I had him for the summer. His midterm & final weren't that bad. However, the essay was a bit confusing but maybe it's because it was a 6 week course so everything was explained quickly. It was more of an interactive/group work class. Lots of reading but maybe it won't be so bad during a regular semester. Overall, he's a funny, nice guy (;
Easy teacher. However, except a lot of reading.
bad professor. he doesn't make things clearly
This Class was very enjoyable! I'm not a history major so this class was just for my GE. This class was very fun to take and Mr. Hunt is a very entertaining teacher that keeps your focus quite well. He plans out his class well and puts his own fun twist on things. Overall I'd give is class 5/5. If you actually do the work you'll enjoy this class.
This class was really easy to pass. We did a Map test, about 10 response assignments from lectures and videos, a midterm and final... at the beginning I thought he was kind of rude; not funny to me, but then you get to know him. He's a good professor
Prof. Hunt is an awesome professor! He's super funny and makes the class enjoyable! We hardly take any tests, only a Map test of the US (pretty self-explanatory), a Mid Term, and a Final. Both the Mid Term and Final are written (almost like essay format) based on the lecturereading but he gives you a study guide so it's not too bad. Take him!
His class is super easy if you read the book and participate. He's really chill and laidback and the only tests he gives are the midterm, final and an easy map test.
He cancels class a lot and lets us leave early most of the time. Not easily approachable. Relies heavily on the textbook. Disorganized and slightly unprofessional. His lectures are Ok, but boring. Youre better off just reading the book. Hes also quick to put students on blast. You must participate, or hell be on your case.
I was very impartial to this class. It had it's ups and downs, pros and cons. The professor does not explain things clearly of what is to be read and studied for when it comes to exams. However, he does rely heavy on the textbook for questions and readings so reading is a must. Just be ready, read and rely on solely your critical thinking skills.
He expects his students to fill in the blank as he is lecturing. He will spend 30 mins complaining and waiting for the students to answer his questions. He has terrible humor and talks down to students in order to establish that he is superior
If your someone who loves history take this class. Heck, i didnt even like history but i took it and it was worth it. He LOVES sports so he spends alot of time talking about his favorite teams. He gives a map test at the beg of semester, just get an A on it and get a CD on the other 2 tests and youll pass. Rarely any HW, maybe 3 times the semester
Great professor. It is absolutely mandatory to read the book and be prepared for class. Be ready to talk because he will literally yell at you if the class doesn't participate. Doesn't make lectures seem boring. Not many assignments but the ones given are very interesting. Test are easy as long as you read.
Professor hunt is always full of energy and makes class interesting. Provides no study guide for exams, therefore, attention in class and READ textbook is required! Besides textbook reading, assigns more reading assignments along with questions. Critical thinking skills are encouraged.
Really good professor. I am not a straight A student, and I got a B from him easily. (Just kinda bomb the midterm) He really make the lecture fun and easy to understand. Tip: whenever you take a note form his power point, after copying it down he will discuses those point more detail, so i suggest you write another detail notes while hes expalin
His class was super easy! He is really funny but he expects everyone to talk and participate. If you don't participate then he does get mad. The class is very easy if you read and study for the easy finals.
Hunt is hilarious, but can be really snarky - sometimes unnecessarily. There are weekly response assignments which are very easy, weekly quizzes on a TB chapter, a map test (which was actually very useful info to learn!), a midterm and a final. I really enjoyed the class, but if you want serious in depth history, I would probably take someone else.
By far the my favorite professor! Get ready to read, if you read and go to class then you'll pass! Study hard for the MAP test because it's a huge chunk of your grade. He's so adorable and funny too! He really cares about his students and is there if you ever need anything. Don't be scared to participate either!
took him for winter 6 weeks. so worth it bc he doesn't make u do the essay assignment. fair grader u need to show him u make effort to learned the material. Very funny and sarcastic. Expect group presentation if no one participates in lectures. We had LOTS of group work bc no one talked in my class. time goes by fast.
He messes around but he will make the point he is trying to get across in a funny manner in order to appeal to students and keep them awake. He knows some material can be boring and he tries to liven up the crowd before he dives head in with the facts. Hes a jolly old man that just wants you to stay off his lawn.
He is too sarcastic. It's so bad to the point where you don't know when he is being serious and joking. Some of them are obvious, but for a new college student some are confusing. He will put you on the spot if you annoy him. Just not professional.
If you have a sensitive sense of humor, don't take the class. He is pretty clear when giving instructions so pay attention, read, stay close with the syllabus and you will pass.
Nowhere near what I expected from reading these comments and from what people told me. We had not even gone over the Vietnam War, and that happened to be on the final. Takes advantage of the "As the professor, I have the right to modify this syllabus when needed." People with the book even did poorly, spend your time on another professor.
Okay, he's a funny and sarcastic guy I'll admit it, but I honestly wouldn't take his class again. I think there was one class session where he spent 20 minutes arguing about why students shouldn't use highlighters while doing homework. Not even kidding. He's too obnoxious to be taken serious as a professor. Smart and funny guy, but nope.
He hands out a study guide, and if you set aside time to go through every term on it, you will do well. In class be able to finish his sentences, for points in participation. Just read whatever he gives you (at least skim), and try to form an opinion of your own. If you can't do that, go to CrashCourse on YouTube.
This class was my coffee in the morning. It is very lively and Ryan is great guy. He is very smart and helpful. He really loves his students. I'll be brutally honest here though... If you're going to waste your time and money by taking the class without expecting to do anything except show up, stay away. If you're funny you'll have a good time.
By far one of my favorite prof. At first I thought he lived up to the negative comments on here, but after the second day, I realized how involved he actually gets the class in. Great method to keep students awake and interested. His analogies are key, and his strategy is efficient. He changed my perspective on history for sure. I highly recommend.
What makes Professor Hunt great is that he is young and he hasn't forgotten what it's like to be a student. Oh, and learn every single term in the study guide.
If you're only in school because your parents are forcing you to be there, Do not waste your time and take this class. If you are anxious to actually learn a thing or two... I highly recommend this professor. He understands how students learn, so its really a matter of how willing you are to learn. Lectures are never boring because of interaction.
I took Hunt's History 1 class during the Wintercession, and it was a really fun experience. He's a cool person, and truly understands the struggle of college students. He tries to make class as fun and interesting, while teaching the material pretty well. His teaching style breaks the monotony of regular classroom setting. Bernie Sanders and donuts
I would NOT take him at all. He doesn't even teach the class. He gave only a few lectures. You're just expected read the chapters, which are long, in the book on your own. He gives pop quizzes mostly when someone says, "I don't know," and see if you have been reading. There is midterm/final for tests. IN GENERAL, he's kind of cool, but sarcastic.
he's really nice and lets you know what you need to do to pass the class. I did a lot of reading to keep up in class which kind of sucked but I learned a lot. The bluebook part of the midterm/final was easy because he gave you a rough outline of what he wanted with each key term. I would take him again.
I don't understand why people complain about him. He expects that you come prepared to class as you should in all your other classes.
The only B I got in the semester. If you're taking the class, get ready to READ..... A LOT!!! Because Ryan Hunt does not teach.... all he does is read off notes that he brings to class with his powerpoint. Oh! and also be prepared to teach the class... We have a lot of activities where he makes YOU teach... so he doesn't have to.
Really bad professor, may as well take a student that's trying to be a professor. Quizzes are made minutes before or after midnight, lectures are awful, and does not teach. I mean, if you want a student-professor hybrid that does nothing and sits on his phone half the class, go for it. Even reading a lot won't help you pass.
This was an easy class as long as you show up and do what is expected of you. He has a really cool personality but hes kind of psychotic with trying to prepare you for university. If you're social you will love this class, i am not so i dreaded it but it was a fairly easy A.
Honestly the worst professor ever. The hardest class I've taken in my college career. DO NOT TAKE unless you do not care about your gpa at all. I took this class over the summer and dedicated my whole summer in teaching myself bc he sucks at teaching. I had to work really hard for my grade in this class bc he can't do his job as a teacher.
He seems distracted in his personal life. I would say he is a new teacher, who does not yet seem like he has a routine down. He even came to class with what looked like a black eye, and exhausted, then the next day emailed us at 2am saying class was cancelled. He seems like a nice enough guy, just not professional or passionate.
Hunt is one of the best professors ever. I love how we get to engage with our fellow classmates and have debates on the material.
He does not teach, you must read the whole book in order to pass. He is really sarcastic and if you don't mind being picked on all of the time then this is the class for you. I got perfect scores on the homework but because i am not a very well test taker my grade dropped drastically. Would not take him again.
He's an amazing professor. If you do the work, he'll notice. If you try hard and still don't succeed, talk to the professor and he will do his best to help you. I know I was on the verge of a B+, but talked to him about it a few week before the final and I passed with an A.
Defiantly the worst professor I have ever taken. He doesn't teach at all so you're left with reading the textbook. He also likes to pick on people. Like me he picked on me just because I asked him to scoot over a bit since he was blocking the projector and we can't see the quiz. And he blew up on me saying I was a horrible student and deserve an F
Professor hunt is a good professor. You definitely should read to be caught up in class, and if you have any issues he will definitely work something out and help you. He is an energetic character for sure and is funny. I honestly didn't read as we went along, but with his study guide and studying a couple days, the midterm/final weren't difficult
Funny teacher, he teaches through stories and by connecting with the class. Gives good power points and quizzes are off of powerpoint, lectures and reading but not that intense of reading. Very Do able and answers questions when asked.
Professor Hunt is a great guy who is passionate about history. Go to class. do the reading/assignments. and participate. You'll have fun.
Professor Hunt was a great teacher he tries to connect with the students by making jokes or making up nicknames. He's very passionate about history and will tell you stories. I showed up everyday to class because I thought his class was very entertaining always making me laugh. I actually learned in his class. Just do your part and read.
He does really want the class to be more involved in class participation.
Hands down one of the best professors at MTSAC. Lectures are straight forward and entertaining.
Took him for US History during the summer intersession. His lectures go off topic very often, material is not covered at the pace outlined in the syllabus. A good amount of reading is assigned, and his quizzes take from the book occasionally. There is a study guide for midterm/final so if you know all the terms in detail it's an easy A.
Not very focused talked way too much about his marriage and GOT goes off on tangents for like 20 minutes so in actuality you only really get like 40 minutes of lecture/class sarcastic and impatient self absorbed want to be a cool professor but doesn't pull it off . A waste of time don't take this class
Love how passionate he is
As passionate he talks about History he goes off topic WAY too much. Might as well just read the book and self-teach oneself. He picked on students for little things throughout the whole semester.
I'm currently taking him and he's funny he's got some jokes but tends to go off topic. we read a lot from the book including a response assignment. his quiz wasn't very hard just read and listen to lecture you'll be fine. MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR BOOKS HE WILL PICK ON YOU for the rest of the semester! just do your work its not really bad
Gets off topic TOO much, and WILL pick on you for the rest of the semester if you peeve him.
If you want to sit in a lecture for hours and hear about Prof. Hunt's life, take him. This class was more like his own personal history. I learned more about his personal life and experiences than I did about U.S history. And if you aren't listening to his "life lessons" he turns off the slides until you hear his life story. Hardly answers emails.
Amazing class. Just pay attention in his lectures and do the reading. You'll do great
I began this class very on edge right off the bat, with his strong personality. Not having any other choice with other available History 7 courses, I stayed in the class. I'm very glad I did. Great professor with a unique entertaining instruction style. You can definitely recognize his genuine love for teaching. Would highly recommend.
He's hilarious! Always looked forward to his funny stories in class. He made the subject interesting all the time as well as easier for us to understand. His quizzes and exams are pretty easy, just listen to his lectures.
I think overall, hes a pretty good professor he knows what hes teaching and does try to make it interesting but sometimes he can get distracted by trying to make the class interesting. Not a bad teacher just not the best for me.
Professor Hunt makes a usually boring and sleepy subject seems fun and exciting. He engages everyone to participate and makes sure you don't fall asleep and ensures you learn the most you can learn. He takes time to get to know his students and tries to help you pass and help you all he can. On another note, if he reads this bbq sauce is just sauce
The funniest professor I've ever had. Definitely easy A. Read the chapters and take the quiz online, do your response assignments the way he asks, it's really simple. He provides a study guide for the exams which are really helpful. He's mentioned that he reads his reviews on here so with that said, Hercules is the best Disney movie of all time.
. He is passionate about history. He is funny and loves to joke around in class. there is an online quiz and around 30 pages of reading every week. he gives a study guide that helps you get an A in the exam. His class requires work, but worth it. he gives up to three absences before he deduces from the grade.
Gets off topic way too often and literally makes students uncomfortable and hes extremely rude. Would never take him if you actually wanna learn something. Unless you wanna feel like your a worthless student do not take him, he left me thinking I didnt have the potential to be a better student, disrespectful and inappropriate professor.
Terrible learning experience. Picks on his students and makes most feel uncomfortable as well. Happy to know I wasn't the one that felt this way!
Ryan hunt is a great professor I went into that class disliking history and I left loving it. He is very halirious and makes his criteria very understanding super flexible I loved attending his class.
Hunts class is mostly readings and in class group discussion. Although he does not lecture throughout the whole class time he is always excited to answer any questions students may have, and he makes sure you understand before moving on. Just do the work, attend the classes, and use the study guide and you wont have to worry about not passing
Hes very funny and likes to make sure we get if you do all the work you will pass
Hes a great guy and deserves a better rating he may get off lectures but hes still the best and helps you relate it to things in this time and era instead of being all about the past
Hes funny. The comments are just sensitive. He does pick on people tho
He likes orange chicken lol
Professor Hunt definitely deserves a better rating. Out of all of my history teachers/professors in the past, I'd have to say I have enjoyed and learned the most in this class. Lectures are actually interesting and relatable. He genuinely cares for students and if you have a sense of humor, take him!
He is the definition of an online class, you pretty much teach the class to yourself. Everyday you work with a group and if youre late to class hell put you in other group. His work isnt bad just a lot of reading. You take an online quizzes for the chapters you do. You take midterm and a final. Debates are fun especially when you win!
Wish I took him for fall/spring instead of summer because I really enjoyed going to class so I'm going to miss it. Easy hw, midterm, and final. Try and read the book as much as you can. Debates were really fun. 100/10
Hunts class is super his class is easy if you do the work! Dont worry hes not a tough grader! The ONLY homework you get is when there is debate. Debates are fun, but not everyone has to speak. Ch quizzes are online super easy. His class work he gives is the study guide practically. 1 midterm 1 Final Hunt himself is loud sometimes gets off topic!
If you dont like to participate then dont take the class. expect to read, and participate. Do all the assignments and you will pass. quizzes are on canvas, and his conversations in class are very interesting. He is very fun, sarcastic and brutally honest. DONT BE LATE HE WILL CALL YOU OUT! and dont sit in the back.
Very great educator. He cares about you doing your best to succeed. Hi will bug you and pick on you if you are not trying but its all love. The lectures are slightly vaugue but what he is saying helps you understand the reading clearly. READ the chapters when they are assigned and you will do great !
Doesnt teach at all and expects you to learn everything on your own and grades hard. He is not lenient and does not check in on students especially since it is online.
Tough grader despite the pandemic. Youre basically teaching yourself everything and he takes forever to grade. Just do all the work in time and youll be okay.
I really don't recommend this professor. He will deduct a lot of points from you if you only have a format mistake (example you didn't put the number or etc) that is already 2 points deduction. He is boring and you won't learn anything from him. He gives us about 8 homeworks a week despite pandemic and he expects you to read 10-15 pages per HW.
Professor Hunt wants students to read about 2 chapters every week. There are weekly discussion questions, assignments, and quizzes related to the chapters. Midterm and Final and related to the weekly chapter quizzes and assignments, so make sure you study the questions. Lots of work to do, specially if taken in summer.
What it feels like taking this class.. No one: Professor Hunt: I don't give out busy work. However, each week you will read 5 chapters, you need to take the quiz, complete the lecture videos, and answer the discussion questions after each chapter. If you have questions, DON'T contact me. I can't give good feedback. You teach yourself, Good luck :)
He grades really hard and there is an overwhelming amount of work to do. In every chapter, there is a quiz and long discussion to do. He also takes points off for the smallest things, you have to follow the rubric EXACTLY. He will find the smallest thing to mark off. His tests are also very hard.
Winter session, 2- 3 discussion post each week, that consists of 6 questions, each questions having the maximum of 7 bullet points. Have to respond to 2 other students' posts and points taken off if you're trying to do the comments post in one day. Ridiculous, point taken off when you turn in work early. Follow the rubric but point still taken off
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Recommend to stay away. No feedback on assignments beside saying look at the rubric when we follow the rubric. That's why a rubric is there for a reason. But points still taken off. Discussion posts become an essay. Textbook all over the place, doesn't get to the event. Each quizzes 20 questions in 12 minutes.
The questions on the quizzes and tests are really confusing. A lot of the time there are multiple answers that could be right based on the reading but it is hard to know which one is the right one. He also does not provide any feedback on assignments after he grades them. Points are taken off if you post discussion replies on the same day.
There is A LOT of reading. Each week we read 2-3 chapters and each is about 30 pages long. He also grades extremely difficultly but doesn't explain why he takes points off. All he leaves in the comments is to refer to the rubric.
He is honestly the worst professor I've ever had. He grades extremely hard and will find any excuse to take points off. It literally doesn't matter if you follow the rubric because he will find a way to at least take 1 point off. His discussion rules are absurd and he doesn't provide any constructive feedback. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Marks off points if you respond to a classmates discussion questions on the last day to reply. Doesn't post lecture videos to help with some assignments. I was writing at least 700 words per discussion post 3 times a week just to get full credit on top of reading 3 chapters (about 30 pages each chapter) a week. Would not recommend this class.
He is very nit picky, for an entry level class he takes it way too seriously
solid class for online classes i just wish he would give feedback and have a more one on one basis with his students as long as you read and do the small homework assignments its easy. his hmw is pretty simple and small
Not recommend this professor since he is harsh on grading, even follow the rubric or making a tiny mistake would cost you lots of points. I rather recommend other history professors than him in general.
Professor Ryan Hunt is one of the most UNPROFESSIONAL professors I have ever dealt with! He is superbly lazy with his grading. He is also very biased and unjust with how he perceives his students and he could not take any negative feedback. I would avoid taking this Professor at all cost.
This course is not relatively hard. There is a lot of homework, however. There are discussion posts for each unit, and they require a lot of writing. As long as you follow his instructions and do the reading to get the correct answer, you'll be fine. He's not a super tough grader like others say. Just follow the guidelines!
Took as an 8-week class. Terrible pacing, 2 discussion boards per week ( at least ), and multiple quizzes. Discussions were atrocious, he grades harshly and makes you write well over 700 words per assignment. Very heavy on the reading, we went through 3-6 chapters a week. Don't take this class, save yourself the hassle.
Lecture and homework is heavy. Homework requires 250-words on discussion boards every week. Along with that, you need to respond to two students with 100-words after. Lots of writing, in my opinion. Overall, easy class to pass if you put the work into it.
Took as 8wk course. Easy class: 2 quizzes & discussions/week, except for midterm/final week, where there's 1 exam, quiz, & written assignment. Lots of writing, but follow the grading rubric, and you'll do fine. I did badly in the first few discussions (didn't read the grading rubric) and even missed a few discussions, so it's not hard to pass.
He is unwilling to work with you for any reason. My book arrived late and even though I let him know ahead of time, he did not allow me to complete the missed assignments. I missed the first week to week an a half and that dropped my grade from an A to C, due to the required textbook being an old outdated copy that was almost impossible to find.
He does office hours twice a week. The book was free online but he put the chapters in canvas so it was unnecessary to go to the website. He didn't have his lecture videos anymore which is disappointing because I found them helpful. On exams he may ask random knowledge questions. The only work you need to do is the discussion boards (250 words) & quiz.
There's enough evidence to prove multiple choice tests don't test for understanding, but he uses them on his midterm and final. The questions are nuanced and not designed to test understanding, but the ability to absorb trivia. His lack of attention to grammar, punctuation, and consistency of style in his questions leaves you second guessing.
Tough class with lots of writing, but worth taking if you're willing to put in the work. unstuck AI and ChatGPT were helpful for study prep. Just follow the grading rubric and you'll do fine.
