dr. rida is a really nice man and does a really good job explaining things in class. he invites questions from the homework everyday, and material on the test is pretty much the same as what he goes over in class. perhaps a tougher than average grader
Dr. Rida is an extremely boring teacher. His tests are not indicative of how much you know. I would avoid Dr. Rida.
Difficult professor, but he is fair in that he will take the time to teach you in office hours. dont catch his while hes eating though, the dude literally ****s his food, i saw him destroy an apple once, looked like a lion ravaging an antelope
Dr. Rida is a great teacher. The material is challenging, and you have to study, but he tries to make it easy for you. He is very precise and clear. I recommend him to anyone that wants to try hard.
Only weekly group HW, which may be why I found his exams very difficult. Very precise in lecture. Tough grader. Doesn't give A's for effort. I pulled a C after getting an A with Parker in Calc I. His exam/quiz are tough b/c the particular probs can trip you up even though you understand the concept.
Good lectures trys to help make it as mangeable as possible. Tests and especially quizzes very hard. But if u go to office hours its a big help.
AWESOME teacher. Very Intelligent. If you work hard in this class it isn't too bad. Tests/Quizzes can be a little difficult, but if you study you'll do fine.
The class is very challenging to begin with. It is a lot of visualization because its all about 3 and 4-D. The class consists of 3 exams, 3 quizes, and a final which covers the entire material. Be prepared to work for your grade!
YEAH RIDA! Awesome class and a good teacher. Willing to help if you don't understand. Good preparation for Calc 2.
Dr. Rida is a great teacher. Very very organized and on top of everything. Follows his syllabus to the T and makes sure his wipe-board is spotless before lecturing. His office hours are very useful and he makes sure you understand the material. Highly recommend him.
The material was fairly easy, tests can be hard but the quizes are straight forward. He is VERY helpful in office hour.
Take Rida if your not a math whiz. Calc is hard but he helps make it manageable. Go to office hours, it helps out alot.
Rida is a kickass teacher. makes calc 3 seem easy, one of the better math teachers i have ever had.
This class was VERY difficult. He is a tough grader, a nice guy and helpful in office hours, but his test questions are very difficult and confusing even if you understand the concepts. I am usually very good at math but I got a C- and had to work my butt off to get that, never missed a class and studied VERY hard, still got D's on every test.
EXTREMELY hard class. He tries. His accent kind of gets in the way of his explanations. Homework is due every week and attendance is mandatory. A lot of the time what is on the test is not what we studied. But he is a friendly guy.
Dr. Rida is a pretty good calc 3 professor considering the difficulty of the subject. Though the tests are hard, if you put time into the class, you will be fine. Office hours are a must if you need help with anything. Highly recommended.
One of the best math professors at USD. Caution: Calculus II and above is not for the faint of heart. He doesn't curve tests, but will replace ur lowest quiz and test score with ur final score if it's higher. I had the final today, and it was impossible. You have to be REALLY good at math to deserve that A. Lots of cute girls though.
has an accent that may affect understanding the lecture. tries to make jokes, funny when not trying to be. Gives what seems like good examples for material being covered, but does not reflect homework questions. Quizzes are worth 10 points. Midterm and Final are RIDICULOUSLY HARD. study guide thats given before both do not help in preparation.
It is very difficult to learn Calc from him. His accent makes his explanations difficult to follow and even worse, he doesn't teach things the way they are taught by the textbook. Throw in the fact that his exams/quizzes generally have very little to do with what he told you to study and you have a recipe for disaster. Usually an A student, got a C
TAKE RIDA!!!!!!!!!!!! His tests are REALLYYYYYYYYYYYY hard but he is one of the best teachers at USD by far. He will work with you if you have any problems and he loves what he does.
Awesome Teacher! Loves his job. Has the typical dry humor of math teachers. His teaching style is different than most, in that he emphasizes concepts. This way, he ensure that his student understand the logic and reasoning behind the different math concepts. Great teacher, highly recommend. Tests and quizzes are heavily weighted, so study hard.
Very hard class. He is very organized in his lectures and they are easy to follow for the most part. He's really helpful during office hours, so go to them if you need help. Tests can be hard and the final is impossible. Sometimes they seem harder than the homework.
Dr. Rida is very good at explaining concepts in different ways if students don't understand it. However, he grades the homework pretty hard and attendance is mandatory. He tries to be funny but ends up being funny when he's not trying to be. And he wears his pants really high up- just an observation. You'll get used to his accent after awhile
I think he might be the best math teacher at USD, he is really helpful and nice. The material is a little hard but if you do the homework and attend it shouldn't be a big problem.
Gotta love this guy. He's really dorky and loves math a little too much. He grades the hw really hard...but you get extra credit for doing it in groups. I only survived because I had the teacher's edition of the txtbk which has all the answers...get it! Tests and quizzes are pretty hard, just pay attention in class and you'll do ok.
Hw is assigned every week, usually has a lot of stuff we didn't learn in class. he tries to go really fast to fit stuff in. he grades his hw really hard, but that was kind of the grader's fault. tests and quizzes suck, they aren't the easiest, but they aren't the hardest. compared to other math teachers he's probably the better one to take. he trie
Way to hard of a class for it to be labeled as college algebra. I felt like I was back in calculus. The final was extremely difficult as well. The homework is graded very hard as well and his accent at times is difficult to understand. I felt as though he didn't care about his students that much, but he's a nice dorky guy who makes jokes.
Dr. Rida is a great teacher, he is awesome at explaining concepts and is more than willing to help students during office hours. His tests require a lot of studying but he doesn't put any problems on them that we havent gone over in class. He made calc 3 manageable
He is a really smart guy and knows what he is talking about but can have trouble trying to explain the concepts easily. Overall the class wasn't too hard but it helped to know Calc I well before. Tests weren't big surprises. You have quizzes every two weeks or so and then 2 tests per semester and a final. Would recommend taking him over others.
Dr. Rida is the best math teacher I have ever had. He is super clear in explaining concepts, and he gives extra credit for doing the homework in groups. Tests can be hard, but quizzes are usually easy and help your grade. Really great guy. I recommend for calc II.
Boring class but Rida is a great teacher. Straight forward about the material and there are no surprises on the quizzes/tests. There are bonus points for doing homework in groups which is awesome. One of the best math teachers at USD, I'd definitely recommend Rida.
boring class and kind of boring teacher but hes really good at explaining.
Rida is awesome. He has a little bit of an accent but its easy enough to get used to. You get extra credit for doing homework in groups which is awesome. Also, you get equation sheets for all the tests and quizzes besides the very first quiz. I thought he made Calc 3 super bearable.
Not a good professor at all. Difficult to understand and offers little help. More concerned with helping higher level students during office hours so it is almost impossible to get help. do not take!
Hard class. quizzes and tests are hard but he tries his best to make everyone understand. It is possible to get an A if you work hard but easy to get a C.
Horrible teacher. Makes a hard class even harder. I had to work extremely hard for a C. Avoid!!
Calc 3 is ridiculously hard, don't take it unless you're a math major/minor or engineer. Said makes it doable, but go into office hours. Group homework is nice, but it still takes a long time. Slight accent, bearable class. Good choice for a Calc 3 professor
Dr. Rida is a great teacher. His tests are hard, don't get me wrong, but you learn so much and do well as long as you try. He can explain things extremely well and if you go to office hours he is extremely helpful. DEFINITELY take Rida!
Rida is great as a lecturer, and he is well rounded in what he's talking about. However, the class material is hard and Rida makes it harder by his grading system. For example, there are 4 quizzes and 8% on each, which is harsh because you're required to understand most of the material when taking one quiz. Other than that, Rida is welling to help u
At the beginning, I was really struggling and did not like the class at all. After studying a lot more and going into office hours, the class became a lot better. Dr. Rida is extremely helpful in office hours as is the math learning center for this course. Definitely a difficult class, but with hard work an A or B is very doable. Rida is great!
Material is hard but Rida is one of the best teachers for it. Explains well and office hours are extremely helpful. Tests are way easier than quizzes. Extra credit for hw done in groups. If going to take this class definitely take with Rida.
Rida was a good teacher the tests and quizzes can be difficult. Need to put in a lot of effort to get an A
Rida is one of the best teachers I've ever had. It was a hard class, but he does everything he can to help you through it. I'd recommend him to anyone.
Quiz or test every two weeks. Lecture style: go over very easy examples in class and then assign much more difficult problems for homework. Utilize the office hours they can make your grade. Homework is allowed do be done with a group-which gives you 3 ec pts per assignment. Easy to pass class if you put in enough effort. Diff teacher may be better
The class is tough, but he is a great guy and will always be there to help. He makes funny jokes and makes sure you understand the topics.
I love him!! He is SO helpful in office hours and really wants you to succeed. The class is a bit time consuming. I was really nervous to take his Calc class but really trying my best and not missing a class, I ended up with an A. My only tip is to go to office hours. He is very funny and sweet. :)
Said Rida is the best math professor on this planet. If you have to take Calc 3 there is no question you should take it with Rida. It's the hardest class and he teaches it flawlessly. He's always willing to help and he's also one of the funniest professors I've had. He gives extra credit if you work on the homework in groups. 100% recommend.
Dr. Rida puts his students first! He knows that Calculus 2 is one of the hardest classes for anyone so he grades fairly. If you discuss your test with him, he might give you points back. He also gives extra credit on homework if you work in a group. Overall, Rida knew his stuff and explained things really well. If you have to take calc 2, take Rida
Dr. Rida is one of the best Calculus II lectures in the department. Calc 2 is a hard subject regardless, but his tests/quizzes covered topics from lecture. Homework sets could be done in groups to get extra credit, but make sure you do each problem before the tests! He's a very fair teacher.
Dr. Rida is undoubtedly one of the best professors in all of the math department, especially considering that the department is frankly not great. He's very clear in his lectures and no surprises on his tests either, although they are quite challenging. But obviously regardless of the professor, this is calculus so no class will be "easy"
He is no doubt a great teacher. He is very helpful in office hours. However, he doesn't curve his tests even when his averages are very low and he is an extremely hard grader. I went to almost every office hours as well and every single class and I still ended up with a C+ in the class.
He is an amazing professor overall and he genuinely wants everyone to do well. The class is difficult bc of the content, but he will give students the necessary help. He is extremely clear with his expectations and the tests are exactly what is covered in lecture and homework. Definitely recommend him, he replaces the lowest quiz/test w final.
I am extremely grateful that I had Dr. Rida for Calc 2! He is very straightforward and wants everyone to do the best they possibly can. His tests are not easy but they're straightforward as long as you study. Keep in mind that this is calculus so it is not easy, but he makes it better and is way more understanding than other math professors at USD
Dr. Rida is a really good teacher and made something like math much more enjoyable than past teachers I've had. The tests are fairly hard but he will work hard to make sure that all the content is covered before the test and will send a clear study guide. Highly recommended for a math class.
Dr. Rida is an amazing professor. He makes learning calculus enjoyable. He is fair and gives clear instructions. He takes the time to clarify any confusions. He really wants his students to learn.
Calculus may be a hard subject and there is no way getting around that. But I truly enjoyed this class with him! He is a great professor take him if you can!!!
Dr. Rida is really nice and truly cares about his students' success. There are 2 tests, 4 quizzes and a final which were all fairly difficult, but he helps by giving detailed lectures and review sheets. His homework is from the textbook and is pretty time-consuming, but he allows group homeworks with up to 4 people in a group which is nice.
Dr. Rida is a goofy professor who made me enjoy math for the first time in my Investigations in Modern Mathematics class. He is pretty clear on what he wants. There are a few options for extra credit as well. Take him for math!
Dr. Rida was the greatest guy ever. Calc II was incredibly hard and I personally sucked at it, but Said was always willing to help (especially during office hours) and wanted you to succeed. I wouldn't have passed if it wasn't for his office hours.
Dr. Rida is a really great teacher as long as you are willing to pay attention. He is very lecture-based, but for the most part it's an informative and interesting lecture. He's very helpful during office hours and really wants his students to succeed, despite having hard tests and quizzes.
Dr. Rida is an amazing guy and genuinely cares about what he is teaching. However, he goes off on tangents and only touches the surface of the concepts and gives one easy example in class. The homeworks assigned are ridiculously hard in comparison to what he teaches in class. If you havent taken calc before dont take this class.
Not only does he give ridiculously hard tests and quizzes, but also makes them worth your entire grade. Homework isn't worth anything despite how much he assigns, and the grade on Blackboard isn't accurate until he weighs quizzes and tests at the end of semester. Do not take this professor. He doesn't teach, only does easy examples in class.
Although math isn't my strong point, I went through high school earning A's because of the teachers who actually knew how to teach. I BARELY passed this class. His lectures are so confusing and he does a poor job explaining. You get to the homework and it's nothing like the lectures. Get ready to really teach yourself. He's a sweet man, that's it.
He's a nice guy but this is a hard class and most people don't do that well. There's definitely worse options but he's not the clearest when explaining things.
Honestly it's hard which can be expected from any math class. Your grades are pretty much entirely based on test scores and the tests are reallly hard considering they have only 10 questions. Focus on the homework questions given especially the hard ones as these are what are on the test not the notes. He lets you drop one test and quiz grade tho.
Classwork, quizzes, and tests have nothing to do with each other. They are all formatted completely different from one another. The lectures are easy to understand because he barely scrapes the surface of what you're supposed to learn so everyone can follow. Then when quizzes and tests come he throws curveballs at you- studying is difficult.
His lectures are amazing. I've never felt lost in his class and homework is mostly based on his lectures. If he does assign something that wasn't on his lecture, then usually a question would clear things up or he simply takes them off the assignment sheet. The people that gets C's are the one's that literally ask questions on the day of the test.
This was my first calculus class and it was really difficult. There are only two tests, the midterm which is worth 25% and the final which is worth 30%. His quizzes and tests are hard and in class he makes calc seem so easy. I would look elsewhere if you're taking calc for the first time.
There is a reason why people take math classes outside of USD. Calc 2 is a hard class and this professor certainly does not make it any more pleasant. Homework problems are different than quizzes which are different than exams and he expects you to be a professional from Calc 1. Take my advice, take Calc 2 somewhere else with someone else.
In short, take another professor or take calc outside of USD. Heavy homework assigned, but only counts for 10%. Arbitrary grader for tests/quizzes, goes over correct answers but does not give personal feedback on blackboard. Nice guy, but not worth the stress at all. Attended office hours frequently, still cried every week.
Professor Rida covers quite easy concepts during classes but the homework is completely different from concepts in class. On top of the homework being impossible, the tests and quizzes are on different topics as well. DO NOT TAKE unless you want to get a tutor.
He was an amazing professor. The lectures made perfect sense, and were easy to get through. If you have questions he really helps. The homework really helps you prepare, and the tests and quizzes are exactly what you prepare for.
Overall he is a great professor, his lectures are just a little boring because he stays on the same easy topic for like 3 classes. He is very open to answering questions and holding office hours. He will do everything he can to help you but make sure to do all of his hw assignments because that's a big part of your grade.
Professor Said is a very nice and caring man. His lectures are easy to follow and if you take notes in his class you will do well. He makes sure his students understand the content while still making the hour you spend with him enjoyable. Take this class!
Lectures are easy to tune out and not interactive at all which made learning difficult. Lectures vs hw vs test were difff things. He kinda smiles when u get sum wrong in class lmaoo but u can reach him during office hours. Oddly bickered with me when HE made a mistake idk. If you have a solid foundation in math its fine but otherwise hard to learn
Dr. Rida does a great job teaching test material. Attending and participating in class and doing the homework made the material easy to understand. Any question on a quiz/test was either on the homework or something similar was done in class. He always took the time to review with students outside of class.
Dr. Rida is very sweet, but sometimes his lectures are difficult to follow and understand. He is always transparent about when tests and quizzes are and what will be on them. Most of the time all the problems on assessments are almost identical to what you do in class. Though math is no longer required for my major, I appreciated Dr. Rida's class.
He is alright, only passed because I took this class before. You are not allowed to eat, use any electronics, and he does not like when you use the bathroom. The class is not interactive at all and I often find myself losing focus.
Pay attention during lectures and take notes. The quiz material is similar to the homework and he is a very generous grader. Make sure to find a good study group and homework group. I recommend reading the textbook before class to prep for the lectures if you aren't the biggest fan of his teaching style.
He is very sweet and tries his hardest to help in office hours. However, the lecture feels kind of disorganized and does not make much sense to me. I had to study a lot for quizzes and tests and still didn't perform amazing. Also, due to his explanations not making much sense, I found myself watching videos to teach myself.
His lectures are awful, but the worst part of this class is that you have nowhere near enough time to complete the in class tests.
Lectures are disorganized.Only works through the simplest examples then expects you to become a mathematician overnight.Grade relies on two tests and one final. He doesn't care if you have any conflict that arises with his class. If you are new to calculus, this is NOT the course for you. Might be a sweet guy, but the worst math teacher I've ever had
Dr. Rida is a good person and clarifies questions during office hours, but his lectures are very hard to keep up with. The class is not interactive it is just pure lecture. Expect to have around 20 to 30 problems on each weekly homework (not bad). But his tests/quizzes are nothing like the problems he assigns (they are way more complicated).
Professor Rida is a very generous grader. His classes are fully lecture based, with lots of weekly homework. As long as you pay attention in class, (show up!!), and do the homework, you should be fine in this class. The quizzes and tests are always way easier than the homework. If you're struggling, going to office hours is super beneficial.
Honestly not my favorite course. Don't let the overall rating fool you. If you don't already know calc 1 don't expect to learn it. This is an extremely fast pace course and his policies are strict. Don't try to reason with him or ask for anything that drives off of his syllabus because he's saying no. He's not compassionate or reasonable at all.
If you hate yourself I'd Recommend this course
I really liked Professor Rida. The lectures were interesting and enjoyable, and he was very sweet and helpful outside class. The homework could be heavy and hard, but the quizzes and tests were exactly what was talked about in class, and he was very generous in grading them. Take notes, do the homework, and go to office hours!
easy class because I took in high school. I can bearly understand the professor and the class is EXTREMLY boring. He stands up there and just reads from this online textbook. super boring classses and is such a stickler about the homework. easy-ish class just extremly boring and I can't understand him
Very nice guy but I have a hard time with math. Needed to get a tutor and still got a C in the class. Very good in office hours at explaining but sometimes hard because many people are there too.
If you took algebra 2 or pre-calculus in high school, it will be a lot of the same topics. He explains lessons in sort of a complicated way that is hard to follow so I had to re-teach a lot of it to myself. Quizzes/tests are less than 15 questions but each question has at least 3 parts so it's not a lot of time. Class is boring but it is doable
If I didn't take Math100 the sem before this class I would not have done as well. His lectures are counterintuitive and I have never seen many of his methods of teaching algebra. His class has a lot of high school-like rules, but he just wants respect. If you go to class, do the work, and study you will do well, but there is a lot of self-teaching.
DO NOT TAKE IF YOU ARE NOT GOOD AT MATH. You have to teach everything to yourself because his lectures do not make much sense. He teaches in a very hard to comprehend way. Tests and quizzes are not a lot like class. I am a straight A student and barely got a C in this class. If you are good at math, go for it. Nice guy, one weekly hw.
He's very thorough. Sometimes the way he goes step by step gets boring, but when you're stuck it helps a lot and he won't make you feel stupid for asking a question.
Class was easy if you have already learnt most of the material. The test and quizzes were difficult if you didn't study, class average was typically 70%. Not all of the material on the study guide was on the final, and same goes for the test.
