This was a very fun class. He teaches the people's history, stuff you don't learn about in high school. It opened my eyes up to a lot and for that I am grateful.
Mr. Pacheco is one of the few quality teachers at hartnell. He explained very clearly what we needed to do to succeed in his class. He is very patient with all his students and keeps his lectures interesting. All students in our class were pleased with the class.
Very intersting class. Challenging, but fun. Read! read the books. Discussions on the books, but they're not boring if thats what your thinking. Like someone said before, its the peoples history. Things that normal,by the book proffesors dont tell youi about.
Awesome teacher! Even if you don't agree with him, he'll listen to you!

Great teacher. Knew the subject he taught very well.
Took his class for History, great class! Teaches more than what is 'basically' known, and you finally get to find out the truth about all the dead people! On top of that his Ethnic Studies class was brilliant! :)
He wants you to be aware of whats going on in the world. He does not force his biases on you and always respects what you have to say. He never tells anybody they are wrong for their opinions, which is great. His tests were pretty demanding, meaning STUDY! Make sure to keep up with the reading and you will do fine with the essays.
He did teach the subject well BUT is attitude makes me cringe. He is obviously of mexican decent, but tries to act like the whitest man out there. oh and he fosters an environment for racial divide. He makes the different races in his class feel against eachother! "sam" needs to get in touch w/ his roots, and stop trying 2 act white!
Sam is very down to Earth. I really enjoyed his classes as he makes you a more open minded person. His test are not difficult as long as you go to class and take notes. His essays are easy as long as you do the reading. His choice for books are interesting and he offers extra credit at his discretion. Very cool guy
There is good and bad about this guy. Overall I like the class, hands down. He keeps it entertaining no doubt. But, I have one problem with Sam. He will TELL you what you know(in question form) and then 're-educate' you on the actual facts. His assumptions of students, it seems, as a whole are that we believe anything and everything. I don't find i
Mr. Pacheco is hella cool..I really liked his class because he teaches the truth about our history....
Keep on taking all his subjects! He's really cool and funny!
His lecture are boring and pointless. He reads lines from texts which he interprets meagerly. I didn't learn anything from his class and personally couldn't continue with a teacher that wasn't engaging. I took a class at MPC and dropped it just a few classes in because it was that bad. I don't recommend him for a history class.
I didn't history with Mr. Pacheco but I did take Ethnic Studies with him. He is a super awesome instructor and is very open about everything he talks about but it professional at the same time. in my opinion if you like professors who are open then he's the one.
Great teacher who explains everything clearly and doesn't give you pointless busywork. I don't know what that one guy is talking about. I learned a lot that was very interesting and i don't even like history. I took US History 17A.
I took both Ethnic studies and History. He is great and straight forward. Very approachable and knowledgeable. One piece of advice--take notes and READ!
I love him!!! Has GREAT HAIR. Pacheco is the best teacher ive ever had in my life. I learnd so much from his class and, he is also funny and makes the class really fun. he goes off topic a lot but, thats what makes the class fun.
His teaching style is very interactive and it feels as if he uses freire's pedagogy more so than most teachers.
He wants students to get involved in discussions. History is usually pretty boring but he teaches in a way that makes it interesting.
Great Teacher! I never liked History but he made the class really interesting - makes you think. Lots of class participation. Some reading but not much homework. Definately recommend!
No tests, just papers. He doesn't care about grammar or anything like that- just the content of your paper. He gives you tons to work with in his unconventional lectures!
it's all lecture then read at home, all will be used in papers. he's very understanding but the class is only once a week so if you miss it you won't know when papers are due or what to read, it's so much easier than other history courses, he wants you to get the bigger idea, not the bs that is usually taught. HIS class should be REQUIRED
Pacheco's approach at teaching is unconventional, but truly beneficial. His class will entice anyone, regardless of whether or not history is your thing. The class is 90% lecture, so be prepared to share ideas with the class.
Great teacher. Really makes history interesting. If you try in the course and do the work, he'll reward you in the end with the grade you deserve.
Mainly lecture. Participation is necessary, or class will be boring. I liked that he taught a different version of history from what most textbooks consist of, but he has a huge ego, and injects his political views into the conversation whenever he can. Show that you can critically think in the essays and you'll be fine.
Super clear in his lectures, lets students express their ideasthoughts on the topics (really encourages participation). I don't think I've ever enjoyed a class as throughly as his. Seriously would consider taking his other classes. Really laid back and personable. As long as you think critically in your papers you'll do fine. Highly recommend :)
I really injoyed this class. Really good for older students like me.
amazing teacher, gives you a WHOLE new perspective of our history.
Great teacher!!!!! Teaches History in an interesting way. Finds ways to relate past events to current situations to get your attention and keep you focused.
Mr. Pacheco's class is super fun. I took him over the summer and all we had to turn in were three papers including the final. If you follow his instructions, pay attention during his lectures, and do your reading it should be no problem getting an A. He makes his lectures super interesting and the more you participate the more he likes you.
Best so far! Easy A! He explains everything much easier!!!! Totally recommend him!
Mr. Pacheco is a good instructor, he is really open and he isn't afraid of showing who he is, he can be your instructor and friend, his lectures are interesting but sometimes he gets out of the topic.
I loved his class!!!! He makes everything so easy to understand, he puts tings into different perspectives, and he was okay with my crazy schedule, which was a huge plus. This class was really enjoyable.
Interesting fun Lectures... Teaches giving different Perspectives. Gives paper assignments, but gives you the notes too. Need reading for critical thinking on the papers.
Easy going, great personality, very informative and open minded. Great guy!!
I would recommend his class to anyone. 3 papers all semester. He has a different way of teaching, which I like. I was not looking forward to history class, he makes the topics so you can relate. one of the few classes I looked forward to attending. Attendance is very important take a lot of notes it will make writing your papers easier.
Cool professor easy A in class and your job is to read the three books do good on just 3-4 essay and you will pass the class. He gives you extra credit in Thanksgiving to go to San Francisco at the Alcatraz island.
One of the best teachers out there. Very understanding.
Pacheco is such an easy going, unbiased prof. Very funny during lectures, uses movies + video clips to add to points. Participation/opinions are welcomed. Textbooks are actually novels involving history of race and ethnicity. Gives outline of notes online. Reading + notes are used for essays. No exams. Not an "easy a" but if you read, it will be.
Hands down favorite teacher at hartnell. NO tets or quizes only 3 essays throught the semetere. Took it during the summer, i would totally recommend it. His lectures are interesting and he makes class fun
This is one awesome professor. His class is really easy and it's not a bad thing, becuz he teaches u so much and leaves nothing behind! He is a very caring and open professor! You can tell he is very passionate about what he does and he is very interesting! He lectures the whole class but trust me, u will never be bored! Go out of ur way 2 take him
Professor Pacheco is truly inspirational! He teaches real history and he opened my eyes to many things I did not know about it. The class only consists of three essays and they are not difficult. Go out of your to take him, you will not regret it!
This teacher was not what I expected, very interesting, has unique type of teaching. The whole point of his class is critical thinking . Read the books and attend class . He does lectures, not good for visual learners. He grades pretty relaxed. Total of 3 essays which includes the final. Topics are broad so it may be hard to know what to write.
Amazing professor. Teaches you the other side of history that high school never touches. Very informative and fun lectures, you will never be bored in class. Very funny as well! He looks for class participation, he doesn't like a quiet class. No exams, only 3 essays the whole semester as well as some extra credit given. Easily my favorite professor
You do a lot of reading, but as long as you do the essay's by the book and you attend class you will pass easily. He's really funny and his lecturers are always entertaining even though he gets off topic at times I would recommend him.
I never thought I would love History. Professor Pacheco is hilarious and you'll never be bored during his lectures! Just make sure you read and do a lot of critical thinking in your essays. I would totally take him again!
Pacheco is a good instructor. He's a little heavy on contemporary politics for my taste, though I agree with him politically. We had a conservative in our class, but Pacheco wasn't afraid to allow dissenting views. I learned quite a bit about California history in this course. I found out that the books he uses are also used at SJSU Take home final
Great instructor. Hes very helpful to students with very few assignments and offer so much extra credit.
Professor Pacheco is an amazing teacher. I loved his class so much. He is honest and says it like it is. Easy class and very interesting. It made me like taking a history class at 8am. He allows students to give their opinion and contradict him and that makes the class more interesting. One of the best teachers at Hartnell.
He's funny, always makes the class laugh and is really down to earth!
I enjoyed Professor Pachecos class; it was nice and easy. He teaches the material in an interesting and engaging manner. Hes funny and genuinely cares about his students. However, some people take advantage of his niceness and stop showing up, knowing that hell give notes online for tests. DONT RUIN IT FOR EVERYONE! Show up & try! Hes cool! :)
Mr. Pacheco never fails to amaze me by his knowledge. This was my second class with him and it was great! His main goal for each of his classes is that you go and change the world in any way that you can with the information you learn from him. Attendance may not be mandatory, but to those who choose not to attend each class---they are missing out!
Mr. Pacheco is super nice & cool, he always try to have his students engage in a topic and discuss things going on in the world, he doesn't take attendance but don't be the student that skips class the entire the semester and only shows up once, his class consists of 3 five page papers for the whole semester, no reason not to get an A.
He is really easy super great class and he talks about the real side of US history
He's a really nice and funny person, his lectures are interesting and he likes his students to participate and share their thoughts. He is not a strict professor and he doesn't care if you do not show up but you will be missing out if you don't. The final grade is based ONLY on 4 major essays but he gives enough time to do them.
you don't have to read! there's no homework besides two essays! he's cool and really funny. gets off topic sometimes but there's a point. its an easy class but he truly knows what he is talking about. definitely learned a lot from him!! its more about the history of colored people-definitely something you don't alway get. I really recommend...
Love his class. Makes history fun.
A great History instructor. Class is not boring the assignments given are easy and he gives a lot of help. Cares for his students . He even gives extra credit opportunity
Awesome professor! History was one of my least favorite classes until I took his class. I actually enjoyed learning about history and going to his lectures. Easy A as long as you do your readings and essays. Super caring and lenient !
highly recommend taking any course with him
One of the best professors Ive had at Hartnell. Is a very knowledgeable person and always accepts different view points. Essays are straightforward and honestly fun to write !
I loved Professor Pachecos class. He is an amazing instructor that is willing to answer any questions.
Pacheco was an amazing professor. I took his 17A class and it was super easy. He gives you a website to find the textbook instead of paying a couple hundred bucks for it. There are 3, 5-page essays throughout the semester and as long as you turn it in you'll most likely get an A on it. He honestly makes it fun to learn about boring history
He is very straught-foward with the things he says, but you will learn a lot. He likes to share and then have a discussion about the things he tells you. The class is pretty easy you go to class and listen to him/ discuss, you read three books and based on those and the things learned in class you write 3 essays.
I took him for 17A, 17B, and currently HIST6. he mainly focuses on lecturing because he really wants to engage his students in what he's talking about. All these courses require to use usually 3-4 books for each essay, usually 3 essays and a final essay. he cares more about what you have to say instead of how you say it.
Mr. Pacheco is uniquely talented when it comes to lectures and has the ability to get students into the discussions. I have taken 5 history classes with him and have enjoyed them all. There is some reading but most of the class is taught through class discussions. Prompts are normally 3-4 pages. Great instructor.
Quite a bit of reading and I hear their are easier history professors, but if you want to learn about history then take this class. I would recommend not skipping anything as that almost made me get a C, but if you stay on top of things then you should be fine and pass easily with an A as his grading is not that harsh.
Amazing teacher class is really easy. The only thing is you have to read some books throughout the curse of the class.
Professor Pacheco is a great teacher! He makes you think and question life. He is one of those teachers who keeps it real. I would recommend him to anyone willing to expand their thinking!
Prof. Pacheco is one of the best teachers I've had. His lectures are great and make you reconsider what you know in history. No tests, but you'll write papers. You can get a good grade on them if you can convey and discuss your message and provide evidence in a clear and structured manner. Take notes because you'll need them in your essays.
Easy class
Mr. Pacheco is a great professor who encourages students to think critically. Personally, his style of teaching was not for me as there was no strict structure to the course. Attendance was not required. However, it is an easy A.
Super funny guy I wish I could take him again I learned so much in his class he will get you to rethink what you thought you knew about history well informed person to say the least. the work was a little lengthy you do have 3 essays (3 pages) about readings you choose and one final essay. final essay is easy considering you did the past 3 essays.
Easiest class you will take. Super casual lectures. Funny guy that actually makes you interested to learn bc he talks about real history, the ugly and the brutal. Gives a lot of extra credit by watching shows/movies. Takes attendance but he never actually counts it so dw. Assignments are written reports, you can be casual with them
Great Professor, make you rethink all the history lessons you have in your life and he teaches untold history. relates history to modern events. He is hilarious, and his lectures will have you rethink a lot of your beliefs. Great class for people who are open minded. Class is super easy, only three papers the whole year.
was really different from an ordinary history class, I took this class for fun and I got to learn a lot about my own culture and myself too. interesting and engaging lectures, just be prepared to read.
I took Professor Pacheco and his lectures could get boring sometimes, he just talks the whole time and you just sit there. He's cool and chill but he never talks about the papers he assigns. He assigns like 4 papers and you have to read 3 boring books and honestly that's all the work you have to do. DON'T BE FOOLED, ATTENDANCE IS NOT MANDATORY!!
Best and easy profressor. Pacheco is super chill and funny. His lectures are very informative and inspiring. You have 3-4 research papers to write from books that you have to read/skim through. Those are the only assignments, so finish them as soon as possible. One of my favorite profressors of all time!
His lectures were very informative and detailed. Grades were based on book analyses and final paper. He gave plenty of opportunities for extra credit and wanted students to learn about US history from multiple viewpoints, such as his lectures and books. Overall, great class and professor; highly recommend.
best professor I've had!
To keep it brief, Sam's (this is how he prefers to be called) classes are very dependent on his lectures and readings as most of your information is found here, so it would be preferable to take notes. I would HIGHLY recommend that you as a student be engaged in the lecture as this could help you write your midterm essays and with the final.
Pacheco was the best and funniest profressor I've ever had for History 17A. He really cares about his students for them to be successful. All the assignments were definitely well explained and easy to fully understand.
Pacheco was a great professor who was passionate about what he taught. Great communication and cared for his students. Wanted his students to succeed and understand the material. In person lectures were him talking majority of the time (your responsibility to take notes) and a few papers to complete throughout the semester. Extra credit available.
He is cool, I like his vibe , I took him in the summer and he is super chill. His lectures are important. Just take notes and you'll be good . I think he is funny aswell and he makes things interesting .
Long lectures.... overall great professor...
The teacher is very easy-going. He makes the classes enjoyable and easy to understand. There are so many extra credit opportunities! It would be very hard not to pass his class.
