Very very good teacher. With this class, you get what you put into it. Dr. Saidane is very helpful if you need any help in the course or questions answered. She is able to relate chemistry to you when she explains the concepts. It makes chemistry practical and useful in the real world. Awesome teacher, highly recommended.
One of my favorite teachers here at Mesa. She is extremely knowledgeable about chemistry, and does a great job of teaching it. She was always a very helpful prof during office hours. I would 100% recommend taking this teacher.
Good professor, hands down. Genuinely wants you to learn the material she teaches and not just to memorize it but she makes it interesting and comprehensible even for those whom chemistry is not their thing. Very nice personality. Impeccable office hours and very helpful. If only they were all as good as this one.
best teacher ever! she makes her class really enjoyable and interesting. if you keep up with the homework, you'll get an easy A! Too bad she doesn't teach chem 200...
Explains material very well. she e-mails hmwrk and power point presentations, so the text is not required, yea! save money! she offers extra office hours and is very fair. you have to work for a good grade, but she makes it very possible. good professor to take before chem200.
I took this class because of all the praise on this website and instantly regreted it. Personally, I can't stand when teachers use powerpoints to teach. I'm not saying she's a bad teacher, She really does appear to care about students, i just didn't like her teaching style. Good person though!
I was ready to give up on chemistry until i took this class. She is a very good teacher and explains everything thoughly and if you ask a question she will answer it untill you understand it, if you dont get it go to her tutoring hours and she will explain to you what you dont get. I highly recommend this teacher.
she is the best!!! she is so helpful , you have no idea, she really wants you to learn , just do the homework and go to the class, you will get an A and you will be ready for 200!!!
My favorite teacher at Mesa. Very helpful, kind, and seems to genuinely care about her students succeeding. Highly reccomended.
If you take chemistry with Prof. Saidane do not expect any sort of assistance, do not expect your assignments to be graded on time and don't expect questions to be answered. You might as well open a chemistry book and figure it out on your own. HORRIBLE!
Mixed feelings here. Truly devoted, cares for her students. I did the HW and studied. She does not correct HW, and by fluke was not able to post on website. I never knew if my HW was right. This showed on tests, but I passed b/c she allowed our final to replace our overall grade if higher. She will help you but do not expect her to hold your hand.
Oh god, she is horrible. Please, if you're taking a class with her do not expect her to answer your questions in a logical smooth way. She is really impatient and has attitude. She answers a question with "I told you". Like you should get it at the first time. In short she knows chemistry, but is awful at explanation and very impatient.
She is an amazing Chemistry teacher! She really knows what she is talking about and does care for her students. She always made class fun by having us participate and work together. She always has a smile on her face when she walked in to class. She is a harder grader on tests, but that is what reading and studying are for. If you read the tex
She's really helpful!
Who hired this B? She is moody and Expetcs you to learn everything at once. Although she says ask if you didn't undrestand, she most likely doesn't answer you.
I did not have a good experience with this instructor. She is EXTREMELY impatient to the point that we were all scared to ask any questions. She expects you to instantly understand everything without any explanations and if you inquire further she will scold you like a child. I found the class demeaning, discouraging and a waste of time.
SHE IS SCARY!!! she speaks very rudely and makes you feel dumb for not understanding her confusing instructions. the only positive is that she does it to everyone but it still makes you want to not ask questions and if she catches you making a mistake, WATCH OUT, i should have taken fremland for for 152L.
I had her as a high school teacher (she taught it the same way), and she was wonderful. I found her to be extremely helpful and held as much office hours as possible for us to learn the material. I have since moved onto an elite university near Boston, and to this day still use the knowledge that she taught me.
She makes people scared to ask questions by making them feel stupid for not understanding things. The hardest I've ever worked for a C in my life, that is if I even pass. Take someone else.
One of the best chem teachers in mesa , very knowlegable and knows what she is teaching , do the HW and quizez and study for test and take advantage of Her Office Hours and for sure you get A. you ned to work hard for this class b/c there is alot to do and the good thing u will be ready in chem200 after her class. highly recommended.
Great instructor. I took her over the summer for Chem 100 LAB.. I wish she had taught the lecture too. She made difficult concepts really make sense. You can tell chemistry really is her passion. She is very helpful and a nice lady. I would definitely take her again. Doesn't tolerate rude, disrespectful, disruptive students.
Pros: knows the material well, provides a lot of resources for studying (i.e. power points, lecture notes, practice exams) Cons: little patience, not approachable, you turn in one lab report for every pair - poor idea b/c someone always ends up doing all the work (i.e. if you care about your grade you carry the load). Overall: be sure to study.
Very organized for each lab. Very tough grader. The in-class final was unexpected (definitions of tons of terms for 5 pages). She tends to not give much of any partial credit. You either get the points or none. I got a B only because I did well on labs (A's and B's), but the 2nd test and final killed me.
Dr. Saidane is awesome. I hated chemistry in HS, so I was dreading the class in the beginning, but as soon as I had her, chemistry made me want to switch majors! Do the HW, do the online quizzes, and you should easily pass. Listening, and attending is a must; you miss a class, you're already pretty behind. No textbook needed b/c it's all online
I was super nervous about taking my first chem class.. after the first lecture, i knew i picked the right professor. How much she helps you understand the material is unbelievable. she even went out of her way to make it so you don't even need a text book. she summarizes every chapter into only one page- AWESOME.
She comes to class everyday with a huge smile on her face eager to share her knowledge of Chemistry with her students. Her work is on the side of not too hard and not too easy. Do all the homework and TRY because thats all she wants. All her tests are made up of questions from the HW & she teaches so well that you wont need a textbook.
She is one of the top professors I have ever had and if you need a SOLID foundation in chemistry, go with her. Yes, she is moody and scares some people, but you cannot take it personally. She is very tough and it forces you to work hard and really LEARN the material. When you go to her office, she is so helpful and NICE.
**I took her online course, but there were several occasions when she offered to meet the class on-campus (on her own free time) to provide us extra lecturing and help.** I was very satisfied with the course, and would definitely take her again.
Easiest class I've taken in a long time! It was an online course, so I was able to take in what I needed to learn and know, do the work, and be done with it w/o having to deal w/ the potentiality of physically sitting through a boring or painful lecture that a lot of professors tend to pull on you.
Easy easy easy!Have a vocab every week-but its open notebook.Just show up for class,do your vocab words, and try to do your lab as best you can.Always willing to help and is very happy to answer your questions regarding the lab.Teaches in a way that you remember everything. One of the best teachers Ive ever had! TAKE HER!!!
She knows the material. She expects you read the book before coming to class. Points come from tests, homework and attendance. A very nice professor in front of the whole class when teaching. But no patience at all!! Not approachable! If you ask a question, she thinks you are dumb. She pays attention to the students that she likes only!
I got F last semester so I took this class again and them I got A even though I had C on the midterm. She's gonna give A all students who got A just on the final exam. She'll give u study guide for the final. Just study and memorize all the questions and then you can get easy A.
One of the best professor that I have. Not only she knows materials but also how to teach and inspired students. With two kids and a full time job, finding time and being inspired to study chemistry is not easy. But she inspired me to push on with her enthusiasm and love for teaching. She encourages you to think beyond the formulas.
She is a wonderful lecture teacher. She makes chemistry clear, interesting and fun to learn. Somehow, from lecture to lab, she mysteriously transforms from an angel into an ogre. With absolutely no provocation or justification, she is rude, meanspirited and horrible. I chose to take lab at a godawful hour, just to be in her class. Very bad choice.
You would have to be a terrible student to fail her class. Awesome grading scale. Her lectures are straight to the point and useful. She gives a take home pretest a week or so before every exam, which has the exact questions that will be used on the test.(tests are 50questions, but pretest has 150 questions). As long as you study its an easy B.
Not very clear and looses her patience often... she doesn't follow the book (which personally i don't like) but I would still recommend you to buy it since her powerpoint is not that great. In general not a real good teacher but she makes up for it by giving a pretest with exactly the same questions that will come on the test.
If you're planning on going on to Chem 200 take her. You will be well prepared. If not, don't. Chem 157 is A LOT of work, it isn't just her so be prepared. Do the pretests and you will do well on exams. If you aren't great with math you may want another professor. She goes over it very quickly. She does NOT grade on the curve.
Took her for Lecture & Lab; overall one of the easiest Chem Lecture there is! Explains things very well. Test are the exact same as the Pretest, easy A. Would reccommend for 152
Lab was extremely easy. Everything was throughly explained. She can be extremely mean when you mess up though since she will say something on the lines of "I just show'd you this.. yadayada" but other then that and her extremelly picky grading on the reports a great lab.
"Dr.Saidane" is great at teaching the material. Got good grades in class. But she really is bitter and hates students. Whenever questions were asked she'd get annoyed.Grades hard on HW. DO THE PRETEST!test come straight from pretest.Offers a few extra credit assignments.Everything is online. No point in textbook.Good overall but thinks she's god.
best advice i can give you for both lecture and lab is to find someone you can study with. She knows her stuff. Rarely misses any class. Uses her own notes and posts them up in computer. Sometimes a hard grader. Appreciates questions and hard working students. Gives points for attendance. Tests are a little tricky but offers pre-tests.
Not friendly. Has weird arbitrary grading. My friend and I would turn in the exact same lab reports and we would always get different grades. Explains lab procedure really well at the beginning of class. She hates it when you mess up & she's not afraid to yell at you either. Just be prepared every lab by reading thru the material. Easy to get A.
DO NOT TAKE HER ONLINE CLASS! She does not correspond with the class, her material is unorganized and her timed quizzes are phrased completely different from the homework questions... we've even been quizzed on chapters before we learned the material...
Professor Saidane is a good teacher. She can be a bit intimidating, but all she wants is for her students to do well. She also posts powerpoints and notes online, which you can read before class, it helps. As long as you show up & pay attention it's not hard to get an A. She might be a bit tough on you, but it will help you in the long run.
I don't know what she's like in person, but the online course was just down right horrible. The quizzes were miss matched to the chapters we were doing. Which made it very hard to get good grades (but I did anyway cause I'm a smarty) and I never got any email responses to my questions. Her power points were thorough but useless for the homework.
Dr Saidane knows here stuff. She definitely took the time to help me out with extra out of class help to understand the material. If you want to be challenged and learn Chemistry, take her class. But be ready to put in the extra time to learn the material. If I could take her for 200 I would but budget cuts made it impossible.
I don't have any clue how anyone can give this professor a good rating. She is an absolute horrible professor. For an intro Chem class, she teaches as if the whole class already holds degrees in it. Not good at all at presenting the information at an introductory level. When she grades papers, she destroys them. AVOID!!!
Professor Saidane is completely uninvested in both the class and her students. I am in her online class and her lab. She has never once commented on discussions, and never responds to emails. In the lab, she yells at her students, and is impatient. She does not explain material well, and does not set clear expectations. Grades appear arbitrary.
Yes, she can be mean spirited/impatient, but I didn't care b/c she is good at explaining the subjects and best of all, lets you turn the lab in at the NEXT class, which gives you time to understand & prepare it and do well. Easy A (for this hard subject) if u follow her requirements. :)
I saw another poster's comment and wanted to agree. Her lecture class is fine, explains things lays ideas out and is a solid teacher. Lab on the other had is horrible. Random grades that no one seems to be able to comprehend, extremely strict criteria for lab work, with no examples given on what it should be, just vague descriptions.
Very helpful and knowledgeable about chemistry. Also, she is hot!
I was dreading taking Gen Chem, but after taking her class, I want to major in it! She's very knowledgeable and enjoy sharing what she knows with the class. She made chemistry very interesting! I only took her for lecture. Drops 1 exam. If you're going to take Chem take Saidane!
This was my second lab with Saidane. In 100L she was a bit cranky, probably because she had to explain things over and over to chem newbs. In 200L she was a different person. Friendly, and while still a bit...firm, quite nice to be around. Would recommend her 200L.
Very helpful Instructor. Attend classes. Pay attention and you'd pass it. I will take her classes again.
My fav professor at Mesa! I postponed taking this class for the longest time. But after taking Saidane, I fell in love with Chem, I was so into it I almost considered changing my major. She is passionate about the subject, makes it so interesting. I took this class 2 years ago and I'm still looking back and thinking about her, she was THE BEST!
Dr. Saidane can be impatient, and she will yell; but she's not bad. She's picky because she's trying to teach an exact science. I was afraid of her at first, but if you get over the fear, she's great. She just wants you to develop good lab habits. Don't be afraid! Just do your background work, and the class will be a breeze. Don't mind the yelling.
She will most definitely prepare you for further chemistry courses but for those are taking chemistry for the first time with Saidane, you will be challenged. She does not use a textbook so there is no extra resource besides the pots/docs she posts online. Weekly hw, weekly online quizzes. Tests are tricky. A-achievers will need to study hard.
she is really good at explaining all her material throughly, and if you didnt get it then you can look at her powerpoint. if you study, do your homework and do your pretests you will pass no questions asked. she has little patience when studends don't get it, but in the long run she preps you for other chem classes also. would take her 100x over
Horrible grader. Marks points off without showing what you did wrong. Returns your graded works very late ~ 2 weeks. Sometimes she's confused about what to do in the labs. Easily gets cranky if you didn't read the lab before going to class and do sth stupid (which is a good thing). That's all about the lab, I don't know about her lecture. Got an A.
Refuses to help you when you need help on the lab she does not answer questions clearly. No one asks her questions because they are afraid to ask and rather stay quiet and take the bad grade. Expect to get help from other lab teachers. Also extremely bad grader you will never know what you are doing wrong she does not tell you.
TOUGH GRADER! Theres no real structure or pattern on how she grades, you just get what you get. She gets cranky a lot and has little patience, nonetheless, as long as you follow the instructions in your book its not too hard. Just make sure you double check everything (especially Sig Figs) because she marks every little mistake.
Do not take online from her! She will not work with you or help you out at all. If you try asking for help, she will get mad and tell you to read the confusing power points that don't make any sense or go with the book. Taking this class from her will leave you severely unprepared for the next level.
She is a useless teacher. She expects that everyone already knows chemistry even though CHEM 152 is an entry level course. She will explain something once and only once. Don't even trying asking for help as she will make a fool of you. Grading structure is incoherent, and strict. Significant Figures seem to be more important that anything else.
Great professor who prepare her students well. Just do the pre-test and you will get a easy A.
Absolutely horrible for online an online class! Her due dates/times are sporadic. Her grading is useless, as she doesn't tell you what you did wrong. She leaves it up to students to answer each others homework questions. Never once interacting with the class on the discussion board, even if it is clear that we are all confused.
This professor WANTS YOU TO PASS but she WILL NOT HOLD YOUR HAND. Do the work (really, practice like she says) and you will pass easily with an A, even if you don't completely understand it. She gives you a practice exam in which the EXACT SAME questions appear on the actual exam. She yells but only if people aren't paying attention
she is MEAN! she has a bad attitude but I have to say she was clear with her hw and quizzes, if you understand the hw you will do great in the quizzes, 1 quiz and hw per week and the final, be prepared final is long!!! and you only have 2 hours to complete it. If you are expecting to get help from her don't take her, got an A
Dr. Saidane's one of the best educators I've had, and any serious student shouldn't pass up the opportunity to take her class if it's a prereq. Yes, she can come off as intimidating and stern, but she will make you a better student. She's not mean, and her lectures are interesting and coherent. 100% effort on your HW and the study guides a must.
She does come off as a strict and mean professor but she's actually one of the best professors i have ever had. If you take proper notes and listen while she explains the lab, you will be just fine. One thing, don't be late for the first couple of weeks, it really annoys her. There are no quizzes or exams or pre-labs for the labs.
Brilliant professor with exceptional knowledge in her field, but I'll leave a few tips: if you enjoy feeling ridiculed, having her raise her voice at you as she hovers over your shoulder, leaving each day thoroughly agitated from her harsh and rather unprofessional behavior, take her. She's simply not patient enough to teach college students.
She is a very good lecturer, and is very clear cut with her grading criteria. However, she is not approachable with questions. You are better off asking your classmates for help.
HER PRACTICE TESTS ARE EXACTLY LIKE HER EXAMS. DO THEM TO SUCCEED. CLASS REQUIRES LOT'S OF OUTSIDE STUDYING, ESPECIALLY WITH CLASSMATES. HER LECTURES ARE OK, BUT SHE DOESN'T TAKE QUESTIONS LIGHTLY.
She is a good teacher, don't get me wrong. It's hard to understand everything very thoroughly through questions though, as she gets pretty impatient. However, she does wish for everyone to do well, and believes that anyone can be successful in chemistry. Just put in the work, and it will show.
not hard at all. Just do the work and show it.
Dr. Saidane will make you work, but it is in your benefit. Practice exams are exactly like the real exams, so do them. Reasonable grading curve: 88%-100% A. She was very unapproachable with questions in the beginning, but as the class progressed she became very open to answering questions; she actually explains everything . Her lectures are good!
Comes off as very strict and intimidating but open to helping you if you ask. Lectures are very clear but sometimes shes quiet so sit in front if you have trouble hearing. Weekly homework and quizzes. Three tests in the semester, optional final. Practice tests exactly like the test so do them. As long as you keep up you will be fine.
Online quiz every week, 3 major test (have to done review test to do well b/c all questions are the same with actual test), and no final, HW turn in once per week.
Great teacher. Doesn't waste time. Yeah she can be a bit on edge but let's face it she's smart and doesn't put up with dumb mouthy students. She shows you how to do everything before each lab. What more can you ask for?
Great teacher/lecture, knows her stuff. Don't take her class if you're sensitive. She can be impatient/mean lol -Practice tests pretty much same as test. No curveballs -One HW and Quiz a week -3 tests, 1 cumulative make up exam(optional) To me it was an easy A Great preparation for 200. Taking her again. LEARNED A LOT
Shes very serious about her SIGFIGS and definitely marks off big time for not following them. Other than that she's an easy grader. She doesn't like stupid questions at all, as in if she just said it don't ask about it. I would take her again because she breaks things down and explains them well. I'm glad I took the chance and took her.
Not much help overall. HW is graded, but it seems only 6 out of the 20 problems are ones with topics covered in class. all else are problems you've never learned about in class/in book. i would pick a different teacher if i took chem 200 again. at this rate, you're almost better off with the book and teaching yourself--- so why take her class?
Was in her 152 class last semester which was a great experience. This semester is the opposite. I agree with the review prior to this one. She barely lectures any of the material of each chapter. Compared to last semester, she fell off HARD. Most likely will be dropping the course cause I want to be prepared for 201.
She is horribly mean! She ridicules you for any little mistake you make. She is unnecessarily harsh to students and it is very obvious that teaching is not her desired position. She speaks quietly so if you are hard of hearing sit at the front. I love chemistry but I will never take another class with this professor again.
Her lectures are confusing and she goes through notes really fast while speaking quietly. The homework is graded and you barely have any time to finish the tests. I seriously suggest you take another lecture professor
Dr. S gets a bad rap, she doesn't mix well with lazy people and she gives the impression that her door is closed even though she says otherwise, but she is possibly the best chem 200 teacher. Her tests are hard (time sensitive wise not content wise) but she gives you the 200 problem pretest and pulls questions from there. Study+read+pretest A.
she explains well but she does not repeat and does not like answering questions at all, she yells when you ask a question and say her lesson was a waste of time. she is a tough grader and loves her sig figs so learn to do that well. if you like being ridiculed in front of the class for asking a questions, the take her
She is absolutely brilliant! Her lectures are very very clear and she is well spoken with what she wants to say about the lesson. However, she is very cruel if you ask questions if you dont understand. She yells! Just because she is a very educated person doesn't make her a good teacher. Practice tests are nice. This class is hard. 5/10
4 test (drop 1 lowest test grade), 13 HW (drop 1 lowest grade). Make sure to study hard and go over pre-test as many times as possibile to get a good grade b/c questions come from there. Don't forget to show all your works on each question on the test.
There are no lectures for this course just the book. There is a quiz every week along with homework, but you get no feed back what so ever. It take the professor at least a week to email back and does not answer questions on the discussion board. the only reason I got a B in this class is because I started going to another teachers in class lecture
Prob the best lecture approach in terms of conceptual thinking & understanding WHY. BUT she assigns handwritten HW,& doesn't return it b4 exams 2know if u did it wrong. Don't copy from Chegg, it's often wrong, & she'll grade u way down if ur work is same as others. I emailed her TONS of times, never got a reply. NEVER finished any exams on time.
Gets annoyed if you ask questions even if it is on topic and a reasonable question. Protest is 160 questions but only 30 are on the test. Test is difficult, long and not likely to get a good grade. Studying helps but the test is still insane. Most of the class is failing. The students who really try are even struggling. DON'T TAKE HER!!!!
She can seem tough and scary, but she is an amazing teacher. If you do the homework and ALL of the practice test questions you will do well in her class.
Does not respond to any emails, don't take the course online unless you are able to teach yourself, lucky for me I have much practice in self teaching. If your computer tends to glitch don't take this online course with her because this happened to me while I was taking an exam online, and I asked her if I can retake it and she never responded
I was satisfied with the outcome of the course. Lab is pretty straight forward. She wants things done her way all the time so make sure to take notes during her pre-lab speeches. Lectures were also straight forward, exactly how (5/18/16) described it. Make sure to sit in the front, she speaks pretty softly when she isn't raising her voice. STUDY!
Prof. Saidane is a decent teacher, for lab. Pre-labs are short and labs are easy to follow. Let out early a lot of times. YELLS if you ask her a question so beware of that. Would recommended taking her LAB but not her lecture. I received an F in her lecture and will now have to retake it. She does all of her lecturing on the board, no powerpoint.
I took profesor Saidane for spring , lecture and lab, a very understanding teacher and very professional, you have to dedicate time and effort , show ALWAYS the procedure , do all practice test and go to her workshops and you will get an A , the class is hard but put the effort shows . Best teacher for lab , explains everything in details.
Had her during Summer 2017. Chemistry is a tough, but Saidane did an excellent job of presenting it in a way that was understandable. She gives a packet full of questions as a practice test, but randomly takes questions from there to formulate exams. Only complaint is that sometimes there aren't any questions from there, so it's not fair.
Dr Saidane is the best professor for Chem 200 at Mesa. i took this class with 2 other professors previously and werent 1/2 as clear at explaining material as her. 4 tests over semester but she drops 1. only a handful of homework but its beneficial so u can review material. I wish i would have taken semesters ago, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
It's her first semester teaching Ochem & it's pretty obvious- unclear grading criteria, barely goes in depth on topics, labs are a mess..I can go on. She will yell at you if you ask a question and will not help you if she doesn't think you're putting in effort. If you have a PhD in Chemistry you should be fine -_-
It's her first semester teaching it, so you can't blame her entirely. Study more on your own and ask other professors for help because she'll yell at you. Other than that, she's a great lecturer and I'd recommend her.
Professor Saidane tries her best to help the students to do well in class. She spent her weekend to help students. In addition to that she posts solutions for all problems in the book. I think the rest is students' responsibility to get ready for the exam. Yes, this is her first time teaching O Chem 231, and sometimes may yell at you :)
This professor takes advantage of her position and belittles students when they do not understand a topic. She yells and justifies her yelling by saying it's because she cares. Do not take this professor! Instructors get payed to teach, not to yell and humiliate students. When she does teach she does a good job, but after, she's just rude.
She is incredibly rude, and yells A LOT at students if you don't understand or ask her questions. She will tell you something once and will never repeat it so don't bother asking. She does go over calculations in depth, and provides all the correct information so over all she is a good teacher she just need to work on her people skills.
I personally like Dr Saidane because she's excellent at lecturing and she really cares about everyone. She changed her grading criteria just to help everyone pass and really tried to help out. However, and she is an extremely hard grader. You study other classes to get a good grade but you study hard in her class just to pass
I had her for lab, def recommend! Very in-depth and tells you exactly what you need to do, any missed points are due to sig fig errors most of the time. She's intense but if you show up on time, pay attention, and work even a fraction of how hard she works then she's respectable towards you. She does a lot for her students so work hard and do well.
Her exams only tests you on how fast you can do each problem, and not on showing if you know actual chemistry topics. Very few people finish early on her exams. Plus she told us if we attended workshops that we would get extra credit-- this did not reflect on my grade on all so going to those workshops didn't matter to her.
I took her 8-week class over the summer so the grades were very lenient. Her class was not extremely difficult to understand. You must do the pretest. Pretests are not graded but extremely helpful. 200 questions and only test 10 of them... Good luck...
I'm really torn about Dr. Saidane. She explains concepts in depth and is the best OChem professor I've had, but it takes a lot of effort to do well in her class. She grades hw harshly, which is a large portion of your grade, but she also provides practice exams that are basically the same questions as exams. Take a different prof if you can though.
Things Saloua is good at: grading based on whatever mood she is in, lecturing on things that aren't relevant to tests, yelling at you for asking questions, and screwing up labs. She will make your semester a nightmare.
Positives: Dr. Saidane's lectures are very well-organized and clear. You will definitely learn a lot from her. Not necessarily a tough grader. Decent amount of homework. Exams are very similar to the practice tests she gives out. Negatives: Grading criteria is not very clear. Not much feedback. She's not a friendly person...
If u haven't taken ochem before, avoid her Lectures. Her lab is a disaster. She is super unclear, her lab manual is unclear too. She can't properly communicate with us, and because of that it costed everyone a lab grade, where she didn't take a simple responsibility forit. She is always moody which is discouraging in terms of asking her questions.
Dr. Saidane pushes you very hard in order to learn the material, and she is a great teacher. I can honestly say I have never worked harder in a class in my college career. I recommend reading every page assigned and doing all practice problems. It's a lot of work but her course made the MCAT O. Chem. questions much easier. I highly recommend her.
On a real note: Prof. Saidane is the WORST college professor I have ever had or heard about. She is extremely unclear whether it is her assignment or tests. Her grading criteria is based on her mood which is always bad and it is super unclear. She doesn't follow the guidelines on how to properly grade FRQ tests. Plain & simple: avoid the garbage!
Saidane is a wonderful lecturer. She teaches great. Pretty much most of her exams are based on lecture, with some things from the book. Listen to what she has to say. I have had her several times, and overall chemistry is very difficult for me. While she lectures well, outside of class shes nonexistent. That's her huge downfall.
Brilliant woman. She puts a lot of time into her lectures and models for students to understand, and she expects you to put effort into studying. She gives you everything you need as a student to pass the course, you need to do your part. Shes not going to pass out As like candy. chem is HARD, but she gives you a great foundation to learn.
Lots of hw, do it all. Read the book & show up to her study seshes. Try your hardest, itll make upper division classes easier. If you think shes difficult, university professors dont try as hard as her. Ask questions even if shes grumpy, shell like you more at the end. Had her from genchem to ochem & appreciate her now that Im at SDSU.
Saidane is wonderful! She makes the topics of o-chem relevant. Her labs are difficult but she lays out what is required and makes you work hard and teaches you how to write a GOOD lab report. Her exams are based on lec and text problems she assigns, be sure to do the text examples! The text she uses is fantastic. Be ready to work HARD for the class
Today was the last day , I already miss her and her class. The most useful and fantastic chemistry course for ever. Ended up with an A+ .She deserves 1000 not only 5 star .
I had the pleasure of taking CHEM200 lecture & lab with Professor Saidane. If you really want to be successful in the chem series and are willing to study hard, her course is your best match. The exams are based on her practice tests, so if you complete all her practice tests you will be prepared for the exams. She cares about student success.
Professor Saidane is indeed not an easy-A teacher. Hence, keep in mind that you will have to work hard in her classes (lecture and lab). However, if you really care about learning Chemistry, and understanding the materials thoroughly, then she will be one of your best professors for Organic Chem (if not the best) in Mesa. I respect her.
She will yell and humiliate you. I have always been taught in lab not to rush things, cause then accidents can happen. Not in her lab, she will literally force you to go at her speed and anything less than that is wrong. Learned other techniques that other professors have taught you? Well now its all wrong.
I took dra. Saidane last year and now I'm a transfer student going to UCSD ,if you are a bio or chem major dra. saidane prepares you for what is expected for transfer students, so it seems hard but once you transfer it feels similar and the effort she teaches you to put pays off.
The best professor I have had. She is very passionate, caring, and puts more time into the class than I have ever seen a professor do. She holds review sessions outside of class and works every problem herself in the textbook , posting the notes to give students a better understanding of each concept. You must be willing to put in the work too
Online class and such an easy A if you pay attention. She posts practice tests that are EXACTLY like the real test. Her online lectures are very brief and not confusing with good visuals and examples.
Saidane's lectures are clear. Her homework reflects the tests. However, she is very unaccommodating as a professor. Trying to schedule meetings with her is very difficult. When asking questions, she will be very uncooperative. Instead of directly helping you, she will deflect you with another answer that isn't helpful.
Canvas exam cannot go to next question without completing it which makes the course worse. Pearson exam is 50 or 40 questions for 1 hour. Testing for the speech not understanding the concepts. Arrogant and does not care about students. Homework is optional, but if you do not turn in then she assumes you did not put work and mark grade off
The only grades that count are your exam grades, she does not help at ALL, you have to teach yourself. She expects that you're cheating even though you're not and you haven't even attempted the exam! her exams are way too long for an hour, because each question comes in parts A,B, C and even D sometimes, you also have a 30 q pearson exam in 1 hour!
This professor is the most arrogant and rude woman I have ever taken. Grade is based upon exams only that she does not prepare you for. Do not take as an online class because she does not care about her students at all and will fail you with no remorse. Take anyone but her.
Took her for 200 lab and lecture when she used to teach that level. She is very rude and needs to be cancelled. How is she still employed? Currently taking her for 231 because she is the only professor that was available, she still has not changed her attitude. Take someone else, the college needs to replace her, she makes students feel bad.
I respect her a lot. I definitely was inspired by how intelligent she is
Prof Saidane is excellent at explaining complicated organic chemistry concepts. Her lectures break down the material so that you will actually understand it. HOWEVER her assignments and tests are too long and difficult and really ruined the class for me. I felt I spent 90% of my week doing her homework assignments and her grading seems unfair.
Prof. Saidane is an amazing lecturer and is very helpful if you seek her help, but she doesn't handhold. If you aren't giving a solid effort, she will return the same. I took this class with calc and bio and I spent more time on this class than those two combined. The class is difficult but I would argue she teaches the concepts well.
She is very DISRESPECTFUL, she makes you feel dumb, and her homework load is awful! literally if you want to pass her class you will have to leave your other classes to only focus on hers. Don't take lab with her! she will scream at you if you're not prepared and points will be taken off. Both lab and lecture in her class is HARD! Beware please!
Very disrespectful the way she talks to students. The hardest class ever taken, the quizzes are impossible, you are given 60 minutes to answers 40+ tough questions and at some point, you need to just guess to continue. The tests are also nothing like the homework. Take anyone but her, it will ruin your GPA, I had a 4.0 before coming into this.
Dr. Saidane is a wonderful professor who cares and has such a passion for teaching Organic Chemistry and provides all the resources necessary to succeed. She is caring and is always available to help. I would highly recommend you take her especially if you are STEM major. She prepares you well for transferring to 4-year universities! 100% recommend
Professor Saidane is great at explaining concepts in detail and really helps you understand the material. Brilliant woman, would highly recommend. Test heavy but very doable if all the book problems and practice problems are completed. Very fair. Really enjoyed her class.
If you're trying to go to UCSD or any other school I would be careful with her! sadly her exams are hard. she doesn't offer extra credit, and she has no mercy with your grade. Be ready for a 98 question homework and 54 min exam. DO NOT! take lab and lecture on tues! you'll regret it. sadly with so much homework i passed with a C due to the workload
I took professor Saidane for 231 lecture and lab. As a teacher, she does an excellent job. She explains the materials very well and provides good resources. However, she can be rude and will humiliate you-especially in lab. We have been yelled at and have experienced disrespectful comments from her. Expect to spend 90% of your week and be strong.
Dr Saidane made me want to spend more time and effort on a class than I ever have before. If you follow the syllabus, you will do well. If you dont, you will feel like youre drowning for 16 weeks.
Are you a person that's a straight A student? well this class is not for you ;( because she is a tough grader! she screams at you if you don't understand it the first time. if you're read to read the book to understand and are willing to only focus on this class go for it but beware! this class is a load and don't take lab with her she very mean ;(
Professor Saidane is the most responsible professor I have ever met. Fifth semester at mesa. The responsibility is displayed that she is very skilled at pushing students to study and master one of the most challenging courses at college. She made hours of videos, lab diagrams and flow chart, clear and efficient, minimum errors happen during lab.
Professor Saidane is the type of professor that explains exactly what you need to do in a manner that is more relatable to understand. I really enjoyed taking this course because she is willing to give you the grade that you work for. This is not an easy course, but as long as you put the extra work & dedication you will excel. Love this professor.
This class is set up to make only 3 or 4 people get A. Her quizzes are 90 questions, and you only have 60 minutes. She does not release any answer key for her homework, so it will be hard to know what you got wrong. The videos she uploads contradict the textbook, and she does not like it when you point it out in the class.
Professor Saidane is the best professor I've taken in community college. She first explains concepts, then gives detailed examples from the book. If you are still unsure about the material, she provides videos and examples on her Canvas page. She pushed me as a student to do my best and made me feel like I can better in the class and in the world.
Doesn't like being asked questions in lecture. 60min or less for quizzes with only a min to solve each. Risk failing by not completing the quiz anyways. If your exam answer doesn't include her key points/way of problem solving she deducts points do not learn everything from txtbook. Heavy weekly hw load. Grade reflects exam and quiz scores.
I have put in a ton of work into this class but I will most likely end up with a B. I get A's on the tests but C/B on the quizzes and it has dropped my score. If it wasn't for those Pearson computer based quizzes I'd give her a 5 because she is a good teacher.
Have you ever tried as hard as you can but no matter how much work you do you can never please the person? To keep your sanity in this class you simply have to focus on just doing the best you can and be prepared for a B. Can she teach? Oh yes she's great at the teaching. But it takes more than that to be a great teacher. What's missing? BALANCE!
Very knowledgeable + experienced but very challenging. Gives hard quizzes each chapter, not like anything we see in class + have only ~1min per Q and must submit each Q as you go. Lots of HW, not much feedback on right/wrong. Hard grader on exams, takes off lots of points. Expects a lot from students. Will help if asked but hard-ish to approach.
Professor Saidane's class isn't easy because she wants you to learn. It is mandatory to buy or rent the Pearson textbook and code since she gives HW and quizzes there, I paid $100 to rent. Pearson was useful and prepared me for CHEM 200. Professor provides a lot of study guide material and prepares you well. Put in the work and you'll do great!
what you need to know: - hw questions are on the test - don't study notes study hw - make sure yk how to do calculation questions and when to use them - ask questions about the hw if you have any - lectures are only useful for calculation questions and irl examples *the main thing is study, I didn't study at first but once I did I got good scores
Professor Saidane is one of best professors I've ever had. To succeed in her class, you must be willing to put in the time, a lot of time. She provides you with all the tools possible to do well ( HW, practice exam, Pearson, great lectures), and if you take advantage of them, I'm sure you'll do great.
Very smart but class is brutal. Says she "generously curves" but takes away so many points for small things that of course she has to curve to not fail all students. Gets defensive when asked questions and doesn't help students at all survive the class. The final is ALL OChem 1+2 AND synthesis, which we never covered and had to learn all on our own
she makes you put in the work. everything everyone is saying about her is true, it's a really difficult class, the quizzes are difficult and timed, the exams are out of 200 points. she yells a lot and gets frustrated when you ask questions. if you cry when yelled at don't take her :))
As a person, she is very knowledgeable about the subject and you can see her passion for it. As a professor, she is very harsh with grading, and you barely get enough time on exams and quizzes, about 1min/?. The homework takes hours to finish just to be 7% of ur grade. She does provide extra review sessions which are the only saving grace.
Summer class: Great teacher - god forbid you have a questions for clarification. Raises her voice and gets annoyed you dont understand. Exams curved but ppl got 100's so.. class not curved, 1 EC (doesnt really help). HW assignments are WAY too long youll lose sleep. 4 exams 100pts (1drop), 10Hw's - no drops (grades harshly). Take someone else
she is rude and will humiliate you-especially in the lab. We have been yelled at and have experienced disrespectful comments from her.
Saloua is a knowledgeable professor, but her class is quite challenging. Expect timed quizzes, lengthy homework, and strict grading. The curve helps, but staying on top of the work is key. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for practice problems.
Prof Saidane gives amazing lectures and teaches you how to do the basic chemistry stuff with easy steps to follow, and then explains the science behind it. She gives real life examples that make the class engaging. Pay attention during the lectures or you WILL fall behind. She curves her tests, but they are very long. Weekly homework takes 1hr.
While she is retiring from teaching soon, I don't recommend her as a teacher for lab as she tends to automatically assume students are doing things wrong, talk badly about the other organic chem professors, and bully students.
Lots of homework, but most of grade is exams. Exams were very time intensive with many not finishing in the allotted time and while some people have mentioned curving on exams, it was only ever given once in my class. She tends to disagree with sources, even the ones she chooses and finds it wild students don't understand to her level of 20+ years
Saidane's class was straightforward & lectures were easy to follow. She provided lots of visual examples of concepts. Quiz & test heavy, but going to lecture and doing the homework she wrote prepared u for the quiz/test. Homework wasn't overboard & I didn't use the textbook at all in her class. She wasn't super friendly, but gave good feedback.
Ochem is already hard, she makes it tougher sometimes. Difficult to ask questions to, and very quick to call you out for not understanding. Lots of homework but mostly grades on exams. Regardless, she is very passionate. She knows how to teach and attendance is super important. Not going will make you fail the exam since it's all lecture based.
