hard hard hard. know your french REALLY well before taking her class...she WILL embarass you in front of the whole class if you do something wrong on essays or tests.
DON'T TAKE HER... She is out of her mind. 2nd class you'll have a presentation!!! DON'T TAKE HER
Horrible, horrible, horrible. Bad teacher, bad personality. Avoid Loucif at all cost. Take Powell or Jean instead.
worst possible teacher you can possibly take. I would pay extra just not to take her.

Sabine is way too difficult. She admits to giving students grades less than they deserve. If you are not a french major or minor, prepare to get shat upon. She expects superb work, even from those who are not fluent and are truly trying.
This women is out of her mind! She's crazy, she once marked a question wrong, where its impossible to know, if you live in France. SHE'S THE ABSOLUTE WORST, SHE NEEDS TO GET FIRED!!! DON'T TAKE HER!!!
She is crazy with homework!! You read 7 books for this elective class. Unless you LOVE reading and have LOTS of time to do HW, don't take this class. Plus, you grades your HW, but you can just write it when she goes over it during class and type it up afterwards. Again, insane amount of reading.
if i can pay u not to take this lady i will. she is terrible. u will end up doing more work in her class than ur major class. it's not worth it. i was able to tell the kind of prof. she is the first 10 minutes of class. i dropped the class and am happy i did.
This teacher is brilliant. It's not her fault that 99% of the Hofstra student population is full of spoiled, slacker, ignorant idiots with IQs comparable to that of a bat bordering on mental deficiency. Sabine is an asset; extremely helpful, and shows you attention when needed. Not to mention fun.
sabine is WONDERFUL. she's bubbly, intelligent and FABULOUS. great prof - most hofstra students just dont want to learn. if you're serious about french, TAKE. she's great.

class gives me an ulcer...i like her as a person but...if you aren't fluent in french, GOOD LUCK
She seems like a really nice person, but her class practically gives me panic attacks. I'm trying my best and it seems like I never have any idea what's going on. I'm not fluent and there are two people in the class who are. They're the only ones not constantly confused!
If you can avoid taking this woman please do. She is an unfair grader, barely writes anything on the board, and spends most of the class time talking about how bad the administration is, and yet she's still here. Her tests are like 10 pgs of stuff she didn't even teach in class.
her tests are hard like woahh...the class isnt always clear but she's fair. she's also hilarious and very intelligent. i recommend only if your veryyy serious about french

She is hard, but only because she is a real teacher. Very intelligent, fun, witty, helpful, professional, open-minded. Hard classes but well worth the sweat needed for a good grade. You will actually walk out of her class with a feeling of accomplishment. Always a challenge, but a fun one. Hell of a good professor. TAKE HER!!!!
she is a hard teacher who expects alot from her students but she is very interesting and intellegent. dont take the class if you dont have to
This is an excellent professor. Tough, yes, but fair, intelligent, ingenious and nice. In addition, she is a very beautiful woman.
Oh mon dieu. how could anyone not like this woman. She is so intelligent, well read and entertaining. We spent more of our class talking about fun things than about the books. She let us go early, and she was not very particular about the assignments (as in when they were due.) Overall a GREAT person and professor.
smart and funny. This is not an easy teacher. Only take her if you enjoy learning.
Not only Sabine is a wonderful, intelligent, knowledgeable and funny professor, but she is also one of the most attractive and beautiful women I have ever seen
BAD class. Thought it was going to be interesting, it was horrible. She shoots down any interpretation of the books which is unlike hers (which btw, TOO MANY BOOKS). Don't take this class because you basically don't need it. waste of time. And she rips off your money by requiring dumb fieldtrips that she won't get covered by the program.
She's tough for the first couple of weeks to weed out those who she thinks are not fit for her class, and then after that she's pretty nice. If you do everything she wants you to, you should be ok, however, she's a tough grader and rarely gives A's
pr. Loucif is really great! Just don't get on her bad side or she will hate you!
Sabine is an awesome teacher but hard. She grades compositions leniently and allows make up sections to increase test grades by a letter grade. She wants her students to do well. Attendance is crucial in this class because she forces you to speak. She will not let you hide in a corner and will call you out. So french, so french.
She's a very BORING teacher, unless you love French culture (she's from France). A tough and tricky grader who is hard to please. She will warm up to the class, but always seems to harbor some inner coldness and resentment. She addresses the course work well. Wears low-cut tops frequently. She thinks from a French mindset, not American.
had to read five books and had homework due ever class. books are confusing and weird. there is no teaching just goes over homework. midterm final and 2 assignments. strict grader you wont get an A no matter how hard you try. AVOID you will regret taking her
She will definitely make you speak in class, but she isn't vindictive or evil or anything. I genuinely think that she wants to teach. I had a good experience in her class, although it was often awkward and difficult!
I do not recommend taking a single class this woman teaches. She is not helpful and bashes the work you do. No matter how hard you try she will find something wrong with your work including your own opinion. The worst mistake I made was taking her class.
I've taken her for both CONVERSATIONAL french and FRENCH LIT! If you're taking french convo, it will be AMAZING! Very easy, and she's SO much fun and is down to earth, you'll spend the whole class talking about life/sex/pop culture etc. French Lit is VERY hard though, I'm pretty sure any the negative reviews abt her are people who took that
I had Sabine for Conversational French, and it was my favorite class! She's very nice and though she may be harsh, you come out of her class a better speaker. I'm taking her again next semester for french lit, and i highly recommend her to any student who wishes to gain fluency in french.
Loucif thinks purely from a French perspective. She does not think like an American, so she comes off as harsh and is generally unhelpful. As a teacher of literature, she is completely useless. I would not recommend taking this class, the online option or otherwise. Online, specifically, she gives no attention to her students and teaches nothing.
Took the DL course in the summer. Very entertaining readings. If you read and do the assignments, you get a b minimum. She is accommodating.
Very nice professor. Everything is clear and if you do the work you get a good grade. Fun books.
I loved her. She was always really open and talked about anything and her cultural difference just made her even more funny and interesting. She treats you like an adult but is willing to help. The class isn't a walk in the park, but if you read the books trust me you'll be fine.
Absolutely terrible. She is so brutal; it doesn't matter how hard you work on a presentation, she will always find something to criticize and constantly interrupts. Plus, the books selected are terrible and she offers almost no help when you're trying to understand them. Stay away from her!
I took the online class. It was a breeze! Interesting books . Homework was reasonable. She gets back to you very quickly.
Mme Loucif is an awesome professors; she is so open to talk about any type of subject including that of sex; it's really awesome to hear her point of view as it is so different from what american culture has instilled in its people. You will be reading alot, 2 short presentations on a part of a book and 2 papers, not bad at all!
Dr. Loucif is hands down the best teacher at Hofstra! All her classes are very interesting and easy to pass. I couldn't ask for a better teacher!!
Dr. Loucif is a wonderful professor. She is incredibly helpful and always makes class interesting. The work for class isn't difficult, just do the readings and you're set.
This is a very easy-going class thanks to Dr. Loucif! She is absolutely amazing! The classes consisted of watching french films and discussing them in french. I would recommend this class to anyone interested in the french language!
Dr. Loucif is an absolutely amazing teacher! I learned so much from here. She is very open to the ideas of others and always helpful. If you need to take one of her class as a requirement or as elective, I would definitely take her!
I love Dr. Loucif! She is an exceptional teacher and would definitely recommend her. She is always so helpful and ready to hear your ideas. If you have the opportunity to take her you should!
Dr. Loucif is a great teacher!! I enjoyed her class a lot. She gave good feedback during our discussion boards to help us improve our literary skills. She responds right away to emails if you do have any questions. I would definitely recommend her class and if you need a distribution credit!
She is the most disorganized professor I have ever had. I had her for a class once a week and every day something happened that delayed the class. She also took several phone calls during class time. Her class was really easy though and she very open about everything when talking.
Dr Loucif is a wonderful educator. Shes very engaging and great about encouraging student participation and thinking. Shes great outside of class and very helpful if you have trouble with something regarding in class material. The class is guided through the students but this allows her to connect with the students in even humorous ways!
Presentation heavy class that depends on student participation. Three presentations and a midterm and final paper. Make sure you know what you are writing about and back it up. If you pay attention you can learn a lot. Overall was a confusing class that was disorganized but it was only once a week and we always got out very early which was a plus.
The class itself is not difficult, however, it gets frustrating when class is canceled so often. She is a great lady, very nice and she does cares about students, though, but it gets frustrating when the class doesn't meet all that often. It's so very diffcult to learn and retain information that way.
I loved her class. There is a lot of reading but they are really interesting and she explains it too if you don't understand.
Shes an okay professor in my opinion. I did my work and everything she asked for. Theres a lot of reading in this class so be prepared. Im not a great presenter because of my anxiety and she was a bit rude and said I didnt know how to read because I presented my slides too fast. She Criticizes everything. She became nice at the end. Easy class.
Loucif is one of the best french instructors i've ever had. She is clear on expectations and the tests are exactly like the practice tests. really chill class and will actually teach the grammar material. Ask questions if you have them, very nice.
Never taught. Despite being fully in person, all material was learned over VHL and rarely gone over in class. Showed up late nearly every day and spent most of the time on her phone. Waste of time from the walk to class to the hours of homework. Find another way to get the credit unless you're just looking for a decent grade and time to burn.
Honestly she's the only professor that has proven to care about students with the way classroom life has changed. I've started respecting her so much especially the past few months, just with the way she's handled student life and her classroom relationships. She's a really great professor and makes her courses relevant to current events.
Professor Loucif is amazing, she is such a sweet soul. She is very knowledgeable not only about what she teaches, but on numerous topics in general which she normally takes time to enlighten us on. She works with you, and once you put in the effort in her class, she will meet you half way.
AMAZING! I love sabine with every fiber of my heart. She is caring, will work with you, and is super laid back. Its super difficult to not get an A in any class with her she literally is the best.
Always willing to work with students. You have to present a few times in the class, but the guidelines are laid out and she gives you the questions you will present on far in advance. In one class, a presentation group had the wrong information and she let them re-do it another day without penalty.
You should definitely take this class if you are a French major or a Lit major. You should be ready to read and talk. There is no homework besides reading, and there are only 4 assignments in the whole class. If you take this class, do yourself a favor and read all the books according to the schedule.
Professor Loucif is a caring professor that wants you to succeed. She has humor and makes the class go by. The content may be hard to read on one's own, but each novel is discussed in class thoroughly. It's important to read in order to avoid a pop quiz. If the class reads, then each lecture is a discussion.
We read four books throughout the semester, and Professor Loucif showed incredible understanding of all of them. Her commentary on the more difficult or ambiguous writings really helped me gain a better understanding of what the authors were trying to achieve. She's also a very interesting person in general! I genuinely enjoyed the class.
Dr. Loucif is hilarious and absolutely worth taking! She discusses the difficulties in our modern world through the literature that are very engaging and exciting. I loved the course and especially enjoyed the presentations that helped us interact more with our classmates.
Prof. Loucif is a professor who encourages her students to speak their mind and challenge their beliefs. She WILL go around the classroom and ask each person their thoughts/opinions, so just be prepared for that. Uncomfortable topics will be discussed and tackled, but Prof. Loucif treats her students like they are her peers. I recommend this class.
Professor Loucif knows a lot about analyzing French text. We have tons of fun conversations about the books and experiences. She is very easy to talk to, and wants the best for her students.
We had to read 4 short books throughout the semester and analyze them. We had to do 1 presentation on a section of a book, 1 presentation on a certain topic related to the books, and 1 presentation describing our final paper. We had a midterm paper and a final paper as well. She is incredibly humorous, insightful, and tells us funny stories.
Professor Loucif is very funny and has a lot to share. There is a lot of reading in this class but the novels are discussed in lecture which clear up any uncertainties. Fair grading and fair amount of assignments.
Madame Loucif is a great professor! Her classes are less about learning and more about experiencing. She expects you to be well off in French by now and bases class on conversation and culture. Like any language class, there's lots of homework and participation is required, but Loucif is really laid back.
Professor Loucif is easily one of my favorite professors and I would take her again and again and again if I could. She really applies the class content to you as an individual and the class discussions are so worthwhile. I love her so much FR
The class was an easy A. Three presentations and two essays, but not hard. What we discuss in class is wild and not very connected to the assignments. She didn't seem to understand what goes into writing an essay as she repeatedly gave confusing and poor advice. Attendance is officially mandatory, but not checked unless for the rare online class.
Prof. Loucif is one of the more caring and helpful professors at Hofstra. Her grading is very clear and very lenient. She will do as much as she can to help you get a good grade in the class. There are some readings but if you just read and show up to listen, you will easily get a good grade. I would definitely recommend taking her classes.
Took her for a January LT. Lots of discussion boards; one final paper broken into parts which made it easier to handle. Grading is unclear because I put in a lot of effort but was getting 10 points taken off. However, she did end up giving me an A even though I got an A- because she said I deserved the A so: JUST WORK HARD AND SHE'LL GIVE YOU THE A
Criticizes everything and, despite being in person nearly everyday, she still made us teach ourselves. Waste of tuition money. You do everything yourself and in class all you do is presentations. Didn't teach a thing.
This class is pretty easy. The professor is very nice and often brings snacks for us. She grades pretty easily and you actually learn a lot in the class. I would recommend.
She is an easy grader who actually cares about each student. She gives a lot of gender empowerment, and breaks gender norms. I loved this class with her and I would love to take her class again.
Loved Prof Loucif, I would take her for every class. The books are really interesting and some of my favorite books I've read as an Engl major in college. She prompts really honest and interesting subjects that I would look forward to discussing in class, and her projects and assignments are challenging but manageable.
Professor Sabine Loucif demonstrates a masterful understanding of what is taught in class. She encourages class participation and urges her students to think critically and uniquely, even if she freely expresses her own opinions. I have benefitted a lot by being a student in her class.
Prof Loucif is extremely engaging and requires a lot of low stakes in class participation. If you are passionate about human rights and want to experinece some really cool french films/literature, definitely take her class! You will get great feedback on papers and projects and valuable in-class discussions. Take her!
Professor Loucif really cares about this class and the novels we cover. There are only a few assignments, and I found all the papers manageable. As long as you do the readings when they're assigned, the course load is really easy to stay on top of. She gives good feedback on essays and presentations, and really cares about having students succeed.
Prof Loucif is kind of quirky. Think like an art teacher in an elementary school quirky. She's very nice, however, a pretty fair grader, and loves it when you participate. The assignments are easy: two normal presentations, one final presentation, two mid-term essays that have to be at least 700 words, and then a final paper
Wasn't clear at all when giving us assignments, especially in the beginning. I was the first person to present in her class and there was no rubric, just a question. Turns out she had expectations that were never told to me in person or on Canvas. She gave me a pass but it all could have been avoided if she told me what she wanted to begin with.
Professor teaches valuable skills and is not a professor who hands a text books and just focuses on it. Teacher is very fair and class discussions are very interesting. You learn a lot from the professor as well as your fellow students which is very good.
Whole class is presentation based. Very easy but she takes off points just for fun with no explanation. Overall easy A would take again
Professor Loucif's class was very entertaining and I found that the topics were very interesting so long as you put in the work to understand it. Your grade is based on 3 presentations, 1 paper, and a variety of discussions. I really didn't think that the workload was difficult to manage and I would recommend taking this class.
Great professor, I loved the topics that we covered. The class was really unusual for what I have done at Hofstra so far. The civil discourse debate was great and it is something that helped me practice my critical thinking.
Professor Loucif is very knowledgeable and clearly understands the material she teaches. She can be a bit abrupt, but the class is fair. As someone who isn't a huge reader, I was nervous to take a literature class, but if you show some interest, an understanding of the works, and contribute to discussions, you'll be fine.
Her class can be intimidating at first, but she's a super kind and pretty lax professor. Every class is student presentations, and everyone does 3 presentations and 1 final paper. The workload is manageable, but her grading rubric is a bit unclear so try not to go first for presentations. Overall not a bad class, and I would def recommend her!
She's a very straightforward professor... I found it pretty funny. You could tell she somewhat has favorites, which isn't a bad thing. You're graded on 3 presentations and a final paper, there's no rubric to it, so just fill 'em with information. She has her students in her best interest, willing to give u second chances if you screw up.
Graciously, lenient professor. Manageable workload: presentations, civil debate, group discussions, final paper. Never participated; preferred to observe class interactions. Punctual and thorough completion of all assignment's correlates to an A+. Minimal number of readings. Amusing class discussions—hilarious, unfiltered students.
Overall just a frustrating class. You never get written feedback on assignments so you never know what you did wrong. Hard to reach outside of class. Students teach the entire class and the professor never lectures. You have to present many times and there's a long essay at the end of the semester that perfectly aligns with all of your final exams.
She's really kind and understanding. Her lectures are really interactive which are fun. Students do the bulk of the “teaching” and she expands on the points. Presentations are frustrating, she will interrupt and to say what you were already planning on saying. Class is mostly chill and fun. She's not very specific in instructions but is patient.
Dr. Loucif is very good. As long as you do the readings, work hard on your presentations and the civil discourse discussion, and don't slack off, you will be very successful in her class. She seems a bit intimidating at first, but she warms up quick. As long as you do your work and do well on your presentations, you'll be on her good side.
Good professor and course was reading heavy. if you need an LT this is a good class
This professor was great. A little unclear on instructions here and there. Never a rubric for assignments like I was used to in high school but overall pretty great.
Great professor, has a lot of interesting stories to tell. Would always take her again!
An easy class if you do the reading and participate somewhat during presentations. There are three presentations throughout the semester, and they're partner work.
Very straightforward and very simple coursework if you read the book - like her!!!!
