Javid is a control freak. He frequently disrupts class to ream people out (by name in a class of 250+) for various reasons. He lacks clarity, is not engaging and I will never take a class from him again.
it's like going to military school
he's a really great teacher. Does not allow any electronics in class, including laptops so if you take notes on your laptop, its not the class for you. His exams are easy if you attend every class and read the readings. Great GPA booster
I don't wear my seatbelt when I drive to this class, because then if I get in an accident and die I won't have to go to this class. It's interesting material, but he isn't engaging and will waste class time on unrelated, uninteresting topics. He also wants to teach you how to be a student with one working model of how to be a student.
Never known any professor who cared this much about his students. Ever. Treats you like responsible adults and respectful and professional, like in a real job not kindergarden. Really does not want your time or money to be wasted on a course if it's not what you want or doesn't give back a lot of knowledge and life skills, which it definately did.
I did not enjoy his classes. Very confusing lecturer. Would not recommend to take this course with him unless you absolutely have to.
Lectures were meandering with minimal guidance. Comes across very unwilling to accommodate, though I did not find out first-hand. If this was a class that only people wanting to be psych majors took, I'd understand, but for a potential science GLER this prof is too demanding. Micromanaged students as if they were in grade school.
Basically his lectures consist of him complaining about how much he hates cell phones/technology. He is very rude and not helpful at all. Do not take a class with him unless you have no choice.
Professor Sadr treats his students like adults and expects you to read and study before class. You will learn a lot in his class but he does tend to rant a bit and can come across as rude. Don't take it personally, he really does care about his students! Not an easy A, but definitely attainable, you'll get out what you put in with his classes.
Spends majority of the class going off on irrelevant tangents. Is constantly explaining basic instructions such as how to write a quiz. Extremely monotone and hard to listen to. No technology allowed. Is condescending towards students. Worst class I've taken and I will not be enrolling in any of his in the future.
Easily my fave! If you read ahead of time and pay attention in class you will find he is hilarious, brilliant and someone you stand to learn from. His class is relevant to life. If you slack and skimp out on reading his class will be confusing and difficult. His scores on here are low because he isn't sympathetic to slackers or no shows.
Sadr is kind of frustrating sometimes. He expects you to read a lot of material he will then cover in class anyway, so it feels like you're either a good student who reads, and therefore are bored 90% of the time in class, or you're a bad student who gets to actually learn. That said, he's trying his best and doesn't hate you. Study hard to pass.
An awesome professor. If you go in expecting to get a letter grade, you're going to have a rough time. If you're going in actually wanting to learn something, you'll be just fine. I can honestly say that I remember more from Dr. Sadr's classes than any other classes I took for my degree, because he requires you to learn the material.
Extremely rude and got a negative vibe from him. Does not go over material that is over three weeks old and made me feel stupid for asking some questions. Would not recommend him, save yourself the headaches and frustrations of being in his course.
Easily the best prof I've had for any Neuro or Psych course in the last three years. Incredibly smart and dedicated, extremely knowledgable, completely straightforward and fair. Never had any prof care so much about properly teaching the material and having the students actually learn instead of everybody just faking it and getting thru. The best.
I took a night class with him and it definitely challenged my attention skills. He's monotone and very dull and boring. If he thinks your not paying attention, he will stop lecturing and stare at you until everyone turns around to look at you. I had to read the textbook several times to make sense of anything he said. Worked extremely hard for a B.
Spent half a lecture explaining that he saw nothing wrong with people leaving class if they felt their time was more valuable elsewhere, only to spend the other half criticizing people who value their time both inside and outside of class, and essentially saying that anyone who didn't give 100% all the time deserved to fail. Skip his lectures.
The guy is a freeking genius; however a bit condecending. his research involves people learning and understanding so this is were he tells you how you learn, it just comes off as if your stupid. his tests, if multiple chocie will have 26 possible chocies for the one question, so know your stuf before getting in there, or your gonna have a bad time!
AWFUL SO ANNOYING. Does not care if you cant hear him. Drags on about stupid stuff that did not relate to his lecture topic, so did not match the textbook. Spoke about us leaving if we had more important things to do. I almost got up and went to take a nap. Waste of 1.25 hrs. Skip his lectures and just do the reading.
Very rude throughout his lectures and talks about useless information. Dont even think about bringing an electronic device either.
If you are in psych 1000, skip his lectures. He literally lectures straight from the textbook chapters and goes on and on about the use of cellphones and is not afraid to call people out in-front of a class of 300 people. He is condescending and ruthless. I have heard he is better in higher level classes like 2000/3000.
Took a 3000 class level with him. He is by far the worst Psych professor at the uni. His test are super hard, his material/lecture is dry, he doesnt care about his students. Would never take one of his classes again.
Dr Sadr was the most disappointing professor I have ever had in my 5 years of university. The first day he was meant to teach us HE DID NOT SHOW UP FOR CLASS AT ALL. The second day he openly criticized students. Demanding respect when he clearly had no respect for the class. Im disappointed in the university of Lethbridge for allowing him to teach
absolutely terrible prof, doesn't actually care about the topics he teaches and rather relies on other people in the form of videos to teach it for him. He was disrespectful to his students and never really cared for the class. would never take a class with him ever again.
Respect. Very professional. Very dedicated. Like scheduling problem had him miss a lecture and immediately he apologized, created two online lectures, came on a saturday to do a makeup lecture and did the best online Q&A we've had all semester. Plus his exam questions were totally clear. Just like the chapters he wrote and the lectures. Good guy.
Legit mindblowing class. Still think about content almost everyday both on psyc-neuro side and on film/media/art side. Readings and lectures were well thoughtout and delivered and quizzes and tests were simple and straigtforward and actually checked your learning. Followed him from Psych 1000 to 2320 to 3360 to 4850 andit was 110% worth it.
His courses require you to care and put in hard work. He tells you EXACTLY what you need to do in order to do well. He wont tell you what is going to be on the exam but instead how to study the material to be successful. If you listen and care enough to understand (not memorize) what youre learning you will do fine.
Very rarely have I walked away from a class in awe. This guy should be the head of education for Canada. He has poor reviews from students that just want the easy A. He will make you work for it, but he has clear expectations and you will undoubtedly respect his methods if you actually care about your education. Sad more profs dont teach like him.
Agree w recent reviews- if youre a serious student- serious about *really* learning the content of the class youve paid all this money for, really understanding this textbook youve bought, really knowing & applying what this degree says youve learned about psych and neuroscience- not some easy empty A's- then theres nobody better than Sadr.
I had this prof during a time we were online due to covid. He doesnt believe in devices to learn, so he keeps his camera off and has no PowerPoint of any sort to help with notes. Essentially be ready to just listen to him talk through a black screen
So uptight
Like nobody else-creates a completely distraction free crystal clear learning environment that's been like a life changing miracle for my ADHD and concentration and focus both in lecture and with this textbook thats so clear and simple. Completely changed my entire school life in just 2-3 weeks. Clear, organized, very professional, very caring.
His lectures were long and unclear. We were expected to read a 50 page chapter before every class and if we didn't know every small fact we were hooped. He takes forever to respond to emails and was not accommodating at all. Good luck if you have a question because he will answer it in the most vague and unhelpful way, if he answers it at all.
During the online class, Javid did not believe in lecture slides and didn't show his face once. For a teacher teaching a class on learning and memory, he sure knew how to make learning the most difficult aspect in that class. The classes were 3 hours long but could've easily been an hour if he didn't ramble for 40 minutes.
As others have said, he does not believe in lecture slides and never showed his face. (completely black screen). His lectures were long and unclear. Practically unbearable. Be expected to read long chapters before every class. Not at all considerate to students - Considering the terrible learning environment online he was not accommodating at all.
Very unclear and takes the long way to any explanation, 30+ mins a question. However, he doesn't accept most questions. If you email, you get a 5-pg response with no clear answer. No moodle, PowerPoint, recording or lec summary to help you study, so if you don't understand a point he makes, you're SOL. You must rely on peers in discord for any help
Just because you're insanely smart doesn't mean you know how to teach. this perfectly describes Javid Technology is the devil, and he doesn't believe it can aid in learning. No moodle, no powerpoint, just rambling through a black screen. No point attending lectures, as you will just end up cramming the textbook.
Best prof I've had in years. Very organized, very professional, clear, straightforward and fair. Took EXTREME care in reorganizing the whole semester after covid changes and strike: cut material, cut third exam, gave tons of bonus points, adjusted lectures and readings. Exams crystal clear, lectures very interesting and helpful. Highly recommended.
I know a lot of people in class, my friends &me who studied th book, went to lecture, did quizzes, took midterms seirously are all getting A's and B's, my friends who skipped the book, skipped lecture, tried guessin all the test qs ended up with 30-40% and thats basically what your seeing in the comments. hes fair &simple, normal science class
Spent so much time w me & my friends on email & office hours doing his best to get us thru this crappy term. Didn't have any other prof this whole year who cared so much or paid so much attention to us-every single student. One of my friends still failed cause she stopped reading halfway thru so you do have to actually study guys!! Great person.
This was a hard semester personally and this course was the only steady safe place to carry on like things were normal and we could still interact and learn. His lectures saved me every week from small + big things I misunderstood in the book and he was so clear and detailed in his emails at every step. Great to talk to in lectures + office hours.
Truly the worst professor I have had. He does not care about his students and treats them like they are stupid when they ask a question regarding the criteria. It was online due to covid and he did not prepare any lecture slides, material, nothing. He would talk in circles the entire class and we had to teach the class to ourselves with the textbook
Real good guy. Clean simple lectures. Clear readings. Fair straightforward exams. Learned a lot and definately a better student because of it. Started out with bad highschool habits I guess. Helped a lot with special needs and my accommodations. Communication always clear and hdlpful. Best adjustments for this semester of all my profs. THank-you!
This class-professor is only one I can think that had a "one to one" relationship btw the work I put in, and what I got out in grades and learning. Totally straightforward, transparent and fair-I read, studied, wrote notes, went to lecutre and did better than 7 other classes this year. But "fair" cuts both ways-if you dont do the work you'll fail.
Good guy, professional & organized, straightforward course, clear exams, clear expectations, great content. Like others said, you have to do the work, read, study, take notes, take exams&readings&lectures seriously, then there will be a good relationship btw the work you put in & how much you learn & how good you do on exams & your grade. Simple.
2-3 yrs after graduation life got me thiknig about this course, now I think about + use what he taught almost evry day at work+home-both the content + even more everything he taught about honesty, work ethic, learning, self respect. I regret things I said+wrote when I was too young and angry to understand + appreciate him + what he was teaching us.
Real straighforward guy-just do the work he asys and youll be fine. *your* hard work is what matter most. Turn every reading into structured notes every week before going to class, take solid notes every lecture, study all of that, really test yourself dont fool yourself, then exams and quizzes will go all right. No surprises, clear and fair.
psyc 3050 he is very real and clear in his grading criteria. integrity is extremely important to him and his lectures are very interesting. big downfalls for me were complete lack of moodle page, no lecture slides, no computers/cellphones or opening of the textbook in class. he will call you out if you use those things. all paper and pen. not forme
Lectures were better than TED talks or like the best science podcast ever. But serious science class not 'edutainment' for easy A. Like everyone says you have to *seriously* read, study, take notes and learn the content in lectures & textbook. Tests were clear & fair-but didnt look that way to some friends who weren't reading & studying. Good guy.
Helped me a lot after a rough first month/exam, got me back on track. Friendly, accessible, really helped figure out why I was struggling with content and learning strategies overall. TBH I realize I wasn't so well prepared coming out of LC/HS and had this learning curve up to university level but he cares so much about helping everybody succeed.
No phones, no laptops, no tablets-no distractions. Life changing. He's been a miracle for my mental health. ngl I was pretty close to an ADD diagnosis. Then just in this class I got to see its all these crazy outside distractions we can control. His lectures I can just listen and write and THINK and not see peoples porn and video games and tiktok.
One practical point is just that his lectures are top notch but your basically dead if you dont study the text book every week too. I did the first midterm with out reading and literally got 20% correct lol. Got the text book after that and started reading and my grades shot up and managed to pass ok. And don't ignore how bad your doing on quizzes.
Personally had sharp learning curve first 2 weeks-taking notes by hand, staying of phone, reading every week.. @4 weeks was doing better than ever had before at uni or hs. @3 months was telling other profs to teach like him. HUGE breakthru for me. Stick with it, do the work, keep yr mind open, be patient..Itll pay off huge in this class. And after.
Honestly he's not a bad professor, definitely knows his material and is passionate about the subject. His teaching style just isn't for me - as I find myself feeling very dumb and anxious before, during, and after his classes. Tests are straight forward, questions are fair and clear, and the textbook is easy to read and understand.
Do not take this class if you care about your GPA. Sadr emphasizes how important the readings are for the exam, however he'll just pull some random garbage out of thin air and quiz you on it. Hardest and most deliberately unclear exam I've ever written and I have taken 33 other courses. All and all, I have learned that technology is the devil.
Doctor Sadrs classes have honestly been my one safe space from toxic technology as I manage my ADHD diagnosis, mental health & naivgate uni.. & everythgin he's teaching & the textbook helps every week w my study skills, focus & life.. 3-4 of my degree reqs can be w him & 100% I'm doing that to seek peace & success. You just have to do the work.
He helped me so much in off hours turn things around after messing up the first month and midterm. I appreciate so much better now what hes teaching, what the textbooks doing and all his good advice and coaching about how to study. Which tbh I look back and regret ignoring and needed reminding after the midterm. Great guy, great class, great prof!
crystal clear very honest straightforward and professional, crazysmart dry humour, knows all the content up and down, extremly helpful in class and w outside help. you cant go wrong.. as long as you hold up yr end of the bargain-study, go 2 class and all that. great lead in to film class-also first rate and eye opening.
Sadr is a terrible prof. He isn't accommodating to neurodivergent students. We had to sit there like robots. No laptops, no textbooks, no doodling. He would stop the entire class when someone broke these rules. And stare. Until you stopped. His exams were BRUTAL. I have experienced psychological, emotional and spiritual damage from this class.
extremely helpful & understanding w my special accomm 4 lect & exams & so unbelievably generous w his time helping me outside class in off hrs 4 lect content, exam prep exam rev & so many specialized learning strategy helping me succeed after a rough start. stuck w it after some weeks of 'growing pains' & so glad i did! best prof! thank-you sir!
This can be a difficult class if u don't put in the work. Yes, it can get irritating not having ur phone or computer to check when u get bored, but it encourages u to pay attention. tests&quizz's are fair. people complaining about him looking at u until u put ur phone away, he said no phone respect the rule. if u do the work u will be just fine.
I get why ppl dont like him but the course content is SO INTERESTING and apply able to real life, this class made me delete tiktok, realize how to break habits, apply the knowledge to my family and real life. be prepared before class, dont judge too harshly, office hours he spent 5 hours w me and i went from a C to an A-. Sadr has good intentions.
Sadr is a terrible prof. Tests are based off the textbook, but his lectures are long and pointless. As you may know, there are no phones, iPads, computers, etc. He will yell at you if you take them out. The 3hr classes are painful as he talks about nothing but how he is the smartest and knows everything. AVOID at all costs, or just skip lecture.
I had his course for 3 hours at 9am and fell asleep EVERYTIME no matter how hard I tried. I just needed visual input and his voice was to soft, just could not do it.
Good guy. Unbelievably smart. Organized, professional, knows content inside out. Lectures are clear and thought out. Does great job of teaching the textbook content plus lecture extensions. Taken three classes withim so far and excited for Celluloid this spring. Definitely best prof in psych, neuro or any science class I've had. Calm classroom too.
Lectures have been mind blowing tbh Every few minutes he says something that can literally change your life And most is not quoting the book- he's explaining 1000 times better with his own examples, observations, refs, insights- and boom! again a couple minutes later. Normal reading load but unlike all other PSYC classes you actually have to do it.
Prof. Sadr has a lot of difficulty with presenting actual material in lectures. He is more focused on spewing his views on technology, staring at+embarrassing students who are attempting to access the DIGITAL textbook+their notebook. The quality of lectures are very poor. Teach yourself the material, unless you want to spend 2/3 hrs wasting time.
If you don't know how to read and follow instructions like course outlines this may not be the class for you. If you pay attention, do the reading, follow the instructions it is a great class. You can tell he puts a good deal of effort into how he creates the lectures and exams. I know some students hate the technology ban, but I actually liked it.
If you want to be ridiculed for 3 hours, this professor is for you!! He specializes in being passive-aggressive, having exceptionally terrible self conduct within lectures, and causing an immense spike in students anxiety levels! If he makes a mistake, it is your fault. Ps: He writes his own good reviews on here, BEWARE!
Horrible will never take again, he spends at least twenty minutes a lecture bashing on the textbook and then goes on for another ten minutes bashing technology every lecture. Try to take this class online or with another professor. Avoid at all costs
I personally enjoyed this class. A lot of people were not happy with the technology ban but I found it helpful. He thoroughly goes through the textbook content. The readings are extremely manageable if you show up prepared each week, and attending class was necessary for furthering your understanding.
Javid is an insecure little boy. He is by far the worst professor at Uleth. He has a god complex because he went to MIT but in reality nobody cares. HE FAKES HIS OWN REVIEWS, he has no guts to take criticism and accept what he truly is.
Hands down the smartest most knowledgeable prof I've had in three years here. Super organized, calm, mature, professional as others said. Truly understands how learning works. Always extremely kind, warm, friendly and authentically concerned and caring whenever I needed extra help. This class and his PSYC 2330 were basically life-changing for me.
Real good guy. Great at explaining, patient & careful, step by step. Spent hours w/ me in office hours after I blanked on first exam, really turned things around for me. Tests are straightforward & fair if you do the work- learn the stuff & don't get in your own way. Listen to his study advice from the start & read the outline. Lectures are genius.
I really enjoyed this class! Thank you!
Learned a lot. Useful stuff. Normal reading load, a chapter a week. Got to be ready for the no-tech detox, though-no phones, laptops, tablets.. No powerpoint. Just pen and paper. Learning the course content explains why. Quizzes every week. Exams every 3 weeks. Don't let yourself fall behind or cram or skip the readings.
Had a tough time first couple weeks getting use to no phone/laptop/PowerPoint and taking lecture notes, did pretty bad on first midterm. Hadn't get the book early on, blanked on those weekly quizzes. He helped a lot getting me back on track but it was advice I should have read in the outline at the beginning. Did fine on the final and OK over all.
Perfect mix of Psyc Neuro and Film Studies including filmmaking film analysis and "spectatorship". I switched from New Media to Psyc half way thru my degree and this was the perfect 4000 to take for my degree grad reqs and my 4th class w Dr.Sadr. Just takes some discipline tho to study every week for weekly quizzes and stash your phone for 3 hours.
This and 4850 got me out of lots of bad habits and learned skills and strategies I put into other classes. And real life. Wish we learned these in 1st year but the way these classes are maybe wouldn't have been ready for the learning curve-tests every week, zero tech allowed, reading every week and all of that. The psych contents real eye opening.
I was scared but I had got bad advice from friends online I found out later weren't really doing the work. He's very professional and decent and seriously cares about learning and best strategies. Content blew my mind on a weekly basis and his 4850 was the same. You got to be disciplined about studying every week and getting rid of all tech though.
Best advise-read the whole outline real close multiple times before the start and just decide then to commit or drop. Its all written there clear an makes sense scientifically but you might think-like I did 1st yr..with "mixed" results-you can ignore bits and pick and choose. Like-its a complete no tech policy, no PPT, notes by hand, paper exams..
Is he smart? Yes. Is he educated? Yes. All his credentials and papers point to him being nothing short of brilliant, and I've seen he is brilliant, but he's not very kind and I don't think he cares for students. Class was stressful, I dropped it. He really didn't have any compassion or understanding for others, I was excited too, now I'm bummed.
Very textbook heavy. Doesn't feel like he cares about his students.. especially the ones who struggle to learn in the environment he creates. He doesn't use slides and has a very dull voice to listen to for 3h straight. Im willing to delay my graduation by a year to avoid him.
His style and class policy were huge for my study skillset and ADHD. Hes very calm and professional lecturing and outside class so classroom's like that too. Crashed on 1st midterm and he spent so much time in office hours working thru it and helping get set for the 2nd one and I did great. So calm and patient when I'd get frustrated and upset.
I was on probation the first class I took with him and wanted to give up. He turned it all around. I teach highschool now. Have a good job and family. Basically every day I use what I learnt from him as a prof and human being. To teach and help the most vulnerable kids. He showed by example. Had no other profs like that. But you only need one.
Learned so much It changed how I see the world &humanity totally. Legit mindblown. Best course I took After years of psych classes that were "OK" but not relevant or relatable. BUT ngl you can NOT take his classes if you're not ready yet to go 3 solid hours lecture every week with literally ZERO tech- phone, laptop, tablet, nothing. Worth it tho.
Thanks for a great semester!
