Dr. Salih has many points of view and is very knowlegable on other cultures which helped me learn. He helps open your eyes that may be otherwise shut. A very good class to take.
easy on the grading and an overall nice guy.

This prof has a problem with American women. He's just a little biased so keep that in mind when signing up for his class
I thought he was horrible. Avoid taking him especially if you are a girl.
I think Salih is a great teacher. I feel like my eyes have been opened in his class. I have actually read books that interested me. Salih brings a totally different point of view to the table and I respect that.
Gives a very interesting perspective since he from Eastern culture. Easy grader, but can be confrontational with students.
There were only 4 papers and some small reading quizzes. The papers are easy and he is a nice guy.
Professor Salih is a good teacher, he explains everything really well. If you read the chapters you have to read you will pass all the mini quizzes and his papers are sooo easy. I def. recommend taking him. He made me very interested and I enjoyed the class

Wonderful teacher and easy to get a good grade in his class
Dr. Salih is the man as long as you go to class and show some effort he will hook you up
Dr Salih is awsome. He's got a great accent and it's just nice to listen to him speak! I learned a lot in his class. Do the reading and SHOW UP and you'll do well.
the worst teacher ever if i ever get another class with him i will drop it immediately
Big ups to Sabah. Always prepared, always insightful, always a good conversation about whatever we're reading. And a Simpsons fan. Take anything you can with the man and hope you don't get stuck with a Danny Robinson class. Non-Western Lit and Modern Drama are great.
Interesting books to read. Tends to just repeat what you read though, doesn't spice it up any. Make sure you read though, has quiz about every other day. Attendance is counted greatly, and you should try to raise your hand alittle. Only 1 paper due. 5-7 pages. Not too hard a class if you SHOW UP.
Dr. Salih is a very brilliant man outside of class, inside class he seems to dumb down what he really wants to say so that gen ed. people can keep up. Class participation a must, but he is very willing to help you if you go to his office hours. Good class discussion!
this is a great class. its easy as long as you go, read the material, and participate. he will help you with your paper if you go to his office. I would recomend this class to anyone.
Absolutely terrible prof. Learned next to nothing in this class. Class was a waste of my time! Learned nothing about comp. All we did was listen to him ramble on about Middle Eastern culture and we wrote papers on it about your "growing up experiences". Unclear on what he wanted the thesis to be. Do NOT take him, drop immediately!!!
are you talking to yourself or the class? it wasn't clear sometimes, much perkier out of class

The class isn't hard... as long as you pay attention, go to class and actually do the work and read assignments, you should do fine... but as an FYI... he doesnt wear socks very often, and some days isn't clear on what he wants to say!
very easy, gets off the topic a lot, but in a fun interesting way. Very helpful!
Terrible. Genetic approaches to text. All his questions (including the paper) are opinion-based. "What do you think. Do we act like this in America too?" Class has nothing to do with literature. He's a nice guy, but a VERY bad teacher. Here's some things he's said in class: "This story is a story" (Holds up a book) "This is called 'litteratur
Not a bad class. The readings were boring I thought just due to their nature and there's not much that anybody can do about that. He is a funny guy and does have a great sense of humor. The quizzes are "unannounced" but not really. The readings are pretty short and can easily be done in one night. TAKE HIM!!!!
Every book that we read seemed to be based on the same general theme (Americans aren't understanding and people in third world cultures suffer). If you criticized the work, you were immediately shut down based on the fact that you're an American and couldn't possibly understand suffering, even if your criticism was based on something else.
he is strick when grading papers but the class is interesting. The discussions are usually fun but the topics are alittle boring.
Any one who does not like this man probably hates every professor here at Bloom. He is hilarious in a cute way and the stories we read are short and interesting. He gets everyone involved and makes it clear he wants everyone to get an A. TAKE THIS TEACHER!!
This class wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. I mean the only problem was no one really participated. I guess they were bored out their minds. You're fine if you just do the reading. The quizzes and the final are basically to see if you read. The paper was just 4-6 pages. English majors especially should have no problem.
I took Non-Western Lit with this guy and let me tell you... we NEVER talked about Lit. The whole class was a joke; perhaps the English Department should audit his classes once in awhile and they'll see for themselves how unprepared he is for anything remotely resembling an English course.
Biggest pet peeve about Salih is that, as an English Professor, he doesn't promote induvidual thinking! What the heck?! If you don't think like he wants you to, he interrupts and cuts you off from talking! Assigns "lecture Leaders" readings but once you start presenting he will cut in and ramble on the whole time, what's the point? But hes helpful
He is a pretty cool guy, he would tell a good story from time to time, and he could make us laugh about different things. the material is easy to understand, the papers dont have to be that long either
Dr. Salih is a top-notch guy. I would recommend that you take one of his classes.
Awww Dr. Salih is soooo cute!! He may cut in and 'ramble' but he makes important points which he wants you all to know. He's helpful and definately clear on assignments. He's passionate about the literature he picks out, which a lot of other professors seem to have the "ehhh I guess we'll read this because I can sound smart about it" attitude
here the run down... you use a book called global cultures, each class you read a short story from it (usually like 5 pages). 1 person from the class does a presentation on the story. Other grades are a 5 page paper (any topic you like using the stories) midterm and final. exams are on material only, no interpretation. Read the stories and its an A
took for non western lit... twice. i wrecked my car and got the flu and he wouldnt even let me give an explaination on why i missed class. Then the rest of the year he would call on me just to make me seem like an ass. Then during my presentation hes started asking me off topic questions like if my father beat me. Would not take him again!
Ok i hope he reads this " I HATE YOU" let's see a guy who came to America 7 years ago is gunna teach me english. Unheard of right?? The class is like a history class, so boring and his lectures are retarded. Go teach in Iraq where u came from. 4 papers and a presentation u have to do. Would not reccommend ever!!!
Not hard at all, no tests/quizzes/final. You have to do 3 or 4 papers, he grades pretty fairly/easily. Nice guy, has some good stories. I'd take him again.
A little hard to understand. His papers have the same structure - allows no room for creativity.
Nonwestern Lit 1...would NOT take him ever again. Mysoginistic and unfair. He told me I needed to withdraw from the class because I missed three days, which is fine according to his attendance policy, and because I caused a "disturbance" when a girl knocked my water bottle over on me and made a mess. Also doesn't know how to actually teach a subjec
Haha wow and I can't spell... he is misogynistic, not mysoginistic. Either way, if you're a girl, you'll probably have a tough time because I have a male friend who missed 4 classes to my 3 and he sure wasn't kicked out of class for no reason.
What a cool guy. His only "flaw" is his accent. He was more than generous with the kids in my class. He grades pretty easily, but if you write alot he grades you better. Class participation isn't required but it helps. He tries to make the material interesting, even poetry. Best of all is his accesability out of class. My best professor so far.
He has favorites and if you are not one of those favorites watch out. He seems to favor boys. If you take this class be prepared to hear about how horrible Americans are for a semester.
Dr. Salih is awesome!! What are you all talking about?? I had him for Non-Western Lit 1 at 9am and NEVER missed class!! He is so smart and funny and has a lot of awesome stories! So helpful with your papers, there are only two and he cancels classes sometimes. AWESOME guy, I can't wait to have him again!!
He is knowledgeable about Non-Western Culture, which makes it interesting. The information is easy to understand. Two books required, and the assessment is easy.
He was very funny and knowledgeable. He was one of my favorite English teachers I've ever had. Didn't confuse me with a vocabulary I didn't understand, which was nice. Straightforward with what he wants, and gives a lot of examples in class, so the papers are easy. Anymore than 3 missed classes and you'll let you know that you should attend more
Sabah Salih was a great professor. Comp 1 was mostly a review of high school, but he definitely teaches some important grammar that I still remember today. I recommend taking him i received an A
Easy class and easy professor. There's one test, 3 papers (one is the final) and like 4 quizzes. He says attendance is mandatory but I missed 8 classes and still got a B+. If you have trouble writing take this class because idk anyone who got lower than a C on any of their papers. He's very nice and helpful too.
Terrible professor. He was so rude to his students and he acted like he did not want to be there. He puts down American culture and especially American men. Not to mention he puts down people for sharing their opinions (unless of course the opinion is shared with him). Horrible. How was he ever hired?
Dr. Salih's class is a great one to go to. There is assigned participation based on the readings. Class discussions can sometimes be a challenge because he cuts you off as you are sharing and interjects his own thoughts. At times he can be intimidating. It is hard to share opinions that he does not agree with. The assignments are moderately easy.
Easily the most worthless lit course I've ever taken. Salih has no apparent interest in taking his students beyond a surface-level analysis of the readings. Class participation is assigned, which hinders the spontaneity that makes other class discussions so enlightening. Take this class if you're interested in easy A's and regurgitating plot.
Professor Salih is a GREAT guy! His class can get very boring at times but he really tries to get to know his students and is very funny. He grades very easily. English is my worst subject and I received an A. Just do the work (which is not that bad because he goes over it so much) and you'll be fine! I can't wait to take him again!
He's a great teacher and a great guy. Funny too. I would definately recommend him.
Very passionate and insightful. Reading assignments were easily manageable. Connects themes in material to the real world. Participation is key. Does tend to stress one particular interpretation of material above others, but his expectations are straightforward, and he has a good sense of humor--his anecdotes are hilarious. Take him!!!
Sabah is not only a great teacher, he grades reasonably, he's hilarious, and overall entertaining. Without him, I wouldn't have decided to declare English as my major. Definitely worth taking a class with him at least once.
If you aren't open-minded about culture, religion, race, and gender then I can see why you wouldn't like this professor or this class. If you are open-minded, then take a class with him -- he's worldly, intelligent and has amazing insight about literature and life. I loved him and this entire course. Participation is key!
I loved Professor Salah. He always keeps class very interesting and makes it so everyone can voice their opinion. If you use his office hours your papers can go from a B to an A+. I would definitely take him again. Participation is key!
I took Lit&Society w Sabah and I'm not exaggerating when I say he was by far the best professor I've ever had. Participation is important because 99% of the class is group discussion. He'll ask you a lot of questions but values your opinion &will constantly ask you to further your responses to learn more what you have to say. Wish I could retake!
I highly recommend Professor Salih for any of his english classes! He is super helpful and always available for office hours. If you show up to class, and participate you will have no problem receiving an A!
Dr. Salih was one of my favorite professors here so far! He assigns one paper and one powerpoint that both have to be presented to the class. I handed my one paper in and skipped the presenting part and still got 23/25. He likes when you show up to class and participate. He is so cute and nice, very easy A for any of his classes!
Dr. Salih means well, but his class can get a little redundant. He tends to repeat himself a lot, but the material is interesting for the most part. I enjoyed the texts we had to read, but there is little room for creativity even though it's kind of a comp-heavy class. Hit or miss with this professor.
Professor Salih's class was my favorite out of all my classes. He was very very kind and willing to help. He did have a slight accent but made sure to pronunciate his words so the class could understand. He allows three unexcused absences, which is nice, but after that it counts against you. Its an easy fun class if you pay attention and read.
I would not take this professor again. For the entire fifteen weeks, there were only three graded assignments & a participation grade. His attendance policy is one unexcused absence & every other absence afterwards drops you an entire letter grade. He often acted as if he did not want to be there, and was extremely repetitive. Hard to work with.
The only rough part of his class was that my grade was only based on 2 papers and attendance/participation, and his attendance policy is pretty strict. Other than that, the class was a breeze, just read and be ready to raise your hand during class. He's a funny guy, very laid back and even if class could be a bit boring sometimes, he's pretty cool.
This professor is very helpful and accommodating. If you use his office hours you will you pass the class. You do only get three absences before it brings you down a grade level. Participation is needed and you do use all the books. He is the best comp professor that I have had.
only a few easy assignments, he is a great professor and is helpful
Dr. Salih is the sweetest professor youll have. Though he doesnt speak the best English and the course only had 100 points, if you read the books and take the notes that he gives you, itll be an easy A.
Prof. Salih makes it seem like he has no interest in teaching the class. At times it's hard to understand him. He isn't much of a hard grader when it comes to papers but you definitley have to put a lot of time into understanding the paper criteria and writing it. He makes you do presentations.
He is very nice. His English is a little off which makes notes and syllabus sometimes hard to understand. I did not know my grade until it was posted on my transcript. No clue how I was doing the whole class. Very few graded assignments with little to no feedback. He doesnt use technology. I think he just passed everybody who put forth effort
Prof. Salih is not clear about what he expects on his assignment. His lectures were so boring and I had no idea what was going on in the class the entire semester. He can also be hard to understand at times while hes lecturing. But if you do the bare minimum you will pass no problem.
He puts this option on you, lectured forever. During presentations he made it uncomfortable and humiliating.
Sabah Salih is the goat. My man is kind of boring sometimes but just go to the classes and do the work. He usually scares you here and there as he raises emphasizes words. Just try and he won't fail u
Up Sabah. I had three classes with this guy and hes the goat. Love from the USA. Go Sabah
If you read the syllabus and the assignments closely & show up to class, you will get a good grade. You DONT have to listen to him drone on about grammar (that you have known since middle school) for the first two weeks, just put your airpods in; he never says anything important in class. Write a good thesis for each assignment, and you're good.
Sabah Salih is the best professor ever. I had two classes with this guy, and he always brightened my day. There are very few assignments just make sure to do the ones he gives you well. Overall take this professor he is AWESOME!
I drink a lot of water and have to go to the bathroom quite often. I have longer classes and go once before and usually have to go once in the middle. As I was coming back into the class he said that I should not be going to the bathroom and that we were not in kindergarten. I have an A in the class and follow along I did nothing wrong. It was rude
His class was by far one of the most boring classes I've ever taken. Not to mention, he actively critiqued his students so harshly in front of the whole class while they were presenting. He changed the parameters of the presentations often DAY of. The way the assignment due dates worked made no sense-- some students got WAY more time than others.
With all due respect, Professor Salih is probably one of the worst I've had. I had to contact the department chair with a group of my classmates because he was treating us unfairly. He grades nonsensically, with very little feedback. He picks apart students' work in front of class. He is pretty harsh and snippy and his lectures are very boring.
Literally never take this class if you have social anxiety, even slightly. He openly puts you down during your OWN presentation while others are just sitting there awkwardly listening. He changes his rules on projects frequently and does not actually stick to what was originally on the paper. Definitely show up to class or letter grade deduction.
Without being rude, Dr. Salih is the most difficult professor I have ever had. He is not consistent with grading, and he is snippy with students when they things answer incorrectly. He does not give people a fair chance to answer questions, and will deduct points for participation. I have asked him for help multiple times, and he has not helped me.
Dr. Salih is definitely not for everyone. Majority of projects are presentations and he will call you out if things are wrong or will ask you questions you will most likely not be ready for. He's not a bad professor, but if you could get another one for the class you need i would suggest getting another professor.
This class was very boring and unfair to many. The professor didn't provide proper instruction or his preferred criterion for his assignments until after some students already presented. He would often criticize individuals in front of the class. Many students got extended time and additional much-needed information on the projects than others.
This professor is really passionate about his work and all you have to do is show up to class, participate, write some papers, crack a joke here and there and you'll be good! He isn't too rough about grading and wants everyone to succeed. I've taken several of his classes simply to have him as a professor again! Highly recommend to everyone!
Just attend all classes and you will be fine if you do your work and you can go to his office hours and he will help you make corrections on the assignments. Very nice professor and would take again also the book for this class was very cheap. But he does make presentations a bit awkward at times.
Dr. Salih was a good professor, his class is very boring though. He speaks very slow and it takes him forever to write something down on the chalkboard. On the other hand he is a very easy grader, if you put some effort into your assignments, go to class, and participate you will do fine in the class. I would recommend Dr. Salih
Old fashioned (not to mention tech-illiterate) in his teaching, but not in his thinking. He's a tolerant and worldly guy. Goes extremely in-depth in his lectures, which will really make you think, and is responsive outside of class time. Drops some crazy one-liners, too. All around a very nice person and a great professor.
Dr. Salih is seriously a great guy and professor. BEWARE: You HAVE to go to class. He grades based on attendance, and even missing a single class will lose you points (which there's not a lot!) His lectures are very interesting, and if you enjoy intellectual conversation this is a great class to take. He's also very accessible outside of class!
Be prepared to sit through a boring class with no information at all. He does not teach you anything about literature and just writes on a chalkboard the whole period. He gives you 3 assignments and counts attendance for a grade. There aren't any opportunities to bring your grade up if you do bad on one assignment. Brit lit II
Sabah is a very funny guy and a good professor, but he grades based off of attendance and participation. He also doesn't give out grades until finals. He's a tough grader so make sure your grammar is top tier. You can go to his class and expect a good laugh which is nice.
There are six reading assignments, you are only graded on three assignments total, and participation matters. Each student has a number, which was thought to be unfair to many because many students have an uneven amount of time to finish assignments compared to others due to their number placement.
