Great Professor! His real world industry experience is very helpful.
I took Sachel's class at UND and he is a great teacher. He is a good designer and good teacher of design.
Had Sachel Josefson as a professor at University of North Dakota. Great Teacher!
Sachel is a Good Teacher; if you don't frustrate him. He honestly takes his frustrations out on his students and does way too much wasting time Especially with useless group work. But! He is crystal clear and very helpful; Sachel really cares about his students even though he is unorganized. but hey; it's his first year back at BSU.
This course structure was poorly planned out. Spent the first month and a half reviewing fundamentals of design. Packed 4 projects into the last half. Sachel is often rude to students. He often does not give (clear) feedback in a timely manner so there is no way to improve during the class.
This course was challenging, but I learned more about what exhibit design is in this class than the 2 previous. Sachel is a great teacher. He is knowledgeable of the subject and really challenges you to think through things.
I really enjoyed this photography class. Sachel did an amazing job setting up the course and making it fun and interesting. He put together some really good projects that allowed me to be really creative. I think he is a very upbeat and positive professor.
It was easy to tell that he was passionate about exhibit/tradeshow, but the class was poorly executed and badly timed. He often made unprofessional comments and seemed as though he was trying to hard to be 'a friend' rather than a professor. Had favorite students and often held his 'power' over peoples' heads. My least favorite design professor.
Willing to help you learn the concepts
Teacher is confusing, Does not plan class. Comes unprepared but expects us to be prepared. Puts more work load than is possible to finish without not having a job and not sleeping. Asks for more than needs, Doesn't help when asking for help just gives a run around.
The course was clear to follow. It was easy to ask for help if I had difficulty doing something or needed something.
I didnt learn anything from his course. He never gives feedback to normal students, except those he likes best. All we had was endless projects. Super ridiculous...
Its evident Sachel cares about his students. He has a lot of passion for his industry and education. The curriculums for each exhibit Class are non existent. We get thrown into designing tradeshows without understanding what they are. There arent lectures teaching you the different aspects in a tradeshow exhibit design. You just have to guess.
He wants you to participate and be present. The projects are hard, so be ready.
He has an positive outlook.
He is super fun and made class enjoy. the projects were fun and made sense for the class.
Great overall, especially since this is the first time this class has been taught.
Entry level class with lots of random projects meant to teach about the creative process. It's a mandatory class for TADD majors and not too much work but feels a little redundant with the lectures. Not too bad overall.
Wonderful class in general! Participation is definitely important, but I don't know why you would ever want to skip. The projects are fun, and the atmosphere is great! All together I would definitely take another one of his classes.
He allows the students to vote and decide criteria and due dates for most projects. He is fairly lenient.
Students choose how the assignments are run (when they're due, how long, etc). Your grade is based off of those assignments, especially the challenges. It's a lot of work, but it feels so good when you're done with each challenge, plus it's fun!
He talks alot and can get off topic but is a great teacher and looks out for his students
The class was very easy, but it was built like a high school tech class. The projects were kind of a waste of time.
He asked me to rate him.
Great Professor and easy to get along with always helpful and creates a friendly and fun class experience
Sachel is a kind and caring professor that treats you like a person rather than just a student. His class is designed to give back what you put into it. The assignments are individual or group projects that push your own creative limits and put his lectures into action. It proves the concepts that he is trying to teach.
He was an engaging lecturer, who made class fun. The class wasn't too hard. Some assignments were a bit unclear but other than that He was fantastic.
This was my first class of many to come with Sachel. This class was called Creativity in Action TADD 1800. Class. I would take this class again and would totally recommend to anyone.
Sachel cares about his students, if you have a problem, he is willing to help out. I missed class for a week and a half due to COVID and he was more than willing to help me make up assignment and excused me from assignments I couldn't make up. His approaches to classes are a little different and he lets the class decide on class matters.
He is a very lenient and understanding professor, if you have any questions or problems with assignments just talk to him about it and he'll make sure everything is running smoothly. I haven't had a bad experience in his class, and I look forward to having him in the future.
Dr. Josefson is an energetic and imaginative orator that encourages meta-cognition as a means of learning. The class is highly project-based and requires out of class build-time. Attendance is required.
he talks a lot. and rambles, a lot
This is my first class with Professor Sachel, I really enjoyed this course. He created a really fun environments for us to learn in and makes sure his students feel comfortable with the assignments. I recommend this class to anyone who wants a class that is informative but fun at the same time.
I will never forget my fondness for Sachel. I appreciate his knowledge and mentorship. Thanks for a great course. I enjoyed every minute and your sense of humor.
Good course that went over materials for shows while also making you use them to show how that part of the industry is done.
Tough professor, but you can learn a lot from him if you try very hard.
Always helpful with projects great ideas. Hard to get into contact with if you see him nab him quick. Can be confusing at times but when asked for further explanation usually helps.
Sachel is a great professor. If you are willing to apply yourself he will be a great professor for you.
A very caring professor, but sometimes can be a little confusing. Good content and good projects
Teaching methods work. He is not always concise, but he knows the content. His intentions are always to help students understand the material. Recommend and ask questions.
Wouldn't recommend taking two of his classes at once. Very difficult, but you learn a ton.
Sachel is a great professor, he is extremely confusing but he genuinely tries his hardest to not be confusing. It is kinda obvious that he has favorites, but if you want to become a favorite. Join the Design Guild, talk in class, put in the extra effort
Very strict, ask for help when you think you don't need it. Take his words with a grain of salt; you'll get through it.
Easy to talk. He is understanding. He easy to approach with questions. Sometimes his directions get a little crazy but if you follow the rubric you should be just fine.
This class is very time consuming outside of class, be prepared to work on projects outside of class. This class is very rewarding in the end. The professor is very approachable for help and is always willing to help with all class work. Confusion will happen often, he's not always clear on what he needs for turn in. Very knowledgeable teacher!
Its a lot of work but he is always offering guidance and help when needed. Easy to talk to and cares about his students education. He can come off strong at first but he just wants his students to get the most out of his classes. A bit of advice would be to be ahead of schedule with your assignments so you don't stress.
Ask for help if you need it, it helps in the long run because he always gives you the feedback you need to get the grade you want. He is a hard grader and very serious about your education but he always finds a way to make people laugh and comfortable in the classroom.
The communication was clear and accessible. The material was exciting, engaging, and relevant.
Super interesting guy! Sometimes his lectures get long and boring though. Loves to ramble on.
This class is all about learning how to make money as a maker. I believe this professor communicated that well to us in this class through guest speakers discussing their work as a maker from art fairs to exhibit design. The hustle project in the class makes students go outside of their comfort zone and create works or art for profit.
Sachel is very good at taking the whole point of the unit and making it clear with participation. He has very well-noted speakers in his Leadership in Creative Industries class. This class was very well put together and I feel every student will get something out of it. You can clearly see from Sachel that he cares about each individual student.
A good person, but not always the best teacher.
he is super fun!! and very understanding.
He is very forgiving and gives students a lot of freedom with projects.
Very good professor, is there for every student and makes the class lots of fun
Good teacher and very clear on what he expects. Wish we had more in class time for some projects.
Great teacher and makes classes fun. He does, however, assign a lot of projects. You could be working on a few projects at a time and if you're taking multiple other classes is stressful. The projects can be fun though, if you have really good time management. I always felt that I HAD to spend money though which is rough when you're in college.
This professor has a great teaching style, he likes to lecture but he will stop and try a different route if he see's that students are not paying attention and bored. He is very good at teaching the material very clearly but if you don't understand what he is talking about he is good about answering questions too.
I have had a few courses with this professor so far, and I have enjoyed them both. He is a very understanding person and grades very reasonably. His class was very fun to take, I got to produce a bunch of projects with different materials I have never used, and they were fun to make.
Great Teacher! Lots of work but all meaningful assignments. Lectures can get kind of boring and long but will be beneficial. Take his classes!
He is a great professor. This class is hard and there is a big project at the end, but if you manage your time well and also he will help through every step if you need it, you just need to go and ask.,
He's fun to have as a teacher and knows alot Biut exhibition design he teaches you how to create an experience in this class and how to reach people it's a fun class there's a bit of reading but it is.worth it and you learn alot for the future
He's a very caring professor and the materials are pretty reliant to the topic. The projects did get me to think about what needs to get done and why. However, it can be really confusing to understand what he wants and how he grades. You really have to dedicate at least several extra hours to do well and try to meet with him.
For a workshop style class there sure was a lot of lecture and not much hands-on work. The final project involved tracking our own labor to construct an exhibit with basically no workflow direction form the prof, overwhelmingly cliquey behavior Wild disregard for basic wood shop safety. Less skill development than a middle-school woods class.
Gives poor feedback Hinges on buzz-words Obviously unplanned lessons. Ridiculously verbose assignments and grading rubrics. Asks wildly inappropriate questions of students in front of class in misguided corporation gossip-farming way. Unhelpful with 3D software.
This class had nothing to do with leading anyone but just hustle The point was to make money, and not be illegal. There was no guidance on anything at all. Just a self-help book. Students were not allowed to use workshop labs and they were all closed but we pay extra to have workspace in TAD. Spend own money and use own tools. Bad class.
So far, we've written six essays and seven personal reflections and Josefson has only graded one of them despite being over halfway through the semester. Very little of this course has to do with seeing the environment in the TAD perspective and more as book reflections. Don't take this course unless all you want to do is read and write essays
The material and course load are not bad, but the fact you have to wait until the semester is literally over for stuff to start getting graded is annoying. Again, this class was not hard, but not like you'll know what to improve or do better because by then the term is already over.
He is super helpful, only complaint is the random "debates" the students in my class became rather intense.
This class gives you a chance to brush up on details of projects and expand on your exhibit understanding.
This class was work intensive and work was expected at a high level, however feedback and grading was fair and based on effort put in. Show up and put in the work and you'll do fine.
very caring and helpful, always willing to help with projects
Very fun class, lots of work, and assignments need clarification. Ask for help if needed!
He is a lot as a professor but good as a person. He is very caring but just very strict on his criteria.
Got a little stressful with the projects. But good for getting experience. Over all the content was good.
He's passionate about his work, you couldn't ask for a better more supportive professor. He also has so many connections in the industry thats super valuable for your future careers
You couldn't ask for a more supportive professor, he's so passionate about his work.
Good Class
Chill guy but kinda talks a lot
Just awesome fr, got some great portfolio pieces out of it!
This was the first time this class had been offered and one out of the professor does not seem to have a background in art history and the curriculum reflected at. When asked deeper questions about what was the history and politics that influenced the artworks I was given very shallow answers like "Money troubles" or "I don't know".
Great discussions and got to take on projects your interested in the styles your learning about.
he is tough but cares a lot.
Professor was good- don't know if his teaching style was for me though personally
It's Sachel, he's awesome
Very good, but slow grader
Satchel does a great job visualizing things he teaches, even if sometimes hard to understand at first, it makes a lot of sense the more he talks about the subject. The classes he teach are always a favorite of my semester or module and I'm excited to take more with him!
I think Sachel is one of the best teachers I've ever had, and I know he'll be even better in my more advanced classes. He encourages critical thinking, and is just a fun guy! Since it was his first time teaching this class when I took it, it was a little all over the place, but I think things will be improved later on. I think I learned a lot!
He is fair and listens to students feedback.
The class itself is interesting but because of the poor communication and lack of clarity, the class is hard to follow and leads to lots of confusion.
Sachel Josefson is knowledgeable and passionate about his work. While he may struggle with concise communication, he is always ready to answer any questions. He has big ideas and a great love for his teaching and students. If you put in the time, your grade will reflect that; however, he is a very generous grader!
good class with a quiz every week
He'll challenge you but give you plenty of wiggle room to work with
This is a tough class to grade. Either the work is really easy or really hard. There are many extensive projects that are done completely on your own time (60+ hours per semester) and in class is largely lecture. Expectations change all the time which makes planning stressful. The professor clearly cares a lot about students and is pretty flexible.
He is a little confusing when discussing the materials.
Great knowledge and passion but structure of course overall could be more even and clear
I felt the class time was not spent appropriately. 100% of our work had to be done independently, so I felt like it was basically an online class, and going to class was just extra work.
He is very caring, kind, and respectful. He is not simple to track down for office hours, and isn't always clear.
This class is a fair amount of work but you will absolutely get something out of it.
This class is good if you are an artist. Do not take this class for the history credit. Extremely work heavy. The work itself isn't bad if you have good time management. However, this professor picks favorites and is extremely condescending to those he doesn't like.
It's always nice being able to go into the class and having a nice chat about the material we're learning. Would take take a class with this teacher again.
Confusing but good
Overall can be hard to understand but he's working on it, indepth projects that require a lot of work, and lectures were ok (they got the job done).
This professor has a difficult time staying on topic and controlling the classroom. He has unrealistic expectations on how the time spent listening to assigned readings, videos, podcasts, etc really add up. Minimal if any feedback on projects. Too much time spent on his personal life
In the course we had to do three big projects. Then we had a final. Which we didn't know about until halfway through the class. And on the day of we still did know what to expect from the final.
Sachel can be confusing at times, but is very helpful and clear when you ask questions. He encourages students to participate and ask questions. Overall solid professor just ask lots of questions and clarify assignments requirements with him.
Communication struggles and slight consistency struggles, but is always around to ask questions and help as best he can. Also gives partial power to the students to chose how assignments operate.
