She is very helpfull if you have questions all you have to do is ask and she will do anything to help you understand. Not to strick on grading papers....she gives you chances to correct them after gradeing.....great teacher if your not to good at english
She is extremely easy. She gives you the answers to all of her tests and all you have to do is memorize. There's a bit of work to be done with 2 papers, reading journals, and group reports but she doesn't grade hard. The class was prettt fun.

Good teacher will help you if you ask, test aren't diffcult, she does require papers but gives you other chances to help your grade

She cancels class often, and we always got out of class about 30 minutes early. You have to write about 5 papers and you get to revise them to improve your grade. We only had a few quizzes, and we had a take home final.
she takes forever grading things, so be prepared to be patient. otherwise it is an easy class you can turn in crap for papers and she will still give you a B.
Sally is probably one of the most upsetting teachers here at the university. She doesn't REALLY read your papers and what ever grade you make on your first paper will be the grade you make on all of the rest and for the final. DON'T TAKE HER!
She is not a good teacher at all. She makes up things to give you the wrong grade and she won't give you credit on things you turned in. She never gives papers back on time and she doesn't grade fair at all. I would not recommend her for anybody.

She is laid back and is quite funny. The assignments she gives are easy, but you will learn a lot from her. I enjoyed her classes very much and would recommend her!

Summer class is fairly easy- reading is very inresting and easy to write on. Grades fairly and is clear on assignments. Overall is a good teacher would recommend her for easiness!!
Her class is pretty easy. You don't have any tests just a few quizes but she tells you about them ahead of time. She grades fairly on the essays. Be sure to know the syllabus because there is alot of information in it that could hurt you later on in the class.

she is an excellent english teacher
Ms. Brannen is a GREAT english teacher. The assignments were fairly easy and she allowed you to redo them for a better grade. There are no tests, only quizzes, and she tells you about them ahead of time. I would definately recommend her.
She was an excellent teacher. She went over everything, and if you needed help she was there for you. If I could I would take her again. She made class very enjoyable. I recommend her to anyone.
She's great. You do peer workshops, and she lets you redo 3 out of your 5 papers. You know the first day of class when they'll be due, and what they should be over. She's very nice, and she'll work with you. I want to take her for 112 too.

She is a great teacher. I am taking her right now and wish I could for 112. She makes everything easy to understand and she is always helpful.
She is very helpful and gives you a chance to revise your final papers at the end of the semester. She has a good sense of humor and is very understanding.
She is wonderful!! She is honestly the nicest teacher that I've had. I really wish I could take her for 112. I know that I will not find a better professor!!!!!!!
Mrs. Brannen will help you pass her class. She lets you revise a few of your papers at the end of the semester to raise the grade by a letter. If you can, sign up for her class!
She is a great teacher. Be careful about the late papers, she sticks to the one late paper limit NO MATTER WHAT the circumstances are. She's very helpful and wants you to pass the class! I'd advise ANYONE to take her class! She's great!

very easy and good teacher... take her on T and TR classes cuz you get out 20 mins into class. I stayed in her class the full time only once!

She is a great teacher, but grades papers hard. You have assignments before every class and 6 papers. I liked her but not the subject.
Would not recommend anyone to take her for English 261. You really do not learn anything. She is not prompt on getting grades returned to you. It takes her months to grade any of your work. She says one thing in class but expects perfection. She's a UTM professor that I would stear clear of. If you want help it's easier to talk to a brick wall.
DON NOT TAKE HER!!! I took her and on some days we only said in class 2-5 mins so she could explain a paper which when graded it was graded totally different from what she told she wanted...She's very quite or shy or something and wont answer you questions....SO DONT ASK.. If possible take some1 else

I like her as a person...she is really funny...usually you get out of class early, which is always nice. She grades hard. Be prepared to have your papers checked before you turn in your final draft. By like two people or more. Besided that i like her.
WARNING: DO NOT take her for Eng 112. She doesn't help when you ask questions and doesn't explain how she wants a paper to be written until 1 day before it is due. She grades completely different than what she says!! I had other eng professors edit my papers..they said they were great paper...she gave me a C. Take anyone else EXCEPT s. brannen!
Horrible class. Would not ever recommend anyone taking her class!! Worst english teacher at UTM. Does not grade based on what she says in the first day of class and the work that she has you do is really just a bunch of crap. Do not take her if you can avoid it!
Definitely a tough class. Very verbal with little eye contact. I wanted to do well but her expectations are high and at the same time kind of vague. Very organized and you will learn to write a paper, she pays alot ofattention to detail without too much insight.

I earned an A in her class but she docked me a letter grade because of attendance policy. She is vague when saying what she is looking for in a paper. The only good thing about her class is that you get out early.
No way in hell will I take her ever again. She cannot teach at all. Whatever you get on your 1st paper is the grade you will keep the entire semester no matter how good it is. When it comes to revising a paper, your better off not even doing because she will still say its not good and give you the same grade over again. DON'T TAKE HER CLASSES!!!!!!
Strict attendance policy. Had a B, she docked me to a C for missing lab hours. Writing lab is mandatory component. (1hr/week). Grades papers tough for a low level class. No eye contact. Unclear of expectations. Lets you out early a lot, though. Laughs at her own jokes a lot. Clothes are almost always too small.
I am not going to say what I would like to say. I will only say if you have the opportunity to take someone else, anyone else, then do not take her. SHE IS A TERRIBLE ASSISTANT LECTURER! She does not have her PhD. I am VERY disappointed.
TAKE SOMEONE ELSE! I think she doesn't understand that the class was ENGLISH 100! Meaning we don't have a lot of experience with writing papers. She was WAY to rough with grading papers. Seriously take someone else!

She is the worst teacher ever! You will get a C on your paper...no matter how good it is. Don't even bother revising your papers. Go to class, or you will not do well at all. You get out of class early,which is the only good thing about that class.
She does not grade papers how she says she will. She also marks your grade lower if your opinion on stories or essays differ from hers. She tells you that your paper is very good yet you can't make above a C on anything. I would not recommend taking her if you can take someone else!
I don't know how folks hate her so much, except if they're mad about doing badly... Well, these folks should know it's all about how much effort you put in. I found her to be very impartial, professional, and organized. I hate English with a fiery passion only hell knows; I worked HARD and made an A. Terrible subject. Great professor. Top 5.
This woman is a terrible teacher. Everyone in my class made C's on all their papers. Every once in a while someone would make a B. Anyways, do not bother revising your paper.. unless it's genius she will not give you ANY extra points.

Lectures are a bit boring. Overall if you try your best & actually but some effort in it then you will pull off a B like I did! She also allows you to revise a few of your papers! If you read the comments she marks on your paper & correct mistakes & add more detail then you will recieve the next higher grade letter on it. difference btwn a C & B!
Take Someone Else...I started off with a B...and then from there on Had a C on Each paper even though I Put My Hardest Effort Into It, And At The End Of The Semester She Gave Me An F But Couldn't Explain To Me Why I Had Gotten That Grade...Weird Teacher Do Not TAKE HER CLASS DROP HER IMMEDIATELY !!!!!
Good instructor, lectures get a little lengthy, but thats how most are. Grades first paper with leniency, increases in toughness as she expects you to apply skills you've learned and not repeat previous mistakes made on papers. Teaches freshmen courses and doesn't get a fair rating because they are still in shock and rate her porrly out of spite.
Grades 6 essays with increasing difficulty. She allows for revisions and with 10 easy small grades and a take home final a easy A or B is possible
The 1st Paper will be graded with ease but every paper after the first I received a "C" no matter how hard I worked it wasn't good enough. As far as quickly returning graded papers don't expect to get them back until it's time to turn in the next paper. Great thing about her was the take home final. It took 2 and 1/2 half days, but I completed it.
She is awful! She doesn't follow a specific guideline to grading essays! She tells you something to put in your essay, and then counts it wrong! She also counts off for citations if they are improper English, even if you copied it directly from the text! That is NOT your fault!
I took english with her my first semester of college and it was not as bad as these people say. I recieved one C the rest were above that. In our class she graded the first two harder than the last ones as long as you show improvement! She is not a bad teacher! YOU do have to try though.
She was a great teacher. She does grade hard, but she is DEFINITELY not as bad as everyone says. I made B's on all my papers. She allows for 2 revisions, and is very helpful. Take her if you are willing to put forth some effort. Don't if you are lazy.
She's a great prof for students that are actually willing to PAY ATTENTION and WORK. The people whining that she grades too hard and is inconsistent clearly screwed around and tried to turn in some bullcrap they wrote the night before. She is VERY helpful if you ask her. Okay, so she is not the easiest professor to take. She expects a lot of her students and does not accept laziness in any form. If you do not attend her class and if you don't do your lab hours you will not pass. She gives you two weeks to make up assignments and she gives you ample time to do your work. If you want an easy grade do not take.
She is very nice, however she does constantly change due dates and it makes it hard to remember when everything is due. She also grades very hard. Definitely not an easy teacher.
Didn't like her class. Her class was like a class where she gives you a few tips then makes you write back to back to back papers. I had no time to really breath and she was extremely knit picky. I love English, I hated her class.
Took her last semester she wants to much… Technology platforms she uses don't work.? Should only be restricted to teaching English majors due dates constantly changes makes class mandatory because she takes roll counts off if you don't come even when we KNOW what we have to do and she has nothing to teach sigh...
Brannen is a hard grader. She mainly gives everyone C's. The great things about her class is that she allows 2 revisions for papers and the final is take home. I earned a "A" in this course. I took it Fall 2011.

THE WORST TEACHER AT UTM!!!! PERIOD. She will turn you in to student conduct for basically one sentence sounding like something from someone else. she is just awful! I HATED HER! I've never made below an A in any English class, but I got a D in her class along with a year probation!! WARNING, She is evil!

She's honestly boring but easy too. She grades a little tough on her essays but the homework outweighs it. You have plenty of homework to do almost everyday. Gives out a lot of essays too. Start on the connect as soon as possible helps a lot in the end. Her final was extremely easy!
Her grading was very tough. She marked me off when I wrote a paper over "A Rose for Emily", because I stated that suitors were chased away by the father. She said the reader may believe the suitors were "physically abusing the daughter". Every paper she marked off the smallest things. The homework is only worth 1-2 points. Take another professor!
She graded very harsh on the essays which make up about 75% of your grade. Her expectations were not very clear. She expects a lot of detail in your essays and she takes about a week to grade them. There are in-class assignments and hw worth 1 or 2 points. If you do take her, start the connect assignment early! She did bump my 89.4 to an A though.
Rude this semester. Assigned homework(25 questions)over spring break then says it's not worth anything. Tough grader. Takes a long time to grade. Treats class as if it is your only class and you don't have anything else to do.
What a wonderful professor! I really enjoyed her Poetry class. I think that she doesn't get the credit that she deserves! She went above and beyond for her students. You can see that she really cares about her students! It really shows!
She gives a lot of homework and essays that she takes over a month to grade. Grading criteria seems simple but marks off the littlest things and grades based on how much she likes you. 99% of the class always gets a C no matter what you do. If you dont have the same view as her she will mark your grade down. DO NOT TAKE HER!
This teacher basically looks for plagiarism. I had to be put on probation for what she called plagiarism just because my thoughts on a poem were similar to someone else. I didn't copy anyones thoughts. She is ridiculous and her class is only full of poems. You'd be better off taking someone else.
She was okay. Although she was a little tough on grading papers.
I didnt mind how the course went but her grading was the part that was a no for me. She looks super hard at what she calls plagiarism. I did a paper and in my opinion it was not plagiarism but she reported me for plagiarism and I had to be on probation for a year and I basically was just above failing (D) so no credit.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She pretty much just gives C's but tries really hard to mark the littlest things. I wrote a paper that mentioned something she said in class and she marked it saying it was not a good opion on the book. Her grading makes no sense. She also take a long time to grade and makes excuses of why it's late.
Grades for attendance. Grades essays rather strictly. Assigns about 50 homework assignments that all combined are worth a single essay grade, and she has six essays. So don't stress over homework. Most of the time it is graded for completion anyhow. Final is confusing, since there is no review or study guide. Though she can be nice. Recommend.
Professor Brannen was really kind, and very caring. Her lectures are boring at times but other times shes lots of fun. Lots of group-work activities that brighten the class. ESSAY HEAVY. You will write 6 essays. The first 4 are easy, but essays 5 and 6 are hard. She's def an easy grader, though.
She grades ridiculously heavy on essays, and she gives us a vague prompt to do. She nitpicks every little detail down to the tea. Overwhelming with the amount of work. Sets due date to 5:00 while most students who work till 5:00 or after 5:00, and she acts like this is our only class that we take.
She is very easy to talk to. She is very understanding if you talk to her. She has papers due every two weeks but gives you a two-week grace period. Make sure to run your essays through an AI detector before turning it in.
Professor Brannen's class has a heavy focus on essays, but with the help of tools like Unstuck study, the workload can be managed. While grading can be strict, engaging with the class makes it worthwhile.
