This is a very easy class. However, be aware of the very long lectures. Dr. Davey does utilize the whole class period. I want to emphasize one thing: participation matters. You must answer or ask questions in class. Dr. Davey is very helpful and she wants students to succeed, so she gives a lot of hints during class about answers on quizzes.
Loved having Professor Davey. She cares about her students and wants them to succeed. However, you need to work for your grade. Utilize office hours at the beginning of the year and she will love you for the rest of the year. Have her review your essay before you turn them in as well.
Not helpful whatsoever. The class is primarily focused around group work. When she does lecture, it is vague and not all of the info that will be on the exam. Group work is never graded or given points.
Prof. Davey isn't a great Prof and I wouldn't recommend her. She rarely lectures and when she does they are dry, boring, and I often find my mind wandering as she goes on. Study the textbook, she doesn't teach much. Very disappointing, has turned me off of counseling almost entirely. If not for the book I would give up on it as a career option.
She is a heavy talker and really uses the powerpoint. She seems as though she knows what she's talking about. Don't skip class, she takes attendance very seriously. When it comes to giving instructions on assignments she can be very confusing. She makes a lot of mistakes when grading, check all papers to see why she took off certain points.
Dr. Davey wants you to succeed and will help you any time you need it. The exams are really hard and confusing, she does her best to prepare you for them but the wording on the exam is just plain confusing. Lectures are alright, but participation is a must, at times she even gives extra credit for it.
Super easy. Show up and answer her questions to the class in the beginning to get her on your good side. Besides that, mostly just really boring. She was nice and accessible outside of class, reassigned things if needed, etc., just didn't really spark my interest in the study itself.
I had a great experience with this professor, but had friends who did not have the same experience. I would recommend getting on her good side early. Answer her questions. Very nice and sweet. Goes through powerpoints fast and doesn't post them online. Study guides are very similar to tests. Go to class for participation and notes and you'll pass.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. Davey and she is very knowledgeable. That being said, I probably wouldn't go out of my way to take a class with her again. She was not always the most receptive to questions that students had in class and her explanations were less than clear most of the time. The class was easier if you read the textbook.
Dr. Davey is probably a good professor on campus, but do not take her online. She is not easy to talk to and grades extremely rough. She takes off point for the smallest things, does not explain her reasoning behind it, and expects you to fix those mistakes without giving you a reason on why they are errors. I wouldn't take her again.
Would not choose to have this prof. again! She does not make sense, goes through her PowerPoints very quickly while skipping half of them, doesn't post PowerPoints online or allow time to write the information down in class. She is very scattered in the way she lectures, very strict on attendance, and don't expect to get your questions answered.
Terrible professor. Grades too strictly and acts like we are all graduates with a Masters in Psychology. Powerpoints are way too long and she does not give enough time to take notes and she does not post powerpoints. Not an enjoyable professor/class at all.
Once you get used to her, Professor Davey is really great. She is extremely knowledgeable. She moves through powerpoints very quickly so take brief notes or pictures of the slides. Her grading was not overly harsh but she definitely won't give you an A just for turning something in. Her directions are not always clear so just ask her to clarify.
I wish I looked at this site before I entered the class , she is horrible!! To start off, the teacher does not post slides and goes through them 50mph so its hard to write anything down. What is really hard is the papers. The teacher cares more about APA format than material. Received a C on two papers with comments on citation nothing else!
If you want a good education and to become a strong writer, this is the teacher for you. She doen't post PowerPoints because they are supplemental. 200 level students should be able to take notes based off of her verbal lecture. She provides thorough study guides to the tests. Her grading is difficult (& APA heavy), but fair. Just follow the rubric
Be ready to participate. Power points might be a bit dry, but they are still useful and educational.
Professor Davey is a pretty average professor. Her class is lecture heavy, she does go fast on slides so make sure you also read the book at home! She is understanding and her study guides really help!
Generally speaking, Davey's classes are lecture and group work heavy, however the assignments for her class aren't difficult if you pay attention and take proper notes. She is one of the few professors that offer extra credit. Office hours with her/her IA help a LOT; take her class seriously and you will prosper. Do NOT skip class either, trust me!
She has a ridiculous expectation for papers at the 300 level. I made that mistake on my first paper and it came back to bite me. Participation is a big deal. She likes to go through the power point fast and wont post it . Good luck getting it all done if you can get another professor.
Worst professor I've had. She doesn't post powerpoints. Course material is easy and powerpoints don't pertain to the exam Q's-- they're pulled out of her butt. She's unintentionally rude. She's also so old that her input is outdated-- she's in her 70's and should probably retire ASAP. Her mind is going. Assignments are easy. Go to class.
Do not take this professor. The IA and her did not get along and the expectations for each assignment changed daily. Very vague instructions, but graded incredibly tough. Easy class, very VERY hard grader. Even if you asked for clarification on assignments, she would not explain anything. She is nice, but man does she grade tough.
She is very strict in grading her papers, luckily my IA was the one who graded mine. Make sure you format it to how SHE wants it. Her tests however are very easy and word for word with the study guides. Study guides are also the answers to the test questions, though her wording in rubrics/study material/tests can be confusing.
I am currently taking Psy102 with Dr. Davey Summer II 2019. I have already taken Psy101/102 before but the University did not accept my credits. Dr. Davey has been nothing short of one of the nicest, accommodating, easy to talk to, and easy to follow. Extensive clinical experience in the field. Because of her, I am pursuing a Minor in Psych.
I would not recommend this class at ALL. The professor does not post the slides on loud cloud, she skips half of them and the rest reads super fast. You basically are your own teacher. Her instructions never make sense and she is very strict on APA format. This class overall is the messiest and most unorganized ever. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
Dr. Davey, is an amazing professor. She is a little intense but she cares immensely about her students. Her tests are word for word from the study guide and she makes sure she goes over every question. She doesnt post her slides but they are pretty easy to follow.
Sally is a real gem if you take the time to talk to her. She's a little on the older side, but wow she is caring. Her quizzes are verbatim the study guide so the tests are very easy as long as you complete the study guide. People who do bad in her class simply don't care because this is my second class with her and both were easy A's.
If you pay attention, you'll pass.
Dr. Davey is an awesome instructor! Follow the study guide and the quizzes are a breeze. Pay attention in class and you'll do fine. She really wants you to understand the material so don't be afraid to ask questions (she loves it!) *Make sure your APA formatting is perfect because she pays close attention to it!
Worst instructor I've ever had. Yeah she's sweet, but Im not in college to have sweet teachers. She is absolutely the most unorganized instructor I have ever had. Her grading habit are all of the place and make no sense. She also moves through the slides way too fast. I was hoping to really enjoy this class but I hate it..
honestly, by far the worst professor I've ever had. very strict and rude to her students. She says she will help if you need it but does not have a lot of office hours. Participation does matter a lot because she is the toughest grader I've had. need to be in class when she talks about essays because she makes SO many modifications to it.
Worst professor I've ever had. Makes the assignments 10 times more complicated than they need to be. Grades every single thing extremely hard. Focuses on every detail in LopesWrite. Not compassionate at all, gives no second chances. Not understanding at all. Goes through the lectures really fast and gives a lot of busy work assignments in class.
Dr. Davey is very clear about her expectations from the get go. Her study guides are word for word what the test is, however the wording on the test gets a bit confusing at times. She grades HARD!! I have never scored so low on a paper. I felt like I was in high school with all of her class rules. She has very high expectations of her students.
Probably one of the hardest psychology courses I've taken at GCU. Professor Davey is extremely hard to understand, but I would recommend you take notes, ask questions, etc in order to pass. She does a great job of using real-life examples and speakers to help inform the class about the role of a health psychologist.
She goes through lectures extremely fast and does not allow you to take pictures of the slides and does not post the powerpoints. She does not explain the assignments very clearly. She also gets frustrated/ angry very quickly, especially if people are whispering because she has a hearing aid so if there is extra noise she can't hear anything.
Sally Davey made me reconsider pursuing psychology. My confidence dropped from her criticism. I would try to make office hour appointments but she would never have time and tell me to see her IA instead. I really wish I checked reviews before taking her classes because it was the worst experience ever.
She is not a good professor. She talks way too much and does not get her point across. Not only this, she took points off for missing class if it was not due to illness. This is absurd since I was going to an important family event that was not in my control. She is somewhat rude and does not care for her students. I do NOT recommend her.
A very tough grader but teaches all the material you need to pass the class. If you don't have the time or motivation to put effort into a class do not take it. She makes you work for your grade but is very kind and well voiced in the psychology community. Hardest class I've ever taken but she is willing to work with you if you ask for help.
Not to much work from the class, however, Dr. Davey is very confusing in lectures and giving instructions making me wonder if she is actually good at her job. Doesn't seem to be trying to help her students. Doesn't teach the material needed so you will have to read the textbook a lot but to be honest that doesn't really help either. VERY CONFUSING.
I was pretty skeptical before taking this class after reading all these bad reviews about professor Davey. However, I loved her! She was really inspirational and of course, she is a tough grader but I believe that when students put some effort to it, she will appreciate it and give you good grades. Give her a chance and it will be worth it!
Professor lectures the entire time about information that is not on assignments or quizzes. Responds to questions with information that ignores the questions or in not helpful. Sends an extreme amount of announcements with information that is irrelevant. Hard to understand and hard to hear.
I would not recommend Dr. Davey. She is difficult to hear and understand and does not engage with the class in a meaningful way. She was also rude when I and another student contacted her to let her know there were mistakes in our online quizzes. It is still a pretty easy A if you put in the work, but it was a bad experience overall.
I found Dr. Davey to be an excellent teacher that is very knowledgable in what she teaches. She was so sweet and funny during class, and I would highly recommend her class. You definitely need to put in effort, and it's worth it if you do.
I had a ton of issues with this professor. She doesn't communicate clearly and she hates being told she is wrong ( especially when she messes up an assignment grade). She misguided 3 of my assignments and almost all of my DQ and BL assignments. I had to fight with her to fix my grades. Also she is hard of hearing so she can barely hear students.
I have never graded a professor, but professor Davey was the worst! She does not take her time on grading papers; one time I turned in a paper and it was poorly graded a few minutes later so I had to email her to fix it and she did (the grade went up). She is also so demeaning and rude to you if you do not agree with her.
I love Dr. Davey as a person but not a professor. Shes hard of hearing which makes it hard to genuinely communicate with her. Especially since once she feels like she gets what youre saying, she interrupts your talking and cuts you off. Group work heavy for in-class participation. Tough grader and her standards 4 assignments arent always clear.
She is super caring about her students and is very passionate about what she teaches. I think if you try in the class, you'll get a good grade it's that simple. Don't know why she has low ratings, she is really funny and honestly adorable.
Not my favorite professor. She has SUPER BIG on APA and will take away quite a few points if you do it wrong. She is in her 70s and it is SUPER HARD to understand her. She has a translator but he seemed just as confused as we were. ATTENDANCE MATTERS. The class itself its hard but you basically have to teach yourself.
Davey is an okay professor. I had her for child development as well and she taught that a lot better than health psych. I will never take her class again. She cares about grades and does not work with students. If have the option to take another professor, do it. You will regret taking her class.
I had Dr. Davey for child and ado development and I loved the class. As many other reviews stated she's hard of hearing but I never once found that to be an issue. She's incredibly caring, very experienced and I actually enjoyed her lectures. Class always was out early, I find her lectures to be interesting. I would take her again in a heartbeat!
Such a kind lady and unintentionally hilarious. She keeps everyone on their toes and will call you out. She is very knowledgeable in what she talks about, but her quizzes are so confusing (yet she gives you all the answers if you listen when she goes over the study guide). Ends the class with group activities every time.
Miss Davey was quite possible the worst professor I have ever had. Her unrealistic expectations and dictatorial control is nothing short of Orwellian. She consistently deducted points from my work because it "It hurt my feelings" and was gender-specific. Her grading system was unethical and most definitely anti-academic overall.
Professor Davey cares about students, however, she will not hesitate to call you out and causes more confusion than clarity. Her class is lecture-heavy, but she ends each one with group work. Exam answers are straight from the study guides, which she goes over in class. Grading was often inaccurate and she took points off unnecessarily.
Professor Sally was very inconsistent and tough on grading. she also isn't afraid to call you out and willl make you feel bad for giving the wrong answer.
Professor Davey is such a sweet and adorable person in general! But she reads directly from PowerPoints so most students aren't learning much, she gets distracted easily and always loses her place when speaking. She does have a hearing problem, so get ready to repeat yourself multiple times. Wouldn't recommend taking her class at all.
(For PSY 470): While this Professor is a wonderful individual, she is an extremely difficult grader. She often goes on tangents during class and does not teach material that aligns with the assignments.
Don't get her, she's not a nice person and it's difficult to get a good great in her class. She talks about random stuff so when it comes to tests and papers you have no idea what's going on. When you ask her questions about an assignment she says things that are not on the rubric or different than the rubric. Switch professors!!
Professor Davey is a tough grader and her lectures do not make sense. She will ramble on about things that are not even relevant to the lecture and will vaguely go over assignments then grade down tremendously for minor things. She also insists on doing pointless group work at the end of every class. Would not recommend taking her.
Professor Davey is not understanding whatsoever, based on my experience, and can be rude at times for no reason. For quiz review, all she does is read the study guide to you, although the quizzes aren't too difficult. I would not take this professor again based on my experience.
She is a cute old lady but tbh she is not a good teacher... we did so many random things that were unnecessary and she hardly ever gave me helpful feed back when I messaged her with questions.
Participation was mandatory regardless of any personal things going on in your life
This professor will always be right, even when she is wrong. She does not teach and instead uses outdated videos for an education we pay wayyyy too much money for. Get ready to fail assignments with no logic explanation. Do not take this class.
Professor Davey is awesome! Don't be deterred by the harsh reviews. People don't like how she grades, however if you are wishing to truly learn, she is definitely the professor to take! She is very knowledgable and cares deeply for her students. She is adamant about APA format, but she provides resources and is very accessible. She's awesome:)
Professor Davey is one of the most qualified professors at GCU. She has so much experience in the field and has been a teacher for a very long time. As long as you show her respect, she'll do the same for you. Correct APA format is SUPER important, so make sure you know that well. Quizzes are pretty easy if you do the study guides!
Dr. Davey has a bad reputation, but she is an absolute sweetheart! Her classes are short and fun and for the most part you do not need to pay attention in the lectures to succeed. She is somewhat a tough grader, but if you talk with her and try and understand exactly what she is looking for in her papers you will do well.
Professor Davey did not offer clear instructions or clarification about assignment expectations. I kept receiving poor grades on my papers, which is shocking because I love writing papers, and usually excel in courses with a lot of papers required. I do not feel like she actually did much to teach me in the class.
If i could rate this professor a negative zero i would. She should not be a professor at all. I hate to sound biased but this professor is too old to be teaching and gets confused about what shes even saying most of the time. Also will mark you off if you miss one class even if you're in the hospital.
do not take her. tough grader and expects you to include things that are outside of the rubric. often marks you down for "use of vernacular" but refuses to explain what that means. marked me down for things that were present in my papers and would not go back to change my grade. should be reported to the university and probably retire lol.
Although, she is very sweet, I didn't learn anything in her class. She always claimed there wasn't enough time to teach and then would end the class an hour early. Even though I scored well on most of the assignments, most of my friends in the class complained that the grading was not equal with all students. There is never any clear instructions.
Do not take Davey. Worst professor I have had yet. Horrible grader. Tells you to follow the rubric yet doesn't understand what the rubric says. Will not talk to you about your grade. She honestly needs to retire. Also, I can't stand listening to her talk. If you can, DO NOT take her.
I would not recommend Sally Davey. In my opinion, she was very unclear on grading criteria, would sometimes give me the wrong grade until I asked her about it, and was not tech-savvy at all. I felt that she belittled her students and made us feel dumb for asking questions about her inconsistent grading and unstable expectations.
She's not good at giving assignment feedback and any attempts at trying to get clarification for assignments is generally met with her repeating herself. She's engaging in the class and the short lectures are nice but that doesn't really help when she keeps taking points off for criteria that's clearly there but not labeled to her standards.
Dr. Davey was a good teacher. She was a harsh grader when it came to essays, which sucked a lot. Yet, there were also a lot of other projects she graded pretty leniently on. I will say, DO NOT skip this class, because there are participation points during every class she takes for, and if ur not there, you will not get the points.
She is not approachable, tough grader, doesn't take reworks, and class is never more than 40mins - 1 hour. Literally, just save yourself the time and stress and take someone else course
Class always ended after 30 minutes and I learned absolutely nothing. This class was a complete waste of my time and money. I'm also not fully convinced that she knows anything about Health Psychology. She also gave me a 20% on the paper after claiming I didn't follow the instructions. Come to find out she changed the instructions a day before due.
Professor Davey was a very sweet professor, and she wanted students to succeed, but she had very conflicting grading standards. Everyone was confused on assignments, and she did not do well explaining them. Some of her lectures and videos were outdated. Tough grader, says to look at the rubric but again, has conflicting feedback.
I would never take this professor again. She is one of the toughest graders and the criteria changes every assignment. She is very unavailable, and difficult to communicate with. It is my personal experience that I would have had a much better outcome with a different teacher. Tanked my GPA.
I chose to be pulled by SSC because of the bullying I received from the professor. She was ignorant and so mean. Said the rudest things regarding my disability. She was very unethical and this was an ethics class! I am disabled and she also was rude about that too! I am glad they got me out. She has been reported to the dean thankfully.
Dr. Davey was an interesting professor. She has a big heart but is definitely a different person when she is teaching. Her grading criteria is complicated and inconsistent. Her lectures are relatively short, but she can often get off track. Awesome person, not awesome professor.
I was warned previously about this teacher being a bad teacher but thought it was all hyperbole. MAN WAS I SO WRONG!! Her grading feels like she picks random numbers out of a hat and she is so picky! Her lectures don't make sense. If you ask questions, her answers will leave you more confused. Please, I am begging you, do not take this professor.
Dr. Davey is not as bad as people say she is, you just have to warm up to her. She is a very hard grader, but if you follow exactly what she wants on each assignment, you will do fine. Class usually goes by fast, and she makes studying for the exams SOOO easy.
Awful professor. Lectures make no sense. Gave basically everyone a C or lower on the first essay just because. Harsh grader and left feedback such as "it hurts my feelings" or "plagiarism because you used a direct quote". Tried to meet with her 4 times to discuss unfair grading but did not show up or made up many excuses, even for a zoom meeting.
Not bad. Very strict when it comes to grading and doesn't provide useful feedback. Lectures are not the best, but she does post the PowerPoint, the class was short, and if she writes her own test, she basically gives all the answers in the review. Sometimes can be insensitive but she tries. Overall I think she's a good person but not the best prof.
Please, if you see this before you have a class with her, switch out. Save yourself.
TERRIBLE PROFESSOR, a horrible grader. Shes like 100 years old, and is never available through halo. She grades things terribly, multiple times ive had to go back to her to check my grade because she gave me a 0 for a section i had completed. SAVE YOURSELF WHILE YOU CAN.
Dr Davey is such a sweet and caring professor, but her grading style is awful. She grades so harshly on the essays, barely anyone gets good grades. If you are not a psych major, TAKE PSY-470 ONLINE. It should not be a class that brings down your grade, but if you take it with Davey it will.
I would NOT take this professor again. The lectures were being read from a slide, and she never answered questions directly. I had serious health concerns, and she did not work with me at all on making up work or participation. She is very strict when it comes to guidelines and policies and does not budge for anyone or for any circumstance.
DO NOT take her class. Although she's very kind and funny, her grading is horrid. Every assignment is returned, complained about, then labeled as late even after you make the fixes she asked for. And no matter what your corrections are always WRONG. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS.
Very rude and unprofessional. Tough grader and complains about everything.
Professor Davey can be very sweet sometimes. HOWEVER, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. She claims that everyone is ageist towards her, but in reality, it is just time to retire. She will NOT discuss grading. All in all, she can be sweet, but it's not worth your grade or learning of the content.
I personally enjoyed her class. Many students complain about her grading, but I found the assignments very straightforward. My lowest grade came from a group project, but I never lost more than five points on other l assignment. She's strict about APA, but it's manageable. Class never went over an hour, and I honestly found her pretty funny
While a lot of people dislike Prof. Davey, I thought she was funny and quirky, making lectures interesting with real-world scenarios that she would act out. She never held class too long, usually getting out within 1 hour and 10 minutes. The mid-term and final were online, although they were lengthy. I would reccomend for Abnormal Psych!
