Should teach advance Biology
shes ok. goes really fast. pay attention to wat ur doing in lab, if u screw something up, she gets pissed. otherwise shes generally easy going.
not good- avoid
She's a great lab Professor. She goes quickly but if you ask a question she'll stop and explain. Very fair with grading and hearing you out. Just do the work. Plus, she's a looker and her accent is soothing. Worth the time to take her. Better than a lot of the other options.
She is the best of the bests..
She's a great lab prof, just stay on top of the work. She likes students who put effort, and if you are one of those students you should have no problem with her! I truly enjoyed her class.
She's a great lab prof! She likes students who work hard and put effort into the work, so if you are one those students then take her! She is always willing to help and answer questions, which is great! I would take her again!
take her for lab!!!
she's a must for lab!!
This lab instructor is extremely hard. Most of the class is failing and on our last test we all averaged a 44 even with major studying...
Very hard working and intelligent prof. You will know bio inside out if you pay attention in her class.
worst professor I ever had.Goes through 120 slides in an hour and 45 minutes a week. Tests are nothing from slides. should not teach this class cannot come down to a undergrad level for microbio.went through entire book. will not get specific expects you to know every single thing in book even though most have failed. only 10/ 44 show up to class.
She is a very nice person. All I can say that she cares for her students but you need to study from the book.
uses images+information from diff txtbook than required. when asked how to study for exam if we don't have the material, says "look it up online+good luck." exam ques hard, dont relate to txtbook material. lectures very fast, many students ask her to repeat. puts too much slides in her lectures, never finishes, so chapters gets pushed back.
Added additional chapters from 2 textbooks not used in this class, couldn't even hear her on taped lecture when right next to her, showed lack of concern for Super Storm Sandy with email for new review date, only cared about her upcoming test. Professor Holtzman should have taught the whole semester. Would never take her again.
Taking my MCAT soon, have been in alot of Bio classes with many diff types of Bio teachers, Cheema was BY FAR the worst. Spoke in unclear monotone voice, blew right thru topics with no explaination. She tested on material not in the book, and we had no access to it. Its a bad feeling to study for test for days while shooting in the dark. Stay away.
She comes off as nice at first but then she never openly states to the class what material we are responsible for on the exams lecture slides are from the textbook and she reads them verbatim I have never seen a science professor put such little effort into teaching no quizzes homework etc. just lecture and exams
Only thing I disliked about her was the monotone in her voice, makes class dreadful! Other than that she is great and knows her information inside out
Really knowledgable and kind person but class is frustrating. Why? She is unclear about what will be tested, what is due and what material is important. Textbook is ridiculously dense and studying is really discouraging when one doesn't know what to expect. She asks random questions on exams and does not emphasize what you really should know.
Kind person and always in a good mood. Very approachable professor. But very difficult! She is not clear about things. For ex/which labs are due, what will be tested. Won't announce things to class. Write things down and use BlackB to tell us what we need to know! Too much guesswork involved with studying for her exams. Exams are very hard.
One of the easier biology classes I've taken. She's is by no means difficult- I had more difficult and worse professors. She is really nice and she cares about her students, just go up to her and talk to her more often.
Professor Cheema is just okay. She is incredibly knowledgeable and that is quite clear, but some people should not teach. Her class is so dry and I often find myself drifting off regretting my decision about coming to class in the first place. Her exams are difficult because the topic is difficult.
You better know what you are signing up for. Lecture is boring, Spent every weekend reading the textbook; exams are mc. Lab - PURE MEMORIZATION only open-ended quizzesexams, one ppt presentation. Dissected a cat, sheep brain, cow eye. Interesting but very difficult. Prof is knowledgeable but very fast-paced. Did i mention VERY DIFFICULT?
Honestly one of the hardest classes Ive taken because the material is hard itself. However, prof. cheema should try to make the lectures more interesting because her monotone voice can really make you zone out. ALSO the textbook is your best friend!! Read the textbook for lecture exams and slides & lab exams are based on powerpoints in her lab.
Dr. Cheema is a great lecturer. I took her during a summer session, so the lectures were extremely dense. It is crucial to go to class and listen. She knows what she's talking about, and when you read the textbook, you'll recognize everything strictly from her lectures. Incredibly nice. You have to work painstakingly hard, however.
You have to work hard in order to pass her class. She knows what's she's talking about but she's not the nicest professor.
Prof Cheema is VERY nice and approachable. she is extremely knowledgable and sweet. her lectures are boring but record them and listen to them over and over! dont bother with the textbook if you do that. her tests are NOT as bad as other pre med sciences at all. it's a joke compared to 105 and 106
Professor Cheema is by far the most intelligent professor I have ever come across in any CUNY campus. She is the pinnacle of what biology department should be, a professor who is incredibly knowledgeable as well as versatile in all aspects of biology. She is the best at what she do and she will definitely go far in the future (Needs to teach at IVY
Her test are very difficult b/c you have truly understand what you have learned. You cannot memorize your way to a good grade. I usually get 80-90 and in my first test received a 68. After realizing her "testing" method my grade went up to 86, which was after studying for 2 weeks and making sure I understood every detail of what she had taught.
Professor Cheema is the epitome of a horrible professor. Reads off the slides and fails to explain a lot of things. Anatomy itself is a hard subject, but she made it more unpleasant.
Her tests were a bit challenging and you did have to know the material in detail but that's how college should be. Everything that was on the exam was mentioned in class and on her slides so there were no surprises. I didn't open the book once. Just used my notes, slides, and internet for clarification. Overall, I think it was a fair class.
Let me say this, horrible professor. Her curve means nothing to you unless you are at a B+ and an A-. She is no help, only tells you to read and read again. My advice would avoid this teacher at all cost if you want a good grade.
she has knowledge but doesn't have the skills to pass it to others. Lectures are too boring, long and you'll not understand anything. most of the students don't attend the class. Don't take her and save your GPA. she'll give you nothing, but a very stressful semester. Even your other classes will be affected by the stress you take for this class.
In order to do well in this class you need to pay attention to every single thing she says in lecture, whether or not it is on the slides. This is hard to do as she speaks quickly and in a monotone. What you are expected to know is never really made clear. Avoid if you can
so boring lectures, her voice is so dim which will make you sleep in the class. Her slides are very short and not helpful at all. Her tests are really hard, it's hard to pass. If you don't believe me, take her class then you'll better know what i'm talking about.
If you would like to save some of your dignity, do not take her.
if you actually participate in class it'll help you know what to study she puts what she wants you to know on the slides (which isn't a lot but detailed). if you ask she'll also tell you what you need to know and most of the time is very detailed material. she also gives extra credit on her exams without letting you know which is how she curves.
I attended lectures maybe twice throughout the semester. I read the book. This class is way easier than Bio 105 and 106. I think they curve at the end of the semester. Once again, just read the book and go over the slides. Don't bother to go to the lectures. I heard that they she is giving pop quizzes now in Bio 40. Took this class last spring.
The worst teacher I had ever seen in QC. Not to mention lab with Daniel Janash. Everyone is failing the class. Horrible and extremely difficult course. I paid a lot of money for this class. More than half the class is failing. This is ridiculous and she expects us to think like a phD student. Exams are extremely tough. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TEACHER!
I will never take Dr. Cheema again. She reads off the slides, then posts them online. Her test are based on nothing that is on the slides.
I will never take Dr. Cheema again. She reads off the slides, then posts them online. Her test are based on nothing that is on the slides. She gave one extra credit the entire semester, and does not really curve anything.
She talks way too fast during lectures. I don't know how she manages to stay alive because it seems like she doesn't even breathe at all during lectures. She's nice but she's really tough in giving exams. Avoid her if you can.
She's smart but she's not an effective lecturer. Her tests are very difficult and you have to spend at least 4 hours everyday to study just to pass the course. If you want to take anatomy 1 for two semesters, take her.
She is a very pleasant person and can ask her anything that concerns you. However, extremely difficult tests compared to lecture slides. When studying you understand everything and then come her extremely complex questions. First test wasn't too bad, manageable to pass. Other two were just unfair.
Do yourself a favor and do not take this professor unless you want to take the class again. Extremely lecture heavy and goes through material way too quickly. Lecture slides are different from the exam itself. Very complex questions. Deff would not recommend her to anyone
Anyone here who complains about their grade is a) a student that expects a good grade and b) a student that still hasn't understand how her class works 3 tests, all of which you can pass if you read the topics she wants you to read from her slides. Thats it. You literally read the textbook and read the slides that correlate to it.
Cheema doesn't care for her students. Her lecture slides aren't as bad, but the tests she gives are extremely difficult. She doesnt curve, half of the students failed. I never got an F in college, except for this class. If you want to keep your gpa high please dont take her. She treats everyone like med school.
WORST TEACHER EVER, DONT TAKE HER SHE NEEDS TO BE FIRED. DOESNT CARE ABOUT STUDENTS, AND TRIES TO CHEAT THEM. SHE WANTS TO FAIL YOU!
Don't take this class with cheema. She is one of the worst prof ever that I had at QC she shouldn't be teaching at all. She doesnt explain the material she just reads the lectures. If on the first exam thr average is high she makes on purpose the next exam more difficult in order to lower the class average. Take anatomy at a different college
Shes the worst. I got an F for this class, my first F in College. It ruined my GPA. Her tests are out of this world type. I hate to say this, but to save your dignity please dont take her.
You can take this professor if you are ready to give it your all. Go to every lecture, take notes in class, try to pay attention to everything she says (even though that's hard to do). Took this class two times, the second was way better since I knew what to expect. If you have to take her, tread carefully.
Do not take her! she excepts so much from the students, and talks like she excepts the students to know the material like her, i dont know why she is a professor if shes not going to care for her students
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. she talks WAY too fast to take notes. Lectures are LONG and BORING because her voice is dead monotone. Tests are impossible no matter how many hours you study. avoid. avoid. avoid. if you cant avoid and absolutely must take her, record her classes because you will need to memorize every single detail for the tests.
Cheema is unenthusiastic, and bored with her own profession. She is uninspiring and favors certain students over others. I got A- in both courses but it doesnt mean she is a good professor. I worked hard and love bio. In lecture halls she reads off slides & looks down at the podium. She is rude and condescending. She will not last long.
I took Cheema for two courses in one semester. She's not an easy one, but it's not impossible. She's welcoming if you visit her office hours. She is one of the most knowledgeable professors that I know, yet makes the lecture less interesting to the students unless you find the materials fascinating. Record and retake notes if you want the grade.
Shes a great professor. For those who want to be doctors and nurses shes only preparing for whats to come. If you can do her course work consider changing your career path. It only gets harder from here. She does care for her students, she does do a great job in what she teaches. You will learn a lot from her.
Dr. Cheema is tough, but is very fair. She asks you questions that really make you think about and apply the material, rather than just spit out memorized answers. Definitely go to lecture - her tests include some questions that she only covers there.
She really knows her stuff, and is willing to help you IF you are willing to help yourself. Tests are fair -not easy but not impossible IF you study. She gives alot of homework, but it will help on the test. It's important to go to lecture and pay attention. Make the and effort you'll do well. Don't go to class and barely study you won't pass
Horrible professor. Microbiology already is a difficult course, but on top of that she's giving a lot of unnecessar extra work for no reason. Apparently she's changing a lot of the course as the time is going on and is essentially testing this all out on us as if we are guinea pigs. Very disorganized, her lectures are boring with her monotone voice
Don't take her. She makes the class way more difficult and confusing than it already is. Very disorganized person and very slow in lecture. Expects you to know material even if she doesn't review it.
Absolutely terrible. She creates more work along the way as if none of us are taking any other classes. She is a terrible lecturer and tends to think that we all have nothing better to do than spend all our time teaching ourselves what she hasnt. RUN AWAY!
Makes this class ridiculously harder than it needs to be. Gives way more work than you would expect. You should NOT take her and instead wait another semester (if you can) to take another professor.
If you care about your GPA, then avoid her. She doesn't lecture well at all and she adds a lot more work midway through the semester (things that were never even on the syllabus).
This professor cannot teach. Going to class leaves you more confused and asleep, especially with her boring monotone voice. Exams are very tricky and she does not care about her students. Take Dennehey instead.
stay away please
Avoid her class , she cant teach at all
She gives extremely hard test , its almost like she wants her students to fail.
Dr. Cheemas exams are challenging but theyre not impossible if you keep up and study. She is also open to questions and more helpful during office hours. I really enjoyed her lectures and I miss them a lot. Her slides are descriptive and useful but dont neglect to read the book to inform on the slides. Attendance is not mandatory but go!!
This class is hard because it is material heavy. You HAVE to understand the information before class because her lecture is only a review. You won't learn because she teaches very fast. You will have to study every night for this class in order to pass.
going to every lecture won't even help you pass her tests, not enough time for the way she lectures. not caring at all when it comes to tests. tests are brutal and she will never curve. lab class and online homeworks/ quizzes can be ur saving grace. start studying the minute you exit that lecture room to do good in her class.
professor cheema is nice but this class is insane. her tests are really hard and you have to study the material a lot to do well. the material is not easy and a lot of effort must be put into doing well in this class. i think that she makes it harder than it should be.
prof Cheema is well informed in the subject. Her teaching style was amazing. Tests werent that bad. start studying and stop making excuses
You can study all month, week and night before the exam, and still wont get anything near an A. I understand the material is heavy but she makes it even worse. The homework is so long and confusing, always due before class which makes no sense at all. She talks for 2 straight hours and confuses us. Awful course.
I read the book, did connect questions, attended lectures, reviewed PP slides, and studied every day yet barely got 75's. She doesn't teach she regurgitates what's in the book, does not clarify or elaborate on topics. Her exams are TRICKY and some questions can not be found in any of the materials. Ruined my GPA and affected my health. STAY AWAY!
Had her for 40&45. Shes extremely knowledgable in both subjects and yes shes difficult but thats bc shes preparing students for their future (esp bc most people in the class are trying to be gym teachers/nurses/PAs). she does ramble. recording lecture helps a lot. read the textbook to and ask q's. shes always willing to help. you'll learn alot
Cheema is very knowledgeable and kind. That being said, I would be insane to take another class of hers. There is an INCREDIBLE amount of work. Genetics will dominate your schedule. You have to study from morning to night. If you aren't willing to sacrifice your outside life for the duration of it, take the equivalent at QCC. No one will blame you.
Worst Professor ever!
Dr Cheema is a kind person. However, she has assigned an INSANE amount of work this summer semester instead of giving lectures. I am sitting at my computer all day and I have no life right now. I took Orgo last semester and I would say that this is tougher given the amount of work. I have never had so much to do for a course in college.
She makes it seem like she wants to help but really doesnt. Her test are very hard and she randomly adds assignments
Interesting class but flipped classroom meant no lectures/teaching, only a textbook. Time consuming short answer hw ?s were main teaching tool & really got those topics into your brain. Rambled a lot vs giving a concise answer in office hrs. Sometimes not very clear in phrasing of ?s. Need to ask for help, be motivated and spend time to succeed
I took this prof. in 2017. Was a straight A student until this class. Her test Qs are far off (difficult wording too) from whats in her lecture slides/ textbook. Applied to grad school this summer and i didn't get in b/c this class brought me down. Studied so many hrs still got a bad grade. Got a A+ in A&P2 w/ diff prof. Save yourself & PASS ON HER
Dr. Cheema is known for micro BIO-201 but she thought BIO-363 in the absence of Prof Fath. I must say that she did an amazing job given the pandemic, she was awesome at reaching out and communicating with her students and she provided excellent resources + materials by variations for helping in accomplishing each assigned task. Take Take Take.
idk where to start just know honestly, if the class average for all tests was a 62 and theres no curve theres a big big problem here.. save urself and pass her on if anyone if u read this and still want to take this course with her good luck u
Anatomy and Physiology I is already tough enough, but taking this class with Prof. Cheema as the professor is just ridiculous. If the majority of the class is having issues passing even the lab portion of BIO 40, there is clearly a major issue. I warn you now. DO NOT. I repeat, DO NOT take BIO 40 with Prof. Cheema. Save yourself the stress.
I took this class to get my required science credit for the Spring semester. What I DIDN'T know was how brutal this class was. No matter how much I read in the textbooks, answer the quizzes and went to Quizlet to understand the topics more, I always get a 40 on the lab exams, with my highest being a 64. Unless you want to see your GPA drop, don't.
she literally told us in class straight Im quoting her the class average is a 62 at the end of semester, this means if u put this on scale more than half the class failed and she refuses to curve tests which is 90 percent of your grade. There are around 15 chapter readings (50 questions each), and also 12 (quizzes timed) and this is 10 percent
If you care about your GPA at all DO NOT consider this class. You can try to keep up with the chapter readings and her lectures but her exams are tough and are filled with tricky wording. She won't curve the class even when most of the class is failing so don't expect to pass.
Im obviously not the only one having problems with this class. Many of my peers that were straight A students are failing so badly because her grading policy is terrible. If you have reached this message, PLEASEEEEE for the love of GOD save ur GPA and ur family. Out of 280 students from my class about 150 people is bordering failing or failing.
This is the worst science class I have taken in all my years of education. Don't put yourself through this pain, its not worth the stress. Throughout the whole semester I considered dropping out on a daily basis because of this class. If you do decide to enroll in her class, you will be in my prayers.
If you take this class good luck and may god be with you I took this class and it was the worst class Ive ever had
I dont know I what it is about this professor, she teaches us like we all phds, like no most of us are fresh out of HS, and her tests arent even remotely the same as the slides/recordings/homeworks. Its like teaching physics and the whole test is about atoms. This class is a joke, this is will be the worst experience in ur college career. PASS
PLEASE NO OK JUST TRUST ME. NO NO NO AND NO PLEASE NO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD NO JUST NO. NOOOOOOOOOOOO PLEASEEEEEEEEEE.
If you need to take this course for whatever reason, DON'T take it at this school. Tests are completely unfair and randomized, so some students do better or worse than others. If the majority of the grades are in the 60s, there's clearly something wrong going on with instruction. You don't need to have so MUCH stress when taking this course.
To reiterate the last students comments, please talk to your advisor and do NOT take this course in this school if u are required to take this pre-requisite class. You are limited to this professor and salamatbad which are both nightmares to take. They take You pay for what you get to a new level, please stay at least 200 miles away from this!
U know how professors are supposed to help you learn the material and make you understand the material. This would be the exact opposite of prof cheema. She makes her tests more complicated than they need to be. She is very random, like at the start she said we would be tested on slides but the avg said otherwise (50), she talks too much & is bad
Don't take this professor's class. Nearly entire grade was determined by 3 lecture exams that were unnecessarily hard. Questions are all critical thinking, not knowledge based. Study really hard and you still won't pass. Lab saved me. Told the class she would curve exam grades, instead curved final grade that included lab grade. Much lower curve.
So sad this professor sets students up for failure. Shame on her and CUNY.
I am in love with her.
Get ready to read, work hard and study the depths of micro. Go below the surface and fundamentally understand the material in the textbook based on her slides. Attention to detail is a very important part of doing well. No substitute for hard work here. Lab is a huge part of your grade and a class all on its own. Expect a low curve.
Nope!
Lab is an important part of your grade, do near perfect to give you some leeway for the class exams. Tests are in depth class material. The exms are critical thinking and application. Focus on what she says in class rather just on the slides or the book (study recorded lectures). She is willing to work with you, and listens to students. Hard class
Dr. Cheema is extremely knowledgeable and always gives good lectures. She allows you to record them, so if you focus on the recordings and use the textbook to fill in any gaps, you should be fine. However, this was the hardest class I've taken at Queens, even harder than Organic Chemistry.
She talks so much extra information during the lectures.. she says like 10x more than you actually need to know. BORING class. HARD tests. LOAD heavy material. Record her lecture!!!!! Do not take this class by choice. Only take it if you absolutely need it.
Literally RUN. only way you'll pass is if you do near perfect in lab, don't take her lab section either. Tests were ridiculously hard, class average ALWAYS LOW 60s. Study for days, still wont pass. All she does is ramble in lecture about random things, would say record, after 5 minutes im not paying attention anymore. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE.
Dr. Cheema's class is challenging, but if you put in the work - read the textbook, watch the recorded lectures, and use study aids like unstuckstudy - you can succeed. The exams focus on critical thinking, so be prepared to apply what you've learned.
Don't take her class, read other comments from other students, alot of Asian professors studied in their countries for most of their young lives and the curriculum in Asian countries are tougher than the American system.
