Since it is an online class, your experience with Ryan isnt gonna be much different than one from another teacher. As long as your really study for the first 4 tests, you can just do the assignments for the remaining tests and should be a breeze. He helped me with some pretty sophisticated office issues that were regarding other class too.
He does not accept late work often
Professor Toole was a helpful professor, but class is excessively hard. The textbook doesn't really explain how to do the projects and if you don't answer questions on the test the way the software wants you to, its wrong. I missed getting an A in the class by 1 question on the final because the system messed up. Toole answers email quickly though
This class is just learning the different word, excel, powerpoint, and access. You get a full sheet of paper front and back for each test. The tests are simulations of microsoft office and you get 2 attempts. I used the ASC testing center option. Its free and you dont have to take it at 8am like you would if you take it in class.
Is a good teacher, most of it is pretty straight forward as it is all online. However, not very easy to lenient on much if you have to miss something. Quick responses to email but not the most helpful
Underwhelming. Had him as an advisor too for a while. You turn in an assignment 2 minutes late, he won't take it. Period. Tried to get to know him, but got nothing from him. Id love his job though, sit in the office, operate an online class, and wait around for your 30 students you advise. Rinse and repeat.
He is not helpful when you try to email him. He does not answer your questions. He took a whole month to email me back and still didn't address everything I asked. I do not recommend this professor.
Ryan Toole... More like Ryan is a huge tool. Awful professor. The program he uses to grade projects and tests is very spotty and he won't help you at all. Numerous times my friends and I did the homework but did not receive any credit for it and he refused to help. His usual answer is "Call IT help." He is the most unhelpful professor I've ever had
I started with an average understanding of the MS Office suite and had very little trouble completing the assignments or exams. Each section consists of reading/practice questions, 2 projects, and an exam. Prof Toole will also release a practice exam a few days before the exam that is extremely helpful. I never emailed him, don't know resp times
Toole is absolutely no help. If you email him 99.8% of the time he will just tell you to contact tech support. He is difficult to talk to in person if you go to his office hours. Sometimes it feels like he should be taking the course with you. Also, the program he uses (SimNet) is absolute garbage. It's full of bugs, and sets you up for failure.
I made an A in this class but it was a total pain in the ass. This dude is a serious jerk. Some of my classmates made B's because of his "policies" that are completely ridiculous and the software is a total pain to use. You have to pay for remote proctor every time you take a test and remote proctor can mess up simnet when you take the exam.
Professor Toole does not communicate well. The course is online so you will not have to interact with him too much. However, if anything goes wrong (often times it will) he offers no help and is rude to his students.
Everyone else has pretty much summed him up. He really fits his name. If you go and actually talk to him, you'll absolutely see why as well. I tried to go and get basic help from him about an excel question, which is a part of what he "teaches" and he was very little help. Tougher class for people with Macs (like myself)
Never disliked someone through email as much as him. Seems like he gets joy out of not helping you out and will not give the benefit of the doubt, ever. Doesn't even have to grade anything because the system does it for him and he still doesn't help at all. Don't take him, you'll regret that you did.
The time allowance for the exams is a bit extreme. There are between 40-50 questions to answer in a 60 minute window. What is more irritating is that you get 2 attempts to each question; fine, but I think it's far more important to be able to FIND the answer than to memorize the finicky software. My work colleague were more helpful than Mr. Toole
If you like feeling incompetent or disrespected by a teacher this class is the way to go. Every time I talked to him I felt as if I was the dumbest human to walk this Earth. I wish this was an exaggeration but it's not. I had an issue with the software and tried to fix it myself before talking to him and he replied with the rudest email.
Overall, not a difficult class. Just do the work and you can easily get a B. He lets you use a cheat sheet on every exam so if you make a cheat sheet and do the modules then you'll get an A. You can exempt the final exam if you're satisfied with your grade. Never met him in person, emailed him twice and he was alright, nothing special. No late work
He gives you all the information you need and more. Solid guy. Course work is difficult to learn if you're not familiar with Excel, but he's willing to help all the time. Just make sure you do assignments on time.
He isn't that great at helping or being clear in his messages to the class or email. The system is garbage for the exams because to scroll around and actually think and try to find a answer it marks you wrong for going to another tab to check if the answer is there. Text book sort of helps but not as much for the exam.
A lot of people complain about having issues with the software this class uses for homework, but I was fortunate enough to not have any. Not a hard class by any means but not necessarily a snooze either. Just do the homework/projects on time and you'll be fine. I don't have an impression of Toole himself because I never met him in person.
Easiest class at Clemson. The practice exams are identical to the actual exams. Don't know why he has such bad ratings. The project instructions tell you exactly what to do, so it's not hard. This is one of the only classes that actually gives you real world skills. My internship was all excel and I had no idea how to use it before this class
Willing to help you understand what you did wrong or don't understand and if you put in the work you will do well and he is willing to help you. Great guy and professor! But don't blow the course off, you have to actually put in the work and if you don't that's on you.
The work and projects are pretty easy and help your grade a lot! The tests are really hard because it will mark you wrong after a few clicks of just trying to find the right tab. The practice exam helps which is something I wish I knew before I failed the first 2 tests. Even with those grades I still have a B in the course.
Stupid online homework and the practice tests are a joke. practice tests dont tell you the correct answers and tests ask VERY VERY specific questions that hardly relate to anything you actually learn.
honestly a tough class but projects are majority of the grade & you have two chances to get a good grade on them (after the first chance, it tells you exactly what is wrong) for tests if you take the practice exam, you should get Bs or Cs and you can still get an A in the class bc they aren't weighted heavily. just STAY ON TOP OF YOUR WORK
The projects are time consuming and extremely annoying. The tests are also very annoying in that they ask extremely specific questions. Make sure you study and do a lot of practice for each of the tests or else you will do poorly. DO NOT miss any of the projects or your grade will drop 5 points minimum.
This class was something I was unsure about with it being online, but he was such a great professor and the course was the most well organized online course I have completed. His instructions were clear and he provided you with all the tools to succeed in this course and add great skills to your resume.
About half of the tests are questions that you will have never seen before, and there is no real way to prep for the tests since the practice tests don't give you the right answer to any questions. He bombards students with emails (like one a day) and the projects take way too long. He will answer your questions on an assignment after it was due
This class was an easy A. Toole gave very clear and detailed instructions which is important for online courses. Definitely recommend!
This class was hard at first but it is super easy after the first assignment or two when you start to get the hang of it. If you put in the work and turn stuff in on time you will make an A.
This class is a joke. Super easy, but you don't have a teacher. It's all online and Mr. Toole doesn't do anything. Except he does make it a pain by having weekly assignments due at 11:59am thinking "his students" won't have to stay up all night doing work... He's not lenient at all, even though everything is graded by a computer, hence a proctor
I don't know why there is even a professor for the MGT 2180. He never answers emails in a timely manner, especially if it is a "dumb question", and I even had 30 points taken off a test because of a mistake in scheduling that he made. He is not a good communicator or professor, would take someone else. Tests and class work are easy if done.
Toole is a great professor. Many people said this class would be hard but its not. It is very hw heavy so if you do well on your hw and projects, tests dont really matter. I didnt make an A on a single test and finished with an A in the class because I did well on all of my projects and hw. I definitely recommend this teacher for this course.
An easy class for sure, just stay on top of your work. I would aim to have everything done a day before it's due just in case you have questions because the professor is very bad at responding in a timely manner and gives very bland answers (doesn't fully answer your questions sometimes). I felt extremely alone in this course at times.
Misspelled one word? You're getting an F. Mr. Toole uses an automated grading system that is unable to pickup on these simple mistakes, resulting in the program simply stopping the grading process and leaving your grade as is- even if it has only graded the first 2 questions. Mr. Toole is unwilling to grade these projects manually, so good luck.
Professor Toole with MGT 2180 online was by far one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. He is great at communicating with the class to make sure that you are always organized and on top of things. The projects and Chapter homeworks are so easy. This class was great to take because it is mainly just an Excel class.
Inaccessible in/outside of class. Gives no feedback. Not respected or inspirational. Avoid him as a professor and advisor.
Easy class if you just do the work and make sure that you don't miss the little details. If you have a question or there is a problem with one of the projects expect no help from Toole he won't answer emails or he will give you a rude answer that is unhelpful. But I would recommend the class it is easy and actually something that can be used.
You don't have any exams in this class, you just have homework and projects (which you get 2 submissions for). Professor Toole will help you if you have questions, but the class is an easy A if you are okay with Excel.
Professor Toole is great! We had a homework assignment and a project due every week. The homework are so easy but some of the projects were tricky. He had discussion boards and optional zoom where you could ask questions. Everyone should get an A in the class because its really easy and not time-consuming. Only downside is everything is due at 3pm.
Such an easy class! There's a hw and excel assignment due every week. There are no exams which I thought was awesome and it felt like what I wasn't learning was just to go in one ear and out of the other after an exam. Don't skip the assignment everyone should be able to get an A in this class cause it's really that easy.
Not a great teacher, but honestly I didn't need him that much. MGT 2180 is super easy. When I did have a question, he was super slow to answer or didnt answer at all but you can just google your question. Class was super easy and would recommend it
If you're looking for an easy A, take this class. Prof. Toole doesn't do a whole lot for the class, but he really doesn't need to. There is a project do every week and he always does a review before. If you stay on top of everything and get your work done you will get an A.
I had Toole for MGT 2180 and it was such an easy class. There's not much instruction but the homework and projects guide themselves, so if you put in even minimal effort you'll pass.
He really do not teach he just make you watch videos that is count for a grade and the videos teach you skills that you need for the projects. Every thing is on YouTube and if you follow the YouTube videos you will get a easy A.
I really didn't need to reach the professor much for this course. But he seems chill. The course has required unnecessary homework and if you slack off on it, you won't pass. But it was pretty easy overall.
He isa great guy and wants you to do well, he does email a lot though. No mandatory zoom meetings for my online class, just at your own pace. Youtube videos really help with the projects. Easy overall and a caring professor.
All of the assignments are online and his zooms are optional. He sends a ton of emails to make sure you don't miss assignments. He also responds very quickly to questions. You get two attempts for projects, and after the first attempt, the software shows you your mistakes. Basically, it's impossible to fail this class.
class is asynch. the prof isnt very easy to get a hold of but the class is stupid easy. there are video tutorials on youtube that teach you how to do everything step by step or you can google your questions.
He's always ready to help and super caring. Reminds students when assignments are due and will answer any questions you send his way.
Very clear about deadlines. Was not always the easiest to get ahold of. Grading system was more than fair.
This class is very easy. It's graded on a points system so you need 900 points for an A, 800 for B, etc. The simbooks are easy, the projects are on youtube if you need to be steered in the right direction and the quizzes are easy. Toole also has non-mandatory zooms every week in case you still need help. He's a great guy.
This is one of the easiest classes at Clemson. The whole class is just learning excel. It is self paced. The professor does not really do anything as you teach it all yourself.
Toole doesn't actually do anything. Once a week he posts 3 assignments for you to do and sometimes puts out an announcement about how good of a professor he is. He will not help you if you have questions and will not believe you if you have a technology error and can't get an assignment in. Class is super easy, just don't expect to have a professor
This class is easy but Ryan Toole is the biggest tool of a professor I have ever had. He doesn't do his job nor cares anything about his students. His one job for this class is to answer emails and he can't do that. I don't know why he's a professor at any university. Anyone with a computer and a IQ over 12 could do a better job than Ryan.
The course is easy, but toole makes it seem like the final exam is optional. It is if you don't want an A! He didn't specify that not doing the final exams would make it impossible to obtain an A. Why would a professor be okay with students not doing the final and purposefully getting a B? TAKE SOMEONE ELSE; THIS MAN IS NOT REASONABLE!
Worst teacher at Clemson.
He is the laziest professor I have ever had. A portion of your grade is based off asking and answering questions for other students. He complains about having to do his job in his emails. I feel bad for anybody who must communicate with him about any problems. If you can keep your head down and do everything without any problem this is your class!!
The class is all online, so there is no real interaction with the professor unless you have a problem. Others seemed to have an issue communicating, but the one time I had to contact him he responded within a day. The class can be completed as fast as you'd like, but is meant to be done weekly; 3 assignments a week on average.
On Clemson's website, Ryan O'Toole is described as a "Global Leader in effective online course management". This is far from the truth, as O'Toole doesn't do a lick of teaching in this Excel class, and is unresponsive and seemingly proud of how unhelpful he is. There's absolutely no point in reaching out, I would recommend using online resources.
May be the Laziest professor I have ever taken. Has setup the class to where everything is automated (grading/putting grades in the gradebook). All he has to do is be accessible to the students. However, he directs students to use discussion boards to answer their questions and refuses to reply to student emails outside of his "email hours"
By far the worst professor I have taken. This was an online class and he never once responded to a single one of my emails and it directly impacted my grades because of this. Avoid him if you can.
I took the class over the span of 3-4 weeks during the summer. I never interacted with Professor Toole but the class was pretty easy. The assignments aren't too tricky because there are step-by-step tutorials. Also, there are discussions where students can answer each others questions so I never relied on him for answers regarding the material.
I love ryan toole with my whole heart, I took his online MGT 2180 course last semester, didn't have much contact with him, this semester took MGT 2010 in person. He actually cares for every student, wants to see them do well, seemed genuinely sad when the class average on a test was below 80, provided many opportunities for extra credit. I LOVE HIM
I don't understand why he has such a bad rep.I took his class online. While the weekly project was time consuming, it was not bad. Every week you have a discussion (where you post 2 questions), a module, and project. The grading was a bit weird on the projects but 2 trys.He offers extra credit. I think this class is a easy A if you just do the work.
This was the easiest class I took at Clemson. It also taught me a lot of useful skills, but the course layout really sets you up for success, in my opinion. The work we do is exactly what's on the test. Not sure what people have against him, I didn't reach out to him a single time because I didn't need to.
He is extremely confusing in his emails, and does not understand anything about what you are saying if you have a technology problem. Also, he does not update the gradebook. I had a high B in the class, or so I thought, on canvas, and did not figure out I actually had a D until he submitted a midterm progress report.
This is ultimately the most frustrating class I've ever taken in my college career. I'm not sure what Ryan Toole gets paid for as he forbids us from using AI but, all our submitted work is graded by an AI program, that a lot of times, grades incorrectly. What does he do?
This entire class was just doing a training thing over excel then doing projects after. I wouldnt say theyre terribly hard, but if you have any technical difficulties youre out of luck. He does not seem to even read the emails before he replies and is typically of no help.
Professor Tooles class was incredibly easy. I don't know what everyone was complaining about this class was very easy to follow and the discussion posts made it even easier. Professor Toole also answered any questions I had, not that it was all that many. I would highly recommend this it was really easy I did work once a week for an hour.
This is an online course and it was very easy if you took the time to do the assignments and read announcements. Toole is very straight forward as in what he expects from the course and will give a lot of extra credit opportunities.
For sports entrepreneurship- He is a lazy teacher and I did not learn anything useful from his class, it felt pointless and like busy work. He would talk the whole class about random sports topics and alot of your grade is participation based, but it was hard to talk. I felt like my time was wasted . If you want a class just for easy credit hours.
Good luck getting a good response if you try emailing. You would think that an online class would have a teacher that is easily accessible by email but you would be wrong. The trainings are pointlessly long, and the discussion boards are useless. If you mess up on one too many projects, you are screwed. Do not take this guy if you can avoid it.
A lot of people complain about not being able to contact him, but I never needed to. Between friends, discussion posts, Youtube, and AI I was always able to figure out my issues. Annoying class to take, but doing it with friends helped a lot. Can opt out of the final if you have enough points. Overall, it's not very hard or terribly time consuming.
he literally allows AI, i would recommend doing the projects with a friend if possible, ur given two tries on them as well, so you literally can always get a 100, youtube always has at least half of the projects completed, if you want add ( my dc : opsyvfx ) and i could share my projects so u can look at what its supposed to be when finished.
This class is extremely easy. Professor Toole made the expectations clear, and he also offered a lot of bonus point opportunities. The structure of the class is the same every week and you can complete the assignments throughout the week. This class helps you learn more about Excel, so I would recommend it to anyone who needs to take it.
He was completely unavailable if you had issues, which happened often as it is a tech based class. I spent the night in the hospital on a night we had a project due, so therefore I did not get this in on time. He did not respond to a single one of my emails regarding the hospital visit. Terrible teacher and person, cost me a letter grade.
I honestly don't know why there are such low ratings for this guy. The class was extremely easy (I ended with over 100%). It's really up to you to do the work and pay attention. One training module, project, and discussion a week. Very easy to work ahead and you get two tries on the projects. Once you get into the groove of things it's really easy.
Professor Toole couldn't care less for his students. You do a project every week that's graded automatically, and sometimes, even when you clearly did it right, it marks it wrong. Whenever you email him about it grading your project wrong, or even anything really, he either doesn't answer or gives you some random answer not related to your email.
Great professor! If you do the work on time and follow the directions you shouldn't have a problem
Never responds to emails, despite it being an online asynchronous class where email is literally the only way to contact him. Do not take.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE. WE STARTED THE CLASS A MONTH LATE BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT TECHNOLOGY AND THEN HE RUSHED THE ENTIRE CLASS. HOWEVER, WHEN STUDENTS HAD TECHNOLOGY PROBLEMS IT WAS OUR FAULT AND HE WOULDN'T ASSIST. HE WILL NOT RESPOND TO YOUR EMAILS AND WILL NOT BE UNDERSTANDING OF ANYTHING AT ALL. i would STAY AWAY.
Respectfully all Mr. Toole does is make a class that should be incredibly easy more difficult. He is completely unresponsive over email in an asynchronous class. And if he does respond u can expect him to be passive aggressive and no help at all. Rather than helping to clarify things he chooses to make it feel like it's your fault for not knowing
Genuinely the worst professor I have ever had at Clemson, whether in undergrad or in my master's program. The MSSBA program can not, and will not be taken seriously as long as courses are taught by Ryan Toole. Lectures were pointless; he never gave us the textbooks he had promised at the beginning of the semester. No feedback whatsoever. STAY AWAY!
Honestly not sure why his rating is so low. I took the class online and it was straightforward. He was slow posting at first, but it all worked out. You get two project attempts, helpful feedback, and even extensions. Start projects early, and use YouTube if you get stuck. He answers emails but sometimes takes awhile.
Dr. Toole is completely negligent of his students even to go as far as to ignore their emails or get annoyed when too many students complain of having the same issue on an assignment. He is beyond unhelpful, though grading guidelines and expectations are clearly stated which I give him credit for. Do not take this class if it can be helped! Heinous
Mixed feelings about this professor. You are not being taught by the professor, you are being taught by the platform the class is on.But I think that is no matter the professor. You have 11 projects throughout the semester & they are pretty straightforward. He coded an AI to help out with these as well.He is hard to reach, and doesn't answer emails
This class isn't very hard it is just time consuming and boring. He gives you proffessor tiger AI to help with assignments because he honestly won't help you very much. He has only ever responded to one of my emails of the three I've sent him. Your grade is determind by points not percentages so keep that in mind near the end of the semester.
He doesn't teach, it's based on an online system, which seems great on paper, but the system is really outdated and doesn't work very well (it is from 2019). Echoing a lot of other reviews here, he rarely replies to emails, especially ones about the system he uses, bugging out and giving bad grades. Not my first choice, but not my last.
