Attendance a must. Labs are easy but confusing at times because he doesn't give a lot of details unless you ask questions. He is very nice and approachable for help. Test were easy as long as you put in the work to study and practice. HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR CSE 1320.
He's fairly new to teaching but he's not that bad. He's always willing to help. He speaks very softly so sitting at the front of the class is a must. The exams are challenging but if you did the homework you should be fine. Practice a lot on your own helps. Overall, probably the best CSE 1320 teacher at UTA.
One of the best professors of CSE 1320 in UTA.
I really wish his class could speak for the rest of my UTA CSE experience. He IS new but really tries and does fairly well. Lectures were clear and to the point and he was very approachable if you didn't understand something. Highly recommend, shame he doesn't teach more classes.
There are random pop quizzes, so pay attention to the material. He can explain some material in an easy to understand way, and other material he makes harder than it has to be. Honestly, I learned most of the material by studying on my own and going over slides, because I could never hearunderstand him.
His lectures and mostly powerpoints are helpful. If you ask the TA or the teacher, they will let you resubmit quizzes and labs for more grade. TA is better at explaining but its really not that hard class. Test is kind of hard but you get a lot of credit for trying. Show little effort and you will for sure pass the class(easy b)
He explained everything when someone was in doubt. I loved his class. He made it easy!!!
He's a pleasant professor and teaches the logic well, but when test time comes around, the material on the tests don't really reflect the lectures and labs well. The instructions for labs aren't always very specific and clear. He gives a lot of pop quizzes, so attendance is pretty important.
He clearly explains the logic behind the material but his accent may be a burden for some. Attendance is not required but if you are not fluent in coding, it is almost necessary to go to class. He does give pop quizzes but those are not too difficult. The tests are about as difficult as quizzes as well. The labs are the hardest but there is help.
He is a vey good professor. I made an A by working hard and learning all his lecture. Attendance is important because you learn the power points.
He was one of the best instructor I've had. You should mostly focus on his lectures for the tests. The labs take time.
Dr Datta is very soft spoken and has a thick accent; therefore, you must sit in front row to understand him clearly. I personally was never able to adjust to his teaching style which made it tough on me. Labs are time consuming but luckily you'll get full credit as long as it works. A lot of pop quizzes!
Took the Computer Networks class in the summer, 5-week class. 7 quizzed were 70% of the grade, some were pop quizzes. Two projects, easy. This was a pretty easy class, and he curved at the end.
Great Professor! Class is easy if you attend class. Tests are easy also but mainly because he is a very good teacher and knows his subject.
Extremely caring and helpful person. Wonderful professor with great attitude.
One of the best professor of CSE in UTA.
Not much to say. Pretty knowledgeable.
He's a great teacher, he really makes sure the class follows his lecture or he won't move on. He is the best instructor for CSE 5344.
If you're gonna take his class don't expect an easy A. He will make you work for it. His lectures are very clear and also interesting.
Dr. Datta is great. He is hard to understand sometimes but gives lots of real-life examples. Project is applicable to the course. Great Professor.
If you take the course seriously and attend classes regularly, you'll never forget the knowledge. Sajib is simply awesome.
I enjoyed the class. Very helpful professor.
it was a great class. Interactive. I learnt a lot.
Greatly enjoyed the class.
Dr. D is the best professor for CSE 1320. He keeps things fresh and interesting while using tons of real-life examples. Although his labs are challenging, you will learn a lot.
Great Professor! Class is extremely fun and enjoyable if you attend class. He is a very helpful teacher, puts his heart and soul into teaching, and knows his subject.
Prof. Datta is truly inspirational. His 1 minute meditation ritual at the beginning of each class was totally refreshing. It's now part of my daily routine. His lectures are on point, full of examples. Much recommended.
Dr. D is the professor that every student should take class under. He provides real life examples. He explained pointers in C so clearly that all my fears about pointers just disappeared. Best of the professors in UTA.
His passion for CS and programming is truly inspiring. He would put 100% to make us understand even a simple programming problems. Awesome class, I would recommend to everyone.
Dr. Datta is an awesome teacher. He clearly explained all the relevant concepts of computer networks with real-life examples and analogies. His 1 minute meditation session is life changing for me, it helped me to improve my focus. Much respect and best wishes.
Most memorable class of my student life.
Dr. Datta is one of the best professors at UTA. He expects a lot, but is a fair grader. By the end of the semester you will be astonished by the wealth of knowledge you have accumulated. Truly an incredibly great prof.
It was a good course and I learnt a lot. I am looking forward to take more classes with prof. Datta.
Dr. D is confident, laid back, nice, good looking and down to earth. Really cool guy. His gradings are fair. Very informative and interesting and you will have fun in his class.
My second course with Dr. Datta. By far the best and most fun set of classes I have ever taken.
Interesting class, had lots of fun. Amazing guy, he starts the class with a quick one minute meditation.
Pretty knowledgeable. I like the way he teaches. Very interested in helping you actually learn the course content and about wireless networks as a career. Attendance is not required, but concepts and examples discussed in the class are important for the quizzes.
Nice lectures! Thank you Prof. Datta.
Truly excellent material. High quality education from someone who clearly knows what he's talking about. In class mediation is a bonus!
Dr. D is a very good and easy to understand professor. I'm pretty amazed by the quality of the material delivered by him. He does a great job laying out what you are doing and why. The course is very clear and covers a large amount of content.
Emphasizes meditation which was nice. Lectures from powerpoints and occasionally goes in depth but his accent makes it boring and more complicated. Throws you the coding software you need and doesn't show you how to effectively use it or give code examples using it, so you are on your own even when it comes for the first lab. Gives pop quizzes.
Great lectures. Dr. Datta is very positive and organized. He explains complicated concepts very easily with real-life examples. His practice problems, exams and labs are full of interesting problems, and couple of them I found in my internship interview. I aced my interview and got that summer internship. Many thanks to the professor.
I have taken both 5344 and 5345 class under him. He is very cool and his 1 min of meditation practice in the class is something really unique about him. He conducts POP quizzes so you have to always be prepared in the class. His explanation is very clear and easily understandable. Tests in 5344 were pretty difficult but 5345 quizzes can be cracked.
Dr. Datta is a very laid back professor. He made us meditate everyday before class and it really helped. His lectures are really helpful because he breaks down some of the harder concepts. The labs are tedious but you have plenty of time to complete them. His exams are usually about 5-7 questions and the majority require writing code.
Great lecture. That was my very first course on computer networking. Dr. D explains things pretty simply and easily. I enjoyed the class.
Very cool and motivating professor!!! lectures are explained clearly and he doesn't mind going over it to make sure you understand. Homework labs are not too bad. Tests are quite challenging and complex so be sure to study hard. Don't be scared away by the grade of 1st test as he gives you opportunity to better performance. You will learn a lot!
Beware of pop quizzes, be prepared every day. Since it is a basic level course, lectures might turn out to have information you already know.
His lectures are amazing. I would take another class with Dr. Datta in a heartbeat.
Is really very good professor I really liked his class I would take him again ^_^
If you make sure to focus on what he covers during the lectures, the exams will be doable.
He is a great professor that implement the idea of meditation which he ask us to do before each class. He throws pop quizzes at random (beginning or end of class). If you do your practice, exam review from last semester and lab, you should do well on the exams. Don't let grades scare you, he curves. I am glad he gave us bonus reading project!
Dr. Datta is very motivating, his outgoing personality makes the class enjoyable. He curves, allows for bonus projects, and is understanding. Spend time refining your Labs, practice your programming and you will do fine!
Dr. Dattas a real gem of a professor. At the end of the course, he will give you a bonus project which helps you by almost half a Letter grade. Lectures are with the help of presentations and explanations. He knows what hes doing and has answer to most doubts. Attendance is not mandatory perse, but he conducts quizes randomly.
Is extremely sarcastic if any question is asked, as if you should already know the answer. And instead of answering question will basically make fun of you for not knowing, Also does his examples with really small handwriting on white board instead of computer and usually if you input the code he writes on the board it will most likely be wrong.
This professor is really awesome. Although his accent is little bit unclear, he is really good at his lectures. Also, has powerpoints and slides. Exams and quizzes are little tough but he curves a lot in the end.
Great teacher. Learnt a lot on data structure. He explained complex concepts of linked list and tree quite simply.
He doesn't require attendance but has pop quizzes every couple lectures, usually at the start or end of class, there is no way to make them up if you don't have an excused absence. Test are a bit difficult since its hand written code but he gives you many practice problems. He makes the class mediate before lecture so we can feel good.. really good
Dr. Datta's lectures are very straightforward and easy to work along with. Tests are lengthy for the amount of time given because they are handwritten, but he provides sample exams and practice problems he pulls from. Pay attention in class to the topics he stresses. He's very helpful to students and responds to emails quickly.
Very cool professor, curves heavily at the very end. Tests can be difficult so do all the practice questions and fully understand each lab assignment. My biggest complaint is that the labs became very repetitive and I started to lose interest because Labs 3-6 were nearly the exact same program except we had to use a different data structure
Last semester. Was 5 labs (HW) at 25%, became 6 labs at 30%. Was 2 exams at 15% each, became 10% for 1st, 15% for 2nd. Final is departmental/comprehensive at 30%. Pop quizzes (unannounced) at 15%. Bonus was an extra 3 pts. added to final total grade. If you know how to code in C, then easy course, if not, practice. Professor Datta was alright. -_-
His blockchain class is fantastic. Gives real-life projects but exams are tough. Learned a lot.
Dr. D is fantastic and his teaching is epic. I love him.
Fails to give clear expectations. Fails his responsibilities to his students. Did not teach subjects that were on the departmental final. Refuses to use school's learning management system (Canvas). Uses a google drive for class material. Does not give feedback on quizes or tests. Holds pop quizes at the end of class. Does not let you keep tests.
His lectures are easy to follow but quizzes are super hard. At the end he curves greatly. I would recommend Prof. D's class to everyone.
He is the best professor of computer networks at the department. Had a fabulous learning experience.
Great professor! He is a real gem and he tries his best to answer all the questions. Class is extremely interactive, you will understand the material very well.
Take Dr. D's class if you want to learn to code various data structures. The topics are not easy but he gives you the tools to succeed. As long as you put in the time and effort, you will leave his class knowing a lot. He is also super fun and friendly person.
He is the best! He knows that the course material is difficult and is very understanding about that. He is also always there for help if you ask for help and if you don't understand something. There is a lot of work in CSE 1320 but you will learn a lot. Love prof. D.
I took the blockchain and cryptocurrency technology class with Dr. D. He provided hands on assignments where we were testing real life scenarios rather than toy projects. He runs extra miles to help you out.
Professor Datta actually made C programming fun, learnt a lot this semester.
Undoubtedly and unarguably the best professor in the CSE department. The organization of his course is really excellent such that you learn various concepts of computer networking and its applications. His teaching style is very easy to follow so everyone can understand his lectures. I highly and strongly recommend his class for any CSE students.
Dr. D is the best choice for CSE 1320. He helps a lot and his lectures are very easy to understand as he transforms diagrams, problem scenarios, and story-line into C code. If you attend all the lectures and do labs and practice, you will pass the class with flying colors.
Prof. D is the best - he knows his stuff very well and is very patient and helpful with students answering questions seven days a week. I left this class with a deep knowledge and understanding of blockchain, consensus algorithms, mining, cryptocurrency, and security. Thanks to the prof.
Hands down the best professor at UTA. I learned so much from going to lectures. Professor Datta is very engaging. I was so looking forward to going to his class Mondays and Wednesdays because of how fun it was. To be honest, I had to cut short my long weekend Vegas trip just so I wouldn't miss his class (I wouldn't do it for any other class).
I never ever thought I would be able to code this well! And now here I am a month after the semester and I just finished writing a game in C! Sajib posts everything we do in class online and it really helps me review. He is super helpful, whenever you ask for help he always goes out of his way to make sure all my questions are answered.
Professor Datta is a charming guy! He understands his students' struggles and visual learners will definitely like Mr. Datta's teaching style. Despite this, the class is definitely tough. There are pop quizzes and the exams are also incredibly challenging. Do practice coding lot outside of class and make sure to ask questions when needed.
Monotonous and mumbles in lecture makes it hard to understand him sometimes. Great person just super boring. Grades: 70% (pop) quizzes/30% projects so be on top of the material of chapters to stand a chance at passing. He expects about 5.5/10 score average on quiz, so epic curve comes at end. Projects are easy.
This was the second time I took a class with Dr. D. His powerpoint came from the textbook and explain with relative examples for the concepts. Quizzes are challenging and tricky, but getting a 6/10 lands you at a good place. I recommend this professor to anyone, great curve at the end and even dropped a quiz I missed.
Great at breaking down and explaining. Goes really slow which is good if you are new to programming. Exams were on the tough side with Lockdown browser and webcam. 5 HWs which were fairly simple. Recommend taking him for JAVA.
He explains things slowly and really understands the perspective of a new coder. Going over common errors when he brings up new material is very helpful. His response times when you email him is fairly quick even at later hours. Highly recommended for those very new to coding.
He is the best in CSE 1320!! Explained everything so simple and clear. Enjoyed lectures with him. AND HE CURVES GRADES!!!
He is a good professor, he may be good for the CSE classes but for INSY?? Nope! His exam consists of debugging and coding. But the catch? U gotta do it on a text editor so u can't see what mistake you have made. It makes it difficult for people who are beginners at Java. You really need to grind in this class. Also does the same for INSY 3304 FYI
3 Exams and Quiz. Exams are T/F, MC and short answers questions which is stupid. He doesnot provide any reviews and is not sure about his own syllabus. He might change exam dates so confirm with him you never know. Assignments were comparatively easy . Had to watch his video twice/ thrice and study . Overall he makes it tough for this easy class
Don't know why this prof has such a good rating. His quizzes were a joke. His quizzes were impossible and some of the questions didn't even ask a clear question. His lectures were so hard to watch because he explained things terribly and unclearly. We had a 10 question quiz every week, 30 minute time limit. Just take another prof for this class
Horrible. Quizzes are worth 70% and projects are worth 30%. Quizzes are a nightmare because you never know what is going to be on them, and the questions don't make sense sometimes. Lecture videos from one of the semesters prior, and he would sometimes skip over sections that would be on the quiz. TA and professor would also give conflicting info
Im new at Java, he graded our tests and exams very harshly. He teaches as if he is just reading something from a book.. not very helpful, i had no help whatsoever. Do not take his class. i struggled to pass his class... his final sucked! u have 5 homeworks and 3 exams.
I can't... he graded our homework on the smallest mistakes, which made us all lose marks, Unfortunately students who knew Java before hand passed this class with ease. If you are a beginner do not take it with him. There's no opportunity to grow and learn with this professor.
The class consists of 3 exams and 5 HW assignments. The1st two exams were comparatively easy, but the final which is 35% of the grade is hard, and time consuming, you will need at least two hours just to type the code in the note editor. I had an A until the final exam, so get ready to write hours of codes. No idea about face to face class though.
Since this course was his first time teaching and I had a hard time following his instructions.
Avoid this professor if possible, he treats his courses like it's an engineering intro course trying to weed you out. He doesn't give any extentions at all even if you have legitimate circumstances, stating that the work is easy you can get it done. When his class average is 60% you know he relies on curves rather than having clear instruction.
Avoid him at all costs. Exams are extremely difficult and the project does not have clear instructions. Even the TA doesn't know what to grade. The material is not tough but he made this class super difficult. Please do not take him!
Waste of time and money! The entire class is structured around self-learning.
I was honestly so scared to take him for Java after reading the reviews, but he is by far the best INSY professor I have had at UTA. He teaches by making you code a lot of different programs during class. The tests require coding programs and debugging. Definitely would take him again, he genuinely cares about his students.
HWs are easy but you might need help from online sources to complete it. Exams are mostly writing code on a notepad(without IDE i mean), in lockdown browser. Although tests are hard, he goes easy while grading. Watch lectures/attend class and do hands on coding while he lectures in class, one of the best ways to learn coding. He's a good professor!
His teaching is amazing. Learned a lot about various DW tools. Course contents are hard so you will have to focus and go through the lectures few times. Also, pay attention to the class discussion, very useful for the tests. Honestly, I was scared at the beginning but now I am willing to take this professor again if I find an opportunity.
Don't look anywhere else. For Data Warehouse, take his class if want to understand concepts better or just want a good grade. He curves. His class is easy to follow, he doesn't grade tough, and he responds well outside of class. He actually cares about your grade and you. He makes exceptions for his students and is very understanding.
Honestly you get what you put in. I didn't know coding existed like a semester ago and he taught this class so well. He really cares about his students and made things so easy for us this semester. He helped us on HWs and made things easier on tests. He also will help you even on weekends if you ask. He really cares about you and your success.
I have taken this professor for 2 semesters (INSY 5335 and INSY 5337) and I do not regret it! He is forgiving and understands our difficulties. He does partial credits and is always responding to emails quickly. For INSY 5337, he does couple projects which are good to put on your resume! Got an internship. Take him!!
Awesome professor. Take Dr. D to understand OOP and GUI. He teaches the building blocks and fundamentals first and saves larger topics for last. His assignments are super clear and as long as they work, you can do them however way you want. Overall, his class is easy to follow, he doesn't grade tough, and he responds well outside of class.
He is always willing to make time to meet with students, even during after hour. I had meeting with him once a week and he always answered my questions clearly and patiently. None of my other professors seem to actually care about me learning as much as he does. LOVED this professor!!
What an amazing and caring professor! Honestly cares about your success and have high expectations for you. Very fair and personable. He obviously enjoys the course he teaches.
Excellent professor. Take him to understand Hadoop and Hive. He teaches traditional DW first, he starts with the building blocks and saves larger topics for last. His assignments are extremely clear and as long as you work, you can complete them and consequently learned a lot. If something comes up, he will accommodate it so no one has to stress.
Dr. D is the best professor I have ever had, I can say that with one thousand percent certainty!!
Best professor in the department with amazing lectures. Take him if you really want to learn computer networking. He is the best choice for CSE 5344. His teaching techniques are super effective.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. His class averages 4 - 5.5. He depends on the curve. And he does not curve much. If you are at 69, he will curve you to 70%. In the class, he said 5.5 is good and that he will drop the lowest marks. HE DID NOT. He said attendance was not mandatory. Yet, he took attendance which was 10% of the whole grade. DO NOT take!
If all professors were as good at teaching as he is, cared about students' success as much as he does, and as responsive to students' questions as he is then the world would be a much better place!
Dr. D is perhaps the most amazing professor I've had hands down. He takes the time to help you make sure you understand the materials, he has a fair grading system, and is unpredictable sometimes in the best ways. Take him if you want an awesome teacher, who knows what he is doing and always makes sure all his students are successful.
Took him for 4305, the best INSY professor in UTA. Highly recommend taking him, as his programming experience, lecture, and his homework make you a better programmer. He is always there to help, and he also prepares you very well for all the tests you will take. Attend all lectures.
This class wasn't easy but Dr. Datta provided power points with every step of the code which was EXTREMELY HELPFUL!!!!!! so even if you fell behind you could go back to catch up. I really enjoyed him this semester!
I don't even understand why his rating is 5. Is someone spamming? Ask anyone around who took his class. They suffered. The class average was 6 / 10.
The professor does not have proper knowledge of what he is teaching. He just reads the slides. Teaching level 2/10. Assignment level 9/10. If you are good with self-learning and want a time pass class, he is the one. very shallow. shall never recommend him.
NEVER EVER TAKE HIS CLASS. MY BIGGEST MISTAKE. DOESNT TEACH WELL. GIVES ASSIGNMENTS WHICH HE NEVER TAUGHT. TAKES SUDDEN ASSIGNMENT QUIZZEZ THOUGH HE SAYS ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY. -5 OUT OF +5.
This professor is a joke... He will NOTTTT accommodate you in any sort of way for your exam even if you have an actual emergency! He does not care about his students at all. DO NOT take him! Take anyone else except him
He's a great professor for learning actually coding. I appreciate the pace and practice you get in class. Tests are absolute nightmare fuel. And consists of remembering syntax without the benefit of error msgs/auto fill. If I had a choice I'd take him for intro lvl classes. Going from theory heavy prof to program heavy has been awful.
By far one of the worst professors for Networks. 7 Pop quizzes worth 70% of your grade are given throughout the semester and he provides little indication of what topics are going to be on it. Even when studying the slides, the quiz content is often much farther in-depth than he covers in class. You will learn much more with a different professor.
Doesn't cover material for the projects and expects self-study for most of it. Pop quizzes almost every week with only 10 questions that take up 70% of the grade, each quiz is worth 10%(!) of the final grade. Quiz questions are terribly worded and ambiguous. If you take him, study ahead and don't miss class, even if you're asleep during it.
One of the hardest and worst professors. He will just read and barely explain the slides in the lectures and ask totally different questions in the quiz. Attendance is not mandatory but will randomly have pop quizzes. Projects are confusing with vague instructions and the TAs are not much help either. Please do anything but don't take his class.
He just reads the slides. Initially attendance was not mandatory but at the end of the semester he counted it. I was in constant touch with the professor since the start of the semester because of poor grades for help and he always replied me that "I will drop 1-2 quizzes and will also curve so don't worry!" but he didn't (just dropped 1 quiz).
Honestly his teaching style is great because hes giving you experience with Java rather than just going through the textbook. As long as you attend class and follow along with his powerpoints the HW and exams are not too bad
Does not follow his syllabus!! Professors have the right to change the syllabus but he never updated it to keep you in the loop. Also, doesn't accommodate students with disabilities, which is illegal but the university doesn't care. Try to avoid! His ego is up to the rooftop and he cares more about his university research than teaching students.
The worst professor I have taken. 7 unannounced quizzes with about 10 poorly worded and ambiguous questions (no partial credit) that make up 70% of your grade. He'd ask us why something was done a certain way, and people who answered correctly would just be reading off his slides. His sentence formation made things unclear, in lectures and quizzes.
Please don't take him as ur professor.. choose another if u love your life.
Please, if you can, do not take this professor. He reads off his lectures, and the way he does his exams and pop quizzes is just word vomit. Ask him a question, and he does not provide an answer. Most of the exam questions are short responses. The resources he provides for exams do not translate well for exams. Resources are helpful, though.
Don't take him. He just reads off the slides without explaining anything, and he'll throw in unannounced quizzes. The exams are nothing like what he covers in class, and the resources don't help much. Exam averages are all below 60%. Don't know how he has 5 out of 5 ratings?!?
He strictly reads from the slides without providing additional explanations or context, making it hard to understand the material fully. He often gives unannounced quizzes, so you have to stay constantly prepared. The exams are completely different from what's covered in class.
let me set the scene: exam 2, 2 weeks of studying, got a 9.5/25. the highest score in the class was still a failing grade. noone deserves to be subjected to this treatment. in my personal opinion everyone in this class should be passed on the simple basis that we deal with his bs.hope they find another professor for this class so yall can avoid him
He goes directly off the PowerPoint when teaching the class so it's easy to learn and catch up outside of class. He does not test us on what we learn he adds in extra questions or code we were never taught so even after learning everything you'll still struggle. The textbook isn't helpful he does not follow it. He has random attendance quizzes.
Tough class with frequent pop quizzes that make up most of the grade. Lectures are dry, but Unstuck AI can help with prep. Do the readings and don't miss class - this professor is challenging but manageable with dedication.
The hardest professor and class I've taken by far. This class made me so anxious I had to go to a psychiatrist to prescribe me anxiety medicine antidepressant because I was crying everyday
Exams are designed around impossible time constraints/complex problems that are essentially entire projects, that guarantee you'll never get past a 70. Alongside pop quizzes dropped right after shallow lectures, he sets the entire class up to fail. He supposedly adds a curve but at the very end of the semester when you can no longer drop. Horrible.
Teaching is off. His communication is seriously challenging. Forgetful all the time. Course is a mixed bag of trivia.
This is a very mentally taxing course. This course feels kinda RNG-based, for the exams the average was a 7 out of 25, that alone should let you know what you're in for. Goodluck.
Worst Professor ever n told us that the curve will be end of class and that if we have anything lower than a 40 thats a fail and only reason he would let someone pass is that if they're graduating this semester. Heard he is going to be the head of Info Systems now and taking Prof. Koshys job. Plz do not let that happen or else everyones cooked.
