As a prof, and a person she is great! I've never had a prof that put so much into a course! She was always willing to ask questions and go the extra mile for her students! Her lectures are always interesting and include examples we can all relate to!

She goes to extra lengths to make sure her students do well in her course. It's a lot of work for her tests but she does what she can to help and holds extra classes.

Superb prof. She's inspired me to do my major in Sociology. She really seems passionate about what she teaches. Honestly wants her students to do well Extra classes, rewards you for attendance, and is very approachable for questions. HIGHLY recommended!

She is a wonderful prof, and goes out of her way to help students. If you need help, or have any questions she will find a way to fix them. She even gave my sister one of her old sociology books when she was having a problem with the material. Very dramatic, but makes her point. Take this class!!

She is the BEST prof at MUN. After 4 yrs. I can honestly say never had anyone even close to her. She is very interesting lecturer and super helpful. Great person who clearly enjoys her job and in turn stimulates students interest in material. I actually loved going to her class (rare for me).

This professor is lovely, she knows how to teach and is like the mother for all first year students I believe, she's great, but does not sugarcoat things too much making it look like you don't need to try. If you fail you FAIL, but she does everythng in her power to help you out. great woman.

Definately the most helpful prof at MUN. If it's your first time at MUN, I definately suggest getting her as a teacher. She's funny and a great person. If you do your studying, you should get a good mark in her course.

She's a fantastic person and makes the classroom alive with her antics and persona. BUT her notes are all oral so you have to be constantly writing, which can get tiresome. (Though she does like to pinpoint exactly what the exam questions are) Do a bit of study and get the notes, you'll be fine!

This prof was awesome, she really cares about how her students do in this course. She doesn't write any of her notes down but gives awesome hints as to whats on her test. Test are fair. Pleasent lady, if you have her you'll love the course.

WONDERFUL, I had a heavy varsity basketball schedule and she was extremely helpful with arranging time for me to make up material that I missed. She typed up notes for me!!!! she is a great prof and is easily approachable. If you don't get a good mark in her class you have yourself to blame. Makes the course very interesting. Take her if you can!!!

Susan Ottenheimer as well as now retired Elliot Layton are bar none, the two most engaging and amazing professors MUN has to offer. If you didn't get te chance to elect a course with Mr. Layton, Choose Sociology 2000 with Susan just so you know what a professor should be, and entail.

Very clear, entertaining- not responsive enough to questions, but presents material clearly and tests fairly. She misuses the word "Literally" ALL the time..and it's very distracting, also is a little long winded on the personal examples, but a very good prof to get if you're in your first year or two.

Made the course fun and well organized. Always clear what was going to be on the exams. bonus work is very helpful. If you want fair marks this is a good prof, excellent discussions and explination.

Susanne is an AWESOME prof. She was verrrry helpful and actually cares about how her students. She has bonus work and her classes are very interesting. She has a beautiful personality and if you have the chance to get into her class I HIGHLY recommend her. It's amazing how she knows EVERYONES names in each of her classes. She's WICKED!

I ADORE this woman. She's so interested in how her students are doing. Her classes are really interesting, and there's absolutely no reason why you wouldn't want to go. She's entertaining and drops SO many hints for the exams. You have to actually try to do bad in her class. By far the best prof I've EVER had.

Very good prof, but not always objective. You have to pay attention to discern the difference between the sociology concepts and her personal opinions. This problem is only with her lectures, however; tests are usually based on theories and definitions, leaving very little room for subjectivity.

This professor is amazing. Her lectures are interesting, and she tell's a story that relates to the topic she is teaching. She is exteremly helpful, will reteach anything you need to know to you after class or at her office. Exams are easy, she will give hints during lectures so it is easy to guess the exam questions.

I can not say enough good things about this prof. She is amazing. She is super helpful. Exams are really fair she gives obvious hints in class about what will be important for the exam. Willing to meet one on one in her office to go over stuff you don't understand. If you can take her class you should! I got 80's in her courses. Go to every class!!

Professor Ottenheimer was the best prof I have ever had. I was really unsure of taking a class on Child Sexual Abuse, but the material was covered appropriately and thoroughly. The readings were interesting, and the lectures were engaging! MUN needs more like her!

Really great prof. I had a night class with her, which tend to be long and unbearable, but I actually ended up looking forward to it. She is very interesting, and makes concepts totally clear. I didn't think I would like sociology but now I want to do more classes just because she's teaching them! It's a good idea to go to class though since all her notes come from her lectures and she doesn't put them online. Tests are fair and the bonus work is helpful. The nicest, most caring prof ever! I have had her for Sociology 1000, Sociology 2100 and Sociology 4210. She is so helpful and is very clear on what she expects. She is pretty much the reason I started enjoying Sociology!

Wonderful prof! Took the night class with her. She managed to keep my interest for 2.5 hours. Expects you to take your own notes but is VERY clear on what you need to write down and she tests on what she has stressed as important in class. Would take another class with her for sure. Recommend!

By far the best prof I have ever, or ever will have at MUN. Keeps you interested with great examples and stories. Attendance is a must since she does not use slides and stresses what is important. Her lectures are so good I managed to get 90's with little studying! Get her if you have the opportunity!

She is incredible! I didn't do as well as I could have, but that was 100% my fault. She is always available during office hours. She responds to emails very quickly and really wants her students to do well. She knew my name by the second week of classes and says hi to me whenever I see her, whether it is on campus or off campus! STRONGLY RECOMMEND!

A phenomenal professor! If you go to class and pay attention it's nearly impossible to get a bad mark. She applies countless examples to the theories to help you remember them, and she's a great story teller! Can't recommend her enough.

A warning though: even if you leave class feeling like you understand everything she said crystal-clear (which you will, because her lectures were great and interesting), study a lot regardless, especially the individual study chapters. This is not a course you can breeze by.

Another thing I love: if you're the kind of person to raise your hand and shoehorn in your opinion to try and impress her every 5 minutes, she won't like you for the fact that you're holding up her lectures. Had to take the Tues, 7-9:30 pm slot. I was dreading it because I knew I would be tired. Her lectures made the time fly. She is very highly regarded, I've never heard a negative word about her from former students. She really wants you to succeed.

Easily the best professor I've had at MUN, the way she explained concepts and used real life examples made everything so easy to understand. She does not put anything online though so you have to attend class, which isn't that bad, I found the 7-9:30 night class went by quicker than some of my 50 minute classes. All of the tests were very fair.

Professor Ottenheimer wants her students to do well. She comes across as mean on the first day and had me a little worried but as you progress through the course she is the sweetest lady. Her tests are very straight forward and she lets you know what to expect in advance. Although the course is lecture based it is very easy to follow.
