Deal is tough, and many didn't like her for that. If you want an A, you have to work for it. Go above and beyond all of her expectations. She asks for 3 things, you have to give her 6 to get an A. However, she knows what she's talking about and helps if you ask for it. Don't expect to be handed anything. She's hard, but I'd take her again any day.
She was not very understanding or flexible. At the beginning of the semester she said to expect 3-4 hours of work outside of class, but that work ended up in reality being 12 hours outside of class because she would assign 3 or 4 projects in one week all due on the same day. Very tough grader and very disorganized. Not clear at all.
Many people did not enjoy Deal's class because you actually have to work for the grade you want. It is not going to be handed to you. If you keep an agenda and know when things are due, it's pretty easy to get a good grade. I had to work a lot on projects outside of class, but I enjoyed it and I definitely learned a lot more about advertising.
Deal is a professor that demands a lot of you inside and outside of class. She assigns a lot of projects (mainly group ones) and if you do not budget your time outside of class wisely, good luck. This professor does not welcome questions when she is stressed but can give good feedback if you catch her at the right time. Show that you put in effort.
This is by no means an easy class, but its possible to do well if you go above and beyond her expectations. Doing the bare minimum of what she asks will get you a C. She is very nice, and always willing to help in anyway she can though. She also gives great feedback if you ask for it. She just has high expectations thats all.
This is not an "easy" class, but I do feel like I learned a lot. You for sure will need to put in some work outside of class to get an A on your stuff, but she does give fair warning in the beginning of the semester so you cant really be caught off guard. Quizzes are open Book! She is really nice and a class worth taking (if you have the time).
Deal's class is a challenge- many don't like it because it's hard, but I learned so much. She offers an extra credit project that adds 3 points on your final grade. She's forward with her expectations and that class will be a lot of work. She is very nice too and tries to make class more enjoyable by asking fun questions everyday. Quizzes are easy
Deal is very upfront and clear with the expectations of her class. She is very organized and her class is set up well. There is a big group project that counts for a lot of your grade but she guides you on how to make it how she wants. She has one extra credit opportunity but you have to pay for the program or do it on campus.
Professor Deal is probably my favorite professor I've had. She's a wonderful person and makes you work for your grade. There are a lot of group projects but she helps out in any way she can and gives you a lot of in-class work time. Make sure you manage your time and go above and beyond to do well in this class.
She has decent reviews in the 3110 class, but DO NOT take this class. Yes, it is online, but the in-class version is also tedious. This class is supposed to be taught at a "beginner" level, but she expects WAY MORE than a beginner can provide in terms of projects. There are about 7-8 things due each week, AND she wants them done in a particular way
You can get through this class, but you won't gain anything from it. She makes you work for your grade with lots of busy work and tests that don't correspond with her lectures/book material. I would avoid taking her again because I feel like she didn't teach me anything.
I had the most work to do outside of class in it even though it was only once a week for 2 credit hrs. She doesn't teach graphics, you learn it by online tutorials outside of class (barely), and then you're expected to come up with designs. Tests were mainly online, open notes. Can only skip once, tophat heavy. Not a hard class, but wish I learned.
I usually am not one to only focus on the negative but oh my gosh: this class was so pointless. She does not teach you how to use graphics, you learn InDesign and Photoshop through an online video. Quizzes were so hard. She is a nice lady, but as far as actually learning and feeling confident about the material, no way.
This class was honestly really boring. Everything you do is online, she goes over slides in class but that's it. You're also put into random groups and you have to sit with them all semester. You do two online courses to learn InDesign and Photoshop which are boring and take forever. However, she is very nice and cares for her students.
Graphic Comm is one of the worst Grady classes you have to take. Deal is incredibly nitpicky about things like laptop usage (in a graphics class?) and attendance. Her lectures are also pretty dull. It is such a long class period, but half of it is wasted by stuff that isn't necessary. Overall, very frustrating.
This class was such a waste of time and became 100% more enjoyable once it transitioned to an online class bc of corona. Lectures are 2 hours long and pointless yet mandatory attendance. You will not learn how to use photoshop or indesign from this class. Very frustrating. However, Deal has very clear grading expectations and getting an A is easy.
Professor Deal is a good person. But I do not like her as a professor. There were times where I felt looked down on. A thing that angered me was she gave me a 96 on my final project and took points off because I didn't include something when I did. But then she said she wouldn't explain her reasoning. I got an 86 in attend even tho I went to class!
Mrs. Deal was the only teacher who's classes I actually enjoyed at UGA. I've taken 3 of her classes and loved every one. Brand Storytelling is super easy and mostly group project based. And her two graphic design classes are super fun and you will genuinely learn something relevant to a future career in advertising. Best professor ever!!
She's pretty tough with grading, I'll give her that. Otherwise, I enjoyed the class and didn't think it was that challenging.
I was a little anxious with Professor Deal because of her rating here, but after taking her class my opinion of her has changed. She is a good teacher with straightforward content for the class with pretty clear instructions. She had an organized schedule each week for what we had to do and turn in as students. Overall, great experience with her.
Personally, I don't feel like I'm leaving the class with any more understanding of the topic than I did when I started. Lots of busy work, but the class and the expectations are laid out in an organized way. Don't expect to be an InDesign or Photoshop pro after this class. You're kind of on your own the entire way through.
worst teacher. have not learned anything. does not teach. so much busy work.
This class was worse than the Hindenburg disaster. Had very few grades before the withdrawal date. Finally got most of my grades a few weeks BEFORE THE COURSE ENDED. Projects lack clear instructions. This course had potential to be very helpful. Unfortunately, it was more stressful than helpful.
umm soo hahaha shes the absolute worst. The most busy work ever. 11+ hour videos and completing assignments with them. the software costed $20 a month and the $40 to cancel the subscription once the class was over. on top of that she was a tough grader and just wanted to fail you. i did not spend $120 and 5 hours a week watching videos to get a B-
I honestly have no idea why this prof's rating are so low. Yeah it's a lot of busy work and all of the assignments are incredibly simple but isn't that okay? She doesn't require you to come to class at all and is always super nice when emailing. If you want an easy A and interesting graphic design class, this is it!
I was genuinely excited to take this class but Mrs. Deal made it very clear that the LAST thing she wanted to be doing was teaching this course. Ruined it. Didn't grade anything until the last 2 weeks of class and sent a rude email to students saying she would not answer any questions about final grades. Just quit??? If you hate your job so much?
Grading was subjective and not fair. Ive never taken a class and felt so dismissed before. If grades were actually posted before the withdrawal date I would have withdrawn in a heartbeat. Unfortunately we didnt get most of our grades until the very end. I do not recommend this course to anyone.
literally the worst professor I have ever had. She is incredibly nit-picky on her grading and will fail you if you do not go digging through the 5,000 separate places that she puts different requirements for her assignments. attendance isn't mandatory bc she doesn't teach and expects you to just know things for the quizzes that she has not covered
Professor Deal is nice and I didn't really have a problem with her grading. I also really liked the fact the class was not mandatory to attend and all the lectures were posted online. Honestly, attending seemed like a waste of time because she did not lecture in person. It was mostly just going over examples.
Mrs. Deal's class is very straightforward. Apart from the weekly assignments, there are two open note quizzes and you have to attend about half of the classes. The LinkedIn learning is lengthy but super helpful if you are interested in graphic design. I loved this class, it is an easy A if you are willing to put in the effort.
I liked Professor Deal. Graphics can be kind of intimidating and she's good at not making these projects and assignments seem scary. The tutorials you are required to watch are actually helpful and I left the class feeling like I knew at least the basics of Photoshop and Indesign. Nothing is super difficult, just required some time management.
Professor Deal really does seem knowledgable, but makes it very clear that she couldn't care less about this class. Extremely hard to reach outside of class and can be passive aggressive at times. Super strict on attendance for a class that is almost entirely independent work through LinkedIn Learning-her lectures are irrelevant and unhelpful.
She is just mean honestly, everytime a student asked a question she had an attitude. It made for a very hostile learning environment where people were afraid to ask questions. Most people have to take it and she is they only professor for it so just be warned.
She is a nice person, I always pestered her with questions but she never made me feel bad for asking questions. Yes her classes take up all of your free time but I believe most classes in this department do this.
Ms. Deal responds to students passive-aggressively. Multiple times I've heard people confused about the same instructions. When asked for clarification, she responds with a condescending tone. When the majority of students in a 300-person lecture are confused, she does not take the blame for their confusion. I am scared to ask any questions.
She is super unhelpful and when you ask genuine questions gives you sarcastic responses instead of helping
Since ADPR majors have to take this class, I'd recommend showing up because participation is 40% of the final grade!! There are a lot of in-class assignments and activities. The big assignments, which are the Photoshop & InDesign certificates, are also a lot of the final grade so make sure you start them before the deadline (they take a long time)!
Prof. Deal hypes up her extensive education in graphic design and then proceeds to assign the biggest assignments via LinkedIn learning for another educator to teach us. Attendance is mandatory for whatever reason, even though she will have us show up for 20 mins when she says unimportant information that could've been saved for an email.
Honestly this class isn't that hard, but Professor Deal is just not a super understanding professor and relies heavily on linkedin learning courses to teach things that she should be demonstrating in class. Also, she uses tophat pro so attendance and in class participation is counted for a grade.
This class was my absolute least fav class I've ever taken in college. Don't expect to learn anything from this class, she puts you in useless groups for unrelated projects. If you have any graphic design experience this class will be the ultimate waste of time for you, you won't learn a thing. The class structure is awful too with no clear layout.
This woman is so concerned with the class doing things "her way" that tends to spend more time on disciplinary measures than actually teaching the class. If you put as much effort into this class as this teacher does teaching, you will fail. A lousy experience and I hope UGA gets the opportunity to remove her before she becomes a tenured leach.
It's hilarious how poor someone can do at their job and keep it. This class taught me I have nothing to worry about in the professional world. Teaching is mid, he attitude is sub=par, and make sure you don't allow her to use your work in her portfolio.
Deal made her class miserable to be in: There is no other way to put it. BUT, if you have no other option, there is a key to doing well: Don't skip class, check every possible location for assignment directions, & make friends you can rely on. She will make you feel small & incompetent, but trust that is a reflection of her teaching and not you.
I was excited for this class but she made it miserable and I learned nothing. It makes me disappointed in Grady College. At such a highly-ranked university, I can't believe they let her be so disrespectful. She had unclear directions. This was the most awful experience I've had, and that's saying something considering I used to be a STEM major.
I was excited for this course, only to be taught by Linkedin Learning (not well) and dropping like $300 for this course alone. Deal is extremely condescending and rude. she WILL publicly embarrass you for asking a fair question. Show up and get the online courses done and you'll get a good grade, but you won't enjoy it. super disappointed.
Most of the information on the quizzes is something she mentions once during the lecture and can't be found on the slides. Her ELC is confusing, and she doesn't provide supplemental materials for lectures to help you understand the concepts. She is rude to students who ask questions so I never asked any because I didn't want to be embarrassed.
Frustrating because I was SO excited for this class- but lectures have no substance and she berates those who ask questions. I wish she would teach us Photoshop/Indesign instead of LinkedIn learning doing it. She as an individual can be pleasant to talk to but for some reason she is rude in group lecture settings. This class has so much potential:(
I was really excited for this class but found myself kind of bored. Deal kind of teaches like a Kindergarten teacher, making me feel kind of stupid. The ELC page was also insanley difficult to naviagte. The class was pretty simple and easy, just taught poorly.
I was excited to learn the Adobe platforms. Sadly, this class was a chore and not a learning experience. Overall, Mrs. Deal is lazy in her teaching methods and doesn't seem to care for her students. One of the most condescending and passive aggressive teachers. I don't think teaching is for her.
Professor Deal did not seem to care about her students, at all. She did not give us the time of day, whether that be by being passive-aggressive in person or not replying to emails. Heavily attendance-based. Miss class because you're super sick? Fail. 7 hour videos for homework. Fail for using the wrong color text. Don't take if you don't have to.
Mrs. Sabrena was a good prof, even tho she gave us sooo many assignments. It's an easy A if you do the work. However, she is very picky. One day she made the whole class stand up to make sure we were all awake during a guest speaker. As long as you show up and do the work, you'll be fine. She uses TopHat for attendance and participation. 3 quizzes.
These reviews are dramatic. Class is stupid easy, teaches you basic design and even helps you start your portfolio. Linkedin Learnings are tedious but if you time manage you can do it just fine. Only thing I agree is she is snarky with her responses, but overall shes sweet. Annoying part is attendance is very strict, but overall a chill class
Ms deal is a nice person but her lectures don't feel like they have much substance. I didn't learn much from this class but is was very very easy. She would be an amazing elementary school teacher because she often unnecessarily oversimplifies topics or will talk about a simple topic for one whole hour.
Great and nice person but her lectures seemed super elementary and entire units were taught on LinkedIn learning instead of lectures. Attendance mandatory but going to class sometimes felt pointless. Super particular about assignment submissions but random assignments were scattered across ELC and TopHat that weren't listed before. Ignores emails.
She was really nice and the class was super easy. Chill class, I just didn't like that there were a ton of small assignments that would pop up that weren't listed on ELC before, causing everyone to miss a few assignments.
I really enjoyed Deal's Brand Storytelling class. She is knowledgeable and excited to teach the content and is very personable. The group campaign project was not the easiest but I got a lot from it and it was overall a fun project. All the other assignments are pretty easy as long as you keep up with the due dates!
I've had Prof. Deal for several classes, and she is truly a unique individual. She's really sweet when you get to know her, but she also has this really hard mean side that comes out of nowhere sometimes. She's a good professor and cares about her students, as long as you stay on her good side
She gives zero direction and the project was graded very hard. The entire class was confused. She posted a question discussion post on elc where other students answer your questions instead of her. She did not give a care in the world. I asked her a question in person and she was stand-offish. My whole group agreed the she was rude. Avoid.
The lack of organization and communication in this class is outrageous. Assignments are very heavy and time-consuming and lectures are mandatory, but I learned absolutely nothing from going to class. Professor Deal is very vague when answering questions and giving directions and will never give a straight-up answer. Avoid her if you can.
While some assignments were tedious I thought overall the course was easy. The ELC was disorganized which made it difficult to check for assignments and deadlines. The rubrics were clear and the grading was fair. The class content felt useless to learning skills we needed for the homework and I ended up teaching myself outside of class.
Her class is too disorganized for my liking. There are a lot of group projects (she assigns the group). The syllabus is not helpful. She adds random assignments throughout the week. She relies heavily on LinkedIn Learning and Top Hat. There are a few test and as long a you follow her instructions you will do great on her assignments.
I thought Prof. Deal was a decent lecturer. However, everyone is right when they say the class is disorganized. I'm very type A in school and put due dates into my calendar as soon as I get a syllabus, but hers did not specify anything. I like to plan ahead, so the random projects that were dropped in the middle of the week stressed me out.
Really not that bad. The TA grades super quick, work is lengthy but easy, and PLAs give great advice.
Professor Deal was very disorganized, which I really didn't like. Random assignments get thrown at you with no warning, and her attendance policy is strict, which would be fine except TopHat has so many issues that it sometimes will count people absent when they were in class. She's very nice just very disorganized.
Prof Deal was good in some ways and not good in others. I enjoyed the material of the class and liked the lectures and structure of the class. Yes, she can be "disorganized" by assigning random assignments, but it's really not that big of a deal. The random assignments are easy and she tells you in class. If you have to take her, she's not that bad
It's crazy that attendance is mandatory when the lectures have so little substance. Incredibly vague and passive aggressive. AVOID!!!
Sabrena is a very nice person. However, she is VERY disorganized and relies on AI to teach a lot of the things she should be teaching. Attendance should not be mandatory for this class. We are "taught" the important things through LinkedIn Learning, which, once again, is not why I'm here. Don't take if you don't have patience for disorganization.
She's nice and somewhat understanding as I was often unwell and she was concerned about my wellbeing, but she's also very passive aggressive (said she'd tell groups to leave class if they didn't have materials in on a certain date and it felt out of nowhere). Her support doesn't feel genuine and her in-class activities feel disorganized.
The most disorganized professor. Overly relies on AI, and will spend entire class periods having us play with AI rather than just canceling class. Attendance is mandatory but should not be, 99% of what she teaches is basic, obvious knowledge. Pretends to be approachable, but won't answer emails, and passive aggressive. Avoid at all costs.
These reviews are pretty harsh. If you have to take her class you will be just fine. She is very nice but I do agree that she's very unorganized and a bit elementary in the way she talks to us. For being a design prof I think her instructions, syllabus, and ELC was messy and unclear and her instructions were really confusing most of the time.
She's a tough grader and will add in random assignments in the middle of the week. As someone who plans out my semester from the syllabus this was a little annoying, but some people may not mind. I learned a lot from the group project and she really cares about her students. She's interested in learning about you as a person and your career goals
actually is so annoying, treats every student like they are in the third grade and is so passive agressive. avoid at all cost.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER
terrible. actually terrible.
Nope. Just nope.
This professor actually made an easy class extra difficult for no apparent reason.
I have had her for three semesters in a row, and each one was worse than the last. Her classes are very disorganized, and you don't learn much in class. You end up doing all of the work outside of class, but attendance is mandatory. You also end up spending a lot of money to print the final project. This class was a waste of time and energy.
She was a nice professor, but just a little unorganized. Her class was super easy, and I enjoyed the content. As long as you do the work and do it on time and go to class, you'll be just fine!
Literally just don't - I would rather wait a semester than take this class. Treats every student as if they are 2nd graders, WE ARE JUNIORS/SOPHOMORES IN COLLEGE. Bored to tears, incredibly unorganized, only work in groups. just don't take it with her. I actually am so happy to be done.
DO NOT TAKE HER! Whatever you do, just don't take her. She treats us like we are in kindergarten; it is actually the most annoying thing in the world. I have dreaded every Tuesday and Thursday this semester because I have to listen to her. Her grading is so unclear and she is so unorganized. She teaches NOTHING important to anything we do in class.
This class was easily one of the worst classes I have ever taken because of this professor. It was extremely disorganized and she treats her students like we are in 5th grade. We didn't learn anything in class and had to complete certificates through LinkedIn learning by ourselves. Avoid this class at all costs.
treated everyone like they were in kindergarten. Makes class mandatory, but then doesn't do anything. Would rather do anything than cancel class, multiple times we would be in class for 5 minutes or she would be on zoom after everyone drove to campus at 9 AM. The material isn't hard, but she doesn't teach anything.
Deal gets an unnecessary amount of hate. Her class will help you build your portfolio, even if it seems tedious, and she is helpful where able. She will not give you an A without the work to back it up, but she is fair with grading to the amount of effort you give. Class activities are fun, and you get to know your classmates because of them.
The material was all conveyed very clearly and all of the assignment instructions were clear. Attendance policy is frustrating, but lectures were mostly pretty helpful. You are given plenty of easy a's in the class so as long as you show up and mostly pay attention, you will do fine. Not the best teacher at UGA but far from the worst.
she's overhated tbh. class is very easy. she's a mansplainer in a women's body. other reviews are true about being unorganized but overall, not the WORST. i wouldn't avoid her necessarily for 3515 if you're fine with being bored. nyt games and shopping got me through this class.
