Had Ryan for ENT 601 & was a blast.. lectures are basically a free flowing conversation and you actually learn more from this than from a powerpoint. He gives you all the freedom in the world to tackle your group projects and makes it clear as to what he wants. Literally put in the effort for your group work and he will give you an A
Don't get me wrong, Ryan is an amazing person and a prof. It's just that you don't really learn much in his way of teaching ENT601. You learn stuff you're not really going to use. His assignments are very vague and at times confusing. HOWEVER, he is very accommodating and an extremely good conversationalist. Just don't expect a good mark.
Go to class, participate, and do a good job on your assignments and you will get a good grade. The class is all group work, if you don't like group work then do not take this class.
Ryan is a great dude, he wants students to see how the real world is out there and not too much emphasis on terminology and material you'll see in other classes. ENT500 is in fact heavily manifested on group work but they aren't difficult ; yet he will notice if you put in the extra effort. Don't be afraid coming to Ryan with any concerns.
The entire course is group work and it is very easy if you show up and participate. No extra work outside of lectures or readings. Ryan is very nice and easy to talk to. If you have a good group you should get an A
Professor Wilock is a down to earth guy who listens to his students, and makes the course fun at times by focusing on things we are interested in. Make sure you do the readings attend and are ready to participate he expects it.
Ryan cares about his students and it shows in his classes. The course has some reading but the readings are worth it b/c the class focuses on discussion based on it. Ryan works things we like into his lessons which is cool. Call him by his first name or he will get upset with you!
Ryan is honestly one of the nicest profs I've had at Ryerson. He actually cares about his students and allows for creativity in assignments. His wife in the background of the Zoom lectures was funny and made class more enjoyable.
Ryan is an AMAZING professor! Take his class and i promise you'll have a fun filled semester. I always looked forward to his classes on Wednesdays. Ryan is big on group work and participation, that really helped with my communication skills. Shoutout his wife! She was in the background but made our lectures fun.
At the first class I wondered if this course was for me; i stayed and could not be more pleased. Outside of the material I feel that Ryan has enriched me as a student. He literally encourages his students to challenge anything he says. I have never seen this before. Loved his class; Ryan is what we need as a proff at Ryerson.
Could definitely see why everyone love him but to me he was ehh. I'm not in the entrepreneurial major so that might be why but the work he gives out is so vague and open-ended and then his feedback is also specific... but not really. He also "shouts out" the group who did the best and it makes the others who didn't feel like trash.
I enjoyed Ryan's class, he cares about the students. There is a lot of work to do in this class, most of it is in groups. One I did not like is that some people try to get away with not doing anything, I am not sure how but he knows and calls them out to their faces. I would take another class with him, Ryan is a great professor.
ENT500 is an interesting and useful class. Ryan's delivery can be a bit harsh at times (in lecture and over email) cause he's not afraid to call students out and doesn't put up with much. However, if you set up a meeting with him he's usually willing to help. Nothing in this class is done individually except the midterm which can be rough.
You have to purchase the license to 100 Steps to Startup to take this class. He actually knows what you have done in the steps, so don't try to fool him. I found that Ryan is a very good prof who makes things interesting. If you have a problem with your group talk to him, he will help you figure it out.
I am near the end of this course and looking for something else to take w/ Ryan (don't call him sir- "sir is his dad" he says). He brings the class together to have a conversation each week that leads into a lesson and then into a task. I like how he teaches, and how he cares about his students.
Overall this was a great course. Ryan challenged us to think of alternative ways to tackle problems. There is group work and group discussion, so participation matters.
I loved having Ryan as a prof. I loved not having to take notes and just listening to what he was saying and other stories. Everything minus 2 small assignments was group work, if you get along well with your team and ensure you all are doing your part up to par you can do really great in this class. He's also quite inspiring.
Ryan is a really entertaining lecturer, he doesn't believe in exams or textbooks, but we still had them because it was regulated. He genuinely just wants everyone to participate in class discussions and get a good mark from learning about real experiences rather than from a book.
Ryan is a great lecturer who applies his business experience to what we learn. His hilarious stories often connect to today's business world with clear and concise lectures. He's interested in our input and encourages us to participate through weekly, light group assignments and class discussions. We were only evaluated on group work and exams.
Ryan is a quirky guy who can be off-putting off the bat but overall he is a great prof. Has discussions with the class where he shares real world insight for an hour and a half before he sends you off to work with your group. Very clear expectations, if you do the work you'll get an amazing grade.
Ryan is my favourite teacher of all time. I think everyone should take his class. I was always excited to go to class because he made the course engaging, and unlike most teachers, he treated us like his equals and showed us a lot of respect. I miss his class. - Miranda
Very funny, very easy going. Didn't love that he didn't allow note taking in class, resulted in falling behind.
Amazing!!! The best professor I have ever had so far in these 2 years.
Ryan Wilock was very easygoing and gave work that was very relevant to the course. My group was not very responsive, but the work was easy to complete in a day or two: some discussion posts and projects but no tests or participation evaluations. Overall great prof was able to reach out on short notice.
One of the most insightful professors I've ever worked with and would 100% do it again!
"ENT 101" At first, you might get the wrong impression of him and be scared of him. But he is a GREAT man if you go up and talk to him. He gets really irritated if you don't listen to him (and he's right), but he gives good feedback on the assignments if you ask for any. Overall, he's funny.
I had him for ENT 100. He is good, I would take him again. He does pick out students to and asks a lot of questions in class. His class only goes for like 40 minutes. I recommend doing all assignments on time cause usually you get 100. Oh, you only get 100 or 0 on weekly assignments. Make sure you also do all the polls and don't skip any.
he's lenient but also gets worked up over the littlest thing like attendance, which for a course like this should not have been mandatory. get ready to unlearn every business concept you have ever learned bc this course will contrast everything
I had him for ENT101. Nothing really happens in this course. Grading criteria is not clear. Worst thing about this course is attendance is mandatory. Didn't really like his personality though he was funny sometimes. Overall prof is alright.
ENT601 with Ryan has to be one of my best classes so far at TMU. He takes the ENT material and gets you to apply it to real world things and your own experiences. I looked forward to this class every week and had a great group to work with.
Horrible prof does not care about students at all
ENT101 - DO MORE. Do not just follow the guidelines for the assignments, you need to make it interesting & over the top for a grade over 60%. Ryan is a decently funny guy with a hilariously overinflated ego. Don't even think about offering constructive criticism about the (very new and unpolished) course, you'll be met with dismissal and sass.
This guy loves to yap about himself. Unclear grading, tedious assignments, and he's just a very unlikable human being. His lectures are essentially pointless to go to because he never talks about the actual course, just random stuff that isn't even fun to listen to. I hear him talk about himself so much that I know more about his life than my own
If you think you have what it takes to produce great university level work, think again. As a first year, Ryan is a good guy, but has humbled me big time with his grading. There are tons of things that you're marked on; modules, assignments, participation, you even need to accumulate Tedpoints for marks. Key takeaway? Stand out and be creative.
Ryan was a cool prof. Course was absolutely horrendous.
He's like a box of chocolate. You never know what response you'll get from him. Whether that be asking for clarification or anything you'll either be greeted with open warm arms or just a complete bashing of "were you listening?". The TAs are hard markers, but he's kind enough to review your work and give you feedback on how to do better. Failed mb
ENT601 is a great class; I also had him for ENT101 and was looking for another class with him. This class is more in-tune with what this prof is about; 101 does not give the same experience. Be ready to read and to participate consistently he expects it and the class is much better when you do.
Better than Steve Gedeon, yet his potential is not being used. Having experience as an entrepreneur, I believe he will do great things with the course through more control. He's a chill guy, pretty considerate in assignment extension, but T.A. selection for grading isn't the best. I recommend taking Mina, because she seems easy, but Ryan's alright.
Took ENT601 w/ Ryan, and it is probably my favourite class so far at TMU. There are a few projects and some in class group work but you are given a lot of time to get it done. One thing that is cool is that he gives the students a chance to speak their mind on things we care about not just tell us what to do.
he was pretty chill in class. there's nothing to learn much in this course. he's definitely better than Steve.
ryan was an okay guy, he was usually pretty grumpy and not very approachable or easy to talk to. However, if you do talk to him he's (sorta) nice. But when it comes to explaining assignments or answering questions he is SO UNCLEAR so be ready to figure those out yourself cause he won't be much help
Gives very vague instructions
If you are looking for a bird course this not it. the lab class is where the assignments are explained and he tells you what you need to do. he says “dont give me words on a page” he expects you to make your work look good to get high grades.
Took it in my 4th year and I will say it has a lot of work in it some first year students may get caught by surprise by this class it is easy to fall behind. The best way to get a good grade is to go to the lab hours and talk who is teaching. I had Ryan and he was very helpful and easy to talk to, his TAs mark hard though.
Ryan was the only decent aspect of the ENT101 course. He's pretty laidback, but just don't slack off in the final group assignment.
great course, no exam, but very assignment heavy. Ryan was super friendly, funny, and usually understanding. He's direct and will call you out for stupid questions. Participation matters and make sure every assignment you do is aesthetically pleasing. didn't go to a single lecture, just most of the labs and that was enough to get a good grade.
The material in this class is useful and engaging, but Ryan can be rude sometimes. He has good days and then really bad days. I completely understand that professors have their own lives, but disrespecting students and talking down on them is not okay. Besides him, the class is very easy to get good. Just be creative :)
He always picks on students and writes passive aggressive emails to students.
I don'tthink this class is good for first year b/c of the difficulty and amount of work. The modules are a headache. I did enjoy prof Ryan and am in his 601 class now (way better class) i picked entrepreneurship as my major b/c of him. Go talk to him at the lab if you have questions.
I read stuff on here and was worried about this guy for 101. I'm doing it now and he is nice and just expects us to do the work. The quizzes suck, but you only have to go to class for 1 hour a week.
This is a big man and from 1st impression was kinda scary i was freaked out by all of his tattoos tbh. Behind there is a great prof and a caring guy if you try to get to know him. Come to class ready to ask questions. If nobody answers him he just calls someone random to answer. He expects you to be creative so don't forget that and you do well.
This guy is different.....he asked if anyone in class had a business 2 did. One selling tshirts and one cupcakes. On the spot he ordered cupcakes for the whole class for the next week and bought a tshirt for his kid....i love Ryan's class if you can, take it you will not be sorry.
ENT101 with Ryan's section is generally self-taught with online modules and assignments worth a large majority of your grade. His in-class lectures are more situated on providing information on oncoming assignments (If you're behind on modules). Ryan isn't unreasonable for University levels. His TAs are not the kindest graders.
as a 3rd year student this prof has to be one of the most annoying profs I have ever had in my entire life. The course content for all his classes is useless dribble. and he is a very hard grader even thought his classes are very receptive and boring. my advice if you need to take his class make a blood sacrifice to an ancient for help
Writes passive aggressive emails, has a lot of attitude. The assignments don't have clear rubric, every instruction in the modules are different. This ENT 101 shouldn't even be a class for first years. Bring back CMN 279!!!
ENT101 with Ryan is mostly self-taught through online modules, with assignments making up a big part of your grade. His in-class lectures focus more on guiding you through upcoming assignments, especially if you're behind. Ryan is fair for a university course, but the TAs can be tough when it comes to grading.
He cares about his class and students. Sometimes he can be tough, but you can tell he is looking out for you and is not trying to shame you. He also motivated me to be a better student throughout the semester. Would definitely take again.
The modules are the worst but I am going to be an ENT major because of Ryan he gave me the push to do it. His TAs are tough graders and this class is hard for first year but he was at every class to help. Fall behind and you are screwed in his class.
ENT 101 sucks because there is a lot of work. Ryan made it as good as he could but the quizzes and assignments can be tough.
The course itself wasn't too bad but very time consuming and honestly they advertise it as an "easy" course but you really have to put the effort in. Ryan makes weird comments sometimes that feel condescending thus making students scared to reach out. Not the MOST approachable. His TAs are also very very very very weird and unprofessional.
In 601 Ryan gave us a blank canvas and the tools to fill it in with what we wanted. There is group work but the individual assignment is where you have to take a shot. I loved this class and someone in our class won a $25,000 competition that he encouraged us all to enter! Take the class you will not be sorry.
Ryan was an extremely entertaining prof. Not one of his lectures was boring or useless. He would randomly call on you during his lectures which I thought was a good way of keeping you engaged. If I had one complaint it would be how some (not all) of his tas marking made 0 sense. Overall I would recommend him if you want a unique experience.
I wanted to crush this guy online then I realized he was giving me a reality check. Ryan is scary he's big he will get in your face but he is trying to help you. Talk to him about sneakers football basketball fashion and Justin beiber (no joke(
If I could describe this professor in a single word, it would be “cool.” His lectures are incredibly engaging and thought-provoking. If this professor doesn't ignite your creativity, nothing else will. Thank you, Ryan, for an unforgettable semester. I hope to take another class with you in the future.
Ryan Wilock is not a good prof. His ENT101 class is riddled with unreasonable rubrics and expectations. If you don't like your grade or if your confused about an assignment, don't bother asking for it to be looked at as he replies with sassy emails that make you seem like an idiot for even asking questions. DO NOT take course if not required!!!
Terrible class, this course is absolutely useless, the rubrics are not clear at all, and the instructions given in class for the assignments are different than the ones on the modules. Ryan is also not a good prof and can be very rude at times, especially when answering questions.
Did not like the class so much i think there is a lot of work for a year 1 class and the content takes so long and boring. Go to the lab class though that is where the assignment is explained. I would take Ryan for a different class he did the best he could to make the course good but the modules are trash
The instructions and rubric for assignments often didn't match up and were pretty unclear. His TAs are tough graders. Ryan was often rude and replied in a passive-aggressive manner in emails. I'd definitely suggest avoiding his class if you can.
This course was hard to follow in terms of the deliverables that needed to be executed for the group project. This prof is responsive via email but can be passive-aggressive and dismissive at times. Lots of tangents during the lecture, and no notes are needed. Just sit, listen, and participate (be prepared that your input may be shut down).
You have to go to the labs to get a good grade. labs is where the assignments are outlined and he basically tells you what he wants. The class is big and a lot of people don't show up then come and try to join the group presentation then complain when he fails them. The TAs mark pretty hard but you can talk to the prof about it.
ENT 101 is not hard if you do the work and go to the labs. Don't do the modules or go to the labs it is hard to get a good grade and so many people didn't show up to my labs. I had to do my group presentation alone but some groups didn't even show up to present which is weird. Prof is good I am going to take him for ENT601
I took 101 with Ryan and in class he said that 601 was his favorite class to teach and hoped we all took it. I am happy I did. Be ready to participate because if you don't he will just make you answer questions he says there are no wrong answers to cuz it is about how you see things. 601 is a great class take it with Ryan
I took ENT101 with him as my lab prof. The class isn't hard but easy to fall behind. Grades come from assignments and weekly modules- finish modules early to unlock assignments & get a head start. He's nice but very passive-aggressive, so most avoid asking questions, and his vague instructions (because he wants you to be “creative”) don't help.
seriously confused how his rating is a 3.9. has one of the worst "instructions" for all projects and dismisses you when you have a question. he goes on long tangents and then for group projects he cancels class for you to meet up with your group but it would be more effective to meet with your group in class as you can ask him questions.
I am on great and not awesome because I am not a fan of the modules you have to complete, they are pretty tough compared to my other classes. Ryan is a great prof, if you have a question ask don't assume or you will get a bad grade because his TAs mark pretty tough. I hope to take his other course next year it sounds really good.
horrible prof, this course is completely useless, all the profs that run it dont talk to each other before assigning stuff. I've never experienced such a useless course that was a mandatory for first years. I would go for Mina over Ryan W, but theyre both terrible. Attending classes is useless and they explain instructions in riddles. horrible.
this guy and this class is a joke imagine spending a grand to do ai generated quizzes and learn about "entrepreneurship" anything that comes out of ryan and steves mouth is a straight up nothingburger with no merit to it extremely unclear instructions on how to do assignments and when you ask ryan what to do he basically tells u to figure it out
Honestly one of the Worst professors I've ever had. He doesn't care about his students and is very passive aggressive to the point where asking questions is pointless as he's just gonna make a mockery of you. AI generated lessons don't even help you and are completely useless. Should not be mandatory with these teacher. Good luck with him
Ryan is complete jackass, do not take his class, he has lots of work load which is a very low grade but you have to complete the modules to unlock assignments. The assignments are unclear, he tells us to NOT EMAIL HIM and to read the Brightspace. HE WILL NOT RESPOND TO EMAILS. The class is pointless and doesn't even know what he is talking about.
- Very interesting guy, he seems to try to appeal to students, a little rude in lectures when you ask questions - Modules are... interesting, don't like the AI - Instructions for assignments are WAY too vague - Overall course material is valuable for the most part - Tough marks - Course tries to be "different" generally succeeds
This fat dude deleted my previous review so that goes to show you his character Ryan is a very unlikable human being he is rude and passive aggressive for no reason he will make u feel awful even though this class has no value to it and ur forced to take it depending on ur program I will say tho entrepreneurship is the worst bm major don't pick it
Ive never rated a prof before but I had to do it for Ryan. This man is genuinly a miserable person, he disrespects students in front of the whole class for trying their best, and embarasses people for not having answers or asking questions about his assignments. I cannot understand why the school retains him. Rates below ab classwork are accurate.
lmao he's deleting the bad reviews. hb u check your attitude and stop being rude to your students. no one likes ur class
imagine having a fat snobby unprofessional boss who hands you a very lengthy and convoluted task that you must complete in a very short amount of time and when you ask him what to do and for clearer instructions he gets really upset, passive aggressive, and turns into an actual manchild. that is basically what its like to have ryan as ur prof
My name is Watashiwa Ryan. I eat a lot of things. I don't particularly exercise either. I have one goal in mind: to outeat a certain someone.
The hate is NOT warranted ngl. You just have to be creative with your work. Think ab how you would look at it if you were grading the papers, you don't want to look at something boring and informal. I didn't get anything below an 80 and did the bare minimum. TA's are cool and fair graders. Pick reliable group members for the group project
I've never met a more ridiculous, miserable person before in my life. The coursework was extremely easy, TAs are super nice, but man, this guy is a horrible person to be around. He'll answer your question in the meanest way possible and god forbid you call him "professor". Work is easy, just do it on time. Otherwise, AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
His lectures are highkey useless, waste of my time, didn't really say anything, it was just guest speakers, everything important will be posted online or said by your lab instructor depending if you have him or not. He's kinda just there doesn't do much just voices in the back during lectures. Go to your labs, lectures are pointless.
Do not take this course if you are not part of TRSM; it makes it very challenging to complete the work. This course is also made almost completely by AI and is very frustrating.
DON'T call him Sir, call him Ma'am
One of the rudest profs you'll ever meet. Assignment instructions aren't always the clearest. CREATIVITY IS KEY! Weekly modules are annoying and difficult.
Ryan has a unique personality. He is laid back funny and reasonably friendly. The course structure is a BIG pain in the backside. The quizzes are not even hard they're just worded weirdly and very annoying. He really cares about creativity for the assignments submit canva posters and prezi presentations with visuals don't just give him a pdf doc
