Moves quickly through the chapters doesn't let anyone use calculators your grade is basically your test scores. homework usually every night test every week .i do not recommend taking his class if you don't understand math easily.very hard to understand because of his accent.
Ridiculously awesome! Prof. Sha is extremely helpful, he will explain and show you what you need to know if you feel like your not getting it. He does move rather quickly in lectures but again he makes himself available in office hours and during session breaks. People complain about the accent but it's no problem.Sha is legit & funny. Choose him!
My first math class in 25 years. I was worried but he has a knack for explaining math in a real world way. I loved his understated, quirky sense of humor. You can tell that he genuinely cares about reaching students. He is laid-back and understanding but he also expects you to put in the effort and behave like an adult.
very straightforward. He is funny. If you have a question just ask because he doesn't remember to say if there are any questions (hw). On tests you always have an extra credit question. Quizzes almost every class period that are 4pts based on the topic he just went over in class. He is somewhat new at teaching so he's still establishing everything.
Sha is very smart and his lectures are useful, he gives a daily quiz and homework that may leave you with false confidence on his tests. He has a tendency to make tests "fun" by adding impossible questions. The tests are most of your grade, so be prepared for the difficulty; also rarely enough time to finish these tests.
Dr.Sha really knows the material. Super important to attend class, take notes and quizes and do online homework on time. He does not allow a calculator. He is available for tutoring. Funniest clean humor i have heard in a long time.....foil.
terrible. I hate his class
Basically, What is taught in the class differs from what is on the online homework and quizes. Yes, he tells funny jokes but the class can be boring all you do is take notes the whole class and take a quiz at the end of each class. Tests are very close together, if your not already good at math DONT TAKE THIS CLASS, but he is a very nice guy!
The Material he teaches is HIS Way or No Way, if you try to get tutoring elsewhere or try to do it the way the online hw asks you to do (online hw & quiz is the place you actually get to pratice the material)you will fail the test's which are too close together not allowing you to learn the material at a good pace.
Mr. Sha was a great math teacher. Very helpful, clear on lectures and assignments. He always encouraged students to seek him for extra tutoring help. But you need to study hard and practice. Do all of the homework! Best professor I've had so far!
Im a high school student who took pre calc over the spring semester to get ahead. Ive never been hood at math but sha makes more doable by offering alot of extra credit and homework and online quizes make it easy to get a high grade textbook isnt really used just practice from the book and you will do fine. Sha is so far my favorite college prfesr
I took intermediate algebra with Sha. He is close to one of the worst teachers I have ever had. My final grade was a B but I did everything I was supposed to. The way he teaches is beyond me. His lectures do not match up with the coming up test. Not a good teacher. And math is my best subject! Do not take his class.
I don't recommend taking this teacher for trigonometry.
I do not recommend this teacher if you struggle at math. Moves extremely fast and give you about 8 tests on confusing chapters. Hardly any 1 to one time.
Unless you're gifted in math, take another teacher. He makes it harder than it is. It's his way or the wrong way. The online homework and quizzes do not coincide with his tests. There's a quiz every class, a test every two weeks, and there's no time to actually comprehend the subject. He gets angry when you contradict him in class too. beware!
He's Really a great guy and he's simply a nice person in general. He dislikes disruptions and does have a set path that he would like to follow but he can explain if there is some other way you would like to learn it.
Must come to class and do work but he gives a lot of opportunities for extra credit. He does take off point for small things on test but gives credit for partial work. Definitely taking other classes with him.
Like any class, if you show up and take good notes, you will pass. When he gives an example of a "tricky" problem during the lecture, expect it to be on the test. The tests are difficult, but study your NOTES and you will be fine. He's always willing to help. His sense of humor is blunt, so if you're not overly-sensitive, you will enjoy this class.
Unless you like math, I suggest you do not take a class from him. Over 50% of class failed. Was at a D- until middle of semester when I decided I did not want to fail, so studied hard enough to pass the class with a B. Attendance is worth points. quizzes here and there that he works with you to pass. Lectures are good, tests are hard.
Sha is awesome. I have always struggled with math but Sha made it so easy. He gives you a practice "quiz" that you do at the end of every class that you are allowed to ask help on and you can work on it with people around you. Those exact questions are on the test and he gives extra credit for attending SI sessions. He is such an amazing teacher
I love Mr. Sha! The tests were exactly like the practice quizzes he would give us and he gave extra credit for going to the S.I sessions. He takes off little points on the tests but he makes up for it with all the extra credit opportunities he gives you. Just do your homework and study the practice quiz entirely and you will get an A. Take him!
He goes too fast during lecture. His practice quizzes are similar to the actual test but he is a tough grader. He will dock points for any little mistake for example. rounding off to the wrong decimal. Half of the class dropped and no one ever showed up to lecture. It was pointless. We spent more time at the Tutoring Center than we did in class
don't take. he makes math the hardest thing ever
Very hard grader, takes points off for the smallest things on tests; gives extra credit if you go to SI tutors, and if you have less than three absences in class, attendance is mandatory and online hw doesn't count for much. Gives extra credit opp but goes really fast in class. Notes are confusing so take lessons on proper note taking, get help oft
In one class day, you could potentially get into two chapter lectures, with a break in between. His helpful test resources are his study guides and extra credit opportunity. The only down side, in my opinion, was his MathLab usage, however, those points seriously help out your final grade. He also loves to crack jokes, even if they aren't funny.
I'm trying to be really honest here, he was a great funny guy, love his personality but no matter HOW WELL i felt like i understood his lessons, took TONS OF NOTES, went to TONS OF STUDY SESSIONS, his tests were NOTHING LIKE the lecture. If you are very gifted at solving any kind of math problem, go ahead, but if not, you are doomed.
So many notes for one lecture! Test are hard AF! But is you really push yourself to your potential you can pass. Studying is a MUST. If you are not going to study then don't bother taking the class because I can guarantee you that you will fail. Lastly, do the MathLab homework because that's what will keep you alive if you are failing test.
To my Fellow Peers, I would not recommend taking this professor. If you can't understand Japanese and already have a hard time with math, this class is not for you. The professor is very fast and does not explain how to solve the problems. I had to spend 2 hours before every class in the tutoring center just to understand it.
DO NOT TAKE HIM. He goes too fast in lecture and the homework is not helpful with the tests that he gives. Half of the class is spending hours in the tutoring center trying to figure out math problems since he wasn't willing to go over questions on the material in class.
I tried very hard to earn only a C. I don't want to bash him becuase he is a good guy with good intentions, but his classes are extremely tough. He will go through each section super fast and dosnt understand why kids aren't learning and won't slow down when asked and instead refers to his office hours. Dont take if looking for and easy A.
This is really cool but his English is poor, it is hard to understand him and hard to understand his test questions. He is fast teacher and confusing, don't take him.
He has an accent but he was still easy to understand. This class was fairly easy, I didn't put much effort into it and still passed with a good grade. Do the study guides.
He doesn't stick to what is on the syllabus. He also gets very side track on what he is taking about. He doesn't expand on things he's talking about.
Super tough grader!!! Marks you down for every little thing and tries to trick you on tests. Doesn't really prepare future teachers on HOW to teach math, just how to do the work. Wouldn't recommend.
curves grades
Professor Sha goes way to fast and doesn't explain thoroughly. Marks you down on every small detail. reduces points if you use pen.
Great math teacher; I would definitely take his class again if I were to return to Ventura College. As long as you stay on top of things, you definitely will be fine. His study guides are the similar things you see on the actual exams and quizzes; can't go wrong with that. Professor Saliha Sha, you're the man. Thank you for making Math V44 so easy.
The study guides are not really like the tests even if he says it is. Very fast paced. The lessons don't make sense until he actually does an example step by step. On the other hand, he offers a lot of help so it is your responsibility to go to him for help and takes that into consideration when grading you.
Professor Sha's class was fast paced and lecture heavy, so if you miss a lecture or don't take notes there is a possibility that you may find this course unmanageable. He gives homework a lot and when it comes to tests the study guide usually is about the same as the test. Also, he counts online homework as "extra credit" on tests which helps.
Sha gives you every opportunity the get an A in his class! Online homework bags you extra credit on exams(which are curved) - He even drops your lowest test! If you show up and do the work, you will pass this class no problem....5 stars!
WOW.. all I can say is do NOT take this professor!!! He is a jerk and belittles you if you do not understand something. He talks very fast and hard to understand at times. He also moves too fast and explains things in a way that makes them more difficult than need be. There is so much homework. He is a tough grader and will not help you out.
Im not a lazy student and this class was tough. I dont recommend taking this class if you are not a math person or good at math. The lectures are full of lots of information and he moves really quickly. The homework load is insane so If youre not willing to put in the work or time dont take this class. He is not approachable and can be rude
If you are not fully into math and only taking it for credit do not take this class!! The lectures are heavy and the homework load is intense. His lectures are fast and he will not slow down even if you ask. He expects you to already know the material and he is not good at explaining the subject. He cracks a lot of jokes but his humor can be rude.
Shas a great professor. I felt like he got right to the point w/ every chapter which is what I appreciated most. He is always willing to help when you need it & offers a lot of extra credit. You dont necessarily need a textbook, but do have to pay for the online section! Just do all your hw and quizzes and youll be fine. Hes fair w/ everything.
ALEEKS (need to pay for online) was used. Homework is understandable if you pay attention to what is being taught. His method of teaching is clear and gives examples so everyone understands. He is a top professor you would want to take, really cares about his class, accepts questions at all times does not make you feel bad if you don't understand.
For online it was way too much work. Do not take this class if you are taking another summer course, working or just busy in general. He doesnt grade anything until the class is basically done so you dont know if youre doing anything wrong for the quizzes. Hes nice but doesnt put that much care into his students. Im just glad its over.
The first to weeks were easy and okay but once the last two weeks he made everything harder and gave us a lot of hw to complete. Quizzes were only given two attempts and if he were to give at least three attempts your grade would have been better. Im sorry but i would not take his class again, he had high expectations when others had a hard time.
Took his summer 4 week stat class. Do not take if you are busy or have a job. i was working daily until 10pm each day including weekend. lots of HW and 3 quizzes/tests per week. Teacher answers your questions but the subject is hard in itself. I would take the teacher again but during a regualar semester not summer.
4 week Summer Session: take this class if you aren't busy with work/ other classes. Most of the students who complained didn't focus, made excuses, never asked him for help, or were busy. I took 7 other classes at my high school, so it is possible to juggle. Your grade will match the effort you put in. Always ask questions if you're lost.
I took Prof Shas 4 week stats class and learned a lot. We used Statscrunch and he gave us hw that aligned with his lectures. We covered a lot of material but everything was clear. Prof Sha was very easy to understand and reminds you of all the deadlines. If you stay on task and complete everything expect to earn a good grade. Would recommend!
Overall a decent teacher. Main style of teaching is through recorded lectures but did have zoom meeting where he would do some problems from the homework. Lots of homework but it isn't too bad if you watch the lectures and the homework usually only consists of 3-4 questions.
Mr. Sha is a good teacher, but gives so much homework and assignments that it is almost not manageable. Aleks Math work is do about every two days and you have about 3-4 assignments a week that consists of 4-5 questions each.
I really did not enjoy this class largely due to this professor. Some people were born to be teachers and some were not. Professor Sha was not. He makes a lot of mistakes and makes things confusing and difficult to learn. He does not demonstrate kindness or compassion towards his students.
This class was tough and it requires a lot of work. The concepts are slippery though, so the heavy workload helped to drill them in, plus it was a great lesson in time management. Professor Sha was always eager to help whenever I had questions. He would even meet on Zoom short notice to explain a problem I was having particular difficulty with.
Look, if you don't want to actually understand the topic and set yourself up for success in the future don't take this class with Professor Sha. This was an intense class, it's not easy. Professor Sha made this class enjoyable and comprehensible. I feel like I see the world a little differently after this class. Participate, engage and study.
This prof takes the class nice and slow during remote learning. 2 sections/week w 2 assignments/section. Only 2 exams & a final. Gives extra points on all exams which all have less than 10 questions. Points for attending class & lecture group work. Show up, do all assigned work and you can pass w/o great test scores. Would highly recommend.
Professor Sha was ok, but mediocre at best. I learned everything through ZyBooks, an online interactive textbook, and nothing really from him. His Zoom classes were mandatory, otherwise he would dock off points. I think he normally wouldn't teach this class, but because the former CS teacher left, he had to cover it and was not well prepared.
Hands down worst Math teacher I have had. If you need to take college algebra or calculus do not take this man. He is rude to his Calculus students told them that its baby math its not that hard
Worst teacher I've ever had. Seemed like study guides were made to deceive us. Ruthless grader. He doesn't teach what's on your hw or exams bc Sha's method is using the hw to introduce you to Calc topics. SO much hw each week (90+ problems weekly), and you have to teach it all to yourself. VC's tutors were my primary source of instruction.
Do not recommend for Elementary Statistics. Almost only lectures and no time to help through any problems asked in class. The study guides only had the smallest amount of information to help and the rest was filled with slides we didn't even go over in class. Hard to understand video lectures and SO MUCH HOMEWORK. Could not keep up with homework!
Prof Sha is awesome, I think he does a good job of getting to the point of what is important. I started with a 107% because of the super easy EC he gives (buy the book, set up account, do intro discussion, survey for what times work best). Also he will roast you if you don't participate for plickers Qs, which is pretty funny. Personality 10/10
If you care about your grade, GET TUTORING! Better yet pick another professor to take this class with. He really doesn't help you in class, and literally told us one day "I expected that you guys would fail," after we took a test. The class average for said test was 40%!
This professor is one of the worst professors I have ever taken. He would make mistakes on his exams constantly and expressed that calculus is "baby math", yet made this class almost impossible(had about 90+ questions per week). I hardly learned anything from his confusing lectures, the tutoring center was my primary learning source.
Took for a summer course, very good professor for a limited time. There is a bit of homework but definitely helps to do it. Participation during the zoom session is very important since being in class is valuable to the course. You can reach out to him with time and he will help. AspireMtnAcademy on youtube helps with mylab hw.
He is an okay professor but he is a harsh grader I took him for summer and his grading is like .17 or .6 I understand that math is a challenging course already get ready to read alot I think he should just give full point not half points like I said its alot to learn in 4 weeks a to be graded so harsh.
Saliha Sha is an exceptional professor, particularly for aspiring computer science students. He possesses a remarkable ability to make classes highly engaged through his great sense of humor. Also, when teaching us about discrete math, he adeptly emphasizes the most crucial aspects relevant to computer science in each chapter.
I would go to the tutoring center after class because he has a very complicated way of teaching. I would understand the concepts better with a tutor, than the professor. He makes math harder to understand than it needs to be. Also, he's a very harsh grader. It's nearly impossible to get a perfect score on an assignment.
He will ask 3 questions during a 2 hour lecture and they will be graded at the same weight as the 300+ questions you will have in homework that week, do not take this class, do not take this professor, stay away from the 4 week course. The lectures are much too fast paced and you will rely entirely on tutors to learn.
He releases PP's, assignments, HW and pre-recorded videos prior to class. Goes over assignments in class so if you watched his videos and attempted the assignments then you can check your answers before submitting. He prints out all PP's for students. Online hw can be attempted until you get a 100%. 1 final, no tests. No textbook required.
Just impossible to understand. He skips steps and doesn't care to teach, only likes to hear himself tell everyone how smart and funny he is, while blissfully solving equations and refusing to actually be a teacher. This class, and his inability to teach are a joke and part of the reason nearly 2/3rds of the class dropped after 2 sessions.
I really wanted to like this guy...but he skips steps and doesn't care to teach, only likes to hear himself tell everyone how smart and funny he is, while blissfully solving equations and refusing to actually be a teacher. This class, and his inability to teach are a joke and part of the reason nearly 2/3rds of the class dropped after 2 sessions.
Talks a LOT and is confusing when you're trying to understand from his lectures. A lot of the work/material is self-taught through a textbook. Still, there is mandatory attendance as well as participation questions in his Zoom/class. His participation questions you only get ~60s to answer which is not very accommodating. He has a negative mindset.
While I did not pass Professor Sha's class in the Fall 23 Semester, he was very kind and diligently helped me catch up where possible. He is an amazing professor, his lectures are beautifully conducted, his sense of humor mixed with his accent is adorable, and his knowledge is vast. He is also very fair. Don't let him down, and you'll thrive.
never written one of these but I actually am being so honest dont take this class if you dont want to fail. Never put more work and effort into a class in my life. Every test was barely passing. the lectures are so bad its not even worth it to watse your time watching lectures. should be advertised as a self taught class.
The grading in the class i took: textbook homework: 50% Participation (through zoom): 20% Canvas quizzes: 10% Midterm: 10% Final: 10% This class's grading is super generous and fair. As long as you put in the work at the start of the year, you're going to be fine. Tests are only 30% of your grade. So, attend the zoom and put your best foot forward.
I would advise against taking this professor for an online summer course. Seems nice, but nit-picks insignificant details on homework and takes points off whenever he can. His teaching is him telling us to copy work from recorded lectures. He leaves vague reviews when grading, and then when you ask for clarification he just tells you to move on.
This class is rough. Lectures are dry and consist of him solving problems while vaguely describing how he is solving them. Homework is graded by the computer so you never really get feedback, and your grade depends on two exams. However, he does post great practice exams. Go to his office hours, it really helps!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He takes points off for the littlest things. He doesn't teach! The final was very complicated and very long.
Professor Sha was great to learn from. Coming from someone who is absolutely horrible at Math, I was able to pass a calculus class with a B! I'm extremely satisfied with how he has the course set up, and he's very clear on how things are graded. His personality is very kind, and he loves to pull out an occasional joke. 10/10 from me :)
Highly don't recommend him due to lots of work, which makes you stress out also makes you overthink
Hardest class I have taken in my entire academic career. If you aren't willing to spend 20+ hours a week on one class, do not take business calculus with Professor Sha. I wish I could attach an image and show you the amount of paper I have wasted on this class. Save your GPA, mental health, and your wrist!
Give benefit of the doubt since math isn't my best subject. But, not very encouraging besides "You have the right start..." when explained my situation and moved way too quickly during tutoring. Grading criteria for a certain assignment type was changed unexpectedly so missed points. Lots of homework and quizzes and felt course was self-taught.
Professor DOES NOT TEACH. Assigns youtube videos that dont match homework or exams, gives unrealistic workload, no extra credit, little feedback, and inconsistent grading. Not supportive or involved. I had to teach myself the entire class. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. If he has specific expectations, he needs to explain them providing his own lectures :(
89.51% B Final grade. Does not answer messages or emails. Grades are pretty much random. Doesn't leave comments as to why something is graded the way it is. Wrote about 150-200 pages of handwritten assignments, exams, and homework throughout this course. Avoid at all costs.
He's a very confusing professor. Accuses of cheating when cheating hasn't occurred, doesn't give credit when is due. He makes confusing videos to demonstrate how to do the coursework and then doesn't give you full credit when you do exactly as is said to do in video to receive full credit.
Do not take this class My friends who passed AP Calc AB with 5's could not help me in the last 3-4 sections of the course. Online and Hand written work is assigned along with videos to watch. If you do not have an insane amount of time to study and teach yourself pick another prof. He is a nice guy but cannot teach once things get complex.
