Prof Hermle is awesome! He is very understanding and straight forward with his lectures. 1 midterm 1 final, lab asgnmnts, and hw. Hws were pretty tough but he gives great feedback and will help. He is young and understands our struggles and always asks how we are with the material and adjusts accordingly. I predict he is going to be one of the best

Prof Hermle did really well as a first time community college professor. Super chill and forgiving. Prof Hermle is best when asking questions or talking to him one-on-one either in the lab or in office hours. He lost the class a lot when he was typing code in lecture. Make sure you understand pointers well! Also gives good programming tips.

Ryan is very nice and funny. he is a new professor who just started teaching community colleges. His lecture is a little bit confusing sometimes but overall he is a good teacher and fair grader.

Overall Ryan Hermle is an amazing instructor, he explains conceptual idea's really well and is hella funny! Keeping up with the reading quizzes makes understanding new concepts really easy. The homework assignments are challenging and he'll offer as much help as you need. Put in the work and you'll get an A. Would definitely take again!

Great professor! Gives great example codes that homework is based on. The quizzes are easy and you have unlimited attempts. The exams are short answer with a written algorithm. The knowledge I gained from this class carried me through the first 2 months of Cisp 360!!! If you can take him for both CISP 300 & 360!!

Hermle is a great professor with a great sense of humor. He's funny and his lectures are (usually) pretty clear. Additionally, his assignments are fun and challenging. Some of the homework projects can take a few hours, so make sure to start them early. He gives you plenty of time though, and he's generous when it comes to extending due dates.

I took Hermle for 360 and 400, and he's one of the best profs I have had at ARC in any field. He explains programming concepts as clearly as plain English. His classes felt like a breeze to me not because they're easy (many others had problems around me), but because he teaches the subject so well. He also gives tips about programming in the field.

Prof. Herlme is one you want to take if you want to understand and like programming in C++. He will go through the lectures materials line by line and will explain all the difficult concepts. READ THE TEXTBOOK, and you'll make your life much easier through CISP 400 class. I strongly recommend Prof. Hermle for everyone in CS major.

Professor Hermle is one of the best CISP professors in ARC College , if not the best. His way of teaching makes it easy to understand the concept of C++ and C. He will always help if your stuck on your code. Plus, he is very caring and inspirational.

Reading the few negative comments don't reflect whom Hermle is. It reflects who the author is. Tough assignments but you learn a lot from them. If you read the text you'll understand the lectures. Absolutely take him for 300, he's one of the few professors who teach Python. Homework is super important. Tests aren't too bad and take up a good chunk of the grade. Lectures can get confusing but I wouldn't panic if the stuff in class goes over your head.

I didn't have a good professor in my previous class (cisp 300) but professor hermle helped me out with filling all the gaps I had in programming and introduced me to programming in a fun way. he will make you like programming. Each chapter will have 1-3 homework projects. but you have to read a lot.

He is one of the best Professors in the whole Computer Science Department. Respected and always works towards your success. I mean it, he will do anything he can to help you understand the concept. I have enjoyed both this class and CISP300 last semester. I would recommend him either if you are beginner or expert.

Theres a reason why every CS student at ARC wants to take Professor Hermle. That being said the assignments are difficult but the exams are mild in comparison. From the class he was a great teacher at learning lectures, a caring teacher, and also was helpful to all his students. Assignments and Discussion boards were straight forward easy. Honestly a lot of CISP professors are pretty terrible. But Ryan is amazing and has very clear lectures. He doesn't try to overcomplicate the material (like Tak) and he makes himself very accessible to questions. His tests aren't hard if you do the homework. Be ready to buy the zybooks textbook though, since all the homework is done on there.

Sometimes wastes time during lecture. Have your questions ready BEFORE lab or else he will get stuck helping someone else. Not a fan of how class is structured, too much time spent on the basics that we learned in 300 & feels like we are cramming the difficult material before final. The best CS professor I have met so far. As everyone knows the pandemic in 2020, this semester wasn't usual. There was only one test. (It should have had three tests) Professor Hermle was very responsible. He gave a lot of help for the assignments. (The assignments weren't easy for me) You won't regret that take CS classes from him.

He has some really cool and fun projects that when you look back at your work, you'll be impressed. You cover a lot of interesting and important topics and learn a lot. Some projects can be a little tougher than you think at first, but all of them are doable. Online reading, projects, and exams make up your grade. Don't skip assignments it'll hurt.

Prof. Hermle is knowledgeable, down-to-earth, and provides some very cool projects. He actually cares about his students learning and is always open to questions and feedback. There's a lot of busy work but nothing too difficult. Uses an official discord server for P360 and P400 as of Fall 2020, so it's easy to get help at most times of day.

Not sure about offline, but online with Hermle is amazing. Not only are his lectures insightful, his assignments are straightforward and, rather than tests, he conducts presentations to show and correct your understanding. Additionally, his assignments try to exhibit practical use for code. Lastly, being asynchronous lets you work your own time.

This class has tough assignments upon first glance. You need to put time and effort into them or else you'll end up like the people who gave out bad ratings Prof Hermle does a great job making you think crticially about how to implement your code from these assignments and you will learn a lot If you don't want to think hard find a different field.

This course is the most helpful course I have ever taken before. If you can take time to study lectures and textbooks, you will pass at a high level, and you will have a solid foundation in coding. I really hope that all the computer science classes can be taken with him.

Took online, Asynchronous. Materials cost $100. Those whining about his lectures just have the wrong study habits. The best approach is to go straight into the textbook/assignments, since being hands on and asking for help when needed is most the engaging and teaches best. Of course passively staring at a screen isn't going to teach you much.

Professor Hermle provides all the necessary tools and more to succeed in his class. His lectures are very helpful as he does not only go over the necessary content but also provides examples right after. The labs/assignments he gives out will teach you how to debug and write programs independently, which is essential for future classes and careers.

First, I'm not a smart student+ this class is hard because it's CS. It's true that the class has a lot of labs and one assignment every week or 2. Textbook+Zybook, but the lecture covers most of the impt infor. My tip to learn in this class is watching the lecture+its .ppt, and run the code in there. CS is self-learned, challenges grow us up

So Professor's Course material is definitely you want to work on and learn as it prepares you for Industry level coding and problem-solving. His projects pushes your limits to learn and grow. This class is definitely hard and requires a lot more determination and time but never learnt so realistic stuff in any other class so far. Best Professor.

Between the readings, practice labs, google, prof office hours + notes, and discord chat there are more than enough resources to figure out the tough parts of this class. It's up to you to reach out. Grading structure is crystal clear.

Hermle gives more resources to help you succeed than any other professor I have seen at any of the Los Rios community colleges. His lectures + zybooks explain everything that is needed to complete all of the assignments with 100%. The workload is somewhat heavy, but not super challenging. If you actually want to learn C++, take his classes.

I came in knowing this class would be a lot of work, but the weekly load turned out to be very manageable. He uploads walkthrough for most of the assignments and is always available to answer questions during office hours. I took Professor Hermle for CISP400 and I would absolutely take him again! So far, he has had the best lectures out of any online CIS course I've taken. In my experience, as long as I watched and followed along with the lectures and completed the zybooks, I felt confident in the assignments. The Strousup textbook was more for extra support.

Loved his class, has about 3 assignments due per week; one discussion, one chapter reading with activities in reading, and an assignment. In order to get full credit for discussions is to do it on the Friday before the due date, but if you do the whole thing Sunday he only knocks 2-3 points off.

Prof. Hermle was the best professor I took this semester. I was worried this class would be hard but professor Hermle's teaching and his caring attitude made the class easier and enjoyable. He is always available when needed and helps you with a great attitude. The projects are fun and strengthens your practical skills.

I took his online asynchronous class over the Spring. The work was challenging, but it was a chance to complete projects similar to what I might do in an actual job. For the projects, he has videos that go through what to do step-by-step, so those are easy points. He also works with students during office hours, and you can tell he really cares.

This guy is awesome. He structures the class very fairly around homework, group projects, and tests. The tests are easily preparable for if you do the cheat sheet right, cuz that's literally half to all of the studying you need to do. He is super kind, gives you feedback that is useful and is accessible through discord for questions a lot.

He makes learning fun with exciting projects that encourage you to go above and beyond the requirements, and if you aren't understanding something or need help with a project, he gets excited and enjoys explaining it to you. The first couple weeks were rough with how much school work you get, but once you make it to week 5 it's not too bad. He knows what he's talking about, and will explain things in great detail when asked. My only issue with the class was we didn't have in class lectures, it was more of a study hall.

Professor Hermle has a very fun class and is really approachable. The in-class portion is sort of like an open study hall which I really like. It gives you a chance to work on the material in a low-pressure environment, so you can easily get help if you need it, but you also can do things at your own pace. I prefer this over traditional lectures.

Honestly the best teacher I have ever had. I don't think I'll have another class even half as good. Hermle is incredibly good at helping you understand topics. YOU WILL BE CONFUSED...this is the point of cs where it gets difficult, but if you ask questions in his class you will walk away with tons of understanding of the content.

It was certainly a step up from CISP 300, but the Zybooks and Codelabs hammer in the course material so you learn through constant repetition. Prof was helpful and pretty chill, the midterm and final were 30% combined so make sure you understand the material for those. Uses discord for class participation along with attending the labs.

A fantastic class/teacher. Mad the class is hard?? Don't be a CS major then. Lol like what. He is a supportive professor who genuinely cares about the students. Hardest class of my life. I struggled with every quiz and exam. However, it really made me appreciate the work and actually make me want to learn the language. He is so helpful if you ask for help. He will break down the subject, but during a lecture just ask before you get too in the lecture and are confused. Learned the hard way lol

Probably the best professor I have ever had. Class is fun and engaging. The coursework is difficult and sometimes it feels overwhelming, but if you can sit down and focus it turns into only a few hours each week. Don't use chat gpt or stuff like that, the tests are all done by hand. You will learn a lot if you take the time for it.

I liked the graphical projects a lot though I wish they were a little bit less on rails. The discussion boards on Canvas were replaced with a Discord discussion point system, which has its pros and cons. Solid course overall.

A big load of online reading and interactive assignments, but it's all reasonable enough to learn. Lenient grader, but needs to be on time with assignments. Hermle's CISP400 is challenging but rewarding. The course structure takes some adjusting, but he's super helpful if you ask questions. unstuckstudy and the free textbook made studying a breeze. Definitely worth taking, just be ready to put in the work.

His assignments always had incredibly clear instructions and he was always available just in case you couldn't quite figure something out. There were also tons of opportunities for extra credit and if you participated during lecture he would shore up your participation grade!

His class actually encouraged me to learn/use useful skills because of how projects are structured (a first at ARC for CISP, since everything has just been outdated or theory focused so far.) I would take him if you can, and don't be afraid of standing out in his class.
