Prof. Davis is one of my all time favorite professors and this was one of my favorite classes. There is a ton of reading, but that's what you have to expect from political philosophy and the readings are very interesting. Lectures were the highlight of my week. Entertaining, funny, enlightening, etc. Class is hard but in a very rewarding way!

Prof. Davis is one of my favorite professors at BYU. He is hilarious! The class is so enjoyable as you are engaged in fascinating discussion. Learned so much. NEVER pushes an agenda. Lots of reading (but interesting and no quizzes - just for discussion). Davis wants you to succeed and to like school. Would give everyone A's if he could. Take class!

I LOVED this class!!! It was enjoyable, humorous, and informative. Professor Davis is incredibly intelligent, engaging, and caring. It is possible to get an A in this class, especially if you engage in class discussions. It is challenging and does require a lot of reading, but it will truly develop you as a student & as a person. If this is your first philosophy class, it might be pretty tough for you. Your grade consists of just a handful of assignments and two tests, so every point counts. Professor Davis is hilarious though, and makes himself very available to help. I didn't get the grade I wanted, but I learned a lot and I'm happy I took the class.

Professor Davis is a fabulous professor!! His lectures were funny and applicable. He is super helpful as well. Assignments can be difficult, make sure you are besties with your TAs, they grade everything and even wrote a lot of the quizzes and tests.

I loved his class!!! It makes me sad I'm not majoring in philosophy. He makes lectures really enjoyable and explains the readings in a meaningful way. He's well aware of students and their struggles--even when they simply seem bored during lectures. This class has changed the way I think and how I view politics and philosophy.

This class is difficult, but Professor Davis makes it worth it! He is hilarious, helpful, and makes class a pleasure to attend. Make sure you are tight with your TA--they do all the grading.

Best experience. HARD. but classes like this are worth your investment. He had some incredible schooling, It's a formative the process of developing yourself, not something that will be kind on your GPA.

Professor Davis has been my favorite professor at BYU. He really cares about his students. The lectures are not necessary, but are totally worth it. He is hilarious, too. The class wasn't easy, but it was very interesting.

He's a good guy. He keeps you entertained, but all you need to do is Sparknote for your papers and attend study sessions for the tests.

Dr. Davis is amazing, super funny and caring. His class is actually one of the easier civ GE's. You write one short paper every week; go to your TA for help to get an A every time. Must go to class b/c tests are based more on lecture than readings. STUDY for the tests! Tries to get to know all of his students & calls them by name.

Political Science may not be everyone's forte, but Professor Davis sure makes the journey fun. I felt super disorganized BECAUSE I didn't use all the Learning Suite examples and aids (or do all the readings). Help from TAs is a MUST. Reading is important, but read the summaries provided beforehand. Keep up on the alternating assignments.

I loved this class. This was my favorite class I have taken in college. The class is difficult and there is an obnoxious amount of reading but the material is fabulous. Prof. Davis really cares and does absolutely everything to help students learn and be successful. If you go to class and are close with the TAs you will do well.

Professor Davis is brilliant and hilarious in the way he teaches philosophy. Political philosophy has a lot of room to be subjective, but his grading standards are clear. The class teaches argument formulation as well as philosophy, so it is applicable to many people. Everything for the midterm/final is on the slides. Incredible class.

Dr. Davis is a very passionate and caring teacher! He has an incredible command of political philosophy which amazed me every day of class. Each lecture is well-organized and keeps you laughing and interested. There is a decent amount of work (it is a Civ class), but overall what I learned from Dr. Davis made this class well worth taking!

I loved his class! He is a little bit of a nerd but embraces it and so it adds to the class. He works really hard to make very difficult concepts interesting. This class is not one to take for your GPA but it's worth taking. Definitely broadens your perspective on many issues. He is really understanding and wants to help.

He's a super funny guy, and does his best to make a very boring class enjoyable. He's really quirky but really funny.

If you are going to take this class, TAKE IT FROM DAVIS! The class itself is pretty hard. He offers so much help though, so it is doable. The class is so interesting and entertaining. You'll want to be there every day. One of my absolute favorite professors at BYU.

Professor Davis is my favorite professor so far. He's a FANTASTIC lecturer, very engaging and very funny, if quirky. Definitely take this class from him. If the grademongers below scare you, then skip the readings, pay attention in class, go to weekly and pre-test TA reviews, and get feedback before submitting each short writing. Can't go wrong.

Professor Davis gives very good lectures and is entertaining, but almost too intellectual. The class has few assignments, but they tend to be difficult. The reading material is very challenging and not very accessible at times. While I liked the class, the tests were absolutely brutal; lectures and review sessions don't prepare you hardly at all.

PLEASE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! I can't put into words how I feel about his classes! He is the best professor I've ever had!!! He is willing to work with you at your own pace. He is very considerate and understanding. If you put in the hard work, you will most definitely pass! It was very refreshing to go to his class, after a long day at work!

Lectures aren't necessary, but GO!!! They are insightful, and also better than a reality tv-show. Amazing in-class discussions. Tests were reasonable. Short weekly assignments. There was a LOT of reading, but it was really interesting, and is skiable in a pinch.

Professor Davis is very organized and clear with what is expected of students. The course material is interesting and requires a lot of tough reading, but it is explained well in his lectures. Professor Davis and his TAs are easy to get a hold of and are very generous in the help and advice they give! The lectures are amazing and he posts PP notes.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE WITH HANCOCK. Worst class I've ever been in, bar none. Got a bad virus and withdrew (nice coincidence). Tried again next semester with Davis -- hands down my favorite class I've ever taken. I find the material interesting, but even if you don't, Davis makes it h*cka relatable. TA reviews super helpful. Don't need textbook.

Best professor I've had at BYU! His lectures are entertaining, engaging, hilarious, and informative. He really cares about his students and it shows in the way he teaches. Homework load is light, and although there is a lot of reading assigned, you can get by with just listening in lectures. Can't recommend Dr. Davis and this class enough!

One of my very favorite classes I have ever taken. I looked forward to class every day. Ryan Davis is a serious gem who cares so much about his students. He is so funny but sooo smart. His quirky sense of humor keeps you on your toes. Not an easy class by any means but so worth it.

Dr. Davis is awesome! The class is graded on two exams and weekly papers which are around 300 words each. I highly recommend going to the TA's for help on the papers if you have the time, otherwise you likely won't score very well on them. Both of the tests are brutal (got 80% on both multiple choice sections) but the class is curved!

Professor Davis is one of the best Professors I have had. He is incredibly smart and has an amazing command of his field, he will help you outside of class if you seek his help. The class is hard, but rewarding because you learn things and it makes you think. Focus, and you'll be fine. Be brave and take the class because Prof Davis is amazing!

His lectures are some of the best I have ever attended. If I wasn't a Bio major, I would take more classes from Dr. Davis. He cares about his students and wants them to do well. It's nice to take a class from a professor who balances course content with student questions so well. His class isn't an easy-A, but so SO worth it. Take Pol 202! Best GE.

Harvard graduate but too humble to let you know. He teaches this class in a great and interesting way. In my class almost everyone participated. The tests are so so so hard though. No amount of studying prepares you for them. Luckily he curves a TON! Prepare yourself for some Taylor Swift if you chose to take the class.

Prof. Davis was hilarious which is awesome for a general ed class that can be boring to many. Very clever and was open about grading from the get go. Theres lots of reading, but you can find most of it online. His lectures were great, and had many fun activities in class. I wouldn't necessarily say you won't pass if you don't go, but that it helps.

Professor Davis is a great teacher. Makes a super boring subject interesting. To get a good grade, you must go to the TAs. Tests are hard, but doable.

Dr. Davis is the best!!! This class isn't that hard and it covers 2 generals! The readings aren't super necessary. The TA's are super willing to help with the writings. Pay attention in class...I didn't that much and I wish I would have because I could have learned so much from this good man.

As a person and professor- Professor Davis is seriously the best. That being said, I really struggled in the class. The tests are HARD, and there is a fair amount of outside reading. The TAs are good at being available but do grade everything. A lot of the readings are dense. Don't be fooled, this is a PHILOSOPHY class and that is what you study.

Poli 202 with Ryan Davis was the best class I have ever taken at BYU. Professor Davis is incredibly intelligent and his lectures are the most interesting you'll find. This class made me consider being a Political Science major, but sadly enough, the other professors are not nearly as good as Professor Davis. Take this class! (The tests are tough)

I LOVE Professor Davis. He is so caring and tells the students so often that he is available to meet or discuss anything. This semester we lost a member of the faculty who was close to Davis and we took a class period to grieve/talk/feel, then went right back to teaching the next meeting, it truly spoke to the kind of person he is.

Very accommodating professor and super nice! If you dont understand anything (like I did) he will go over things step by step with you. He is willing to meet one on one if you schedule with him. The writing assignments and exams are tough, but Professor David does his best to help prepare. The Test Prep short answers are a must do

Professor Davis is the best! There are 2 tests, occasional quizzes, and weekly papers (250 words). The lectures are very helpful. It was not a big time commitment, but it is important to do well on every assignment because there are not that many. The TAs are a great resource for help, and Professor Davis's door is always open.

By far my favorite professor. He is hysterical. Go to lectures to understanding class reading. Go to the TA review every week. The TA's are the best, super helpful. There are weekly papers, but they are much easier if you get help from the TA's! The tests are hard, but passable.

Ok. take this class. Ryan Davis is what professors at BYU should be like. He's incredibly smart but also not cocky. Just beware that his tests are literally the hardest tests you'll ever take. I had to study over 10 hours for each one. But it never felt like busy work. Honestly I feel like I'm a more complete person after taking this class.

Davis is extremely passionate about philosophy. The lectures were for the most part engaging and I laughed a lot. He will stay past time during his office hours to make sure everyone is helped and his TAs are phenomenal (USE THEM AS A RESOURCE). It's not meant to be hard, but the final knocked my grade from an A to a B.

I really enjoyed my class with Professor Davis. This was my first philosophy course and he helped me understand what was going on. He is ALWAYS willing to help. Him and his TA's are always accessible. The tests are hard in this course. Professor Davis hates tests but he still has to do them. However, you are given a lot of resources to succeed.

Greatest professor of this dispensation. He is super funny and smart and it is an awesome class.

Class isn't required, but you will want to go because it is so entertaining. I cannot say enough to recommend Prof Davis. He focuses on his students and the best way to teach them. He even tried memorizing everyone's name in a giant lecture hall. The tests are hard, and the material can be confusing, but he makes it conquerable.

I cannot recommend Ryan W. Davis enough! He is easily my favorite professor. The lectures are entertaining, and he does a fantastic job of presenting philosophy in a way that makes you want to learn more! The tests are hard but doable and he is always willing to meet with people outside of class! Definitely worth it

Professor David is one of the best BYU has to offer. He studied at Ivy League schools, and it shows. He cares about his students and balances having a fun lecture with controlling the class. He is hilarious. I look forward to taking him again sometime soon.

Professor Davis is easily my favorite Professor of the semester, and perhaps my favorite professor of all time. His class isn't an "easy A" persay, but it's easy to get an A if you go to the TA reviews and participate in class. Davis does great at making the class interesting/entertaining while not cutting any educational corners. 10/10 class!

Ryan Davis was always willing to talk me through assignments and was readily available outside of class. I learned a lot from him on philosophy-related concepts, but also just on how to be a generally good human being. Go to the TA review sessions, make the TA's your best friend. The POWERPOINTS are the KEY to the tests and quizzes. They are on LS.

This class was a real gem. Prof Davis gives the best lectures. They are really engaging and memorable. He is great at moderating discussion, and is very respectful of opinions. He made political philosophy mean a lot to me. I don't think he's teaching POLI 202 anymore, but hopefully he will again soon. I really can't stress how great Prof Davis is.

I really loved Professor Davis but this class was hard for me! The writings where graded so that it was almost impossible to get 100% unless you spent lots of time with the TAs. The tests also had a lot of content and where hard! But the lectures were engaging and there was lots of helpful object lessons!

Professor Davis is one of the most intelligent people I have ever encountered. He cares so much about his students oo. Although this class was quite a bit of work, it was the most rewarding class I have ever taken. If you want to push yourself and really learn, this is an amazing class to take!

This is the first review I've ever written for a professor and Ryan Davis really deserves it. My favorite professor at BYU. The material of this class is difficult but Professor Davis teaches it in the best way possible. His lectures stick and you will genuinely become a better person. He is hilarious, kind of awkward and super witty. Love him.

Changed my life kinda. He made philosophy actually really interesting and made me think about life a lot. He's also really funny and we had a great time as a class. He takes crazy philosophers and somehow makes their ranting make sense. Pay attention during the lectures and you'll be fine. The reading is also nice to do from time to time.

It is not very often I have a class I enjoy going to. Professor Davis occasionally held optional lectures and I went to them. His class truly helped me develop as a person and in four years I think it was the only general elective class that was worth my time. I had a rough time with the reading and writing but I am very glad I took the class.

I took this class (POLI202) to knock out some final GE credits and thoroughly enjoyed it. Professor Davis is one of the best lecturers I've had during college. The lectures were funny and informative, HW was relevant, the TA network was great, and the tests did not contain any deceiving questions. Lectures and reviews were Zoom-friendly

Professor Davis is amazing! Everything on the tests was in the lectures. There are weekly writing assignments, a couple of quizzes, a midterm, a final, and a final writing assignment. The TAs are helpful and hold reviews. Professor Davis is a quick responder to emails and has lots of office hours. If you put in the time you can get an A.

The content of POLI 202 was hard and often went straight over my head, but Dr Davis was happy to answer questions and help in every way. He made difficult concepts interesting and relevant. He is a professor truly invested in giving his students a learning experience. Weekly TA reviews were super helpful in this class as well!

This was a difficult class. If you are looking for an easy class, this is probably not the one you want to take. The writings are tricky to get right, and the tests are 60% of the grade. Having said that, I thought the class was absolutely fascinating. Dr. Davis is incredible, and I really appreciated having him.

Prof. Davis is great. I took this class for GEs but enjoyed it. There were SO many readings (optional) and weekly papers that were difficult but prepared students for exams. All exam content is covered in class. He and the TAs are available. Funny guy, knows his stuff, and makes the class enjoyable.

If you need to take a philosophy class, take it with Professor Davis, he is great at explaining complex topics simply, and he works so hard to help you be successful. His lectures are entertaining, there is lots of help available on assignments, go to weekly TA reviews and you'll be great.

Dr. Davis made this by far my most enjoyable GE! I've never taken a class from a better lecturer. He is very passionate about the material, really makes you think, and makes this class really feel applicable to life. This professor was very excited to teach his students. Attendance is not mandatory but lectures are key to go to for a passing grade. You will have all the tools you need to easily pass the class. Grading isn't very harsh. Seriously wish I could take every class with this teacher, Dr. Davis is the best!

Professor Davis is HILARIOUS! He is like an excited child explaining his favorite toy to you except the toy is political philosophy. There is a TON of reading in this class, but it's not technically mandatory. Most people in the class didn't do it. I thought it was a fascinating class and Professor Davis is a very charismatic teacher.

He is the best! This is a challenging class because it's difficult material. You will need to spend time reading. You should also spend a lot of time in the TA lab because he picks amazing TAs. If you participate and go in for help he is willing to work with you in your grade. Not an easy class but so worth it.

Very willing to work with you, especially if you express from the beginning that you care about the class and are willing to work hard. Good lectures with slides that you can access throughout the semester, very helpful for studying for the tests. The TAs also provide a weekly review that's super helpful.

I took his POLI 368R class which was his philosophy on Taylor Swift class. Ryan is the nicest guy. He is personable, accomodating, and so chill. He negotiates with us about what will be most benefical for us regarding tests and discussions. There is a lot of reading but he makes it interesting and always provides good discussions. He's so precious

Dr. Davis is amazing! His classes are so fun and he loves getting participation and interactions from students. Some of the exams use LSAT style questions which can be tricky but he is more than willing to work with students on their grades as long as they are willing to put in some effort. He is such a great professor!!!

Hands down one of the best professors at BYU. If you want to be educated, take this class from Davis. If you want the easiest A possible, then take something else. I really grew in this class, it was a pleasure.

Fantastic guy and class. He teaches a pretty boring topic in an entertaining way, often bringing in food for object lessons! You will have to work to understand the content. Don't just show up to lecture and expect to ace exams. Use his TAs, because they are outstanding. Going to their reviews and office hours is what got me my A.

This class is actually so fun and I feel like I learned a lot. I feel like a lot of this class is just learning how to think and organise your thoughts in a certain way, which I enjoyed. The hardest part though is the multiple choice quizzes and tests. I wasn't prepared for the way he writes questions, which can be quite confusing.

Professor Davis is the absolute goat. There is a lot of assigned reading, yes. But to be completely honest, you can do really well in the class as long as you pay attention to his lectures, which by the way are incredible. He's hilarious, relates all the content to your life in a silly way, and just generally has a good time with his teaching.

Practice midterms? Practice finals?? Exam study guides??? Tons of TA hours and exam reviews???? Ooh la la! I loved this class and how it was taught

Prof Davis is hands down the best professor I've ever had. He's hilarious and makes his lectures so engaging and makes the material actually interesting. I recommend going to every class-most of the test questions come from the lectures/the slides he uses. Ask him and the TA's for whatever help you need-they're really great.
