She wasn't very helpful at the beginning, but she just came back to teaching. She ended up being a really great teacher, but a lot of notes. Comparing her to the other professors I've heard about, she's got to be the best!
This theacher is kind of easy. Lots of notes

Great teacher. Always would help whenever asked and would go out of her way to make sure you do well. Make sure you read the chapters!! Tests are totally based off the book, the notes are there just to guide what you read. Read and you'll do good.

She is very helpful... lot's of notes and reading. But very nice.
She's a great professor!
She is a good teacher
good teacher not too hard but don't expect high class average in class hope for a C. But is willing to help you and is personable
If you have to take bio, take harmych!!
Wow, I dont understand why she is so popular on here. I might like Grey a little better. At the end of the year all the notes are pictures with no words in Harmych. She tells the worst jokes and only lame freshman think they are funny. PS. I did well in her class (B+) but I studied very hard.
The material was interesting. I think she could've gotten into a little more though, but that's hard in a class with 300+ people.
she was a great prof, very straight forward about what she wants and is always willing to help. i really enjoyed this class
Hard class but great teacher.

all her exams are frm her notes...if u have to take bio1 take with her... shes better thn other profs.
She is not a bad teacher but you will have to do a lot of learning on your own. She expects detailed knowledge of things she only briefly touches on in class. You have to read every chapter thoroughly and remember that pretty much anything is fair game.
Still a really difficult class, I think. I'm not doing so well in it, even though I try. But Harmych does a pretty good job in lecture and providing helpful notes.
Very difficult class, basically you have to memorize the text book!!! You're supposed to remember everything!
If you are student that does not enjoy reading then I would not recommend this professor. She is very monotone and talks really fast so its hard to stay focus in class. I would recommend that you have some kind of background in biology before taking this class if you dont then you are likely to fail.
Harmych is probably the best professor I've ever had. She is very concise when lecturing and she makes the material interesting, providing examples to relate what is being taught to realistic situations. Study hard and you'll find that the exams aren't so bad after all. The class is not really an "easy A," but you will learn a lot.
She lectures A LOT and provides a lot of notes. Majority of exams are not even on the notes provided so a lot of studying is needed on your part. She is very nice but moves quickly in class and it can get boring. But she lost some weight and looks good ;-)
take notes
A lot of people here have been complaining that her lectures aren't helpful and that you have to rely entirely on the book, but I don't think that's true. I haven't cracked the book open since the beginning of semester and I've gotten As on all the tests. Just make sure you take good notes during lecture. She does tend to go too fast, though.
She's a really good prof. the class is still very challenging, lots of notes, she is always open to talk to during office hours and is very helpful, she knows her stuff, never has to open a book. Study and make sure you go to class, maybe even the SI sessions, you should be okay. DO NOT TAKE HER IN THE MORNING, lots of lecturing = sleeping
I took this class last spring, and I enjoyed it MOST of the time. She really does know her stuff, and she does an excellent job explaining very difficult processes (oxidative phosphorylation, what??) Very good professor.
She expects you to fully understand the material that she gives you. She really makes you earn your grade. SI sessions are essential for a good grade!
Was extremely helpful if you sought help. Tests aren't impossible if you actually STUDY and DON'T BE LAZY. I got an A in the class and studied my butt off... if you don't study, don't expect a good grade.Class pace is fast and completely note-oriented, but she is always working on making sure students get all the information

If you can get in her class GET IN HER CLASS. She doesn't try to trick you on exams. Everything she goes over in class is ON THE EXAM, you just have to be awake to catch it all. She's really intellegent and knows her stuff. She's possibly the best professor you can bet for Bio 2150.
Dr. Harmych is an amazing professor. She is extremely intelligent, is easy to listen to, and keeps the class interesting. The tests are hard, but if you study and understand the material you'll do well. Hard class but Harmych teaches it well.
I liked this class a lot, it was a little difficult but if you stayed on top of the material your fine. Her outline questions are key. Good teacher
Very Easy Class -- Go to every lecture, study for maybe an hour for each test (more if you need it) -- all of the info on her tests is gone over in class, ABSOLUTELY no need to read the bio book although some of the questions in the accompanying study guide book seem to appear in some form on her tests.
No doubt she's a tough teacher. You have to attend her classes otherwise you will get lost. Study hard because she gives you a lot of information and expects you to know ALL OF IT. Only about 50 ?'s on her test. Currently have a high B in the class even though I studied very hard.
VERY nice professor. Should always be present in class, missing a lecture will get you behind. Material is fairly easy. Exams are hard and can be tricky, so neeed to study for them! Overall i got a B, not too bad.

I am an A student who got a C+ in her class. I attended class daily and took notes but did not study nearly enough as her tests are more than a matter of common sense- even her "easy" final. If you are not interested in biology at all like I wasn't, I would suggest trying to find an easier teacher.
This class sucks. If you are fufilling a natural science requirement do not take this class. It is hard as hell. The test questions come out of no where. I've never struggled so much in my life. I'm an A student who may not pass.

Has a very pleasant voice, like angels playing a harp on a glistening meadow.
Has a very pleasant voice - like angels playing a harp on a glistening meadow.
Very nice teacher. You do need to attend lecture and pay attention, there is a lot of material in this course, but she does an amazing job of explaining it and her notes are really good (most test questions come from her notes). Studying hard is key, but office hours and SI helps! Also you get to drop one exam! Would Recommend her to anyone!
She is great teacher. Willing to take the extra time to explain things. Makes the class interesting and doesn't go too fast when it comes to notes. Test are hard so you do need to know your stuff.
She makes the class fun and interesting to keep you awake at 8am in the morning. I memorized all of her notes and still only managed to get high C+ on her tests....so know your stuff because it is a lot of material and what she says anytime could be on the test. I got a B but studied forever. Best bio teacher on campus though...
Best biology teacher on campus, but that does not make the class easy. she goes through her notes kind of quickly and i felt i was writing the whole class straight. lots of studying involved but take her if you have to take a bio class.
Nice lady who seemed like she should be driving kids to soccer practice instead of teaching biology but she knew her stuff. As a psych major who took her course I found the material fairly difficult. Attended every class but didn't read/study much and got a C+ that should've been rounded up to a B-. Wouldnt recommend her to non science majors
Dr. Harmych was very good at explaining all of the topics we learned in this class. She was a very animated lecturer and kept you interested in some of the boring topics we learned about. She went over difficult processes and cycles we learned multiple times. Her exams were not difficult if you put time in studying. It wasn't an easy A but an A.
She was a really good teacher! she is a good lecturer, and makes boring material seem more interesting than most teachers would. her tests were straight foreword for the most part (i usually got between an 80-95) most of the test comes form the lecture. i never read the book. overall really good class to take!
Very enthusiastic, helpful, and knowledgeable about biology. Exams are not impossible, but do require studying for.
Overall good teacher. You will learn a lot! Very interesting to listen to and talk to!
I have never earned anything less than an A in a college setting before but after it... would never take another class with her. She is rude and yells a lot. Her exams are very hard.
Really did not like this professor. She is knowledgeable, but she is also very full of herself. Goes through notes quickly so I wouldn't recommend missing class. Maybe if I didn't have her at 8am everyday I'd like her more...
Decent professor. She goes through the notes very fast.
I love Harmych! She was my orientation professor as well so I got to know her a little better. She's a VERY good teacher and knows her stuff but her exams are hard and need lots of studying, but you WILL learn. Got Cs on all of them and ended up with a B for the semester because I went to every class and did the clickers and all the homework.
as a pharmacy student with 3.73 gpa dr. harmych makes simple material 100x harder - i had brenda leady for biol 2150 last semester and thought leady's exams were MUCH easier. i would definitely not recommend taking her for a pharmacy or medicine pre-requisite biology course.
this professor is great. She cares about her students and about helping them learn. BUT her tests are ridiculously hard! She wants to challenge every student not let them get off the hook. Dont take this class if you are looking for an easy A.
Very good teacher! Although she does go fast and tests are VERY difficult, she makes the class a challenge and makes sure that her students learn. Not an easy A, you will have to work hard. But the class is rewarding.
OMG jesus could she make this class any harder?! I had Dr. Das last semester and barely went to class and got straight as on all the test. Questions on sallys tests arent even in the notes and barely mentioned in the book, its like whatever she feels like putting on the test she'll do it, without teaching it.
I was a Pre-Vet Major and took her Bio 1 class my first semester. Her tests were ridiculous and about 85% of my class of 300+ failed every one. She "highly recommended" we bought the text book so I did (it cost me over $150) and then I never needed it and couldn't sell it back. If she liked you, she was VERY helpful if not good luck!
She is a good teacher, knows her stuff. But She goes over the note very quickly I hardly have time to write them down. Exams are really difficult and the review sheets are just don't help, but the final is not that hard. If you go to every class and do the homework, clicker questions. It is not that hard to get at least a B.
She explains everything well but puts a lot of information into each exam and the exams are almost impossible to get a good grade on. I would not recommend taking her class as a freshman.
Nice lady, but hardest teacher I have ever had. I wouldn't recommend taking her, unless you want to be so stressed out that you cry. Her test are impossible, no matter what you study or how much you look over it, it's basically just a lost cause. All of the notes she gives out almost always have nothing to do with the test. Terrible.
ok prof. drops lowest exam. gives homework online to keep grades up. clicker points everyday so you must be in class. shes helpful if you ask questions or go to office hours. tests are really hard. she forgets to put up notes on time and goes through notes really fast. make sure you read the chapters in the book, its a big help.
Hard tests, way to much study material to even look over, but wasn't that bad of a professor...
Sally is an awesome lady! I loved going to her office hours because she was so helpful. Went to her office three times and she already knew my name... in a class of 350 students. Tests are extrememly hard though. Prepare to study your butt off.
Excellent teacher with superb clarity in the lectures. I fell asleep multiple times in her class and ended up with a 97.
Good professor, simple to get a B, took a little studying for the A. Attend class for clicker points. Not sure if book is helpful at all
S/O to prof. Harmych! She is the best teacher I've had yet. I made sure to have her for my first two Bio classes. Her class isn't one of the classes you can just show up to the exams for. If you want to pass you need to study , but she is beyond helpful!
Hardest class I've taken so far. Her test are hard and I try my best but I still do bad on them.
It amazes me how awful this class was. I will give it to her, she knows her stuff but she is so smart she confuses the students. Her test, notes, lectures, and the book have NOTHING in common. I would not recommend her for anyone unless they are a complete biology information sponge.
Very nice teacher and extremely smart, but she is hard. You'll get everything in class and feel comfortable, but the tests are just something else. If you enjoy extremely hard tests and studying and memorizing bio, take her. Otherwise idk.... Really nice person though.
Material is relatively clear, although there is too much and I was constantly typing in class. Exams are hard, but she's nice and will help if you need it. Sometimes gets mad over the slightest things in lecture. If you could get a different professor I'd recommend it.
Tests are next to impossible. Questions are designed to trick you. Very light homework load. Make sure to attend class if you even want a chance for a decent grade
Tough teacher. You must read the book even though she does not require it. Lecture notes and book go hand in hand. Must put in a lot of work with studying. If you just show up and study a week before the test it will not cut it. Very helpful professor but forces you to think and apply the info differently on tests compared to many other professors.
Horrible professor. She just reads the powerpoints which are fill in the blanks and don't contain enough information. Ask her something she will look at you like you're stupid god forbid you take a couple minutes off your time and actually teach. I'm going above and beyond learning the powerpoints and reading the book and I'll be happy if I get a b
she is an okay teacher, she talks a lot and challenges students to see if they are following along in her lectures. Keep track of the test dates because they were not evenly distributed.
She is a horrible professor to take biology with. because of her I hate biology with passion. She teaches something in class and don't know where he picks questions for exams. No matter where I studied from I never got good grade. With another professor I'm ace-ing the same class. Don't take her.
Was by far one of the best professors I have ever had. She explained things well and really cared that her student did well. Exams were hard, but certainly not impossible. But like every class, it just requires studying. Never got less that an 86 on an exam. Very fair and helpful. If you enjoy bio, take her! She's awesome.
She is a horrible professor. She reused a lot of questions every year. If you don't get a past exam, you won't get an "A".
She was a wonderful professor! Very clear and easy to follow and super helpful. I got an A on all of her exams! Definitely some hours studying but well worth it!
Very good prof. Her class can be a bit hard (it's college) but she is super helpful and really nice!
Great professor ! i wish all my professors were like her, she reads her power points with helpful pictures, explains it, in class even asks if we understand and if we dont she re-explains the lesson. you do have to fill in the blanks, but i mean its college. who cares. exams are tough, but again its college. I DEFF RECOMMEND HER!!!!
I definitely recommend her. If you care about your education and pay attention you'll be fine. She gives you power points with some fill in the blanks. She constantly asks if the material is being understood, if not, she answers any questions. Tests are detailed, but she posts a review sheet with questions outlining what you should know.
She explains the material fairly well but the exams are covered really in depth. Expect to study roughly 15 hours or more for each exam! Overall, good teacher, just more difficult.
Do not take this class with Dr. Harymch. The exams are very difficult and only out of 50 points so its hard to achieve a high grade and are on things we never went over in class. The lectures are pointless to go to but she gives clicker points. She doesn't answer questions well if at all. You only need the book to learn anything from this class.
Her exams are all written. She grades harsh. She also grades your papers worse than your English professor even though she teaches Bio. I recommend not taking her unless you want to make her class your priority over the others. She also has no sympathy for students. This class requires 15+ hours for each exam.
I did not like Biology nearly as much as Chemistry going into college. Her class was difficult and she will make you work for the A, but if you take the time to read the chapters before the lecture, the class is reasonable. But if you try to cram in this class, you will have no shot at an A.I now have a new-found appreciation for Bio. Take Harmych!
Dr. Harmych is very good at teaching. She basically goes over everything that is necessary to know on the tests. If you get to know her...like visit her during office hours..and you miss an online homework assignment, she will extend the deadline! Although she can get snappy it is often bc students are just rude. Her tests are on the bigger topics!
Dr. Harmych is a fantastic professor! Her tests are somewhat tough, but I read through my notes every day, and did very well. Her final is also definition based, so it's easier than the other exams. She has a passion for her job, which makes her great at it. If she taught 2170, I would take her again, but unfortunately she does not. :(
Her tests were hard for me. The class was good. She talked way too fast for me to get the information down.
Best Bio 1 and 2 teacher. Her tests are hard, but she alwasy grades fairly and curves the questions a lot of people miss. Having her tests be hard means you'll definitely learnt he material and remember it. Sefinitely take her.
She is a good teacher when it comes to lectures. She explains things well. Her tests can be very difficult but she grades fairly and they are curved to help students out.
She is clear and tells you what she wants; however, you will need to apply yourself to get a good grade.
She is a really awesome teacher and I wish I could take another class with her, even though I don't like biology. She was very helpful and is very patient and good at explaining things. The class would of been way harder without her insight. She provides all the materials necessary to get a good grade.
Impossible to pass!
The material of her class was difficult, and so were her exams. However, she made an honest effort to explain everything and was helpful in office hours. You'll get what you put into this class.
Very good professor. Very clear, good at breaking down concepts, delivers interesting lectures. Her tests are moderately difficult, but an A can be achieved easily with run of the mill techniques. (Review notes after lecture, read chapters before class, do practice questions on learning curve, etc.) No curve, but drops lowest exam score. 55.
Dr. Harmych prides herself on being tough; it IS a weeder class afterall. She offers no extra credit, and tests on your understanding of the material, not your memorization. Expect to see questions on the test that you haven't studied for. Lecture notes are provided, but incomplete. That said, she is fair, and always willing to explain things.
Very boring and very though read all material before class
She's good lecturing and she tries to keep everyone engaged. Tests cover applied knowledge, not memorization. Study the learning curve questions online and write down the clicker questions to study for the tests.
class was hard and long especially at 8 am four day s a week.
She is an excellent teacher for lecture. Although her tests are somewhat difficult, she is way ahead of schedule, but explains the material well. I would definitely recommend taking another class with her.
Dr. Harmych is a wonderful professor. I took Bio2160 with her and loved it. Her lectures are very helpful and she adds a lot of detail to her powepoints that isn't on there. Her exams are very fair. If you read the book, do the prefecture quizzes, and go to class an A is obtainable. She was always willing to help during office hours too!
Dr. Harmych is a very pleasant descent teacher. She's always available if you need her. Her lectures are not really helpful if you want to get above C on an exam but if you use outside sources then you can definitely earn an A. She made the class fairly interesting and I would take her again
Very hard. Makes a lot of jokes. Never replied to any of my emails.
it's not too bad if you study your notes for a half hour after each lecture and thoroughly read the textbook a couple days before exams. Dr. H was actually one of my favorite teachers, and is very friendly and funny.
Good teacher, test are tough but she curves fairly. Be ready to read the book because that is how you are going to pass, yes her lectures do help but you have to actually read and understand the book to be able to pass the tests. Final is pretty easy very definition based.
Dr. Harmych was a great professor for BIOL2150. She was fair on the tests, and wasn't ridiculously difficult or unfair. She was also really enthusiastic about helping me with my Honor's Contract, and met with me outside class to help write it. Definitely take her for BIOL2150!
She's a pretty good professor. She might seem irritated during lecture but once you talk to her in person and visit her during office hours, she's a really nice person... Be prepared to read a lot and try not to fall asleep during lecture. You'll miss a lot of important information (although she now records her lectures so you can refer to them)
Dr. Harmych is genuinely a great professor... Probably the best I've had this whole semester. Her tests are very difficult and she makes you work hard for your grade, but by the end of the day you end up learning so much. She doesn't put up with rude behavior though and she calls you out on it all the time. Other than that, she's very sweet.
She is an extremely good teacher. The material that she is required to teach is somewhat boring, but she attempted to make the course interesting and helpful. Exams were not that hard if you did the LaunchPad questions and the online quizzes. Most of the exam questions come from the online quizzes. I would highly recommend this professor to anyone.
Dr. Harmych is a very Great Professor. As long as you take notes, review your notes, skim through the book, and DO LEARNING CURVE activities, you will pass the class
Suggestions: sitting in front, attend class, go to SI sessions, understand the foundation of the material
You definitely need to attend class for the lecture and for clicker points. As a teacher she is average. Speaks fluent English with no accent. Ask as many questions as you would like. Tests are hard but she gives review sheets. Overall the class wasn't awful I finished with a B+.
Harmych is a great personprofessor. She has clear lectures, though they are full with info. Exams are difficult, but study before and you will be fine. Only got an A because I went to her office hours after each exam to go over what i missed, duplicate questions from the exams are on the final. She is one of the best in the bio department, TAKE!!!
excellent professor, only teaches Fundamentals of Life Science and knows the subject in and out, lectures are well designed and she goes over them at a good pace
Dr. Harmych is seriously the best. She tells you how she'll grade the exams (which are not multiple choice) and teaches passionately about the subject. I loved the class and have been inspired to take more classes in Parasitology. She never takes attendance but you'll do great in the class if you show up.
Harmych is a really great lecturer. There is barely any homework, but you really have to study and show up to class every day. Attendance isn't mandatory, but there are clicker questions. Plenefisch tags along for the semester and teaches some classes, but he is good too. I would definitely take Harmych again with any chance I get!
Average professor.
Good professor. She was clear and tests were pretty tough but I did not have good study habits down so I received a B. This was not her fault, if I took again confident I would get an A. Go to class and study hard and you should be fine. Drops one test.
Dr. Harmych kept class fun and interesting. She was very helpful and informative but tests were tough. Study, do you're homework, and show up for class and you'll get a good grade
She's fairly average as far as professors go. There are very few grades that go in so every point counts.
I took this class as a freshman several years ago and accidentally missed the final exam by misreading the syllabus. I emailed her panicked and she was very understanding and let me take the exam the next day in her office. I would never recommend missing an exam but she really went above and beyond with her kindness and I'll always appreciate that
Parasitology was really interesting with Dr. Harmych. Her lectures are always clear cut, though she does talk a bit fast. The class is not hard at all as long as you attend and take notes on both what is on the board and what she says. Memorize those life cycles! The textbook is not needed at all; her notes are more concise and give the same info.
Her class was hard. Go to class, fill in the notes, and bring your clicker everyday. It's hard to listen to her and take notes at the same time. Read the chapters and study. Make sure you know the material thoroughly. She puts a lot of launchpad questions on her tests. Study everything because she puts everything in the tests.
Professor Harmych lectures are kind of boring depending on what is being taught. She teaches fast and excepts you to know the information quickly. A lot of homework! You have to read a lot, online homework are difficult at times. Her tests are hard! The only good thing is how her grading scale is set up. So study and go to her office hours for help
Make sure you take good notes, pay close attention to her lectures, attend study tables or her office hours for one on one help, read carefully and take notes on the online book, attend class everyday to earn clicker points!
she is a very fair professor when it comes to tests. When you go to her office hours she is so helpful. Her lectures are decent, it was a little hard to follow but she explains things well.
She's super cool. Don't talk while she's talking though she gets super mad about that. Class is doesn't need textbook but if you get the access-code it comes with the e-textbook.
She moves super duper fast. I didn't purchase a book but I really should've it's hard to follow along just from the notes. Her tests are hard they're very much application of material (boo!). The professor herself is very nice and very approachable though as well as understanding. Clickers for attendance. Her class is okay I guess. Good luck!
Professor Harmych has to be one of the best biology professors that you'll ever encounter at UT. She cares about your grades and is available to explain concepts that you do not understand. Get ready to read the book because a lot of the concepts are from it. Her exams are overall fair and she's not out to fail any of the students. Don't skip class
Really loved this class. Prof Harmych does a great job explaining material. She does move fast through topics, so if you don't understand things don't hesitate to visit her office hours. Super approachable and really wants you to succeed in her class. Definitely would want her again as a professor.
Wonderful woman. Lectures are entertaining. Very clear syllabus. Before the final, she curves up homework, pack back questions, and clicker questions. Will explain any questions you have thoroughly during office hours and before exams. I can tell that she is passionate about her subject and wants to see her students do well.
Thinks she's funny but she's not. Study for tests or you will fail, don't underestimate the class. Her tests are specific.
Dr. Harmych is a wonderful woman who really cares about igniting passion for the field of Biology in others. The hardest part about her class is the exams, but she curves the homework and clickers at the end. However, her final is exam is really easy compared to the midterm exams.
This lab course was super easy. It really depends on what TA you have; it can honestly make or break your grade. Basically, just do the worksheets, show up, and ask for feedback on lab reports before you turn them in. The only hard part about this class was animal classification during the lab practical, but as long as you study you should be fine.
Class covered a lot, make sure you attend class because you seriously won't pass! If you are coming to her for help early, then she will be willing to help you a lot! Do not attend her office hours late in the semester because she will not care about your grade. She teaches pretty fast so stay on top of your note taking!
A lot of information during lectures so take notes, but she is always willing to go over things more than once and clarify things if you ask. Not the easiest class, you have to work for it, but if you do the work and study it's not bad at all. She does reviews the class before the exam and you can ask as many questions as you want
I loved going to Dr Harmych's class. Very understanding and willing to help you during her office hours. I strongly recommend reading the textbook before any exams to make sure you have a good understanding of the material, because she has a lot to go over in class. Added a minor in biology because of Dr Harmych's passion and love for the subject
Nutrition with Dr. Harmych was a really interesting and enjoyable course. I felt that a lot of things I learned can help me in day to day life. Dr. Harmych wants to see everybody succeed and will do everything she can to help you.
Ehh her class is kinda annoying. Three midterms, all fill in and short answer, but not too bad. Actually have to study for this class - not an easy A, but not hard to get an A at all. Just have to put more work in than i expected. Her lectures are pointless, but she has in-class assignments. Doesn't post notes on blackboard. She's super unorganized
Overall she was good, but had drastic mood changes that were usually pretty uncomfortable. The class covers so much material, and youre expected to know all of it. The reviews were less and less helpful and representative of what was on the exams as you progress in the class. Study a lot, and take consistent notes. Its a tough A, but easy to pass
Very engaging lectures that are jam packed with information. Although theyre over textbook material, DONT skip on textbook notes to supplement lectures. Covers alot of stuff in a short period of time; I missed one lecture and was behind an entire chapter. Study hard for exams, but dont freak because she curves the homework at the end!
She teaches well, provides study guides and gives fair exams
Her PowerPoints are well organized and she genuinely cares about whether you understand the information. You don't really need to read a lot but as long as you show up to class and participate in lecture you'll do good. Some of the exams had some tricky answers but the final was very easy.
Dr. Harmych cares so much for the students she comes in contact with. She may not remember your name, but she will remember your face and talk to you outside of class. She helped me so much, and she always gave me confidence when I talked to her. I hope to take one of her classes later on in my college career.
Professor Harmych is a very educated woman. Her lectures make the information clear and the tests have no information on it that wasn't mentioned in the lecture. Her grading is very clear also. They're a handful of homework that is to be done out of class but is not difficult or time consuming. Overall she was very good and I'd take her again.
Honestly, hands down she was one of the best professors I had so far. She taught everything so beautifully and she set the foundation of me having a love for biology. I was always early and ready to class because she gave off that same energy throughout her lectures. Her exams are fair. I highly recommend her.
I absolutely loved Harmych's class and would take one of them again!
Had to retake this class after getting a C+ with Steven and ended up with an A. Dr. Harmych records and posts her lectures from class so listen to those and take extra notes to ace exams. Easily one of my favorite professors
I love bragging about how great Dr. Harmych was to my friends at home. I had to get up at 8:30 every Monday through Friday for her class, but it was worth it. She uses participation points and homework points, so it is a little bit of work but it won't be anything crazy. I wish I could have Harmych for every class and always love to say hi to her.
Sally is a great professor. Her lectures, however, are almost word for word from the online version of the material/book that is given to you with the learning curve assignments. Although this does make lectures a bit boring, it makes it easy to learn the material if you decide to skip class. She makes this class an easy, enjoyable A.
Great professor and I am taking her again for BIOL2150. She gives great study guides for her exams, and she drops the lowest exam. There is a lot of wiggle room to earn the A, and she makes the class interesting.
She is a great processor. She is certainly on the easier side and easier to get an A, but the downside is that her lecture is basically a review of the book so the lecture isn't as important.
Professor Harmych is a great professor. I recommend her 10/10.
Dr. Harmych was one of the professors for my freshman year biology lab in 2018. She's caring and knowledgeable. Someone said, "Dr. Harmych will remember your face and talk to you outside of class" -- this is 100% true. One year after being her student, she recognized me and gave me a pep talk on the spot. I'd love to take another class with her!
I had Prof Harmych for Major Concepts in Biology. As a College Credit Plus student I was nervous to be taking a collegiate level science class but she made it easy to learn. It's helpful to preview the chapter before going to class since she has you to answer clicker questions during lectures. Towards the end of the semester you'll play jeopardy
I love this professor she is very sweet, explains things thoroughly, she is very helpful, her lectures are not bad at all. The lectures can be confusing because I am not great at biology but she did a great job and I ended with a good grade.
Dr. Harmych is the best professor I have ever had. She is so caring and kind to her students and is always there when you need help.
I took this class fall 2020 online. Really easy class and not much homework. There is a pre and post lecture assignment before and after every lecture but they are very easy. She tells us what to study for the 4 mid term exams and final. She is also lenient on missing class if you send her an email. She also required us to get sapling abt $45
Professor Harmych is a fair grader and is willing to work with you if any issues arise. If you do the work you will end up with a good grade. My only complaint is that sometimes professor Harmych seemed to only read half of the email I sent. I had to send multiple emails to get one paper graded even though she would reply to me about other stuff.
Sally was the best! She helped me out a lot this semester. Highly recommend!
The class is super manageable and the work that was assigned help with your career like writing a resume or professional email. She will help you with things not related to the class or help you get in contact with someone who can. She is super understanding and genuinely cares about her students.
Dr. Harmych is really sweet is there to help you if you are struggling. I took it online due to COVID and all of the texts were opennote. She gave four exams total and drops the lowest score, and also counts homework, clicker, and discussion board points so your whole grade isn't based on exams. I'm not a great student but her class was pretty easy
Amazing professor! I took parasitology as an elective of sorts but it will help me with my second parasitology course that I need to take for my major. I would totally take this course again. It was a lot of fun. Highly recommend
Dr. Harmych is a good professor. She knows what she is doing and cares about the wellbeing of the student. Biology in my personal opinion is not the most exciting topic but she does a good job in teaching the material. Take her as she is one of the best professors in the department
I missed one class because of covid and we had to select an infographic for an assignment and we would be using the infographic as a reference for the remainder of the semester and she wouldn't let me pick one because I wasn't in class the day we had to make our selections and I was unable to finish the semester because of this.
Her lecture notes are fill in the blank which makes it really easy to stay focused. You take 4tests and she drops your lowest score, & curves your homework total grade & i-clicker total grade. Her study guides are really useful, and so are the clicker questions. She answers emails really quickly, especially on exam days. Overall a great professor.
Dr.Harmych not a bad prof, but she moves at a very fast pace and her presentations do not have all the information that are on the tests so do not only depend on her notes. You should always show up to class because there is graded classwork. If you want a good grade you need to study well for it because this class is not an easy A
She is a great professor and is really nice! Textbook is online along with homework (which isn't too bad). There are quite a few tests, you have one after every 3 chapters. I didn't think they were that challenging if your study (not much time in between each though). She does take out questions sometimes and drops lowest grade.
She is very passionate professor and she cares about how the students are doing in the class. If you go to her office hours, you will get a lot of help. The class is not hard just as long as you take notes and do the homework. I would recommend showing up to class and participating. Review for her exams and you will be fine.
Dr. Harmych is an amazing professor, highly recommend to take her for biology. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Make sure to read the chapters and do the reading guides before exams.
This is the Biology professor to take at UT. She doesn't do research so her job is teaching. She is a good teacher.
Not many grades other than exams which are heavily graded. She is very good at explaining material and is always available if you need more help after class! Definitely take her if you get the chance!!
Dr.Harmych not a bad prof, but she moves at a very fast pace and her presentations do not have all the information that are on the tests so do not only depend on her notes. You should always show up to class because there is graded classwork. Thinks she's funny but she's not. Study for tests or you will fail her tests are specific.
Super understanding, always willing to help. If you study the notes she lectures on in class, the tests will be easy. Also use the study guides she posts, those are amazing to help prepare you for her tests. Overall, amazing professor and would for sure take her again.
Over the years I feel as she has gotten more strict and harsher. The exams are very difficult to understand and she claims you can come into office hours to receive guidance, but upon coming in for help, she laughed in my face for a question I got wrong on the previous exam. The exam median was only above a 70% once and that was her being generous.
Dr. Harmych is a great professor. She is available during office hours throughout the week and was respectful when I stopped by. Some of the questions on her exams can be difficult to comprehend, but as long as you understand the material, you will get the grade you deserve. I learned a lot this semester.
Harmych>> Stevens 4 exams and a final but she drops lowest exam. hw is easy. theres a lot of curving at the end of the semester and final is pretty easy. Take her but you need to put in the work for the exams.
Dr. Harmych is a great professor. She really tries to make her lectures interesting and interactive. She is very helpful if you go to her office hours, and she responds to emails quickly. The exams are difficult, and you need to put in the work to do well. She also has study guides for each chapter which are extremely helpful.
exams are hard but going to office hours can help definitely requires A LOT of studying really nice, but lectures can get boring
She assigns online homework that is fairly easy and consistent. The workload in the class is not bad but studying is required to get good grades on her exams. She provides study guides for the exams and has a review day in class. I would recommend going to her office hours after exams to get feedback from her. Overall, she was really nice :)
She was my professor after my professor left. She is a great professor and really amazing. I had emailed her a couple times and she was right on it which helped me out a lot. Even know that my professor left in the middle of the semester Dr. Harmych stepped in and did her thing. I would recommend everyone to take her
LOVED THIS PROFESSOR! Her lectures are straight teaching and you learn so much. Her exams were easy if you studied, and throws out questions and gives them back as extra credit. I loved this class and Sally. would take this prof again and again if i could!! Do her study guides and make quizlets for the vocab words given, and read the book.
Dr. Harmych is one of the best professors that I could've asked for because she is really lenient with her students and her lectures are really fun to attend! She is very approachable when you need to ask a question or review a test. I would recommend attending every lecture because she makes the material really easy to understand!
Her exams are very challenging. Expect to fail one or two of them before you get an average grade on one. She likes to apply concepts rather than just black and white, textbook, vocabulary based questions. She is consistent and grades quickly which is nice, but she will challenge you.
Absolutely loved her. I though biology was going to be my hardest class, ending up being the easiest. You have 4 exams (not including the final), and your lowest gets dropped. The exams are curved based on the highest grade received. I got a 100% on my final. Make sure you do her fill in notes during lectures and look over the study guides.
4 exams not including the final 50Q in 60min multiple choice, She drops the lowest. Gives black and white info but apply them in concepts in the exams which makes them VERY challenging. She let you fill out her Ppt in class which won't make u focus in what she's saying. So you'll have to TEACH YOURSELF EVERYTHING. Have fun!!
Sally is super sweet, but this class is much harder than the last. There's 5 exams total. 4 midterm exams, She drops the lowest. Most of your grade is exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but you must get iclickers right to keep your grade. Final is worth 30%. Lots of studying. Exams are mostly in depth questions and her slides are just definitions.
This course is very difficult and has a lot of material however Dr.Harmych does a great job of making it easier for the students to understand. She drops the lowest exam grade and you get a grade boost at the end of the semester from extra credit. Don't only fill in the notes but pay attention to her lectures. She is very student-oriented!
She is super nice and a great teacher. There are in class assignments and iClicker, but for the class assignments, you are able to turn them in even when you didn't attend class. She also drops your 5 lowest iClicker scores and your lowest exam.
Nice professor, attendance not mandatory but there is iclickers every class so it might as well be mandatory. She drops your 5 lowest iclickers and your lowest exam score. Exams are in person on paper, study the PowerPoints and her study guides you'll do good. Hw & quiz assignment due every week but are quick and easy.
I took major concepts in biology and parasitology with Dr. Harmych. She is a great lecture and very knowledgeable about the topics she teaches. She cares about her students. The material can be hard, so study. You also should not miss class; lectures posted online have blank parts on purpose so you'll go to class. One of the best I've had at U.T.
Dr. Harmych is a great professor. The class is a challenging course but if you attend her office hours and use SI wisely you will do just fine in her class. The exams and final are weighted heavy but she curves most exams and final grades which is helpful. Super sweet and wants everyone to do the best they can in her class.
Dr. Harmych is a good professor but extremely lecture heavy and this made me struggle a little. The class is the same everyday lecture/notes.
She was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend taking her class. She respects all of her students and is very helpful when you come to her with questions or help.
Dr. Harmych is truly the best! Her lectures don't put you to sleep and she has a cute mom humor that makes everyone laugh. She's very good about giving points back and she does round final grades if she's able to. She's very passionate about Bio and is willing to help you whenever she can!
Dr. Harmych was an amazing professor, there were 3 exams that were always like the study guides. She was always willing to help. Daily i-clicker questions also helped boost grade. 100% would take another one of her classes.
She's very lecture heavy and will ask questions on the exams that are super application based to make sure you rewatch her lectures on BB. She has so many slides that she can't even get through a whole chapter in one lecture. Make sure you actually study, your grades really do reflect your effort in this class. Very sweet lady though. Good luck :/.
Dr. Harmych is a really really good person. She is there to help you in any way that you need with the course. Her courses are not mandatory, but they are very helpful in order to understand the content and do well on the exams. Overall, she is a fair grader and she provides lots of extra stuff such as homework grades to help with your grade.
Dr. Harmych was an amazing professor. She is lecture heavy but they were always interesting and she gave out study guides for the exams which were extremely helpful. Daily i-clicker questions but I thought they were also helpful. You can tell she wants everyone to pass. The PowerPoint notes were also helpful. For me, quizlet was my best friend.
Professor Harmych is a great professor. She's lecture heavy but everything she teaches is informational and she keeps it entertaining. There's iclicker almost every class for attendance and easy weekly homework assignments due Sunday. She also offers an optional video review session the night before the exam and study guides which was super helpful
Good teacher, just make sure you pay attention to lectures and study off of iClicker questions. Anything she says, show's is fair game for the exams
Long lectures, reads off slides, good person but strict sometimes
This class was tough for certain chapters for me but I ended with a 96% in the class. She gives out study guides for each chapter and all the notes help on the exams. Attendance isn't mandatory but points are given for attendance. Just go, it makes the class easier.
Her grading criteria is set up for you to end up with a decent grade. There are lots of opportunities to earn points and plenty of resources to help you along the way.
Content was difficult but the professor was very good, available outside of class and responded promptly to emails. Very little homework and in class assignments were easy. Used I clicker a lot, exam all application based.
Dr. Harmych is an amazing professor. She is amusing and will make you smile with her occasional jokes. She is also extremely understanding and caring. She will not move on in a slideshow until she can tell (or asks) if everyone is ready. Dr. Harmych will take off a question and give points if majority answer it wrong on an exam
Very good professor. Honestly, the easiest class I have taken in college. She makes things very clear about what will be on the exams and what she wants you to know. Great PowerPoints, great study guides, and used iclicker!
Dr. Harmych is a great professor. She is definitely lecture heavy and make sure you pay attention to everything she says because it is fair game for exams. Definitely make sure to study the iclicker questions that she gives in class.
I really enjoyed this class! This was a retake because the first professor I had for Biology did not seem to care as much, but Dr. Harmych really cares about her students doing well. It's not super difficult to get an A in this class, just make sure you are really understanding & asking for clarification on any topics you find difficult.
overall generally easy class but later on it gets hard. OMG was exam 3 so hard. You have to watch the lectures and read the slides and thats enough for studying!
The class is tough, but I really enjoyed it. She does speak extremely fast in her lectures though, and I'm not a quick writer. She's a picky grader and majority of the exams are extended response. FOCUS ON LIFE CYCLES!!! Take good notes too, hers aren't the best in my opinion.
Professor Harmych is an absoultey amazing at what she does. The class is very lecture heavy and there's a lot of material but she is very attentive at answering questions and helping you work through things you aren't quite understanding.
If you have to take BIOL 2170, take it with Sally. The course is going to be content heavy no matter what, but any amount of studying will easily get you in the 70-80 range on tests. Heavy studying will get you an A. 4 midterms are 50 multiple choice questions, and the final is 100 multiple choice. She drops your lowest exam. I barely showed up.
I said attendance isn't mandatory, but she does clicker questions everyday that account to your attendance which is free points at the end of the semester. She lectures everyday, just make sure you take good notes and know how to study properly and you will succeed. The tests get harder as they go and become more application based so just STUDY!!!
She uses iclicker for class points. She did live stream all my lectures so if you were sick you could still participate and earn your iclicker points. She has fill in power points that go along with her lectures. Her tests are not overly difficult.
Professor Harmych is a good lecturer but if you don't pay attention, you won't understand anything. Her lectures are good, but since there is so much information to cover, she does go pretty fast. I got by studying pretty lightly and getting okay grades, but if you want A's, you would need to study way more and way ahead of time.
She is super sweet and loves to crack a joke! This class is fairly easy if you put time into studying, pay attention, and attend class. She always emails about her office hours, especially after exams to review which is super helpful. Your grade will depend on the amount of effort you are willing to put in!
She uses Iclicker almost every single lecture. She allows talking to other students during iclicker/ group paper work. She drops the lowest exam grade. She doesn't round up final course grades. Her lecture notes were very organized and helpful, but also try and listen to her talk while taking notes. She is very knowledgable about biology.
Her presentations are easy to understand, and she provides guided notes for all the chapters. There are 4 exams and a final and she drops your lowest exam grade at the end of the semester. She is always so positive and fully of energy! Made going to class at 8:30am M-Th enjoyable. Highly recommend her :)
This class was my favorite for the semester. Sally helped me review what I missed on exams and it helped me study better. The lectures are long, but they are filled with actual things we need to know instead of wasting time. Recitation days helped with really understanding the material. She is a nice person and a great professor! Highly recommend!
Such an understanding prof who wants the best for her students. Gave me an extension on the final exam and several exemptions for health issues I had this semester. Her exams can be a little tricky but nothing too bad, and there are other opportunities to earn credit. Just make sure to show up to class, iClicker participation matters and adds up.
Easy class overall, although attendance is not mandatory, I highly recommend you attend. Also, MAKE sure to use her slides, Kahoot (she has some for certain chapters), and test study guides when studying. She is very caring and has extra credit opportunities; iClicker questions help your grade out along with her dropping the lowest exam grade.
She's wonderful! Really cares for all students and once i had technical issue and couldn't do pre quiz so she postponed it for the whole class. She's always open to talk outside of class but make sure to really focus on the notes and focus on everything she says and try to get an understanding of everything for the exam. Her exams weren't bad tho.
Very good professor. All test were fair and predictable. She does an amazing job making sure you are only tested on what she goes over in lecture so ATTEND. Final exam was easy with simple comprehension questons. She is very nice and cares about her students and their success which makes you as a student try harder and achieve more.
I had Sally Harmych for Biology 2170, and she was an excellent professor. Her lectures covered all the essential material, and attending SI and reading the textbook were helpful. Daily attendance and note-taking are key. The exams were fair and multiple-choice. It's an easy class if you keep up with the workload. Highly recommend Harmych!
PowerPoint heavy class. You better be paying attention because she will put everything you miss on the exam. Loving professor, and lovesss biology. Exams are straight forward but STUDY. If you don't study prepare to take it again next semester.
One of the best professors I've had so far in college. If you read the textbook, it makes following along during her lectures much easier. Her tests are easy if you study and prepare in advance. Overall, she does not try to trick you in any way on her exams and her final exam is based on easy questions taken from earlier exams.
Nice teacher, her tests and assignments can be time consuming but they are not that difficult. Study and you will do good. She sometimes tweaks out in the middle of class over some minor stuff, but aside from that she is an amazing professor.
She is honestly the best professor Ive had so far. Her lectures are very engaging and it is super easy to take notes. My favorite part about her classes are the iClicker, if everyone gets the question right she brings in candy. Overall she is an amazing person inside and outside the classroom! I highly recommend everyone take her class.
This professor is incredibly accommodating and truly cares about her students' success. She makes an effort to provide all the resources needed to excel in the course. One of the most helpful aspects is that she records her lectures live. She has a study guide for each exam, as long as you study it thoroughly, you'll do great. Would take again!
Always having office hours to talk about anything you don't understand
10/10 great professor.
By far and away one of the best professors at the University. Very easily accessible, with easy exams that accurately reflected the material taught in class. Great humor. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR FOR BIOL2170, you won't regret it!
If you listen to lectures and review the study guide, you'll do fine on the exams. She lets us join online or in person for class, and they are all recorded. Four midterm exams, she drops the lowest, and one final exam, all in person. She has worksheets occasionally, and an online book is included in the class.
Sally was super sweet! I struggled a little bit with the exams because her study guides didn't give real practice problems, but other than that she really got to know her students! She gives out candy when all students get the right answer on iclicker.
Easy going professor but she has some flaws. Her study guides are inaccurate and unorganized but her exams are multiple choice. Lecture slides were also unorganized so definitely read the textbook. Exams are somewhat difficult but she drops questions that everyone got wrong. Recitation worksheets are the absolute worst. You must try to pass.
while she is an absolute cornball, i would take her class again. makes herself giggle and i find that entertaining so i go to lecture. hw was reasonable and lectures were super helpful. she's willing to slow down whenever. she can be a raging yk what BUT also super helpful and passionate. she just gets snippy w students very easily.
The class is a bit difficult, but Sally's lectures make the exams decently easy. there is 5 exams throughout the semester, but they were all on her lecture notes. as long as you go to class and take notes, minimal studying is needed.
Dr. Harmych is a great professor for BIO2170. Pay attention to what she says during the lecture that isn't included in the slides. There are four midterms, but if you prepare well, you will be fine. The midterms are more application question-heavy than definitions. That was a learning curve for me. Go to her office hours, she is super nice!
Professor gave very clear guidelines and opportunities to do well in this class. All tests are multiple-choice only.
one of the kindest professors you'll ever be in contact with. she cares so much about her students. I went to look over an exam with her because I didn't do very well and explained that I had a lot going on outside of school related to family, she was so supportive and told me that I am doing great, she only uplifted me. lectures are also amazing!
Dr. Harmych is absolutely AMAZING. She clearly outlines her expectations at the beginning of the semester, she might sound harsh at first, but she is extremely flexible. Don't be intimidated by her, if you have questions email or go to her office hours. If I could take every class with Dr. Harmych I would!
Love her! Super sweet. Weekly quizzes and pre-chapter assignments. Gives points for iClicker every lecture. Explains things very well. I would recommend.
10/10 loved her class. This was my first bio class since HS, but she made it super easy to follow along and understand. She uses iClicker for attendance, but all of her lectures were also recorded online, so you didn't have to be present in the classroom. I've decided to take her next-level bio class as well!
