She is a very sweet woman, but I found her tests and quizzes to be difficult, I just don't think that I was prepared enough for what was given to me. But like I said she is nice and funny, but I would rather have a good grade.
Mrs. Verdolin is a very nice teacher. If the class doesn't understand something, she will go out of her way to make sure we do. She usually will tell you exactly what will be on tests and quizzes so that you know what to study. But her voice is very low, so if you sit in the back im sure you woudlnt be able to hear her. Overall she is a great prof.
Awful teacher. Basically an independent study class. Only goes over vocab words and practice problems in class- doesn't actually teach the material. I found tests and quizzes difficult. 1 oral exam and 1 writing comprehension. However, she's a pretty nice person, just not a good teacher.
Very nice lady, but a terrible teacher. You learn everything on your own & class is SO boring. She's very helpful if you ask, but it is so hard to pull up your grade because the tests & quizzes are difficult. If you have her, study hard on your own, PARTICIPATE, don't skip class, and write long compositions with a lot of vocab!
Nice, helpful, wants students to do well and really seems to care about students.
Nice professor, but doesn't teach the material well. I taught myself everything from the book, never took notes. Tells you exactly what's on tests/quizzes, and if you study on your own time you'll do fine.
I had Verdolin as my first ever college Spanish course and she was AWESOME. A bit of a stickler on attendance, as well as not using phones or laptops but she was GREAT. definitely reccomend, did minimal work and studying and earned an A. Reviews for tests, tests are starighforward no surprises. Just as easy as any high school spanish course.
Very nice teacher! She is extremely helpful, especially on oral and writing exams. Her tests and quizzes are easy. I recommend taking this class with this professor.
Very bad with make-up work and if you are sick or miss class for any reason, she will make your life very difficult. She is very easy on grading though. If you are good at spanish and can do it all on your own, take this class.
Pretty chill class. She demands attention and will call you out, but honestly people, it's college. Easy tests and assignments, probably because the course material itself is easy. She grades very leniently. Won't learn too much grammar/writing skills, though.
Ruth is an alright teacher. She wants you to succeed, but she definitely isn't there to baby you throughout the semester. She's gives you all the deadlines in advance, so you better know when things are due. She is slightly condescending (I thought it was hilarious), but if you do not feel confident enough to speak spanish in class, look elsewhere.
Not helpful at all. Acts helpless. Talks so fast and expects that we all understand.
Ruth is a great teacher. She knows very well the material and wants students to learn the language.
Mrs Verdolin is very professional and polite with students. I learned a lot in her class.
I enjoyed the openss for discussion and questions
This teacher is always patient and I increased my confidence in Spanish
Pros: She is an extremely lenient grader. If you argue with her on a question she usually gives everyone credit for it. She sometimes grades things 2 or 3 times, but each time she grades it your grade goes up. She has a good personality. Cons: Absolutely does not tolerate cell phone in the class.
Ruth has a lot of energy and expect the students to work hard. She wants you to learn and have a good grade too.
Ruth gives very clear explanations about grammar. The professor believes in you. She is fair and will grade you accordingly
She made class very enjoyable. She's awesome!
She makes interaction in Spanish easy and fun. I learned a lot.
Ruth was fantastic. She taught well and commented on our conversation. I speak better Spanish because of this class and I'm glad I took it with her. I enjoyed working in groups, I enjoyed how she did the last oral exam and I enjoyed the conversational Spanish we used during class
She will teach you and you will really learn
rUTH IS A VERY CLEAR TEACHER AND KNOWLEDGEABLE. I WILL TAKE HER CLASS AGAIN.
This is one of the best profesor I have had. She is clear and inspirational.
I thought Ruth was an amazing and caring professor and I am very sad for this class and my time with her to end
Teacher is very passionate about subject and students. I learned a lot
We were challenged to learn the language in this course but I enjoyed this because it encouraged me to learn the language.
I did not find her to be condescending. She just expects participation and effort from her students. She tends to bring up really controversial topics and may seem condescending when opinions are presented, but she is trying to fuel conversation which ends up being helpful. Tests and quizzes are very easy
Mrs Verdolin helped me to expand my knowledge of not only the Spanish language but Spanish culture as well. The professor allowed for us to have open conversations in Spanish which helped me to learn Spanish.
I think Mrs Verdolin teaches . Ruth Verdolin was very enthusiastic about the course and helping her students understand the material. We also have fun in the class
Basically class is just her talking to you about nothing and you teach yourself the entire material over Connect online but if you like Spanish then you will be fine. She is a fun lady and test and quizzes are easy.
I really liked how we would sometimes talk about a current event going on in our world. It truly helped me understand spanish better, and made me more fluent in speaking. You were very helpful when there were technical difficulties with Connect. I loved this class
I thought that we went through the information at a good pace, working on the fluency of our Spanish. So the goal of the course in my mind was well executed.
Mrs Verdolin prepared us well. The tests were all very fair and went along with what we studied. She is a very dedicated teacher as well as knowledgeable. I will take her class again
I thought Ruth was an amazing and caring professor and I am very sad for this class and my time with her to end.
The teacher was very helpful and always tried to engage us in class. The course is very well designed. The quizzes, tests, and homework are consistent and well-organized. Iwill take her class again.
She was a wonderful professor! She was very concerned about her student understanding the material. She would do anything in her power to help us if we didn't understand something. I would recommend her to everyone.
Ruth was an EXCELLENT instructor! All of her efforts to make this course flow smoothly and to aid all of my classmates and I in truly grasping the language. GO RUTH!!!
I really enjoyed her teaching style. It was interactive, so it was hard to get bored. Activities in class and for homework definitely helped with learning. Also, she explains anything we have trouble with in class.
Verdolin did a great job at getting the whole class to participate in discussions over the work and the activities in the book.
The teacher always made sure we understood the material before moving on. She also would go over any questions from the homework that a bunch of people missed.
Ruth is very approachable and while she is committed to us learning spanish she understands that this is a required college requirement for most of us. She also made class entertaining with her upbeat personality and quirky ways. It was also nice that she was interested in us as people and not just as one semester students.
Ruth has a great personality and engages her students. She was willing to work with me to do well in class.
Ruth did a great job at getting the whole class to participate in discussions over the work and the activities in the book. I will take classes with her again.
Coming from someone who usually hates Spanish I didn't mind this class. It was way easier than I expected. There's hw due online every class but it's easy. Verdolin is very nice and you can tell she cares about her students but sometimes she struggles to explain a concept well if someone didn't get it the first time. Attendance is also important
I really enjoyed her teaching style. It was interactive, so it was hard to get bored. Activities in class and for homework definitely helped with learning. Also, she explains anything we have trouble with in class. Ruth is a great teacher!
Ruth is funny, but sometimes not that clear. If you've taken SPAN1110 at UGA, this class will be very easy. Ruth normally just talks through the grammar and vocab rather than going through at teaching, which can be difficult if you are not familiar with it and good at Spanish. Overall, still a decent Spanish teacher.
This class was one of the worst Spanish classes I've ever been a part of, and still to this day the only one I have received less than an A in. She DOES NOT teach, she reads the textbook to you. Her quizzes are tough, as well as all the other assignments. Think you'll get a 100 in participation for showing up and speaking? Think again. DO NOT TAKE
Ruth is a great teacher. She cares about her students and want them to learn, and achieve a good grade.
She can be sort of tough, but she was the best Spanish teacher I have had at UGA. She is pretty good at explaining things and helping you when you struggle.
I was able to learn a great more about Spanish grammar and tenses in the sense that I understand conjugation and when/why to use them. On top of that I strengthened my speaking fluency. This was all due to Professor Verdolin taking the time for us to comprehend the material and providing clarity. I don't see anything that needs to be improved.
She is really nice and funny without always meaning to be, but sometimes she is a bit disorganized. There are a lot of little quizzes, online homeworks, and other activities but if you do the work it isn't too hard. She does a pretty good job of explaining more difficult grammar concepts.
Ruth is a great choice for a Spanish professor! She truly cares for her students and I really enjoyed her class. The work load was not heavy at all and assignments were not difficult. She was always open to questions or concerns and just wants to see you succeed in the class! I only wish she talked more in Spanish.
She is awesome and very funny, but there is a ton of homework and she's not super helpful with technical problems in the online homework
Ruth is an excellent teacher. She sees potential in every student. Her goal is to make you learn the language. She will make you work towards the best grade.
online homework
Ruth is a phenomenal person, but a mediocre teacher. She has an emphasis on speaking in spanish, but she doesn't really push the grammar. She said that she wouldn't teach grammar unless we asked her for specific things. Homework based off myspanishlab. She has to give tests made by the UGA spanish department, so you're at a disadvantage.
During the semester, we had two substitute teachers and I learned more from them in those two days than I did the entire semester with Ruth. She is sweet and caring, but she doesnt teach, more just reads from the book and does exercises youve already done. If you take her, prepare to 100% learn the material on your own.
I was able to learn more and it was beneficial while studying for tests because I could recall corrections that were made in the class.
Ruth was very helpful ans tried her best to help everyone in the class. She utilized resources and provided different ways to teach the class.
Ruth genuinely cares about all of her students. She makes sure everything is graded fairly. She's a great teacher when it comes to grammar, and her lectures are more like conversations (which are super entertaining and funny). Take this class and your speaking skills will definitely improve.
Ruth is hilarious and always tells stories during class. She really cares about her students and engages in group discussion a lot to promote learning, but students can talk about almost anything. There's a few boring activities, but for the most part, it's a fun class, and if you need to take upper level Spanish, take Ruth.
I believe that Ruth is an amazing teacher. I could tell she really cares about her students and their education. I have been enrolled in spanish classes since the 7th grade and I have never had someone teach me spanish as well as her. She is extremely fair with her grading and always does what she can so that her students succeed.
Really enjoyed the format of trying to get people to talk through "controversial conversation". Its fun to argue over things and encourages people to speak in Spanish more conversationally. Days we went over grammar were also very useful. Overall really enjoyed the class!
I loved Ruth. Her energy was contagious and was definitely needed to keep us engaged. She was a wonderful professor. Very fair. We had fun and learned a lot.
I LOVE RUTH!! she is so funny and makes class entertaining. The class is not too bad, but you do need to study to do well. Overall I really loved this class!
She is so nice and so lenient. She just wants students to learn and get good grades. If you show up and study the textbook, you will get an A. There is homework but it is easy and all online. If you need to take Spanish 2001, take it with her.
really knowledgeable and willing to help and give points where she can
I would so so so recommend this teacher!!! She has been absolutely incredible and I have taken Spanish in high school but learned it much differently and in an interactive way from her. She makes class so fun with her really amazing life stories and personalities. She wants you to do your best and gives you more than enough opportunities to do it.
I loved Ruth!! She made the classes so entertaining, and did a really good job of teaching the material. This was not a hard class, but there is a lot of Connect homework, which is really easy but somewhat time consuming. Quizzes and assignments are easy as long as you study a little bit. Overall, this was a great class!
Ruth is such a great and interesting lady and I can honestly say I nearly enjoyed coming to class. She does her best to ensure that students do well. Her tests are straightforward and easy as long as you pay attention and study a little. Only thing I'd say is that you have to be prepared to ask questions if you don't understand something.
This class was definitely challenging, but not without support from an awesome teacher. Ruth Verdolin was extremely kind, understanding, and humorous. I made an A in the class and would absolutely take her again. Very respected and liked by students! You have to put the work in though, she wont pick up your slack!
The class was very interactive with the teacher and the conversations were interesting as well. The teacher liked and respected everyone in her classroom. The course was interesting in that there were discussions which increased class participation and allowed students to practice communication in Spanish.
Ruth is the best professor I have ever had. She made class very enjoyable and the atmosphere very comfortable. She is very understanding and tries her best to help every student succeed. She also helps prepare us for quizzes by highlighting what we need to study.
if you don't feel like getting up in front of class approximately 1 million times per class stay far away from her. she grades participation way harder than what's necessary. i spoke at least once every class and got an 80 so do with that information what u will :)
Compared to other students in the same level of Spanish, she was a much harder grader. My class was full of fluent students and I was not fluent which may have caused bias. Also, she requires participation everyday. In my experience, class time was very inefficient. Instead of reviewing material, we would discuss current events in spanish countries
A lot of homework, but it's not hard and you get 3 tries. You MUST speak in class each day and pay attention. NO phones or grade goes down. Hard teacher, but if you're willing to work, you will improve in learning the language. Many assignments, but all reviewed thoroughly beforehand (quizzes, tests, readings, oral examinations). DO NOT SKIP CLASS.
The best Spanish professor Ive had so far. Ruth is so caring and invested in her class, and it shows. Attendance is mandatory and you MUST participate in class, but she makes it fun so it doesnt feel like youre working for your grade. Its what helped me learn the language the most I think.
I think Ruth really took her time getting to know us and I enjoyed her conversations and hearing her and others' opinions. I genuinely like Ruth as a person and believe she was always available to help you outside of class as well as inside..
The class was very well organized and the objectives and requirements were always very clear. The professor was professional and communicative, and did her best to relate the material to our lives to make the course more relevant.
The professor was very helpful in the classroom. She was knowledgable and taught clearly. She also kept class engaging and encouraged speaking. She also graded fairly and clearly
learned a lot about important structural topics in the Spanish language, like verb tenses. I also became a lot more comfortable speaking in Spanish because we learned vocabulary relating to each unit, and class discussions encouraged me to speak my opinion and converse with my fellow classmates.
There was definitely a lot of encouragement to speak up and participate. It was often a pretty positive environment to learn in and we talked about interesting topics. The syllabus and grading is pretty straightforward and consistent and she was very understanding when gradin
Professor Verdolin seems passionate about teaching and it is great to see that. My speaking abilities improved because participation is mandatory in this course.
Ruth Verdolin pushed me outside of my normal comfort level with spanish and I believe my speaking skills improved a lot due to this course.
This course challenged me to practice my Spanish a lot more and encouraged me to better myself. The professor gave good instruction and gave an environment that allowed us to all be as successful as possible.
She wants everyone to participate in class and also says making mistakes is perfectly fine. That is really cool, but she also docks multiple points off every time you make a mistake. You might think you did really good, then check your grade for a C. Literally everything you do in this class has a grade.
Ruth definitely cares about her students, but that is not always reflected in their grades. You have to participate and she grades you every day. The material is not that hard, but with connect it definitely takes some time. A good grade is attainable, but you definitely have to work for it. It is important to show that you are trying.
Ruth is a gem of a woman. Her class is more of in-class participation than actually learning content, but most content can be learned from skimming through the book. Keep up with Connect and LearnSmart assignments, make sure you speak a bunch in class, and you'll be good.
My professor, Ruth Verdolin, was extremely accessible and caring. At the beginning of the course, she explained that she wanted us to expand our conversational Spanish in this rigorous course but also feel that we had a voice with class activities.
I enjoyed the online homework we did and I feel as though it helped me understand the grammar better. Ruth encorags debates we had in class were challenging but they encouraged me to speak up because I wanted to engage and also receive a good participation grade.
Mrs.. Verdolin is very open and understands what the students want and tries implementing that into the course. She readily asked for our opinion and for ideas on what we would like to do in the class and tried to incorporate our ideas into the course schedule.
The midterm exam was difficult and I should have studied more for it, but it was a good reflection of the grammar we had learned so far. I enjoyed this class and loved how receptive professor Verdolin was to our class and always was willing to make changes in the syllabus to meet our needs and expectations.
