Ryan is an awesome teacher. You can tell he really cares about the subject matter and cares that his students understand it. Asks insightful questions to students and enjoys feedback. Would definitely take more of his classes! Makes me re-think my major and makes me want to pursue political science! Great class, great teacher! Lite HW, fun essays!
Great teacher! I never hated being in his class and i had his 8am class. Not much homework. Great lectures. I would definitely take his class again.
He's a great and has passion for the subject. I wish the notes were always on a power point instead of him writing of repeating it out loud. Also it would of been nice if we had more time with the study guide he handed out before the final. He is interesting and knows his stuff though. Only two tests the whole semester
Mr. H was absolutely an amazing Political Science teacher! His lectures were clear, interesting, and well delivered. One can easily tell that Mr. H knew the material and was very up-to-date with current events. There are only two tests the entire semester! There is also two extra credit opportunities! I would take him again.
Best professor Ive had. He's new to teaching but already better than those who've been teaching for decades. He's funny, passionate, straightforward, & great at what he does. I thought Id hate this class, but it pretty quickly became my favorite. Lectures are fun & engaging. No HW - just notes, a midterm & final, & group project (+ extra credit).
Probably one of the best professors I will have during my college years. His lectures are always relevant and interesting. Tests are basically the study guide. No homework and lots of extra credit. Take him, you wont regret it.
I never leave reviews, however this teacher is just amazing. He's so passionate about what he teaches, it makes the class overall way more interesting. His class is pretty easy, a midterm, a final, a group presentation (graded individually) and chances for extra credit. Hes hilarious, and if i could take his course again i 100% would.
show up because lectures are important.. what he says in class is what you are going to be tested on .. great teacher
This was overall a tough class because none of us knew our grade when we took our final. He takes months to grade. So, no one knew where they stood in the class until after the final. It is either his way or the high way. He doesnt explain homework / assignments thoroughly. If you ask questions during class, he has a smart answer to respond.
Gives no more than 10 assignments for the whole semester. Tests are heavy based & if you don't understand the questions bc of his wording or pov u are going to have a hard time getting a good grade. More than half of the class dropped out bc of rude persona & lack of explanation on assignments. Makes you buy an online textbook that you don't need.
If you are the student who goes to class to learn I would not suggest this teacher. He only assigned three homework assignments, I was not sure if I was ready for the midterm or final. He offers a lot of extra credit and the class is an easy A if you take good notes. He talks a lot about his opinions and really hates it when you use your phone.
He can come off a bit rude at times, but overall he's a great teacher. He has minimal assignments throughout the semester and they're mostly just typing up your notes. He doesn't allow any electronics is bring paper and a pencil. His tests are exactly the notes so take good notes. The final project is a group project but you get graded individually
Comes off a bit arrogant, but he doesnt give much assignments. Grade is mostly based on tests. Not very clear at explaining if you ask questions hell give you a smart answer. When he writes notes its all over the place. Make sure you show up to class.
He is passionate about what he is teaching. Easy to approach and talk to. He doesn't like cell out in class, it is disrespectful. He likes class participation and discussions. Just be engaged and you will have fun while learning. 11
I took him for International Relations, and it was one of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. He does the subject justice and knows his stuff, and I felt I learned a lot of valuable information. He strikes a nice balance between laid back (not assignment heavy, is personable) and authoritative/respectable.
Hes the most self absorbed professor I have ever had. His grading doesnt even make sense. I followed his rubrics on every assignment and earned Cs on all of my work. He is extremely rude and wen I asked him to look over my paper worth half our grade he told me what to fix, I fixed it, and got a C on it and he cant even tell me what I did wrong.
Grading is absurd. He will never give u an A on anything and cant even tell you what you did wrong. Extremely rude I would never take his class again. Horrible personality. If you need an A highly do NOT recommend if you dont really care about getting an A then its an easy class to pass bc all he does is give boring lectures.
If you can run away from this class then do so! Grading: if it's not his way then it's no other way!Gives you a rubric he does not follow.I literally put in SOOO much effort into this class and it still wasn't enough. Effort dosen't matter only his opinion no feedback only smart answers and arrogancy at its finest. Do yourself a favor & stay away!
He can be funny at times, but taking his class in the morning was not it. He grades harshly. He doesn't like when students use their phones in class without permission, he'll call you out on it. His lectures are note heavy, and using your computer to takes notes isn't allowed. If you choose him, prepare for hard work.
One of the worst teachers I have taken! He is so arrogant and rude. He doesn't give A's on any assignment, and doesn't pass back work or offer any feedback. He doesn't give study guides, and all you do every class is take notes from listening to him talk. No computers allowed!!! Tests are tricky.
HONORS An awesome professor. Dont know why the ratings are iffy here. He has a clear grading criteria and tells you exactly how he wants you to be in this class. But you really have to work hard on the essays. So make sure you work on it weeks beforehand. The final is not bad at all either. Really interesting and great class overall.
Horrible. Do not take any of classes. He doesnt even follow his own grading rubric and is very cocky and self absorbed. Gave me Cs all semester and when I asked him what I could fix to get better grades he couldnt tell me what I did wrong (because I followed his rubric). Doesnt help students at all and is extremely rude.
He is an acquired taste for sure, definitely no electronics or walking in front of him if youre late to class. His teaching style is entertaining. As long as you show up to class, youll pass. Definitely one of my favorite courses, I learned so much and it got easier as the semester went on. He also offers SO MUCH extra credit.
Beware do not take course . Professor is not helpful . Very spiteful . You will not enjoy the class. Top five worst professors of all time.
He didn't take into consideration the current pandemic we are going through. He gives extra credit for exams but does not make it out of zero, he adds to your test grade instead. He does seem passionate about what he teaches but never stops talking . Also, he NEVER replies to emails either! It's a no from me.
Hes a great professor! I dont understand the negative reviews. His online course was straight to the point, he posts interesting lectures, you take a quiz on it, and the occasional discussion board. He had assigned two essays besides that, but he isnt a difficult grader. Id recommend him for political science if you want an simple, easy class!
Is not a fair grader. Gave me no credit for an essay because he said I plagiarized when I didn't. Your whole grade is determined on the mid term essay and final. Do bad on on either one of those and you fail.
I dont understand the only positive review. He has not patience. Quizzes are not hard but he based on different subjects or many questions have not the appropriate answer. He uses foul language while talking to the students. If he does a mistake or something wrong he never apologized.
I loved this class! I would highly recommend his class to anyone that needs to take political science.
Take this class!!!!! The profesor is the BEST, there is not much work in the class and the lectures are so fun and interesting. Only two short essays total and we just had an easy quiz every week to make sure we are keeping up with lectures, no tests! No textbook needed. I can not recommend this class enough, I would take it again if I could.
He is a very knowledgable and fun professor - some may not get his sarcasm though. He really knows his stuff and it's clear through his lectures. He's a tough grader, but if you put the effort in you should pass. Only 2 essay's during the semester and modules with lecture/ quizzes at the end of each week.
My only problem with him would be if he asked a question of your opinion on something he will go after you if he doesn't agree, but overall he's well spoken and if you have any questions he will explain into depth for you!
Best class I've taken online, every week you get lectures to watch and a quiz at the end which is easy if you took notes. Then there's a final argumentative paper at the end (I took it during the summer). The professors also very cool and gives extra credit that boosts your grade a lot. I Highly recommend this class if you have/want to take gov!
TAKE HIS CLASS! You wont be disappointedincredible instructor as well as organized! He has been one of the best professors Ive had.
Great Class. Pretty straightforward and informational. The professor has great video lectures and takes the time to answer your questions through email. Taking detailed notes is very helpful to prepare for the assignments and quizzes. No textbook necessary. I would recommend this class and professor to everyone.
This is my second time taking his class because I got a D at first. Now after getting an A I realized that all I had to do was just simply do my work. The lectures are informational and sometimes funny and quizzes are simple as long as you paid attention. Essays are never fun but he gives you all the info needed to do it. Overall, would recommend
Great straightforward class. The grading criteria are clear and if you have any questions he is happy to answer them. The class consisted of watching videos and taking short quizzes. There were two short writing assignments that weren't really difficult. Amazing summer class to take. Consider this professor for summer or full semester class option.
Don't understand the negative reviews, since they don't accurately represent the class. The class is straightforward, not much work, and the teacher is happy to schedule meetings with students to help them. Do the extra credit, helps a lot. When you watch the videos take notes and you should be fine and get a good grade. Highly recommend the class.
His class and assignments are straight to the point. I took his class online and as long as you see the lecture videos you'll be set for the quizzes because the questions are directly answered in the lectures. He cracked some jokes in the lectures but they still got kind of boring, (what lectures don't get boring though).
I thoroughly enjoyed this class and appreciated the Professor's occasional witty quips and commentaries during the lectures. These lectures were interesting and very well organized and helped to keep me focused and engaged. I highly recommend this class if you want to learn about the structures and processes of our Democracy.
Took this class over the summer and it was an easy A! Some of the lectures can be long but as long as you time manage, its easy. His lectures are clear. No textbook required, there were only 2 essays and he even gives a really good, easy extra credit opportunity! Would definitely recommend this professor!
PLEASE TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL! Hes an amazing professor with a straight forward class, he did not give an overwhelming amount of assignments, and his class was very easy to navigate! 10/10
Great class!!!
Great class, took it over the summer and it wasn't hard as long as you watch the lectures. A quiz every week and only a handful of other assignments that aren't too difficult and actually really interesting. Definitely would recommend this class.
When I took his course it was online. So all of the lectures were online, you need to watch all of them if you want to get a good grade in his class because if you don't you will get behind. The lectures were very clear and straight to the point. He is a little hard to get an email from. I would recommend anyone who needs polsc to take him.
I decided to take this class in the summer which means more work to cover in less time. Professor H made everything very clear from the start. One module (lecture) and one quiz a week. All of the answers to the quiz were from the lectures. 2 essays, 1 midterm and 1 final. Easy, reasonable amount of work and I definitely would take itagain.
Hes a very great teacher. I wouldnt pay attention to the negative reviews, his assignments are manageable and his lectures give you all the information you need to pass the quizzes. I took this class in the summer along with two other classes and I managed to pass with a good grade.
Professor Hiscock was fair with his grading. There were a lot of videos of lectures but they aren't too long and they are at a pace at which you can easily take notes. He was also very entertaining in some of the videos. There were two quizzes every week but as long as you take good notes they will be really easy.
I took this course over the summer and even though it was a condensed course I felt like I truly learned a lot from the detailed lectures created by Professor. I really enjoyed learning about different political points of view as well as getting to learn where I feel more politically in touch after taking a quiz provided in the course!
He was an awesome professor for my summer POLSC class. I enjoyed his lectures and his grading criteria was very clear.
I had this class in the summer(non sync) and realized how wrong the initial bad reviews were. It did take time to get done, but overall easy. Everything that is needed for the tests is there in his videos. The trick is to write down notes from all the videos. I also loved that in the few writings I did do, I didn't research/cite much. Awesome!!
Great professor overall! I would definitely take this class if its available, he makes the material easy to learn and has great lectures! Assignments are pretty easy too, just get them all done and its an easy A.
This class was simply amazing. The professor was amazing and the class was as well. It was one of the only classes i've taken where the professor made sure to lecture for every topic and in this time of online lectures, that's very difficult. The course was interesting and topical and the professor was very helpful and a joy to listen to.
While there were test every week, all the information was in his videos that were extremely informative. overall I would give him a 4.8, he is a pretty great professor. I would go on a limb and say one of the best at LMC. Oh if you want to reach him don't send an email but use canvas inbox.
The professor is very detailed in his YouTube videos and ensures that we have all the information needed for his quizzes and for a great semester. As long as effort is shown it is a pretty solid class and he provides feedback for all essays that are submitted. Overall, a great class and would highly recommend this professor.
I took one of his government classes online. As long as you watch the videos and take notes you should be able to pass the class easily. Tests are based on the material you learned as well as essays. I had a great time learning in his class, I definitely would recommend anyone to take his class.
Took his course online, not a bad course at all. He is one of the best teachers to have. He takes time to make sure each student has a clear understanding of the criteria as well as creating lectures that 100% helps with the tests at the end of each module. He is also very open to answering any questions you may have, so dont hesitate to ask!
A great professor! He knows and loves what hes talking about! In-person lectures were fun+ informative. I 100% recommend his class. Watch and take notes on his video lectures and youre guaranteed to pass! Theres a test/quiz at the end of the modules each week but ALL of the answers are in his video lectures. Take his class, its an easy A/pass!
This course was a hybrid and I did not go to lecture but still received an A for the class. The class is easy just watch the video lectures and submit the quizzes on time. Only a few papers with very straight forward prompts!
He is a great professor who cares about his students. Class consists of lecture videos/quizzes weekly, where the quiz questions/answers are in the lectures. 2 writing assignments, 1 is your opinion about politics/your alignment w/ a political party and the other is answer questions from a couple articles. 1 extra credit quiz that boosts your grade
Prof. Hiscock is one of the best teachers at LMC. You will definitely have fun learning in his class. Class consists of weekly lectures & quizzes, all answer are in the lectures, 3 essays (he will help you with your essays) and 1 extra credit quiz.
I learned a lot through this class which is all I ever want out of my electives Pros super easy class great for self studiers. Video lecture with no books to buy. Extra credit. Easy grader Cons Not a lot of feedback on written assignments, graded by very few things which makes every point count he's is a nice guy who knows the subject well
This class was awesome and Professor H is great. He's very clear about his expectations and the content is straightforward (and interesting, in my opinion). Take notes on the lectures and you will do well. There were a couple short writing assignments and one larger paper at the end of the semester, as well as weekly quizzes.
Professor Ryan did a good job teaching the students. He makes sure that he discusses all necessary details that students need to know in the weekly test. He also gives you enough information and resources for the essays. If you are interested or have questions about our government system. He would be glad to help your find the answer.
Professor H does a great job making his lecture videos informational and entertaining. Take good notes and you'll be fine in this class. He only has weekly quizzes (with one extra credit quiz; a big boost to your grade) and a few papers due throughout the semester.
Professor Ryan is enthusiastic about politics; he's engaging, he's real, he wants to fire people up about getting involved. His lectures are thorough, so take lots of notes! It make a big difference for the tests. Get there on time, be ready to discuss the current legislative affairs, participate often and honestly. Go join the Law Society club too
The class mainly consists of prerecorded lectures, take notes and by the end of the week, you'll have a test. The tests are generally pretty easy and don't consist of too many questions. Besides what I have already mentioned you'll have a couple of essays to write, these are also not all that difficult. Overall, it's a stress-free class.
Pretty interesting class. His lecture videos are very helpful for quizzes and papers. There's a quiz every week, and 3 or 4 small papers throughout the semester, it's not too difficult. He's a great professor and I would definitely take another class by him.
Its an enjoyable class that really focuses on the learning aspect rather than busy work, definitely would recommend!
I don't get the negative reviews. If you need to take POLSC10, take him! The class is simple and to the point. Everything you need for the quizzes/exams/papers is provided in the video lectures he makes. Not to mention his lectures are very interesting, I learned a lot! Don't hesitate and take him!
Professor H's class was very straightforward and the perfect online course. I took his asynchronous class which consisted of weekly lectures and quiz, and two writing assignments. His concepts were very clear and easy to comprehend. Highly recommend
He was passionate about teaching and constantly asks his students if they need clarity. You actually get to learn and apply concepts outside of class. Follow instructions and you will pass. His lectures are also easy to understand and he is always open to questions. His teaching style is great, 10/10would take again!
Easy teacher. Taken online he has zoom but its not mandatory. Most of his lectures are yt links and then you take a quiz after not very hard at all just take good notes. DO NOT turn in anything late it will hurt your grade but for the most part assignments are easy.
Professor Hiscocks is great! I love his lectures, they are a bit long but very entertaining. Definitely recommend taking him for Political Science 10, it is an easy class with easy material.
He doesn't seem to care to his student, Never give feedbacks and takes time to grade your essay. If you dont have time to listen and write his pre-recorded video lectures don't take him or else you won't do great in his class. Takes time to respond to emails and when he does, you're lucky if its more a Yes or No. He gives extra credit quiz tho.
he doesn't give feedbacks on essays or papers, he just gives you a grade which for me doesn't help because I would rather know why I got that grade
Easy class, based on lectures. Not many assignments, but turn in everything on time, or you will surely get a penalty. The lectures were informative and fun, exams are MCQs based on lecture notes and good extra credit opportunities. Best professor I had in my first semester.
If you are left leaning and only agree with his views this class is for you. Can you get an A- yes, if you write essays reflecting his opinion. The tests are timed. The honors class is another hook to read and essay to write. He gives no feedback or clear explanation what he's looking for. Take someone else who really teaches PS as an intro class.
You don't have homework too often, so when the time comes be sure to do it. His course is based on lectures which you then will be tested on. He meets his students halfway on exams, he doesn't try to trick us. And I quote, "Teachers that try to trick you have nothing better to do." He's here to educate us and make everyone more politically aware.
Hiscock's is incredibly intelligent of the field. He's also very transparent about what will be on the midterm and final exam which is great. The tests were taken using scantrons and closed-note, so take really meticulous notes!! But, if you pay attention and ask questions, you'll do good! Also, there are two papers which are straightforward.
P. Hiscocks is probably one of the best lecturers I've had. Every week a new module is posted, with a quiz due every Sunday. This means there's no midterm or final. There were a couple of writing assignments throughout the semester. He grades stricter on these so I'd make sure to double-check your writing. Overall, I learned a lot in this class.
Professor Hiscocks truly cares about what his students take away from each lecture. His lectures are discussion-based, where he likes to interact with the students and make sure we can interpret and understand what he's saying, not powerpoint heavy. Exams were essay-style and he gave us the prompts beforehand so we could practice what to write.
Professor Hiscock has a real passion for his subject matter and for educating his students. He's incredibly invested in his students' success and goes above and beyond to help them. While he may be a bit tough when it comes to grading, his students will undoubtedly come away from his class with an in-depth understanding of international politics.
Terrible
This man won't respond to your emails. He claims that it takes him 3 days, no it takes him longer. If you miss more than 1 quiz, he won't care to unlock it for you. I had a discussion that was locked so I emailed it to him, no response. He then decided though to respond to other discussion post wanting more students to participate. Never again.
You will have a quiz every week. You will have around 2 discussions throughout the whole semester. There are around three writing assignments that include an essay as your final. He is an extremely tough grader on all the essay assignments and doesn't even provide any feedback at all to let you know why you got a certain grade or how to better it.
A very good online professor. Weekly assignments weren't hard at all and were easy to manage.
Intro poli-sci. It was really easy not a lot of homework but quizzes matter. He offers lots of extra credit so make use of it. It just memorization is not too bad. Highly recommend he, is passionate about what he teaches and makes the class interesting. PAY ATTENTION take good notes. overall super easy
Took intro. constitutional law.lectures heavy be prepared to take notes. Homework = reading a court case, which is actually interesting. Your tests are handwritten, not too bad. I know it sounds scary but I promise he teaches so well that it erases your fears and anxiety. Just make sure to communicate with him and PAY ATTENTION, SHOW UP TO CLASS.
100% recommend taking this course with this teacher during the summer. 2 quizzes per week and the material is completely covered by the lectures and other reading/videos he assigns to be read. Extra credit opportunity. Make sure to not use AI because he definitely checks.
My class was online/ no zoom but the weekly lectures didn't take long to note down and there are weekly quizzes but aren't hard too do if you've written notes.
I took his Intro to Poli Sci in the summer. It was incredibly difficult. I once asked him about extra credit or how I can succeed in this course, as I wasn't getting the grade I wanted and he pretty much said "I don't know what to tell you, keep studying." He has a lot of lectures and then quizzes. So definitely study up and take good notes.
Want a teacher who is extremely biased, doesn't respect your opinions, and always has to be write? YOU FOUND YOUR GUY! Ryan is not a good teacher, he mixes his opinions into yours. Whole class he would give us articles and claim they are "unbiased" but go on to bash a former president. Made a few of us uncomfortable. I do not recommend Ryan.
Took his honors class, and truly loved it! Learning about politics actually felt fun and we often had group discussions about our assigned readings, I definitely felt connected and heard in the classroom
Amazing person and professor! Really prepared me for university with his style of written exams. Take his class! It's not necessarily an easy class but neither is university. You really learn by having him as your professor. Super kind person and my favorite classes were taught by him.
He is amazing. So smart and actually gives lectures that are incredibly interesting. I have taken him for two courses (including this one) and I love the way he teaches. He challenges you to think critically and answers all of your questions thoughtfully. Love him so much!!
Professor Hiscocks' lectures are engaging with plenty of crossfire debates among classmates. Expect readings like "The Bitter End" and Supreme Court briefs with questions for a comprehensive review of American government. You might even learn things you might have missed in high school civics class! Overall, this is a solid and interactive class.
Only two tests for whole semester. Both tests were all multiple choice and had over ten extra credit questions
If you're a T**** supporter, this professor is not for you! This guy is educated, which doesn't align with MAGA at all! There are some conservatives flaming him here, but I only absorbed pure fact from his lectures, and that may not suit you :)
The lectures were amazing and well directed. This professor is also not afraid to correct people that bring their biased opinions and disinformation into the classroom setting and he does so in a respectful manner. He is not afraid to be honest about his opinions during lecture, but will not grade you based on your political stance by any manner.
Super biased. Opinions you agree with ≠ the truth. You might think he's right because it aligns with your views, but it doesn't mean it's true.
Really enjoyed taking his classes, and lectures are fun, readings helps us a lot for also everyday lives.
Be sure to take notes and pay an attention to the every lectures he gives . There is extra credit in the midterm test and final so your efforts will be payed off if you do. It really helped me get a good grade in class , fortunately not a lot of homework at most he just gives you like some article to read over .
As a political science major, taking his class was one of my best decisions. His lectures are clear, organized, and engaging. The work he assigns you never feels out of place or like busy work. He's extremely knowledgeable, I can't stress enough how much his classes taught me. If you're interested in politics this is the professor for you!
