This teacher is great!!!! He loves his job and you can tell with every class!! this teacher is a MUST TAKE for 1301 and 1302!! He will keep you intereted and wanting to learn his teaching style is very simple just show up!
Very good instructor. I like the review he completes before each class.
Pettengill is the BEST!!! He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about history. Until now, I hated History because it was boring. Pettengill brings History to life. I anticipated going to class because his presentation is easy to comprehend. I finally understand the events that led up to the Civil War and the post war impact. Imagine That!!!
Mr.Pettingill's class is a must for those who are borderline between taking history. He makes it so interesting and leaves one wanting more classtime. The man has standards, but if you pay close attention and work a little you should be okay. Great knowledge, great teacher, great class to take as long as he is the one teaching it.
OMG! He was so awesome and inspiring that he makes me want to teach history. Great mixture of fun and learning. He has great passion for his subject and he sets every last one of his students up for success! He lectures the entire time but, you will fail his class simply because you wanted to! I believe his teaching only has room to get better!
WOW! This guy is good. He lectures the entire class period and very easy to follow along..his take home quizzes are easy! He does make you think though but thats not always a bad thing. He is the BEST history teacher I have ever had..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! He's good he knows his stuff...:)
Super cute and awesome!
By far the greatest professor I have ever had! This man is awesome! Encouraging and congradulates success!
very good professor; you can tell he's passionate about his subject. always prepared. lectures the whole class, but is interactive. lots of reading for a history class though. offers extra credit. if you just listen and try to understand, you'll do fine. there is work, but it's not that bad. overall good experience.
I felt as though Prof. Pettengill is overrated. His class is like hist+eng combined. I was taking a Lit. class this sem.& and I got an A in Lit not so much with hist. Too much notes and novel reading for a hist class. He expects a lot and grades tough. Thinks you know everything about hist.
This professor goes through a lecture far too quickly, not enough time to write all the notes down and is not very clear, he talks very fast. He expects a lot from you as if you were a history major. Although his lectures are fun. Your hard work doesn't lead to a great grade.
Great Professor!! If you want to pass go to class and take good notes. His lectures are interesting and he does his best to help his students succeed. You will have to work for your A though. The take home quizzes are simple, he gives a review for the midterm and final and you have 2 papers. He also gives out extra credit opportunities. Take him!
A caring and very devoted professor. As long as u pay attention in class and take notes you'll be just fine. He's a really good guy!
Regardless of how hard you try, I don't think anything will ever be good enough for him. He is arrogant, as is evident in his lectures. He thinks he knows everything and has the attitude that students are bothersome.
Professor Pettengill is by far the best hist yeacher i have had...lectures entire claas and take notes but lecturesare very easy to follow and he allows and encorages students to ask questions about anything...has open discussions and reviews b$ each class....very easy quizzes , simple papers, and midterm and final are farely easy w/a lil studying
Does not provide good guidance or constructive criticism. Snot nosed pip-squeak at best.
although his lectures are straightforward the dude talks very fast. my notes were terrible until i started taking my laptop to class, then it got easier. his grading is pretty fair, you'll get the grade you deserve.
class is not hard at all the two test that we took are easy and he lets you use one sheet of paper with outlines for d writing parts! he explains his power points good!
I used to hate history sooo much, but after taking his class, I almost changed my major to history! BEST HISTORY TEACHER EVER. As long as you show up and make it clear that you are wanting to succeed, he will do everything to make sure you will ;)
I really enjoyed his class. His major goals are to teach you about the importance of history, and to teach students how to write essays. His quizzes are really easy if you understand them. The essays should be very persuasive and engage the central question. Proper grammar and punctuation is also required. =)
Dr. P is an amazing professor, its clear he has a passion for history. His lectures are interesting and often include short video clips, power point ect.. You'll have some tke home quizes, write 2 papers and have 2 tests that you get a review for... Take notes and you'll be fine :)
I took him for summer 2, he is a great teacher, he gives out 6 quizzes for the entire 6 weeks which are take home and are very easy. There are two exams which are the midterm and final which are easy aswell and he lets u take an outline for the essay part of the test. His whole class is nothing but lecture but time goes by fast so its not boring.
Excellent prof. I dont know what the other students are talking about, just dont be lazy about doing the work and you'll get an A. How do I know? hmm because I got an A myself, and am not very good in history
Excellent Professor!!! Wish all my Professors were like Dr.P. It would make College life much easier. If you are a visual learner and hate taking 50+ multiple choice Exams, then this class is for you!!! Different strokes for different folks, but I've learned so much from this guy!!
He is extremely helpful teacher . His lecture are good , very easy to understand. you just need to pay attention. you need to attend his every class if you do make sure you get your notes. I highly recommend taking Dr. Pettengill , he makes the course fun and you learn alot .
He is an awesome teacher. Lectures are interesting. HW is easy. He helps alot and is very easy going. Really good teacher shows interest in helping students passing.I would really recommend this guy he is the best. I learned alot from him because he made class fun and interesting everyday + the tests are not that hard if you payed attention in clas
A good professor. Just make sure to do all the quizes. His class can be easy if you just do the work. Make sure to attend class because his participation grade is a major part of the grading. And if you take this class, MAKE SURE you add comments or ask questions just to be in the conversation because that adds to the participation grade.
he knows what he is doing he actually helps students a lot and answers your questions after class and during class he lets just say he works not for the paycheck but works to help and make his students succeed
He is awesome! very helpful. Just make sure to keep up with the work and you'll be guaranteed to pass. Only 2 essays and 2 test the whole semester
Pettengill is a great professor! straightforward and to the point.he interacts with students in class. answers questions before and after. very helpful. informative. thought provoking. wants students to care about history and also succeed in life. 9/10
Great teacher, accesible, and very understanding. HE puts things into an understandable point of view.
Very cool dude! He took a subject that I hated and turned it into something I love now! Highly recommended, Im taking him again for hist2 this semester. Not bad on the eyes either!
I am not a native English-speaking student, but I worked hard on his class. His approach is transparent and consistent, especially he combined American History with Literature context. You need to write to demonstrate your readings. Tests are spelled out in details & in advance. Your hard work will deserve his recognition.
He's extremely knowledgeable and open-minded to students. He speaks a little fast so that you need to take note carefully. He gives out tests in advance so that students can get ready. Clear and consistent grade framework.
He is a very great teacher! Took him for both 1301 and 1302 and recieved a A in both classes. Just do all your assignments, participate, and show up and you'll do great
very good teacher his gradeing his easy he doesn't belive in failing any student.and his very patient with you.
Outstanding Professor, by far my favorite in MVC. I'm not very fond of history but Pettengill manages to be completely informative, interesting and knowledgeable of the subject. You just have to be willing to work and meet deadlines, study, notes and it's all good :) Take his class if you really want to learn some history! I definitely recommend!:)
Awesome Professor! But you do have to work and you actually have to learn.
Very educational class as if I was getting a class at the level a university class. Deadlines, essays, and exams are extremely clear. He does not change his syllabus and replies to EVERY email, very helpful. He clearly knows what he is doing and teaching about. Just do every assignment and you'll get no lower than a B. Took him for both 1301 & 1302
There is a great need for more teachers like Prof. Pettengill. He is a challenge, and that's what college should be! He does not play around and gives you a taste of REAL LIFE - it's called responsibility. I can not thank this teacher enough for holding an intellectual class that I enjoyed going to twice a week.
I had pro pettengill my first sem of college. He was helpful and he knew wat he was talking about. I really recommend him!. But I didnt pass his class I guess I was nervous since it was my first year but the second time I tryed to get him but hes. Good so his classes get full quick.
His main thing is essays. His guidelines are a little confusing maybe its because I took his online class. I don't feel like I learned enough by doing essays. Even his quizzes are answered with short essays.
His class was pretty easy. He is more than willing to work with you and his lectures are interesting. Do all the assignments and you will be fine. I made an A for both 1301 and 1302. I highly recommend him.
A attended the class, did all my work, and made high B's on my essays but some how still failed with a 68. When questioned, he simply stated that it was the grade I deserved. Didn't like it, but the class was enjoyable.
Took him for 1301 and 02 and got A's. Grades come from attendance, short answer diss. forums usually on Fridays, a couple of quizzes, midterm and final exam of an essay 10 multiple choice ques. and 2 or 3 short answer ques. His lectures are off PowerP and not boring bc he knows what he's talking about and enjoys it. Take good notes bc you will need them. Work is not hard bc you are actually learning and he gives you all the information you need. Don't over think things. Favorite professor.
He is a great teacher took him both HIST 1301 and 1302. I strongly recommend him.
I've taken Alfers for HIST 1302 and got a D. Decided to take Dr. P and so far the best professor! Willing to help by giving extra credit to those who work beyond. He is very organized! He has videos if you missed class! We need more professors like him! Take him!!
I truly enjoyed Dr Pettingill's class. He is very knowledgeable, and not to mention passionate about his subject matter. When I first took this course with another professor and online, I didn't do so good and needless to say, was not thrilled at all of retaking History, but I am truly blessed to have had Dr P (essays and all). Bring on Hist 1302.
He is a good teacher, hard grader though but fair. I took his online class and I really liked how he recorded his lectures, it was very helpful.
GREAT PROFFESSOR! Dr. Pettengill is willing to help as much as he can. I will recommend you take notes and go to all the classes. He gives a study guide for midterm and final exam. In writing papers, he gives ideas to his students.
Great educator!!!! his Lectures are always interesting and is always willing to help students out. He really likes class participation and offers extra credit opportunities.
OMG, Best History Professor...Ever! Not only is he easy on the eyes (sorry ladies, he's taken), but he has intellect. He is VERY helpful: Firm but Fair. And he gives be coup amounts of extra credit, but you have to be willing to accept the "challenges," which is more reading or listening and definitely more writing. Keep up the great work, Dr P!
Dr. P is the best! I learned a lot in his class. Sometimes the work was a bit challenging but hey it is college, right?
Dr. P was an amazing professor. He is very willing to work with you and is very helpful. His lectures are interesting and he likes a lot of participation. Gives out lots of extra credit! There is some writing needed, but it's not very difficult. He always is willing to explain things that aren't clear and I highly recommend him.
I took this guy in 2013 Summer Session. Didn't really like to learn history before his class and now I think history is actually pretty cool! Great professor! :)
LOVED Dr. Pettengill! He is THE teacher to take if you really want to learn History in a fun & exciting way. Really knows his stuff and will respectfully challenge your thinking. Not an easy A- you have to EARN it- but worth it if you participate and work hard.
Awesome Professor class a bit challenging he is very willing to work with you if you ask him.Heaven sent. Thank You JESUS for PETTENGILL :)
Pettengill's lectures are extremely well presented and easy to understand. He makes history very interesting and makes it clear what he expects on tests/quizzes. He also gives extra credit opportunities. I highly recommend taking his classes!
DR. P is a great professor but I don't recommend you take his class online or in the winter term if you really want to grasp HIST1301. I just took it Winter13 and it kicked my butt got a B but I know if I would have been sitting in class I would of done better.
I personally loved his class. He is clear about what he wants in his class, he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities, and it is an easy class as long as you show up and pay attention and do the papers. He also puts the slideshows on Blackboard but they are not always the same as his lectures. I would definitely recommend his class!
Bad teacher, Never think you can get A in this class, if not you can try it 50min 50 questions.
Easy and interesting class. very nice teacher and really knows what he's talking about!
At first he was hard or I felt like he was, but he is very nice and tries to help you. Must do the work and take notes from his video lectures and use book. You must work cant slack on his class. I recommend if you are willing to actually work.
Great professor
Dr. Pettengill was seriously a great professor. He knew the topics, he related them to current events, and he kept it fresh. He also uploads all of his powerpoints and lectures (yes, full lectures) online. Not much reading, either, for a History class. Papers are a bit rough, but the rest of the class makes up for that. Great guy, would take again.
He is a really good teacher! Interesting and helpful.
Great professors his videos are very helpful if you did not get his instructions for essay's ! Love his lectures take notes and participate for extra credit don't be shy ! Show up to class or you'll miss important information.
He is really into his teaching which made me look forward to coming to his class each time. If you just study what he tells you and write the important things down along with reading the books for the essays, there is no reason you should not pass. I have never met a professor as amazing as this one.
Does good lectures. Easy class, didn't feel like a drag going to class. Papers were easy.
Best professor I've had so far. I hated history before this class & he actually made it interesting. His lectures are not boring at all. His videos on YouTube pretty much tell you straight up what he wants on the essayspapers which is very helpful. As long as you do all the assignments you'll be fine. He also offers A LOT of easy extra cred. easyA
Best teacher ever. Do what he assigns and you will do fine. Expect to do work, it's college.
For the most part, he's a great teacher. Very knowledgeable. If you like to sit down and listen to them talk all class, this is the one you should take. But skip one class, and you'll get behind. He has a schedule for the homework he gives you must keep an eye on so you won't miss a thing. But he's very helpful in giving extra credit.
Amazing teacher. Lecture where great. His passion was unstable and before you know it I'm excited for the next lecture. Take his class already!!!
He is so understanding! I def recommend him not only is he handsome but also very interesting. He keeps the class going. Very intelligent and funny. Grades are fair and there are no tests but midterm and final.
He lectures each class and gives up a list of key words to watch off for. These basically signal that you need to take notes. Very passionate about teaching. I took him for a summer semester and it was a very good class. I enjoyed going to class, and can Mr. Pettengill has been the only history teacher to get me excited about history!
Dr. P. is very clear in his teachings and the homework is always related to the lecture. He does not try to trick in exams or papers. It is all very straight forward! DO your work and you will pass with an A. Extra credit opportunity is helpful as well. Great professor. Highly recommend him!
DR. PETTENGILL ONLINE COURSE ROCKED... I MADE A B+. THE LECTURES, EXAMS AND ESSAY PAPERS ARE STRAIGHT FORWARD, ALL READING MATERIALS ARE NEED TO COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS. I WOULD TAKE HIM IF YOU ENJOY YOUTUBE VIDEOS AND READING.
I took Dr.P for History 1301 during maymester this year! Great and fantastic teacher! If you put in the work and do all the assignments, discussions, quizzes, papers and test YOU will make an A! Clear and concise, all video lectures, helpful and responds to everyone!! Definitely take if you need history credits!
I took this as my first online course to get some credits out of the way during the summer before heading back to my university. I'm doing an internship as well and he was super understanding and extended deadlines for me without me even asking for extensions. His lectures are sometimes hard to make myself listen to but they're so helpful!
He is such a great professor. I took him the past two semester, and he was very clear on what he wanted. You can tell that he loves his job. Helpful in many different ways! Always gives extra credit. Very funny too! Take him, you won't regret it!
I really enjoyed this course! His youtube lectures are long but very interesting! You don't really need the book because his lectures are that good. He gives you an outline of what has to be done and by when and gives extensions if needed. He also provides the online versions of the 2 texts that are used to write the essays, which is great!
Dr.P has so far been my favorite professor and first A. As long as you participate and are sure to answer all of the questions he asks when writing essays you'll do great! Also, any tests are relatively short and straight to the point, mainly multiple choice and short answers are 2-4 sentences tops. Took him this summer and didn't regret it!
Excellent professor. You have to work for your grade, but he gives you everything you will need to succeed. If he offers any extra credit, TAKE IT. He also gives an honors option. THERE IS A LOT OF WRITING INVOLVED.
Dr. P rocks. I'm a straight A student and I've taken many classes, but Dr. P is just the best professor I have ever had. You'll look forward to every class session with him. He makes learning about our country's history a great experience. Be prepared to work. There are papers to write and books to read, but that's the point of school.
Professor Pettengill is Amazing! I had taken history twice and with him it was my third time. I actually learned about history, since he makes it clear and fun. Get ready to do quizzes, discussions plus mid-term and final exams. Could be an easy A if you have discipline. I would take him again if I had to!
Professor Pettengill's lectures are awesome and I recommend people take his 1301 and 1302 class. His class can be a challenge but he works with you.
He's a really good professor and I'm willing to take him for 1302!!
This class includes online discussions which are mandatory frequently, two essays which are not so hard to do if you listen in class and look at his YouTube video explaining what he wants from the essay, two test which are hard but you will do just fine if you study and do the outline for the test. Many extra credit opportunities to make honors
He is a great professor. Always enjoyed his lectures and is very clear about assignments. Definitely recommend and would take again!
Dr. P was an incredible resource for history knowledge. He really enjoys his topic. He is by no means an easy professor, but the resources are there for you to get an A if you want it. He's taken the time to outline all of his papers and lectures on YouTube. He is a fair grader and sticks to his word. Some very funny moments in class as well.
You really cannot fail this class. He is there for you if you need anything. He gives you all what you need to pass this class (even text book) His lectures are amazing and engaging! I've never felt so smart! I learned so much! Wish i could take him for 1302, but cannot due to work schedule. TAKE HIS CLASS (I took this class on Fall Semester 2015)
Professor Pettengill is great at his career. He knows how to keep you entertained in class and also has some connections to modern time vs history. You would think this class would be dull and not interesting at all, but it is the complete opposite of that.
Pettenguil is so good I had to leave him a rate. If you do what he asks for, you're to pass with an A. His lectures are amazing, he's good at what be does and his passion for history makes his class Iearnable. He helps you if you need the extra help and not to mention he's super hot.
Though the homework wasn't extreme, we did have homework, on average, one assignment every week. This could have been due to the short summer semester, so I did not mind.
He was probably the best teacher I had ever had. Not much homework and was very accessible for help. Taking him again next semester.
Omg I absolutely love professor Pettengill, he's such a great teacher. Right from the start you can tell he loves history and honestly his class has been my favorite history class ever ..I'm definitely taking him for history 1302
Great Professor! His lectures are clear
Dr. Pettengill gives great lectures. He is a walking textbook. Exams and Papers are designed to make you form your own thoughts and opinions and really make you think. Very approachable. Cares about all of his students. My classes with him were 3 hours long, but he makes it go by quick!
He is a very helpful professor. Do all the work/ extra credit an A is guaranteed in this class. Ps. I do not like History and I got an A.
Fantastic professor. I have never recieved such interesting lectures to the point that you actually look forward to text class. You must work for the grade but it is nothing too difficult. Getting an A, however, is not a bit more challenging, as in his class an A is from 92-100, not 90. Gives lots of extra credit. Honors credit if you get an A
Can't say enough good things about Prof. Pettengill. Dr. P stood out far beyond all my online college experiences thus far. Online students tend to be the "forgotten class" and get very little interaction or feedback. It's disheartening because I would love to be on campus, but can't. Felt like a real student for the first time.
Dr. P is a great professor all around. He takes time to ensure we got the information clearly. He has a youtube channel filled with videos which provide extra help for essay etc. Extra credit is also offered and please do sleep on those discussion questions, they can make or break your grade. Took his class twice, fall in class and summer online.
I took Dr. Pettengil for History 1301 and currently taking him for 1302 and I do NOT regret it! Amazing professor!!!! One of my favorite professors at MVC. Great lectures, gives a lot of extra credit, and provides reviews for exams. He is quick to respond to emails and is willing to help you in any way!
took class over the summer. 2 hour lectures were intense but take notes and do all the extra credit for a pretty easy A. The essays are the only downside but in the end, the extra credit will bump you up an entire letter grade (probably even more) Online tests (easy) and open ended questions and essay for test are given ahead of time
Amazing historian history professor. He knows his history the who's the whys the how's the when's. Show small clips during his lecture to give a better precise idea of where he's going with his lectures. I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Pettengill
Dr. P is amazing, he's very passionate about history. There's lots of reading and lectures but he explains things so clearly. Make sure to take notes. Text books are mandatory but he provides several ways to read them in downloads online. The essays were tricky. Something due each day in summer classes, stay on top of the work so you don't drown.
Definitely a professor worth taking. You can tell he has a passion to teach the subject, making it a lot easier to sit through the lectures. There are a lot of extra credit assignments, and he is very flexible as long as you are willing to try.
Amazing professor! The lectures were never boring, and was always easy to talk to. Gave all the information needed to complete assignments and the instructions to the assignments were always clear and to the point. No excess of work, and very thoughtful of the students. Also gave extra credit opportunities
I loved Pettengill he is every smart and knows his stuff. I learned a lot from him. It is an intense writing course but its worth it. He goes over everything with you he never makes people feel dumb and will help you anyway he can.
I took his Hist class online for the spring semester. I enjoyed his lectures on youtube. They were very informative and they weren't longer than 30 minutes per lecture. He had a lot of writing assignments but nothing to extreme. As long as you study and do all your work there is no way you can fail his class.
In general, I enjoyed my experience in Professor Pettengill's class. His lectures were very engaging, clear and easy to follow. Do be prepared to write two papers, participate in discussion forums, writing based quizzes, AND to take LOTS of notes during class.
Took this course over the summer as a sophomore in high school for dual credit. I found the course to be a breeze. Amazing professor. If he sees you are in need of help he will be available. Very kind.
Great professor. I am only sad I wont be able to take his class again
Professor Pettengill was by far my favorite teacher so far at mt. View, his lectures were so interesting and it made you want to go to class, I know for a lot of students history may seem "boring" but he had a great way of capturing your attention. He is so passionate about what he teaches. I was bummed I didn't see him on the roster for 1302
I personally love history so I enjoyed his class. A very good professor that takes what he does seriously. Recommend to anyone who needs a good history class, you won't regret it.
Very enthusiastic about what he was teaching. Only had 2 papers and the rest of the work was quizzes (very easy) and discussion boards. If you turn in the work in time and go to the extra credit opportunities, you'll be fine.
He is one of the best professors that I have met. He is very specific about what he expects from the students and is very passionate about teaching. There are 2 exams, 2 papers, 6 quizzes and Discussion forums which are due every Friday. He has all his lectures in Youtube with every details and if you are willing to work for it, its an easy A.
I had a situation with getting my hands on the book, and he was so understanding about everything. Not only that, but he stepped in and helped as best he could. I enjoyed his YouTube lectures very much. He made history 1302 interesting! Amazing professor!
I just took his HIST-1301 class in Summer I and it was very enjoyable, he has very helpful lecture videos on YouTube telling you everything you need to know. You have to read a little here and there but this is truly an online course. I am so grateful to have had a professor like him. I got an A but unfortunately not all professors are like him.
Dope teacher. Took his class once and got a C due to my lack of attendance. The grade book was riddled with A's but dam that attendance. Don't skip class.
The best!
He is an AMAZING professor! You can see and feel his love for history- as far as his papers go, he does things STEP-BY-STEP, I'm not great at writing papers and I honestly don't like History, but he made things clear and helped me understand the importance of history. I wish I could take him all over again!
The only days you have to worry about his assignments are on Thursdays. His class is really flexible, gives you time to work on other classes. Awesome Professor! Took him online in the summer really great! Would highly recommend! As long as you complete the assignments you will be alright.
Dr. P makes the class easy. His lectures are easy to follow. 2 major papers due throughout semester. a half dozen quizzes. and discussions every week. A lot of reading, but thats not a big deal either. easy grade as long as you pay attention to lectures and understand the material.
Dr. P is very thorough with his lectures. He has many online lectures in case you miss a day. He speaks in a way that everyone could understand and makes the lectures very interesting. He also throws in a few jokes here and there. I look forward to his class every week. He's a great professor and you will enjoy his class.
This man is obviously passionate about the vastly untold parts of history and delivers lectures in a way that will leave you fascinated and wanting to know more.
Dr. P is an amazing professor his lectures are very interesting and even when i would not pay attention I'd still remember what he was talking about. I took HIST1301 with him and i already signed up to take HIST1302 with him again. Do all your homework and you'll for sure pass.
Amazing and inspirational. You do have to work for your grade and read but you do learn a lot. His lectures are very entertaining to listen to. Two essays but they are not too bad and the tests are fairly simple
Dr. P is awesome. I took him for History 1301 and it was honestly an great class. He didn't make it too hard but we did have to do the work, which wasn't too hard. Do the work and you will pass.
I took Prof Pettengill Summer 1 2017, writing intensive class. He is very knowledgeable and his lectures are full of good information. Take good notes, listen, read the books, do the work. I loved the "cocktail information" bits he would share with the class. There were 2 papers, and discussions twice a week. I think there was a weekly test/quiz.
I liked how he taught his class with a passion for what he is teaching. He was not to difficult as long as you came to class, listened and took notes. He has very helpful youtube lectures that can help you out on his assignment. Is willing to help and always answer your questions if you asked.
pretty good professor but due dates need to get fixed.
Took Dr. Pettengill for History 1301 and 1302. Hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are very interesting and his homework is pretty simple. 2 papers throughout the whole semester, 5 quizzes, 1 optional for extra credit, as well as 10 Discussion Forums. You will not regret taking his class.
Will not take this hard professor again.
Had Prof . Pettengill for HIST 1301 and 1302. He's very passionate about history and makes it fun, even for someone who doesn't like history. Offers a good amount of extra credit and as long as you put your effort in, you should be able to earn an A.
Dr. P does not give inspiring history lessons, his class is fast paced to cover as much info as possible so theres a serious tone. He doesn't expect life changing papers but as long as you can link the key terms he describes in class to your thesis you should get an awesome grade. Theres no need to buy a book, just take pics from the library's.
Dr. P, is passionate for History and if you do not like History, he makes it very interesting! You will do a a lot of reading and write a few papers but, it is all worth it! I will definitely take his next class.
2nd time ive taken Dr P. its alot of work, but he gives u all the info needed to do well on the assignments. majority of writing assignments are meant for u to show that u listened and read books. for each assignment, if uve paid attention, you should be able to have more than enough knowledge to meet the requirements. easy pass if u paid attention
If you're not enrolled in Dr. Pettengill's class by now, you are doing it all wrong. This class is not difficult and it's very interesting. He gives ample time to complete assignments and is accessible outside of class, you need only to ask. He's caring and wants you to succeed. Show up, participate, complete your assignments, and you will do well.
Professor Pettengill is an awesome professor . I took him for History 1302 as well. Very engaging and he is more than willing to help
He is a phenomenal teacher. He really cares about what hes teaching. History has always been my worst subject but his passion teaches you more than youd learn from anyone else.
Professor ryan p is an amazing professor. Great at what he does. He keeps his lectures really interactive. He makes sure he gives a wide of options to make sure you pass. I highly recommended as he can open your mind to bigger thinking .
Quizzes are essay form, hardly multiple choice but he's clear on what to focus during lecture or readings.
Easy Grader, just do the work. Books to read too
I took the flex term of a month. It was a fast but the work was all very clear. There are 2 essays but he has videos to guide you through the paper. As well as what he expects on the paper. He also gives strong feedback. As long as you do all the discussions, essays and quizzes you will pass the class. Also the work is not difficult at all.
Professor Pettengill provides an easy course as long as you read. Most of work is through discussion boards, written quizzes and some multiple choice. This class is easy as long as you complete the work he gives you points. You don't have to be an excellent writer.
Dr. P is awesome. He makes it easy for his students to understand the material. Provides PowerPoint on B.B and study guides before any test. He caters to most learning styles & gives feedback. Assignments are easy, most are discussions, 2 major papers (watch his YT vids they help alot) & 2 tests. By the way, this man does not know how to age.
Professor Pettengill's class is very easy if you read the books. you do have discussions but they are very easy. You have 5 quizzes (very short) & one for extra credit. You only have to do 2 papers. He is very understandable. 100% recommended.
I took him for both 1301 and 1302. One for wintermester and the other for maymester. I think it was okay, i mean, technically I got high B's for both classes but for 1301 I asked him to bump my 88 and he did, the second class he did not bc the A was a 92 for some reason. Just take him as the best of your options for profs, try really hard on papers
15 discussions, 5 quizzes plus 1 optional for extra credit. These are essay question quizzes not multiple choice. 2 papers over the books you read. A midterm and a final, both have 10 multiple choice, 2 or 3 essay questions and a short essay. He responds quickly and grades easy. Very lecture heavy. Focus on the ones the DB's and quizzes are about.
Professor Pettengil is very professional down to earth he loves what he does and is very passionate about teaching History. Attend class participate do your assignments you will pass.
Loved Dr. P! His lectures are great! Responds to emails pretty quickly.
amazing professor and will help you out, he makes history worth learning easy class tbh
I took this class in Summer II. While the class was packed with work, I found that as long as you make a solid effort youll see it in your your grade. My way of thinking about history changed so much. It wasnt just about leaning historical events but the reason they matter. You can really tell he loves what he does .
One of the most dedicated professors in DCCCD.
The only Professor you should take for History!
a great professor for history y'all should take him his class is an easy A tbh he's nice and very understanding
A very amazing professor, easy to pass his class and gives great information in history, mostly doesn't "do" handout papers, and will understand and have grace in your situations and what you turn in. Definitely glad I got this professor. Final exam is very easy if you take time to study about 25-30 minutes a day.
It was really hard to keep up with all the assignments its too much in my opinion... and he is a tough grader... good luck youll need it
Dr. P gives great lectures in class and online. If you don't understand something, there are prerecorded lectures for you to watch. On the other hand, he is somewhat a tough grader when it comes to his 2 papers. There are 5 quizzes, 6th is optional, 10 discussion forums, a midterm and final with multiple choice and essay portion.
Most of the thing you will need will be on blackboard he is very nice his instructions on assignments are very clear. When doing his lectures you can see how he enjoys speaking about the topics. I wish I took him for 1301.
Dedicated is passionate about teaching I wish I took him for 1301.
Great Professor that cares to help educate and give good resources for online assignments
This teacher was amazing with understanding your circumstances. He was very clear on grading and very nice to reply back to me through emails. His work was a lot at times for a may mester but just managing time was key. Overall great teacher!!!!
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! Very well organized course and easy to follow instructions. TIPS: To pass the exams and help write your papers, its very important you watch the video lectures and TAKE NOTES!!! Extra credit work available. If this old lady, who hasnt been in school for over 20 years can get a A+ than you most definitely can, too.
If you're a visual learner like me this class should be the right choice for you his lectures are easy to follow through mainly his class are two main essays and small quizzes but the papers are so easy cause if you don't understand he has a video explaining the entire question of the topic.
I really enjoyed taking this class in the summer. Mr. Pettengill really cares about his students. You can see how much work he put into creating his lessons on youtube. Take his class if you can!!!
This class is a lot of hard work, but if you work hard it is worth it. There are a lot of lectures but they are interesting. He had little extra credit assignments that were helpful to me. He had videos to help students out with tests and papers. He also is very good at responding on emails, which is a very good thing when taking online classes.
I took his class for Hist 1301 and 1302 and that is the best choice i had made in my life. Professor Pettengill is so passionate about history and I learn to do it too. I really recommend anyone to take his class. Do you work, read and be committed. He change my life for ever. He is very flexible and respond fast to emails. watch his videos
I took Prof Pettengill for the wintermester, 2020-2021. He is a great professor and has clear expectations, he is also very accessible and gives great feedback. The course was very content heavy and work heavy, but he gives you plenty of resources to succeed. He will change your perceptions of American history and society. Be prepared to read!
Best professor ever!!! Took him for HIST1301 & HIST1302 - 8 week summer semester. There is quite a bit of work load but its not hard if you are doing it timely. His lectures on YT are informative & fun, all you need is to take solid notes. You won't regret taking his class.
Took Summer1- 5 DBs (a question, opinionated ans, for each. Reply to 2 posts). 6 Chapter quizzes (also answering a question, but in a doc.) Extra Credit Quiz 6. 2 papers (argumentative essays for each book given). 1 Midterm (terms, 4 short answer responses, essay). 1 Final (7 multiple choice over terms, define & explain 2. 2 short ans., essay)
Wow this is a real professor who cares about his work. Im currently in Summer21 and yes, it is assignment heavy, but he has awesome online lectures and wants your own original answers. If youre not some poser college student, you can handle this class. Its not that bad and you actually learn. My course is just really fast.
He posted lectures on Youtube. You will have 5 discussion, 6 quizzes ( one optional), 2 papers, 2 exams. Papers will be based on reading from external books, quite heavy, but he gives a great details in paper guidelines, you should be fine. Discussion and quizzes are relatively easy. He gives a good feedback. Stick with exam previews (Summer class)
I really like that the syllabus has literally everything that will be in the test, review the terms and you should be able to pass the tests with good grades. Make sure to check the syllabus though. I didn't check it and missed the first reading assignment due, but I was able to make up for it by studying for the tests. Overall, great professor.
Professor Ryan Pettengill is the best history teacher have ever had. I took his class for both 1302 and 1301. He makes great youtube lectures with slideshows you can edit to take notes on. If you do your discussion questions and take your time on the test you will pass. He makes himself available via Instagram live to talk with him, plus emails.
I took Dr. Pettengill for HIST1301 and HIST1302. Things I appreciated: 1) Dr. Pettengill sent out weekly video announcements/reminders. Not all professors do this. 2) There were paper guideline videos. These were informative videos that explained what to write about 3) Dr. Pettengill has awesome lectures that engage visual and auditory learners!
