hard tests, really nice only midterm and final
He is a great teacher! very funny, and informed!
Totally nice guy; difficult material w/excessive notes, but he grades fairly
very hard tests; curves; wierd, but interesting material; shows videos
Nice Gujy, Kinda Nerdy in a Cool way, lots and lots of notes
Entertaining. Exams are not too overwhelming.
Great professor, very helpful, and very nice man. Take his class!
awesome guy, not bad class, tests are hard but he curves
Very clear.Helpful. Tests are not too hard and he curves. Funny Guy!
Pretty easy class. Test are soooo hard but he has a huge curve. Funny, clear with what he wants. Reminds me of Where's Waldo with his coffee mug and glasses. Overall hes a good teacher and its worth taking.
Awesome guy! Very helpful, clear, and interesting.
Great Guy, very understanding, funny, hard tests, boring books, but fun class
very nice guy, notes help alot, tests arent too bad, one essay that isnt too bad, overall pretty good class
He Is the greatest!! Awesome class, Awesome Teacher! Take notes and Study and youll do great! I definatly Recommend!
Tests are impossible, but classes are entertaining.
tall funny nerdy guy. good class. explains stuff well and isnt' too hard
good professor, teaches you things, forward thinking...the dad from calvin and hobbs.
he is soooo cute. the weird psychological concepts he brings up are kinda cool. barely any work. good teacher.
Nice guy. The class is easy to understand and hardly any work. Take this class!
Nice guy, really cute in a nerdy way. Not very much work, tests somewhat difficult.
He doesn't teach off a book, so you either need a buddy in his class or simply don't miss a day. Tests are very hard and when you want help, he doesn't seem to know what to do but get a tutor.
Really nice guy...such a nerd but in a cute way. make sure you actually read the books he assigns because they will help a lot.
nice guy. you don't really have to read the books, as long as you know the general plot, you're fine. You watch a lot of movies.
he's so adorable. go to class, it's definitely enjoyable. read the books and you'll do fine.
Take him. He got me interested in a subject for which I had no interest. His lectures are pretty interesting, he has a sense of humor and his tests are fair.
GREAT PROFESSOR,, FUNNY BUT STILL A NERD. TAKE HIM YOU CANT GO WRONG.
He is the biggest nerd, and I didn't like his class at all. They are so boring and it feels like high school when we have to do stupid busy work assignments. You have to go to class to understand everything. Tests are somewhat hard. He's an okay teacher, but VERY NERDY!!
he's a nice guy, but it's just a boring class and hard to pay attention. the assigned books are pretty boring, too. but if u have to take the class, he's nice and willing to help u.
Dr. Collins is a very intelligent man. He is very passionate about anthropology. As long as you take notes and do the reading you will be fine. He comes off as intimidating and hard but in the end is very fair. Take him if you can. He has the cutest laugh! :)
nice guy, good teacher. 2 inclass assignments that are book reports or fun things. 2 major papers and field research required. final exam, no midterm. show up, take notes, you'll understand. books arent terribly boring. he's a great guy, very willing to help if you need it. take this class with him.
The coolest nerd I've ever seen. Seriously, this guy is a very good teacher and imparts alot of information. I wish he'd stop writing on the board and use some tech. in the class. Very aproachable and tells you upfront what is expected. We need more like him.
sucky class, sucking teacher. he teaches like your suppose to know what he's talking about, but if your not an anthro major you don't get it. stupid research paper that you can fake throught about your reseaarch and final test he puts stuff on it that we don't even cover. bad teacher for this class.
great teacher. class is medium difficulty. 2 in-class assignments. 2 papers, 1 theory, 1 on your research project, you pick the topic. i got by with an A- without doing much of the reading. easy going guy. if you need help ask.
sooooooo boring. 4 assignments that u must get chosen for so u never get to do what u want... 2 exams are hard. 1 research proposal. no attendance policy. nice guy though. wouldn't recommend the class unless ur an anth major cuz u wont know what he's talking about.
such a nice guy. material can be a bit tough, but it all works out. alot of grade comes from in class work-theres a final., a mid-term, and a proposal. dr.collins is the cutest and makes the best dry jokes. its a fun "off the cuff type" class
In the beginning, this class seemed impossible but Mr. Collins really helps out! Hard tests but he grades on a curve. Read the books and participate in class discussions. He is the cutest and sweetest man and has a lot of passion for what he does. I never thought I'd say that I actually reccomend this class!
Awesome guy.. even stupid ppl in the class did decent... i studied a good bit and still only did a little better than others in the class.. easy! funny guy
This class was a lot of fun and interesting. He was willing to help you but some of the material was confusing to actually understand. Don't be afraid to ask questions and definitely read the material or you will get lost very quickly. He was very obsessed about Korea and India and will talk about it for a long time. He's your stereotypical nerd.
he was a nice guy, but WOW. class was beyond boring. His lectures & study guides were disorganized. But would write notes on chalkboard for you to copy. Corny jokes were always made, and I spent most of the period counting down the minutes til class was dismissed!
this class was easy..prof. collins is a very nice guy but the class was a little boring. you watch three movies and do a couple of homeworks that he collects..if you want to take anth 207 definitely take him. although class is boring he's easy to understand and tries to explain things to you..he does tell corny jokes but they're so corny they funny
Very nice man. A professor who has a genuine interest in the opinions of his students, and willing to be flexible and helpful. That being said, I found his lectures to be really scattered about and kind of confusing. Wish he had used powerpoints or something instead of just writing on the board. But overall a good experience!
Love love love him. He's dorky and cute. And that laugh! my gosh, it was hilarious. I recommend him.
This class was awful.. there are four two page papers that make zero sense, midterm that was impossible, and a final that is all short answer/essay.. Professor Collins was boring, and made no sense, notes were all over the place.. i would not recommend taking him
Great Teacher and a wonderful person who takes time in trying to make you understand, just ask, some papers and a ending project but nothing that you couldn't do
To all of you who think he's boring and gives out way to much work. YOU'RE STUPID and should not be in college! Grow up! Hes really hard but helpful and hes super intelligent and passionate about his work! He's an amazing professor. I highly recommend him to people that aren't trying to be mass comp majors!!!
Great class. A lot of people had no idea what the class was about; if you put in a little effort it is one of the most interesting anth classes. Dr. Collins is such a nice guy he really tires to help a lot. He has a great since of humor and tries to make the class fun.
I have taken Professor Collins for several courses and he is wonderful. Incredibly passionate and intelligent. It can be easy to lose the thread of what he is talking about because the guy is a genius and can connect everything and talk about anything with complexity. Be willing to be challenged and just talk to him if you ever have an issue!
Really nice guy. Simple 10ish page final paper (he's not picky about length) that is just summarizing 6 projects done throughout the semester. The projects were really easy as well. Takes all of an hour to complete. The final was based off of 3 ethnographies we were supposed to read. SUPER easy even if you didn't read all of them.
A few small assignments that make no sense. He posts the same slides almost every class and they made no sense. I could not even understand what he was talking about half of the time. The review for the midterm and final were so disorganized that he should'nt have even given them
I really disliked this class. The material was really confusing and the class was only out of 200 points so if you lost like 5 points you were already screwed. The slides he used and posted on BB were of NO help and he didn't explain things in class very well. Overall, I wouldn't recommend him if you're looking for a good grade.
He's a nice guy, but definitely not the best at explaining himself. Will often move on with material even though half the class is still confused. Curves test and minimal assignments, but I never looked forward to going. Withdrew because the class wasn't worth the worry. Take someone else if possible.
Really nice, albeit awkward, guy. His lectures can get boring at times but he did a good job explaining concepts. He's definitely a nerdy academic guy and he cares about what he teaches, and will go over things again until you understand. Even if class wasn't exciting, I enjoyed learning about this and now I'm a SOCI/ANTH major!
Knowledgable teacher but lecture heavy. Talks a lot about topics that don't have anything to do with the class itself. Low-key funny. Gives extra credit opportunities. Not too much homework. Not a hard class at all.
This class is pretty boring, there is no way around it (unless you're interested in the topic). Dr. Collins is a decent prof, he's nice and cares about his students. However, he often goes off topic during lectures which is hard to follow. The homework assignments aren't hard and he offers extra credit.
His lectures are often unclear & very all over the place. I find myself understanding google definitions much better than his. He is a very nice guy who will help whenever you need it & the class is super easy with little work, but lectures are awkward because he will often ask us extremely unclear questions that no one knows how to answer.
lectures are him just standing and talking to you, no powerpoints. you receive vocab lists and he says the definition so you have to listen, but worst come to worst just google it. one midterm, one final and maybe 10 homeworks so not bad but if you fail one test your done. easy grader and not that hard.
Lots of reading, tests are so easy if you pay attention and study. He is a super nice guy but the lectures can be off topic and hard to follow. Not many homework assignments, the ones we did have were easy and he offered lots of extra credit.
Dr. Collins is a really intelligent and sweet man, but his teaching style is a little hard to follow. I liked his class but I was having a hard time understanding exactly what I was learning...
His wording can be confusing in class and what he expects is ambiguous for the mini assignments however if you go to him during office hours with questions he will explain and answer. For the midterm and final make sure you apply the readings and videos to the examples. I would take him again
SO confusing. Really nice guy and always willing to help but the class was beyond confusing. If you aska lot of questions maybe it would be easier for you. Take it of you have to but not for fun.
The class itself was very confusing and he is hard when it comes to grading.
Collins is lecture heavy but wants your input. Some of the material can be more than a little confusing. He does not seem to grade that tough. I had no idea what the midterm was about and still ended up with a B on it. Show up and half way pay attention and you should be fine.
Professor Collins lectures are so monotone and he doesn't seem to make a clear point. He does't use a powerpoint during his lectures so it is really hard to follow. He is a really slow grader, we are in week 11 and he has still not graded assignments from the beginning of the semester. Horrible class, do not take him unless they're no more options.
He's a really nice dude. Would definitely take his class again!
He's a great guy! You just have to make sure you listen to his lectures and takes notes on examples and definitions. He makes it very interesting and he is enthusiastic about his class. Makes it fun to participate and listen.
He is an amazing teacher I'm not sure why he doesn't have a 5. I enjoyed his class it wasn't hard he is extremely reasonable.
He is my all time favorite professor. He's extremely caring and willing to explain class material until you understand. It's a very interactive class and so much fun. He's also hilarious. Office hours are very flexible. He's very approachable and will not make you feel dumb. Highly recommend.
He was not very helpful when I asked for help. He did offer extra credit, but if you could not make it to the events, oh well no extra credit for you. He's boring and the study terms he gives you is nothing like the test. Study your notes and what we talked about in class a lot.
Nice man, and he's always willing to elaborate. But I found the topics boring and dozed off a lot. Which was a mistake. Be sure to take notes of what he is actually saying, not his powerpoints. Write an example for each term/concept he discusses because he asks for an example for everything on his midterm and final.
Attendance isn't mandatory but is in order to do well on the assignments, especially the midterm and final. A lot of the grade is based off of the things and examples that are discussed in class, not just vocabulary and definitions. He sometimes is confusing when teaching but overall really nice and also offers a lot of extra credit opportunities!
Prof. Collins is such a great guy but I found his lectures a bit boring; I rarely paid attention and only took notes on his powerpoints which worked against me when it came t the midterm and the final. Take notes on what he says, rather than the slides and make sure to note examples. He also has 2 ethnographic assignments to help your grade.
Great teacher, lectures are boring however don't forget to write everything he says including examples because that's what on the midterm and final. Midterm was very easy, notes aren't too heavy. Its just a manner of staying awake during the lectures. The professor tries to throw in a few jokes and his class is perfect.
Professor Collins is my all time favorite professor. He is such a genuine person who loves to smile and have fun. His lectures are very boing but he does his best to make them entertaining. He really cares about his students and wants you to succeed.
Class overall is great, 5 home works, two assignments, a midterm and a final. Easy A if you write down all the examples from lecture because that is what is on exams. He wants you to read two books but ou don't really have to as they are discussed in class. Gives extra credit which are worth 5pts each that you can put towards your grade.
One word: Lectures. There is only a midterm and final exam, and a few homework assignments worth very few points. Very boring class. Some topics are interesting, but it is very easy to daydream. Stay focused and while attendance isnt mandatory, it is very easy to get behind and not know what is going on if you miss even one lecture.
Had 5 books to read and weekly Journal entries to write about the material, in addition to 2 comparative book reviews and a final paper. A lot of reading and writing but he did not give us our papers back in a timely fashion so if he had critiques there was no way to fix them on later submissions. Nice man but purpose of course wasn't clear.
I took his class during the coronavirus and he did an amazing job! he was personable and caring. he allowed me to resubmit and assignment i didnt do well on and overall an easy, laid back person. i learned a lot in his class and he made sure to ask us questions/listen to our stories
Collins is a great professor, his lectures are actually entertaining compared to other teachers and you can tell he cares about his students. Each week there are lectures, video and reading pertaining to graded discussions that have to be turned in before class. Lots of work, but the tests are fairly easy. (I got a 91 on the midterm)
Loaded the course work and graded super picky. Not willing to work with students through the pandemic when many came to him with difficulties in the class. Would not recommend at all.
If you think this will be a easy class your DEAD WRONG! It's boring as I don't know what, he grades harshly on simple assignments like giving two comments on a lecture. The books you have to read are incredibly boring, the movies are incredibly boring and don't get me started on the lectures. Please listen to this because you will regret it forever
I personally loved Prof. Collins. There are textbooks (the water book is honestly good) But they're mostly unnecessary barring a few test questions, and they're available online as of 2024. He's goofy and encourages class participation, and it's received well in my class. The midterm and final are both take-home, online tests. I find him endearing.
My favorite prof at Towson. Cannot recommend him enough if you're an active, eager student. He is knowledgeable and helpful about almost anything you can come up with. Truly a class act.
He never checked who came to class but his slides are not detailed so if you miss class you wont find the info later online when you go to review. Textbook and required reading book were both free online. SUPER EASY weekly in-class quiz, 5 simple assignments, and a final which he told us exactly what would be on it. Just show up and you'll be fine.
