Mildly annoying; when you ask a question in class, he counters it with another question, to make you think harder... and ends up confusing you terribly. Very difficult to follow at times. Often confuses himself, then begins talking in circles, and further confuses himself. However, he means well. He is kind, and sometimes helpful in person.
MAT 120. Good guy, just a really boring class. I ended up not showing up for the whole second half of it, and although I missed a test, I still got a C. There are four tests and a Final. On top of that thee is a little group work in class. The major bonus here: No homework, None. If the class doesn't annoy you, it'a a guaranteed A.
Mr.Bunge is just super like corny and like awkwardly funny. He teaches us like we're 5 years old which is super annoying, some people might like it though. He's not a bad teacher at all though, when you have questions with homework he will email you back to help late nights but in class he just elaborates too much and just like... idk, corny.
Mr. Bunge is nice, and he explains things really well, for me at least. The homework is given on a list at the beginning of the year but if you understand the concepts you don't need to do it. Also, he takes attendance everyday so go to class because if you are just a few % pts away from the next grade, he boosts you up if you go to class.Recommend
Although hes a nice guy, his teaching abilities are TERRIBLE! I used to love math until I got to this class. He doesn't explain things well at all and when you ask him a question in class he responds with another question. His favorite response is "I don't know, what do you think?" This did nothing to help me! I wouldn't recommend him to anyone.
Had him for Math 120. He was the worst teacher I ever had. He was not clear on anything he taught and lectured all hour, dragging out each practice problem. I would avoid this man!
He is the worst teacher I've ever had. Does not know how to teach. He drags on the lecture the whole class time, with maybe 2 example problems. The only way I got through it was by teaching myself. Horrible.
Ryan Bunge is the worst math professor that I have ever had. The methods he teaches in class seem easy enough, but when you get to the homework you basically need to read the section yourself, and his tests and quizzes can sometimes be impossible depending on the chapter. He is often sarcastic and rude and doesn't offer help when asked.
He is one of the worst math teacher I have had. He just goes over a PowerPoint every single class. Not much elaboration on problems. Moves quickly. You basically have to teach yourself from the book to understand the chapters. Tests and quizzes are short answer & multiple choice. They're pretty difficult. He's kind of rude too.
You're going to need to teach yourself this course. Ryan Bunge is by far the worst math teacher I have ever had. He will not tell you about exams or quizzes until maybe the day before. He is really rude to his class and shows almost no examples of how to do problems. Tests and quizzes are very difficult no matter how you study. Good luck.
He's a nice guy but he hardly has any idea what is going on. The chapter he does on statistics is all wrong. Multiple times I've had to do things the wrong way in order to get a good grade on a test.It isn't hard material, he just doesn't know how to teach it.
Worst math teacher ever all he does is go off the power points and doesn't show any examples that are on the test or quiz. Be prepared to teach yourself most of the chapters.
I really don't understand how the lowest math class you can take for credit at this university is the hardest math class I've ever taken. It's funny because I literally did this class in high school and was taught way better than Ryan Bunge has taught me anything. I really wish I would have avoided this man at all costs.
This class is basically the whole reason I was stressed out my first semester of school. Ryan Bunge treats us like children but gives us tests as if we are professional mathematicians. His classes are pointless because he doesn't know how to do the work and he is sarcastic and kind of mean. Even if you study so hard, it will get you nowhere.
HORRIBE PROFESSOR. if he even is a professor. i hope he looks on this site and realizes how badly he is messing up other students grades. he is sloppy with his work and is very rude. he offers no help and needs to go get a teaching degree. sincerly, the studnet who failed your class because you cant teach ;)
He is the worst teacher I have ever had. Math 113 is supposed to be easy and he makes it impossible. He's rude, condescending, arrogant, and not helpful at all. His tests and quizzes are impossible, I sincerely hate him. Every other MAT 113 class is easy and his is terrible. Now I have to retake this class, thanks for nothing!
God awful. Save yourself now
He is awful! Class is pointless when you have to teach yourself everything from the book & you still won't understand it. Teaches us like we're idiots but gives extremely difficult tests and quizzes. Got C's, D's, & F's on all of them and I'm an A/B student in math. Very rude too. AVOID HIM!!
Avoid this class at all costs. Mr. Bunge is the worst teacher I have ever had, and a lot of people in this class have to re-take it because of his terrible teaching skills. This class is the hardest class I have ever taken, and takes away all the study time from my other classes by the amount of work and studying I have to do in his. Terrible.
I honestly hate this teacher. Maybe it's because he has a new baby at home, but his attitude is terrible, his test are impossible, and homework takes days to do sometimes. Have fun teaching yourself this class and barely passing. Ryan Bunge is the worst teacher I have ever had in my life.
buy the book because you will need it to teach yourself this class. He will cheat you out of a grade you deserve and most of us have been struggling to get just a C in the class. I don't get how the 'easiest' math class at this school is harder than anything I've ever had before?
AVOID THIS CLASS
Overall not a TERRIBLE teacher, but i did wish i would have chosen another teacher. Tests are challenging, but manageable. Homework online is not so difficult. He does take attendence and the Lab days are pointless. He does give extra credit, so make sure to do it. Had a friend who took another teacher with easier tests & did much better than me.
Overall I think he was always perfectly clear in explaining everything which made for a very easy class. The online homework gave you the answers which made it super easy to do. I actually enjoyed some of his stupid humor, which made the class more bearable. Do the extra credit!!!
Really hard class. The final was not too bad, but the rest of the class was pretty hard and the tests are impossible.
Ryan Bunge literally failed me. I did all the work and spent countless hours doing the learning curves and still got less than a 50%. I cried myself to sleep every night I was in this class. I'm always really successful in math classes but this one is impossible. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Horrible professor. Very rude, looks at you stupid if you ask a question. You have to teach yourself everything. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
I am and AB student, I took a similar class over the summer for non-credit (literally the same criteria as this class) and received an A. His teaching does nothing, you literally do nothing in the labs either. I suggest getting a tutor, and prepare to make this class one of your top priorities.
Professor Bunge is a nice guy, but I was not a fan of his class at all. He's pretty helpful if you go to his office hours, but in class not so much. Not a fan of his grading at all. I do pretty well on all of my assignments in his class, and I have a low C. Teaches way too fast for me. You get a good amount of time to do the homework though!
I'm a straight A student and even though I put in everything I could into this class, I still had a very hard time. He is a very rude individual. He looks at you like you're stupid when you ask a question. His test are extremely hard. If you miss three questions on a test you're already down to a B. Take this course with a different teacher!!
Prof Bunge covers a lot of material in his class so he won't take the time to explain everything. Basically, this is not High School math any more.
I had Bunge my first semster for math 119, he hasn't been teaching as long as other professors and I hated him. He explained the concepts in a more difficult matter, I'm in Anne Smitz class now repeating the class and understand everything in such an easier way. Be ready to do ALOT of online homework that will drive you nuts.
He's just awful doesn't teach you anything at all.
Ryan is nice, but he makes learning the easiest kind of math very difficult. It's hard to keep up in class because he goes very fast and never really makes it clear what you need to know. The tests are very difficult and don't match up with the homework. If you take this class without any previous understanding of the content, you won't do well.
Ryan's a nice guy but not very helpful. You do a lot of the teaching yourself. Luckily I had a decent GA to help out but make sure to go to the labs for the practice, you'll need it. He makes it a hard class, but it's doable if you're decent at math. If not... good luck.
Ryan is very awkward. Get ready to hear "check my arithmetic" every 10 seconds. He covers a lot of material in a short amount of time. The online homework is pretty easy, you get 4 attempts/problem. Make sure to come to class to get those easy points. Choose your group wisely, the projects are dumb (you better know how to use Excel).
Ryan is a funny guy (his awkwardness and his fedora..) but he can be condescending if you have a question. However, the class is super easy, and you get 50 points just for going to class, so go.
He did not do a great job of making sure all of his students understood the material. Instead of reviewing lesson the day of quizzes he tries to teach new material before assigning the quiz.
This class was very hard. He is a nice person, but his teaching could be better. 4 Quizzes (100 pts); 4 Exams (100 pts); 7 Group Works (70 pts); Attendance Points (50 points); HW on LaunchPad (100 pts); 2 Projects (80 points); and a 200 pt Final Exam. Make sure you do the EC Quizzes on LaunchPad. Hopefully you have a good GA. GET HELP.
He doesn't explain anything. He will not explain the concepts and then do one example problem and expect you to understand it. He moves way too fast and also teaches to the very last second and tries to squeeze in a new concept the last minute of class.
Don't take him
Doesn't teach what is going to be on the test. Talks really fast in lecture and doesn't clarify anything.
You have to go to lecture for attendance credit, yet his lectures make no sense. All lab teachers a foreign and hard to understand. He makes easy quizzes, so you think you know what you're doing and then you get to the test and it's something completely different. Worst professor I've had so far.
Ryan has probably been doing this "basic" math for quite some time now and it shows because he can not explain it to students in a way we'd understand. He is condescending when you ask a question and lacks passion for his job.
All other teachers gives out study guides, and allows cheat cheats, Bunge does not. Bunge automatically expects you to know what is going on inside his head at all times and thinks you understand what is going on. Not. Skip class its a waste of time, but just read read read the textbook and you'll do ok. Try memorizing all the formals. Good Luck.
"Skipping steps to save time."-Ryan Bunge. My favorite quote from this professor. Not only does he skip steps while teaching, he skips sections that will be on a test. His homework and quizzes are 10x easier than the tests.I'd say he was helpful with answering questions, but I would be lying. I asked a question and got a rude, non helpful answer.
There's not enough characters to describe how much I dislike this professor. Ryan Bunge is easily the worst instructor I've had at this university. He is rude, condescending, unclear, and takes weeks to grade assignments. The class average was below a C and he did nothing to change his teaching. Do yourself a favor and find a different math prof.
HES HORRIBLE! DONT TAKE HIM!
Just awful, I understand math professors are usually graded the harshest, but this class was just terrible.
Ryan is very rude, and condescending. If you have a background in the material he covers, then you will do fine in class. If you do not have any background, then you might have a difficult time and you might be scared to ask questions because of the snooty way that he answers. It's really not that hard though, you can just get through it.
STAY AWAY! Bunge doesn't teach. Regurgitates PP slides to you which you can do on your own. Doesn't go through any steps to solve problems. Does 1 example & expects you to magically understand everything. HW online. Lab days are useless-given worksheets to work on alone-no demonstrations. Dropped ASAP. You won't pass w/o struggling-get anyone else.
He was okay. He teaches things well in my experience. He wants to make sure everyone knows whats going on but most people never say anything. I read the book a lot. Gives out hw, but not for a grade. Weekly quizzes to keep you on your toes, and grade will be dependent on five exams plus final.
Bunge was a terrible professor. He made terrible jokes as well as barely taught! He would barely explain PowerPoint slides and would not answer questions from the online homework. Not a professor I want again.
Bunge is the type of teacher to seem like he cares but does not. He is all powerpoints and no explanation. If you have a question, youll ask it, he will try to answer it but in the end he will only confuse you more. His TA is a nice guy but hard to understand. GET A TUTOR HE WILL NOT HELP YOU.
Bunge is by far the worst instrutor I have ever had in my time as a student. He rambles on about stuff no one actually cares about, he reads from the slides instead of actually teaching, when he "further explains" he just makes things more confusing, and half the stuff on the homework wasn't even taught in class. Avoid him at all costs!
There was a LOT of homework for this class but it only counts for a small percentage of your grade. We had to do two group projects that we got little direction on, and was graded really hard. the subject material itself was not that hard, but the way that Bunge taught it made it harder to understand than if you just used the book instead.
Whatever you do, DO NOT take Ryan Bunge, he is terrible. You have a test like every 2 weeks, his examples don't respond with the homework or the tests. His test are 6 pages long, 4 pages no calculator and 2 with calculator. He tries to be funny but he's not. You have homework, but not counted for a grade. TERRIBLE! Stay away from!
I have to say after taking this class, this was a lot harder compared to a different math class I had taken and received a better grade. Wow!
He is the worst teacher I have ever had!! He makes the course material more complicated than it needs to be. He does this thing where he tries to talk really fast but fails miserably and ends up confusing everyone. You have quizzes every Friday, but only gives you 5 minutes to do it. If you can avoid him please do.
Check my arithmetic, but Professor Bunge was sueper boring and made class about as interesting as watching grass grow on an artificial field. Even his T.A. fell asleep in class and he didnt bother to wake him up. If you have ADD or any type of inattentive trait, drop this class immediately because youll zone out in the first 15 minutes and fail.
He drops your worst 3 quizzes of the semester and drops your worst test with your homework grade if its above your worst test grade. Every Friday is quiz day, things that you learn in class aren't on the quizzes and the things on the quizzes aren't on the tests. The quizzes and tests are 10x harder than the things you learn in class.
GO TO CLASS! He isn't the best lecturer but will answer your homework questions and every day you attend you get a little bit of extra credit. Online homework is pretty easy because you get 4 or 5 tries to get the right answer. Group projects seem irrelevant but are pretty easy using Excel. Use the review tool on the homework to study for tests.
Ryan is AMAZING. I have 0 problem with him and I love his teaching style. Hes nerdy and relatable to me. He can talk fast but ask questions. He will happily stop to answer questions. This class is EASY if you can think LOGICALLY and apply what you learn. If you are confused JUST ASK HIM. He is a great teacher and very passionate about math.
Ryan Bunge is the worst professor on this planet. EVER. He does not know how to teach at all. I would not take him again or advise anyone else to take him because of how bad of a teacher he is. He gives group projects and does not know how to explain anything to anyone. His response is "look at the syllabus" and it not even on there. Do not take.
Does not know how to explain material. Makes things 10x harder than they should be.
Ryan is a pretty unremarkable but alright teacher. He gives out things to study and you study them. He makes helpful videos to explain topics more clearly. Your score in this class largely depends on how much time and effort are able to put in to the difficult problems and if you have math whiz peers to help you understand.
This was an asynchronous online class. This should have been a synchronous lecture class. Prof Bunge had great material and example problems he shared with us online for us to look over but I felt like I was doing a lot of my learning during the quizzes and tests, which were luckily untimed.
This year is a little difficult with classes being online but that is no reason to not have lectures in a lecture class. We have the opportunity to request office hours but personally I have difficulty in one-on-one scenarios. Homework is okay with multiple tries but we are expected to learn the content straight out of a book which is no good.
Bunge was the worst possible professor someone could've gotten during COVID season. He didn't lecture, all you got were notes on Reggie. If you didn't understand those, you were pretty much forced to figure it out on your own. He was notorious for going weeks without saying a word to the class and never got back to your desperate emails for help.
The one positive part of this class is that Bunge is accessible via Zoom call, when he responds to your email. With this, he does not do any teaching really. There are a few of his own videos but he relies heavily on YouTube and PDFs for the lessons. Even when he makes his own videos, it only covers one problem. Get used to repeatedly watching them
Straight up doesnt teach. For the second unit, he has formatted these questions in a way that no one else on the internet does. If you dont understand his explanations, then youll never understand. His lecture videos assume you already know how to do half of the stuff. If I could rate him a zero I would.
Some people were not meant to teach and I strongly believe this for Professor Bunge. Visual learners will be out of luck for this class. The very few videos he graces us with do not seem to prepare us for his version of quizzes/exams. I suppose he expects us to already know the material. If that is the case, why pay to take this course?
Professor Bunge is a great guy and truly cares. I would zoom his countless times. He was always willing and always set time aside. With that said he tends to be a tough grader that sometimes is unclear about why you missed what you did. He did a great job and showed that he actually cared.
The class was tough as it is, especially being online. But Bunge decided to make it asynchronous as well making it even more difficult. There was a point during the semester he just didn't upload or email anything for 2 weeks. Tough course, lack-luster professor
He starts a topic by teaching you the 5 different wrong ways to go about doing it, and then proceeds to show you the algorithm for solving it after you are comfortable solving it the wrong way. This is a horrible teaching philosophy. Bunge is the toughest grader I have ever had. This hurts because the entire grade is based on tests and quizzes.
As nice of a guy as Ryan is. i don' think he should be teaching this course. he is really smart and thus teaches as if you already understand the material. His lectures do not correspond with the weekly quizzes. half the time the class sits awkwardly quiet while Ryan asks questions as no one responds, he doesn' take the hint that no one understands
Avoid this professor at all costs. Provides vague answers to questions on already extremely difficult without caring if you understood his answer. Extremely lazy professor in terms of providing exam study guides. Quizzes often times do not correspond with the material you learned in class. Great guy, extremely terrible professor. Simple as that.
Bunge is a really smart guy. I think he has a hard time dumbing things down for his students. He teaches the material as if everyone already knows everything. This is far from true. Most of the time the entire class has no idea what is going on. He is always willing to meet outside of class to answer your questions. He does seem like he cares tho
Makes material 10000x harder than it needs to be. No book. Quizzes are nothing like the material taught in class. Great guy but awful teacher. Tough grader on his tests and quizzes. Not sure how it's even possible to do well in his course.
He is awful. End of story. Should not be a teacher. Take this class elsewhere.
I feel like he gets a bad rap, but his teaching is overall good. The material is what makes the class hard.
From what it seems, Professor Bunge has improved a lot from what previous reviews say about him, He provides a lot of resources for learning the material and makes the processes for how to do algorithms and other problems clear. The material he provides in lectures and resources is very consistent with what you will see on the exam.
Quizzes on most Fridays over content from the week BEFORE. I do have my problems with this class but overall I think the prof gets a bad rap. As long as you take notes every class and do the practice problems before exams you will get a good grade
The majority of your grade is based on five exams and the final. The exams are 6 pages and you only get 50 minutes to do them so hopefully you're fast at math. Quizzes every Friday that you also only get about 5-10 minutes to do. Homework only counts if it's higher than your lowest exam score. He seems to know his content but can go really fast.
Bunge is very caring and precise, but that being said, be prepared to dedicate all of your time to this class to pass. Every Friday, a quiz, which are more difficult than what's covered in class. The rest of your grade is determined on how well you do on exams (6 pages), you have 50 mins. Don't take this class if you're bad at math, he's fast.
I ended up really enjoying this class! Prof. Bunge was very good at explaining, did lots of example problems, and was very willing to help with questions and homework whenever you need it. Practice problems were incredibly helpful, and I think the workload was very manageable. He also is generous with grading and gives you as many points possible.
I don't know why he gets so much hate, but he is a very good professor. He teaches clearly and knows what he is doing. Yes, there are weekly quizzes and those are annoying, but you get what you put into the class. If I studied for the quizzes more, I could have easily got an A. In order to get an A you just have to put in the time.
The organization and structure of this class is all over the place. Quizzes every Friday are over material from the week before, and there is little to no clarity about the material on the quizzes. Practice problems do not reflect the quiz/test contention. Final grade determined on 3 tests and weekly quizzes, almost impossible to save a poor grade
He is a very smart guy that he almost forgets he is teaching a class of students who are trying to learn the material.
So much for 100 level class, quiz every week in class
I wouldn't recommend this professor. Please try your absolute best to stay away from him.
He really isn't that bad of a professor. If you don't understand a subject he provides material online that is further explaining it. If that doesn't work then he leaves his door open during office hours and is always happy to help. The class is hard but your cramming a lot of material into a small amount of time.
you'll have a difficult in this class, that's it.
Don't take this professor avoid him!
You will actually learn something. Grade is based solely on quizzes, tests, and final. Super unorganized and you have to teach yourself to be successful. He tries to help if you go to his office hours but is too smart to dumb things down and will talk about everything but your question. Final exam was 12 pages
Don't do it
If you want to finish a semester with all your hair do not take this class, I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!!.
Very confusing teacher, talks about a lot other than what were learning and there's a quiz every Friday and the homework is like 5 pages long sometimes.
I mean he gotta be the worst professor ever, you really need to put a lot of hours to pass his class. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU DONT HAVE TO. I gave him 1 because that's the lowest I can give him.
The class can be challenging, but engaging with the material and using tools like unstuck study for study prep can help. The professor is willing to assist, though explaining concepts clearly isn't always easy.
The homework is suggested so it doesn't get graded. The only things you get graded on is quizzes, exams and attendance. The lectures taught little to nothing. The exams were very complex and not like the homework. He didn't teach well enough in class to have those hard exams. I would recommend taking anyone but him.
Take this class at a community college if you can. This guy is basically the only option for this class and he is not a great one. Extremely boring lectures 4 days a week with quizzes every single Friday. You'd be better off skipping class and teaching yourself if you could but he takes attendance points which is ridiculous. Avoid this guy
Just don't do it. Thank me later.
Professor overall is very good and knowledgeable, the only problem is how the course is structured. quizzes every Friday, cumulative finals, very hard content with little help.
Horrible teacher
He taught class as if he was doing the math for his own enjoyment, and never seemed to actually care if the class was comprehending anything he taught, then he'd give us quizzes every friday and tests that look nothing like the practice problems from the textbooks
Class is lecture/slides based. Very easy topics (kind of middle school/early high school stuff, like mean and mode, linear, logarithms, pie charts and probability) but confusing exam questions. Better to pay attention in class: kind of boring, but worth it. He answers questions/gives examples. Take extra lab sheets for practicing before exams.
He's a smart dude but not a good teacher for someone who struggles with math. Quizzes every week and most of his practice problems aren't even on the quiz.
Not only does the textbook teach better, but it also has a better personality. I had to take this class for a gen ed requirement, I would have rather been in prison.
Although the content was challenging, he taught it thoroughly and always answered students questions. The main issue was his constant unnecessary comments about what students were doing during class. He was very condescending.
