Nice professor - really excited about teaching chemistry. Explains concepts well in class but to ace the tests, you HAVE to do problems from the book. She often repeats questions from her practice exam and those from the book. Know concepts and calculations. She's very helpful in office hours too, if you're struggling.
Horrible teacher, she always did the sample problem they showed you how to do in the book. SHE WAS WORTHLESS!!! At least ten people I know failed the class because of her poor teaching!!!!
She was HORRIBLE! If you get her withdraw very quickly. She was not helpful or understanding. She was monotone and if you're not already a chem genius then you're S.O.L.
not bad but could be better
Tough but fair, if you put in the effort in practice problems and the readings you will be just fine.
Excellent teacher. She really helps you understand the material if you are willing to put in the effort through textbook and sample practice problems! Her class is tough but totally doable, just don't expect to be great at it without practice.
great professor, she really knows the material and is tremendous at relaying that information to her students. as long as you put effort into her class, you might learn a thing or two
Good teacher. Uses textbook a lot. Does a demonstration around once every class period. Some test questions pulled straight from the textbook problems
gives lots of busy work and tests way harder than any work in class
Very fantastic professor. Engaged with the class, explained things very clearly. Some exam questions taken straight from text! Best to have for this section.
Fun demos and easy-to-understand explanations in lecture
She is very enthusiastic about teaching. She makes class worth going to. Gen Chem is awful but if you have to take it; take it with her.
She is a good professor who is excited about Chem. She does a lot of sample problems but don't give you enough definition to work with when your doing the problems on your own. She does demonstrations which are very interesting and helpful in relating material you learn. The test are hard but you can drop the lowest grade with your final if higher.
Professor Tucker is amazing. I went into chem 113 not having taken 111 for two years. She is eager to help and direct you to other helpful resources. She has a great attitude and really simplifies things in lecture. I told her some concerns I had and she went as far as to apply it directly to her lecture style. Highly recommended, amazing teacher
Her lectures are clear and precise and does examples in class that reappear on homework and tests. Not my favorite class, but she is a good professor
Professor Tucker has a passion for chemistry and she works hard to give her students all the information they need to succeed. She works many examples of problems in class, but extra practice is necessary to get a good grade. She is helpful by assigning a couple problems from the textbook after each class. The final can replace your lowest exam.
The class itself is a lot of hard work but Tucker does a really good job in her lectures. She does lots of practice problems in class and she's really helpful. She's enthusiastic about chemistry and really fun to learn from. She does what she can to help her students succeed. Be warned though, the tests for her class are really hard.
Answers questions from students in lecture to best of her ability Goes over MANY sample problems Goes over how to do clicker questions in detail She loves what she does, and it makes class that much more enjoyable. Never missed a lecture.
She is a great teacher. You do have to work for your grade but as long as you show up to class and pay attention then you should be fine. This is a hard class purely because it is a weed out class. If you need help be sure to go to office hours. She is by far one of my favorite teachers.
Dr. Tucker is very enthusiastic about teaching and tries her best to keep chemistry entertaining and interesting. Tests are tough, but that wont change with what professor you have.
Tucker has been my favorite professor so far. She is a genius and loves what she does. She does demos almost every class and makes every day interesting. Lots of iclicker questions and practice problems help get the information down. Really hard class with lots of work that kicked my ass but Tucker made it fun.
Tucker explained things in a vague manner, almost textbook-like, that is difficult to follow. Many of her examples were mixed up and she spend a lot of time corrected teaching mistakes she has made.
Ruth is an excellent teacher and I learn so much this semester. The exams are very difficult and require a lot of studying. I studied from 7:30 am to 12:00pm every day for 5 days before the exams and got Bs, might be different for others but expect to study a lot.
She knows what she is doing when it comes to chemistry, and is pretty good at teaching it if you actually pay attention during lectures. If you don't get distracted during lectures, and understand the iclicker questions/aleks you will be able to get a good grade in the class.
Dr. Tucker seems nice enough but turned out to be very unhelpful overall. The test questions are horribly written so be prepared to miss some questions even though you fully understood the material. She also manages to breeze over topics that happen to be important for the test. I started to understand a lot more by watching Dr. Mies online.
She was a very tough teacher and her lectures were not beneficial at all for me. I ended up watching the other professors lectures online and I saw more than an entire letter grade of an improvement on the tests. I would not recommend Ruth Tucker for anyone.
Dr. Tucker's enthusiasm for chemistry made it way easier to make myself go to class-- something that everyone should do for general chemistry. Make sure you plan to commit time to studying outside of class. I used TILT study groups and tutoring. Also be sure to prepare for test more continuously than just the night or day before.
Care about the material.
Dr. Tucker is passionate about what she teaches. Based on what I've heard from other students, she is one of the best choices for Chem 111. Go to class, go to office hours, and study very hard for tests. This is not an easy A class - you will have to work for an A or A+, but it is doable if you use the resources available to you.
Very quirky and funny
Dr. Ruth was truly inspiring, I switched my major to chemistry due, in part, to her. She's passionate about what she teaches, is enthusiastic, and is entertaining. This was not an easy class, in order to get a good grade you had to do the homework, read the book, and pay attention in lecture. I highly recommend taking her for CHEM111 if you can.
Dr. Tucker is amazing. Chemistry is really hard for me and I went it to her office hours and she was amazing about taking time to help me individually. She's supportive and will work with you until you understand what you need to. I definitely recommend reading the text before class, she gives a little less background than other professors might...
Lectures were boring and there was a lot of homework
She's basically useless and you will have to go to other lectures with other professors to be able to pass this class. I really don't understand how she's still a professor. Beware you will fail if you stay in her class, she doesn't teach to the test and talks about absolutely nothing during the first 30 minutes of lecture.
Dr. Tucker is a witty and hilarious professor. The lecture is packed with slides of information and has clicker questions worth points. The class is fairly easy but exams are hard. Just make sure to do the busy homework which is super easy. Some homework like ALEKS and Smartwork is hard but isn't bad. Study for this class and you should be fine!
Dr. Tucker is a great woman. I attended office hours nearly every week and most of the time she was very helpful. Upon occasion attending office hours was not helpful. ALEKS and SmartWork are just terrible, but that chalks up to CSU's mediocre chemistry program. Tucker slips in a few jokes in lecture to keep things fresh and fun.
Dr. Tucker is an amazing professor. Her lectures are clear, specific, and full of example problems, and she teaches to the tests so you will know exactly what you need to study. She keeps lectures relatively fun with super cool demonstrations and and humor throughout. I would definitely take her class again.
Dr. Tucker was the best chem prof I've ever had. She does her part to help students succeed. Most people don't like gen chem, and will blame the nature of the class on the professor. However, Dr. Tucker was great. Her lectures were very informative and fun. Go to class! Homework and clicker points really add up and can save your grade.
Dr. Tucker is awesome! Chemistry at CSU is difficult, but Dr. Tucker makes learning CHEM 111 really smooth. She goes fast in lectures, but always teaches the material clearly. She is super enthusiastic and is always available to in office hours. I look forward to having her again for CHEM 113!
Dr. Tucker has brought to life the ideal chemistry course for me. All of the material was lectured to us articulately and sometimes she would finish it all off with an actual live demonstration of certain chemical reactions which makes me so pumped about chemistry, I'm so excited to have her again for 113!
Dr. Tucker is a wonderful professor. She always makes sure everyone is listening and she will do experiments in class to show you what she is talking about. She is my favorite Chem Professor so far and I wold recommend taking her class because she wants to take the time to make sure everyone understands all of the material.
The class is hard, but Dr. Tucker is okay. There are issues with the fundamentals of the class, but Dr. Tucker will take questions and will email you back quickly. Not unmanagable, but does waste a lot of lecture time. Has about 2-3 iclickers per class, but spends 15 minutes chatting in the beginning and 5-10 on demonstrations.
Chemistry at CSU are probably the hardest classes I've ever taken, but Dr. Tucker does make it easier. She fills lectures with slides, demonstrations, and practice problems. The material can be dry, but she does her best to keep everyone entertained and listening. I highly respect her and recommend taking her class over other professors if possible
Although chem is a tough class and all the chem classes have the same homework requirements, she makes it fun and Intresting in lecture and shes always available for office hours and emails back very quick.
Dr. Tucker teaches really difficult courses. Chemistry is not an easy class to take nor teach, but she makes it fun and easy to follow. Lectures are kind of boring and there are at least 3 clicker questions every class. Very homework heavy and test heavy but you should never walk out of class without knowing about the assignments.
very hard class. She is funny and explains very well. all chem111 classes have to do the same things (hw tests ect) but she does a great job at explaining everything. I am taking her again bc I she simplifies things.
Dr. Tucker was an amazing Chemistry Professor for this course. Goes out of her way to make every concept engaging and simple. Wants to share her passion and has lots of examples and demonstrations.
Great professor! I don't like chemistry but I really enjoyed Chem 111 just because of Dr. Tucker! The course itself has a lot of homework, no matter your professor, but Dr. Tucker is good about reminding us when stuff's due and encouraging us to stay on top of work. She ends every lecture with "Lastly, if you ride a bike, please wear a helmet" lol
Dr Tucker's lectures are really slow, so it's nice if you need a slower pace, but it's frustrating when she can only get to one example per class. I found that a lot of the learning in this class came from the homework. She's super funny, always happy to help, and always trying to make chemistry more fun.
Information taught in class isn't even on the exams. She states that. All the info you have to learn you teach yourself through the homework.
Not sure why Dr. Tucker would get a single bad review. She cares about you learning and her lectures are so beneficial because she actually teaches. If you pay attention by sitting in the front, the homework is a lot easier. If you do all the homework and study hard, you'll do great. She's amazing and loves everything about chemistry.
Let me state first of all chem is never gonna b easy and the people who have given her bad ratings are dumb and didnt put work into this class and are trying to blame the professor. She is clear, in her teaching and takes it slow so everyone can follow and understand. She will meet and discuss outside of class. If possible 100% take chem with her!
Tucker's class is the only one that I enjoy going to and where I'm not constantly checking the clock to see when class will be over. She goes through multiple example problems when teaching a new concept to help you understand each process. She does demo labs that are always awesome. She is willing to help whenever you have any kind of question!
I loved Dr. Tucker so much, I wish she was my mother. But my point is she was the best professor I could ask for for my first year in college, especially for chemistry. She is super clear in her lectures and even though the homework is time consuming, it helps. Take her for chemistry if you get the chance!
One of the most kind hearted professors and is truly a sweet women. This class is very tough and very fast paced. If you do not read the book and understand the concepts before class you will be very lost in lecture. Ms Tucker is not the best teacher but not the worst, however she is very sweet and is always willing to help.
Very helpful professor. Always accessible after class or during office hours, and always willing to help and answer any questions. Her lectures are good, informative, entertaining, and engaging. The attendance policy is very reasonable - you have to go sometimes, but its okay to miss. Lots of buffer points with homework to make up for exams.
Dr. Tucker is a sweet lady but I have not learned much in her class. The way the material is taught is confusing , which makes homework and studying for exams frustrating, Might as wee give my tuition money towards the TAs or student tutors.
ruth tucker is the worst. she is so confusing and babbles on about irrelevant things. she is no help to those who are struggling and is mean when confronted. do not take this class with her. (just avoid taking chem at CSU if you can)
Very tough, overloads you with homework and tests are difficult. Plus you get to take an exam every 3 weeks, fun...
Freshman weedout class plain and simple. Not there to help or teach just burn people out.
The material is dry, but she explains it with enthusiasm. CHEM113 is difficult (a weed-out), and to succeed you need to show up, do the work, ask questions, and study. This professor gives you all the tools to succeed and teaches well, and I respect her for it.
The chemistry department at CSU sucks - the class itself is hard and lots of homework. But Dr Tucker makes it much better - definitely the best professor for any chem class at CSU. The lectures are engaging and she's always willing to help.
Chem is hard, but Dr. Tucker is an amazing communicator. She lectures with enthusiasm and always speaks clearly. Watch her lectures, and you will have no problem in the class. 10/10 would take again.
This is a very difficult class but Dr. Tucker made it a little easier. She's definitely passionate about the material and wants us to succeed. But I do think that the class is in dire need of some reorganization because to me it seemed that the lectures, homework, and exams weren't on the same page in terms of material.
CSU's Chem department sucks, but Dr. Tucker herself really helps to lessen that feeling. There is a lot of work and material to be done and learn, but she makes it interesting. She's the best professor I've had for chem at CSU yet. I wish she taught higher level chem. She gives you what you need to succeed.
She has no idea how to teach. Nothing on the exams was explained in lecture. Exams do not represent the lecture material. She speaks like we are all chem majors and know what she is talking about.
I believe Tucker was a MUCH better professor in person than online. Unfortunately, she has put little to no effort into putting this course together for an online format. Lectures are all prerecorded and blurry from last year, quizzes are prewritten from last year (very confusing), and there is very little test help or prep. Very disappointing.
I love chemistry. At least I loved chemistry. This class made me drop my pre-vet track, maybe I just cant do chemistry online. But the lectures didnt match what was on the exam, and theres TONS of homework that you HAVE to stay on top of. I did fine in the class but good god dont take this class while its online.
I took this course virtually and I have to say the class itself was extremely disorganized. To do well in this class you must stay on top of homework and study as much as possible. Utilize office hours - Dr. Tucker will always provide feed back and help you solve problems. I spent nearly everyday of the week doing chemistry just to stay on track.
I took this class with professor tucker years ago where I got my first C EVER. Professor tucker did not set you up for success. She lectures without making sure people understand. She does not teach, she announces. Her tests had questions that were NEVER covered in class or in the book. DO NOT take this professor!!
I respect Dr. Tucker a lot and believe she is really intelligent, but the online structure of this class did not work for me. The office hours were essentially a repeat of the lecture videos given, and it would've been beneficial to use the office hours as problem practice and review instead.
While a lot of people don't seem to like Dr. Tucker, the way she explains things works really well for me. You do have to put in work for this class and won't do well if you don't show up or get behind, but the people who put in time seem to do better. Not at all condescending in her explanations (would explain 2+2 if you needed help with that).
Overall, I liked Dr. Tucker. She has an easy to understand teaching style and is direct and to the point. She really tries to make her lectures fun, but lets be honest CHEM 113 is just not going to be the most exciting class ever. I recommend really trying to do well on the first few exams, as they get progressively harder over the semester.
Not very helpful even though she teaches one of the hardest classes at CSU.
Super funny but also knows how to teach AND in a timely manner. Made chem bearable but the reading/homework makes or breaks how much stuff makes sense. Its worth it to pay attention.
L class. L professor. homegirl deadass spends the entire lecture talking about like 3 concepts and doesnt teach the math concepts AT ALL. i went to her office hours to get help and she didn't help me for 50 mins and only "helped" by telling me to check my sigfigs after i literally started crying. stupid b word.
i find Tucker to be one of the rare good chem professors at csu, shes really kind and tries her best to make chem interesting. The whole chemistry department at csu kinda sucks with the amount of hw and how test-heavy most classes are, but tucker is among the best chem professors you can get
Dr. Tucker is a great professor. I thought her lectures were easy to follow and applicable to the exams and to real life. Show up to class and pay attention! The textbook is awful and you will learn nothing from it. As long as you show up and pay attention, you will be fine. Also, do the practice exams several times, spaced out, it helps!
Great professor and was able to do the unthinkable: make chemistry understandable. Sometimes her lectures are very math heavy where we watch her work through a RICE table for 50 minutes. Other than that, she applies the concepts to every day life simplifies them, and is happy to help you.
Dr. Tucker is a good professor, she helps make chemistry understandable and easy to work through. The iClickers every class are annoying, but not weighted super heavily, and if you don't want to go into class or miss the lectures are recorded which is nice. Tests can be tricky, but as long as you stay on top of things and pay attention she's good.
I'm more harshing on the course rather than Dr. Tucker here, but Gen Chem II is DIFFICULT. If you take this course, please make sure you're getting help when you need it. I went through the whole semester feeling confused and now I'm not sure if I will pass... Just get ready for some difficult concepts!
Ruth was a great professor. She really cares about her students and makes the content digestible. If you are having a hard time understanding concepts from previous chemistry classes refresh your memory. Also use the resources they give you! (P.S. if you put effort in and get reasonable grades on most of the assignments she is willing to round)
Professor Tucker is great at explaining complicated topics and her lectures are very engaging - she also responds directly to emails despite having TA's which I appreciated very much. Homework is due almost every day and about 70% of your final grade is test based. This class DID ruin my semester but not by any fault of the professor.
Even if I was a chemistry major I would NEVER take her again. Homework is due every day making it hard to stay ahead when you have other classes/a job. Important aspects aren't discussed but end up on the test so make sure to always read. On average 12-16 hours a week is needed to finish assignments and study as there's an exam every 3 weeks.
Dr. Tucker is used to a higher level of Chemistry and was not able to break down the material enough for others to understand. Materials that are only in the textbook are on the test. assignment heavy, and homework heavy. The best way to take this course would be with no other classes, all free time would be studying for exams every 3 weeks.
Dr. Tucker teaches a tough course, but that's an issue with the content itself and not her. I definitely struggled, but she did a pretty good job of breaking down concepts and teaching them in an easily digestible way. She does her job perfectly fine, and I wouldn't mind taking another course with her.
I LOVED Dr. Tucker. Her lectures are funny (so many cat puns), she always includes problems and explains how to do them, and always does fun demonstrations. She is incredibly smart and caring about her students. The difficulty is not of her, but mostly of the course. She is amazing at being able to explain complex terms. Thank you, Dr. Tucker!
Love Dr. Tucker. The course itself is rough; the exams are tricky and your grade highly depends on how you do on them. There is homework about five days a week which is hard to manage. Dr. Tucker is the reason I am passing this class. She is highly accessible through email and office hours, and has extended deadlines on tons of homework I missed.
Dr. Tucker herself is great, but the course is rough. Homework every single day but it's easy points. The tests are the thing that matters. Your test scores will determine the grade you get in the class. She definitely cares about helping her students though and that is really important. Not an easy class but its manageable.
I thought Dr Tucker was great and overall a good professor but goes through slides and concepts very quick making it hard to understand. There is homework almost every night and exams are hard and have many trick questions.
She genuinely cares about the success of her students. Lectures are engaging and helpful and reflect what's on the tests.
Loved this professor, she was really amazing at teaching and passionate. The annoying thing is there is mass amounts of homework so try and get ahead at beginning of year. Test are basically only thing that determines grade might be better off guessing than actually trying to study.
she is kind and will give extensions, hard tests but online
Dr. Tucker is a wonderful person and I always appreciated how fun and entertaining she made her lectures. This class is by far the most challenging and time consuming class I have taken at CSU. There are homework assignments almost everyday and your grade is heavily reliant on your exam scores. LA's are wonderful and were more useful than lecture
Dr. Tucker is so supportive, she really wants you to succeed and makes lectures entertaining. It's a 4 credit college chemistry course so expect it to be challenging, but with her extensions/resources/etc. it is absolutely possible to pass or get an A if you put the work in. I hadn't taken chemistry in 8 years and found the course very manageable.
Shes so awesome
Good professor that answers quick to emails considering how large her class is, you can ALWAYS get an extension on homework. However, this class was living hell for me. She is very funny, but she could definitely go over the test material more than random things that aren't really needed for the course. Still insanely hard.
She is an amazing teacher! Chemistry can be pretty hard, but she makes the lectures fun and does a good job at explaining. There are a lot of example problems in class and many opportunities outside of class to get help.
Dr. Tucker is an awesome professor. Super understanding and gives engaging lectures. The class is very difficult, and the homework is really extensive, time-consuming, and frustrating. That being said, going to class is not really necessary because there is so much homework. Dr. Tucker is great but Chemistry is certainly not for everyone!
I loved this class and she made it easy to understand. There is participation, but it's online and can be done from anywhere. There is a lot of homework, but it's all online and doesn't take too long if you stay on top of it. The platform also does a good job at explaining it if you get a question wrong. Tests are online with a webcam + aren't bad.
Dr. Tucker was amazing, but the course was extremely difficult. You have at least 3-4 assignments every week and 6 exams. Go to the cohorts, review sessions, and office hours, and you will pass. I didn't find the actual lecture to be helpful, so all my learning came from my own studying, which is definitely time-consuming. Shes very helpful though
I loved taking chemistry with Dr. Tucker. It is definitely one of the more challenging courses I have taken at CSU, but having Dr. Tucker made is so much easier. She really wants you to succeed and offers so many opportunities for help. There is a lot of online homework but it is absolutely manageable if you stay up to date. Highly recommend!
Great professor terrible material. 5 exams and the last one was the weekend before the final still made us take the final. Near nightly homework on materials that sometimes wasn't covered in class.
Dr. Tucker is a passionate and lively professor. CHEM 107 is very challenging and requires a lot of in-class and out-of-class work. ALEKS is used for homework and it is a lot of work! The tests are on Lockdown browser and they require a lot of practice problems beforehand. Overall Dr. Tucker was extremely helpful and wants her students to succeed!
Lectures are graded for points, attendance matters. Interactive lectures but a little mind-numbing. It's not too difficult but if you don't know something, it is hard to catch up. Make sure you know the foundations to succeed. Tests are online with respondus.
Dr.Tucker Is genuinely the best professor I have ever had. She is so passionate about everything she teaches and her love for the material is infectious even though it's chemistry. She does everything in her power to see you succeed and she is so funny, just the best. Her lectures aren't boring and she does experiments to keep it interesting
The best professor I have ever had, makes a diffuclt class so fun with her insane demonstrations.
Dr. Tucker was amazing. After not taking a chemistry for years since high school she made the class fun and easy to learn from. There are weekly assignments & exams every few weeks (which she offers retakes for each one). Overall an amazing professor and wish I could have her again next semester.
CHEM107 with Dr. Tucker is challenging but manageable with dedication. The extensive homework and frequent tests require a lot of work, but the professor is extremely helpful. Using Unstuckstudy along with the provided resources can make study prep much more efficient.
Just show up to class and actually do the homeworks and you will do good. She is also very easy to reach in person and through email.
This professor has been a highlight of my school career. She cares, genuinely wants her students to succeed, and is passionate. She lectures beautifully, has all her lectures on 360, and has phenomenal slides that, when downloaded, have full explanations in the speaker's notes. Chem is hard, but I am INCREDIBLY grateful. Show up, you'll do great!
I really enjoyed this class Ruth Tucker is a total sweetheart and is so funny. There's a decent amount of workload and plenty of resources for you to use to get help. The exams are proctored online- and you are able to do retakes so there is really no reason you don't pass.
Dr. Tucker is by far one of the best professors/teachers i've ever had in my LIFE. She makes lecture so fun and engaging, the in-class experiments she does are awesome. There are i-clicker questions every day, and there are HW assignments due most nights, but it's more than manageable if you stay on top of it. The exam retakes were a blessing!
Ruth is the Goat, dont disrespect her she da queen of CSU.
