she rocks!
sallys the man.
Great prof
awesome prof, makes class interesting
I only wish all profs were as nice a person and goodlooking as her.
hard to believe you make anything other than an A or B. the test are the same as the practice test. the class and any other class are as hard as you make it, i.e. if you do not study and can not recognize the problem and how to solve it then thats your fault. i cant name another class where you know exactly whats going to be on the test...
I like her. If you do all of her test bank problems (which are available in a package at the school's bookstore) and her homework, you're guaranteed at lease a B in the class. On top of that, she's a really funny ans sweet lady too. Once she told the class, "Hedge funds are like mutual funds on steroid."
This might be the most useful class that I have taken. She is very fast paced. But, if you just follow along and pay attention, you'll be fine. You need to pay attention 100% percent of the time, but it's not difficult because she keeps it interesting and everybody can benefit from the subject matter.
Idk why everyone is saying this is easy and interesting. She is boring and makes things unnecessarily hard. Go to Tutor John and he will actually explain it in a way that's easy to understand.
If you follow the lecture guide, and take all the practice tests she gives you, you should do okay. Chris at TutorJohn was so so so so helpful and made everything make a lot more sense than when she just breezed through new material, You take 12 quizzes and she drops 4 (which is your "curve") but that quiz average is worth the same as a test.
Agree with the previous reviews. YOU need tutor john to make an A or a B. Lectures are not too bad, but won't prepare you for the exams. Exams are 80% of your grade and 20% for the quiz average. Exams can be tricky. Overall, a hard class but you can manage it.
Definitely a weed out course. The class covers tons of information very quickly. I studied 3 weeks before every exam and still had to drop. It's important to understand accounting and stocks before taking the class. She mentions random trivia in class about NYSE and history of the stock market, WRITE IT DOWN! Some of it will show up on exams.
Professor Guyton is hands down one of my favorite professors ever. Take the time to go to her office, ask questions, and get to know her, she is very helpful. If you do read the book, review your notes and go to class you do not need Tutor John or any other outside tutoring services. The class is not as hard as everyone makes it sound
This class is the reason why I chose finance as my major. Her lectures are thoroughly enjoyable, but make sure to listen attentively or you may get lost. Do all her practice problems/test bank and you are guaranteed at least a B.
Guyton seems more interested in her own financial portfolio than the class material. However, she gives you an extensive collection of past exams that are EXACTLY like the exams you will have. It's a pretty big gift.
She actually hasn't shown up for class yet.
She gives you all you need to pass - exams from years past, etc. Quizzes can help or hurt you - study for them!!! I didn't learn much in lectures... Go to Tutor John's weekly sessions - Chris is awesome.
Professor Guyton is the female Bob Ross of teaching FINC 341 at Texas A&M. Fantastic teacher, and she communicates her love of finance to the students well. If you are starting this class, shoot for a 100 quiz average and study at least 3-4 days out from the test, at least 2 hours a day. By doing this and paying attention, you should be fine.
Professor Guyton is very knowledgeable, but I often found it hard to follow what she taught. It seems like she forgets that we don't have 20+ years of Finance experience. Going to Tutor John really helps. The old exams are helpful, because they are usually pretty similar to the one you will take.
She is knowledgeable and can explain the course even to those not finance inclined. You must really listen to the lectures and do the homework to make sure you understand the theory behind the problems. The practice exams are the most useful things and are almost quantitatively identical to the tests. She's very helpful and kind. Would take again.
Not gonna lie, this class is extremely difficult if you don't understand finance. Go to lectures and pay attention and make sure to get a 100 quiz average because that will act as a huge curve. Her tests look pretty much exactly like her old tests so just study those a bunch. Although her class is hard, you can tell she cares about her students
She does such a great job of explaining how to do both problems and the theory side of things. She was absent this semester for 3 weeks total and let me tell you, the TAs are nothing compared to her. Tests are easy if you prep with the samples she's given. Tutoring isn't necessary: go to class, do the homework, & ask questions if you're confused!
She goes very fast in class, but she'll always stop to make a joke or answer a question. She loves to interact with the class, and she's always great for a conversation outside of class.
One of the worst teachers I've ever had. She doesn't teach the material so much as write down numbers an expect you to understand what they mean. Definitely study the old exam packet. Go to Tutor John if you really want to learn the material. Write down any current event she says because she tests on those things.
Sally is what I consider a hot mess at times. She is all over the place and thinks that we have 20+ years of financial expertise. The quizzes aren't bad if you do her suggested hmwk and the tests are manageable with the practice exams. Half completed problems and skipping 15 pages of the course pack are to be expected on the daily.
Goes too fast. Exams are full of theory questions that can throw your grade off if you don't completely understand the concepts and material she discusses in class. Most people do the worst on the first exam (68 average) Make sure you practice all the problems multiple times. I had best results when I started studying 10 days early for the exam.
YIKES, this was certainly not Sally's semester. This class was difficult simply because of her poor teaching, she is smart and understands her material well so often skips over explanations thinking we know what's going on in her head. Go to Tutorjohn weekly if you want an A, I did and am barely getting an A. So sorry that you have to take this
Don't miss a single Tutorjohn exam review. Sally makes the first test hard, while making the second two easier to make up for the horrible grades. Cares more about organizations like FMA than teaching finance.
Don't ever miss class or get behind because catching up is hell. The course covers a lot of information quickly, and it takes time to fully grasp the concepts. Try and get 100% on all the quizzes. Doing the HW helps with the quizzes. Practice the past exams diligently. The theory questions are a pain! Try your best!! I never needed tutoring.
This class really isnt that hard if you do all the practice tests, you can definitely make 100s on the tests if you really try. There are 4 tests and 13 quizzes. she takes top 8 quizzes, so it is basically a free 100. The 1st test is the most difficult, the other 3 are all math. She really knows how to teach finance well and is passionate about it.
Make sure to do textbook homework to practice for quizzes in advance! Give yourself plenty of time to study for exams, and practice working different versions of the same long/difficult problems. Exams are all 25Q MC, and she puts the common mistake answers as choices. Study the concepts and know her current events for "MOST True/false" questions.
Guyton is really nice but she doesn't really know the math that she's teaching she seems to just have it memorized. It also doesn't help that she moves really fast and has terrible handwriting. The only reason that she has kids that get A's and B's is because all of us live in tutor John. Also she plugs her org FMA a lot
This class is difficult, but it's also not extremely horrible. Go to tutor John and you will for sure pass with a good grade. She takes 8/12 top quiz grades and drops the rest. Tests are hard but if you study the practice exams over and over again, you will do great on the exams.
This class isn't necessarily hard, it's just extremely time consuming. At least every other day you will be doing finance. There are a lot of quizzes that boost your grade and prepare you for exams. The first test is by far the hardest, but do the practice exams and you'll be okay. #collegeproblem #replacementproblem #yikes
Hardest class I have ever taken. DO PRACTICE EXAMS. Study well in advance or you will fail. Keep up with class or you will fall way behind. Prof wasn't terrible at explaining things, she just went really fast so it's very easy to fall behind. Go to Tutor John. Had to use a Q-drop on this class.
She knows her stuff, but sometimes it seems like she thinks we know the stuff like she does. So not everything comes out so clear. However, the quizzes help your grade, and she drops some. There are 4 practice exams for each of the 3 regular exams, and you can look at your exams for the final. This helps a ton. Not a bad class or prof.
Sally is awesome! She's very funny and knows a lot about finance. Do the practice tests and go to class and you'll do fine. The math is not hard, you just need to prepare well for the tests!
The content is really tough, not her. She really applies the content to real life scenarios and you learn a lot from it. First test is essential to doing well (tons of theory & current event Qs). 2nd Test is the hardest. 4.0 and Tutor John really Help. Id recommend taking it over the summer to be able to focus on just this class. No curves...
Sally is an amazing prof. She is very passionate about finance and wants all of her students to do well. You definitely have to do your part to succeed in this class. Doug at 4.0 is AMAZING and make sure you practice every single day. Do not wait until the last minute or you will not make it.
If you're stupid and have cheated your way through college, you're gonna struggle with the material. If you're smart and have some common sense in you, you'll be fine. She doesn't explain much, especially in the summer since its super fast paced. Be prepared to figure things out on your own. I learned so much (real life) stuff from this class!
I got an A in the class but only because I lived at 4.0 and go and Tutor John. Sally is a saint and very passionate about finance and by no means if she is a bad professor, but she teaches a very hard class that requires a lot of effort. 12 short answers quizzes, she takes the avg of the top 8, 3 exams with the final replacing the lowest exam.
All I have to say is, go to Tutor John! Sally does a decent job of teaching but Chris does an amazing job of helping you soak it up and apply it. I also learned real life application in this class! Practice, practice, practice all of the old tests!
This was a hard class and her test are just like the practice test. I ended up not going to class anymore only on quiz day and just studied the practice exams. the practice exams where just like the test.
Flies through lectures as if she has her lecture guide memorized. Grade consists of only tests and quizzes. She will make you hate theory questions. Current events are fair play on tests and quizzes since she sleeps, eats, and breathes CNBC. It is truly unfortunate that she is the only professor that teaches this class.
Guyton is a great prof but she flies through the material. You get old exams which you have to have or you won't pass the class. You definitely have to work very hard, but an A is doable. Don't worry about the assigned homework as much. TutorJohn is always there if you need help
Professor Guyton is truly a great prof and genuinely cares for her students, and is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. This class definitely requires you to learn and be able to apply the material and concepts. Each exam will have at least 2 theory based questions, therefore be sure to pay attention when she is discussing current events.
Sally knows finance really well, but most people struggle with her teaching style. The class can be overwhelming because she teaches as though you've already had a course in finance; nevertheless, GO TO CLASS because she talks about current events that will be tested. Also, expect to go to Tutor John every week; he is so helpful.
Tutor John is really your only hope for this class. Mrs. Guyton is super nice, but she is not a great teacher. Her class moves really fast and you just listen to her and follow along in her note guides. She gives 12 or 13 quizzes in class, but only takes 8 for a grade. Her tests are just old tests with new numbers, so pay for the old tests.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but to do well you should definitely go. If you just pay attention and do the homework to study for the quizzes and exams, you will do well. She gives you old exams to practice, and the exams are really similar to those. Just know how to do the practice exams and you'll be fine. Ms. Guyton is great and wants you succeed
Ms. Guyton is a great professor. She clearly knows what she's talking about and has alot of experience. However her lecture style is something you either like or don't like. If you do not like her lecture style, Chris from tutor John explains everything amazingly. 4 tests each worth 20% and your 8 best of 13 in class quizzes also worth 20%.
My advice: Go to every class through the first exam because current events/theory she mentions are heavily tested. After that, only go on quiz days. 2nd exam through the final, you don't even need notes. Simply go to TutorJohn (this is essential, not kidding), and do a bunch of old practice tests and drill it into your memory. A is tough but doable
Sally knows finance, but for an entry level course she isn't the right instructor. It was hard for me to follow along during lectures. She expects us to know a good amount of information relating to finance when not many of us do. Chris at Tutor John is a KING. If you actually want to learn and do well in the class you have to go to him.
GO TO TUTOR JOHN!!! I have never needed to go to tutoring for any subject so far but I had to for this class. Professor Guyton is a great professor but I didn't learn the material in her class. I went to one Tutor John session and my test grade went from a 64 to an 80. There are quizzes in class that are hard so be ready for them.
Guyton is a very interesting prof and clearly knows what she's talking about. She does seem a little advanced for an intro-level class, but interesting nonetheless. Tutor John will save your grade, go every week if you can.
I loved this class, but it is by no means an easy A. Most of the exams (besides the first one) are math-based, but there are always theory questions too. Show up to class because she likes to add specific info that you can't find anywhere else and will be tested on. The quizzes are super difficult, but it truly helps prepare you for the exams.
She is very knowledgeable in finance, however, her lecture style did not help me learn and she can go off on tangents. My advice would be to go to Tutor John and work through as many practice exams as possible and you should be fine. Overall the class is very doable.
I dropped this class twice. I hated every second and Tutor John will be your only hope. On one of her exams she gave us a "cheat sheet" that was not consistent with what we talked about in class and then market down students grades for it. During test reviews her questions are so hard that often she gets it wrong in front of everyone. Worst class.
Not as hard as people make her up to be. 4 exams that makeup 80% of your grade and quizzes that makeup 20% of your grade and are easy to get a full grade on. Not necessary to read the book. do as many practice exams as you can and you will get an A in this class.
Ms. Guyton is a really good professor. Although her teaching methods can be different at times, just go to TutorJohn if you don't understand. She is very knowledgeable about finance and truly wants students to succeed, but does make her course rigorous.
Sally G is a great professor. She is very caring and wants her students to succeed. She is guilty of assuming everyone likes finance and her class is tough but if you put in the work and use her practice tests you can get an A or B for sure.
Everyone said this class was hard, but honestly the only hard thing about it were the quizzes so watch out for those. For the tests, I would do 8 practice exams (I got extra from Tutor John's review sessions), and ended up with an A in the class. It's really not that bad, so don't worry about it that much.
Guyton is a sweet lady & is clearly very knowledgable in the finance world, but her lectures are tough to follow. She tends to skip around topics & the methods she has for her problems are often overcomplicated. My advice: go to Tutor John and work 2-3 practice exams and you will be FINE. The only really tricky part of the exams is the theory Q's.
Tutor John is the answer to this class! I watched the Tutor John lectures first, and then her lectures just to make sure I didn't miss anything. She likes to test on fun fact sometimes, so make sure to listen to her lectures just to catch those. Go to Tutor john and take the practice tests and you will be fine.
She knows a lot about finance itself and has good advice and knowledge of the stock market, but her exams can be very difficult. To make an A just go to Tutor John for every chapter and do the practice exams before each test. Nice lady just not the easiest to learn from.
CHRIS SELL AT TUTOR JOHN. We stopped watching her lectures because she just rambles on about things, whereas Chris explains the theory along with sample questions that will appear on exams. Go to Chris for every chapter and exam review, work as many previous exams (the ones you buy in the beginning of the semester) as you can, and you will be fine!
Professor Guyton is a nice lady and is knowledgeable about Finance, however her teaching style is a bit weird to most people, she tends to skip over a few topics which can make the class a bit confusing. The key to doing well in this class is buying the old tests the school offers, and learn the material from Tutor John, then go over the tests
Professor Guyton isn't a bad professor. She knows what she's talking about and is willing to help you understand the material. However, I found her lectures somewhat inconsistent as she has a tendency to go off on tangents or get side tracked. I would suggest to find tutoring and outside help (Tutor John / Flow Learning) to succeed in this class!
Fall 2020 Covid Review: From someone who is not a finance major nor interested in finance, this class is TOUGH. Everything was strictly asynchronous with long lectures from Spring 2020. Lectures were monotone and boring as with the terrible notes. Textbook was a heavy read. Best advice: go to tutor john and take 10 practice tests before the tests.
Not only a horrible teacher but she's a horrible person. Has little to no knowledge of finance, she just lectures off of her notes. Makes tests basically impossible, yet doesn't care about her job enough to actually teach. She uses videos that she made over a year ago and don't prepare you at all for the test. She gets paid to not do a thing. Awful
"Recorded" lectures do not cover what she puts on the tests. Only 4 tests. Never responds to emails. Her "Curve" is the question that was incorrect on the test to begin with... does not help the poor test grade average. Relies on TAs who don't even show up at scheduled times. Had to take this class and she is the only one who teaches it.
Throughout my two years here at A&M, I have never experienced a class as hard as FINC341. Let alone, a class that requires you to get non-stop tutoring because of how hard the material is. If you think watching/attending lectures will help you pass, you're sadly mistaken. You'll be teaching yourself a lot of the material. Four tests determine grade
Obviously, this class is hard. It's hard because of the content - not necessarily the professor. Dr. Guyton teaches this class asynchronously through videos, so it's tough to get the help you need. The key to passing this class is actually studying and doing the practice exams.
I took this course Spring 2021 asynchronous. She uploads lectures and you watch on your own time. There are 3 exams PLUS a cumulative final. My advice for this class: do the Tutor John chapter reviews and watch her lectures (at least for the first test), then do the self-check quizzes. Use Tutor John & old exams to prep for exams.
FINC 341 is the GPA dropper for BUSI majors, but Guyton is a good professor and really knows her stuff. Lectures are prerecorded so I went and rewatched them before exams. You do really have to study for this course since the 3 exams are the only grades. Utilize the practice exams and extra problems that she gives you-they really help.
Class was very lecture based. NO homework assigned. The example problems in her lecture video was very similar to the exams. Take detailed notes, memorize the facts/conceptual things, do the practice problems and you should make an A+ easily. Also she puts major curves into each exam (5-9 points)
Go to tutor john and just listen in lecture. Do a bunch of practice exams and youll be good. If you email her she is pretty quick to answer considering how many students she has. She is very smart, shes nice and shes kind of funny. You have to work for your grade but its doable for sure!
Guyton is definitely top 2 worst professors at TAMU. Have taken the class twice because she does not teach effectively or test on things she actually teaches. The only way to do well in this class is spending hundreds of dollars going to Tutor John so someone else can do her job for her. Every test question is a trick question so be prepared.
I liked Guyton, but it was a challenging class. Exams are JUST like the practice exams from the course pack, I recommend making a copy of the practice tests and then practice until you literally cannot get it wrong. Same type of theory questions asked in a different way and everything. An a is doable if you do well from the beginning.
Professor Guyton is great, but all of the most difficult concepts were taught only in class, and there was no way to review the concepts. If you don't grasp the concept in the 1-2 examples in class you're screwed. No matter how much you want to learn the concept, how much time you are willing to study, you cant. you miss those problems on the exam.
If you can take finance with another professor, do it. This is the hardest class I've taken in college, she does not lecture well. If you can, go to tutor john weekly. Tests are very hard but I do like how she posts the key right after. Weekly quizzes, 3 tests & a final. She told me I should "only be focusing on her class." Overall bad prof.
Go to lecture, take notes, and do the practice tests and you will be fine. Easier class than ACCT 229 IMO. Prof Guyton is pretty good at explaining things too.
I am a senior and I have had my fair share of "bad" or "tough" professors, but Sally Guyton is a different animal. She cannot explain the concepts if her life depended on it, and when she tries to explain the material, it is confusing. The class material itself is not bad, but Guyton is the WORST professor at A&M. She does not care about you.
Anyone who is saying this class is hard did not even try to do well. Before every test just look at the 4 practice tests she gives you. If you familiarize yourself with the types of questions on those, you will get an A on every test.
Start saving your tutoring money now. Spent every week in tutoring because the material is taught in the most complicated way. The only way I received my grade was by going to TutorJohn for weekly reviews and exam reviews. Even the TA's went to tutor john ... embarrassing for tamu and the prof.
Guyton is simply a bad prof. She is so bad at explaining things, that a majority of the class goes to tutorjohn to learn the material. She gives quizzes which can help you grade, but they can be pretty challenging. Tests are unreasonably difficult. Practice exams help for studying but don't rely solely on them to do well. Overall a terrible class.
Absolutely guarantee you the individual downvoting all the negative reviews is in somehow related to Guyton lol. Peep her grade distribution, its terrible. She has semesters with 30+ Q drops. Be prepared to pay for tutoring. Its effectively a must. The woman asked for the diameter of a window on a test lol. Shes a sweet lady otherwise though
Sally Guyton was a fantastic teacher and very interesting. She would relate what we were learning to current issues to try to engage her students. I really enjoyed having her as a teacher. Class is difficult though so I suggest attending the Tutor John sessions for this course. Definitely saved my A.
Read through the the lecture guide before an exam and do all of the practice exams given. I never went to a Tutor John session, but I'm sure they helped. The only issue were the quizzes, which were free response. It definitely took a while to grasp concepts, but by no means was she a bad professor. Just keep practicing those practice exams.
Guyton is a sweet lady, don't get me wrong, but she makes this class so much more difficult than it has to be. She doesn't really have the teaching voice that makes you want to listen and can't keep her class engaged. A lot of the times, it seems like she's talking to herself. Her exams aren't too bad but theory questions always got me.
worst prof ever, doesn't know how to relay concepts because not everyone is as smart as her and she doesn't get that. super nice but just doesn't know how to help her students understand the material
the prof is definitely knowledgeable, but is not good at teaching the material. Most everybody learned at tutor john who is AMAZING! A's are doable if your other classes are not bad however if they are good luck Charlie. Someone literally had a stress seizure 5 mins before our final and there was no compensation.
She definitely knows finance by heart but doesnt know how to teach it. Tutoring is your only way to get through this class unless youre just naturally smart. Will put a couple questions youve never seen before on a test to trip you up. Fortunately she will round you up if youre on the edge of the next letter grade. So glad this class is over.
Professor Guyton is really awesome when you get to know her. She may seem thick-skinned during class, but that's because she has to deal with many students who could care less about their grade. Don't be afraid to go to her office hours and get to know her and the TA's. You do not need Tutor John to get an A in this class!!!
NGL, this class was brutal. If you want and A, you have to live and breathe finance that semester. Professor Guyton is smart and really nice, but her class is not to be taken lightly. Tell your friends you can't go out much this semester, and you'll be busy most weeks. Once you get it though, you get it.
nice enough lady, but insufferably long, yawn-inducing lectures. the only way to pass the class is to complete all the practice exams and study for the quizzes. seriously, dont study any other way for the exams or its a waste of time. attendance is mandatory to do well, she tests over random facts she says in class
How she is still a professor here is beyond me. I am an A student but this class has broken me. It’s either be a genius, go to tutoring every week or fail. I have the upmost disrespect for her and the way she maliciously writes her tests. If she was a good professor she would adequately prepare you and not try to trick you on tests.
Class is based off of 4 tests and quizzes, luckily she drops 4. Lectures include lots of information every class. Go to tutor John if you can, he helps to understand the material in different ways. This was a challenging class overall.
This is the worst professor at A&M. Her lectures are hard to follow and she does not understand how to teach the material in a way that students can understand. This was the hardest class I have ever taken at A&M.
Prof Guyton is the sweetest professor. I have loved being in her class since she always makes her material tie back into how we can use it in the "real world." This is a very difficult class, but if you put in the work and her self checks to study as hard as you study for tests for the quizzes you're golden. Great class.
honestly tutorjohn is the only way to get an A in this course. textbook was useless, quizzes were ok, and the exams are tricky. you can get away with not actually learning the material if you just memorize the questions she gives on the past exams (be aware that she changes them up just a little). overall sally shouldn't have a job
Professor Guyton is a great professor! Yes, lecture can be hard but, going to class and paying attention is ESSENTIAL! Don't listen to other students who stop going to class and go to Tutor John. Guyton is extremely helpful, you can always ask questions in class or office hours. I found the textbook and homework questions very helpful for studying.
3 ways to make an A;1) GO TO TUTOR JOHN; dont stress over her lectures, just go to the weekly and exam reviews 2) DO 4 PRACTICE EXAMS BEFORE EACH EXAM; she doesn't change up the math part of the test much so get lots of repetition/memorization 3) LEARN THE THEORY; this will be the difference in a B vs an A (John does a good job at explaining this)
Sally herself is very knowledgeable however, she cannot effectively teach to save her life. You could almost never show up to class, but then she'd probably ask you a question on the test like "where is my lake house lot located?" (you'll hear lots about this). Save your money now because you WILL need Tutor John
Worst prof I have ever had. She cannot teach to save her life.
Sally is very kind and incredibly intelligent. To do well, you have to get really good at all practice questions from old exams, and use the lecture guide for quizzes. Tutor John test reviews are helpful, but truly just get good at old exams. Also, don't get discouraged after test 1, tests 2 and 3 are a lot better if you study really hard.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. She is so very nice in class and a very very smart person. I really really wanted to like her but unfortunately she is so bad at teaching that going to tutoring is MANDATORY to receive a good grade. Not because the material is hard but she is so bad at explaining it. #tutorjohn
Guyton is very nice and extremely smart. She does not teach the material very effectively so you will have to basically just trial and error all of the practice exams in order to learn how to do the problems and then the exams are nearly identical. An A in this class is doable despite what some of these people say, but it will take some effort.
Guyton is a pretty good professor, but you should absolutely go to TutorJohn. There is just so much material/concepts that you need to remember. This was definitely my hardest class, and I had put so many hours into studying but was only able to get a C. Guyton herself tho, knows what she is talking abt and definitely passionate abt finance.
Understand the way the class is structured and you will understand the way to get a good grade. The way the overall grade is distributed makes it tough to get an A. If you put in the necessary work, you will get to understand the material, scoring As is a different story however, do practice tests over and over, and read the book.
Guyton really enjoys finance and is very knowledgeable in what she is teaching. You will either like this class because you have to or you will despise it. Lectures are extremely boring which is expected. Quizzes are taken on notebook paper so be prepared to not see your grade for a few weeks. Work the multiple practice exams to do well on tests.
Professor Guyton was a great professor and knew what she was talking about! She was very kind any time I contacted her out of class. Make sure to do the practice exams over and over again to help with the exams. Attending the lectures also makes a difference in your grade, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
The lectures were hard to understand because she goes so fast, but reading the textbook and doing all the homework helped A LOT. Pay attention to all the random facts she gives in class for the first exam. Do all the practices quizzes and exams, and you'll be sure to pass. For me, tutor John was not necessary if you just do the practice questions.
I have done well WITHOUT tutor john. She's fast in lectures, so focus on copying down the notes. After class, review the material to understand the process/calculations to make sense of it all. You only really need to do the self-check quizzes, and memorize how to solve the problems. If you study, go to helpdesk, and apply yourself, you can do well
shes nice as a person but her lectures are so hard to follow - I felt like I was just writing stuff down, tests and quizzes are hard, wish I had seen these reviews before and gone to tutor john
Her lectures are unorganized and don't make a lot of sense. I personally found the material boring and fast paced. Tests are all about memorizing past exam questions so STUDY EARLY! Quizzes aren't horrible, often just memorization. Be prepared for questions on current events and the history behind the concepts (ex. where the NASDAQ first opened).
She is a wonderful prof. Extremely knowledgable and caring. Such a genuine person. Highly recommend talking with her before or after class. Yeah, the class is hard but not impossible. I'm a math person so maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Hard work=Good Grade. The exams are exactly like the practice. Anything discussed is fair game on the exam.
If you work with the past exams that she offers then you are set. I don't believe she was the most helpful in class, her lectures so alright. It was actually most of the time the TAs and SI students that helped me a ton. However, this class runs on a straightforward formula and if you figure it out you'll be good.
Although I am getting an A in this class, I am not sure it is worth the money and time I spent on this course. Outside tutoring is mandatory to receive a good grade. Do the practice tests and go to tutor john and you will be fine.
She is a much better professor than what other people give her. Yes, the class can be challenging but you have 4 practice (past) exams given for each test and a TA works through one of them a couple days before. You DONT need to go to Tutor John to get a good grade, there are free SI sessions, help desks, and practice quizzes and tests to use.
For how difficult this class was, she did a good job of teaching it.only reason why I didn't get the grade I want was because I didn't study right. GO TO THE LECTURES, DO THE PRACTICE PROBLEMS, GO TO THE HELP DESK AND THE SI SESSIONS. If you're able to utilize these resources effectively, you can definitely get a better grade than I did!
Sally is a sweetheart, and she is truly passionate about finance. However, she fails to understand the demographic of her class and their majors (not everyone else is passionate). This class is hard, so be prepared to study... but she offers many resources to practice and know what she expects of you. I had to go to TutorJohn to save my grade.
Very smart professor but does not know how to teach. Exams are like the practice exams. You do not need tutor john to pass this class!! Just make sure to go to the help desk to understand the material and practice until you have it down. The class consists of 3 exams, 1 final and 12 quizzes. Overall, not a hard class if you put in the work.
This professor honestly only taught me the basics. I went to every class but had to do a LOT of work outside of class. The math on the tests is not super hard but they are very theory heavy which makes it difficult. I did not go to Tutor John like everyone else did but if you want to do well you need to stay caught up on the material and study.
My grade had nothing to do with the lecturer. I only went to class when there was quiz. Because I had no idea what she was talking about, went to her class was waste of time. Her purpose in the class seemed to be to make us take notes and not to give us time to think at all. Many people have also mentioned that her teaching methods are poor.
Sally was kind but fails to understand who exactly she is teaching this class to. By that I mean, the lectures are very hard to follow if you aren't already proficient in this field. TutorJohn saved my grade but even with that, I struggled greatly.
She does not know how to teach and going to her class leaves me feeling overwhelmed and irritated. She speeds through taking notes and does not give time for you to learn or process the information. She expects you to have lots of previous knowledge that makes her lectures extremely difficult for a basic finance class.
If you have another option, take it. She is not a good professor at all. She is very caring but horrible at teaching. She thinks we are finance professionals and does not dumb it down at all for students. Only exams and quizzes. People said go to Tutor John and don't even go to class unless there is a quiz.
Guyton was the only professor I could get this class in. As long as you basically memorize the exams and how to do them you will be ok. Honestly her lectures are quite hard to sit through and they're not mandatory but it helps you understand how to do the exam problems. Just go to tutor john.
Through a lot of external studying I was able to get a B in the class. The tests are weighted a lot, and the practice exams she tells you to get basically mirror the exams. The lecture seemed to assume you knew a bit more than basic finance, which was frustrating as a person trying to initially understand the field.
Had to go to Tutor John all semester long to receive the grade that I did. Quizzes almost every week and she does not make any sense in class because she talks extremely fast and covers a lot. If you put in the work, go to Tutor John and do practice tests, you will do fine.
Not as bad as everyone makes it out to be, you just need to devote many hours to study. Go to help desk, do the practice quizzes after each unit, and constantly be studying what you learn in class. The quizzes help keep you accountable for this. Do as many practice exams as possible, and you will do well on tests. Exam 1 will take the most studying
Class isn't as bad as everyone says. You don't have to go to Tutor John, just study the past exams carefully and the test basically mirrors that. Prepare for the quizzes by studying for what she says in class. Guyton is funny and knowledgeable, but not the best at lecturing the material. This class requires diligent effort to succeed.
if you think this class is hard, you need to reassess being a student in mays.
Very smart and kind, but an ineffective lecturer. Working every practice exam is the best way to study for exams. Exam I is hardest (theory heavy), rest of exams are more math based. Mean exam scores: I:72.5, II:85.6, III:81.6, IV:79.9. Self-Check Quizzes are similar to quizzes. Got a B without TutorJohn, but studied for exams 3-4 days in advance.
The previous exams are your lord and savior in this class. If nothing else, memorize how to work the questions from those exams and you should do well. I managed to do ok without Tutor John but I had to attend nearly every SI session to see how problems were worked. The first exam is theory heavy, so be prepared to memorize. Next 3 are math heavy.
Tutor John taught me everything. I learned nothing from Professor Guyton. This class is literally pay-to-win.
For the first three exams, practice with the old exams more than twice, and you'll be on solid ground. I recommend going to John for the final because there is a lot to cover, and he will help you pinpoint what you should focus on. If you play the stock market or are curious about finance, this class is so helpful for life, not just for school
At first, I didn't like Guyton because the class was very fast-paced at the beginning, but she knew what she was talking about and would update the class on real-world finance situations. Overall, if this is your first FINC class it will be hard in the beginning but use the past exams to study!! They are super beneficial and will help a lot!
Here's how to do well in this class: go to class (won't learn much cause she doesn't teach well imo), master what will be on the quizzes (teach yourself), go to TutorJohn for exam reviews and practice as many tests as possible. I don't like her teaching method at all, but the practice tests set you up well to get an A if you know how to do it.
Literally just go to TutorJohn! Over 400 of her students go to TutorJohn every semester, he will teach you everything you need to know. She has no idea how to teach the material she "teaches" like you already know how to do it. You won't pass without going to TutorJohn. I skipped all her lectures and only showed up for quizzes, she confuses you.
Quizzes with 2-3 questions over a couple things in the entire chapter and you never know what is going to be on it. The way she taught was like reviewing, she lectured like you already knew the material. I paid for a tutor the entire semester to get by. I was more confused walking out of her lectures, she always said, "you should know this by now."
Had to use Tutor John the entire semester to get by. Her quizzes are unclear and no feedback is given. Every lecture is pretty confusing and lacks practice - just a lot of rambling and nonsense. She is very smart, but that is her downfall because she can't teach. The tests can be pretty tough, so study well in advance.
Prof Guyton goes through material SO FAST, talks like a machine gun, and her handwriting is hard to understand. If you're taking 341 go to Tutor John from the beginning or at least do the homework. She knows her stuff but makes things unnecessarily difficult sometimes. Study as soon as you cover the material, and do not get behind
She is very old fashioned and wants you to do things her way or the highway, even if another way is easier. She tries to throw curve balls at you on the exams that haven't been on there in years, so I did poorly on the one and decided to start going to the local tutor for the rest. She seems like a decent person but she is not a good teacher.
The class may seem overwhelming if you show up to lecture with no preparation and if you're not commited to paying attention. Read a little before class and make sure you pay attention, it can save you hours per week of teaching yourself everything. You go to mays, you can make it without tutor john.
The material for this class was interesting however the exams were incredibly hard to prepare for. I would highly recommend tutor john because he has 30 semesters worth of practice exams and his reviews also explained theory very well. Sally is very knowledgeable but she was not a good teacher by any means. First exam is super theory heavy btw
Professor Guyton is a great prof! She makes understanding finance easy. Her grading structure is also forgiving so you have room to make mistakes on exams. In-class quizzes are free 100s if you do the suggested hws beforehand. The exams are also easy (copy-paste format). Lots of people go to tutor John but you dont really need to.
She's a very nice lady. She sadly does not communicate the material clearly and moves fast. I personally went to tutor john for the test reviews and don't know what I would've done without him. Tutor john taught me what I was actually learning and how to do well on her test. I went to class to get the notes, but never learned anything in class.
This is a hard class in general. Ms. Guyton is a nice person but doesn't explain material in a way that is easily understood. She is inconsistent in the way she teaches concepts. If you go to Tutor John you will be fine!!! He is a lifesaver!! He teaches you everything you need to know - as long as you're willing to put in the work, 341 is doable.
Everything to know to get an A: 1) Class is very fair. If you do all 6 practice exams per exam provided, attend EVERY class/take notes, you'll get an A easily. Got 76 and 80 on first 2 exams, then did the all practice exams and got 96 and 92 on the last 2 exams. 2) YOU DO NOT NEED TUTOR JOHN 3) TEXTBOOK IS A WASTE OF TIME 4) FIND THE CLASS SI ASAP!
Prof Guyton covers a lot of material quickly, so staying on top of it is key. Tutor John's practice exams and review sessions were a lifesaver - highly recommend using Unstuck AI alongside them to further prep. Just go to class, do the work, and you can do well.
Ms. Guyton is very nice and caring, but moves very fast. To get an A I recommend (1) Review the lecture notes, (2) Do the self-check quizzes and practice problems for every chapter, (3) practice exams. This class is very doable as long as you apply yourself; you most likely don't need textbook
I respect Ms. Guyton as a person, but understand that this class is designed as if the year is 1950. You're given a massive notes packet (200+ pages) and have to fill it out as she rushes through lectures. You have to learn all the material on your own to understand what she's saying in lectures, and everything about this class feels outdated.
Guyton is a good professor that provides every resource you could possibly need to succeed. She's passionate about her class. Weekly quizzes that are pretty easy if you study worth 20% with 5 lowest dropped. Exams are not a time crunch. You need the TI-84 calculator though. Annoying required expensive textbook, but that's my only real complaint.
She speaks and operates in slow motion, and tends to over-explain and complicate simple concepts. Class is boring and often drawn out, but she does have interesting opinions on current events. Overall the class is easy, especially if you study old exams and do the practice problems she provides.
This class is structured very well. The weekly quizzes help prepare for the class. If you take the practice exams and do the practice problems at the back of each chapter in the ILG, you will get a good score on the exams. She is very clear in her expectations for students and makes getting an A very doable.
For someone who doesn't know how to study and is kinda lazy this class was hard. For quizzes, just study self check. BUY THE PAST EXAM PRACTICE. If you study each one and know how to do all the problems you should be able to get above a 75 on each exam. Theory questions were my downfall. I went to the help desk and got a 72, 68, 96, 72 on exams.
Guyton is the best professor I've had at A&M so far. The exams under her are very math-dens with some theory. If you do the practice exams and self-check quizzes that she provides, and use your notes where needed, you'll make every mistake but learn. First and final exam are hardest. You can tell she cares about her students and their futures.
Guyton is fair, she knows her stuff, even though I would say that it was hard to understand her because she treats you like you already know this stuff and just revising. Exams wise, do practice exams, just master them and you will do good, 13 quizzes, 5 of which drop, so 8 best.
Her lectures aren't the best. She explains things as if her students already know the material she's covering, and a lot of the time it's confusing or hard to follow. There's a quiz for each chapter, but she drops the lowest three or four. Exams are tough, DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS. I would also highly recommend going to ATM tutoring, Chris is great.
Lectures can be long as sometimes she expects us to know what she covers before we go over it in class. Exams are difficult, but do the practice exams and anything she provides. The help desk and SI lessons were really helpful to understand the material.
As a MKTG major who scraped an A in this class, it is definitely doable! (I did NOT use any outside help) Guyton's lectures are slow and kind of dry, but she does an okay job explaining the material and gives good written examples to later review on your own. But you MUST PRACTICE! Use the exam packet and go over all lecture notes before EACH exam!
Quizzes are all planned, but make sure to show up or it is an automatic zero! Boring lectures but a sweet woman. Outside tutoring definitely helped the information sink in and solidify in my brain.
The class itself is not that hard but the professor makes it so much harder. She explains new concepts to you as if you already learned them, even though this is the first finance class you take. Prepare to do a lot of work outside of class as she does not explain concepts very well.
Nice lady but awful at teaching anything relevant in class besides the latest news on CNBC. Examples you see in the lecture guide are not conducive to learning what is on the test. Having someone else teach it whether it be an outside tutor or youtube is a must. It's time to retire.
This class is hard, lectures feel like we should already know majority of what she is talking about even though it is an intro class. PLS DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS, I made the mistake not to on my first exam and could not catch up even though I did very well on the last exams. USE TUTOR CHRIS. Guyton is a great lady, class is just supposed to be hard:/
Ms. Guyton is a great professor! She has great insights on the market, and she loves talking to students after class. Yes her class takes a lot of work, but it is not as hard as everyone claims it to be. Tutor Chris is helpful but not necessary. Just do 3-4 practice exams before every exam and you'll be fine. Also, 4 quizzes drop so that's nice.
This class is difficult, but as long as you study and make sure to attend lectures you will be good. LOTS OF QUIZZES so be prepared for a minimum of one a week. I used Old Army Tutoring and they helped tremendously. They have reviews posted on their website and instagram so be sure to keep an eye out for when they post it.
This class is NOT easy. I have never studied so much in my life. With that being said, Ms. Guyton is a very nice person, and you can tell that she genuinely loves what she does. However, you will have to devote a lot of time to studying outside of class. When studying for exams, prioritize the practice tests over everything else!
Hardest CBK class by far. Best way to pass this class is studying the old practice exams she posts. Tutor John helped out a lot. She takes the top 8 out of 12 quizzes. The first exam and final were the hardest. First exam was all theory, second and third was easy, but the final was something else. It's not as bad as everyone makes it seems.
Prof. Guyton is very knowledgable and wants you to do well. The exams and quizzes can become very difficult if you do not put in the work. If you put in the work outside of class, an B or even A is very attainable. I recommend finding a tutor and reworking the notes with the videos provided. Also, understanding theory is very important.
Extremely intelligent woman who really knows her subject. First few classes can be tough because she doesn't explain a whole lot, but you'll catch on. Provides tons of exams from past years for practice, and actual exams are just like those. If you study your notes religiously and do all the practice exams, you'll be fine.
She is really knowledgeable and intelligent. Her class is really straightforward and exams are not as hard like the rumors. Getting an A in this class is really doable. Only those who did not study will get C and D. Her exams are really not tricky. Just practice and make sure you understand the content.
It's not a hard class. All the old exams are the same as the ones she gives, so do them. I would look at old theory problems because she reuses them. Use tutor Chris, hes very helpful; he gives out so many old exams. Quizzes are easy. I didn't study much for the final and it wasn't bad at all. If you know what you're doing it's an easy A.
FINC 341 is a pretty heavy class, but it's not too difficult. The lectures were posted online, so attendance was not necessary, but there were a lot of in-class quizzes. The only way to do well on the exams is by taking practice exams.
This class can get confusing quick because it moves very fast with a lot of material covered (I knew nothing about finance prior). However, she is passionate about what she teaches and wants to help her students. I used ATM Tutoring and it helped me immensely. Do practice exams to study for the tests. An A is achievable if you put the work in.
Tests are difficult and a huge part of ur grade. Luckily she provides past exams, so do those and master them and you should do fine. She moves really fast in lectures and does not teach the topics the best. Prepare to do a lot of studying and learning outside of class. She does say when all the quizzes will be, and she is sweet!
Do the practice exams before every test! They are the most helpful resource. She goes fast in lecture and jumps around a lot, making it difficult to learn in class. Quizzes are in class and can make a big difference so study for them! She is really nice but you will have to learn most on your own. Office hours are too crowded to be helpful.
The exams are identical to the practice exams, use them. Lectures are boring but must attend class for the quizzes she gives after each chapter. Don't blow off the quizzes they can help your grade a ton. Very nice and caring professor. Somewhat difficult class but an A is very attainable. No homework.
Not much to say about this class because Prof Guyon is your only option. It is a very difficult class to pass especially if you have trouble listening to monotone math talk for an hour and 20 minutes. She is very smart and knows what she is talking about the biggest issue is keeping up.
The exams are identical to the practice exams but I would still try to make sure you understand the content. If you can get someone's exams from the previous semester that will help you a lot. Take the quizzes seriously but if you put in effort its not that bad
Best Prof I have had at A&M. She teaches a hard class but truly wants you to succeed.
she has been teaching this class forever and it shows. you have to show up or else you're gonna be lost. quizzes like 1x week they are not bad tbh they help you see if yk what shes on about. exams do not get curved but they are like the practice ones so just do them. you cant really get out of taking her so just put in the effort and it'll be okay
My fav professor ever! Class gets a bad rep. but if you put in effort, you will be fine! She tends to rush through lectures bc of time but watching her recorded videos are a game changer if you want to do well. Practice exams are almost identical to real ones. Final was a bit hard so try your best on the first 3 exams. Overall, loved Prof. Guyton!
Ms. Guyton is a very sweet person but has been teaching so long that she no longer knows what it's like to not understand the material. She basically reads through the lecture guide (basically fillable notes) then does practice problems. There's absolutely 0 explanation on how anything works, you must just force your way through practice problems.
If you think at all that you could get an A in this class I would take it online. For in person there are quizzes every week which are difficult enough that it isn't a guaranteed boost to your average. Her lectures are pretty bad and you'll probably end up watching the video notes either way.
Liberal and tests you on propaganda.
Sally Guyton is a great professor. Her lectures are a little hard to follow but she has video lectures posted to her google drive and those are very helpful. Quizzes every week are helpful in preparation for the exams. Practice exams are almost identical to the actual exams so if you do those you are guaranteed a good grade. Overall, great prof
This is a challenging class, but between the typos on the tests and the "tricky" questions, the class is harder than it needs to be. Go to the test reviews that are held by the TAs, they will explain things in a much more relatable way. Read the chapter and do the practice problems...then run the practice tests like a crazy person and you'll do ok.
I think Professor Guyton did an excellent job at teaching this course. I was expecting it to be a lor harder than it was, and I was pleasantly surprised. As long as you prepare for tests and stay on top of material there is no reason why you shouldn't earn a good grade in this class.
She's sweet, and very smart, but if you're not naturally logical tbh just cross your fingers and pray. Weekly quizzes were stressful (but not very hard). I don't know how I would've survived without tutor chris. Good luck tbh you have to take it. I would definitely recommend taking it in person opposed to the new online class.
Prof Guyton is a very sweet person. However, I learned NOTHING in class and used Tutor Chris for pretty much every exam. This class wasn't as hard as I thought, but I've also never studied this much in my life. Also, don't slack off on the quizzes, if I tried on them I probably could've ended with an A as the averages are weighted the same as tests.
Doable class if you're able to learn the material on your own (textbook or otherwise); lectures relatively unhelpful. Tests are the exact same formatting year after year, so if you do well on the sample exams you're fine for the tests. Generally just do what you're supposed to and take time to do the textbook homework and self-check quizzes.
TUTOR CHRIS @ ATM IS A LIFESAVER! Guyton is so horrible. She has 0 remorse and does not care one bit about the students. She purposely changes her exams based off of Chris's exam reviews so that students will fail. If you can, take this class over the summer with a different prof if you dont want your gpa to dramatically drop.
Guyton is very kind and cares about her students, she even let me move my final just so I could have more time to study. That being said, I don't find her lectures very helpful, but her videos she posts are better! Her exams are fair to the content and if you do all of the practice exams and understand those you'll be fine.
Easiest CBK. Exams are the same as practice exams with different wording. Quizzes are the same as practice quizzes with different wording. Fill out notes packet and do the practice.
Her lectures get mundane/monotonous. I'd watch the videos before-hand/after to follow. Theory matters so KNOW the material. Know how to do the lecture book/self-check quiz/previous exam problems. Set yourself up early for success early on because the final was difficult, and it can be hard to come back. STUDY for in-person quizzes, it can save you.
While very sweet, Professor Guyton is not a good teacher (in my opinion). It's like she's been teaching for so long that she forgets finance is new to us and just does problems without really explaining any of the thought behind it. Overall the class has few grades so if you get a bad grade on the tests you're kind of screwed.
Do all of the practice exams!!! Exams 1 and 3 were the easiest, and the final is all the basic questions from all of the chapters.
Do not take the online section. The online class is made up of 100% tests, while the in-person section is 80% tests and 20% quizzes. The quizzes are very doable. She also has videos for all the lessons, which is really nice because she goes very fast in class. Personally, I would only go to class on quiz days.
This class is difficult if you're not familiar with finance, but it's very possible for anyone to get an A in this class. I took the new online section, which I don't recommend as it's made up of 100% exam grades. Use Tutor Chris and do at least 5 practice exams prior to each test, don't put off studying until the last minute or you will do bad.
