What a great instructor. As an older student with a young teacher, I didn't know what to think about him on my first night of class. I wondered what HE could teach ME! But he was great. Usually there's just a few people who actively participate in class, but in his everyone does. I highly recomment Mr. LaSalle!
I took this as an online course. He is a very nice guy and answers all questions you have. There is a lot of writing in this course, obviously, so it is not easy, but he doesn't grade very hard. You do have to drive to Reedley College twice for a face to face meeting, which I did not appreciate.
I took his summer Eng 1A online class. It was fairly easy, a lot of writing, very clear on what is due and when. I liked him, he is a good teacher. Note: I only used the book twice, it was $34 used.
really cool and laid back guy. explains everything well and actually takes pride in his work. highly recommended
Great teacher. Great style. Compassionate and understanding. He is able to build a rapport easily with his class. Highly recommend Mr. LaSalle
Easy going teacher, relaxed and understanding.
Laid back guy, easy and chill class. Lots of class discussions, harder essays then in english 1a but he guides you every step of the way. Good grader, very helpful. Best way to go for english 3.
Friendly, nice guy.
Very helpful teacher and very funny. Easy going and fun. Very nice and hot.
This class was useless and hard. He did not explain anything. He just said, Here is what you do. I did not like it at all. Hes not very helpful. I would suggest another instructor.
I enjoyed this class about as much as anyone who is not a writer could. Mr. LaSalle was very helpful and gave feedback rather quickly. He allowed for multiple rough drafts if time permitted. The only hard paper was on a piece called "Thought"- too open ended for me. Otherwise very clear on what he wanted.
I would not reccomend him because he did not explain his work properly. He just said do this! Thats it. And he is very picky.
There is not a lot of work, but he grades EXTREMELY hard. I am an A student and didn't get an A on ANY of his papers. This is my 3rd English course and the only class I didn't receie an A in. I don't know why anyone said said he was easy. He must have wrote those reviews himself...
He was delicious. I would take his class again just to stare at him. Other than that, the class was ridiculously easy. Seriously. SO. EASY.
He is a really great teacher. Helps as much as he can. Gives really good instructions.
I had Ryan LaSalle for a summer English 1A class. He gave very clear instructions for all of the writing assignments, along with notes. It's obvious he wants you to do well in his class! He got back to me quickly if I emailed a question, and even provided great notes when i emailed him rough drafts! A+ for Mr. LaSalle!
He was a real chill guy. Good looking too ;)
LaSalle is funny and easygoing. His tests are really easy and his classes are very interesting. I've been in 3 of his classes and I have a good grade in all of them. He's awesome!!!
Excellent teacher, took him online!!! And was extremely fun, and also essays were easier than what he teaches in class. Read the book here and there, just stay on top of the due dates. I got a B and was surprised. Best English teacher at Reedley hands down. Thanks
I don't like him all that much. He's pretty condescending.
Took online English 1A with this teacher, it was a good class. I definitely got something out of his class. He grades fair and also puts an explanation for the grade which helps you improve throughout the semester.
good teacher.
Never used the book. He took a month to grade papers. Grades harshly even on rough drafts. I didn't learn anything, and don't recommend him. Take the class if you want an easy C with little effort. Don't expect much higher.
LaSalle is a very laid back teacher, he's very nice and will help you as much as he can! I'm not a great writer so I was scared I was not going to pass his class after I received a "D" on my first paper. Go to his office and ask him for help, he will see how hard you're trying to get a good grade!
Clear with instructions, gave plenty of time to complete the papers. I honestly didn't spend too much time writing the what? 5 papers and I walked away with a high B. No discussion boards. Responds to emails promptly. Overall good teacher!
LaSalle is a chill and easy teacher. He's not a tough grader at all. I didn't give much effort to the English 1A class I had with him and I received a B. However, if you're taking him for film I suggest you review the textbook before the quizzes.
Also took him for Engl 1A. He is such an easy going guy and is interesting to listen to. He knows what he is talking about in his film classes and is very fair at grading.
Class atmosphere is very laid back for an English class. Fair grader and always willing to help. If you truthfully try you will easily pass his class. Overall had a great time, would highly recommend anyone to take LaSalle.
Very laid back and easy going. Read the chapters that he assigns in the text, and you'll pass the quizzes - no problem. Gives you the prompt for the essays way in advance. Great class and a great teacher. Would highly recommend anyone to take his Film and/or English classes.
No lie, but Mr. Lasalle is one of the BEST teachers at Reedley College . Great professor and writer.
Do not take his online class. Very unprofessional! He takes over 2 weeks to correct assignments or even reply to an email. Extremely tough grader. I had an extremely qualified English tutor help me with all my essays and still got below average grades. I regret taking his class.
Wasn't pleased with his online class. Would not recommend.
He's one of those teachers who actually loves what he teaches and brings that excitement into the class. Easy going and was always really helpful when I needed it most. You get what you give when it comes to grading.
LaSalle is a super easy going guy. As long as you do your work and read, the class is an easy A.
Mr. LaSalle really has to be the best English teacher at Reedley College. I took him for Film 1 and English 3 (online), and he was always very clear on what he wanted. One of the most laid back, easy going teachers I've ever had; he's quite frankly the reason why I'm majoring in English. Highly recommended.
I took his English 3 Honors class and it was pretty chill. His grading can be just a tad bit harsh. But for the most part he actually tells you exactly how to write an A paper in his class. Follow the prompts he gives you and you should be fine. On the downside, he doesn't give you the best feedback on your papers. Still a great teacher.
I took his online English 1A summer class. It was as expected for a 6 week course. keep up with the essays and you'll be fine. He gives great feedback and is very helpful. I really enjoyed his class and he is an amazing professor. I would gladly take his class again! I recommend you take him for English.
Mr. LaSalle is a great teacher. He's very clear in what he wants and is always there to help. Essays are an easy task if your thesis is CLEAR. Overall a good class. We watch a lot of films in his class.
Mr. LaSalle could do a better job with one-on-one communication with his students. His essay prompts said what he wanted to see written from his students, and the THESIS is the most essential part of the essay. Read the prompt clearly and attend classes in order to get a good grade.
For an online course, he was great. He is very clear with direction and his expectations. He gives great feedback and is very fair with assignments. On the plus side, the longest essay you will ever have to type is only five pages long.
The movies he showed were pretty cool I will admit BUT his grading was horrible he is not clear whatsoever and it's like he wants us to read his mind when it comes to writing papers. HOW DO YOU GET A D IN FILM?! Take another teacher he acts like his film class is English. Also he HATES when you're late and acts like a girl about it & locks the door
Mr. LaSalle is a fantastic instructor. I've taken him for four different classes: Film 1, English 3, 1B, and English 15F (Screenwriting). Take Mr. LaSallle if you can--his classes get filled FAST!
Mr. LaSalle is by far the best professor to take at Reedley College. He explains the prompts clearly and his prompts are very clear as well. If your thesis is clear, then you'll get an amazing grade on your essays. He also gives good feedback on your essays. Overall, an amazing professor to have in general.
Mr. LaSalle is an amazing professor. He teaches really good. Cares about his students and wants his whole class to succeed. Also, on the plus side, longest paper we wrote was 5 pages. You'll learn a lot in his class. Wish I was able to take him for Film this semester.
The tests for the movies were easy, you only need to study a little bit the day before. All the movies were really good. Oh and he's super good looking so it made it even more interesting haha!
The first assignment is a one page summary on an article he gives, followed by a two page response paper, a three page informal argument paper (of a topic of your choosing), a two and half page "advanced" argument paper, and a four to five page final paper on a current issue (also a topic of your choosing). Everything was pretty straightforward.
Pros: Great teacher! There are a lot of tests, but he prepares students for them. There are 2 papers and they count as the midterm and final. Cons: He said he would lock the door so late people could not get in, but never did. I found this annoying and distracting when students would walk in 30 min late. The class is only an hour and 15.
Great teacher, easy schedule nothing overwhelming. Great guy even though it was only online. Good feedback on essays, had a sense of progress as semester went on
Taken two of his classes and am already scheduled to be in another as well. Oops.. He's nice and gives great feedback. He has a lot of stories to tell as well, talented in English and Film!
Great teacher. I am now raking his film 1 class and really enjoy. This is the second class I have taken with him, the first was English 1. He gives great feedback amd cares about hi studnets
Take this teacher if you can. You wont regret it.
The literatures are really easy to read. His prompts are based on the reading their are about 4-5 essays. His prompts are not hard at all if you read the literature. Their is only ONE class presentation he literally puts you into groups. There is a lot of group work I highly recommend him. he gives good feedback in essays.
Very good teacher. Gives interesting lecture and is very kind to his students. I really liked most of the movies he showed us in class. Very easy class. Sometimes uses the textbook to go over some things. Just show up, do the work, study for tests and you'll do fine. Highly recommend his class if taking Film 1.
He's a great teach, great grading, easy to talk to about assignments. Dress comfortably for the class because the movies you watch are long and with the lights off it's very easy to fall asleep.
This class was surprisingly fun and so interesting! I am not a film or art type of student so this class was such a surprise! I would and am going to look into taking his class again. I highly reccomend!
I enjoyed Mr. LaSalle's English 1B class. He had us do a total of three essays, and gave us in-class time to revise them. Thesis statements are something that's very important to him. He gives good feedback on papers and is always willing to help.
Great teacher! I took his class online and we are assigned an essay every 2-3 weeks. He gives you a clear prompt for each one and answers questions quickly! We did use the textbook for a better understanding for our essays and the methods he required us to use. He also gives out great feedback and comments anywhere you missed points at.
Lasalle is a really good professor. I took his film 1 class. This is an easy class to pass, but you do have to show up. tests are based on the movies seen in class and terms in the book. He gets really invested in his lectures, he is very funny and super cute.
Super fun and easy class
i didn't even take his class but he is very easy on the eyes.
LaSalle was a real laid back and chill professor. His class did have a lot of reading and 3 essays. The essays were only like 2 pages so it wasn't bad at all. We didn't have hw everyday, but when we did it was just a single page of notes about what we read. Really easy class and nice professor so I would recommend him.
Fantastic teacher and would recommend him for any class he is teaching. Clear power points and tells you exactly what is going to be on the tests. His essays are easy just make them clear. You do need to be there cause he asks questions on what happened in the movie. Only flaw is he takes a while to grade essays so be prepared to wait a month.
Tells you exactly what is going to be on the test! Plays pretty good movies and you never have homework unless its to study for the test. Textbook is pretty cheap if you buy it used. Only complaint is that the volume of the films he plays is super loud.
He's a cool teacher. before exams, he always goes over materials and sometimes tells you some of the questions that will be on the exams. Just study what he tells you and pay attention to the movies we watch and you'll be fine. We watched movies every week.
Professor LaSalle is a great professor and he gives great feedback. He will critique and give you the grade you deserve. English isn't my favorite and surprisingly I passed. Essays are given with at last two-three weeks time frame. Text book is needed but I didn't really use it. I took this course online and it was a success.
I have to say, I was not into writing papers and reading but this class was actually really good. It was a summer class, so I expected a lot of writing. He always responds back to emails and questions. Good class. Wasn't a hard class. Yes he made you work for your grade. I actually loved this class!
He's no doubt one of the best and most approachable profs on campus. I really enjoyed his lectures and made me want to analyze and learn more about storytelling and cinematography. Also great taste in Movie Soundtracks! John Williams FTW! (Star Wars, Indiana Jones). Also got to watch classics like Alien and Contact as part of the class. GREAT guy!
Absolutely awesome instructor! Requires some reading and provides awesome films to watch and gives a whole other perspective of what to look for. Requires two 3-4 pages essays due. All other assignments are based off the textbook.
Mr. Lasalle class for English 1A was not so bad. I actually enjoyed it even when it was all online. Read his instructions and you will do great. When you have a question or concerns he is willing to help and when he grades your paper read his feedback! I didn't until the very end! Take his class, I recommend it!
Professor LaSalle was a great online teacher! He doesn't assign too much homework and if it seems hard he will tell you step by step how to do it. One of the best teachers i've had so far.
I have had LaSalle for a couple of my classes, and he is a great professor. He's very knowledgeable in all things Film, and he's a great teacher to every student. If you are deciding between him and anyone else: take him. You won't regret it.
Tough grader.
LaSalle was great! I've taken a few classes from him and he's really cool and really knowledgeable about film. I will definitely take one of his classes again if I have the chance. I do wish he would give more feedback on assignments though.
He was such an awesome professor! Really easy on grading. He tends to help when you have any questions about and assignment.
I am new to Reedley College and wanted to start off with English 1A during summer and I am very happy that I chose him as a teacher. He is a reasonable grader. You get what you deserve. He gives feedback and explains why you received what you did briefly. Summer classes are always gonna be cramped but he split the work well. I highly recommend him.
This course is not too difficult, as he does not assign very many assignments. However, he is a tough grader who had complex essay topics which were never clearly explained, and he would rarely post a lecture on what was expected. Personally, I feel as if I learned nothing from this course and would not recommend LaSalle or his course to anybody,
I had professor LaSalle for film 1. He's super chill and doesn't grade hard at all. The only writing assignments you'll do is a midterm and a final which are about 3 pages long. He gives clear instructions and quizzes/tests are easy as long you pay attention to the readings and films he shows. Definitely recommend!
Mr. LaSalle was a great professor! I always felt I was great at English related assignments but found, by taking this course, that I had a lot to learn. I'll be able to use his feedback in my professional life to stand out among the crowd. He answers his emails pretty quickly, sets specific expectations that he sticks to, and gives great feedback.
Mr. LaSalle is a pretty good teacher. There is a structure to the class that makes it easy to follow. Expectations with papers are clear so you know exactly what to do and gives out a lot of good information on how to write/structure your paper. I definitely recommend taking his class.
AMAZING PROFESSOR, VERY CARING AND UNDERSTANDING
Professor Lasalle is great! I had him for a couple of different classes. The classes are easy and enjoyable and he teaches really well. He made every lecture interesting and he's really clear about his expectations. 100% would recommend.
Had around 12 assignments total, 2 Essays, Attendance mandatory, gave 2 unexcused absences total for the semester. had around 6 exams and 4 chapter quizzes. Really easy, If you can't pass with an A or a B minimum I don't know what you're doing wrong. Showed 9 films throughout the class, Lectures were interesting. He's a chill and laidback guy.10/10
This professor is awesome, I would definitely recommended him as a professor. You watch pretty good movies. All the tests are online and easy. Make sure to buy his textbook for the definitions he gives you on the test, which the definitions are very easy to find.
i took his E1A class during the summer, very manageable workload (even went on vacation during it). 5 essays (summary, opinion, argument, adv. argument, & research-opinion) and 1 EASY quiz & db. he is extremely thorough & organized & gives helpful feedback. he even lets you email him rough drafts. overall a great professor--10/10 would recommend.
prof. lasalle is one of the best at RC. had him for 1A & now 3. he is very knowledgable, organized, & always willing to help students out (email, zoom, & in-person office hours). 5 essays; require thought but overall fairly easy. i will say, he reuses 2 essays from 1A in 3. grades reflect the rubric given. some quizzes & DBs too. love his classes.
Really fun and cool professor. Chooses amazing movies and I enjoyed every single one of them. Light homework with clear grading given ahead of time. Very had to not pass this course with an A if you just watch the movies. I recommend this professor, I am sure his other courses are great too.
I had Mr. LaSalle for three classes which were Film 1, Film 2A, and English 1A, and passed them all with A's. He's very understanding and helps you to be a better writer for your Essays not just for his classes but for scholarships, applying to universities, etc. I highly recommend him, and you truly will enjoy him.
Took his online English class, and it was good, graded by a few assignments. Gives good feedback, and there were weekly quizzes but if you read the textbook you will do fine. Papers are straight forward and he responds fast to any questions.
One of the best Film teachers I have ever taken at Reedley College. I have also taken ENGL-1A and FILM-2A with him and passed both with A's as well. He's not a hard teacher and he will work with you if you explain your suggestion. The only thing you will fail his classes is if you use AI for your assignments and you will be caught by him!
Go to class, watch a movie, read through the course book, which you need to buy, and do some quizzes. Not a difficult class, 1 midterm essay and 1 Final essay, not that hard, just do it on a movie you watched in class. Overall enjoyed the course, even missed 1/3 of the class day, but he also posts the movies for you to view from home.
Took his online course, had 5 essays and 1 final exam. Each essay covered a topic we covered in class. Not a difficult class, but it is English, so be prepared to write a lot and read a lot.
