you will learn a lot from her!
This class is a lot easier if you go to class. She is a good teacher in class, but sometimes it is hard to stay awake.
Ruth Seiple is a quality professor at the University. Fun, interesting and se genuinely cares about the students learning, they just have to care too. She has experience that helps the education.
DO THE HOMEWORK! Ruth gives you the option to not do it but if you want to do well in this class do the homework! Ruth's tests are by no means easy but they are straight forward and she never tries to trick you. In this course Ruth will challenge you however if you go to class and do the homework you will be golden for her course!
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! She really knows her stuff! very helpful when you go to her office hours...usually a a big group of students there so get there early. 3 exams and they're not easy! Best way to study is to do the homework...it gets tough and time consuming but you'll be more preparred for the tests...I was
Really interesting professor. Kept me interested even at 10am, hungover. She will do anything to make sure you know the material. Pretty useful information and is presented well. The textbook is actually pretty decent. DO THE HOMEWORK! Don't be that kid that doesn't do it because they missed the first assignment (or doesn't feel like doing it)!
AWESOME PROFESSOR! I can't wait to have her in more classes. She knows her stuff. Always keeps class interesting. Go to class or you won't do well. Study for the exams, and do the homework! It will help you on the exams! Ask her for help if you need it. She is always willing to help. Has good office hours too. Love this class!
Absolutley WONDERFUL professor!! If you have to take OM, take her! She's very entertaining in ALL of her lectures. She really knows her stuff and will help give you real world examples to help you understand something better. Her class isn't easy though. You HAVE to HAVE to HAVE to go to her class and do the homework.
She is a good teacher but her tests are nothing like what she goes over in class. You have to go to class to have a chance to get a good grade. Also do the Homework. Helps!
Ruth is not the best. If you are an OM major you will probably love her, if not you will probably hate her. She tries to get everyone to convert to OM. I did not like her class at all. If you have to take her, do the homework and go to every class.
Seiple makes this class 100 times harder than needed. 90% of the class will never use OM and she makes the tests impossible for an intro class.
Literally the best professor at UC. Helped me secure a job before I graduated. If you put in the work, she will take care of you. Lectures are always interesting thanks to her personality and work experience. Have taken 3 classes from her and received an A in all of them. DO THE HOMEWORK and go on the tours she schedules. The experience is valuable
She is really hardcore on OM materials and teach it like an OM major course even if you need this class for a different major you still get the hardcore OM materials that you don't need to know. She style doesn't fit well for people who aren't OM major. She doesn't teach from the textbook, she said it's awful, so she go off her own pp.
Ruth is a great professor, she has a lot of knowledge about her field (OM), which I don't know what more you could want from a college professor. Shes also very enthusiastic, and you can tell she cares about what she is teaching. Its not an easy 'A' but that's something college students need to get used to. Go to class, study and you'll be fine.
Dr Seiple's a great lecturer, and will only test you over what she goes over in lecture. She treats you like an adult doesn't insist on your coming to class but also doesn't put up super detailed notes (she does put up recordings of every class). Don't take this as a night class material is already hard 3 hour lecture time only makes it tougher.
Prof. Seiple is dedicated and shares her experiences with class to help understand the material. The exam often has questions from the anecdotal references she makes in class. Earlier homework assignments are easier, so do them well to get a flat one, Good Luck!
Prof. Seiple only provides certain slides from her lectures on Blackboard, so you HAVE to go to class. No test reviews + tons of material (equations/definitions) HARD tests. She sure knows her stuff, though. I highly recommend doing the homework even though it's optional. It saved my grade!
Incredible hard class for a marketing major like me, but by far the best professor I've had at the University of Cincinnati. Take this class if you really want to learn, if you're more worried about your GPA you may want to skip.
Key to success in this class: Attend class, take good notes, re-watch class on Echo360, do the homework, study theses flashcards -- https://quizlet. /Rosiley/folders/operations-management-seiple-fall-2016 No need to read the book. You just need the book for hmwrk. Class is very interesting! Just put in the effort and it will be manageable.
Amazing professor. Loves what she does & loves giving real life examples. Main things you must do: attend class, take detailed notes, pay attention, study before quizzes, and you'll do great. Effort must be given. Isn't the easiest class but she helps you understand the best she can. Definitely take with her if you have to take this class!
Do the homework!
Ruth is an awesome teacher! Class is not boring and I'd highly recommend going if you want to get a good grade in class. Take notes in class and the tests won't be that hard.
Great teacher with engaging lectures. She will challenge you and push you to work for a good grade but is extremely helpful and caring.
Ruth is awesome and her material directly applies to my co-op, having many connections. She really cares about her material and students. She encourages students to ask questions to ensure you understand. You must go to class to pass, the tests directly correspond to the test. Echo360 is great for review and if you miss. Attendance not mandatory.
Ruth is awesome. Probably my favorite teacher at UC so far. Definitely need to show up to class and study. I'd buy the online version of the book. I bought mine in a pdf file for like $8 and it worked perfectly fine.
Professor Seiple first and foremost is a fantastic professor. You actually learn in her class. She is hilarious, and really an inspiring womyn. Her quizzes can be tough, not going to lie. Reading the book is pointless (my test scores went up when I stopped reading), re-watch her lectures and take really good notes, and DO THE HOMEWORK.
The tests are the only thing besides optional homework the grade is based on. DO THE HOMEWORK. It helps you understand and prep for exams. This class definitely requires work but she is awesome. She'll answer questions and gives examples. Also brings in real world and lets you know of OM events. If you're interested in OM take her.
Ruth is a really nice lady, but her class is definitely a challenge. Unless you're in OM or IM, I don't think the material pertained to other majors very much. Homeworks are the only grades besides exams & it's only worth 25% of your grade overall if you choose to do them - which I would. If you don't take tests well, maybe try another professor.
very caring professor that always makes herself accessible to help students with any questions, class or career related. does a good job of relating material to real life situations. There are only a few grades in her class, so studying for her tests is critical (REWATCH HER LECTURES ON ECHO360), the tests can be tough. Awesome learning experience
Ruth is a great teacher, but she rushes through the material pretty fast. If I could go back, I would take the other guy at UC who my peers have said is an easy A. If you're into OM definitely take Ruth, but if you just have to get through it, find an easier professor. She doesn't curve tests, but ended up curving the overall grade at the end.
Only take Ruth if you are serious about OM. She is a great source of information and a great connect for the OM world, but her class is no joke. If you do end up taking her, MAKE SURE TO DO THE HOMEWORK. It is a huge help to your grade.
Being an IM major, I truly enjoyed this course. Ruth is a great person, a great professor, and a great contact to know. I thought that the material was fairly straightforward, so long as you study the material and go to class. You are graded on five tests, and you can elect to do homework or not (if you do the homework, it is basically a free 25%).
you can just watch the echo 360, but I recommend going to class. DO THE HOMEWORK!! she gives you the option but it'll help your grade. she rounds grades up at the end which is nice. she is tough and makes it harder than it needs to be but totally possible to get an A if you study. 5 tests so if you fail one its okay. very straight forward
One of the best professors I have ever had at UC. She will work with you and make sure you understand the material IF you come to her office hours. She genuinely cares about her students and wants you to learn! Absolutely adored her.
Ruth is by far one of the best professors you will ever have in your college career. OM is a heavy course but she somehow makes it interesting. I am a Marketing major but i like this class more than several of my marketing classes. She is a gift, UC is lucky to have someone who is genuine and cares about her students and content.
She doesn't post powerpoints so if you miss class or dont take notes while you're there you're screwed. Her tests are often difficult and she will often talk for 45 minutes about things that aren't on the test. Be prepared to work and not get much out of it.
By far the best class that I have taken and the best professor I have had. She makes the material as clear as she can and shows many examples to help you really understand what you are studying. She does not just give you the grade though, you do have to pay attention in class. She has a dry sense of humor that I like too.
Love love love Ruth. She is an amazing professor. Would 100% take her again or reccomend her to anyone. This class is very hard though. Definietly have to show up to class everyday or you will not pass. There aren't a lot of grades in the class, so do the homework. The exams are tough. Hard class, but great professor.
Do not take Ruth Seiple. The fact that she has a 4.5 rating blows my mind. Her tests, lectures, and homeworks have zero correlation to each other. She does nothing in class to help her students, the only things she does in class is scold you for writing down slides word for word. If you don't have a chegg account, don't even attemp the homework.
This class is very difficult for an intro class. If you are not majoring in OM, do not take this class. Homework, lectures, and tests have very little correlation and it is hard to know what to write down and what not to. If you are any other major, find an easier professor. This class isn't worth it.
Do not take her as a professor! Rambles on in class and would barely go over material. Cant study textbook because she doesn't use it. She worded exams so much more difficult than it needed to be. She is obsessed with OM but cant teach it. Exams are super hard- hardest class I have had so far at UC and worst professor....
Ruth is amazing, funny, and really knows what she is talking about. However, the exams are extremely tough and 75% of your grade depends on them (100% if you do not do the homework). Before tests I always think I know the material super well and can do it in my sleep, then I do bad on th exams because she words it weird and makes it more difficult
Ruth is a good professor overall. always making the lectures as easy to follow as she possibly could. She gave in class examples with students and videos for people who learn better visually. There were 4 exams that were kinda hard, unless you really grasp the topic. She tries to incorporate how all majors would work with those in OM. Not bad.
she has absoutly 0 sympathy she is not really there for your education she is there for her pay check. she knows a ton about OM but doesnt know how to tech it shes a business woman not a teacher. i highly recommend that you find another teacher weather that means you take it at another school DONT TAKE IT
Worst professor I have taken in my 4 years of college. NO LIVE CLASS. She has no sympathy and clearly does not care about her students. 5 quizzes20% of your grade. I was really sick with Covid and woke up 5 MIN LATE for a quiz. I emailed her 10 MIN AFTER IT CLOSED and she refused to let me take it. Got a 0/100 and had to WD. Wasted $1000 in loans.
You can either do the homework and quizzes or just the homework. Would personally recommend the hw option to keep you up to date. Some of the math can be a little tricky but is well explained. Tells great jokes, clearly cares about her subject and students, can be seen outside of class either in her office or at sporting events. Awesome teacher.
Great teacher. Just choose the HW and Quiz option for grading. Only grading on quizzes is much harder to get a good grade, the HW helps buffer and is easy with step similar work-throughs on Chegg. Ruth is trickster and will plant wrong answers for her quizzes on Chegg tho, so beware!
Worst class/prof I've had in Lindner. You have the option to be graded on homework & quizzes or just quizzes. I chose just quizzes and have struggled to keep a decent grade. The class is essentially asynchronous so get ready to teach yourself everything. Super boring, math heavy, and tests are hard. Take another professor if you can.
I love Ruth. Very clear explanations for the huge amount of content covered. Class is difficult but you learn a lot. The exams had easy questions along with many that test if you understand the material. Ruth provides you with everything you need, but its up to you to work to understand the material. Do the hw bc those help for tests & grade boosts
Worst class I've ever taken. Spends the entirety of her time and energy attempting to catch cheaters, not teaching. Her lectures were useless and often times made me wonder if I could make better use of my time. ThePowerPoints consisted of generic ClipArt that she used to share useless anecdotal experiences loosely tied to topics that week.
Literally impossible, lectures have nothing to do with tests. homeworks have nothing to do with tests. She goes on tangents about her old job and super specific things and barely gives any indication of how the tests are formatted.
Ruth Seiple is by far one of the most difficult professors I have ever had. You are solely graded on 5 "quizzes" and optional homework assignments. Her lectures have absolutely nothing to do with the exam and the wording on her exams makes everything so much more complicated. Clearly knows what she's talking about but doesn't know how to teach.
by far the hardest class i've taken to the point where i had to withdrawal so i don't get knocked off the dean's list. her lectures are super boring and never really helps with the content on the exam. you have to study everything on your own. there's a lot of math involved and you have to make sure you understand the formula which can be ambigious
I had high hopes for this course but I am left frustrated and disappointed. Ruth prides herself in how she doesn't make this intro level course easy for us. All I can say is choose the homework option and good luck on her tests, most of the math problems are a surprise. My best advice is find another professor.
A prof has never made me feel so insecure! I have NEVER put more hours of work or effort into a class to receive a C! I do not have a single C on my academic record so it's out of place for me. I think she finds joy in making things 10x more difficult for people and also putting emphasis on how "easy" things are when they clearly aren't. Not a fan.
She is the most unsympathetic and nasty professor. She is a terrible teacher. Her lectures have nothing to do with her exams; shocking because she just talks about her previous job, which again, who cares, it has nothing to do with setting me up for success and understanding operations management. If I could give her a lower score I would. Yuck
Ruths class is very tough. She's very strict and does not curve. She gives you the option if you want tests to count for 100% of your grade; or 75% test/25% homework. In order to be successful in her class you have go to every single class, do all the homework, and study hard for exams. Ruth has a lot of connections, so is she great for OM majors.
Reading the reviews I was terrified to take her class. I can honestly say she really isn't as bad as everyone made her out to be. I have no interest in OM and I had little trouble in this class. My only complaint is the way she words the exams can be very confusing. Attend class and set aside time to watch the videos she posts you will be fine.
CHOOSE THE HOMEWORK OPTION !!! GO TO CLASS OR WATCH THE CLASS RECORDINGS !!! you can't get through this class w/o watching/attending her lectures. That being said, she is actually super nice and her lectures do literally translate to test answers. pay attention to everything she says and choose the homework option! everything she says has a purpose
Ruth is one tough professor, however, she is very intelligent. If you care about grades more than learning I recommend you take another professor. Her lectures are very engaging and detailed. Even though Operations Management is not my thing she gives very good advice for majors outside of OM as well. Choose the HW option it will help overall.
the best thing for this class is to not go. watch every lecture and take notes. write down literally everything she says as 99% of it will turn into a quiz question. ruth is very intelligent and her lectures are very good, but she's tough. CHOOSE THE HOMEWORK OPTION study hard for every quiz from ur (detailed) lecture notes and you will be fine
Ruth is an awesome instructor. I love the way her lectures are structured. She has pedagogy and I never get bored with her lectures. If you want an A, watch every single lecture she posts and review her zoom meetings for help if you don't have time to attend them. Also, choose the homework and quiz option.
You can either do just quizzes or quizzes and hw for your grade. The hw takes a while but is easier than the quizzes. The quizzes are short and can be difficult if you do not pay attention. She occasionally cancels class and offers a help session. These sessions will allow you to get A's on the quizzes. Ruth loves her content but, it can be boring.
Ruth is the best professor I've had @UC. She really knows her stuff, as she has plenty of experience in the industry. She doesn't just teach from her slides and she always keeps her lectures interactive and efficient. She will never teach you something that's not useful. ALWAYS CHOOSE THE HOMEWORK OPTION! She's very honest and cares alot about you!
Ruth's class was great. She is very knowledgable about OM topics and would often bring in her real world experiences to the discussions. The concepts can be tricky, which is why you should choose the homework option to get some more practice. Take copious notes in class because the quizzes will ask very specific questions. Overall, she's great.
I'd do quiz only if I could do it over. I had a much better grade on the quizzes than the hw and I would have gotten an A had I done quiz only. She is also very obnoxious and extra. She doesn't do +'s or -'s on the grades because she has to be different about every possible thing. So if you have a 89, you may as well have just gotten an 80.
Professor Ruth is an engaging lecturer who shares real-world experiences. The course can be challenging, but choosing the homework option and taking detailed notes from her lectures is key to success. Unstuck AI was a great tool for quiz prep alongside the textbook.
Ruth is not very kind. Randomized attendence checks. She will hide behind her TA's and let them figure out problems. Was out for the flu for a week and missed a quiz and she said my doctor's note doesn't matter so I got a zero. She does not put her quizzes in there 'to do' list on canvas so you have to look hard for it. She cheated me out of an A.
ruth is terrible do anything not to take her, she is the least understanding professor i have every taken at this university there is a total or 19 assignments graded and that is your total grade. and to top it off she rounds your grade down and does not do +/-
Prof Seiple knows about her subject a lot. The lectures were made very interesting for a boring topic (imo). She did a good job explaining and keeping the class engaged. A majority of your grade is on weekly quizzes. These can be difficult at times but it makes you learn. She also takes 5 random attendance checks so prepare for that.
She is a horrible professor, and never communicates with her students on their actual grade. My grade was 27% lower than what was shown on canvas, luckily I still passed the class however she is awful. Doesn't teach then expects us to find all of our own homework and quizzes. Just all around horrible.
