Great Teacher! Uses the board extensively! He is very helpful, all you need to do is ask. He is also flexible, so if something comes up, your grade doesn't plumit.
Good class, difficult and the work load can be outrageous at times, homework every day. However he does assign odd problems, which is really nice. His tests aren't too hard if you study, this class is VERY time consuming, 2-3 hours of hw a night, sometimes more. But he's very willing to help with any problem you have.
His class was really easy for me. He's really fair. he gives easy tests and quizes. he gives homework almost every day but doest grade you on all of them, but if you wanna be successful in this class i highly recommend doing them all. you might be graded on 5-6 problems a week.
This teacher should be fired. Hard grader, he makes studnents do 2-3 hours of homework per night and gardes it. Quizes or tests every week. Hard to get a hold of. Does not care if your grade is going down. I would not take him.
I am not an straight A student or anything, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that all 5 post are from the same person. You must really have an axe to grind with this professor!I thought he was great..challenges his students but is always willing to help those who help themselves. Really nice dude and pretty funny..he changed my outlook on
Using graphing calculators is required in 99, but bauer won't let us use them;we have to do all the math by hand. He seems to pick on certain students for seemingly little reason. A bit arrogant but no worse than the average teacher at BC. I'd give him a 6 out 10 rating.
Teacher is rude when you ask questions. He teaches to the students who all ready know the class. The ones who are trying to learn are left out.
Very nice teacher. Attendance is not mandatory but encouraged. Do your homework and ask questions. Overall he is a good teacher and very funny.
Dr. Bauer is an outstanding instructor with a great sense of humor. Explains concepts in plain English. I liked his class so much I made sure to take him for Precalc I next quarter. Only time he told my class, "No calc," was on a quiz that tested changing exponents to logs and vice versa. Made HW mandatory when it was evident most weren't doing it.
Great instructor! Easy to learn from.
Mr. Bauer was the easiet math teacher i've ever had. quizes and tests are right out of the easiest problems of homework.
SUCH a great teacher! Writes everything on the board super clearly and fully answers questions.
Homework is not required, attendance is not required, NO FINAL EXAM, no tests. There were only 3 mid-terms, and no concept was on more than 1 mid-term exam. He made a lot of mistakes, but never on grading and they were very trivial. Very easy class. If you're looking for a class to pair with another very demanding class, then this is the one for yo
Took Dr. Bauer for Pre Calc. Pretty good teacher but be prepared to study. He doesn't grade the homework but if you don't do it, you might end up with a B+ instead of an A, like me. He was good at explaining the material and was helpful when students ask questions. He did have a few tricky questions on the tests but he does offer partial credit
he was super nice and helpful. i cannot stand math but i got an A. i would HIGHLY recommend ryan bauer if you have the chance to take a class of his
Dr. Bauer is a great teacher. He assigns homework and he doesn't grade it but you are free to ask any questions you have. He gives a quiz every Friday which is a good reason to do your homework because the questions are from the hw. He is willing to help you anytime. Most importantly he is very clear when teaching the class.I recommend him.
Dr. Bauer made this class a pleasure. Though it was a short summer quarter, I must say that his clarity and sense of humor made math almost bearable. Though attendance was not mandatory, the students that missed a lot of class did not do very well. You have to attend lecture to reap the benefits of this guy.
Easy 3 question quizzes most Fridays. Not the clearest math teacher I've ever had but he is above average. He takes questions on the hw though which is very very helpful! He can be pretty funny and is a down to earth dude. Overall I recommend him!
This dude is really good at teaching. In fact, he teaches better than his rating here. I'd love to take his class again.
Dr. Bauer is a great teacher for 152. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, no hw assignments, quiz fridays, extra credit on exams. You can get an A with a 90% which is awesome!
took him for calc 2. excellent instructor! u can slack a few days and still make it. just practice the homework on most days, put the formulas on index cards, and prepare for weekly quizzes. he preps u up for quizzes and tests which a lot of instructors here don't.
Without a doubt, one of the greatest teachers I've ever have. Explains things clearly and patiently. Although his face is kind of cranky all the time, he's really nice!
fantastic teacher! this was my third time taking this class and he was by far the best instructor I have had! he explains everything in great detail and his lectures are easy to follow. he prepares you for weekly quizzes and tests/final
He is the best teacher ever..If you didnt understand anything just go to his office! he will explain you as much as you get it! tests are easy, usually he puts some extra credits
Excellent math professor. He attempts problems from several angles and is great at explaining the approach. Quizzes every friday replace homework and three tests (in math 152) with no surprises. Liked him so much I'm taking math 153.
Ryan Bauer, PhD. This man loves math and teaches the subject clearly, quickly and concisely. Classroom is always packed with eager students due to his grading policy. Do the homework in his class, study the problems you are working. You will kill it on his tests.
This dude rocks! Love his teaching style; love his jokes. His problems are not that hard, but his grading might be challenging. You need to show every detail...
Awesome teacher. Has Lego hair.
Dr. Bauer is a great teacher. His lectures are very clear and concise. He has a good attitude and is very encouraging to his students. This class was really hard but not b/c of his teaching. He genuinely wants his students to succeed. Oh yeah, don't talk during his lectures or come late.
Amazing instructor. I took his Bus.Calc. in the Fall.I studied hard after each class and got an A. I always complained that I don't like studying the Math and he once said that I really do at the bottom of my heart. It is so true. He is great! Would recommend taking his classes!!!
My favorite Math teacher. He is monotonous (and dare I say, boring) in his teaching, yet very encouraging, open and friendly towards his students. Be it a joke, a new way to understand the material, or a need for help, he welcomes it all and does his best to help. If you don't need your hand held through the class, I'd strongly recommend him.
Ill admit math is my worst subject but he's one of those teachers that makes things more difficult than it needs to be. Its probly because hes so smart that he thinks it sounds easy. He wants you to memorize everything which in my opinion is a bad style because then students just cram, put it on an exam, and forget. His study guides are VERY helpful
I took his class in this summer quarter and he was awesome! I just took this course to fulfill my science part of my degree. Well, I didn't expect much before. But,he spent many time explaining if anyone didn't understand. Oh yeah, and his class was very easy too. :)
He seems to try but I'll warn you that if you're a working-class student who does the majority of your studying on the weekend then he's not for you. He posts study guides on Sunday night which makes things difficult if you have classes M-F in the AM and work in the PM. His "no calculator" rule during exams is pretty lame
Well some people may like this guy but I find him completely useless. No study guide for the final (REALLY!?) Over half of his "instructor notes" say to read the book. I could read the book without paying $500 for tuition. I'd say this guy is a "GPA BUSTER" so if you're pre-med avoid him. At NSCC you get a page of open notes for exams... not here
I think it was my mistake to take this as an online course. The BS thing about this course is the grading in the course. When I ask him question on campus, he goes too fast and does things completely from the textbook.I wouldn't mind to do things differently from the book if I was taking the course on campus.A complete disaster.
Average final exam score was 100 points out of 180.
Only way to describe the grading policy is "ridiculous." 88% in the course leading to the final then get a 77% on the final (which was unreasonably hard, average was 55.6%, and he refused to provide study guide for) so I get stuck with a 2.7 GPA. Just 5 more points and I would get a 3.0. I really wish there was someone I could talk to about him.
Great teacher. If you attend class and take notes you'll have no problem. He says reading the textbook is "mandatory", but I didn't have one for the entire quarter and still got an A- 'cause I was at class every day. Has a sense of humor and he doesn't take any crap from anyone. I actually like math now thanks to this class. Definitely recommend
Great Math teacher. Quiz is easy, wish he teaches Math 099. Take his class.
I enjoyed Dr Bauers math class. He goes over questions from homework nicly and is very funny. Tests are a LOT harder than expected, and there are lots of them. Study hard and you'll do great. :)
Truly excellent educator and kinda funny too. The instruction is easy to understand for anyone. Additionally if you are striving for indepth math knowledge for more advanced degrees then this is your guy. He has a Ph.d in math and teaches the correct methods for solving problems.
Math 98,winter 2012: His advice at beginning of class. Do all the problems. I suck at math. I did all the probs. I got A-.I feel I got a greatfoundation for MA 99. Comes across as a harda$$ but he actually stops when students need clarification. Would take all my math classes with this guy if poss. If you're a slacker.. you'll get a slacker grade
One of the best math teachers at BC. English is his first language. He shows you how to actually use your brain to solve problems rather than insisting you memorize all the formulas/unit circle. His final was admittedly hard, but he gives you a few breaks that help to pad your grade. His class is challenging but satisfying. Would take again.
I had him for calculus, and I learned more than I have in any other math class. His class is hard, but he teaches in a very effective manner. Follow his advice and read the textbook--it's essential.
A very good instructor. He doesn't mind stopping to go over the problem again if you're having trouble following, and works with the class based on its needs. His tests are a LOT harder than the webassign problems, so do EVERYTHING he assigns from the textbook if you want high grades. I would take again for any math class.
He is very very very good teacher, i like his way on making the topic short and very simple, i got an A in this class, he is a bit hard grader, but the tests are very easy
He is a great teacher in BC. Keep coming to the class if you want to have a good grade. Sometimes he will give extra credits for attendance and pop quiz. The online assignment is very helpful and you will get 100 mostly. Great teacher in conclusion
He's a great teacher, assigned lots of homework, but never checked it. The test were easy and he was very clear in class. He made us do homework on webassign, which had a lot of questions, but were good practice.
He is pretty good
only taking 4 days for his class, i have already in love with him. But i am not gonna to tell him, lol. highly recommand
Dr. bauer is awesome. 10/10 would take aclass from him again.
As much as I love Math, Dr. Bauer's teaching made me to love math more. He is the best teacher I have ever had in BC. he explains clearly. I was eager to take math 152 with him this quarter but his class was full. I'm hoping that I would get it to his math 153 class for next quarter.
Dr. Bauer was awesome! His teachings are so clear and he is so helpful. He makes sure the whole class gets it, and is a very fair grader. His tests are exactly what you have studied and what is in the homework- never anything crazy. Take this guy if you want to succeed!
Dr. Bauer is a great teacher! Very friendly and helpful, a pretty cool guy. For his linear algebra course, his tests are not hard if you did the homework! In fact, they are very short tests and he puts easy problems on them. Make sure you do the homework though! It is a theoretical math class and requires lots of practice.
I took him for Calculus 1 and 2 and he has been very helpful, he answers any questions the class has and does practice problems to help you understand the material. I highly recommend him if you plan on taking math.
Dr. Bauer is probably the best lecturer for mathematics I have ever had. Took him for 151 and 152. His tests are very fair and reasonable (though the are not easy by any means). He is very receptive and helpful. He always gets back to your emails very quickly. Wish I had him for all my math classes...
Ryan is good instructor. He is very clear and organized. He would help in answering questions as much as the time allows for this. The tests reflect on the material we study in class, and he explains the material very well. However his grading method is a little hard, but you can get used to it easily. I will have him for all of my math classes.
Ryan is really passionate about math. One quiz, 4 exams, and a final. Not really keen on partial credit if you at least tried on a hard prob. But he is a very fair grader. Would recommend him but be prepared to work SUPER HARD! It's college, and he expects the hardwork and attitude of a college student.
Wonderful teacher. He explains everything very clear.Enjoy his English which is perfect. He is very helpful instructor.Even though I am not a native speaker I felt myself very well in his class.I am looking forward to taking next math 151 class with him.If you want to get good math knowledge just attend his class and do your homework.
He is one of the best teachers at Bellevue College. I appreciate his help. I liked math always. Now I adore math.
Ryan is great. He is simple, clear and easy. He will make you love math. I got A in 151 and A- in 153. just take notes of every thing he writes in the bored so u dont need to use the book. i never studied at home. i read the chap in the bus before getting to the class to understand all he says. great teacher.
Dr Bauer is a great teacher, in every essence of the word. He can be very candid and sarcastic at times, but he's awesome at breaking things down to a point that is understandable. He can tell if the class is confused and will not move on until he figures a way to explain the material. He is the best Mathematics teacher I've ever had! Take him!
I took Dr. Bauer for back-to-back quarters: Math 142 and 151. His style is very clear and he can explain complicated concepts so everyone can understand. If he was teaching 152 this Fall, I'd gladly choose to be in his class again.
He is the best teacher at Bellevue College. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND him to everyone. You will adore math after his class.
I can not say enough about this professor!! He is the best one in bellevue college, totally helpful straight to the point! The list goes on and on he is very well educated strict but nice at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The class is fairly easy. He's a bit harsh grader on little things, but it makes you strive for perfection. I received an A in the class by doing all homework assignments in preparation for the exams. He also allows notecards on exams sometimes. Final was very similar to past exams. Be aware that he was absent a lot! Missed about 7 class days.
HE DID NOT MISS CLASS ON PURPOSE! WE ALL HAVE EMERGENCIES IN OUR LIVES. BUT HIS CLAS WAS AMAZING! BY FAR THE MOST EDUCATED MAN IN BELLEVUE COLLEGE!!
Great teacher. Gets sick a lot during fall/winter. We missed about a week of instruction. Not happy about that. His tests are somewhat hard. The class is enjoyable!
I love Bauer! I usually hate math but his excitement for it made it fun! He is somewhat of a harsh grader but super laid back and easy to approach. He never gets upset unless ur glued to ur phone everyday or constantly come in late. Also, He told our class he wanted his 'hotness' rate to go up on ratemyprofessor lol so u got it dr. Bauer !
Wonderful teacher, always willing to help. Gives great advice, and will try his best to assist you in anything. Always has a great attitude towards teaching. The work load is quite a bit, but reasonable. Definitely a great teacher!
He is a great teacher and I highly recommend him. He helps a lot and he wants students to succeed. He actually knows what he is teaching.
He is by far the greatest math teacher I have ever had. He really takes the time to apply the problems to real life situations that help you understand the concepts rather than just following along. I highly recommend taking classes from him if given the opportunity!
Ryan is the best math teacher ever!!!!!! He will really explain you hard concept in such an easy way that you will definitely understand them. If you study, you will get an A.
Dr. Bauer is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. His ability to make the very complex seem simple is a gift. Gives a fair about of homework and starts every class with a homework review. For almost every test he also gives a group assignment that can add points to your test. Attend his class daily or you will be lost.
Ryan is awesome!!!!!! You will love math after his class. Just come to class everyday, right down everything that shows on the board and review your notes daily. He provides with a chance to get a good grade. Do not be afraid of math if you are taking it with Ryan Bauer.
boring class. Once he used 15mins to solve this question, but ended up getting a wrong answer and never talked about that question ever again.( this happened more than once)
He is a fun, passionate professor who has a very open non-elitist mindset when it comes to math. While unfortunately this is not something that can be said for most in his field, his goal is not to impart upon his students how clever he is, but to get them to have the same love and appreciation for the subject that he does.
Ryan is the best math teacher in the world! I know math well, but my partner did not. We both ended getting an A+. Come to the lecture, take notes, and do your homework. If you do that, you're guaranteed to get a solid A. He won't fool you on the exam. You will only be asked what you've studied. Ask questions if you have any. No quizzes
Awesome Teacher! Super Smart and Funny! I am terrible at math and he made it easy to understand. Super helpful!
good teacher.
I'd describe him to be the guy who loves studying in general. Based on my experience, he could relate the hard problem to a simple thing. He might not be able to solve all the problems in the book ON THE SPOT, but when he does, that's what people need to realize that it is also part of learning. He's chill, tests are mostly from lectures, and awsm!
Dr. Bauer is definitely the best math teacher I've ever had. He offers a very interesting, "organic" perspective to math, and he works humor into his lectures (something that most math teachers fail at). Before taking his class, I was decent at math, but never really interested. Now, I've grown much stronger, and I actually enjoy it.
Dr Bauer is my favorite math teacher ever! I had taken 142 before online and failed. In his class, everything was so crystal clear and I walked out with an A. He's super smart and has a great way of teaching material. If you can do the homework (WITHOUT USING HINTS) you can ace the tests. Also a bonus is that he's really nice, and funny.
HE IS AMAAAAZINGG!
Dr. Baur is an amazing instructor. Linear algebra is not an easy subject, but he tries to make it as easy as possible. there are weekly quizzes which are based on the assigned homework and three tests. he is very inspirational and he'll be there for you if you need any help. I'll definitely take him again
Ryan I one of the best Math professors at BC. He missed class a few times but other than that he was great. Not an easy A but if you study hard for it you get that A. Online homework wasn't useful for me but since there are no quizzes they make up for it. Great lecturer and very fair. Definitely take him!!!
Nice teacher.
If English is your second language, don't bother taking this teacher or this class. Trust me i tried my best, studied day and night but the best i could get was a B. Also, he is very helpful but YOU must ask for it otherwise you shall suffer. May the odds be on your side...
Despite the difficult subject matter, concepts were explained with incredible clarity. If someone didn't understand how he got to an answer, the teacher would go back and explain the steps again. Many examples are given in lecture and the teacher goes over problems in the book and organically figures them out, showing the students how to view it.
The online hw was harder than his exams. He usually tells what kind of problems to expect on his exams. Listen carefully to his lectures and make sure you understand his methods of solving problems. Then you'll most likely solve all his exam problems. This being said, you can't easily get an A if you don't put your work in it. He's awesome.
Amazing math teacher! I skipped MATH141 and came into this class straight from high school Algebra 2. He knows his material very well and makes it interesting to learn. Also he teaches students a few tricks to memorize things better. He assigns hw but it's not required. The only hw required is on mymathlab and it's due the night before the tests.
Ryan B is an amazing teacher he gives online HW do them and you will be just fine for the quizzes and exams, go to class everyday, let him know you, he allow a cheat sheet in quizzes and the final. ask questions if you can. I would defiantly recommend to take his class
Ryan gives very good lectures in class and will go over the material until you understand them. He gave a lot of extra credit to us. Be sure to do your homework because it is essential to getting a good grade.
Had multiple classes with Ryan. Tremendously enjoyable. He clearly loves his job--what more do you need to know? 10/10 He's not merely a top-rate mathematician (which he is) but an excellent teacher as well, which is critical in a subject like math. If you struggle with math, raise your hand often. His explanations are always deeply insightful.
Just goes through what is on the homework and doesn't explain very clearly. Isn't very helpful either. Boring monotonous lectures and the class goes by very slowly. I wouldn't take this professor again.
On top of being hilarious and interesting, he is an amazing teacher. He is always available to help with problems or questions. He is a fair grader. Expectations are clear. If you follow the course work, put in the effort, and proactively learn then you are sure to pass. I'd highly recommend him.
Ryan has online homework, and book homework, but the online homework is the homework that is due. The book homework is optional, but if you don't do it, you won't pass his tests. Tests are based on the book homework as well. However, he is helpful & makes class fun. His notes aren't clear, and a lot of the material you have to relearn on your own.
I liked his style of giving lectures and presenting solutions. So much so that I hated it when we had a sub.
Professor Bauer's explanations are clear and logical, he gives partial credit and grades fairly, his lectures are interesting, and he is willing to help. He prefers logical methods over memorization. Drops your lowest score, and is willing to fix any grading mistakes.
This is by far the best teach at bellevue college and that I have ever had. He is inspirational and makes you want to learn. If you struggle in math, this is the teacher to change everything you've ever believed negatively about mathmatics. I would take every math class I could with this teacher if I could but he doesn't teach some math courses.
Best teacher I've ever had! He's funny, very clear in his lectures, always willing to help, and overall a great guy. I don't even like math much but he made this my favorite class. Definitely would want him for a teacher again.
Best math teacher ever, I will take him as a teacher when ever i get a chance he is also funny and has extra credit
Ryan is an awesome guy! very hard class, but if you put in the work you can get an A.
Dr. Bear was a great teacher. He knows how to teach and is well respected. He teaches with an iron fist; do not get on his bad side. He has a sense of humor and can relate the topics in class to real life situations. His look, although startling, is great. A lumberjack-look allows for maximum cuteness. His beard is raggedy but hot. Take the class!
Overall, outstanding teacher. I have had him multiple times starting from 142, thru several calc classes. His lectures are very concise and every class he teaches he really makes interesting to the point where people looked forward to coming to class daily. His exams are fair, covering the material presented. Pay attention to detail on his tests!
I will definitely take any of his classes again! he is an amazing Professor, quick tips.. show up on time, he gives extra credit randomly so show up to class every day and do your homework if you want to pass.
Dr. Bauer is a wonderful professor! He explains all the calculus concepts very clearly and asks students if they need clarification. Exams and quizzes are hard if you don't do the homework regularly. If you do the homework and practice problems more, you will get a decent grade.
One of the best teacher I have ever had. He makes class a lot of fun, but it doesn't mean its easy. You truly have to work for your grade. Nothing in this class is handed to you. Everything that he does is very clear. He will make sure you get it, he has a ton of office hours for questions. He also loves tacos, so there that.
Amazingly patient professor who is willing to help if you are willing to ask. Homework was assigned very regularly that didn't affect our grade (He assigned Labs online and that homework was part of our overall grade). Doing the homework he assigned is crucial to succeeding in his class. It equips you with questions you can ask the following day.
Dr. Bauer is a one of a kind, seriously. He is straight-forward about what to expect; yet he does it with tacked, respect, and care. This combination is extremely difficult! In addition, his teaching style & techniques encourages & helps! Also, Dr. Bauer teaches about math, but also lessons which helps you as a student & life! Sick beard too! lol
Ryan is such a great teacher! Attendance isn't mandatory but it is if you want to get a good grade. He is a tough grader on his tests but he is always happy to go over your mistakes during his office hours. His lectures are very informational and not boring, he makes lots of jokes. Do the optional HW because his tests reflect those HW questions.
Dr. Bauer is the best! He's super kind and will inspire you to work hard. He values time and effort (his, and his students'), and when he says something, he means it. This math class was my favorite of the quarter. Really great learning environment, zero stress (except for the MyMathLab assignments -- start those ASAP because they're killers).
Man is my worst subject. But after taking Ryan's class, I feel more confident than ever. Personally, I've become too reliant on calculators that I even forgot how to do basic operations. The first two tests that Ryan gives requires you to use no calculators. He really wants you to comprehend the problem and what to do. And why you're doing.
Ryan is an amazing professor! I had been out of school for 11 years and my fear of math was the biggest reason it took me so long to go back. I know 075 isn't overly difficult, but it can be for math avoiders. Ryan made it easy to understand and NEVER made me feel stupid. He isn't intimidating at all. Now I actually like math! Big shocker!
Ryan is a very caring man. He makes learning fun and is always making our class laugh. Hard class, 4 tests and one final. Online homework due the day before the test. The good thing is you get to drop one test and with each test there is a take-home portion but it is not easy. Overall I really enjoyed the class.
Clear lectures encourage repeated mechanical practice in the long-form algebraic manipulations that the subj requires. Stress is placed on precise notation. Read the sections and attempt problems BEFORE lectures. Tests are not tricky but require "fore-understanding" to be accessible in the time allotted. Drill for speed. Calm and wise demeanor.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER for MATH! Dr. Bauer is very knowledgeable and funny :) Be sure to use the textbook to do many practice problems because it will definitely help you ace the tests. Before taking this class, I've always 'memorized' the formulas but now I actually understand where they came from!
A tough teacher, definitely makes you work for your grade. HW done on WebAssign and due prior to each test. Tests are hard, and he doesn't give very good feedback on tests, so you'll have to make time to go to office hours. Tests are half in-class, half take-home. Clear and lighthearted lectures. Would recommend doing the optional hw.
Ryan is absolutely hilarious. Throws jokes all the time. His lectures are on point. Love his explanations. Daily HW. Attendance not required. 4 exams, 6 quizzes.. He drops the lowest quiz score and the lowest exam score. Doesn't give great feedback on exams. SICK OR ABSENT A LOT. Defiantly, makes you work for grade.
Ryan is the funniest professor at BC. He sure gives a lot of HW up to 50 problems or so, but they are not due, just for extra practice. He gives awesome lectures that make you motivate more. The more you pay attention in class and take notes, the better you will do in class. Highly recommend him for math!
Very effective lectures with proofs, examples, and occasional stories without going into tangents. WebAssign hours of "plug and chug" questions. Start early. Tests - similar but w/o enough time. Did curve to fix. Too few problems that required thought. I barely used textbook, should've. To gain stuff from this class, YOU must challenge yourself.
Midterms and Finals looked nothing like the review, homework or quizzes. Does not allow notes during midterms or finals.
3 in class midterms, 1 take-home midterm, final was in class. hw 25%, midterms 50%, final 25% of grade. Dr Bauer was pretty funny and shared life stories with us. He doesn't take attendance. He derives concepts, not just tell us the formula; this may not suit your learning style. Tests questions not as hard as hardest questions in class/hw.
Overall he's a really great professor, doesn't care about attendance, drops your lowest exam score(total 4 exams), gives at least one take-home quiz and exam, and gives a general idea of what the quiz and exams are going to be like. If you don't screw up for the first three exams and a couple of quizzes, you'll be guaranteed a solid A.
He was easy. A little too easy. Very little graded homework, so most of our grade was made of quizzes and tests. He drops the lowest quiz AND the lowest test. He is clear in his explanation of concepts--I had very little problem understanding him. He's a chill dude.
Unless you are good at math, avoid this professor. He was definitely funny, but it would not help you. He didn't explain clearly and tests were difficult. Most of the average test scores were C+.
While he is a nice and funny guy, I can't help but feel like he is very lazy. He won't do examples to end because he gets bored by them, takes weeks to post exam solutions, and then throws very hard questions on exams. You can do well in this class if you do all the homework, but I feel like the professor doesn't put any effort in. Also grades hard
I took online 142 with Professor Ryan during the summer. There were two exams total. His study guides were really helpful for preparing the exams. Some problems could be the same as the ones on the study guide. His lecture was clear and straightforward. Great pro overall!
Prof Bauer, is a solid professor that knows his craft. He is a very challenging grader but if you do what your told you should be able to pass his class. Homework load is a bit but does prepare you for the test. He doesn't grade hw, or care about attendance. He is fast pace but tell him to slow down during lectures and he will.
Ryan is a great Math professor. He loves math! And he's pretty funny. Do the homework because that's where he gets all the quiz and test questions, right out of the book. The 098 book you fly through so it helps to do it everyday. Quizzes are set up weird kind of back tracked, but you need to know the material anyways. Straight to the point profess
I took his Calculus I in spring. His lecture is very solid and he always gives the definition for the formula or concept in a very clear way. There are 4 exams (he will drop the lowest one) and one final. he might throw a curveball for the grade. Do his assignment then you will be able to get an A.
Ryan is a very nice man. He makes learning interesting. Hard class, there are tons of formulas need to memorize, 4 tests(drop the lowest one)and one final. there is a take-home portion for each test. Willing to help you when you have a problem. He will also check if the student understood what he taught. openminded to students' ideas.
Dr. Bauer is super chill. HW wasn't mandatory but STRONGLY encouraged ( I always did better on exams when I did it). 4 exams, 8-10 quizzes, and a final. He drops one quiz AND one exam so that was awesome. I got a C but that was on me lol. He won't hold your hand, so go back to high school if you need that! Great prof
Ryan Bauer's personality is great and he can make learning fun at times during his lectures. Whenever he goes over a subject, he is always open to any questions that students may have and encourages them to do so. The one thing I found hard about his class is that he grades off quizzes and exams only. Remember to practice homework problems.
just don't take him. Just trust me and don't take him. He's a straight no. He makes this class much more harder than it is, if you want to challenge yourself and would like to fail, take him. Even if you get correct answers, if you are'nt his favorite, you are less likely to get A. I did learn in depth about linear algebra tho but he's a true bi*ch
Please do not take him unless you are good at math. His tests are tough and there is not enough time to do them in the period given. The quizzes can be hard at times. Also, he only grades off tests and quizzes. He does not care about the effort you put into his class and is not understanding at all. Nice guy, not the best professor.
Yes, he makes jokes but I did not understand any of his lectures. Exams are tough and the take-home portion is tougher. However, he drops one exam from 4 exams. Every exam and final are worth 25%, so you need to do great! he said no extra credit, but there are some once in a while but not much. ONLY TAKE HIM IF YOU ARE PROFICIENT IN MATH!!
Professor Ryan may not have the best lecture, but he did work on it. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is a solid teacher, you must work hard for your grade. Understanding the theorem in the textbook is a must, doing the homework will help you understand the materials. Overall, a great teacher.
He only grades quizzes and exams. He does not grade homework so you never end up doing it. He also gets very mad when the whole class fails exams. He does not curve anything bu the first exam. He is horrible at explaining anything and loves to put things on the quizzes and exams you haven't learned.
Linear Algebra is not an easy course, professor Ryan does his best to help you understand the material. He really cares about his students, and he is willing to do as much as he can to help you succeed. Professor Ryan makes sure his students understand the material, and that what makes me like him. Thank you!
All of our grades credit was taken from tests and quizzes - no way to make up for anything Teacher was fast with his lecture and rarely had the class come up to solve problems talked way too much about huckleberry and beer- nice guy but not organized Wish there was worksheets given out and graded the hw assigned was wayy too much and not worth it
This class mainly consists of lectures from the textbook and homework problems outside of class. His lectures are really helpful and he explains things pretty well. This class is concept based so make sure you read the textbook and show up to the lectures. I think he's pretty caring and funny. He makes sure students know what they're learning.
Awful. Awful. Awful. Hes the worst professor at BC. Only take the class if you are actually good at math. He doesnt grade anything besides tests & quizzes. Plus hes really rude and seems kind of racist ngl.
STAY IN UNTIL THE END OF CLASS! Dr. Bauer begins the year seeming very strict and harsh but towards the end will give out copious extra credit. The class is very difficult though and you need to pay attention.
he is not good with online classes. super scattered. i do not recommend unless it is an in person class.
He doesn't teach students when it comes to online classes. He instead talks about other things such as how to turn in a test. Dodges math questions. Tests are confusing because you don't know what day and time they will be on. He doesn't post the test until the day of. My grade suffered because of missed tests and bad teaching. Don't take his class
Mr. Bauer is one of the most interesting math teachers I've ever had. He teaches well with his online lectures and has useful office hours (which are unfortunately not used a lot). Had a couple of quizzes and tests, plus a "final" project. He doesn't teach out of the textbook, but does offer recommended questions from there. Definitely do them!
Lectures were clear and helpful, but i really wish he'd just upload them to youtube since the whiteboard software he used bugged out a lot. He gives retake opportunities for quizzes, and occasionally tests. Good class.
He clearly knows the subject well, but he's not very good at teaching. He often struggles with technology and makes us read the textbook to understand. Sometimes he doesn't show up at his office hours. He doesn't give extensions but he gives you 5 attempts on homework, 2 attempts on quizzes, and 1 for the test. he also drops worst hw and quiz score
Ryan is very disorganized with online learning. His lectures drag on for a very long time, and his office hours are often not as productive. I found myself self studying from the textbook the majority of the time. He definitely gets along with students, but teaching this class for the first time, I didn't think it was a good experience.
Seems like a great guy but his online class was very unorganized. His lectures were long and not the best. I used youtube videos instead. Homework was fair and the tests were a bit much for the given time. Quizzes were based on homework. The final project was interesting. Emphasis on no organization. Although I Heard he is great in person.
I chose his lecture after I check the comments here but I was disappointed. (It was during the Covid so an in-person class might be different) His online class was very unorganized. I sent an e-mail to him several times but I never got a reply. He changed the office hour many times. But if you are good at math, it is easy to get a good grade.
The reason why I really dislike this teacher is because when I didnt have reliable access to the internet for a week, he was incredibly unhelpful. He refused to make any special circumstances for me, his syllabus says no extensions period!. He was so disorganized and hard to reach the whole quarter, he finally got a sub the last few weeks.
Absolutely DO NOT take an online class with this prof. Super messy and disorganized class. His lectures were way too drawn out with him complaining about technology, and the lectures weren't that helpful in general. Our class didn't receive any grades in the gradebook until the quarter was almost over, which was incredibly anxiety-inducing.
it was all online. 1 WebAssign HW a week but it had plenty of questions. I think there were 6 quizzes and 3 exams. I didn't watch his lectures or read his notes. I just looked at examples. No late work accepted, don't be lazy. The exam and quiz questions were exactly what was on the HW just different numbers. Summer QR was more condensed obvi
Polarizing professor with an ego, Bauer spent the first week of class lecturing about his life instead of math. Although I withdrew, he hadn't removed me from his email list. I've never seen a prof. send emails bragging about how they "managed to weed out those who lacked the backbone". Don't take his class if you ask questions or need help.
After a few weeks we were assigned a lot of homework to do outside of class with weekly quizzes and exams (they were not easy). Ryan lectures a lot on the history of math and the derivatives of certain equations (do not need to know on the quizzes/exams) which made it confusing on what notes to take during lectures. Do not take class
Ryan usually changes his mind for the better (we got online quizzes, and 2 online tests.. depends on his mood I think). Not sure about his response time. Lectures seemed to go on a tangent often, but I still learned what I needed regardless. Drops worst quiz/test/activity. 3 tests a quarter then a final. Attendance was semi-mandatory.
I took this class in person thinking he would teach the material but he ended up just going over problems/questions. Cancelled class frequently and honestly seemed a bit lazy to me. His online lectures are long and hard to follow through. I found it easier just reading the textbook. Do practice problems in the text along w required hw, it will help
He is disorganized. The material is not too bad if you study. The exam weight is heavy. 20% per each. The exams are easier than assignments. Recommend working with your classmates on assignments since he allows it too. There are 2 parts of the exam take-home (40%) and in-class (60%). The final is based on 3 exams. I think he could have done better.
Dr. Bauer is a good professor in my opinion, i found his class rather difficult but his way of teaching worked for me. His lectures also helped me alot.
he is a nice person, i will give you that, but takes no responsibilities. class is unorganized, you don't know what you're gonna be learning, lecture videos are barely understandable and 2x longer than it needs to be. good luck self teaching
Ryan is the best Math teacher I have ever had before, really sad about what happened. Ryan, Rest In Peace.
Ryan was a good person and a funny teacher. I have never studied trig before, but I have learned a lot with Ryan. I am so sad. I liked the way he used to greet us with " Happy Monday". Rest In Peace! The best teacher I have ever had.
Professor Bauer was an inspiration to us in a lot of ways. Thank you for being so dedicated to your students and work. You will be missed in our community! RIP
Dr Bauer helped me learn to love linear algebra.
