If your cluless...Sal may be able to help you. If you've got a basic clue> this is a fun, open minded and well educated teacher. He is very NON-condescending.I learned alot and had fun, Now you try!!!
HOWl!!!!!!!!!!! some people think his class is completely ****s. but let me tell you something, after taking he's class i feel i have learned alot of stuff that i've never learn before with the other instructors. this teacher totally encourages creativity not to mention a friend of his.mrShirley
Brieter..... seriously he is the best.. I have taken all of his classes just for the fun of it. His classes are a really good learning experience and his lectures are NEVER boring. Easy and very helpful!! A Definite must take!!!!!
great instructer. 'A' as long as you go to class for the lectures. i barely read the books, but the tests are based on those readings. grading fairly easy, mostly on participation, alot of somewhat boring excercises, but at least its well meaning. very recomended
Both of these classes were inspiring... I'm slowly learning how to be naked.
Sal is a hella laid back teacher. class was hella easy, lots of group work and discussion. we graded our weekly work and doesnt care that u give urself 100%, cuz that's how we express our creativity or something. should've learned more but it was too early so i slept 85% of the time and i got an A.
seriously, sal was probably the best teacher ive had of my life. i had to drop the class because of health issues, and now i live somewhere else, but i recently realized that sal is the first teacher ive ever actually missed. he was an amazing instructor, and truly cares about his students.
The salmeister brings the A game everyday. His great dicision making skills inspire me to focus on the more important aspects of life. Man what a great looking fellow, I hear he has like 3 other sexy brothers.
Such a fun class! It made the early morning class time worth it. Sal is a fantastic techer with much knowledge of the topic. He teaches Humanities, both Creative Mind, and Arts, Ideas and Values. Take it for fun, or take it because it transfers, either way, take it!!
in all my time at deanza.. sal was the only teacher that i can truely say.. i came to class everyday not because he made me with quizes and random attendence..but because i WANTED to.. Loved his class.. wish he taught every subject at deanza haha
I think this class could be an easy A if you just **** it, but it's worth SO MUCH more to actually do the experiments, which are thought provoking and fun. Sal really knows how to relate to his students and put important concepts in context. A great class for self exploration and FUN!
He's just awesome, no other way to really describe him. He's hip, knowledgeable, and gives great, though provoking and passionate lectures.
HES A AWESOME TEACHER WITH A AWESOME TEACHING STYLE....IM GLAD I GOT A CHANCE TO TAKE ONE OF HIS CLASSES SO FAR, ADN IM DEFINITELY TAKING MORE! KEEP IT UP MAN....YOUR ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS ON THAT CAMPUS...WELL THE BEST TEACHER SO FAR FOR ME
He is really an awesome teacher. Very clear in teaching. If there is anything that you do not understand at all, just visit him during office hours and he will surely help you. Even the way he teaches is great because he makes you want to read the book and learn it. Great teacher enough said.
He is the only teacher that I have ever had that encourages independent thought...that teaches more than any professor that stands in front of you and expects you to believe everything he/she says. I would highly recommend his class.
He is funny and cool. But you get a lot of reading stuff. Class is easy if you do your homework.
Salamander is THE man. He is on top of his game and he brings it everyday. Amazing. You have to come to class with an open mind because he will challenge your view of truth. After you take his classes, you will never look at the world the same way again. HOWWWLLLLLL!!
This guy sucks. Sure, he's fun and nice but there's SOOO much reading and SOOOO much stuff due every week. NOT an easy A. ONLY if you actually do ALL the work which is ALOT! Trust me, I know what an easy A is and he's not it. YOU GOTTA WORK FOR IT!! TOO MUCH STUFF DUE EVERY WEEK!!! NOT FOR SLACKERS!
all i can say is take him. he is creative as hell. open minded as well and makes jokes that are actually funny. he is both eros and logos. what better teacher can you wish for. easy A but the most important thing is that you learn to view the world differently. if you wanna see for reals take his class. i think he is the hero's adventure.
The only reason why I gave it a 3 for ease was because in this class, you always ALWAYS have something due. And if you're lazy and never went to class then it sucks. However, I aced EVERY test because they were open note. Class was cool but there's NO point in showing up. Only reason y I went was to turn stuff in. GET NOTES FROM OTHERS!
There is a good amount of reading and stuff to do but it's not actually that hard. The tests are open note and from his lectures which aren't boring at all. funny and challenges u to be creative which isn't something every teacher or class does. take this class u will be enlightened. HOOOOWWWLLLLL!!!
Hella easy, hella funny. Take him.
Sal was awesome. This guy's funny and open-minded. There is a lot of reading, but as long as you have good notes for the open-note exams, then you'll be fine. Also, he's always willing to take time to listen to you. Highly recommended.
"I promise I will never tell you The Truth." hey he is right! it's up to you to choose whats truth or not. his humi1 was alot fun for me since my grp was alot more active and creative. Humi16 was a bit hard since the midterms were all short essays. Take Him, I personally Recommended him! Thanks so Much INstructor!! not Professor! A+++++ instructor!
Sal is awesome! I love him. He's one of the best teachers ever. You learn so much from him. The class is fun. The material is so interesting. He gives you the opportunity to be creative and to step out of your comfort zone. Very easy to get an A if you are not too lazy. Sal is awesome! God bless you Sal..(it's K.V..=)..)
Yes, there is alot of work, but that work is actually very interesting. I'd definitely recommend his class to everyone but it's not a sit-in-class-and-get-an-A type of deal. You really have to work. Sal is so understanding. I had alot of family problems when I took him but he was sooo understanding and ended up giving me a "C" for all the work I could turn in. Highly recommend!!
this guy is the coolest teacher ive ever had. he makes class interesting by interacting with the students and explains things in a way that everybody understands.

you can read below. SAL IS THE MAN! HE WANTS TO GIVE YOU AN 'A'! class has structure and is very engaging so the work is not looked at as "work". at least i didnt. interesting. good teacher.
He's the most awesome teacher I've ever taken! He challenges your thoughts about the world. His class opened my eyes to things I never thought about! STRONGLY RECOMMEND!! The work is consistent,no surprises, so it's not hard...no matter what anyone says! just keep on top of your work. He's very involved, which I love about his teaching. GO BREITER!
Sal is a total hottie! take his class
i took humi1 wiht him before and i came back for more. he's a real cool dude.
There is a decent amount of reading and work to do. You can't really BS cuz he'll know. Grades fairly easy and great lectures. And he's pretty funny too. Would highly recommend.
Sal, you are the best! Very friendly and helpful instructor. He has great sense of humor. The most interesting lectures about art and ideas in art I've ever listened to.
Sal Rocks. Whatever you do take his class. he is a great guy funny, resepcts your opinion in class he just rocksssss.
breiter=easy teacher. tests are short-answer. easy grader as long as you cover the info. grades on quality not quantity. lots of group projects, not that stressful and they're fun to do too. daily readings, looks at "da box" you need to read in order to do well. get to use reading wksts for exams, entire back pg for notes. lots of xtra credit!
I don't think I can sum him or his class up. Take it. You will be blown away. Elevate your "learning" -an enlightening experience.
This has got to be one of the best instructors at deanza. take his course, you will be glad that you did. all exams are open note. if you want an A, you will get an A. Definitely not your normal class. A+.
Awesome instructor. Highly recommended. He's very fair and anyone can get an A if they pay attention, hand in their assignments and do the reading. He wants his students to succeed and will do what he can to assist them.
Sal is an awesome teacher. He makes the class very fun and interesting. He's very smart and is very open minded. As long as you do all the readings you'll do good in there. I strongly recommend this teacher.
Yes, there is a lot of reading, but the reader is very interesting. Breiter is the best teacher that I have had at De Anza so far. He is passionate about what he teaches and helps you whenever you need it. I was never bored in his class. Plus he cracks some funny jokes every now-and-then. I would highly reccomend anyone to take his class.
sal is the greatest teacher ive ever had in de anza!!!each lesson was very interesting and provocative. he makes you think about yourself and the world around you! his readings and lectures are very inspiring and i definitely recommend his class above all classes!i would have liked to take another class with him if i do not have to leave!!!!
Sal is by far the most inspiring teacher you will ever encounter at DA. His lectures are revelant to the subject matter, he engages you as a student, and his assignments are so personally involved that it makes you want to do them! Take this CLASS! IT will change your perspective on how a teacher SHOULD be!
This guy is awesome. Simply inspiring and you will be inspired. Fun and ground-breaking. You gotta take this class. No stress. You will have a different viewing of this world after all.
Awesome professor, I highly recommend this class. Remember to do all of the reading and take notes because his tests are open note tests. Honestly, you'd have to be a ****ing moron to fail this class. He's really nice and funny so you wont fall asleep, I learned a lot from his lectures.
Very Good Teacher. SAL is fun and makes you think differently. Both classes are easy if you just do the assigned work and reading.
Yeah, he is easy to get an A. But, make sure you do all the homework and take the lecture notes. The tests are open-note and not highly points for his grading actually, although I got like 75% on the first & second tests, he still gave me an A. This is because I did all the H.W. Take him and you will know how funny he is!
Take this class with him if you get the opportunity to. He doesn't care about his tests... he basically just uses his class as a platform for sharing his own ideas. This makes for a thought-provoking, entertaining class that really is no stress. Be sure to grab a seat in the front bc people easily get away with talking and its distracting.
Despite what he say today about direct referral being more affective than ratemyprofessor, I took his class because he got some great rating. So here goes: Although, it is very possible to get an A in his class, you actually have to work for it. A lot of reading, but if you do a decent amount, A for sure.
this dude is hella funny. I got B for this class without studying the textbook, but only did the HW. Lecture is chill and interesting. Prepare the notes for exam then u can get A..
Best teacher I've had at De Anza. Extremely passionate about teaching, and has a really good message he's trying to convey. Take the honors section of the course its worth it; and the difference is civic involvement and its not too difficult. Just do all the assignments. Hes really lenient about attendance but you'll end up wanting to go.
OMG, hes so hot. Think of a surfer/hot professor (smart) creative, family guy. Hes so cute, makes it easy to pay attention, fun lectures, down to earth. He plays music in class to analyze, and tests are able to make up. Changed my perspective on life.
Sal is one of the best teachers that I have ever taken. His lectures promoted a lot of thought. The book he uses can be a bore, but if you really take in what is says it might make you a better person. I highly recommend taking Salamander. Thanks for the great class Breiter.
ah this class was awesome mr brieter is awesome, he also runs his car on vegetable oil lols. It was all about "creativity". Just do the assignments, do the readings(questions on tests), do the extra credit. you will be fine. Id have to say you do alot of reading but I cant complain however deanza doesnt do buybacks on his books ;(
Sal is a good man whom I honor highly. He is engaging and thought provoking. His teaching style and methods are very powerful, especially to someone who has never been exposed to anything but normal lecture classes. I highly recommend Sal to anyone who thinks they might be in a rut. He'll shake you up just the right amount.
Hes the best teacher out there for Humanities 1! I took him over Spring 2006, he made me see another view point to life! Hes very thought-provoking, easy-going, and engaging teacher! He teaches you a truth, not the truth! He will give you another perspective to life! Easy A class, anyone can do it! Plus you will enjoy his activities! Take him!
THE best teacher I have taken yet! Attend all classes as the main fun lies there! this course is creativity, critical thinking, deep reflection on all life issues, social change all combined into one! He transforms you into not what you've wanted to become but what you can become (if only you dare to dream and act upto your MULTIPLE potentials!).
Sal is wonderful! Everytime I came into his class, his smile always made my morning. And to tell you the truth, I'm not a morning person and coming into an 8:30am class was too early for me, but it was always worth it. Also, I did tend to miss class often and he gives make-ups and accepts late homework. He's the best. I'd definitely take him again!
GREAT TEACHER!!! so motivational and fun! lots of reading but the test is common sense. u can also retake one test. experiements that are pratically free points. TONS of extra credit. loved the class!!! must take!
He is a GREAT teacher. If you ask him for help he will help you to the best of his ability and hes funny and amusing as well. Its kind of a lot of reading but as long as you do it you should be fine for your tests. Juts give yourself a good grade on the assignments and you should be fine. Highly recommended!!!!!! (:
Very cool guy!!! I look forward every morning to go to his class and hear what he has to say. Made me have a new outlook on life. Take notes on the readings and in class lectures. Doing all that will get you an easy passing grade. Class is big about 100 students. So enroll early. Wait-listed student usually don't get in. RECOMMENDED!!
You have to be a good teacher for me to pay attention about 50% of the time. He kicks my attention span up to about 75-80%. He's the kind of teacher I've been looking for. Totally all for hooking the students up within reasonable boundaries. I need to talk him into driving a biodiesel lotus exige.
i didn't even pass this class (because i missed a test/was living in my car) but i still think this teacher is an awesome person who makes the class easy yet thought-provoking. there is a lot of reading (which i completed) but you dont even need to read it all to pass. every class session is unique and keeps you interested.
Sal is awesome, cool, funny, you name it. Will keep you engaged and laughing, and actually enjoying the class. You will complete boundary-crossing experiments.. DO THEM, you'll be amazed at what you will discover! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
His class is so easy, so much extra credit added to your homework. His lectures are decent enough to keep you awake. Just as long as you pay attention you can pass the finals fairly easy. Dont worry, his finals are pretty chill.
AWESOME class, highly recommended, word load is decent. reading material is entertaining.
Easy class. Just show up and the 2 homework assignments each week.
He tries hard to make classes entertaining. Be prepared for huge amounts of reading though. Overall, I thought his class was cool. Some of the material was leftist but most professors are that way...
Most interesting and easiest class I have taken at De Anza so far. His topics are thought provoking and intriguing. There are readings every week and homework every week. Easy work and easy exams. Gives a lot of extra credit. Takes attendance everyday. Lectures on exams. Received an A+ without even really trying in the class. Highly recommended!
i hella loved his class.. he wasnt just a teacher but it was like he was so chill.. he was a friend too.. he knows how to communicate with students real well.. i got a A+ in his class.. i drew pictures of him almost everyday.. his class was deff intriguing.. just do the hw.. final is straight fwd.. u just do the readings n it'll be a piece of cake.
Sal is cool. pretty easy class just stay on top of reading. exams are pretty easy...just do the experiments and take care of the notecards...youll be good to go.
BREITER!!!!!!! MY MAN! =] I'm SO glad I took his class. The tests and assignments might look easy, but if you don't CARE enough to do the reading and do journals, don't expect to catch up on final day. He's VERY reasonable, ALL OF HIS STUDENTS are his favorites. He 's HILARIOUS! only class that I was excited to wake up for a 9:30am class! take him!
Although, I failed this class. The teacher is very nice and really knows what he is talking about. You have to read a lot, but that's ok. Personally, I am not a creative person so I am retaking the class later with my wife.
The easiest class ever! More than half of your grade are homework which are all BS. Put a little effort and you can earn all the points from assignments. Mid terms are easy as long as u scan through the book and listen the lecture. Yet, there are lots of readings so u must spend time reading them. Easy A+ and the best choice for GE!
This class was awesome it was my second time taking SAL and i had a blast. He is super opinionated and sometimes i left his class a bit irratated but for most part he stays open minded. I would def recommend this class to everyone
Sal is really knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches! Do your readings and index cards you're golden. It's a fun class and challenges you to look and think about things differently. Have an open mind about the class.
Sal rocks!!!! He is very knowledgeable. He is more than just tests and hw but encourages engaging and making a change. I highly recommend this teacher, he doesn't make school hard, just understandable.
Super fun class!I hav to admit that I enjoy going to this class. He's very knowledgeable and open minded. Assignments and tests are challenging but he grades very easy with tons of extra credit. He looks a little bit stuck up but he's really sweet and considerate. He always stresses you to have fun in his class. I think all the class has A+
Sal I know you're reading this. You rock man! First class in De Anza I actually learn something. Cut off the reading though, you're giving us headaches doing homework
Sal is such a wonderful teacher. His lectures are clear and very understanding. esay A midterms are common sence. you should take him for creative mind is fun and you'll enjoy going there everyday :D
A teacher that will do tumbles and turns to get you interested in the subject. I took this Pop Culture class and learned so much about real life things. Very hands on and interactive. Though the homework will be killer. You can still pass without doing it. Enjoyed and loved the class. AMAZING teacher ( :
This guy is the best teacher ever. If you open your mind to new ideas you will get an A for sure. He makes the class really fun!Funny Guy and interesting to listen to.
Awesome teacher! Best one ive had so far. Do the homework and you'll be fine. Very helpful, and approachable. Interested in what you have to say.
Extremely funny, tells great stories. Likes to swear, which only makes it more interesting. You actually have to read the books because his exams are based off of the books mostly. Offers a max of 30 extra credit pts. Has weekly work that needs to be done/turned in, but it's easy. extremely friendly, i recommend him.
Extremely funny, tells great stories. Likes to swear, which only makes it more interesting. 5 projects, that are all fun (i know it's rare)! exams are based off of the books mostly. took him for humi 1 and 6, great guy, easy going. i recommend him
"Twitterings of pleasure" ... haha. One of the most awesome teachers ever. He wants you to be real, speak your mind, be honest. That's really all you need to do well in this class. The homework is to give your two cents and be clear about it. One of the few classes that has actually affected the way I see life, rather than just some head knowledge.
Laid back class. Takes attendance by passing around sheet. Reading homework due once a week and creativity project once a week as well. The creativity projects are really easy and you then split into groups to talk about them. The class can be boring at times, but overall easy class. Take it.
He is an awsome teacher. his leacture and material are intersting. Tests are really easy too. but the readings were alot and the two books we had to read was really boring.
Sal is awesome. I wish I would have taken this class when I was younger, but oh well. As for the homewrok, you could easily knock out a weeks worth in one night if you set an hour or an hour and a half aside and get busy. Cracks me up when people complain about having to read at school.
Readings each night, show&tell each week, and 5 projects and 3 exams total. BUT, don't let all that scare you away. I was actually thinking about dropping this class earlier, but I?m really glad that I didn?t. All of these assignments went by like a breeze. Plus, Mr. Breiter is really caring, funny, and kind. This class is definitely a must take!
Sal is one the best professors I had. You learn so much from the class. His teaching method is unique and you actally get to think for yourself. Test are easy and so is the work.
Sal is amazing! He is the sweetest guy ever...I recommend taking one of his courses anyday. Not only is he caring and understanding but he can actually teach the material in an interesting way. BUT just because he's sweet and easygoing doesn't mean you can walk all over him. I saw his "Teacherman" side once... I literally wanted to cry- hahaha
this was my first quarter with sal and it was really a life-changing experience. as corny as this may sound, his class helps you think for yourself and to change the world little by little. i highly recommend this class! (if you enjoyed healy's psych classes you'll <3 breiter) for those complaining about reading: i doubt you regretted reading them!
Sal is such a cool, laid back guy! I was already excited going into his class but after taking it this past quarter, he completely changed the way I think! He pushes you to your limits. Without a doubt, he provokes thoughts! Def a teacher you should consider!!
Sal is Awesome! i love his class so much!we have lots of works to do in this classs but i ejoy his class a lot. His test is not hard :D if u go to class take the notes then you will get goood score he's the BEST teacher in DE ANZA
Sal is AWESOME!!!i really enjoy his class~~ he is funny and really takes care of his students! If i have a change to take his class i'll DO it!He is the best teacher ever!
He encourages change and promotes it. Does not like traditional style of teaching. Presents new ideas to think. But do not learn much. Books are good to read. But he is only delivering his opinions and some "cool" facts. Nothing really learned here.
He is TOO AWESOME!! I would take another class with him DEFINITELY! take him, you won't regret it. I learned a lot in his class and I really appreciate his tests and his teaching style in general!! Unforgettable teacher!!!!! TAKE HIM!
Sal is probably the most kind-hearted, energetic, and wacky prof at de anza! Take this class if you need a non-demanding/de-stressing class. There are 3 books(~250 pgs each) required for this class. Final NOT cumulative and 4 pgs of notes are allowed on all exams. Sal will only add 5-7 more students who are not on the WL.
AMAZING TEACHER! That simple. Really gets you interested from the get go. Very easy work and tons of extra credit! TAKE HIM!
Sal is amazing. He knows what he is talking about and is really entertaining. You wont regret taking him, he's the BEST humanities teacher at De Anza. Whenever I missed class, I felt really bad.. (that's how good he is). 3 books, 3 midterms including final. I ended up with an A.
SALAMANDEEZEE!! He's not the "handsome" brother, but he still ROCKS (lol - inside joke)!! Anyhow, definitely a teacher that treats his job as more than just any typical 9-5 occupation. "Students don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care!" He really puts HEART into his teachings because he cares for us!! (YOU ROCK, bro!!)
I loved him, and I'm never going to forget him. He makes you think, he makes you do your work, but he's amazing, there is absolutely no way that you're going to DISlike his class. You have GOT to take him if you take HUMIOO1. It was a pleasure having him as a teacher.
I like his class so much! He is a casual guy and the classes are very relaxing. He is an innovator to me who introduced me what creativity really is. You will never forget about his teachings. Tests and assignment are easy and fair. Highly recommended Professor Breiter!
this class has it's fun moments and it's boring moments. just do the reading and take notes and you'll do fine in the class. the exams aren't super hard if you do both. after this class, i was able to open up my mind more and think twice about stereotypes and all the other things we learn.
Sal is by far the most amazing instructor I have ever taken. He changed my world and completely changed the way I think. He is not your typical teacher...He will make you realize things youve never thought of before. Hands down the best class I have ever taken at De Anza, YOU HAVE TO TAKE HIM, YOU WONT REGRET IT!!
Sal is a cool teacher that makes you think about the world that we live in about things we don't usually think about daily. But, he's a very hard grader, tons of projects one after another and two exams that are really hard so if you want a good GPA I don't recommend him
Super easy class if you put in the effort. There's reading everyday and about 5 projects. As long as you stay on top of the reading and reading logs, you'll do fine on the exams. Class is usually interesting, sometimes boring. There is a good amount of work in this class but nothing hard. Sal is a great teacher!
He is a great teacher makes you think about a lot of stuff. His assignments are SUPER easy and his classes are never boring. Take him its all worth it. Just do your class work and go to class you get an easy A
His class was really interesting and he's really funny. Also if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, he's really nice about it. There's kind of a lot of reading and a bit of work, but if you keep up with everything, you can get at least a B. Highly recommend. =)
Sal is a good looking guy for his age but his grading his hard and he expects too much in every assignments he assigns and doesn't give you enough time to get it done and the exams are hecka hard not even related to the class discussions they he talks about during class and he plays favortism even though he claims that he's a fair person sounds goo
CLASS WORK= FUN, EASY, AND INTERESTING. TEST: READ THE BOOKS, AND YOU'LL ACE IT. TEACHER=FUNNY, AMAZING AND THE BEST TEACHER EVER!
He changed my perspective I on how I view the world. There are assignments due every week and require thinking outside the box. His tests are based from the books. He is a funny guy his lectures I didn't miss.
I kind of miss De Anza because of him. He was a tight teacher that was so chill and easy. You have to really not do any work to not get an A.
Amazing teacher. Helpful and so interesting. Left the class amazed, it's like a philosophy, sociology, awesomeness class all in one. He's hot too. ;)
He is a great teacher. Very nice. Each week is repetitive. Wednesdays, you talk about readings and Thursdays, group discussions. Rest of the time is taking notes but he makes his lectures very interesting. He includes video and slideshows sometimes. His tests are easy. Read and pay attention and do your work and you will pass. :) He also gives EC!
I am going to miss this class. He changes my view, character and I made very expensive life decisions because of the book he assigned "The Element" and "Waking on Water". He opens my mind to walk in water. He is a piece of cake, hot and my mentor:)
Never has a teacher so positively impacted my life & never have I enjoyed lectures to the extent I enjoyed Sal's. He's an amazing professor who encourages you to challenge the status quo. Sal really made me refocus my perspectives in life & brought to my attention things I never consciously thought about. I will be forever grateful!
I Love Sal's class. Very inspiring life lessons learnt from his energetic and interesting lectures+books. Easy yet heavy workload. 102% Recommend.
Just go to class, take notes and rewrite them to use on the tests. You have to read a few books though for the class
Take the class!! Best professor at De Anza. Class is repetitive, so you will never be lost, fun guy (his style is really refreshing, he is easy-going), extra credit, tests are super easy, reading is super easy, index cards ALSO super easy, but you have to think for yourself and cannot BS your way through. That's the catch. He's wonderful!!
Great Teacher.! A ton load of reading, but the readings are super interesting. I really enjoyed taking his class. If you want an A just make sure to turn in you assignments, take notes on his lectures, and videos (when he recommends it). Great Class, I really enjoyed it. Great Guy!
If this class was Church, I'd go every Sunday.
I never got bored in his class. I took notes whenever he gave lectures. He's not too heavy on lectures. He writes on the board a lot so it's very easy to take notes. I love his teaching style. He made the class fun & entertaining. His grading isn't too harsh. Multiple-choice exams based on class lectures & 4 books. The exams aren't cumulative. :-)
Favorite teacher. His class was always interesting, and easy to follow, but did require some personal thinking. Everyone should take his class! Epicness.
An inspiring teacher! I see the world differently after taking his class. His class is very interesting and surprisingly useful to my life. Fairly easy if you do all the required work and reading. Highly recommended!
Best. teacher. ever. hands down. This is my first review I've ever written for RMP and Prof. Breiter totally deserves it. He appreciates everyone's opinions and he's hilarious. Highly recommend
He's ABSOLUTELY my favourite "teacherman"! Very good teaching and responsible.Funny, humorous, full of passion.I took his class in my first quarter and he knew I had difficulties in the class because of my poor English and he really helped me a lot. Honestly his class is not easy(I got an A though)but you'll learn a lot. LOVE LOVE LOVE him!
No textbooks, but 3-4 novel-type books are necessary to do the weekly homework. Two midterms, one final, non-cumulative. I wouldn't say he's an easy A because even though the work isn't hard, it's quite a lot of reading and writing. Don't think you can slack! Made me see the world a little differently. Enjoyed the class a LOT.
Best class ever! Hands down, Sal is not only a good looking guy, he is a fantastic teacher. the tests can be a bit hard if you don't do the readings or pay attention to his lectures. The good thing is that he makes his class really interesting! Highly recommended!! He's such a sweetheart too ;)
He's an amazing professor! He doesn't use a textbook, but he uses a few novels. He's really nice, absolutely captivating, his tests are easy. As long as you're good about keeping up with reading and you attend class most of the time, you'll get a good grade!
Mr.Sal was really nice professor, the only problem i had in this class was the weekly worsheet. I don't mind doing the readings but He asked for your REACTIONS and I'm heckla suck at that. I never read and then write down my reaction.GRRR..However,I enjoy the class a lot:) Test can be a little difficult but don't worry, he is an easay grader:)
Amazing Professor! Shares a lot of personal stories and experiences. Requires to use textbook for weekly reading worksheets, tests aren't that bad. Projects are super fun! He's one of the professors that I will never ever forget. He's not your average "professor" but really cares for his students a lot. You won't regret taking his classes!
Thought this class was going to be hard because we had daily readings. Ended up acing it with an A+. One of the nicest most genuine teachers I ever had!! Best Class ever.
favorite teacher at de anza! participate in the interesting notes, and easy reads and get to use the notes on the tests! he is a great person and teacher. the class is awesome and super interesting.
Super easy class, fun, he tells such interesting stories and he's very nice! Mostly makes you do reflection papers and offers extra credit. Even if you don't ace his exams you should still get an A by doing work. Suggest to take him!
Definitely one of the best professors ever. I learnt so much in his class, and was motivated to always attend his class. He is a very easy grader but gives lots of reading. Take any of his classes before it gets full.
I was purposely failed his class because i was going to get a C. I realized how thought provacative his lessons are and had to retake him and get an A. I did just that. This man changed my life... Nuff Said.
Lots of readings, but they're interesting. He definitely changed some lives, if not a lot, with this class and who he is as a person. I can't say enough good things about him. Before you leave DA, Humi 1 with Salamander is a must. Highly recommend him.
The most interesting class I've ever taken with one of the best teachers I've ever had in ALL my schooling- no joke. Sal is funny, approachable, and he truly cares about each & every one of his students. Heavy reading, but he uses novels instead of textbooks. This class changed my perception of myself and life. Take Creative Minds with Breiter!
Took him in the spring. His class is very easy and straightforward. Uses four novels instead of a textbook. Tests based solely from reading and class discussions. I do not know why, but there were so many hot girls in the class! This is never a bad thing, but it was hard to really give a damn about what he is saying when you got them to look at ;)
Sal is the best teacher!! he is funny and outgoing. but the best part is by taking this class you will be guided into a better understanding of your self, and the world we live in. He should be awarded for best teacher ever!! no lie. and if you do the work and read you will pass!! do the work get an A.
TAKE THIS CLASS, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!!!
TAKE THIS CLASS! Sal is amazing! He is not only chill, funny & nice but he is very caring, intelligent & motivating! This class helped me gain better sense of myself, gain confidence, and learn of the creativity that I have within me. Never taken a class like this before, it has truly inspired me. I recommend it 110 % ! Do the work = easy A.
I loved this class because of Sal. Easy A IF YOU DO THE WORK! It can seem like a lot but its actually really easy. He does a great job of motivating students and keeping your interest during the class. He changed my life with this course and he sure as hell will change yours! Definitely recommend
Great teacher! He really cares about his students and is super funny and friendly. There is a decent amount of weekly work, but it's not hard. Just try to stay on top of things and it should be an easy A. Definitely recommend! :)
Amazing professor. Genuinely cares about his students and what he teaches. If all teachers taught like Sal, school would be something I would look forward to. Do the readings and homework to get an A. This class didn't feel like a class for me, it was a awesome experience that I was glad to be apart of.
Sal is super informative, very chill, helpful and actually cares about his students! There's weekly essays and readings, but they're not hard at all. He doesn't mind at all if you have to bother him for help sometimes! he's actually more than ecstatic to help out. I HELLA recommend him if you're gonna take HUMI1! :D
Take this class. Probably the greatest teacher at this school and one of the best classes you can take. Plus it gets some of your GE stuff done. You will have to do a little work each week, but it's definitely worth it. Sal made the class understandable, enjoyable and interesting. Two tests and a final that are easy to ace if you attend regularly.
Probably the best at DeAnza. Highly recommend; he kept class fun and interactive. Both books were awesome reads and essential to your A. Weekly reports to turn in, which he gives feedback on(tests) A LOT OF reading & writing WORK -WARNING- but seriously worth it as this class may change your life AND views of others. Took most of my study time.
He is the best teacher. You can tell he loves his job. He is super easy to talk to. However you have to do your work to get a good grade but the work is easy. He is my favorite teacher I have ever had!
He inspired me everyday. Not only a great teacher, but an amazing person overall. you will not regret taking his class!
Professor Breiter is gnarly! He is blessed with the power of empowering people. He doesn't penalize you for missing classes, but *you* will personally not want to miss any day... He fills the class with intellectual discussion, which is great. Take him, you will have a blast!
You will not regret taking this class. Everything about it has pretty much been said. If anything, take this class early on in your college career because it might make you decide to change majors. Awesome class!
Take this class
Such a cool teacher! He's very easy going and talks about things that challenges people's thinking. His class requires the books and attendance is mandatory. Also class participation would be good as it'll help with your grade. Had a few tests, quizzes and group projects. Take him!
Sal is awesome. His lectures made me want to come to class, & his grading scale is how I feel every teacher's should be. He is really great at opening your eyes to things that you may not have thought about before. There is classwork & books are required, but they are interesting reads. TAKE HIM, you won't regret it! oh, and he's easy on the eyes:)
Sal is an AMAZING professor!!! I was first scared about his class, but when I went to class the first day I already knew I wouldn't want to miss his class. His lectures are really interesting (life based stories) and not that much homework only reading and writing down your reactions of the reading! I highly recommend Sal best professor I've had!!
Hands down best GE class I ever took at De Anza I love Sal he has such a zest for life !!! His humor makes the lectures extremely engaging and I love the homework assignments how he lets us incorporate ourselves into our writing I really recommend him!!!
One of the funniest professors I've ever had. Class is always enjoyable . Each test question is based off each day of class and the readings you do over each week. 4 Books in the class. Only one assignment per week: A Reading Worksheet and he grades really easy on them. 5 Experiment papers that you discuss in class. Self grade the experiments too.
The funniest teacher ever. READ the books and do your HW then you already know what you're getting.
Professor Sal is a one of a kind teacher. He is very down to earth and very good at connecting with his students. The work load is heavy, but the content is easy. This class is very thought provoking and his lectures are always interesting. He is super open about his life and how it applies to the material. I would totally take this class again.
I usually don't take the time to write a review about a teacher, but Sal is an exception. I definitely recommend taking his class; Not only is he caring and hilarious, he teaches life lessons. I left his class with a different perspective about life, it was a bittersweet moment. Not gonna miss the reading worksheets, but I'll miss his presence.
he is a really good teacher, there's only one HW per week. he gives many extra credits and he is really nice too! he enjoys teaching and he makes us don't wanna miss this class! i absolutely learned a lot from this class!
Wow oh wow. Sal is truly a gem. His lectures will change your views on life (usually if you are a pessimist). You usually get a laugh at least once a week in his class, which was really helpful the weeks after my breakup. You usually will read a bit at home and write about how you feel about his lecture and what you read. Tests are open notes.
Super fun & enjoyable class that you won't want to skip! Readings, experiments, lectures are all really interesting. Sal is super cool, hilarious and approachable. Take this class, you won't regret it!
Sal is such a VERY fun professor you won't want to miss a single day of class. You'll have a good laugh everyday. ANYTHING is open for discussion. His lectures are very inspiring . He encourages everyone to slowly beak down your boundaries and try new things. Tests are open notes! TAKE HIM!!!
Sal is one of the best professors at De Anza College! He is very upfront about his grading system which is great! Hes really nice! His class was one of my favorite classes because his energy is contagious! Take his class, you wont regret it!
Awesome guy! One of the best professors I ever had at De Anza. He is very hilarious and his lectures are awesome. His teaching method is really nice and I learned a lot of things in his class.
Sal is hands down the best prof. He finds a way to make class interesting, making you want to go. He is super hilarious, which is great because he would keep you entertained during lecture. You do have to read 4 books at a time, but they're not that bad. You can for sure tell that he loves what he is doing. Take his class, and you won't regret it.
I have to say I am so happy I took his class. His stories are hilarious and he makes class super fun. His teaching method is very different in that he encourages a anything goes type of environment. I suggest you take him! He made us read 4 books(super easy, inexpensive) show up!take notes! you will get an A! best teacher I have had so far
Amazing teacher you will not regret taking this class. His lectures are unique and very informative.
His lectures actually keep you awake and engaged. There is no way someone can pass without an A. if you do all the work and readings to the bare minimum, you will get a full score and I love that this class is set up so if you even get Cs on all of your tests, you will still pass with an A. truly a great professor and class. Highly HIGHLY recommend
Favorite professor hands down. Though content is easy, there is a lot of it so stay on track! I truly believe his class has improved my mindset and mentality in life and he is so caring towards each and every student. I really enjoyed the class and didnt miss even 1 day of lecture. Take him, you wont regret it, I promise you.
He is amazing. I got nothing else to say. He has humor but knows what he's teaching. What can you ask more? The class is super easy. You read 4 books total. Sounds like a lot but the books are interesting. There's weekly assignments so build those points up. It helps a lot to balance out the tests.
He is such an amazing teacher I can't even. The workload might look a lot but it's mostly your reaction to the lectures, discussion, and readings that you do. So it's a given that you'll get 100% on the reading assignments. I highly recommend his class. You will leave with a whole new perspectives in life. I don't regret taking this class at all.
Sal is a really great teacher, I mean he really knows what he's talking about. Seriously the work is not so bad, it seems like a lot but its so easy. Definitely makes you step out of your comfort zone and think differently. Just take his class, his lectures will have you thinking and you will have a fun time learning.
Sal is an amazing professor and his lectures make you want to go to class each time. He changed my views a lot in a beneficial way. The work given is completely manageable and reflective. Don't miss out by not taking his class!
Sal is an AMAZING teacher who teaches you to form your own opinions and take charge over your life. He teaches you to think for yourself and to make your own decisions and take responsibility for them. He gives lots of extra credit and for his class, just show up in class and read the books. Tests are open notes and the answer is pretty obvious.
Sal is definitely a great professor. I always showed up to class just to hear all the lectures and stories. Keep up with the course work since it could be a lot when you don't space out the 4 books you have to read. However the content of the books can be fascinating when you get into it.
one worksheet per week, half just your reactions to his lectures, other half reactions to the weekly readings. some group work, 3 exams. he's a great prof, interesting lectures and he makes an effort to engage w every student despite big classes. easy A long as you show up and know the gist of the books
Great Guy. I was super inspired in this class and it helps with the craziness in college, i recommend everyone take his class at least once. He's an awesome lecturer. Do the homework, all of it. Use your heart in this class. You won't regret this.
I rarely rate a professor coz it's not the norm in my country. But this professor is just great! His approach is like an authoritative parent where he nurture students to bring their best ideas that is outside the norm. Think outside the box and you'll enjoy his class. Do your work and you'll get an A as what he said in the first week of class.
Energetic and funny lectures but still gets to the point. Homework follows the same format every week and focuses more on your thoughts and reflections.
You're missing out if u don't take him! Got above a 100% bc he gives a lot of extra credit. Hw is mainly reflecting on lectures and readings, which are entertaining and fun. Tests are open note. Not sure why anyone would wanna ditch but if u do you can get notes from a friend. TAKE HIM! Can't put into words how much this class impacted me! the best
Although the quarter hasn't yet done as well as I don't know what grade I will receive, I wanna rate him as soon as possible since I really enjoy the class.!!! You gonna regret unless you take his course before going out of school. My question is, how could anyone give him 4 out of 5? He's definitely worth even 6 or 7 on the sliding scale of 5. lol
Sal deserves more than a 5 rating. He clearly loves what he does and his enthusiasm inspires others to work hard and actually succeed in class. The only "hard" part of the class is the amount of reading per week. You read small articles and chapters twice a week and write about what your thoughts are. You should definitely take this class.
He is the best professor I've ever met. He is an easy grader! You should take his class, you won't regret.
best teacher everrrr. I wish every other instructor is just like him
he is my favorite professor and his class is the most enjoyable class. Take him without doubt, you will learn a lot!!
Breiter is the best professor I ever had at De Anza. The class was easy A and his lectures are mind-opening. I would take him again if I could.
Sal is one of the best teachers I have ever had at De Anza! If you don't take his class you are definitely missing out. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Sal is truthfully the best professor I've ever had in my entire life! He is quite a character and you will definitely love his class. Taking this class has really changed how i think about certain topics!
Best teacher ever
One of the best professor ever. he loves whats he's doing and you will love this class and your self for who you are. Its easy A class because the assignments are based on your experiences as well and readings are fun and a lot of extra credit.
Sal is surely the best professor I have had, he is very caring and makes sure that you will get a good understanding about the points in his lectures.
Sal was the best professor and by far the best teacher Ive ever had in my life! Highly recommend taking him. He makes a student change their perspective for the better. He is such an amazing person, character, funny, smart and so understanding. I would take him for every class if I could. Definitely will worth your while.
Sal is a cool guy, he is funny, great, and you really just want to listen to him speak. However, this class is has homework everyday before and after class. It's really tough managing time for other classes with all the readings he gives out. Three different books, I would say you read about 50+ pages before class. He makes you work for your grade.
I took creative minds last quarter (fall) and I can hands down say he was one of the BEST professors that I have EVER had! His lectures were the best and shared many stories in between. Truly wish I could take the class again. There is some reading that comes along with the class, but if you're on top of it, you will get an easy A+! :))
I lovedddddd Sal's class, whenever you would walk in to his class it's just such a nice atmosphere and he's such a funny guy that you'll never end up bored! There is a lot of reading, but trust me it isn't boring in any way. Highly recommend his class, you won't regret it!
he talks A LOT. For homework, you have an assignment due before class and after class. I didn't do all the assignments and still passed with an A. overall his class was semi-easy you just really gotta be on top of your things.
Sal is a real gem. He teaches a mind opening class and wants to give everyone an A. Listen to the great lectures, do the easy work when it comes up, grab your A and new found knowledge and go.
Amazing. Most eye-opening class I've ever taken. Learned more from this class than I have in the past 18 years of my life. Sal is so kind and caring, he cares more to hear you react, not summarize. Truly gets your head and heart working on something you're passionate about. No other class will ever be like this. 100% take again. You won't regret it
He is one of my favorite professors ever in de Anza I would and he will give you good feedback and he is caring as well. Sal is hilarious when doing his lectures in class this class was worth it and I'm so glad and happy that I got to have him as my creative minds teacher.!!
Simply amazing lectures, encourage but never forces you to participate. Very hard not to be inspired by his aura. Best class during my 7 quarters in de anza, must take.
Best professor and best class Ive ever take. Sal is very passionate and funny. Easy A but you will learn things from him. Give my respect to him.
He's one of the few teachers I genuinely like at De Anza. His class inspired me to change my major and I'm much happier with my choice of major/career. His lectures and assignments keep you engaged in the class, he's also pretty hilarious. He takes a lot of students in, it's pretty impressive how he gets things done quicker than most professors.
I have NEVER loved going to school for any reason, but Prof Sal gave me a reason. I fell in love with this class and I looked forward to going everyday. By far the most interesting, mind opening class I have ever taken in my life. I really wish De Anza had semester so I could have more time because I would take his class forever!!! Best professor!
This is my first time writing a review, and I just had to because this is hands down the BEST class I have ever taken in my life. Best class, and it goes hand in hand with the best teacher in De Anza, and even outside De Anza. Everything we learn in this class is relatable to your actual life, and Prof Sal is just so amazing all around. 10/5 stars.
He is the best professor I have ever taken.
He is one of the best teachers I've ever had. Such positive energy, he fulfilled my days. You do have to read the books in order to catch up on what he was talking about and there are quite a lot of books to read. His test is actually a bit hard since I didn't read much but I still got an A because of the extra credits. Reflection hw are quite ez.
Very good professor, as long as you put in the effort, you will get an A.
Sal is the most caring teacher at De Anza. He is funny and bonds with his students. He does give you 3-4 books to read through the quarter but as long as you read the text, you'll understand his lectures. He does give out extra credit in the quarter. Sal also lets you use you're notes on test and the finals.
Best professor I have ever had. Not just at De Anza, but in the history of my entire higher education. Absolutely Life-changing.
You'll hear about how studying under certain professors is a privilege because of something they've done in their lives. Being able to learn from Sal is a privilege because of what you will do with your life. His class should be a requirement before you declare your major.
A little bit of busywork. But I think you should be able to handle it. Expect to read around 50-80 pages a week. Honestly, it's little work for the amazing lessons Sal teaches. His lessons are very impactful. It's important that you take your own time to research your own interests to fully get the most of this class. Definitely a must take!
Wish I could select more tags. I never do this. Other than one other professor, if every professor was like Sal, I wouldn't hate school and I hate school with a passion. I got lucky because Sal made it enjoyable. He has the utmost respect for students and actually cares about them.
There's a reason why Sal's HUMI class gets filled up the fastest! You learn a lot in this class! Sal makes the class enjoyable. His lectures are funny and it makes you reflect on a lot of things! This class will make you look at things from a whole new perspective! It really is a must take! In this class you'll grow as a person!!
Sal is AMAZING. Sal is very easy to talk to and he ensures that students have a comfortable environment to learn in. Lectures are all very interesting. Sometimes they might seem like they don't relate to one another, but Sal ties everything together nicely. Take this class and you won't regret. By far my favorite professor and class of all time.
easy A if you don't skip class and do the works. read a few chapters of the books to write a reflection on that. group-sharing every week. have to host a group-sharing once. easy grader, no stress
knowing I can get an A from the very start helped me enjoy the class more . over time the cursing becomes normal. a lot of canvas submissions, had to do homework every other day,v annoying. if you want the A do the work not that hard. tells you the final questions before testing so nice
He is the goat. Inspirational, motivational, intellectual, caring. Do the assignments, read the book and ur guaranteed an A. Best class I took in my lifetime.
Sal is honestly such a memorable and amazing professor. The reading and homework can get a bit heavy and times but the writing assignments are always based on self reflection and opinions. This class really opens up your mindset, pushes you to think creatively and grow as an individual. What you put in is what you get out of this class. 10/10 prof
This is the best class I've ever taken. You are able to learn more about your own potential and your role in society. You read three books over the quarter but they're usually pretty interesting and relevant. There is homework everyday but it's based on your own experience and thoughts. Topics were all very interesting and engaging. Take this class
Aside from his cool name, he's an memorable and must take teacher! I took him for HUMI 1, and his workload is plentiful but tolerable. His lectures are amazing and entertaining as he likes to add his own twist into the material. Overall, the class is an easy A as long as you show up and do the work. His tests are also extremely easy!
i was nervous for this class at first but eventually I passed with an A! pretty easy class with lots of reading and writing which can be annoying but at the end if you do all the work, its an easy A
There's a lot of writing assignments to do but they're based on personal experiences and as long as you can share your opinions, you can do the assignments. He's very interactive with students, and he managed to do this class 100% through zoom perfectly. He's very open to hearing your opinions and encourages everyone to find their own path.
Nice guy, great lecturer, easy money class for Humi 1. Got a few readings in circulation throughout the quarter, interesting fella and he makes you think. Can't agree with everything he says, but certainly a thought-provoking class where you get out what you put in, and an easy A.
Usually I am a C student but taking this class really gave me an A+! You'll have to do some reading but it's not too bad. His assignments are just based on your reflections and reactions to his readings and lectures. I believe that if you can just put the effort to finish his assignments on time then you'll receive an easy A+ just like I did :))
Amazing person, definitely a special teacher. But the textbook for this class was really boring, but lots of mandatory reading. done over ZOOM, it worked out well but would have been better in person. Weekly art projects. Lots of history and how it related to art. Great teacher that has a lot of passion for the subject.
One of the best classes Ive taken at DA. Sal is very inspirational and passionate about what he teaches. Super easy assignments and hes very lenient! Take him whenever you get the chance. I recommend taking him when you have a heavy quarter and need an easy class to take.
the standard of what a great teacher or professor should be! Sal's a very nice person who's always willing to answer questions if you need it. lectures are like 2 hours long but pass by so fast because he's telling fun stories and what he talks about is really meaningful and eyeopening! really enjoyed the class, wish he taught all my classes
I can not express enough how amazing Sal is, I took his class as a freshman and If I could I would totally take his class again. His assignments are very easy you just have to connect the reading to your own personal experiences. He really cares about his students and takes time to know them
SAL IS A GEM!!! He isnt John Keating of Dead Poets Society, he is simply a Sal Breiter of DeAnza College. LUCKY TO HAVE HIM.
Best teacher I have ever had in my whole life. Literally he teaches so well in his lectures that it's like having a conversation with him rather than being forced to listen and pay attention. Lots of reading but trust me it's enjoyable and worth your time. This class was absolutely fun and engaging for me. Worth it.
Sal is a wonderful teacher! Absolutely loved all the lectures and work(although it might get repetitive). The class is easy as long as you do the work. Definitely recommend taking this class if you want to actually learn something.
Awesome teacher! His teaching style is very nontraditional (IN A VERY GOOD WAY). Wants to make sure each and every student succeeds. Class is very engaging and with breakout groups every single class (pretty awesome). Learned a lot during this quarter. If you need to take HUMI, definitely look for his class! Definitely won't regret your choice!
Sal is the most caring, thoughtful, & amazing teacher/human being I have ever met. Sal's class was life changing for me. Sal guided me & even wrote a letter of rec for me (It's the only reason why I got into college tbh). I wish I could take more classes with him. He makes going to De Anza, & college frankly, worth it. TRUST ME, YOU WON'T REGRET!!!
Hands down the most charismatic professor I've ever taken. Took a HUMI section from him and have never been so engaged in a class before. All work he requires is relevant to his lectures/tests, and is pretty minimal for a HUMI class. Highly recommend you take a class from him at some point.
Saw someone compare him to John Keating from Dead Poet Society, and that is right on the nose. His lectures feel so personal and unconventional. Do yourself a favor and take a class from him.
Greatest professor ever! Very inspirational! Class not mandatory, but I went bc I love his lectures so much. Made me want to learn and want to go to class. Quite a lot of reading, but don't let that scare you. Do the work, and you're good to go. You won't regret taking his class. Daily homework was not difficult, but there is, work. Take the class!
Such an amazing professor!! Sal has amazing lectures and he's very caring. He wants all his students to do well, so he even gives everyone extra points at the end of the quarter to make up for some missed assignments. Take him whenever you get the chance!
Sal is such a chill professor. He is honest about his opinions and when he gets stumped. He does his best to look at the topics at different angles and does not mind when students interrupt him to explain a new angle. Homework can have extra credit on top of it. The homework and social experiments are based on several pdf or web readings.
It does not get better than Sal, I mean it. I wish he was my life coach
Probably one of the most easiest classes to take. On top of that, he's very- and I mean VERY HUMOROUS. Expect him to have a huge dirty mouth on the first day you take his class. He's kind of funny lol... Grades are incredibly easy as well as long as you are a good writer and know how to let out your opinions well on readings and other sorts.
One of the best professors I've ever had! He's very understanding and lenient with work and he offered 30 points extra credit this quarter which helped out a lot. His work is also very easy to understand and the workload is super manageable! His lectures were never boring and he always gave us breaks during our meetings as well!
Best teacher I've had in years. TAKE THIS CLASS. If you are on the fence about it, just give it a try, you can always drop it in the first week if you want. But this is an eye opening class that is more about self discovery and self growth than boring academic stuff. Fun class too. Just beware, he does swear, in case you don't like that.
Took Sal's class winter'20 (semester of the initial lockdown early 2020), and I have to say he is a great prof. I would not miss class bc theres weekly reflections, and homework can be tedious if you don't like to read/write. He is seriously so chill, very kind, grades easily and fair (also tons of extra credit). Easy A, just do the work!!
Sal goes well above and beyond the call of duty for this class and is an absolute legend in general. Coursework is writing-intensive, but is deeply meaningful and graded fairly. Highly recommend you take this class in your first quarter at De Anza before taking the writing series, especially if you are unsure of your path in college (or life).
almost done w/ quarter & can't emphasize how much this class changed me. with such relevant topics & books & lectures that left me blown away, this course deserves a 10. sal goes above and beyond to ensure all students feel welcome, creating a safe & fun environment for all sorts of inspiring conversations. take him!!! :)
At first, really thought these reviews were bots, you know seeing the overwhelmingly good reviews, I had a bit of doubt. This became one of the best classes I have taken so far. If you love deep and meaningful lectures, you will definitely love this class. Super accepting too! I can't fully express just how amazing this class was, take if u can!!!
1 reading reflection based on the chapter we read each week, 1 lecture reflection based on the 2 weekly lectures, and 1 visual experiment per week. The workload seems intimidating at first, but you'll get used to it. He gives TONS of extra credit, and it's practically almost impossible for you to fail his class. He's also hot :)
BEST CLASS ever, u MUST take this class. Very inclusive and covers many different things: education, environment, gender, race, art, etc, & u will have a chance to explore ur own interests. Write based on lectures, readings, & a project each week. As long as u do the work, A+. He genuinely cares about students & is very appreciative.
Sal will give sections of books to read. Write summaries for the readings. Be willing to talk about "self-help" written projects to a group of peers. He puts an emphasis on class discussions.
Sal knows exactly how to keep his students engaged by incorporating humor into his lectures, speaking passionately, and assigning homework that's actually fun to do. He is super inclusive in his lectures and always keeps an open mind. I've also never had a professor grade and reply to my emails as fast as Sal did lol. Highly, highly, recommend!
This man is a real gem! You should definitionally take this class. An amazing teacher that cares about what he is teaching his students. If you read the assignments and put effort into the writing assignments, then you will get an A. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to his lectures as he talks about some interesting stuff. He is also hilarious.
Professor Breiter was amazing! His lectures were inspiring and fun. He really makes you learn how to embrace your creativity and breakout of the school system mindset that we have always been in. Would 100% take again!
What a gem. Please take him. His classes are easy, yes, but he's also a great human being and genuinely cares about his students, which honestly is a rarity. Very inspirational. And hey, even if you don't care about that, his class is an easy A anyway. Can't recommend him enough.
The coolest instructor I have ever met. His lectures are interesting and amazing. And he gave double triple extra credits the whole quarter cuz he believed that we all deserve A+. I strongly recommend it for those who are considering taking humi creative minds class.
I recommend Sal with all of my heart, mind, and soul because he is truly a unique, empathetic, wise, and knowledgeable person who has the hopes to guide and support his students in finding themselves, discovering their limitless intelligences, skills, and gifts to access their innate creativity and imagination.
Best professor ever!!!
TAKE HIM. A word of advice for those who fear the workload. Don't overthink the work, it's not an English class, you don't need to plan out or proofread your writing. Just write whatever comes to mind. It doesn't even have to be that relevant to the class. I went with this approach and got 117% on my grade. I spend 1-2 hours a week on the class.
Amazing prof. Entirely stress-free class. Everyone should take him just for the experience. Frankly, some professors here should take him to learn what teaching means. You'll have 3 writing assignments every week. May seem like a lot, but it's really not. Just open up and write what's important to you. He is generous with grades, gives plenty EC.
Sal is an amazing teacher who cares about what you learn, and as long as you are open-minded you will get an A and learn a lot along the way about things that really matter. Your grade is not based on pleasing him since his goal is to teach you about yourself and the system of school. HIGHLY Recommend. You will have an amazing time.
His humorous and witty style is impressive, and I have a new understanding of creativity from his classes. How to use what I have learned to help myself better use, understand, and influence others is what I think is the best part! Very creative professor!!! Strongly recommend!
I've learned a great deal from being an idiot in this class (Myth of Icarus iykyk). Sal teaches by example, dedicating his life, heart, and soul into teaching; it shows. The books are greatly impactful & memorable (However, just keep up with the work. It's doable - I was just lazy 1009% my fault for my lame grade). Thank you, Sal, for all you do.
You can't find a better professor than Sal. His class will impact you profoundly and may even change your life. Lectures make you rethink everything you've been taught before and the assigned readings are genuinely enjoyable. Best of all, it's a very stress-free GE, and as long as you do the work by writing from your heart, easy A+.
Easy A. Has a lot of writing, but Sal is a super lenient grader, and no matter how bad of a writer you think you are you'll still probably get full points + extra credit. For example on 15 point assignments, the class avg would always be around 17 points. I had so much EC that I was able to skip some assignments and still pass with a 102%
A true badass and inspirational professor. He understands what's wrong with the educational system and does his best to elevate student stress in his classroom. This class was self-reflective, fun, and hands down one of the best classes I have taken at De Anza. There is a bit of writing, but it's writing from the heart (not like an English class).
i dont usually do reviews but sal is such a great prof i decided to only review and grade him love this guy
I've been thinking about why this class was so fun to take and i've come to realization that this class is especially impactful because you learn and do stuff that actually matters in life. The structure of this class provides you with a foundation instrumental in finding your way through this especially difficult and confusing modern age *imo*.
Sal is a genuine whole hearted kind good human. He loves teaching and inspiring his students to become the best version of themselves. His class is quite reading heavy with three books. Every week there's lecture/class discussion & reading reflections. He'll give bonus points on these if you put in the work. I'm getting a 94/100 without the final.
There are 3 assignments every week. If you do them consistently, you'll 100% get a desirable grade in this class. His lectures are recorded, just watch them and you'll be able to do your homework. U can watch them in 1.5x time and turn on captions. He's super nice, caring and understanding. Will give you extra credits for just doing your work.
Sal made me enjoy going to class and learning and I learned a lot in his class. He has the most interesting, insightful, and thought provoking questions.
Everyone should take this prof just to have a fantastic experience of his class. Creates an amazing thought-provoking and stress-free atmosphere. You will have 3 writing assignments per week which seems like a lot, but it is really not. Don't overthink it, open your mind, and write about what's important to you. He is a generous grader. Take him!
This guy changed my life. He is such a good teacher. Helped me open my 3rd eye. He goes over everything you need to know to succeed.
Genuinely care about his students. He told me he reads his reviews on here before every year so he knows what to discuss or improve on. He knows his class is easy however he just wants you to participate or engage at least.
the best professor i've taken in my life. he's the best
Amazing teacher, I never have this much cool and active teacher I really appreciate it and I love his teaching style I should recommend to take professor Breiter class, you will have fun.
Best professor I've ever had. I wish he taught more classes than Creative Minds just so I could take another class with him, incredibly inspiring, encouraging, and understanding. Ended up with a C because I missed some work, which he personally checked in about. Really funny but insightful guy, if you have the opportunity to take his class do it!
His class is rather a monotonous one where its just him lecturing while the students passively listen. A lot of assignments and readings for his class that are not particulary hard but can be quite tedious. He also grades your effort alongside the content of your essays.
For anyone that wants to find peace in the college life, this professor is the one to take. Even though I am still in his class currently, it has to be the easiest and least stressful A I could have ever taken in my entire college life. I wished someone told me about his class when I first started college. If you have the opportunity, pick him.
2h Zoom(archived), 2h on-campus lecture, 2 reflections and 1 experimental essay per week. 1-2 pages of "single-spaced" essay as an exam, 1 exam in a month. There is always a random group discussion during the lecture discussing about the readings and experiment assignments. Easy to get a bunch of ECs. DEFINITELY AN EASY A CLASS.
Great professor! Graded based on completion, genuinely passionate. Makes you think about the flaws of the education system and educational elitism. Weekly assignments, but it takes less than an hour or two for each one.
Please take him! He is truly the best and caring with every student he teaches. The lectures keep you thinking! Canvas work is a reading and typing but not to bad and easy to complete. Truly loved being in his class and he is super worth taking! He's funny and his class is super fun! :)
I 100% recommend this class; in many ways, it's an easy A. The bonus is he's genuinely an enjoyable personality, and I loved how I never knew what to expect going into class (in a good way). The readings aren't too bad, and the assignments are all just your opinion on topics. I genuinely learned a lot from this class, about myself and the world.
Oh my god Sal is by far the best professor at De Anza. Not only does he put on a show and put so much passion into his lectures, you actually learn so much from him. I do admit that there is a lot of writing for this class, but it can be done in about 15 minutes if you're really in the zone. I would take his Creative Minds class over and over again
Very animated guy. Free A
I took this class for winter 2024, and it was amazing. Def one of the best classes I've taken at De Anza. 3 books that I had to read in order for discussions (not that bad), mainly reading preps and weekly reflecs. Overall just do the work and you'll be in good hands. No tests/midterms/quizzes either. Really makes you learn abt creativity.
Decent amount of reading/writing from 3 short books about creativity, but damn well worth it for the lectures. Prof. Sal is a big kid at heart & earnestly discusses a dizzying array of topics far beyond creativity (e.g. spiritualism, structural violence, academia). Generous, simple grading out of 1000 points. A great first class for freshmen! XOXO
Professor Breiter's class is a gem! Engaging lectures, minimal work, and an easy A. I used unstuckstudy AI alongside the readings to breeze through the reflections. Highly recommend this fun and insightful course.
Life-changing. Sal is humorous, respectful, and professional. I genuinely want to experience his teaching again, and I hope all my professors are like him. He is one of the most motivational and supportive professors I know, someone you want to be friends with. 10000% would take him again
if you're lucky enough to still see room in his class, bro take him. His seats go fast because he's the best teacher at de anza. All you need for this class is to be real and speak from your heart and just know you will work on yourself with his assignments and you will pass with ezzz. Eye opening topics and you wont regret it. hurry up.
Prof Breiter is one of the best at De Anza. His classes are full of energy, eye-opening, and super engaging. He genuinely cares about his students and makes learning feel easy and meaningful. There's some reading and writing-- taking less than an hour, and being real in your reflections. You won't regret taking this class, plus its an easy A!
I would 100% recommend this class. This professor is amazing. He cares about his students. We have 2-3 assignments every week, and we write a lot. It wasn't a hard class. I found writing and reading fun during his class, so TAKE IT.
Sal was definitely the best teacher so far. Didn't require textbooks but we did reas 3 books throughout the quarter followed by in class discussions. He cares about his students and enjoys what he teaches which is awesome. Took the class for my GE but would definitely take another one with him.
Sal is hands down the best professor at De Anza. He understands the value of our your time and cares deeply for his students. He utilizes three readings which are short and interesting. Assignments are more about personal progress and less about typical grading schema. Extra credit opportunities are provided and grading is light.
Love this professor, really cares for all his students and gives super reasonable assignments with tons of extra credit opportunities. 1000000/10, best prof ever.
i really enjoyed prof breiter's class. assignments were easy to do. best professor for creative minds and SOOOOO much extra credit. favorite prof 10/10 will take again
Sal is a cool person. I don't recommend it, but his class can be passed without ever attending the lectures. He records his lectures and makes it easily accessible to do the weekly assignments. His lectures are fun and interactive.
