So far the class itself is decent, but the prof can be a little unhelpful. It's best if you have already been introduced to communication assignments (lit. reviews, annotated bibs, journal reviews) and are very familiar with APA style if you take him. He will refer you to the manual without really helping you understand what you did wrong.
terrible teacher. did not help the class to understand important new concepts that heavily affected our grade. in order to do decent you must have some kind of background in Comm although you dont have to for this class. many people failed my calss, avoid this teacher if you want to effectively learn important concepts for the Communications degree
Wow, talk about so much detail! Most professors cover the main points but he likes to cover every excruciating detail about a topic and then you have to remember it. Totally confusing!
Ryan was great! He's a really personable guy, lots of fun. I don't know what's up with the other ratings because I found him to be really helpful. He works with you on your grade too...extra credit opportunities.
For an entry lvl communications class, this class was a difficult B. I did all my work, studied for tests, and prepared for my speeches and still wound up w/ a B. I do believe that there were maybe 1-2 people in the class of 20 that got an A. He is interesting but hard. Good luck.
The worst professor ever. Confusing, unprepared, changes his schedule on a whim - so forget about yours!! Also forget about having other classes - he expects 48 hours a day from you and you might get a B or C if your lucky. Does not allow time to absorb the material and is not helpful with questions or direction he expects. Avoid this professor!
Does not make his own powerpoints and does not explain them well. Questions on the test cover material that was not in the book, in the notes, or in class discussions. He is nice, but does not explain the material well. Class is hard
It is the middle of the semester, and I haven't learned anything. He does not explain concepts well. I have no communications background, so I am compeltely lost always. He is very interesting, and the class would be if I had any idea what he was talking about. This course does not have pre-reqs, but I would recommend some.
This professor is AWESOME. You should totally take his class...he's very sweet and helpful. VERY FUNNY, too...oh and totally good-looking! GO CHARGERS!
Very nice professor! Young, makes class exciting, and very funny. Very approachable if you need help or direction with your speeches. This has been one of my favorites that I've taken so far!
...oh...my...Lord...I can't stop the bleeding from this class. Unorganized; impromptu in assignments; ambiguous and unyieldingly difficult in assignment parameters; obstinate in not using the final exam period to help us timely do the multitude of assignments he throws at us. Sure, he's got spunk and energy, but that only goes so far...
SAVE YOURSELF AND DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN!!! He speaks unbelievably fast and gives TIME CONSUMING assignments. Really takes A LOT out of you so BEWARE IF YOU TAKE HIM! Yeah he's young and has energy (a little too much for my taste) but he will suck you dry! Oh and if you miss an assignment, HE WONT ACCEPT IT NO MATTER WHAT!!! EASY F PEOPLE!!!
Extrememly unorganized. I got an A in the class, but I jumped through hoops all semester for it. And I didn't learned anything doing it that way. He makes you work, but you get no personal satisfaction from it. Seeing him at his office hrs will help you, but don't expect this to be a fair class. Pretends to understand and relate to students.
He is very indecisive about deadlines, I think we have gone through 3 schedules and we are only half way through the semester. Dont expect him to have grades ready promptly. He's also VERY opinionated, and everything relates to a movie. Assigments are very VAGUE, you basically have to read his mind to get an A.
Ok, this guy is really funny and the class is fun, but the tests are killer. The reviews on average are between 13 and 18 pages. For every test I have a study group and we spend at least 12 hours straight on the review. Class average on tests are high 60's low 70's. You have to work really hard in this class and in most cases it doesn't pay off.
I worked my butt for all the tests and still got a B. I'm really serious about the work part, I literally spent over 18 hours studying for two of the four tests. You will learn a lot but it doesn't reflect in the grade at all. There are no exceptions when it comes to the test. Some of the stuff we talk about has nothing to do with the class.
CHEATED ME OUT OF A B!!!!! This professor is by far this worst professor i have had. spent half the class talking to "headphones" about movies and music, then got an attitude with the class when we asked questions regarding classwork. I cant say DO NOT TAKE him because he teaches half of the comm class, but seriously be ready for a long semester...
Way too much work!!!!!!!1The assignments are long and vague. His grading system is horrible. He is vague with everything, you are basically on your own.He needs to realize that we have more than his class to take.He also gets off topic a lot in class so u will get confused.Dont take him, it will only stress you out.
Teacher is very hard. Especially the exams! I had him for two years and he has improved since the first time I had him as a teacher. He tries to help the students understand the topics. What is good is that he's pretty lenient sometimes and usually pushes stuff later. His study guides are also a lot better than before. He's getting better!
Loved this professor, great sense of humor, will do anything needed to help, e-mails back very quick and easy on the eyes. Tests very hard must do review, attendance a must, clarity sometimes an issue. Ask questions, participate and study and you will do fine.
One of those professors that is a great person to hang out with, but not take a class with. His tests are 100% difficult; yes, he does give reviews but they do not help. He is slowly improving his teaching techniques but still needs a lot more. He teaches a lot of Comm courses so you probably will have to take him. Open communication is a must...
professor mcpherson is one of those people that is super smart, but he doesn't know how to translate it into common english. study a lot, do the test reviews, and ask him questions. he may not answer it directly, but through his own logic, it makes sense.
Nice guy! he is very random and he talks really fast therefore you have to develop decoding abilities but overall if you go to class and take notes you are good!
He is energetic, passionate, and motivated to help students.
He Teaches this class like a professional speech class when really it is just required for business students. i learned a lot. tests were difficult. not always clear on the main points, lots of information. not much warning about upcoming tests and projects. you have to put in a lot of work outside class. hard to make an a.
Took him for two classes. He's a great guy to chat with and very friendly and personable but the classes themselves were pretty challenging and the requirements nebulous at times. Recommended if you want a challenge. Otherwise, avoid but meet the guy in person. He's great.
Talks fast, always says "we'll talk about that later" and it dosent happen. You will NEVER use your book. Study ALOT, test are really hard, but if you study you can pass. Do well on papers, he tells you what exactly needs to be on them. Papers help boost grade. He can be very rude, just blow him off. Dont miss class.
This guy is fun. He is really happy for no reason and seems to really like his students. He is a stickler about attendance and tardiness. LEARN APA! He makes things really complicated that are usually really easy. It's amazing how much water he can down during one class period. Easy to talk to but isn't very helpful. Show up and you'll pass.
Hardest prof I've ever had. Brags about his experience but not a great teacher. Says he wants us to learn this stuff, but you end up spending so much time just to meet requirements, there's no time for learning. Expects you to read everything he lists on webct, but it's all random and you can't find anything. Don't be late or absent EVER.Great guy.
His class was tough. I worked really hard for my grade and I did get an A. His test were hard though and reqrd you to study alot frm notes! Class was always fun and intresting. I really did learn alot from him and the class. Overall I am glad that I took him and I wld recommend him for others if you really are intrstd in comm.
I was worried to take him b/c everyone said he was hard. He is not that hard if you just go to class b/c he knows if you don't. His reviews have everything that will be on test.He can talk fast and drag on and on about a topic when it is unnecessary. Takes off points for papers not being in correct format. See him to check if paper is right format
This instructor is really hung up on irrelevant topics. He is not interested in making you learn something for long term use. Its more like know everything becautse he has no idea what will be on his own exam. He grades strangely too. I am a strong writer and he criticized me pretty hard. He likes movies and that is all you will learn about.
Too tough for an intro class. There are two tests. And important assignments inbetween. I suggest printing the test review and completing it as you learn the info bc its about 5 pages of solid material that is ALL on the test. fun class, interesting personality, but tough in the end.
I liked his class. The class is challenging at first, but he works really hard to make sure that you are getting it. It isn't really an "intro" class- which he was straightforward about from the start. You can tell he is happy teaching. Go to class, pay attention, talk to him, check paper format, and you will do well. I wish he taught more classes.
He was suppose to be easier than my other comm classes but it turns out, this class has been the hardest. His teaching styles are all over the place and if you are just 3 min late he takes off a certain % away from a test grade. I would take him again only if you are repeating and already understand what's going on. He is very outgoing but it doesn
He is very hard
Takes major points off tests if you miss even one day or are late- ever...even though he's late quite a bit. If you meet him for help- don't expect any.
I would never take this professor again. His assignments although somewhat easy have nothing to do with the class. There is A LOT of group work. The tests are ridiculously hard. Also, he doesn't teach the class...the students teach themselves.
He is an enthusiastic teacher. It makes it more fun to go to class. I liked him and his class. You can tell he loves his classes. You will have to study in this class, but he is really clear about everything. His attendance and late policies are a little strict. He is much more caring about people than his policies suggest. Great guy. Great class.
McPherson is a great guy. But his teaching methods are unorganized. Lectures are pointless and RARE. He takes attendance down to the second. If you have 5 absences,he drops your grade a letter. 2 MAJOR group projects. The students in class basically teach material. Pop Quizzes are very important, the tests are extremely hard and there are 2 papers.
Great professor. I loved his class and found it very interesting and easy to get involved. He gets side tracked easily though..especially on movies. He has a very strict attendance and tardy policy. His test are hard but if you study for it and do the review you will be fine. You do not need to buy the book for this class
LOVED THIS CLASS! He is a great professor and makes class entertaining and enjoyable. NO FINAL and only 2 exams. Exams are hard but study and do the review and you will be fine! Must attend and dont be tardy and have to read the book he asks a lot of questions in class about the reading. Does have powerpoint slides
He means well, but just doesn't know how to teach. If you can teach yourself and don't mind hard work, it is okay.
I had an A on everything I did except one test, I had a C even after studying for several hours. I got a B in the class even after doing 8 pages of extra credit. Besides a ridiculous grading policy, he is a terrible teacher - if you want to learn take someone else.
Very unclear when it comes to explaining concepts, tests are extremely difficult, if you take his class plan on teaching yourself, cannot miss class because his attendance policy is really strict
Attendance is mandatory, but it's pointless. Talked about nothing that is on the test in the classroom. Exams are EXACTLY like the review just with MC so do that! Cookie cutter outline for speeches. He told me I had a B even tho I did way less than other people and on my transcript he gave me an A. I think he favors girls. I got my A but bad class
If you don't like group work, you probably won't like this class. It is easy though. As long as you study the online quizzes, outline, and read the chapters for the book, you'll do well on the 2 tests. Show up to class, (he gives pop quizzes and activities), do well with your group, and you can get an A.
Attendance is mandatory, students teach each other, ambiguous grader, the test is the review (literally), and you will be in group work all semester. Don't take this class if you can't constantly meet with your group. Too many little assignments & pop quizzes.
McPherson is a good guy. At first he encourages slackers to drop his class because it's def not a breeze. You have to work hard for your grade. He gives extra credit opportunies and is willing to help you out with your concerns. Only thing I didn't like were the group projects because you had to do a lot of meeting outside of class.
As long as you actually do the work, you get an A. It's pretty simple. The tests are straight from the review and the review is straight from the lecture slides. He hands you everything you need to succeed on a silver platter, all you have to do is show up and pay attention. He offers tons of extra credit. Only downside is there is group work.
Enjoyed this class! Reviews were were exactly like the tests. He acts like he is hard but I think he was very fair in grading of speeches- and he explained everything really clearly. He had a lot of online stuff that was really helpful. Even though his policies are strict, he is really understanding. I would take him again! Great guy!
if you go in to ask him a question all he really does is repeat the question and ask you.. so he doesnt really help you out on that part. there really is no point in going to class since he already puts up everything he talks about online for you to go see but its mandatory to show up. yeah so basically its do the work yourself. take someone easy.
He is interesting..at first. He is so sarcastic and it's funny, but he is just one that takes it too far. He is a jerk. And makes the class way harder than it needs to be. Seriously. It's an intro class not a major course. I guess he doesn't realize that. You pretty much have to teach yourself.
A good professor. It was a little chaotic in the beginning of the semester because it was a hybrid class and we only met on tuesdays, but once you get the hang of things it gets better. if you have any questions he is always available. He response to emails very quickly. Read all the chapters and notes and you should do fine on the tests.
Class was scattered, and instructions sometimes unclear. BB not organized very well. He was nice and fun but his teaching style was too unstructured.
Wow this class was terrible!!! He is so unorganized and makes everything more confusing/difficult than it really is. Tons of group work and he himself doesn't teach much then test time comes & it's so hard. I would suggest staying away, I dropped & re took the class with another professor & learned so much more as well as made. Good grade.
I took him for summer 1 and apparently it was easier than his fall classes. It was stressful in the beginning, but towards the end of the session we finally understood his teaching skills. I got a B and that was with bombing the first test but doing extra credit and getting a B on the second test. LOTS of group work! Overall, he was a good guy.
He wasn't as bad as everyone made him seem. I ended up making a B as well. I failed the first exam and did well on the second. You think he's kind of crazy at first but then once you finally get to understand the way he teaches, it finally gets a little easier. He's a pretty cool teacher. definitely take him for summer, its more laid back.
Run away! He gives way too much work. I didn't learn anything. This class is so overwhelming especially if you have 4 other classes and work. There is A LOT of group work and everything is unorganized. He is a nice and funny guy, but I would rather have a good professor than a nice guy. I heard his summer class is easier. Pfft doubt it.
Through the semester he gave an overwhelming amount of group work and individual work. I ended up with a high C in the end of things but I worked harder than "C" work and put most of my focus on this class and still didn't get what I wanted. You basically teach yourself everything in this class and his class structure is extremely unorganized.
He Is by far the hardest teacher i have ever had. he gives insurmountable amounts of group and individual work. everything you do in his class is completely useless, and every instruction given is the most vague set of instructions. STAY AWAY!!!
STAY AWAY! He has a bad grading scale and never lectures. Students run the class, but he gives no feedback to their "lectures". 1 person got an A out of 30+ students. He is not clear and his tests were not over material covered in test reviews. Weekly discussion postings were easy the rest was worthless. Worst "professor" I've ever taken.
He's a likeable guy which makes this hard for me to negatively review him. He doesn't have much of an idea of when assignments are due, but is approachable for questions. Assigns a ridiculous amount of frivolous work which doesn't end up being graded or even noticed. You're expected to prepare two presentations per class that are never even given.
Awful. Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had. Like others have said he's a likable guy but has absolutely no teaching skills at all. The students do indeed "teach themselves". I highly recommend not taking McPherson. Thankfully I dropped before my GPA took a hit.
Avoid this professor at all costs. He will ruin your semester and your GPA. He is extremely ambiguous, constantly changes things to the point where he doesn't even know what or when something is due. Every class consists of about 20 minutes of questions because no one ever knows whats going on. And he somehow thinks that's "the best way to learn"
If you are taking this class, it is most likely because you waited until the last minute. Just stay away if you can. You will not get a good grade. Just… stay away. Tedious work, huge workload, everything you submit is graded with no reasoning. Everyone gets an 90 on the projects, but quizzes and tests determine your grade. Take someone else.
Ryan was a really cool professor. His course seemed a bit daunting at first, especially since it was my first hybrid class. Once classes started though, he proved to be really smart and easy going. He grades fairly, and adjusts to the needs of the students to help make things clearer. Just read and do your work, and the class will be a breeze.
Very easy class if you show up and actually try unlike most students. You only give 3 5min speeches and take 1 test. Only outside homework is to answer 4 questions at the end of 10 different chapters (easy stuff). He loves teaching and is an easy teacher, i'd recommend him to anyone.
This professor seemed hard at first but there was only 3 exams (very easy with study guides), quizzes (answers online), a group presentation, and an individual presentation. Easy class but you so have to spend time preparing for exams and presentation. Very helpful professor!
Took for both Foundations and Theory. Class is very confusing at first but gets more clear and simple as the semester progresses. You will need to do group work read and make sure you ask questions or else you''ll stress yourself out in what should be a relatively easy class.
This professor has to be the rudest I've ever encountered. There was no teaching from him. Students present the chapters each week in a group & individual presentation setting. Those are your two major grades and if you mess up there is no leeway. I would steer clear of McPherson at all possible costs
Awesome professor! Was there every step of the way and gave updates consistently. Confusing expectations in the beginning, but it does get easier!
hell no never again!! completely unnecessary with the assignments he gives only take him if you have to, the other professors are way easier
Don't make the same mistake and take his class. Not good lecturer and really bad exams. not very hard homework, but they are not going to help you in the exams. He tend to choose the least expected materials to be exams questions. The exams are very hard and most of them are As and Ds, so there is 50% chance you will do bad. No curve.
STAY AWAY!! Horrible teacher! He doesn't even teach. He makes the students give group presentations on every chapter, so the students are basically teaching the course. He gives quizzes almost every class period. And test are difficult. Makes you read at least 4 chapters every week plus additional bb readings!! DO NOT TAKE
The worst. I am an A student, went to every single class, paid attention, and I still had no idea what was going on half the time. He is not clear at all and expects you to read his mind. Hard grader, I thought I did well and got B's on all speeches. Group project is way too much, literally a marketing project. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Class is not hard however, the professor gives vague instructions. Requires us to have certain content in our speeches but doesn't tell us where to find the content. Do not buy the book we only used it one time through out the semester. Has creditno credit assignments but doesn't tell you that are. He thinks he's a great professor but he's not.
I attended every class and was still so so confused. There was hardly any clarification, even when sought. Answers to questions were very round about and unclear. Every classmate I consulted with said the same. By the grace of God I received an A, but I think I just give good speeches (good enough anyways). It was a hybrid course, beware
Very outgoing personality. Knows his stuff. I learned more about the different areas within communication studies.
Absolute failure of a professor. Extremely vague in his instruction, needlessly difficult and a tough grader in his assignments, expects you to read his mind (as others have observed) and comes within inches of failing you when you can't. Passive-aggressive when students come to him for help, and an otherwise terrible communicator. STAY AWAY.
Instructions were very vague, he made a lot of typos that were critical (e.g. due date is 11:59pm instead of 11:59am). He didn't give an actual schedule of due dates until a few weeks in. Very vague, quizzes and test were timed with very little time and quizzes are "select all that apply" format, making them impossible to pass.
Take his class online It is much easier than taking in-class or hybrid courses. You will get A's on quizzes if you have the outline. It is literally word for word. Just do your modules, responses, and videos and you will be fine. Tests are not hard. His reviews are extremely helpful. I personally did not prefer his in-class courses, he was vague.
His online classes are the best. He gives you detailed instructions on everything and constantly sends reminders on when stuff is due. He is always quick to respond to emails and help and answer any questions you have. You do have to read and look at his modules to understand and do well on his tests/quizzes but its never anything difficult.
If you're a Com major who is even sightly competent, this class is an easy A. I am currently taking a different online course with McPherson this semester and the structure is exactly the same. In the beginning, he gives way too much info and you may feel overwhelmed, but once you understand when things are due it's a breeze!
overall this online class was not challenging, but a lot of work is put into the class. He responds to emails fairly quick. Easy grader as long as you try on your assignments. I recommend taking him for online language and theory. Glad I took this class online.
At first it seems like its crazy hard and too much work but when you get used to it it's so easy! He gives you everything you need to answer the quizzes and the tests without a problem. EASY A honestly, just apply yourself when there is something due and it's really not that difficult.
I had this professor for Persuasion and Com Theory. They were both internet classes. He was very specific about what he wanted and when it was due. He, also allowed you to turn in work late for "considered" credit. If you do the work that is required weekly, you will pass with an A. He is also very good at communicating and reminding.
Took McPherson for COM 3023 and it was so easy. He gives you a week or so to complete each set of assignments and as long as you get them done he gives you full credit or close to full credit. The first half of the class quizzes were all "select all that apply" type questions but get better after that. The work is easy and everyone should get an A
I took his course during the summer and it was super easy. He gives weekly assignments. He gives opportunity for extra credit. If you ever run into a problem or forget to turn something in on time he's more than willing to help you out. Read the chapters, do your work and you'll get an easy A.
At first I was worried about this class because his syllabus is so detailed but honestly i'm glad i stuck with it! Ryan is understanding and a great teacher. Keep up with the syllabus and you'll do just fine! highly recommend
Dont even think about it. Hes ridiculous and a horrible teacher. The course has so much weekly work and if you work even part time you wont be able to keep up.
Took this class online. This class may seem overwhelming with the first assignment being a video. Read the chapters and answer the questions at the end. If you complete all your work the way that he wants you will get an A.
Took him online for persuasion! Easy A! If you download or printout his study guide it will give you all the answers for the quizzes and exams. He is very understanding and will do whatever possible to work with you! If you make less than a C you either missed assignments alot or slacked.
This professor has been the worst professor that I have taken to date. His design of the assignment portal (blackboard) was the most confusing, his quizzes were multiple selections even with only one right answer (impossible to make a 100). there are 3 presentation videos that needed to be uploaded to youtube, outlined and have subtitles added.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! The coursework will seem like a lot at first but you get into the rhythm of when stuff is due, etc. It's super easy to get ahead on the discussions, quizzes, presentations! No book is needed it's all in the modules, quizzes aren't difficult and are mostly word for word from the text
I took him for online. He gives a very detailed syllabus but its very helpful. You mainly have to respond to all your peer reviews in more 150 words. videos are needed for this class and you will have to post on you tube to receive credit. Very fun, exciting and really good if you are will to put in the work. Overall, great class
I took this concurrently with another of McPherson's classes. The structure for both classes were exactly the same and very time consuming. This prof. expects you to read very lengthy assignments each week, do videos, answer questions, and do peer critiques weekly. If you are thinking about doing 2 of his courses at the same time, don't!
I don't know why this professor has such a low rating!! I've taken him for 5 online classes and all are constructed the same: short responses, peer reviews, quizzes, 2 videos, and tests. It might seem like a lot at first but it's super easy to get ahead in the course and all the answers are straight from the text, you don't need to buy any books!
He deserves a 5.0 on here and I'm confused why he has such low rating. This professor is so helpful and caring. One thing that sets professors apart from the rest is when you can tell they love what they teach, and professor McPherson is a prime example of that. You do need to read a decent amount, but all the information is fun and interactive.
I have no idea why Professor McPherson has a low rating! He is a great professor! Exactly what you expect from a professor. Professional, friendly and helpful. I took him for Intro to Mass Communications and it definitel is a class that you have to work for. Group projects and many individual assignment but they all go well if you put in the work.
was very worried about taking McPherson's class b/c he had a low rating on here but once we started those fears went away. GREAT professor. He made the GroupMe himself, made him accessible 24/7 for simple questions which was very convenient. 1 big group project, difficult for an online class, but have all semester to do it. 12 - 6 question quizzes.
We had a groupme and the professor answered everyone's questions. He's super nice too, read the summaries and you'll do good on the quizzes. There's a quiz every week but they aren't hard, and you get 3 attempts. There is 2 exams and no final, and a group project. I loved taking this class and I actually learned, 10/10
This professor was very active and available to students 24/7! However, make sure to go by the rubric he gives cause he REALLY grades by that, you'll get points off if not. We had 2 exams, 2 self video projects, and one group video project. Weekly quizzes, but you can do all before the due date. The GroupMe was created by him and was reachable!
I really admire how much effort & time this professor puts into his class/work. He is very passionate about his job and it shows through the assignments/ modules. Probably one of the best professors I have ever had, he is very accessible & responds really fast to any questions or concerns. I 100% reccomend taking one of his classes! he's awesome!
The text book he gives us thats suppose to help with the quiz is trash. The answers to the quizzes aren't even remotely close to what they even talk about in the textbook.
When I say this is by far my favorite professor Ive ever had, I mean it. Ive taken him two semesters in a row and both times I have nothing but positive feedback. With the pandemic going on professors have seem to have forgotten that people go through things. But Professor McPherson is one of the few professors that truly cares and works with you.
He was always available for our small online class. Class is divided between individual test, quizzes, discussions on one side. The other side was a big group project which was a major grade. This was done zoom. It was actually kind of fun talking to people face to face. Its not hard work but it is work. Hes a good guy who cares. Take his class.
Always understanding!
gives an insane workload
This class is the "fun elective". I haven't learned a single thing about persuasion. This seems to be an advertising class more than a persuasion class. The only good thing about the professor is that he's very easy to reach and replies fast, but other than that this class is a burden. Instructions are confusing, and the group project is difficult.
Class itself is easy. The group projects on what was required was very complicated. Instructions felt vague and it was confusing on what was required to be done. Super tech with Adobe products so if you havent used Adobe, start watching tutorials because projects will require to have Adobe software to be used, and it can get super frustrating
Online course that has more group stuff than an ordinary class. Assignment pages are vague and he overloads with adobe pages and long emails. He is quick to respond and sends reminders. He’s a great speaker, so I wonder why he doesn’t do video instructions.
Took 2 classes of his, and they were easy. As long as you try you will be good. I got lazy towards to end, I would have gotten an A. This class did have a lot of advertisements within it.
I have taken this professor for multiple classes and I have never gotten anything less than an A. I have no idea how people are failing his classes. Just keep up with the work and you'll be okay. The quizzes and exams are easy, the group projects are the only challenging thing about the class. His instructions are always clear & he's available 24/7
Was absolutely wonderful! Clear outlines and thoroughly enjoyed the course
I've taken this professor for two courses now, and I can say he has given me a headache both times. The work each week is so tedious and for big projects he does a terrible job at explaining instructions. He makes you figure out how to complete the work by requiring you to watch several "how to" videos and you'll still end up confused.
McPherson was a great professor. He was easily accessible outside of class, and is very accommodating to students needs. There was a lot of work, it was more tedious than hard.
I enrolled in Com 3523 and dropped it the second day of the semester. Professor MchPherson overcomplicates things and he has a video for every single thing. I knew I wasnt going to like his class, so I dropped it. He talks too much is not good at explaining information in his videos.
His class was fairly easy of you do the work. He we a bit confusing in the beginning when trying to explain his project but once you get it, it is not too bad. He provides the book so you do not have to buy the book, tests are open book. Perusal is an easy project each week. Overall he is a fair and good teacher I would recommend his classes.
Prof McPherson is one of the best in the department. His instructions can be confusing, but he is very helpful. He provides videos and webpages breaking down the projects well. He's not a tough grader, every assignment is easy. You can easily make a high A in his class. Weekly reading and quizzes, and a semester long project.
McPherson grades holistically, you get useful feedback on every assignment. The material learned isn't the easiest, but he helps out a lot and offers lots of help outside of class/work hours. Do the work and you will make a good grade
It is a lot of tedious repetitive work
I have had this professor for another class and I took him again. This class was a little more work but he is great. Grading instructions were clear and he was fast to respond and helpful when I messaged him. I feel like I can actually use this stuff when I graduate. I hope to take him again.
Great prof and class. Clear instructions and accessible. Major PR projects took some time to do. But we had only 2. Liked his weekly announcement thing with clear reminders. Went to his office hours once and he was a really nice guy.
The reflections were helpful but that would be the only thing I would change. Great class. Like the topics each week. Helpful and nice guy.
He is the worst professor! He gives way too much homework and expects way too much. He is accessible but complicates everything. His assignments are over-complicated for no reason at all. Do not take his class. Unless you like doing extra work.
His assignments take quite a while to complete and Adobe slides can be A LOT and sometimes make things more confusing, but he is always available to help further explain on zoom calls. Overall a great professor and class, just tiime consuming assigments.
I highly recommend taking COM 4813. I had no idea the class was basically a Podcasting class, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised at how much fun I had while doing the assignments! He didn't require a textbook, just online readings that he provided, and he was accessible outside of class. Super nice guy, and you can tell he genuinely cares!
One of the best professors here! Wish I could take more classes with him.
Great professor. He is very tech savvy and easy to get a hold of. He truly loves teaching and gives an overwhelming amount of information to help the students.
Professor is great - clear instructions and helpful feedback. The work can be tedious, but using unstuck AI for prep makes it manageable. Would take again.
This class was super fun, just very heavy on assignments. He took the time to check in on students and give good feedback. If you take this class, just make sure to be organized with your time! If you submit assignments and show effort, you will do great!
I absolutely loathed this class. This professor was extremely unhelpful and did not actually prepare us for how to make a PR IMC plan. I was consistently confused about what he expected of us. He required interviews with other students in an asynchronous class. Not to mention, there were 5-6 assignments due in the first week.
