do the hw and really study for the tests. also be prepared for pop quizzes in beginning of class sometimes. He gives amazing lectures! He really tries to be creative and helpful
Great Calc professor. Very organized, clear lectures, and he lets you have a notecard for exams. The group quizzes before the exams definitely help. Fun environment to be in: if your phone goes off in class, you have to bring snacks the next class day.
Prof. Moore has detailed lectures, but he can go through them without much explanation, raise your hand in class if you have a question or you'll get lost. MyMathLab is required, he gives pop quizzes on HW questions in the beginning of class sometimes so don't be late! Can give off a rude attitude, and not lenient. ALL TESTS BASED OFF GROUP QUIZZES
Prof. Moore's teaching style is different & not always clear. Moves quickly through concepts, doesn't allow much time to solve problem on board & can be short in response if you don't get it. First class I've ever been too intimidated to ask a Q. Covers chapters out of order for no apparent reason & gives lots of extra busy work beyond HW.
Great calc professor
Very clear and love math. I would take him again!
Definitely recommend this professor! His assignment are fair and if you do you homework the exams are not easy but pretty much fair...
this is a great calc teacher, he drops one project, one homework, one quiz on which you got the low score, plus you can retake one exam at the end of the semester which is the same exact one you took before with the same numbers the exam might be a lil tricky but that's calculus anyway I would recommend him!
So far the best calc1 proffessor at miramar. I would recommend him to anyone. Moore loves math and has an interesting way to make his lecture more fun
He is horrible. Doesn't know how to teach. Makes fun of students for struggling. Not helpful at all. Don't u dare ask a question . He will not help u. He is a professor that will make u get scared of asking a question. He needs a long way to know how to teach properly.
New calc professor but willing to give enough practice example for you to understand the concept. Make sure you stay after class if you need some more explanations...
Doesn't answer questions. no explanation
He focuses on your effort. If you put the effort into the class... You will get a good grade. He is clear, provides helpful examples, very informative, incredible attitude and makes class worth it.
He still needs some more experience but try his best to explain the material. The take home exam an the actual exam might seem challenging but he gives you a lot of opportunities to high up your grades. Anyways, calc is not expected to be a piece of cake.
Timed tests. After the test, starts a new lesson. I really didn't like the style of his teaching. If you ask him a question he will leave you without an answer.
He's really bad at teaching Calculus; asking questions will get you with a "well you're on the right track" but no actual directions, he's vague and bad at explaining his steps. He expects you to know a lot of things that you learned way back and does not review or remind you specifically what you might need. Take Shayne Vargo instead he's A+++.
Had as a Calc 2 sub. Perfect board work and lecture, really knows how to work the students (draws you in). He's a genuine good will hunting genius, Mat Damon clone, with a fantastic attitude. After only one lecture I felt like a pro at Polar Coordinate Integration. Clear, concise, with fantastic energy. Really wish I could take him for Calc 3. (
Mr. Moore is very detail oriented. His lectures were clear and very easy to learn. I really enjoy his hands on teaching, he is really good with going over lectures until the students understand. He applies everything we learn to real life scenarios to make them more relatable. Great professor! Can't wait to take him for 46
Mr. Moore was very clear and concise and would answer questions. He enabled you to work in groups and provide repetition so that you were sure that you got the material. He also allowed for extra credit.
Lots of quizzes, but theyre group quizzes. Easy to follow and explains things thoroughly. Loved the class
Moore has been my favorite professor to date. He really shows that he cares about you in the class, if you have a question or are confused, don't be afraid to ask him! As long as you try, do the homework, pay attention you will succeed. He is funny and lectures are extremely helpful (and not boring, which is a plus).
Good lecturer, I always found them pretty interesting. Sometimes he isn't clear on things and doesn't know how to answer some questions. Other than that I would highly recommend him. He makes his tests pretty simple, and almost exactly like quiz/homework questions so if you know how to do those problems you should be fine.
Moore is such a greater lecturer for differential equations. The class is pretty tough, and for me, required the biggest time commitment out of any of the "upper level" math classes in SDCCD. The homework is very long because of the nature of the problems (intense algebra). However, Moore made the concepts as simple as possible and easy to digest.
Lectures are very easy to take notes off of. LOTS of HW, which I think is the biggest turnoff. But doing them will help you learn. According the testing distributions he gives out after each test, around 30-50% fail his tests (below 70%), but your lowest (out of 3 test) gets replaced. 3 take-home exams (you should get As on). Overall, great prof.
If you have a life outside of school I would not suggest taking his class. He relies heavily on homework. If you are a full time student while paying for school with a job then good luck finding time to complete all the homework he assigns. Terrible teacher in my mind, not all kids learn from doing hundreds of pages of homework.
He is heavy on homework that is never gone over during class. He never gives out test reviews or even review before the day of the test. The homework given to us is supposed to be the test review. Lectures are heavy that does not go over the subject clearly such as he only goes over few examples of a certain equation but ignores other examples.
worst professor i have ever taken before. i don't recommend him at all.. too many unnecessary homework problems. uncleared lecture.
The lectures make this class impossible. Hard to connect what hes trying to say to whats actually being done.
Good teaching, looking good
Get ready to teach yourself. Instead of properly teaching, showing the steps it takes to complete the problem, he expects you to already know "how he got there." (Skips steps) No review before exams and relies on the hw he assigns to teach us rather than him doing the teaching. Hates answering questions. Never goes over the hw. Will not take again
Hw due every week, pop quizzes on Thurs. Participation based on answering equations on white board. Hard to accomplish when other students take opportunities just bc they wanna answer on board. 1 extra cred opp. Hw is assigned to help in understanding formulas & there is alot to memorize. Miss 1 quiz or hw & better pray you ace the exams to pass
Lectures are really heavy a lot of formulas to cover and he expects you to memorize them because he doesnt put them on the test. To much information on lectures and when it comes to homework he will never go over any of it. The worst math professor I have taken yet. If your good at math and can keep up a very fast pace this class might work for you
Great lectures. Best handwriting and presentation out of any math course I've had, probably out of any class, period. Clearly loves math.
His notes were extremely organized, a lot of homework but he operates on the more reps you take the better you get. Any questions asked he'll go as deep in to explanation as needed. Was hoping to take him for math 96 but, work schedule didn't line up. Best math teacher I've ever had. But, you do need to be at every class.
Made math easy and fun. I honestly feel like I learned alot and remember most of it. Some chapters were difficult, but his study guides and practice problems the day before the test help immensely. See him out of class when you need help he is very polite and reviews problems you had trouble with and clarifies things for you.
One of the best math teachers I've ever had - great attention to detail, easy to follow. He's clearly putting a lot of time and thought into his lectures going in to each class.
I took his class in elementary statistics 119X. He's an intransigent professor with a strict-uncompromising work ethic. If you fall behind in your studies or assignments he simply will not care. I'd get if this was an 'advanced' class and this is your major. But most students just want to fulfill there gen-ed requirements. Not worth it!
Omg guys PLEASE LISTEN TO ME. I have NEVER rated a professor before but I am now just to save you guys from this dude. He is THE WORST TEACHER IVE EVER HAD. Monotone voice, the most boring awkward individual ever and moves so fast. Theres a test every week. I had to drop the class. THE WHOLE CLASS WAS LITERALLY FAILING NO ONE SHOWED UP ANYMORE.
This is actually MATH119 for Stats. This man looks like Brad Pitt lowkey. Good lectures. Projects are IMPORTANT and he grades pretty easy on them so that's nice. Get good grades on the homework. You'll have unlimited attempts. He's strict about cell phones so just don't take it out. Enjoyed his class though!
One of the most professional teachers Ive seen. Positive energy and vibe, every single class, the whole semester! Im in my mid thirties ( I used to be an English teacher ); the last time I saw numbers was 17 years ago, plus it was in another language, and I hated math. However, I enjoy solving math problems now, thanks to professor Moore.
This is for Math119 (Stats). Professor Moore was actually a very funny but kind professor. Most of your grade will be based on projects, but the projects are fairly simple as long as you pay attention in class. The only thing about Professor Moore was that he is very strict about phones. He will mark you absent for having your phone out.
Math119 (Stat). Hes the best professor that Ive taken this semester. Hes a nice and funny person. His lectures are very clear and easy to understand. I do recommend his class for you guys.
He go through most of the problems only once , sometime when student ask for help , he only explain or gave a hint for first step . he believe the theory of (Struggle) , he want student to figure our the problems on their own .Take him if you are STRONG STUDY ON YOUR OWN ! Pick someone else ! I DON'T WANT YOUNG PEOPLE MAKE MISTAKE IN THEIR LIFE!
Homework isn't graded. Exam averages were in the C's without a curve so definitely doable. Practice the homework problems and attend class like an adult and you're good. Also, doesn't require webassign or anything like that.
There are 4 exams and professor Moore is really a tough grader. He is very very slow in posting final grade too. I did very well in all 4 exams (score above 90%), and not bad in final exam, but endup with a B+. very tough grader. He is very slow to post final grade. if you take him, be aware of tough grader. I really regret taking his class.
Professor Moore is the best math teacher I've ever had. His lectures are easy to understand and match the tests well. The homework is tedious but gives you good practice. During the Covid transition, he would publish the test as a PDF at 9 and you were just required to submit it by midnight. If you struggle in calc, take him. He makes it easy.
A lot of homework but it isn't graded, quizzes are based on hw mostly. Exams are needed to work for. But because of the online classes, he gave a whole day to complete it which made it awesome. Projects are given a week to complete which are basically like homework problems.
Professor Moore was a good lecturer and I really enjoyed his class. He drops your two lowest quiz scores and the homework comes straight from the book however he does not check it for credit. Quizzes are not worth much of your grade, it mostly depends on the 4 exams and final. He brings a lot of energy to his lecturers which makes class less boring
Decent professor but this class requires you to either study or do HW A LOT throughout each week. You'll have to study really hard to get an A in Calc 2.
Great teacher of Basic Techniques of Calculus. Very thorough in his online video lectures. Homework on Pearson web consisted of material that was taught in lectures. Small Quiz every week. Made Calculus enjoyable.
A very good professor, he was very thorough with his pre-recorded lectures despite it being only 15-45 min max. Homework is difficult, but he most definitely helps on zoom meetings. Would recommend using Chegg if you're too lazy to attend his optional zoom tutors (Which I highly recommend you all to attend). Overall I enjoyed Math121!
It is a hard class. a lot of homework and exams. Professor Ryan Moore is a tough grader. This doesn't help with your grade. So you have to work very hard for your grade.
It is not an easy class. you have to work hard for your grade. Professor Moore is a tough grader. That doesn't help much with your grade. So be prepared to spend more time in his class. not an easy A.
It is a tough class. He is also tough grader, which is not really helpful. You have to work hard for your grade. Not an easy A.
The class is hard. And he is really tough on grading. This won't help with your grade. You will have to spend a lot of time and work very hard for your grade in his class.
I have dyscalculia and this class was super easy. Watch his lessons & you'll know everything for the hw and quizzes. You'll need the textbook for hw, the class is formatted with 2 sections of the textbook done each week, and every week there's a small 5 question quiz about the subjects. Zoom office hours are perfect for questions about the topic.
I usually struggle a lot in math but this professor made learning a very rigorous course a breeze. Exams are exactly like the homework so you'll be very prepared for when they come around. He's not a tough grader whatsoever and he's very understanding. Probably the best math professor I've ever taken.
Having failed MATH151 before, I didn't expect much taking it a second time, but professor Moore changed the way I approached calculus and made me understand things in my calculus 1 course that professor didn't teach me well enough. I didnt even put in that much work to get an 'A' and I'm usually pretty bad at math
I struggled a lot through precalc and calc 1 but I actually kind of excelled in calc 2 because of how simple professor Moore made the concepts and how he graded us in our knowledge
I am so glad I took this professor. He made all the concepts incredibly easy to learn and his lectures were a joy to watch. If you are nervous about taking Calculus, this is your ticket to success.
Best math teacher ever. He helps you really understand your confusion in math if you ask him questions. I never felt like there was a problem I couldn't do on his quiz if I did the homework and took DETAILED notes in lecture. Very generous grading just show work. Late homework allowed but don't get behind b/c there's a quiz every week but no tests
Pretty good professor, solid all around. If you do homework, you will do well on the quizzes which are every week. If you do well on quizzes you will do well on the test. Also gives a lot of partial credit if you show work which is great if you make a mistake somewhere. The lectures were always fun and interesting, and have videos accompanying them
The class was hard for me, but Moore is a great professor. He explained the concepts well and made them easily digestible. There are a lot of lectures and assignments, and it is better to get them all done within the same week, and Prof. Moore is willing to help out with any questions. 10/10 !!
Be prepared to do lots of homework and a quiz almost every week. It might seem like a lot, but it's all extremely useful material that helps you learn. The grading system is really clear and your lowest quiz and exam scores will be dropped in favor of a higher scored final. Gives you many chances to get a good grade in the class.
This is a course you need to take seriously, you cant just skate by and expect to pass. It will be your whole life while taking it. Mr.Moore really gives you all of the tools, the online class is super fast paces, on the second day there's a quiz already and it builds from there. Realistically you need to spend all day studying.
Run Far Away. This professor is so meticulous when he grades. He does not care if you're having a hard time. So much homework its unbelievable and it's in the text book. Every two weeks it's like 300 questions to solve and show your work for points. Exams are on paper in person and are very hard.
He grades exams based on if you solved it the way he wants not only the correct answer. You can get the correct answer on the test but if you didn't solve it right he will deduct point or give you no points at all. You don't even know if he is graded it correctly or making an error since he never hands back the tests that are graded.
The worst professor ever more than half the class failed and he could care less. The extra credits was .20% and one of them was solving a Rubik's cube and other was building a popsicle bridge and testing it with weight If you ask me .20% is not enough for those difficult and time consuming stuff.
The group projects if a student in the group is MIA YOU get points deducted from the project score. Even if you can't get into contact with that person. He will make you redo an assignment multiple times until you get it the way HE wants. Even if those instructions weren't on the assignment. He won't give you the score until you fix it. RUN AWAY!!
I took this professor because of his high score on rate my professor. but the score not telling the truth. hardest class I have ever taken. I put in so much work just to barely pass. I had no life outside of this class. He had an unbelievable amount of homework. All of it had to be handwritten. I've never wasted much paper in my life.
the exams are the most difficult thing I've ever done. doesn't matter if you get the correct answer. If you don't show your work, the exact way he wants it. he will deduct points and a lot. exams are worth 60% of the grade. homework is 8%. I still did it cause, it will drop down your grade really low if you don't. I was crying the entire semester.
This professor does not have clear grading, nor does he have any compassion for his students. so precise in the way grades. He asks you to show your work in everything. But he doesn't say how wants it to be shown so you end up getting marked down and everything you do. he does not curve your grade or drop your last exam. I regret taking his class.
I took his 6-week online class after already completing calc ab in high school. Since I already knew most of the material is wasn't too difficult, but his videos are very clear and helped me understand the material easily. The group projects are annoying, however, because if someone else doesn't participate you'll get a point deducted.
The best professor to guide you if it's your first time taking calculus! A quiz every week, but you can fix the questions you got wrong and he'll give you all the points you missed back. Tests are not hard IF YOU STUDY. There are a LOT of homework questions, but they will really prepare you for the exams. Don't procrastinate.
This professor was terrible. He didn't teach anything and gave a bunch of group work. It's not high school but he sure make you feel like it is.
Hard to understand. Doesn't understand when students struggle with math. So much work and so little time. Speeds through lectures, lots of partner work with other people that are as lost as you. Ends a lot of note lectures RIGHT before tests within less than a couple of days; so little time to study.
Each day you are in class besides exam days there will be a lecture, so I suggest you make friends in the class that you can notes from if you miss a day. He allows you to turn in anything late and to redo assignments, besides exams, until you get desired grade. Lots of partner work though, but you have a lot of time in class to complete homework.
Semester started off good but as it went on quality of the professor declined. Skims over important sections and doesn't go over problems on homework. Examples in class are very different than what is on the exams and on the homework.
I recommend doing all the homework and if you need help or have questions ask him and he'll be glad to help. He gives good feedback on your quizzes, so you'll end up figuring out how to do the problems that you originally needed help with. Not only that but you get one retake on all of your quizzes so that plus feedback should help.
Professor Moore is a reasonable grader and explains things clearly. There is a lot of homework, but it can be turned in late. Overall, he is a good teacher.
Moore was an extremely difficult prof. Many peers switched out due to a hard time understanding his lectures/amount of work given. Often, there are projects/hw that aren't gone over in class so you won't understand without outside resources. Group quizzes every week, make friends or you're out of luck!! 2/4 exams were hard, the final is 2 sections.
The lectures are old YouTube videos. The content covered in the lectures are not accurately represented on the tests and the homework is a lot of work. There are 30-50 questions for each section and there are almost 10 sections for each unit. The grading is very unclear as well. I do not recommend this professor and would not take his class again!
Professor Moore is really passionate about mathematics. Super lenient with homework deadlines also, and offered a lot of opportunity for extra credit. The tests are hard but he will explain what you did wrong. Great Professor!
Lectures go over basics of concepts. Quizzes and tests consist of extremely difficult/complex ideas or problems that are never reviewed in class or in the homework. Master concepts in your own time or you will fail. Watching tutorials, going to tutoring, and doing Khan Academy are not enough to pass at the current rate. You are expected to fail.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Only take him if you want your GPA to fall. This is probably one of the worst math professors I have ever taken. That's all I have to say.
OMG guys he's such a great professor!! There is a lot of work though, but thats just the nature of the course. If you just keep up with the work (watching all of his lecture videos) and the homework, you should be fine. His quizzes and test are not bad at all. He doesn't throw any "curveballs," and its all stuff we have seen before,.
Only take if you've mastered Calculus beforehand and want to test your proficiency. Expect the hardest possible questions based on topics covered for each exam and quiz and be able to apply mastery knowledge on quizzes that can be as close as 1 day after the lesson. Level of difficulty hinder your ability to practice or comprehend the material.
I took his 6-week summer course, which I would not recommend unless absolutely necessary. That being said, his lectures are very clear and straightforward, and the tests are reasonable. He assigns A LOT of hw but it's great prep for the tests which are much easier. I did great on exams w/o studying, just doing the hw which took up my whole summer!
Make sure you are paying attention to the lectures because the homework is a direct reflection of what you just learned. This combo class is split into 2 parts, lecture and then time to do the homework with an assigned partner, with a 10 minute break in between. All assignments, except exams, can be turned in late or redone to get a desired grade.
He will not let you make up group quiz grades, even if you missed class for an important reason. He assigns a lot of homework that has is minimally related to the quizzes and exams. Also, he sometimes wears politically charged t-shirts which can make situations uncomfortable. Would not reccomend.
He failed calc 1 - 3 times not because he isnt smart but because its a hard subject to break ice into. For his class ask questions when you dont get stuff and lean into your peers that understand. He teaches for all learning styles. Extracurricular is mandatory. Group test are hard! Alone test...still pretty tough. Homework do-dont havta finish
